honestly thought i would have a lot more to say about adventure 02 but like
i just finished episode 50 and the jist of my thoughts really are "yeah this is better than i remembered it being"
overall, an extremely ambitious follow up to digimon adventure, balancing a lot of plot points and an attempt at having a more cohesive storyline than "bad guy of the arc but suddenly it's apocalymon." in 02, most of the bad guys lead from one to another, in a way that seems much more intentionally thought-out than everything up until the dark master's arc in 01. even the one-off antagonists (dark ocean and demon's crew) played into the larger narrative, and weren't necessarily treated as one-offs so much as chances to expand the scope of the lore and use it to the narrative's benefit.
(although i do think it's a bit sad we never saw follow up on demon going "oh, you all are going to regret sending me to dagomon's ocean SOOOOO much")
also a lot of lore. so much lore. 01 introduced the fact that homeostasis has a bunch of agents that look like gennai, but a2 kept suggesting they're all copies (put a pin in that for my tri rewatch, much as i am loathe to rewatch that one). there wasn't any elaboration, but it is an interesting idea, and unfortunately i understand why it was kind of hastily noted and dismissed (the world tour arc had a lot to get to).
also the dimensional makeup of the digimon franchise got a lot more fascinating in 02. in 01 gennai mentioned that the gate could lead to all kinds of different places, but 02 actually takes that a step further in the lore, showing us the dark ocean and the dimension of dreams (even mentioning that the latter is pulled from by the digital world).
but it does maintain some of the problems i had with the original adventure in that i do wish more of the kids got to see their mega forms. :/
(i know tamers fixes that somewhat, then frontiers backpedals, but. you can't get me to rewatch frontiers lmao.)
furthermore, it does kind of suck that we're still left to wonder about ken's adventures in the digital world. we see ryo and millenniumon in his flashbacks to the adventures, but for audience members who missed out entirely on the wonderswan games, it makes it so we have to trust wormmon's word that ken was a kind person in the past. it's shown to an effective degree in the show, especially with his flashbacks to his childhood after the chimeramon arc.
it also makes narrative sense that they didn't feel the need to go over a story that's already happened, because that likely would have taken too long for 02, which already had so much going on. but maaaaaan. i do not want to play the wonderswan games, frfr (though i know there are fan translations out there for 'em).
i do love ken's arc though, as frustrating as him struggling with self-doubt is to watch. i'm glad the writers didn't make it seem too easy for him to forgive himself, because that's hard even if you weren't the vessel for like. All That Shit. i'm giving this boy a weighted blanket and hot tea.
tl;dr: compared to the oftentimes fever-dream like qualities of 01, 02 feels a lot more narratively focused in its story, and i think that really works to its favor. not a flawless season, but none of the digimon seasons are. a successful sequel to 01, much more so than i remembered from my last rewatch of the dub in 2020.

Digimon Adventure 02: Tag Tamers - Final Thoughts
This game was great, but my experience was slightly negatively affected by the lack of information on it. The one walkthrough I was able to find really did me dirty lol.
Anyways, I stand by my previous statement that the Wonderswan games deserve more love. I think they're definitely the best of the Adventure/02 era.
Notes:
-Okay, time to vent a little. I used this walkthrough and whoever wrote it was just flat out wrong about a bunch of stuff. They made me believe I had to go WAY harder than I needed to with fusing digimon (a very slow and tedious process if you want a lot of jogress points). They then led me to believe I had to beat the 2nd to last dungeon 10 times to get 10 pieces of a digimental...that ended up being not true at all, so I beat that dungeon 10 times for no reason lol. In the walkthrough they went into the final battle with a bunch of OP digimon with like a zillion jogress points. I went in with a bunch of weenie hut jr. digimon and was fine. Most misleading walkthrough I've ever followed! If I hadn't followed its advice, I probably would have finished this game a week ago. Luckily, I did find some YouTube Let's Plays and some tumblr posts that set me straight.
-Once I figured out how things worked I realized this game is a little too easy. As soon as you get a stun ability, you're basically unstoppable, even withweaker digimon on your team. If you manage to stun all 3 digimon on the enemy team, you automatically win. You don't even need to touch their HP! That's crazy and I've never seen a game do that before...felt like I was cheating.
-I thought it was a little weird how many dungeons in this game used baby or in training level digimon. Like I would expect that from the first dungeon but they were still showing up like mid-way through! Again, not much of a challenge.
-The variety of digimon was good and I liked the inclusion of fusion, but I wish fusion was a little more straightforward/predictable. Without any guide I was just gambling every time. The worst of it is that you have to raise your digimon from baby-level every time you fuse, which really held me back from progressing the game.
-Techniques were really confusing compared to the first game. Whereas in game 1 my digimon would gain new abilities constantly, it seemed like the only way digimon would gain abilities would be to fuse them and start from scratch. I would use the digivice to befriend powerful, mega-level digimon, but their abilities would be so trash that doing that was completely pointless. (I think you need to fuse digimon like 100+ times to get a decent mega which would take ages).
-The ending "puzzle" was just batshit. You have to defeat Millenniumon as Ryo and Ken using the same number of turns. Of course, the game doesn't tell you that at all. It just gives you a door with a number on it and goes "~oooh, what could it meeeean?~" Well, I wouldn't have figured out in a zillion years what it meant if it wasn't for a random post on tumblr. Walkthrough dude didn't figure it out because he thought it was something else that unlocked the door and a let's player I watched just seem to unlock it out of dumb luck (he defeated Millenniumon in 2 turns with Ryo and then Ken). My number was 10 by the way...this was before I was aware of the stun ability's OP-ness
-The game dramatically ends with Ken becoming the Digimon Emperor. I guess if you didn't see the anime that would be kinda a "wtf" downer ending. Wormmon tries to keep it positive by saying "I know he'll be good again someday!" It's definitely sequel bait (although I'm not sure exactly where the next game fits).
-I never really learned what some of the stats meant in this game. Defense is "PP" but I have no idea what that stands for. There's also "Y?" Which I think has something to do with a digimon's age?? I don't know why old games had to be like ";) we'll never tell" instead of just explaining things.
-This was a very relaxing game to play YouTube videos or music over, perfect for weeknights. It was very light on story, so I didn't need to pay much attention.
-I wish they did more with armor evolution. I kept buying/equipping armor but it never seemed to do much. Veemon was the only one I could really get to armor evolve via one of his attacks. Definitely missing something there...
I give this game a 7.5 out of 10. The lost points are for all of the confusion I endured lol.

Digimon 02 survey results!!
The people have spoken!! A few days ago, I started a survey on Tumblr in order to figure out what people would want from a hypothetical sequel to 02 beyond the upcoming movie, and the results are pretty interesting. Let's go through them!
I will also link the previous Twitter results from a year ago, although Twitter has a limit of four options per poll, which slightly skews the results.
And thank you so much to @digimonpolls for the amazing support!
1. Which elements of Digimon 02 would you want to see return?
Tumblr media
The Dark Ocean was the clear winner in this poll, with 51% of the votes! The second place, with a respectable 30%, was for the Digimentals/Armor digivolution. Oddly enough, only a 6% voted for Dark Seeds to return.
Twitter winner: Dark Ocean, 50%; Armor, 30%
I voted: Dark Ocean
2. Which supporting characters would you like to see in a potential 02 sequel?
Tumblr media
With a 34%, Wallace and his twin Digimon, Gummymon and Chocomon were chosen for a return! Every other option on the poll had relatively similar percentages, from 8% to 16%. The "World Tour Chosen", "Ryo" and "new Chosen" were the three most popular options after Wallace, with 16%, 15% and 15% respectively, in a near triple draw. This poll also had the highest amount of votes, since it was shared with Shiha and Ni. (Thank you!)
Twitter winner: Near perfect 26% draw between Ryo, Wallace and other kids
I voted: Wallace
3. Which antagonist would you want to see in the plot of a potential sequel?
Tumblr media
Demon was the winner this time, with a decent 29% among nine options in total! Dagomon got the second place (21%), although it started out leading the poll, and was in a draw with Demon until the last day. Zeed/Moon/Millenniumon (16%) and Diaboromon (10%) were the next options. No one voted for "No antagonist". Villains! Who doesn't love em.
Twitter winner: Demon, 39,5%
I voted: haha guess what. psst it's Demon
4. In case we have new digivolutions for the 02 cast, which ones would you prefer?
Tumblr media
Solo evolution lines (no Jogress) was the leading option with a staggering 62%!! It seems like many of us want to see the 02 cast thrive individually as well as they do in pairs. Swapped Jogress and further evolutions for Jogress, both common options for speculation and custom art videos, were tied with 14% each. New Armors got no votes, although someone voted "Other". Leaving no comment. User rawrbox suggested the idea of combines Digimental, another popular option that I, sadly, forgot to include. My apologies.
Twitter winner: Solo evolution lines, 53,7%
I voted: Solo evolution lines
5. How would you like the story to be handled, in terms of genre or overall tone? In which aspects do you want more focus?
Tumblr media
Extremely interestingly, this might be the most revealing poll of the survey. It's a near-perfect TRIPLE DRAW between psychological exploration, lore and worldbuilding, and daily life, with 29%, 29% and 31% respectively. They were tied exactly in 30% for a while as well. Action adventure, often the presumed "main interest" of Digimon, got 11%. The "Other" option, as well as romance, also commonly cited as one of the main interests of 02 fans (shipping Takari, Daiken or Kenyako for example) got an astounding, astonishing... 0%. I am speechless.
Twitter winner: Action adventure, 46,3%; psychological exploration, 41,1% (no lore option)
I voted: Lore and worldbuilding. I guess that undoes the draw if you don't count my own vote :0
6. Which contexts or narrative environments should the hypothetical sequel address?
Tumblr media
Although only 02-specific things was the winning option with 25% of the votes, it should be noted that pretty much every other option got a certain amount of votes. "Only 02" started out as the clear winner from the beginning, with tri. as the second place, but eventually tri. was surpassed by Adventure and the Wonderswan games, with 21% and 18%. So, it should be safe to say that the answer is a bit of everything but keeping a strong focus on 02 itself, to some extent, although every person will have different opinions on which things should and should not go on the "palette".
Twitter winner: Only 02, 34,5% with close percentages of all other options
I voted: V-Tamer! Please read V-Tamer. It's great
7. Which format/medium would you prefer for this hypothetical 02 sequel?
Tumblr media
A decisive 67% prefers the classic anime season, with episodes. I included this question because I've seen many people who are tired of the Adventure or 02 related content, and I figured many would prefer to have one or two movies instead of a full season, but it seems I was wrong, at least in this audience. OVAs or movies got 25%. And once again, CD Drama got 0%.
Twitter winner: Anime season, 58,9%; OVAs or movies, 34,7%
I voted: Anime season
Despite being one year apart and held in two different social media and two different languages, it's very interesting that both surveys have received similar results. While it is true that a bunch of people probably participated in both (I was only able to vote this time, not on Twitter, although my votes don't change the results significantly), it seems like there is a certain amount of consistency between such different voting groups, which leads me to believe this study might have some validity in regards to what the Western side of the fandom (at least, the part of it that is active on social media) would want from a new 02 sequel after The Beginning.
Another thing of note is that the Twitter poll was conducted before we barely knew anything about 02 The Beginning, and the results are still more or less the same, with slight variations.
Thank you for your input, this was a lot of fun! 🦖

Sooooo like since ken made chimeramon in 02 does that mean he inadvertently made the millenniumon line? Because I feel like that might’ve happened

So Belial Vamdemon. Or as the fandom calls it Marshmalomyotismon.
"Belial" means worthless in Semitic languages, and the demon it refers to has multiple different characterisations. So literally, Belial Vamdemon is Worthless Vampire Demon Monster. Rather unintentionally appropriate.
His parasites, Sodom & Gomorrah, apparently reference the fact that Belial is thought to be the one who brought immorality to those cities, but this is only referenced in one of SMT blurbs, I can't find the original source of this idea.
Belial Vamdemon is one of the lesser Demon Lord Digimon. One of the others is Deathmon, from V-Tamer manga, which is later repurposed as the pseudo-canonical final form of Fantomon, Vamdemon's right-hand man in Odaiba arc in OG Adventure. It is likely that these lesser Demon Lords will get their own sigils in the future.
Neither Belial Vamdemon, nor Belial in SMT are accurate to the Ars Goetia depiction, they are based off the Jewish depictions of the demon.
Belial is described to be the second demon created after Lucifer in Ars Goetia, as such it tends to be a high ranking demon in SMT, albeit after many others. Belial in early SMT games would be showcased in opposition to Metatron (hence the official art of them fighting), though in later games Metatron was significantly ranked up.
Belial Vamdemon is interesting because of the fact that Vamdemon's natural line is mostly based off Undead Digimon, whereas Belial Vamdemon takes the Demon Digimon part of the line.
Belial's association with Sodom & Gomorrah is somewhat amusing considering the ambigious nature of Oikawa & Hiroki's relationship, feel free to read into that.
Belial Vamdemon's design features many insectoid features, which makes one wonder if the original intention was for it to absorb Mummymon & Archnemon to reconstruct itself. This will likely become a plot point in a 02 reboot.
Vamdemon being the final boss doesn't work very well, especially considering 02 already had two unresolved antagonists that are stronger than it (Dagomon, or at its hypothetical final form, and Demon). Thematically, it only works somewhat.
Vamdemon was the villain of Daisuke's, and Hikari's childhood, and indirectly connected to various elements of the rest of the cast. Vamdemon was the one that helped Ken developed Evil Rings through Tailmon's Holy Ring (again, not properly expanded upon), and was part of Piemon's Nightmare Soldiers like Devimon (though this is only something one can infer through V-Pets, or learn from the novelisation), and would later become Piemon's Jogress partner, thus giving the Takeru connection. He is not directly connected to Iori beyond Oikawa, and has no connection to Miyako, though.
Vamdemon also works somewhat due to being a literal manifestation of children's nightmares, due to being a Dark Digimon created out of children's views of vampires, but also due to events of both Adventure series. This reconstructed body is also ultimately powered by the fear of children, with the help of copied Millenniumon pieces that are the Dark Seeds. Even then, these justify Vamdemon being a major villain, not the final boss.
(It would have been probably more thematically appropriate if the cast defeated Vamdemon with other Digimental Evolutions, including the Golden Digimentals, and Kindness, but that opportunity wasn't used either.)
Neither of these two aspects are really developed in the series proper, though. Vamdemon being Daisuke's tormentor should have been played up probably, but Miyako isn't involved in the Diablomon movie really, so this isn't the lost opportunity of 02 with the returning antagonists.

what prompted you to have Ryo and Mille in the story? I mean I LOVE that fact and what you've done so far. was it an early decision? have how you planned to incoperated them changed a lot from the beginning to now?
Standard SPOILER warning for Fragments and 02 Remix!
Thank you so much~! We had plans to include Millenniumon and Ryo since the very beginning. When we first watched the 02 anime, we both found it utterly bizarre that the writers included an important friend in Ken’s past and a battle against a giant Digimon… but did nothing with either, despite the rich potential for storytelling there. Ryo’s appearance in Tamers only further complicated things, but we both decided we liked the character. Even when we found out about the games, it didn’t exactly fix things, and the story in the games and how it crossed into the anime was… disjointed, to put it mildly.
Our plans for Ryo never really changed. One could say that we started with his end and worked backwards. Then we worked beyond.
However, things changed quite a bit for Zeed - AKA Millenniumon. For a long time, we struggled to figure out how we would address him. Our ideas for him bounced back and forth and varied wildly, to the point that it’s hard to pin down what our original plans were, as we had a lot of them. One of the reasons why was because, in the games, he was the result of a jogress between Ken’s Chimeramon and the Dark Master Mugendramon. This didn’t exactly line up with the anime timeline, at all.
Naturally, this wouldn’t have worked for our story purposes.
This is especially true when you consider how jogress is treated differently in the anime than the games, with all games except the most recent treating it as a permanent fusion rather than a temporary form.
As an aside, we hated the idea of any version of the Adventure cast deciding it was fine to say goodbye to their partners by giving them to a kid they barely knew, who could then permanently merge them with other Digimon like fodder. Just, what the heck. It may have just been a game mechanic, but it still left an unpleasant taste in our mouths.
So this left the question of how to explain Millenniumon and all his forms.
And that’s when it hit us. Suppose those forms… were not his true form?
Given his powers that we fleshed out in the Dreaming To Reality universe (which we can’t give too much insight for now, as more will be revealed later), it would actually make perfect sense that they were nothing more than puppets - hand-created from data. It gives new meaning to the term ‘meat shield’!

I forgot how to draw my son, and don’t ask why one of Mille’s heads is bigger than the other. Oh well. Really quick and sloppy 3x5″ post-it note doodle.
I don’t think he’d be very pleased with his videogame background being repurposed for tri.

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 66: The Last Miracle, The Last Power (Review)
Thoughts on the sixty-sixth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.
We’re finally at the penultimate episode! YAY! \o/
That close-up of Negamon’s eye opening looked like the Demogorgon’s face opening from Stranger Things, lol. (Watch that show! Nancy and Steve are uwu) Negamon/his eye is still so comical to me. :P
And . . . we’re ripping off Our War Game again (+ Apocalymon later)! Great. :P Nah, I don’t mind at all TBH, lol.
Mimi: “Papa, Mama, Grandpa . . .” Nice of Mimi to remind us that they actually have family they care about (and who, in turn, should care about them), lol. This is actually a huge gaping hole that the series has chosen to sweep aside for 99% of the time, at its own detriment . . . Where is a shot of Yuuko Yagami being a mess at her missing kids suddenly fighting in a battle for Earth? I miss when things actually felt like they mattered (more) and there were high stakes. OG Adventure is crying. ;_;
Sora: “We’ll take the tentacles!” Yamato: “We’ll . . .” Taichi: “Keep charging ahead!” In case you forgot who are the actual stars in this series - and who are just guest starring. Toei’s got you! uwu
Mimi being audibly cold when Vikemon did his Arctic Blizzard attack was nice, lol. These neat little Mimi side moments are definitely part of the highlights of this reboot. I wish all the characters had these. <3
It was nice to see all the Megas do their bit, even if it really was just the absolute bare minimum. In a perfect world, Toei would figure out how to give screentime (fairly) equally to the main cast . . . but alas. This is all we get. I still appreciated it, though.
Negamon’s evolution, Abbadomon, is . . . very underwhelming. He looks like a Pacman with film strips, lol. And when he evolved, the animation took a turn? Like it suddenly went into old black-and-white TV land. The music felt super old school, too. I kinda dug it, though? But, I must say, Abbadomon is a lot less intimidating than Millenniumon . . .
So we get all these shots of people in the real world watching the battle . . . and not a single 02 cameo, lol. Toei! COME ON! It would’ve been pretty damn neat! And super easy to do? :P They could’ve just looked similar to Ken and co., lol.
I really liked the second half where the existence of “the other four” (Sora, Mimi, Jou and Koushirou) were eaten by Abbadomon. It was so eerie and it actually had the characters, you know, talk! Damn, I miss that. I miss characters being actual people. :P
Sora: “Taichi . . . Yamato . . .” Why yes, I did appreciate this. Why? Take a wild guess. uwu
The light of hope stuff is, again, obviously inspired by the OG - and is actually fine. :P And while “the other four” are obviously not on the frontlines of the battle, I think their part was great TBH - it worked for me. I prefer these moments more than just attack, attack, attack. :P
Plus, they had a nice evolution montage thing where they all spoke with their Digimon partners. Screentime at last! uwu
There was a surprising Devimon and SkullKnightmon cameo that I dug quite a bit, lol.
And what we’ve all been waiting for - even though he appeared almost immediately at the beginning of the series: Omegamon! His evolution sequence was super cool - and, well, Omegamon himself is just a freakin’ badarse. uwu GET HYPE!
Overall, I actually quite enjoyed it. A solid penultimate episode - and honestly better than expected from this reboot, lmao. Sure, they’re borrowing heavily from the OG - but at least it was done competently. I have (almost) no qualms about this specific retelling. :P
Next episode: THE FINAL ONE! Climax and resolution in 20 minutes, lol.
But the end of this series will be very bittersweet for me . . .
See you then.

Digimon Adventures ~ Japanese version + IMPORTANT MOMENTS / DIALOGUES / QUOTES + PARALLELS / REFERENCES to other past Adventures media + THEORIES / {POSSIBLE} POTENTIAL / FUTURE CALLBACKS?
{Note: This post was published before the knowledge/announcement and later release of “The Beginning”’s existence, and also before “Digimon Adventure:” 2020 (Reboot series) finished airing. Regardless, please feel free to check out my past commentary, canon references referred to, and theorizing that may still work depending!}
Ryo Akiyama:
Hey, Agumon? Why am I here? You said something about help?
Agumon: It was supposed to be all over! Mugendramon {MACHINEDRAMON (in US)} {Adventure} and Chimeramon {02} became one! The Digital World's time axis slipped and revived the defeated Devimon and Etemon [into the current timeline]! [...] Agumon: So... The Network's time axis went screwy and made another world and Chimeramon and Mugendramon... [...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryo: This is a computer world, right? Something's making it go strange and Agumon and his friends' venture, which was supposed to have ended, began again? Agumon (happy): That's it, you got it.
Gennai: Agumon did not explain to satisfaction. I'll have to explain. (full screen of SEASON 1 VILLAINS)
Gennai: Once, evil digimon such as Devimon and Etemon were trying to take over the world. However, from the world of humans came the Chosen Children who, together with the power of Agumon, Gabumon, Patamon, and others, brought peace back to the world. But that defeat would not last. (full screen of MILLENNIUMON)
Gennai: Chimeramon and Mugendramon. Originally, these two accidentally created an unnatural FUSION digimon. After being defeated by Taichi and the others, they {Chimeramon and Mugendramon} fused in order to survive and were reborn into something new and ABNORMAL *: *Two things: Gennai uses the masculine {form of Japanese} to refer to them, and it's implied that the fusion was mutually done. It's also implied that the result of the fusion is distinct from Chimeramon and Mugendramon. Ryo: That means they turned into a terrible digimon, right? Gennai: His name is Millenniumon! He is the root of all evil. Millenniumon's dark power is incomparable. His disruption of time is destroying this world!
Agumon: So, the evil digimon truly should have been defeated and it was all over, but now our battles have to restart! Gennai: By all rights, those Digimon who were defeated in battles should have stayed defeated. Taichi and the others are trapped. The only one I could warp here was Agumon. Agumon: In the hopes of finding someone, I used Taichi's name to access the human world. I needed someone with enough faith to touch the digivice. Ryo. What will you do?
Ryo: I see. I'm the substitute. Chimeramon and Mugendramon fused into Millenniumon, who remains undefeated and trapped Taichi-kun and the others, who need to be saved. Agumon asked for my help for this. Agumon (begging): Ryo! You're our only hope! Please! Help us!
Gennai: In the summer of 1999, Taichi, Yamato, and the others, along with Agumon and others, came to save the Digital World. The Digital World became peaceful AFTER the defeat of Apocalymon.
Tumblr media
However, Mugendramon and Chimeramon, barely surviving, became a new Digimon. They became Millenniumon.
By going back in time, Millenniumon would throw the adventure of Taichi and the others into chaos. That you prevented.
Gennai: Millenniumon was destroyed by your power, but he revived again and again. However, through the efforts of you and the Digimon, he has been obstructed every time. That's right. You fought together with the Digimon Kaiser-- rather, Ichijouji Ken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, during the last battle, you and Millenniumon were blown away in an explosion. You to the world of the past, him to the world of the FUTURE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
{“TAG TAMERS” ENDING}:
(Millenniumon revives and a Dark Seed shoots forth. Ken shouts:) Ken: Watch out!
(Ken runs up and gets hit by the Dark Seed and collapses. Wormmon races to his side.) Wormmon: Ken!
(Everyone else rushes to Ken's side) Wormmon: Aaah! Ken! KEN!!
Millenniumon: Hahhahha... I cannot die... Your {*Ryo’s} holy power may persist. I too... my dark power too is eternal... Absorbed... spirit...
(Millenniumon disintegrates. There is a fade-out and the scene cuts to Gennai's house, where everyone surrounds a sleeping Ken. Wormmon monologues.) Wormmon: Ken... Ken... In order to save us, he... in order to save... Ohhh... Ken... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry... Ken...
(Ken wakes up) Ken: Nn...
(Everyone is happy he's awake) Wormmon: Ken!
(Scene fades out to a series of full-screen images and Wormmon monologues again.) Wormmon: Thus our adventure was over. Through the courage and efforts of Ryo and Ken, all evil vanished. Taichi and Ryo went back to the real world. If something happens to the Digital World, they'll come back. Ken stayed in this world to rest until the wound he received healed. After a while it healed. However, Ken has changed a bit. The black mass that hit him that time... Ken became cold. But I believe, surely Ken will become gentle again someday. Ken was injured for our sake. Now I... I will protect Ken. I believe someday the three of us might go on an adventure again. I believe...
(The credits roll and then comes an epilogue. The only epilogue in the 4-game Ryo vs Millenniumon cycle. The scene: the Kaiser and Wormmon walk up to a cliff overlooking what's probably the Dark Ocean.) Digimon Kaiser: I have returned to show this world... I am different from Millenniumon. I am... I am... I am the Digimon Kaiser!
(The screen scrolls up to a starry sky and "The End" in English. *This is, however, only the second game in four.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
{Ken begins to hear DEVIMONS’ echoing evil laughter}
Tumblr media Tumblr media
{Ken begins to scream in his terror after he looks}
It's said that Millenniumon ALREADY DOMINATES THE WORLD OF THE FUTURE.

{various cards depicting the various forms of MILLENNIUMMON. Note the middle cards showing him in the same form of a being with two heads and glowing red eyes encased inside a Crystal.}

But for complete dominance, the source of the Digital World, the ENIAC, must be completely destroyed so that he may remake history to his liking and achieve total domination.

“But... we shall wait for”
“THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY” “THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY” “The next opportunity” “The next opportunity.”
(Interviewer): –Incidentally, is Ryou Akiyama {Tamers} THE SAME as the Ryou from 02…? Hiromi Seki: Of course he is (laughs). Hiroyuki Kakudou: I’ve said this before in some other interview, but I was really shocked. Like, wait, really? (laughs) Kaizawa: He appeared in 02 based on what was going on at the time, right? Seki: He did, he did. Kaizawa: We cast (Junichi) Kanemaru-san as Ryou Akiyama’s voice actor. He had a really bright and refreshing voice, so as soon as we’d casted him, we ended up deciding to give him that kind of personality. Like, “oh, that refreshing guy” (laughs). Seki: If Ryou-kun had actually been in the 2000 summer movie, {*Hurricane Touchdown/The Golden Digimentals, as they had once originally planned for Ryo[u]} he might not have ended up with that kind of refreshing personality. Kaizawa: We had some kind of trouble with voice acting when it came to Ryou Akiyama. Cyberdramon was voiced by (Ikkei) Seta-san, so normally, when Cyberdramon evolves into Justimon, Seta-san should be the one to do the voice. But in actuality, Ryou Akiyama’s voice actor, Kanemaru-san, was the one to do it. The reason for this is that when Justimon shows up, he’s a really “cool” character, and he’s kind of like some kind of transforming hero…so we thought, if he’s going to greet them with that refreshing “hey guys!”, that’s more of a thing suited to Kanemaru-san’s voice. Seta-san was like, “why not me?…” It’s a pretty funny story.
–Ken’s recollection scene had a certain character named Ryou appear in it. Seki: I think it had some kind of relation to one of the second series’s movies. When we were working on the second series’s summer movie with (Director) Yamauchi-san, we actually had a lot of different proposals for the plot. One of the first proposals we came up with had Ryou-kun appear in it, and I’m certain the theme of the movie even had some slogan like “there’s a Digimon waiting for you.” Think of it like some kind of imaginary plot that’s since vanished. So we were planning to go with this until the beginning of February {2000}, but then it all eventually fell through. We figured, okay, this is probably too sad for a summer movie. Somewhere along the line there it must have ended up picking up a really sad aura…
[...] Terriermon’s popularity was incredible. I said earlier that “the plot with Ryou-kun fell through~”, but Terriermon was actually still planned to be in that one too. So Ryou-kun’s partner Digimon might have actually been Terriermon…

- Digimon Adventure: Childrens’ War Game Storyboards Book {translation via and with credit to Onkei of website Digital Scratch} (check comments for link!)
{from the Tag Tamers summary by site “Yesterday”}: At the end of New Year's Eve of 1999, two chimera-type digimon fused together to survive. The resulting digimon, Millenniumon, then generated a time slip that resurrected many of the evil digimon deleted in the summer of 1999 and captured the Chosen Children. In a last-ditch effort to rescue the Chosen Children and defeat Millenniumon, a young boy with no digivice or digimon partner of his own was summoned into the Digital World. With the aid of Agumon and the other Chosen Childrens' digimon, he defeated Millenniumon and released the Chosen. He was then sent back. Several months later, the game begins anew as he and his friend, Ken, watch the Omegamon vs. Diablomon battle of the Bokura no War Game movie. Once Diablomon is defeated, however, Ryo and Ken are called to the Digital World to take out a Diablomon clone. It soon proves to be a trap laid by Millenniumon to lure Ryo back into the Digital World, then the world splits in two and Ryo and Ken must tag team to defeat Millenniumon on both halves of the world. (Yes, in games, 02!Ryo was involved in “Our War Game” canon. Seki confirms he’s the same Ryo as the one in the games and Tamers.)

Digimon Adventure 02: Tag Tamers - First Impressions
Woohoo! I'm so excited to get back to the Wonderswan games. I actually didn't know Anode/Cathode Tamer had sequels, but it does. For some reason I assumed "tag tamers" was going to be a fighting game lol. Also, it's a bit funny to go from color to black and white, but I guess this game came out before the Veedramon version of Anode/Cathode Tamer, so it makes sense. Initial thoughts after one hour of gameplay below.
Notes:
-Damn, why does this game get no love?? There's like one single walkthrough and every time I google "Tag Tamers," the 3rd game comes up instead. Pretty random, but oh well.
-Excited to go back to pixel graphics and old timey gaming music. Nostalgic to my childhood when I played the OG Pokemon games. Also happy to be playing a simpler, shorter game after Digital Card Battle threatened to go on and on for 100+ hours. (Some games are just too damn long!)
-Already see that they've added some quality of life features (digimon daycare) and new stuff to make things more interesting (jogress, armor). I'm glad it's still pretty simplistic though.
-They changed the battle system from that tactical style where you move your digimon around to just basic turn-based combat. I feel like this is kinda a downgrade, but also easier to turn my brain off to, so I guess it's fine...
-Sad that I have to put up with random encounters now. I don't feel like they add much to the game. If I wanted to grind I could just replay dungeons.
-Love all of the continuity nods! The game starts out during the events of Our War Game and then moves onto Ken's backstory. He meets Ryo and Wormmon, as shown in the anime. I wonder if the whole Digimon Emperor stuff will come up...? (Probably not).
-I was very excited to play as Ken for the first time since he's my fave from 02. Also good to see his early relationship with Wormmon, so cute!
-The "mirror site" concept is interesting. I like how it plays into the "digital world" theme in a clever way. I guess "tag tamers" refers to the fact that I'll be switching back and forth from Ken to Ryo. Is Gennai in both worlds though? That part's foggy at the moment...
-Felt pretty weird defeating Diaboromon with Veemon lol. Don't really get why they started the game like that.
-It's cool to see that you can buy the higher powered items from the start of the game. That really makes it feel like a continuation of Anode/Cathode Tamer.
-Millenniumon's design is hella ugly. I like his name tho lol. Very Y2K

Digimon 02 survey! Part 3
Well, well, well. Look what we have here. Villains and antagonists. I've been expecting them. And they've been expecting YOU. Maybe. Who knows.
But what kind of antagonist would you want to see in this hypothetical sequel, if any? Anyone we know already? Someone new? Digimon, human, or other? Remember to vote the evil, or not so evil, or your preference!
And yes, it's not technically confirmed that all of these are necessarily antagonistic —not gonna name any names— but I tried to cover all popular options.

So, there are a lot of plot points to discuss for the last minute reveals, but let's start with Dark Seeds.
Dark Seeds (Dark Spores in the dub) are pieces of Millenniumon that initially got stuck inside Ken in the end of Tag Tamers WonderSwan game. Millenniumon itself is a Jogress of Mugendramon of Dark Masters, and Chimairamon from WonderSwan games, who is a random Dark Digimon associated with Dark Masters (it can be considered as a sort of collective herald of the Dark Masters).
Their life cycle has them grow from Dark Seeds to Dark Flowers to Dark Trees. We don't see Dark Trees in the 02 series, though there are many fanon interpretations. Since Dark Flowers are spider lilies representing death, presumably Dark Trees would have been Japanese cherry blossoms representing death.
As for why Millenniumon's pieces are plants, one of Millenniumon's final forms is Zeed Millenniumon, which is an evil tree, Exdeath style. So presumably each of these Dark Trees would eventually reconstruct Zeed Millenniumon, the same way Vamdemon reconstructed itself, or how Great Demon Lords can use human vessels to manifest themselves.
This is also presumably why Ken created Chimairamon, to reconstruct a new body for the old Millenniumon (which also means if Kaiser arc continued, he would have created a Mugendramon to match it, since Mugendramon is also an amalgam of various Digimon).
As for why Vamdemon needs them, it is a simpler explanation. Each of the Dark Masters, depending on the canon, are either pieces of Apocalymon delegated to rule over different Families of Digimon, or Digimon that were exalted by them. Vamdemon is part of Piemon's Nightmare Soldiers, was its previous canonical pre-evolution before Wisemon, and repurporsed as its Jogress partner for Voltobautamon. Since Millenniumon is also part Mugendramon, going from one Dark Master to another is not a big stretch.
As for why Demon needs this power, it is a bit more unclear. One possible explanation is that he is seeking Millenniumon's dimension warping power to turbo charge the merger of the multiverse, as Great Demon Lords can simply extract dark powers from humans, and travel between realms by their own power, but they cannot terraform the worlds in large, and fast scale.
The second likelihood is that, since it is implied that Great Demon Lords of Adventure era were the original celestial hierarchy, and Seraphimon & Holydramon's Golden Digimental powers come from Lucemon, who is the prototype of all Angel Digimon, Demon's longer goal might have been to take back the crests that were implied to be originally theirs before their fall, using the corrupt children as evil Chosen Children to steal the crests.
However, this is all speculative, in the series proper Dark Seeds are just generic Evil MacGuffins that cause evilness. Nonetheless, any of these speculation can become the basis of a reinterpretation in a future 02 project.

Dreaming To Reality: Oneiromancy Chapter Eight - 02
The image was enough to dampen MarinDevimon’s enthusiasm towards the idea. “...Yeah,” he said after a significant pause. “I think that’s one experience I’m fine missing out on.”
Nyamon gave a nod with a small, wry smile on her face. “Good idea.”
“So, where exactly is it taking us?” Takeru asked as he watched Monodramon head the way, the dragon’s gem and the crest of Miracles both still glowing brightly. “Is Zeed Millenniumon really just… hiding on the bottom of the Dark Ocean, with Ryo? How would he not drown?”
“Those are some very good questions,” Black Tailmon said. “Unfortunately, the only one to ask would be Zeed - and I don’t think anyone wants to talk to him.”
Taichi’s expression was grim as he kept sharp watch on their surroundings, before he paused when he noticed Koshiro walking while holding his laptop out. “What’s up, Koshiro?”
Koshiro glanced over his shoulder at the Chosen of Courage. “I’m running a charting program. That way, if we lose the path, we can find our way out.”
“Koshiro, if we lose our path, we’ll be underwater,” Blade Kuwagamon said.
Koshiro paused at that, then grimaced. “Uh, well…”
“Naw, it’s still a very good idea,” FlaWizarmon said, with a wave of his hand. “Sure, it won’t do no good then but it don’t mean it’d never do you any good.”
“What he’s trying to say, dearie, is to not be discouraged,” Witchmon said. “It never hurts to have as many plans in place as possible.”
Koshiro smiled awkwardly at that as he felt a rush of relief but also embarrassment at the praise he was receiving. “R-right! That’s what I think, too.”
Keiko shook her head slowly. “The water of the Dark Ocean isn’t like normal water anyway. You can breathe in it just fine if you need to. The Dark Ocean was meant to be a trial, not an actual ocean.”
“What do you mean by that?” Koshiro asked, his eyes alight with eager curiosity as he turned to Keiko, already taking notes on his laptop.
Keiko paused for a moment, her gaze scanning the area around them before she gestured vaguely off in some direction beyond one of the golden walls. “Mama’s domain is across the ocean. When Digimon die, they are supposed to sail across the ocean to reach her at the top of the Crystal Tower. If they reach there, they will be reborn.”
