Hannibal Fic Recs

I’ve seen a couple of those floating around lately so I thought I’d do one too. Here are some of my favourite fics in the fandom.

1. Rediscovered Treasures by Nalyra (@allione). Will finds Hannibal's stash "erotica" from around the world. Hannibal of course claims that it's all "art"--very sophisticated and classy--and Will is just like, "that is a woman fucking a squid ffs”.

(sending a million kisses to allione because this is the fic that made me start writing for this fandom ❤)

2. Omiai by iesika (@iesika). Will acquires a murderous secret admirer, and learns how much easier the habit of violence can be with an enthusiastically willing target.

A courtship through blood and… other means of influence.

3. Sounders of Three by inameitlater. "The Chesapeake Ripper kills in sounders of three.

"In which Will continues his journey after the events of "We Killed a Dragon Last Night".

4. Ravenous by rageprufrock. Clarice Starling meets Hannibal Lecter armed with a copy of the Buffalo Bill file.

Autoimmune encephalitis can be a recurring disease,” Hannibal says, as gently as Will has ever heard him.“Oh, god.” Will brings his hands up and covers his face. I can’t very well just check myself into a hospital and say ‘Hi, I have a history of this rare autoimmune disease that a fugitive who looks exactly like me is known for having’, can I?”

Will has a relapse of his encephalitis, but Hannibal and their dogs take good care of him.

6. The Torment of Tantalus by InfiniteCrisis (@crisisoninfintefandoms). Set in Cuba after the fall. Hannibal isn’t touching Will. Will wants to know why, but is afraid to ask.

Sexual and emotional tension and resolution; a comedy of errors told by the ocean and classical mythology.

Chiyoh had shot Will down in the street, his forgiveness falling with a clatter to the pavement. Hannibal, once intent on his belief that only by consuming Will could he be free of him, decides impulsively to try something a little different than what he had planned.

Or: What if Hannibal hadn't tried to eat Will after he drugged him in Florence? What if he'd decided to run away with him instead?

8. Out Of The Depths by TiggyMalvern (@tiggymalvern). After the fall, Hannibal gets away and Will is left behind to deal with Jack, and the wreckage.

9. Physis by Chifuyu (@staticraining). After everything that has happened in Italy, there is still one last obstacle Will Graham has to overcome before he can try and pick up the broken pieces that once were his life: Being a witness at Hannibal Lecter’s trial.

10. The Sun’s Light Failed by shiphitsthefan (@shiphitsthefan). “I know what you are," Will tells him. "You’re the Ripper. I see you."

A long pause, and then Hannibal very carefully says, “You shouldn’t speak of such things. I dread the thought of you and calamity meeting under inconspicuous circumstance.”

Will steps forward into Hannibal’s space; he eases down to his knees in front of him, but never breaks eye contact, and it doesn’t hurt to look at Hannibal. It’s like looking into a carnival mirror; they’re the same, but different. “That isn’t a denial."

Hannibal takes a deep breath. He reaches out and brushes his fingers along Will’s cheek. His hand is trembling. “Does the lamb come so freely to the slaughter?

11. “NIGHT OF THE RIPPER” by EvilAdmin. Life finally seems to be on the upswing for 24-year-old Wolf Trap police officer Will Graham when he receives a letter from the FBI Academy informing him that he's been accepted into their program for the upcoming semester. But fate intervenes with a cruel and ironic twist when Will walks into a house and discovers a murder scene, and he recognizes the M.O. as that of the Chesapeake Ripper, a killer who’s been on the FBI’s ten most wanted list for the past two years. But the shock of finding a Ripper murder scene in Wolf Trap is only the beginning as Will soon realizes that the Ripper is still in the house. And so begins a night of terror for Will as he tries to stay one step ahead of one of the most ruthless and cunning killers in the country, while also trying to prove to himself that he's worthy enough to join the ranks of the F.B.I.

12. through a glass by amare. He went to sleep in an asylum; he woke up in a reality not his own. Will's either gone down the rabbit hole of his own unstable mind, or he's ended up someplace else entirely. (The non-opaque summary: Will wakes up in a universe where he and Hannibal are dating.)

13. Variation on Persephone by dornfelder (@uniwolfwerecorn). When they speak of Kore, they never talk about how she had, in truth, been Persephone all along.

14. The Thorn of the Rose by AGlassRoseNeverFades (@aglassroseneverfades). "Beware," it is said, "Beware, beware, do not go into the forest at night." Yet go Will must in order to save his best friend Alana after she goes missing in that gloomy, forbidden wood. He finds her in the dungeons of an abandoned castle at the heart of the forest, imprisoned by a fearsome horned beast. A bargain is struck, one life in exchange for another, and Will learns that all is not as it seems in the ruins of Castle Lecter.

15. To Beg by jonnimir (@ethicsbecomeaesthetics). Hannibal blinked, taken aback by the sudden turn of phrase. Then his upper lip curled. “I beg your pardon?”

Will looked phenomenally unconcerned for someone whose tongue Hannibal was idly contemplating serving as an amuse-bouche. If anything he looked satisfied at throwing Hannibal off-balance, a smile playing around his lips. He straightened his back, raised a brow, and said with relish: “Then beg.”

Hannibal finds himself unexpectedly attracted to Will's dominance. Will stumbles upon his submissive streak by accident, and is quick to seize this opportunity.

16. Blood and Feathers and Antlers by TheSilverQueen (@thesilverqueenlady). When Will was a young fawn, all he ever wanted was to grow up as proud and strong as his idol, the Prince of the Forest, Jack. And then one day he wandered off the path and into the strangest pool he'd ever seen. It was red as those sharp roses whose thorns Will had learned the hard way not to eat and smelled like the metal that he'd seen two-legs leave behind. It takes a few drinks to realize that it's blood. When he jumps back in shock, he ends up bumping into the biggest stag he's ever seen, bigger than Will's father, bigger than even the great Prince of the Forest, with antlers as tall as Will himself and feathers as black as night.

"Hello, little fawn," says the Ravenstag, "what have we here?"

17. Proximity by victorine (@victorineb). Hannibal’s hand is halfway to stroking down Will’s spine before he catches himself. He is achingly hard and the source of his arousal is inches from him, blissfully unaware. Slowly, he draws his hand back and lets it slide downwards, towards the swell of his erection, letting out a hiss as he grazes against the silk that is barely containing it.

This is… rude. Inexcusably so. Were he entirely in control, Hannibal would surely retreat into his mind palace and wait until he was less affected.

But…

Hannibal cannot touch Will as he aches to. So he touches himself instead.

18. Hannibal: Pushing Us Into Self-Destruction by IBegToDreamAndDiffer (@ibegto-dreamanddiffer). Clarice Starling needs help with a case, so she pays a visit to Will Graham, who's incarcerated in the Baltimore Sate Hospital with his partner.

19. Pattern Break by ThisBeautifulDrowning. Will knew what had happened. He knew exactly how Abigail's ear had gotten into him, who had shoved it down his throat. He also knew that trying to indicate Hannibal as a killer again was futile. Jack seemed to want to believe him, going by the conversation in the BSHCI's visitor hall, but Jack needed something concrete, evidence. Hannibal had eluded capture for so long, he wasn't going to start leaving fingerprints or hairs at his crime scenes now.No, Will was going to deal with Hannibal Lecter on his own terms. The man deserved to reap what he'd so carefully sowed, didn't he? He deserved to experience what he'd coaxed forth from the bottom of Will's soul, to see the result of his machinations.

After his release from the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, Will doesn't return to work for the FBI.

20. Atavism by RubyBakeneko (@rubybakeneko). Will and Hannibal have prolific amounts of sex, but Will refuses to accept tenderness or affection. When Hannibal objects, Will thinks it’s with the aim of controlling him and fostering further dependency. He roleplays as his former self to try and prove his point, steadfastly ignoring his own underlying feelings and motivations. The results are predictably messy.

When Mike goes to listen to Waller’s speech, and spends the whole time in a terror that Psmith is going to cause some kind of scene--only for him to be the one to start a brawl.

The wit, the confidence, the quirky way with words--and the fact that it’s all hiding a very vulnerable person and a loyal friend.

4. Favorite thing about Mike

The way that he repeatedly sacrifices himself for the sake of others without a thought for the consequences to himself.

I love Billy Windsor so much. Psmith’s cowboy journalist guide to the grimy streets of New York. Who else would be both sane enough and weird enough to serve as a kind-of mentor to someone as strange as Psmith?

Bickersdyke just seems like the platonic ideal of a Psmith antagonist: someone very petty with a lot of power and lots of flaws for Psmith to exploit. Their dynamic is hilarious.

'Between ourselves,' confided Psmith, 'I'm dashed if I know what's going to happen to me. I am the thingummy of what's-its-name.'

'You look it,' said Mike, brushing his hair.

'Don't stand there cracking the glass,' said Psmith.

(It’s one of the most real and relatable moments of their friendship.)

13. Favorite book in the series

Probably Leave It to Psmith. Except for the lack of Mike, it’s hard to think of any flaws with it.

14. Least favorite book in the series

It probably has to be Psmith, Journalist because it has the most obvious flaws, but it pains me to list it here because I love the character development and the sheer weirdness of the book when compared to the rest of Wodehouse’s output (a cat-loving gangster! where else are you going to get that?).

15. Any extra scenes you wish the books had included?

I wish we could have seen the rest of Psmith’s heckling of Bickersdyke, rather than getting an edited summary from Psmith. I wish we could have had some scenes of Psmith at the fish market, because that would have been so weird to see him in that environment. And I wish we’d have had lots more scenes of Mike and Phyllis. To name a few.

16. Is there anything you’d change about any of the books?

I’d let Eve find the necklace in Leave It to Psmith. In Psmith in the City, I’d give Psmith one unequivocal moment of doing something nice for Mike (that didn’t involve blackmailing anyone and couldn’t be interpreted as just another kind of selfishness).

17. Any headcanons about the events/characters in the books?

Most of them come from other people. You know who you are.

18. Any headcanons about what happens after the end of the series?

19. Any ideas of what a musical AU would look like?

If we’re talking about “the books as a musical”, I suggest we take Leave It to Psmith, the one that best fits Wodehouse’s genre of “musical comedy without the music” and, well, add music. Emsworth gets Winnie-the-Pooh-type pottering songs. Psmith and Eve get a short little love theme about the umbrella in the rain that gets further developed when they actually fall in love. The two gangsters get a very jazzy villain duet. Miss Peavey gets a song that contrasts her sickly sweet poetess side with her gritty, hard-nosed criminal side. Freddie gets a song comparing his life to the movies. Baxter gets sing-talky Frustration Songs. Let’s find a way to give Phyllis and Mike a love song, too (or at least a song talking about their courtship).

But can we also consider...High School Musical AU. Mike, the kid who was forced into drama club to “help with his social anxiety” reluctantly discovers that he likes acting in musicals and is set to be a star in his school’s big production next year when he gets kicked out because of some ill-thought stunt he pulled when trying to help a friend get out of trouble. He goes to a new school and meets Psmith, the Ultimate Drama Kid who got pulled out of his very art-focused school because his grades were failing, and who has decided to sulk by not having anything to do with the drama club at this school. They both try to reinvent themselves by joining the school sports team. This tiny school has a tiny drama department that is being built up by the efforts of Adair, whose years in the drama club have helped him through a lonely childhood and who wants their school to be a source of Great Theater. During the school talent show, one of their friends’ acts has a member fall sick, leading Psmith to step up and show intense dramatic and musical talent and causing Adair to sweep him up for the school musical. Or at least try to. Psmith and Adair both clash because of prima donna tendencies and Psmith hasn’t forgotten some snarky remarks that Adair made about his supposed lack of musical talent. A school prank gone wrong leads suspicion to fall on Psmith and Mike tries to redirect suspicion by confessing to it himself, only for the real culprit to confess at the last minute. There’s some ridiculous Glee-style musical fight between Psmith and Adair, which leads the two to put aside their differences and gain respect for each other as artists. When Psmith learns that his old school had to pull out of a local theater festival because of widespread illness, he manages to put forward Sedleigh to fill the spot in the schedule, and their performance is a wild success that put Sedleigh on the map as a Decent Little Arts Program.

20. A favorite moment of character development?

I love Psmith learning about the squalor in New York’s slums and resolving to do something about it. And I love Mike’s moment of developing some social tact with Adair.

21. An underrated/easily overlooked moment/scene?

Psmith shows up for the first day of work in the bank, several hours late, and just sits himself down and starts entering numbers in a ledger. In the postage department.

22. What do you like best about the Psmith series?

I love how different each book is from the rest--makes it very easy to keep track of the books in the series (which can be a bit of a struggle with Wodehouse). I love the groundedness in the real world contrasted with the zaniness of some of the schemes and characters. And of course, I love the Mike and Psmith friendship.

23. Talk about anything you want related to the series

“The cry goes round” is such a wonderful catchphrase. It slays me every time. There are probably more meaningful things I could talk about here but I just wanted to mention that.

WASHINGTON — President Trump fired John R. Bolton, his third national security adviser, on Tuesday amid fundamental disagreements over how to handle major foreign policy challenges like Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan.

Mr. Trump announced the decision on Twitter. “I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.”

His departure comes as Mr. Trump is pursuing diplomatic openings with two of the United States’ most intractable enemies, efforts that have troubled hard-liners in the administration, like Mr. Bolton, who view North Korea and Iran as profoundly untrustworthy.

The president has continued to court Kim Jong-un, the repressive leader of North Korea, despite Mr. Kim’s refusal to surrender his nuclear program and despite repeated short-range missile tests by the North that have rattled its neighbors. In recent days, Mr. Trump has expressed a willingness to meet with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran under the right circumstances, and even to extend short-term financing to Tehran, although the offer has so far been rebuffed.

To his admirers, Mr. Bolton was supposed to be a check on what they feared would be naïve diplomacy, a cleareyed realist who would keep a president without prior experience in foreign affairs from giving away the store to wily adversaries. But Mr. Trump has long complained privately that Mr. Bolton was too willing to get the United States into another war.

The tension between the men was aggravated in recent months by the president’s decisions to call off a planned airstrike on Iran in retaliation for the downing of an American surveillance drone and to meet with Mr. Kim at the Demilitarized Zone and cross over into North Korea.

Mr. Bolton favored the strike on Iran and publicly criticized recent North Korean missile tests that Mr. Trump brushed off. After the president arranged the DMZ meeting with Mr. Kim via a last-minute Twitter message, Mr. Bolton opted not to accompany him and instead proceeded on a previously scheduled trip to Mongolia.

The rift between the president and his national security adviser owed as much to personality as to policy. The president never warmed to him, a dynamic that is often fatal in this White House. Mr. Bolton also clashed with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

At its core, the schism reflected a deep-seated philosophical difference that has characterized the Trump presidency. While given to bellicose language, Mr. Trump came to office deeply skeptical of overseas military adventures and promising negotiations to resolve volatile conflicts. Mr. Bolton, however, has been one of Washington’s most outspoken hawks and unapologetic advocates of American power to defend the country’s interests.

A former under secretary of state and ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush, Mr. Bolton, 70, never fully subscribed to Mr. Trump’s courtship of Mr. Kim and privately expressed frustration that the president was unwilling to take more meaningful action to transform the Middle East in the service of American interests.

Mr. Bolton was hamstrung in his ability to steer Mr. Trump in what he saw as the right direction. He also clashed with officials at the Defense Department. At one point, military officials expressed alarm at Mr. Bolton’s requests for contingency war plans.

While in office, Mr. Bolton sought to minimize his differences with the president in public. After Mr. Trump said he would be open to meeting with Mr. Rouhani and even to extending a line of credit to help Tehran get through its financial difficulties while talks proceeded, Mr. Bolton insisted that did not reflect a concession by the president.

“He’ll meet with anybody to talk,” Mr. Bolton told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. “He is a negotiator. He is a deal maker. But talking with them does not imply — for President Trump, does not imply changing your position.”

Appointed in spring 2018, Mr. Bolton followed Michael T. Flynn — who stepped down as national security adviser after 24 days and later pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I. — and his successor, Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, who never forged a strong connection with the president and was forced out.

In choosing Mr. Bolton, Mr. Trump appreciated his outspoken performances on Fox News and wanted a contrast to the current and retired generals who were perceived as running his foreign policy team. Mr. Bolton also had the strong backing of Sheldon G. Adelson, the casino magnate and Republican megadonor who is a key supporter of Mr. Trump.

Long before Mr. Trump popularized his “America First” slogan, Mr. Bolton termed himself an “Americanist” who prioritized a cold-eyed view of national interests and sovereignty over what they both saw as a fuzzy-headed fixation on democracy promotion and human rights. They shared a deep skepticism of globalism and multilateralism, a commonality that empowered Mr. Bolton to use his time in the White House to orchestrate the withdrawal of the United States from arms control treaties and other international agreements.

With Mr. Trump’s backing, Mr. Bolton likewise helped enact policies meant to pressure the Communist government in Cuba, reversing some but not all of the measures taken by President Barack Obama in a diplomatic opening to the island. Among other things, the Trump administration imposed limits on travel and remittances to Cuba and opened the door to lawsuits by Americans whose property was seized in the revolution in 1959.

But if Mr. Trump’s original national security team was seen as restraining a mercurial new commander in chief, the president found himself sometimes restraining Mr. Bolton. Behind the scenes, he joked about Mr. Bolton’s penchant for confrontation. “If it was up to John, we’d be in four wars now,” one senior official recalled the president saying.

Mr. Trump also grew disenchanted with Mr. Bolton over the failed effort to push out President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela. Rather than the easy victory he was led to anticipate, the president has found himself bogged down in a conflict over which he has less influence than he had assumed. The political opposition backed by the White House could not turn Venezuela’s military against Mr. Maduro and has been stuck in a stalemate for months.

The divergence between the two men was on display in May during the president’s first trip this year to Japan. After Mr. Bolton told reporters then that “there is no doubt” that North Korean short-range missile launches violated United Nations resolutions, Mr. Trump dismissed the concern, still eager to preserve his strained relationship with Mr. Kim.

“My people think it could have been a violation, as you know,” the president told reporters. “I view it differently.”

Mr. Trump likewise repudiated an idea of working to overthrow the government of Iran, a goal Mr. Bolton long advanced as a private citizen. “We’re not looking for regime change,” Mr. Trump said. “I just want to make that clear.”

After Iran was accused in June of damaging two tankers with explosives and then shot down the drone, Mr. Bolton favored a demonstration of force. He facilitated a recommendation by the national security team for an airstrike against Iranian radar and other facilities, which Mr. Trump initially accepted only to change his mind at the last minute out of what he said was concern over casualties that would result.

Mr. Bolton’s later absence from Mr. Trump’s trip to the DMZ and hourlong meeting with Mr. Kim seemed conspicuous. Mr. Bolton’s staff said he was only following through on his schedule by going to Mongolia, but right or wrong, it was taken as a sign that he was not fully on board with the president’s diplomatic overture to North Korea.

FLASHBack: Week 30 - Peanut Butter Jelly Time

On 13 November 2002, the seventh episode of the third season of the NBC comedy-drama show Ed, "The Wedding", featured Jennifer Bradley using the animation to try to cheer the titular Ed (Link should go to the 35:12 mark in that video).

On 20 November 2005, the sixteenth episode of the fourth season of Family Guy, "The Courtship of Stewie's Father", Brian the Dog tries to cheer Peter up by dressing up like the banana and singing the song. Later, in episode sixteen of season nine from 8 May 2011, "The Big Bang Theory", Stewie would use time travel to steal the moment from Brian.

In Fall of 2005, Ka-chew!, (the commericals division of animation studio Klasky Csupo), produced a public service announcement for Nickelodeon, Breakfast Time, modelled on Peanut Butter Jelly Time, but with a dancing plate and cutlery, and an original song sung by DJ Mighty Mi, Albert S and Balinda. This PSA would regularly air at 6am, marking the transition from the Nick-at-Night programming back to their more kid-oriented fare.

In January of 2006, Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline (savagely mock-interviewed here by Weird Al, the one artist to be featured on First-Class FLASHBack despite never having made a Flash Animation himself), was trying to promote his "Brazilian Ass-Shaker" of a new song, PopoZão. An enterprising YouTuber (whose name has been lost to time as the original video was taken down), discovered that KFed's head bobs worked even better as Peanut Butter Federline.

On 31 Janurary 2007, Sophat Peou attempted to get on American Idol wearing the banana suit and singing the song. He lasted in front of the judges for ten seconds before being dismissed as forgettable.

On 13 Descember 2009, the band Weezer released a music video for their song Pork and Beans. A celebration of dozens of internet memes, Peanut Butter Jelly time would end up referenced three times in the video. First the Banana appears as a logo on a t-shirt at the 50 second mark, then at 2:43, the Banana is revealed to be one of the masked ninjas attacking Afro Ninja, and finally at the 2:58 mark, the "IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!" caption from the original animation shows up.

In the World of Warcraft MMORPG, the dance for Male Tauren characters is based off of the Peanut Butter Jelly Time Banana, with some Noodle Dance and Raise the Roof thrown in for good measure. This same animation would be reused for the Draenei subrace, the Broken.

As predicted, Andrew’s head snaps up. “What about Aaron?” he asks sharply.

Beside him, Neil tenses.

“Glad you asked,” Kevin turns to the room, clicker in hand. “I’ve called you all here to this meeting-”

“Unofficially,” Dan grumbles.

“Eh. I’ll sanction it,” Jeremy shrugs.

Dan pins him with a look. “Blatant favoritism, Knox.”

“Yeah, I know,” Jeremy grins back at her, unashamed.

“-so that we could discuss something that’s come up with Aaron,” Kevin glares at the two of them. “Something that affects our team as a whole.”

“Oh no! What’s happened to my poor baby cousin?” Nicky says, clutching the cheese puff container closer to his chest before he looks around. “Wait – where is my poor baby cousin?”

“He’s got a study date tonight,” Kevin answers.

“Ah, like a date-date?” Matt grins. “Or your kind of date?”

Kevin glares at him. “He’s at the library with his study group.”

“A whole group, huh? Didn’t realize Aaron was so kinky,” Nicky wiggles his eyebrows.

Then he yelps when Andrew leans forward and flicks him in the ear.

Neil smirks.

“Oh, come on! Like you guys weren’t thinking the same thing!” Nicky tells them, frowning and rubbing his ear.

Kevin rubs his forehead and sighs heavily. Then he presses a button on the clicker, and the first slide of a PowerPoint shows up.

Kellie Pickler, Wes Brown to reunite in this summer's 'Wedding at Graceland' on Hallmark

Silver bells will give way to wedding bells when the Hallmark Channel in just a few months airs "Wedding at Graceland," the inevitable sequel to the cable television network's recent ratings smash, "Christmas at Graceland," Hallmark officials confirmed Monday.

To be filmed in Memphis in April on a production schedule even more whirlwind than the featured couple's courtship, "Wedding at Graceland" will reunite stars Kellie Pickler and Wes Brown as Laurel and Clay, the former Memphis sweethearts who rekindled their romance during "Christmas at Graceland."

Expect the nuptials to take place in the Graceland Wedding Chapel in the Woods, which opened during Elvis Week last year on the grounds of the Elvis Presley mansion.

The honeymoon will continue (at least for fans of Hallmark romance and for Memphis film crew workers in need of a job) when Pickler returns in a third Elvis-inspired Hallmark movie set for December. That film does not yet have a title, according to Pam Slay, Hallmark's senior vice president for network program publicity.

The third movie will be shot later in the year, and not back-to-back with the "Wedding" film, Slay said. Shooting on the second film likely will occur in July, on more or less the same schedule as "Christmas at Graceland" in 2018.

“Wedding at Graceland" will be the centerpiece of what Slay calls the Hallmark Channel's "'June Weddings' franchise." This "franchise" is an attempt to build a slate of original summer movies to match the appeal of the network's "Countdown to Christmas," an eight-week ratings juggernaut of romantic wish-fulfillment that now makes Hallmark the top network in December.

Shot in July in Memphis (with fake snow on the ground and actors in winter coats sweltering in the 90-plus-degree heat), "Christmas at Graceland" was the No. 1 Hallmark movie of the past year and the fourth highest-rated film in the channel's history.

"Hallmark came with an idea, and obviously it has blossomed into an extremely successful pairing and spectacular ratings," said Elvis Presley Enterprisese CEO Jack Soden, a Graceland fixture since Elvis' mansion was opened to the public in 1982. "You take Hallmark's large and dedicated audience and you take the Elvis fan world, and you have a match made in heaven."

To coordinate the two new movies, Hallmark will retain production offices in Memphis from March through July and possibly into the early fall. Some shooting for the productions could take place on sets erected inside the 20,000-square-foot Graceland Soundstage, the relatively new performance venue that — as its name indicates — was designed in hopes that one day it could serve double duty as a film location.

Re-purposing space on the Graceland campus for film and television production fits into the ambitious plans of Graceland overseer Joel Weinshanker, managing partner for Graceland Holdings LLC, the company that is the majority owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises. "The master plan is for two or three or even four buildings that would be suitable for production," Soden said.
