2003 Splinter is the best Dad-Splinter. He teaches his sons ninjutsu but he also watches movies with them on dedicated movie nights and goes for ice cream after to talk about the movie they just saw. He's there for his kids and he loves sitcoms. He calls them his sons and tells all of them, all the time, individually and as a group, that he's proud of them and that he loves them. He makes jokes all the time but he's still serious about protecting and teaching them. He was never a human in this version, but he did lose his Master Yoshi. And then, he accepted the responsibility of being a Guardian, preventing the end of the world by fighting the Shredder, and while he passed down that responsibility to his sons, he let them choose do it, he didn't try to force it on them. He tried to fight the Ninja Tribunal, alone, when they tried to take his sons for a nebulous "grand destiny" he was certain they'd die for. Man wanted to fight demi-gods for his sons! Compared to every other version, he's just got the best balance of Dad-Sensei down perfectly.

Day 14: Change
As much as I love 03 Splinter, his snoot just makes me think of “didn’t I do it for you” dog.
And as you’ve seen in some of my Splinter posts, he looks more like a rat and I just wanted to see how different it was. He actually looks great either way.

Love the implication in 03 TMNT that mastering ninjutsu basically gives you super powers whenever the plot needs you to, up to and including the ability to psychically call out to your father to help supply you with the mental fortitude to withstand being tortured by a mind probe that is combing your memories for information.

Summary: "He hovers in the main room, the night-time ritual completed. Because it has been completed, he reminds himself. There is no reason to repeat it.
And yet…"
Leo has done an excellent job of hiding whatever it is that's wrong with him. Tonight, though, he's tired of pretending.
Or, Leo has OCD and lets his dad comfort him.

Ones hands can tell the story of how they’ve lived… and how far they have come.
I’m a sucker for Good Dad Splinter ever since I watched TMNT ‘03. That rat was gifted sapience and his immediate instinct was kindness. I love that for him.
Rise Splinter lived a rollercoaster of a life, but as a Hollywood star he remembered the names of all his stunt guys and coworkers, and as a prisoner he cared for the rat that shared his cell. His sons are very close and physically affectionate, I think that says something about how he cares? That’s just how I like to headcanon him :)
It’s interesting to explore the idea that a seemingly monstrous transformation is what pushed him to be a kinder human
