Bodhisattva Cintāmaṇicakra, 9-10th century
Heian period, Japan
Wood, single block construction
Height: 94.9
Important Cultural Property
The legend said that this statue was discovered in the sea of Tango region. The carving technique of the early Heian period can be seen on the stern face with connected eyebrows, as well as the thick and broad body structure. The scarf-like cloth (jōhaku) was draped widely which is rare to see, it leads a theory that this statue belongs to the Tendai sect. Collection of the Nara National Museum

Santa Severina, Calabria, Italy
Santa Severina is a hilltop town perched on a cliff overlooking the Neto River Valley.
The town's strategic hilltop location made it an important fortress and trading post during different periods. Over the centuries, Santa Severina developed into a charming medieval town, preserving its historical character and traditions.
The heart of Santa Severina is its historical centre, characterized by narrow cobbled streets, ancient buildings, and charming squares. Visitors can take leisurely walks through the town's alleys and admire its medieval charm.
The Santa Severina Baptistery is one of few structures of its kind in southern Italy. Dating back to the Byzantine period of the tenth century.
Slightly hidden from view and just around the corner from the cathedral's impressive facade, it has its own separate entrance.

here on this fine day to spread my agenda: uhtred's actually a good dad to aethelstan. edward can have his other children, but aethelstan is uhtred's little boy. uhtred is his mom, dad and cool uncle all in one and i think that's beautiful actually
for those who choose to reblog/comment! if you’d be so kind to take a moment and write a few words in your tags/comments, I’d be very grateful!
I’m messing around with some stuff and your input would be super helpful! can you please say:
1. when you saw these pieces, did you immediately notice anything weird/off about them/their quality? did you notice it when looking closer at them or specifically looking for it after reading this question?
2. was it distracting/annoying/unpleasant to look at? or did you just take it as part of the piece/chosen texture and were fine with it?
please be honest, I swear I won’t take offense at anything you might say, I just want to know your opinion!
thank you so much to those who indulge me in this request!)

Fragments of Crosses from Bath, England dated between 900 - 1000 on display at Bath Abbey in Bath, England
These are part of two crosses carved in a typical Germanic stonework style in England. The site of Bath Abbey is thought to have been a site of Christian worship going back to King Osric of Hwicce (modern day Worcestershire and Gloucestershire). Before hand there was the Roman temple to Sulis Minerva a Romano-British goddess.
