As previously mentioned, most of our blog and about 'Lucky Fortune' is solely based on indie and urban brands known for an inclusive target market.
This week we’ll be going through some of our favorite fashion archives of collaborations with brands we’ve been fortunate enough to have inspired all of us.
In 2023, as social media consumers, we start to pay close attention and notice what the future holds for these fashion brands. It's by scrolling through our Social Media feeds and taking notes on what is trending. We start to notice high fashion brands collaborating with brands with streetwear brands. It's interesting, because these urban brands may have less exposure and sold at a low price point. We can understand what these collaborations may do for the consumer. It may convince them to invest themself into a limited edition item and be the first to have it. Let's talk about it.
Moncler Maya 70 by Palm Angels® FALL 2022

Thought we've seen it all? When this collaboration dropped, it seemed to have light up the consumers world with new and behold features this down-filled jacket had to offer.
This collaboration became available to the public and website October 15, 2022 on moncler.com.
Francesco Ragazzi is the founder and designer of Italian streetwear brand Palm Angels. Ragazzi was working for Moncler in 2015, eventually becoming its creative director later in 2018.(BoF)

We may know now, this isn't Supremes last collab with high end luxury designer. We are seeing this become a trend for both iconic brands, every couple years with little marketing schemes behind it. What we do know is that, we are only able to get our hands on these drops by buying resell these days. As soon as it drops on Supremes website, it is sold out within minutes.

Maison Margiela x GENTLE MONSTER SPRING 2023
Believe it or not sunglasses will always be a part of luxury fashion as well as for everyday use. Why not mesh both styles into a pair of fabulous eyewear for all.
GENTLE MONSTER is a Korean eyewear brand founded by Hankook Kim in Seoul, Republic of Korea in 2011. This brand is able to execute and create high-quality eyewear at a reasonable cost. (Showstudio)
This year we have an upcoming collaboration with European designer brand, Maison Margiela and GENTLE MONSTER. This collaboration is giving us blue light protection for the eyes, as well as various frames and shapes to choose from for style.

Branding & Graphic Design
I tried my hand at creating a logo for my SolarPunk game in order to create a strong brand image. I wanted to try something a little outlandish, but still minimal and runic. I was greatly inspired by the clean circular font used by the Dune films. I created a draft of my vision by creating a simple template and using a basic brush in Photoshop. I wanted to try a vertical orientation as it's uncommon.

The characters are very abstract, and I was concerned about readability, so I decided to create versions where the characters moved from abstract to more traditional.

To gauge which version was most readable, I asked for feedback from my peers, which was useful and informative.
They liked the white sun, but also found it difficult to see it as an "o". I also received feedback that the vertical orientation was a little confusing and there was still a tendency to read it horizontally as "SPLUNNRK".
Taking this feedback on board, I created a horizontal version which I think turned out better in terms of quirky flow. I used the pen tool in Photoshop to create clean and crisp and scale-able characters.

I painted the background to express the vibe of the game I envision. It's a simple work, but for now is a great placeholder for the pre-production document I am producing. I'm going to work on a stronger graphic design element to raise it from an indie to AAA standard for my final delivery in August.
When working on the interior pages of my pre-production document, I continued the style of the cover page, but I quickly realised that it was looking like a menu at Disney's Space Mountain ride in the 2000's!

I started over and had a look at Behance for inspiration and watched a YouTube video on 15 Graphic Design Trends for 2024 by Philip VanDusen, 2023.

After trialing certain looks, I settled on a deconstructed and bold style which felt slick. The deconstructed text matched the spirit of my SolarPunk world as this society is not yet fully formed, they are fledglings in the discovery of a new Utopia.
While I think there's still room for better design, this was a solid improvement to the presentation of my game idea.

One downside to this design style is the deconstructed text may be a little challenging to read, so I used it very minimally for title pages and as a identifiable element down the left side of each page.

In the past 10 years, research in make-up transfer techniques has significantly evolved, marking a pivotal shift from the initial foundation with 3D modeling to state-of-the-art sophisticated AI models.
Initially, 3D modeling techniques were used to perform make-up transfer. They were given a reference image of a celebrity with make-up shades. Although it worked pretty well, certain aspects still remained a challenge like maintaining high-quality facial structure, skin layer composition, and matching the ground truth color of lipstick shade/foundations. 
These are some of the persisting hurdles that can’t be solved using classical image processing methods.
With the advancements in machine learning, deep learning algorithms, and augmented reality, there has been significant growth in building a viable virtual try-on model. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have been at the forefront of it, due to their ability to produce high-resolution realistic images.
Over the past decade, makeup transfer research has seen rapid advancements, with some methods offering significant insights, such as BeautyGAN, which enhances image quality through pixel-level histogram losses and introduces cycle consistency and perceptual loss to maintain identity information. 
For broader style transfer, such as in painting, CycleGAN was developed to train domain mapping functions with cycle consistency loss, using dual generators and discriminators, though it tends toward general rather than specific makeup styles. 
Despite the innovations, GAN-based methods lack an encoder, limiting the ability to adjust makeup intensity through latent space interpolation, a crucial feature for generating multiple makeup looks from a single reference. 
BeautyGlow and PSGAN have pushed the boundaries further, enabling makeup transfer even in images with large poses or expressions, overcoming the previous limitations of requiring well-aligned front perspective faces for successful makeup application.

Deep inverse graphics and learned differentiable renderers
This novel approach uses inverse graphics that deconstruct a given 3D image into its input instructions, that is then passed to an augmented reality renderer to mimic that image’s appearance in this context make-up transfer.
Traditionally, most AR renderers used for these problems are non-differentiable, meaning it’s not built to learn from its results and improve over time. 
Here, the inverse graphic methods use differentiable rendering to provide feedback during training.
The framework of this model is such that it uses a graphics encoder that analyzes an image and determines the exact set of instructions (parameters) needed to achieve a desired makeup. Here, the primary function of the encoder is to translate the input image into a computable form that the AR renderer can interpret.
Further, in this model, a trainable imitator generative network is introduced to act as a graphics-based differentiable renderer. The imitator will learn to imitate the non-differentiable renderer’s output by observing how different parameters affect the final image. 
To train the imitator, a sensitivity loss is proposed to closely learn the entanglement between different graphical parameters and the resulting make-up effects. 
Once the imitator reliably replicates the AR renderer’s technique of understanding the nuances of parameter changes, it’s used to train the graphics encoder. The encoder then learns to generate the right set of instructions for any given image by receiving feedback on its performance.
In the inference stage, the imitator is removed from the equation and the encoder is directly used to analyze images and generate parameters. These parameters are then used by the AR renderers for the actual rendering process, making way for real-time VTO experiences.
Thus the maturing stride in research for real-time VTO capabilities has led to the adoption of these innovative techniques by the cosmetic industry, shaping consumer trends in the digital age.
