my favourite historical era to daydream about is that span of a few decades between 1890 and 1914ish. late victorian, fin de siècle, edwardian. there’s just something so exciting about it. the world on the brink of radical change, of catastrophe and decimation but they don’t know that for now, the twentieth century hasn’t been inaugurated as the bloodiest quite yet, all that looms ahead is a boundless bouquet of potential, invention, adventure. a turning point in time. spiritualism and the hereafter are in the air all clashing and collaborating and cooperating with rationality and progress and scientific advancement, technology and faith, mysticism and machines, the arts marching on into modernism and abstraction but not quite yet; there’s a future on your doorstep, the air is full of love and precognition and imagination. get out there in your hot air balloon and watch the world turn on its axis, holding its breath

Antiquated Brindleton

An 1890s Decades Challenge Save File

This save has been almost a year in the making, but it's finally here! It includes a completely rebuilt Brindleton Bay inspired by historic New England towns and set in the 1890s. This save uses a light amount of historical cc and most of the packs.

Eight new residential lots

Seven new community lots

Six new households

Builds and households are all located in Brindleton Bay. The world is intended to be historically accurate to about 1890, though some liberties for functionality have been taken.

Builds in other worlds have been deleted. The necessary buildings, like dorms, active career lots, and the high school, have all been left in place.

Townies have been evicted, but not deleted, as I prefer EA townies to fully randomized townies.

If you’d like more period appropriate townies to add, the lovely @jewishsimming has some great historical ones to download and @cowplant-snacks has an amazing tutorial on how to manage your townies with MCCC.

REQUIREMENTS: I have all the packs except Batuu and some of the kits. I didn’t limit myself when building. I don’t have everything listed out here, but I will be uploading all the lots and households to my gallery, so if you’d like to know specific pack usage you’ll be able to check there. If you load in and things are replaced or missing and you think it looks obvious feel free to message me, I’m always happy to try to help you find something else that fits! This save includes historical CC, some is included in my download in folders and some you will need to download from the creators directly. The CC required is listed and linked below, you need to download these linked pieces in ADDITION to the included cc folders.

DOWNLOAD: There are five zipped folders to download, four of which contain included cc, and one which includes the save itself.

Download the "AB_SaveFile" folder, unzip it and simply move the file inside to your saves folder inside your Sims 4 folder (where your mods folder is located).

The included cc is in four folders (to allow for easier upload/download) for build, buy, clothing, and hair. Simply download the folders, unzip them, and place them in your mods folder.

After this you should be good to load up your game and get playing, let me know if you run into any issues, I'm happy to try to troubleshoot. I can only imagine how things are going now, as he huddles in his last little box of dirt, sailing back to hide in the Carpathians again. He is sincerely debating just going to the first restaurant on land and dying by garlic bread to avoid the welcome waiting for him at the castle.

• Woman's Corset and Shoulder Braces.

Date: 1890's

Designer/Maker: Probably Made by Williamson Corset and Brace Co., Saint Louis

Medium: Black and off-white cotton sateen, brown cotton lace, brown cotton twill, yellow silk thread, black and brown cotton/elastic.

The first thing that struck me about this 1905 gown was the black piping. This, my friends, is why velvet is one of the coolest materials known to mankind. Because of all the little fibers (making velvet is kind of like making a carpet) it soaks up light. So you get this deep, saturated black you'd not get otherwise. Plus, it's silk, so it would shimmer in the right light, too. The physics of velvet is so lovely.

Secondly, this dress just screams 1905. From the 1890s to the 1920s, fashion moved FAST. What we see here is the last gasp of that S shape corset as we head toward reformation dresses and the looser look of the 1920s. Though the lace is definitely a bit stained from its age, it's not hard to imagine this dress when it was shiny and new. The slight train and the blocking of lace and pattern just make this so whimsical. Not to mention those 18th century inspired sleeves! I think she's just a darling.
