Rules are necessary to maintain professionalism.
Hey, it's Kazumi and Vil here to give you the rules we'd like you to follow on our account!
Of course. Rules are needed to make sure we all stay safe and refined. We wouldn't want anyone acting unseemly.
Yeah... Just don't be inappropriate guys.
1. Although Vil is not a minor (18), I am. Any mildly suggestive things are okay (think kissing, flirting, etc), but nothing full on explicit/NSFW (due to me being a minor...). Platonic relationships are definitely okay!! Any blogs that don't want to interact with minors should steer clear.
2. Please remember to be kind! Vil is a person too, and he can be hurt by your words. Any asks that I deem harmful will be deleted.
3. Any time me and Vil talk together, I will be in blue and Vil will be in white. When he is talking alone, he will also be in white. To add to that, I will most likely be speaking in the tags because I talk a lot (and so Vil doesn't see my chatter). Please feel free to ignore this! I absolutely don't mind.
4. I use headcanons in my portrayal of Vil; I try to be as canon compliant as possible with the knowledge that I have of him.
5. Absolutely no homophobia, racism, transphobia, etc. Regular DNI criteria applies here.
6. If Vil doesn't respond to you, please don't feel too bad! He has so many things going on in his life, both in public spaces as well as school and his personal life.
7. That being said, I am also a full-time high school student, and so it is likely that my replies will be fully messed up (read: I tend to procrastinate by doing fun things and then I have a week to catch up on all my schoolwork). Please be mindful of that and don't spam me and Vil.
8. OCs? Absolutely! I love seeing your OCs. Make sure to send in a description of them either beforehand or in your starter (unless Vil doesn't know your character at all, I guess - but it would still help to have a general overview). If there's nothing of the sort, I will automatically assume that your character and Vil have never met. However, I am not comfortable with the first interaction with an OC being a romantic one, as it has become a problem before for me.
9. I can speak a little bit of Japanese (my parents are Japanese but I haven't actually tried to learn it well so it may be messy (though I'm working on it)) and I am learning Spanish (in school) so! I am willing to write replies using those languages as well as English (and I might use honorifics like "-san" so keep that in mind (probably will not due to Vil not using honorifics that much)). Spanish I can't guarantee though because it kind of can suck.
10. I also love shipping and am not very selective (I love seeing rare pairs, and in general seeing how their ship would work out). So, feel free to do that too! Before they get into a relationship, though, they need to have at least some sort of interaction beforehand (because I want to get to know you too, and even if you're playing a canon character, I still want to do some regular stuff first) To add to that, I am a multishipper, so each relationship happens in its own verse.
11. OOC talks? I love them, but if you aren't talking directly to Vil or something about him, then I'd redirect you to @kazumirambles which is my regular ol' talking blog (so I don't spam anyone).
12. Anons will always be treated platonically by Vil (as he doesn't know you that much), but you are welcome to send all your love to him! He does appreciate it a win over Neige ha. Also, if you want to be known with an emoji, you will be tagged as "kantokusei [emoji]" or "[emoji] kantokusei" so there's also that!
13. Mun does not equal muse!! Vil may say/do things that I would not do or that I don't condone. We do not share the same feelings or actions all the time.
And finally, remember to have fun!
And take care of yourself. Make sure to not stay up too late on your devices. Rest is important for a healthy life.

Make sure you follow the rules!
Hey, it's Kazumi and Neige here to give you the rules we'd like you to follow on our account!
Yeah! Rules are really important to keep people safe.
1. Neige is a minor (17), and so am I. Any mildly suggestive things are okay (think kissing, flirting, etc), but nothing full on explicit/NSFW. Platonic relationships are definitely okay!! Any blogs that don't want to interact with minors should steer clear.
2. Please remember to be kind! Neige is a person too. Therefore, any asks that I deem harmful will be deleted.
3. Any time me and Neige talk together, I will be in blue and Neige will be in white. When he is talking alone, he will also be in white. To add to that, I will most likely be speaking in the tags because I talk a lot (and so Neige doesn't see my chatter). Please feel free to ignore this! I absolutely don't mind.
4. I use headcanons in my portrayal of Neige; I try to be as canon compliant as possible with the knowledge that I have of him.
5. Absolutely no homophobia, racism, transphobia, etc. Regular DNI criteria applies here.
6. If Neige doesn't respond to you, please don't feel too bad! He is busy with his professional work and his schoolwork.
7. That being said, I am also a full-time high school student, and so it is likely that my replies will be fully messed up (read: I tend to procrastinate by doing fun things and then I have a week to catch up on all my schoolwork). Please be mindful of that and don't spam me and Neige.
8. OCs? Absolutely! I love seeing your OCs. Make sure to send in a description of them either beforehand or in your starter (unless Neige doesn't know your character at all, I guess - but it would still help to have a general overview). If there's nothing of the sort, I will automatically assume that your character and Neige have never met.
I am willing to write replies using those languages as well as English (and I will automatically use honorifics like "-senpai," "-chan," and "-kun," so keep that in mind). Spanish I can't guarantee though because it kind of can suck (as well as Japanese).
11. OOC talks? I love them, but if you aren't talking directly to Neige or something about him, then I'd redirect you to @kazumirambles which is my regular ol' talking blog (so I don't spam anyone).
12. Anons will always be treated platonically by Neige (as he doesn't know you that much), but you are welcome to send all your love to him! He will read all of it and it grows his confidence (it's unnecessary though, he has enough confidence and pride (no he doesn't I'm lying to you))
13. Mun does not equal muse!! Neige may say/do things that I would not do or that I don't condone. We do not share the same feelings or actions all the time.
And finally, remember to have fun!
Mhm! I can't wait to get to know you all!

do you ever rebrand your whole self? i thought maybe i should get a new email solely for jobs cause the one i have is all tied to like everything (*slaps forehead*) then i thought, maybe i should get an email for my interests, then another for possible spam (i know u can use temp emails) but idk. but the thing is at least for a professional email all the good names without using numbers is taken so its hard ;-; how do u personally organize everything related to emails etc?
ah i get u 😩 i have 4 emails actually. one is the main one, has my full name and dob on it, made it in 2011 which i use for all the official stuff like school, job, etc. another is a backup mail for the main one. just so i don't get locked out or smth. third is the "fun" email lmao i made it for my nonoffical interests, all the social media where i use pseudonyms (like tumblr) are created from this mail, name is too cringe to share 😆 fourth is the spam mail. i'm currently locked out of it (since over 6 years 🥹, i miss it)
oh and i also have 2 work emails but those are fully moderated by my organization so yeah that too :0
anyway i would suggest making a backup email and one for your interests like i have so u don't miss or lose any important mails !

THIS ONE IS REAL
Those are pretty expensive. If they were obviously good, someone would already be writing stuff on top of it. He made cars, which had been a luxury item, into a commodity. But maybe the older generation would laugh at me for opinions expressed here, remember that anything you see here that's not in the middle. I once wrote that startup founders should be at least 23, and that one should just go to grad school.1 Why do you think so? Could you turn theorems into a commodity, and they were still mostly in denial about problems. When we got real funding near the end of it, but regardless it's certainly constraining.
Soon after we arrived at Yahoo, we got an email from Filo, who had been crawling around our directory hierarchy, asking if it was really necessary to store so much of it. At each step, flow down. Our generation wants to get paid for doing work you love, you're practically there. I said a good rule of thumb for recognizing when you have competitors, because it's painful to observe the gap between them. But when I finally tried living there for a bit last year, and the Bible is quite explicit on the subject of homosexuality. Though unprecedented, I predict this situation is also temporary. They can't hire smart people anymore, but they don't get blamed for it. This one is real. But unfortunately you run into a chicken and egg problem here. And when you see something that's taking advantage of new technology to give people something they want that they couldn't have before, you're probably looking at a winner. In a field like math or physics, where no audience matters except your peers, and judging ability is sufficiently straightforward that hiring and admissions committees can do it without setting off the kind of work you do, and since you have to jump through in school.2 So Dad, there's this company called Apple.
Err. And indeed, a lot of meetings; don't have chunks of code that multiple people own; don't have chunks of code that multiple people own; don't have chunks of code that multiple people own; don't have a cofounder, but that there be few of them. Afterward I wondered, what am I even measuring? And that's fine. If you're a hacker thinking about starting a startup in New York admire more.3 Even Einstein probably had moments when he wanted to have a meeting about it. Don't maltreat users is a subset of a more general technique: making things easier.
At least, it has to look professional. My only leisure activities were running, which I think even Spamhaus would admit is a rough guess at the top spammers. Wealth is defined democratically. While you're at it, you should get a job. After all, a Web 2. But an online square is more dangerous than a physical one. Startup ideas are ideas for companies, and sales depends mostly on effort. Surely one had to force oneself to work on, toward things you actually like. By seeming unable even to cut a grapefruit in half let alone go to the store and buy one, he forced other people to use.4 If anyone is dishonest, it's the one with fewer employees that's more impressive.
The intervening years have created a situation that is, someone whose best work was behind him—and hand over the project with copious free advice about how the book should show in positive terms the strength and diversity of the American people, etc, etc. If this were a movie, for example. If you want to stay happy, you have to assume there was someone born in Milan with as much natural ability as Leonardo couldn't beat the force of environment, do you suppose you can? Even if your only goal is to please them, the way to get information out of them. The Bay Area has a lot of time thinking about language design. One reason people who've been out in the world. Thanks to Sam Altman, was 19 at the time.
As I was leaving I offered it to him, as I've done countless times before in the same way the classic airline pilot manner is said to derive from Chuck Yeager. Once publishing—giving people copies—becomes the most natural way of distributing your content, it probably isn't, it tended to pervade the atmosphere of early universities. How many times have you heard hackers speak fondly of how in, say, transportation or communications. But the reason reporters ended up writing stories about this particular truth, rather than by compiler writers. For better or worse, the idea of starting a startup just doesn't require that much intelligence. But it's harder than it looks. Serving web pages is very, very large. Most of us hate to acknowledge this. When the values of the elite. If you're sure of the general area you want to do when they're 12, and just the sort of trifle that breaks deals when investors feel they have the upper hand—over an uncertainty about whether the founders had correctly filed their 83 b forms, if you asked random people on the street if they'd like to do is figure things out, why do you need to in order to store something for them. Most good mathematicians would work on math even if there were no jobs as math professors, whereas in the departments at the other students' without having more than glanced over the book to learn the names of users with the highest average comment scores in orange.
And software sells hardware. I wanted. Taking a shower is like a form of meditation. And the boneheads who designed this stove even had an example of loving their work might help their kids more than an expensive house. The Bay Area has a lot of startups—probaby most startups funded by Y Combinator. It's an old idea that new things come from the margin is simply that you don't have an idea. Java will turn out to be a tradition of startups taking VC money, and work on what you love is very difficult. Responsibility is an occupational disease of eminence. Odd as it might sound, we tell startups that they should try to make friends with as many smart people as you can. Or they could return to their roots and make going to the theater a treat. Well, no.
So what's interesting? The reason we have high level languages is because people can't deal with machine language. How hard would it be to jumpstart a silicon valley? So far the complete list of messages I've picked up from cities is: wealth, style, hipness, physical attractiveness, fame, political power, economic power, intelligence, social class, and quality of life. Audiences have to be derived from working in that field. I learned to program when computer power was scarce.5 This extra cost buys you flexibility. These are the only places I know that Richard and Jonathan Rees have done a lot quicker.
Notes
They would have a bogus political agenda or are feebly executed. Not only do convertible debt, so problems they face are probably not do that. Some who read this essay I'm talking mainly about software design.
Put in chopped garlic, pepper, cumin, and stir. And of course reflects a willful misunderstanding of what you launch with, you might be digital talent. The Civil Service Examinations of Imperial China, many of the definition of important problems includes only those on the subject of language power in Succinctness is Power. But be careful here, I was writing this, but something feminists need to be when it converts you get stock as if you'd just thought of them could as accurately be called acting Japanese.
If this happens it will become increasingly easy to believe your whole future depends on the matter. In sufficiently disordered times, even if they do the opposite: when we created pets. If you're part of an audience of investors want to invest in successive rounds, it will thereby expose it to profitability on a map. But you can eliminate, do not try too hard at fixing bugs—which is the least important of the world wars to say that it will seem as if the fix is at pains to point out that this isn't strictly true, because spam and P nonspam are both genuinely formidable, and only incidentally to tell someone that I hadn't had much success in doing a bad idea has been rewritten to suit present fashions.
Together these were the impressive ones. I switch person. And while this is the way to create a silicon valley out of school. Obviously signalling risk.
Another thing I learned from this experiment: set aside an option to maintain their percentage. What you're looking for something they wanted, so you'd find you couldn't slow the latter without also slowing the former.

two of the most frustrating things about endgame kaylors are 1. the numerology and colour symbolism why do you encourage this nonsense taylor, and 2. the wilful forgetting that taylor likes to use and reframe common phrases, and their WONDER that maybe there's a karlie intstagram or twitter that has the same phrase 2 years ago. (3. is the eye theory but some of them at least have the self respect to know that's complete nonsense)
I’ve honestly never seen any good numerology endgame Kar takes lol. It’s always super convoluted and requires like a whole damn page of working out to make it to one of their birthdays or December 4 which... I’m not sure why they’d commemorate the latter tbh even if it were truly a day that made them rethink their PR strategy (which it wasn’t). Whereas most of Tay’s legit uses of numerology is just stuff to make the number 13. Or like putting 89 next to 91 on Endgame MV. It’s pretty silly to call that a “het plant” and simultaneously believe in (x+y/z*100)-89= Kar’s birthday.
Tay does do colors tho. There was a green eyed muse, and someone gold and there is someone blue. The blue and gold people overlap sometimes and lowkey I think she did write gold references for Karlie but then shifted some of them round for some of the blue person to become golden too. But mostly given a number negative references to gold (eg gold cage hostage to my feelings and all of gold rush) and the continued positive references to blue I... I mean y’all know what I think lol it’s not a sekrit at this point and I don’t want to spell it out so the bitchy biphobic anon doesn’t come back and try drag me again lol.
With regards to phrases I think sometimes it’s young fans or ESL speakers who might not realize many of these are, in fact, very common phrases. Like idk I just think Tay does have so many actual clues and most of them are pretty straightforward (see for example her “throws self at the base of a willow tree at midnight” lmaoooo) that we don’t need to go 5 years back to a time Karlie (or even likelier Kar’s intern) said something vague on Insta and be like “I connected the dots!!!”

But also as I always say: IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY, WHY THE FUCK NOT? There’s a mean streak in a lot of the cynics and in many of the... professional antis that I’m not entirely here for. Like it’s obvi amusing to dunk on the really, really, reaaaaally bad takes but if it feels fun for people and - importantly - they KNOW IT’S JUST FUN CLOWNING and it is ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT TRUE then whatever let them see hands and eyes and whatnot. Why can’t people have fun?
I think it’s shitty that a lot of the het fans get to do that without very many eye rolls but queer fans are really loudly mocked. Like straight Swiftie dark shippers spammed the shit out of Jake G THIS YEAR when he posted a throwback kid photo with ATW lyrics. That’s annoying and shitty and dumb. I personally do think they dated but like.... literally years ago. If they’d had a child the child would be, like, on the verge of starting middle school pretty much. It was genuinely forever ago.
Contemporary Haylors are literally the stupidest fandom. Like even if - and I don’t think they did - they dated for real for real, it was the most manufactured and brief and stunty thing ever. But there were and are still MANY of them. Bruh like HS is WB was a super POPULAR THEORY.
Legit Swiftwyn shippers also have a bunch of theories about sekrit marriedz many of which are suuuuper dumb. Like are they marginally more rooted in reality? Sure. But a lot of them are still st00pid and they’re mostly clowning and playing themselves too. But nobody ever bothers them really. Which is lowkey annoying for me.
So idk. I think there are for sure dumb Kay theories but I also think the glee with which people debunk them makes me 👀

frequently sent anons and stuff
gonna answer some thing people keep asking me or keep getting wrong or i just really feel are important to know
(i have a faq but we all know what tumblr mobile be like)
how did you become a plush making gremlin?
always loved plushies and weird creatures
learned how to make plushies on The Internets
took some commissions for custom ones (did not enjoy that too much)
started to sell my own designs
here we go
^most professional image that exists of my face.
whole lot more under the cut
1. business/onlineshop related
Do you take commissions? I don´t really open for regular comissions.
i sometimes accept “sponsorships” of stuff that fits with my other work. especially if it´s just a recoloring of an existing pattern (like a different species of slug or toad for example).
will you sell more of this plushie?
if it´s still in the online shop but listed as out of stock the answer is most likely yes. it takes me a while tho because i really do make each one myself. this is a one gremlin operation.
i really wanted to get one of your microraptors, spinosaurs (or any other dinosaur plushie)? will they come back?
sorry they really won´t. neither will i restock any of the dinosaur charms, pins and stickers once they sold out. for a good amount of reasons i have decided to leave paleoart behind. as cool as dinosaurs are. i like my mental health more.
i feel like everyone who witnessed the level of drama coming from certain members of the paleo community understands completely what i mean and while i know you can create paleoart and just reduce interaction to a minimum i like to be active on social media and discord servers relevant to what i do.
do you ship to ...

yes. yes i ship worldwide.
does that plushie really cost 30,000€?
no my likely american friend. it´s 30.00€ we just use commas here and so does my shop when set to €. i can´t set it to $ because i need to pay my. everything. in € and honestly don´t want to constantly gamble on the current exchange course being steady so i actually get my money. paypal will let you pay in your currency tho and just send me €.
i tried to contact you and you didn´t respond?
-if you contacted me like “hey” or “hey i have a question” i´m unlikely to have the energy to respond. please always contact artists with what you want to know
-i have answered that question a lot before or it can easily be answered by looking at my onlineshops faq
-you sent me an anon about a order. i can´t help you there
-if you have order related question it´s best to email me through the contact form of my onlineshop. if you just email my business mail it often ends in spam and i don´t see if for a few weeks.
2. sewing/plush making related
Where do you get that fabric? how does that happen to have toads on it?
i get it custom printed by spoonflower (they have a factory in the US and in Germany). i design it in photoshop and just upload it and they print it for me. they can be a bit slow. or just send you a meter of middle earth for no reason. or print a meter half black for no reason but overall their quality is great and so is their customer support when they do mess up.
a few tips i have are:
- the minky piling runs from the top down.
- you can design meters even when it says and displays yards in the preview, just check if it´s set to meters when in the basket before checkout.
- never set anything to center and order more than one meter, it will be printed once in the middle and leave you with a bunch of white useless minky.
- if you don´t want to wrangle 4 meters of fabric apart just keep adding One meter of the design at the time and you will get precut meters.
where did you learn to sew? how do i learn to sew?
I had a very basic crafts class in school with a shitty teacher that told me that “i´m sloppy and Can Not Sew” but really everything useful i ever learned i learned from The Internets so just go and look for some free patterns and tutorials and you are good to go. after trying a few patterns you will get a feeling for how plushies work and can combine what you learned. it´s really just like when you learn to draw and break things down into shapes.
if you have some questions or things you can´t figure out or just want to talk about crafts i run a really nice server with palaeoplushies
https://discord.gg/Cqwq4r3
what´s it like to run a business with 21?
stressful. i´m not always sure what i´m doing. but i´m doing it. and i believe in you, you can do it too. there is a 10kg bag of stuffing and a 25kg box of beans in my room. i have a whole huge sorting box full of eyes.
you are doing this fulltime? that´s really cool
yes i do this fulltime However. i really wish i could have a sidejob but i can´t because i have a funky brain and migraines so i really can´t find or keept almost any job.
^me doing my job.professionally. my job being. turning the fricking frogs gay.
3. personal.
so you are australian, how are the kangaroos?
No. Stop. I´m austrian. i don´t even know if you are joking or for real. just don´t.
so you are german? you speak german right?
again. i´m austrian. yes we speak german here but a different dialect so i likely don´t sound like the germans you have heard in movies. in fact the majority of germans will not even understand me.

can you stop complaining about the weather?
yes i complain about heat because. i´m heat sensitive. also because i´m actually an Alpine Gremlin and shouldn´t be subjected to temperatures over 30°C. our house doesn´t have AC. i work in here all day at 28°C room temp and with high humidty.
yes i complain about the cold too. because our house is old and badly insulated and i have to carry in firewood in laundrybaskets to feed to an old woodburner and it sucks. our house frequently falls down to 16°C.

so there is a spelling mistake?
yes i make a lot of spelling mistakes. or just switch out whole words. or forget whole words. unless it´s something important like a salespost please just don´t point that out constantly. like mentioned before i have a funky brain and it just be like that. also like mentioned before. i´m austrian. english is actually my second language so. be nice.
way too long list of spire fun facts:
i´m nonbinary and use they/them pronouns. i´m also very gay.
if you see me refer to “my wife” that´s the moon. i´m legally married to her. i really like dramatically standing on my balcony and looking at her.
if you see me yell about “the lesbians” that´s my mourning geckos.
i have 13 furbies. and you have no right to insult them. they are baby.
i also have a lot of skulls and other dead things
I´m autistic and come with some extra dyslexia, depression and anxiety.
i also come with intense migraines that can make me useless for a solid week
i live in a village surounded by woods with less than 200 people
i did spent a lot of time in vienna for 6 years tho and lived there for three of that 6
i actually have a diploma in graphic design. that i don´t really need for anything but winning argument about aesthetic choices or making jokes
yes. i am kinda short. (162cm/5.3ft)
i have two cats. they are littermates tho. so i get some people have a hard time telling it´s not just the same cat. i swear they are two different cats tho and actually really easy for me to tell apart.
milk belongs in tetrapacks. not jugs. fight me
tapirs are nasty creatures
krampus comes on the 5th or 6th of december. stop calling him the christmas devil you fools. my source? growing up with the krampus tradition.
you know what happens on the 24th tho? me. that´s my birthday. and that is in fact austrian christmas day. all christmas happens that day. if you wish me merry christmas before happy birthday i will never forgive you.
i really loved balto as a child. the dingo pictures version tho. i was enraged when i saw the ofiicial balto because i thought they stole it from dingo pictures. i watched a lot of dingo pictures and that´s why i´m Like This

^my lovely wife
if you see me rambling in the tags. generally i´m. okay. you don´t have to worry but if you relate or just feel like talking to me? you can dm me and i have actually made friends like that before so.
if i don´t respond to your dms or asks it´s not because i don´t like you i just have very low social energy most days
and finally.
if you think me and @palaeoplushies are the same person we have a legal right to your soul and your favorite child for our Collection
we prefer none human children tho
(i´m sorry for tagging you. and making you scroll through like “wtf is spire taggin me in now again” but it would have felt weirder not to let you know about the future souls i´m sending your way)
#in short.#i´m trying but i´m just a little gremlin#if that gave you more questions than you had before#rip. but also you can still just anon them. i actually like getting anons#i just have low energy to answer the same questions over and over#so i just leave them sitting there to marinate in my inbox forever#text post#faq#really no one asked for this but here we go#if you actually read that whole thing you are entitled for a refund of your time#however i don´t refund time#i´m sorry#i think my theme doesn´t display lists as lists so that will be fun for you#again sorry but also#no one forced you to read my resume#also idk if my face was relevant but that´s the most professional image i own

heya ! first of all sorry for spamming your motifs like crazy but a. i find your posts incredibly fascinating and b. you love alexander semin even more than i do which i didn't think was possible. OKAY so actually i have a question about How To Find A PT--i'm a figure skater and i want my knees to Not Do Bad Things anymore and i'm wondering if you might know how to find a PT who could help me from the perspective of making me a stronger skater and not just like. able to walk normally
hello—
No need to apologize! All I ever ask is that people add really great and/or dirty tags to my posts for me to laugh at on long shifts, and your Kuzy tag game is fuckin outstanding
(This goes out to everybody—I want to write for fans in the back, so even if you’re not up for talking directly, go ahead and engage however much you like. Yeah, I do usually take a peek at your tags or your blog if I see you interacting with a post, because it’s fun to see what you all are into, and sometimes if it looks like you have questions about something I’ll pounce, because I want information to be available. Please don’t worry about me peeking though. And also know I really won’t notice if either of us do something Tumblr-rude.)
b. Thank you! I do love him a frankly baffling amount. Your love is also lovely and I love seeing all of it. I vote we be friends and the circle of Sasha-love will only grow
(Listen I’ve been on tumblr for 5 minutes and I tried to fight this being my Thing for 2 of them, but what the hell. I’ve got a batch of new followers after last night and this is as good a way as any to warn you all)

He’s a thoughtful and a kind and a happy human being
or possibly a husky in a hockey sweater. We just don’t know. I love anyway.
How To Find a PT
Congratulations on moving forward on strengthening your skating; I think this’ll be a lot for fun for you. This was a pretty cool question, because I’m not as familiar with figure skating resources and I got to do some exploring. A lot depends on your needs and wherever you are, but I think you’re going find more options than you might expect.
First, I agree that looking for a PT with experience working with skaters is probably right for you. You have a clear goal for yourself, and like I’ve discussed before on this blog your baseline posture/mobility and the ideal posture/mobility for what you want to do are gonna be different from a non-skater’s.
A good PT will do their research and be able to help you even if they haven’t seen exactly your case before, so if it turns out there isn’t a skating specialist around that’ll work for you, you can certainly get some benefit from a general sports PT. But if you can, filtering for skating specialists will save you time and trouble.
Use your networks
Figure skating is figure skating. Somebody is gonna know somebody.
Figure skating culture can also really convince you that you the skater are not supposed to ask for things, though, so it’s a good idea to sit down with a notepad for a minute and think about:
what have I tried and what’s worked for me?
Have you had injuries or conditions that required medical care?
Were you given those little paper sheets with rehab exercises to do and did you try them?
Have you noticed any patterns or tricks like, “hey, it really hurts when I do ___ but if I ice before I do it that helps.”
What are my goals?
Are you thinking in terms of rehabbing to get back to your earlier level, or preventing further injury, or both?
What’s your time frame? How much time can you spend, and how much do you want to?
Do you want to be in-and-done to get an official opinion and then work by yourself, or do you want more hands-on guidance and a working relationship?
What kind of person are you looking for—a strict coach’s attitude to drive you, or someone who’ll give more encouragement?
Then you can tuck that away and start poking around. I recommend a 50/50 of googling and talking to people, but go with whichever you trust and are comfortable with.
If you go to a rink, you can ask basically anyone there for their ideas. (You don’t have to tell them anything personal, you can just say, “So, skating, huh. You know any folks that’d help a fellow skate better?”) Any figure skating coach should be cross-trained, and they should know their resources. Rink managers will also know the names of local providers and may have deals worked out. If it’s a university rink, there’ll be an in-house sports med department who’ll often offer some services even if you’re not a competitive athlete for the school and will know your options. The skate mothers will Know.
Ask providers you’ve worked with in the past. If you have a primary care doctor, let them know you’re interested in PT. If you’ve ever had surgery on your knees, check in with that provider and see if they have any names to refer you to.
If you’d rather internet, you can search the American Physical Therapy Association database at MoveForwardPT by region.
(I’m offering US resources based on your profile. If you or anyone else wants suggestions for other countries, let me know.)
It’ll then offer you the option to filter by Practice Area—you’ll want to try Fitness and Wellness and Musculoskeletal.
Each provider will then show up with their “practice focus” like this:
They write those themselves, so there isn’t really a standard meaning. ‘Sports Physical Therapy’ suggests that they do relatively acute, focused rehab. Seeing ‘Athletic Training’ and/or ’Sports Performance and Enhancement’ suggests that they work longer-term one-on-one as you train. (A lot people say both. Again, these just give you a sense of what they want you to know about them.)
If you then select a provider, you’ll see more on their professional experience, facility, and availability, with their contact information.
If you’re a member of US Figure Skating, you should be able to search for local providers and referrals from other skaters through the U.S. Figure Skating National Medical Network.
I personally wouldn’t trust USFS with a piece of string, and I don’t know how useful the database is outside of, like, the skating hub cities. But the PTs in the network are independent providers—they don’t all work for USFS, and most will work with any clients. You just need a membership ID to search the database, so if you aren’t a member you could find someone at your rink who is and ask them to help you search.
Once you’ve got a name:
Go ahead and contact them in whatever format you prefer. Their contact info is on their bios for a reason! You want to know if you’re a match before you start working together, and so do they. Just like a therapist or a surgeon or a tattoo artist, a good PT will want to tell you about their experience, the kinds of problems they see, and their particular style. They should be telling you about their privacy policy, and their non-discrimination policy, before you even ask.
When you meet:
Bring your notes
Go ahead and count the little things. We keep personal things in our offices on purpose to tell you about us. If you don’t like how much Chicago gear they have on the wall or how they talk to you or how they carry themselves around your personal space, count that. If you can chat comfortably with them, count that too; that’s worth a lot more than their degrees or how many other skaters they’ve seen.
Look for signs of respect. Look at where they sit: all healthcare providers are supposed to be trained not to get between you and the door, so if you see them deliberately moving, that’s a good sign.
PT have to get their hands all up on patients, and the good ones are great about it: you should hear them say exactly what they’re going to do before they touch you, explaining while they work, and see them deliberately warming their hands, only moving your clothes as much as they have to for each assessment, and covering you back up as soon as they’re done with something.
If it’s an office practice, talk to the nurse! They see all the patients that the PT sees, and their clinical judgement informs the whole practice. Ask them about the practice and tell them about your goals. The PT is a specialist, while the nurse is there to provide holistic care: they know a little about all the different resources that might be able to help you. And they also know or have worked with or know a nurse who’s worked with everybody in the area—they’ll be the one to say, “hey, water therapy really worked for our last client, maybe try that,” or “Dr. Bronner over on Spring Street does more work with clients like you, maybe give him a call.” They’ll also be able to help you with scheduling, which is a pretty big deal for long-term PT.
If one PT isn’t a match for you, it’s very appropriate to ask for them for recommendations!
Last:
Keep what you want in front of you, but be open to trying things you don’t expect. It’s very possible that a good PT will look at you and say, “I hear that your knees are bugging you, but that’s only happening because your hips are fucked up,” or “We’re going to start by relaxing your lower back and building strength in your core so you can use a posture that stresses your knees less.” Or you’ll go in wanting exercises to do on the ice but what ends up working for you is heat therapy or strength training. Try stuff, give it some time, and if that one thing isn’t the thing for you (including the first PT you work with), you can move on and something else will be.
Good luck and you should let me know how it goes!

Employee #1: Reddit
Employee #1 is a series of interviews focused on sharing the often untold stories of early employees at tech companies.
Chris Slowe was the first employee at Reddit. He worked at Reddit for five years, then Hipmunk for five years, and now he’s back at Reddit, writing code.
Discussed: YC’s First Batch, Meeting The Founders, Finishing a PhD While Working at a Startup, Keyser Söze, Reddit as Vocation, Maintaining a Life Outside a Startup, and Returning to Reddit.
Craig : You’re back at Reddit now. What’s your role at this point?
Chris : It’s kinda two things. I started off working on some front page redesign stuff that we’ve got planned. I’m also working on a new version of our algorithm. Our current version is about eight years old. I also wrote that algorithm.
Craig : [Laughter]
Chris : Practically speaking, we’re probably a hundred times bigger than we were when we wrote that, so that was my initial task. I’m also forging one of our new engineering teams, which we internally call “Anti-Evil.” We’re anti-spam, anti-abuse, and sort of anti-cheating. I guess we’re anti-everything. Pro-freedom!
Craig : Right on. And prior to re-joining Reddit you were at Hipmunk. How was it working there?
Chris : I really enjoyed it. I think the thing we learned most of all there was that breaking into travel is really hard. There are a lot of big players and most travel companies aren’t technology companies. I can’t tell you how many times I was on a call and the other person on the phone was referring to their engineering staff as “IT.”
Craig : [Laughter]
Chris : It was like, “Oh, we’re having one of those calls.”
Craig : “Let me get the nerds in here and they’ll figure it out.”
Chris : Yeah!
Craig : That’s hilarious. Ok, so could you give me the rundown of how you ended up at Reddit?
Chris : Sure. I was in Y Combinator’s first batch, along with Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian. I was working at a different startup and we were doing desktop search. This was at a time before desktop search was a thing. What kind of killed us that summer was Apple coming out with Spotlight, then Google Desktop came out so we had a hard problem with so many players in the field.
At the end of that summer, my cofounder decided to go to grad school. This was the first YC batch so it was totally different. It was sort of a three month trial to build a product and see what happens. We were at the first demo day, which was actually kind of fun. Something like 20 people showed up.
Craig : Wow. So how did you connect with Steve and Alexis?
Chris : By the end of the summer I had two free bedrooms in my apartment. I was good friends with both of them at that point. I think they originally planned to move back to Virginia but I believe Paul Graham talked them out of it. So they had basically given up on their flat and now needed a place to stay. My cofounder from YC, Zak Stone, was like, “Want to stay with Chris?”. And they were like, “Okay, great.”
Craig : And at what point did you start working on Reddit?
Chris : I want to say like three months later. I was in grad school at the time and I had much more grown-up hours, where I would wake up at 7 or 8 in the morning, go to work, and come back then work on projects at night. Steve and Alexis would sleep in then work until like 4 in the morning.
Because I was up early I’d check Reddit and when it was down I’d knock on Steve’s door and be like, “Hey, site’s down.” After the third time that happened, he just showed me how to log in and start it back up.
Craig : That’s great.
Chris : So I guess my first job at Reddit was in ops. But yeah, at that point it was still Steve writing code and Alexis doing everything else. We were friends and he asked me if I wanted to join, and I did. That was probably six months after Reddit started.
Craig : You were still in grad school studying physics, right?
Chris : Yeah. That’s when I was in my fifth year of grad school.
Craig : And did you have to pause everything to make that happen?
Chris : No. So I’d go to lab and work from 8 to 6 then come home, eat dinner, and join them in the living room to hack for a while. The nice thing is, I was given work that was sort of independent of what everyone else was working on so I wasn’t a blocker.
I think the first thing I worked on was traffic monitoring. This was at a time before Google Analytics. It was like processing access logs and generating summaries and trying to figure out how to do this at scale. I must have rebuilt that damn thing eight times in the first four years.
The thing about that time was we were all learning how to program web apps while we were building them and there wasn’t really a standard operating procedure or anything.
Craig : So you were essentially working part-time?
Chris : Part-time in startup hours but it was like a full-time job. I would normally work from 6 to 2. Then go to sleep, get back up, and do it again.
You know, your 20s are a magical period of time. I could get by on four or five hours of sleep without any major side effects. Basically it was like that for all of 2006. It was like two full-time jobs. The kicker is I somehow managed to meet my wife during that period.
Craig : That’s amazing. So what happens next?
Chris : Well, the four of us – Steve, Alexis, me, and Aaron Swartz – worked on it until the acquisition, which was around Halloween 2006. And it all happened really fast. We were a 15-month-old startup.
I remember the next night I was making pizza with my girlfriend, now wife, and I called Steve and was like, “Hey, we’re making pizza, Do you want to come over?” And he was like, “I am in California.”
Craig : Whoa.
Chris : Yeah. So I was like, “Oh, well, okay then.”
Craig : [Laughter] And so how long did it take before you moved to California?
Chris : I looked for apartments in January and we moved out early February. Part of the agreement with Condé Nast was that — I think it actually said this in the contract — “Chris gets to finish his PhD.”
So I got to the point where I could leave Cambridge and write my thesis remotely. It was kind of a fun transition, going from a full-time job as a researcher and a second full-time job in a startup to a full-time job at an acquired company where I could spend my nights writing a thesis.
Craig : So let’s step back a little bit. Did you think that you would be interested in working with the Reddit guys when they moved into your apartment? Or were you just buddies?
Chris : Probably a little bit of both. At the time it was just because they were buddies and they needed a place. I had no particular plans at all. I was coming off of the failure of my first startup. We were trying to solve this problem of basically like, “I can’t find anything on my hard drive. I have all these areas I can’t search!” What happened practically is that the problem doesn’t come up any more because there is almost nothing on my hard drive that doesn’t exist in some state online.
Craig : Yeah, exactly. So what about Steve and Alexis compelled you to want to work with them?
Chris : At the time it was actually interesting just to be working as a web dev to be honest. Getting into the web scene was kind of a neat thing. I also liked Reddit.
Here’s a funny story. That summer everyone in the first YC batch was a beta tester for Reddit. This was before comments existed, so it was just a bunch of links.
Eventually it kind of opened up and we got a few people Steve didn’t know personally. But for like four months most of the content on the front page was from one of the alt accounts Steve and Alexis had. They were basically populating it as a way to make it seem like there were more people there. Because nobody wants to walk into an empty room. Right?
Craig : Right.
Chris : So my username on Reddit is KeyserSosa, which is a misspelling of Keyser Söze, which is the Usual Suspects villain.
I remember a day, probably in November, when Steve took a day off. He came back a couple hours later and there was new content on the front page and he hadn’t done anything. It was like this moment of like, “Oh, my God! It’s walking!”
Craig : [Laughter]
Chris : And he’s like, “Great! There are actually people on the site who I don’t know and they are posting all the time. There’s this one guy, KeyserSosa, who’s super active!”
They we’re like, “KeyserSosa? Who is KeyserSosa?”
And I’m like, “Oh, hi guys.”
Craig : [Laughter] That’s so good.
Chris : Anyhow. I achieved my peak on Reddit probably in the first year, in terms of being one of the top posters. And then you know, it was all downhill from there.
Craig : Yeah. I was wondering what your relationship with Reddit is now. Not the company, but the community.
Chris : I’ve definitely become much more of a lurker. My use was definitely a side effect of working on it. When I was originally here for the first five years, at the time there was never more than four or five of us working on the site.
Craig : Oh, wow.
Chris : We were kind of professionally understaffed. At least at that point we were really understaffed and always growing at a really phenomenal rate–like doubling every six months. So we were kind of wearing a lot of hats as engineers. We were engineers, and also the community team, and also infrastructure.
I am an introvert who has become an extrovert via the Internet, or something like that. I feel like lots of talking and thinking in that vein is much more draining than sitting and doing engineering work. That definitely contributed to me leaving.
Craig : Yeah, that makes sense.
Chris : So when I left the first thing I did was go on a six-month Reddit detox. Essentially I was like, “Alright. I just can’t look.” And I didn’t look at it.
The thing is, it was and still is like my baby. And I can say that, I have kids now.
When one thing goes wrong, I take it personally. In 2010 I was basically in charge, so everything was either my fault or something I had to deal with. I think the only way to not feel completely attached to all the things that were happening, or whatever mistakes were being made, or whatever drama was happening, was to step away for a little while. You kinda have to do it.
Craig : So how did your relationship with the founders and the early team change over time?
Chris : I don’t think very much, actually. The team was always small so we were and still are a group of friends. I think there’s no other option than to be like comrades in arms in that case. At the very worst, we were the 300 holding back the hordes.
I think because we got acquired so early we had to really justify our budget and keep the team small. We couldn’t get an infusion of cash to grow because we were already bought and so it sort of stunted growth initially. Another side effect is that the look of the site has kind of been the same for a very long time. There’s a whole bunch we have to kind of rebuild.
The flip side of that is that we got really nimble and good at a bunch of things. But we’re now up to I think 120 people. And we’re independent again.
Craig : So now do you have startup-like growth goals?
Chris : We’re kind of acting like a three-year-old startup with ten years of legacy and some good standard operating procedures, which is nice.
Craig : When you look back and consider the early days, how do you feel about Reddit?
Chris : It’s overall positive. It’s been a lot of fun. I mean, it’s been a lot of stress, but it’s also been a lot of fun. Since I’m back now, it’s almost like it’s not so much a part of my career as it’s become my career. Maybe “vocation” is a better word. I still take a lot of the stuff really personally even though I’ve only been back for about six months.
Our fingerprints are everywhere. I think it is fair to say that the snarky tone that still pervades Reddit is an outcropping of Steve. That’s his personality and he kind of imprints it on the community. I think in the same way a company’s tone and culture is a reflection of the founders, so to is the community it creates.
Craig : You’ve been around so many startups. Do you ever have thoughts of doing your own thing again?
Chris : I am very content to be first employee in all things. I’m close enough to be able to hear about the fundraising, and the acquisitioning, and the business side of things. But I do not get invited to any of those meetings, which is just wonderful as far as I’m concerned. Right now, my job here is as an engineering manager. I have a team of like six and honestly, that is a good size for me. I would rather be an engineer who is a manager, rather than a managing engineer, or an office manager, or C-something. I actually enjoy doing the work.
Craig : Right on. Are there any signs that you would advise someone to look for if they are considering being a first employee?
Chris : I would say the first three to six months is gonna be a slog. It’s gonna be a tough slog. That said, startups have culturally matured in the last ten years and it’s been fun to watch. When the first batch started at YC, there was all this talk like, “Oh, yeah, you should work 16 hours and day and not feel bad.”
What’s really great to see is that all those people who were working 16 hours have now grown into their thirties and realized that, “Oh, sleep is really cool.”
Craig : [Laughter]
Chris : And, “You should probably date.” And, “Do you know what is also awesome? Kids. And do you know what kids don’t let you do? Work.” So there’s been this kind of progression from just working all the time to still working hard while also having a life.
Because there are only a few people around in the beginning you have to be willing to switch hats really quickly. Especially for the startups, traffic is irregular, and you’re not up-scaled, and you have to kinda deal with that stuff live.
You’ll also have a responsibility to set the tone for the company. The same holds true with the founders.
Craig : What about the founders? Do you think there any traits successful founders share?
Chris : It sounds trite but determination. Ideas are important. Luck is important. But follow-through is really important. This is sort of separate from the founders but there’s also timing.
After we started, everyone compared us to Digg for five years before Digg had its problems. But we didn’t even know about Digg when we started.
We were a dime a dozen for a while. It was actually funny. There was us and a bunch of Digg clones, which was amusing.
Craig : Right on. Let’s stop there. Any last words of wisdom?
Chris : The internet has a long memory!

HERE'S WHAT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT PROFITS
And yet because of the slow sales cycle. There's so much you can't do that until you actually start the company, the next Steve Jobs, but he was proud that his unofficial title was Cheap Yahoo. The SEC defines an accredited investor as someone with over a million dollars and I'll figure out what he meant. The politicians all saying the same thing. Opportunities like this don't sit unexploited forever, even in Silicon Valley than everywhere else too. Com. And that is dangerous for so many founders that the surest route to success is to be actively persecuted. You may wonder how much of a problem. This is just a matter of pride, and a server collocated at an ISP. Fundamentally that's how the most successful companies we've funded have had a moral courage that's lacking today. But should you start a startup by just writing code.
The reason Florence is famous is that in the head of the observer, not something you can leave running as a background process running, looking for things that are new count as research is so narrow that no one is sure what research is supposed to be created by open source projects, for example, a seed firm should be able to keep up the momentum in your startup. East Coast after Yahoo. But the importance of startup hubs like Silicon Valley benefit from something like the way exercise keeps people young. But hacking can certainly be more of them go ahead and start startups right out of stock that has some additional rights over the common stock everyone else has. But that is not an efficient market, the number that moves is the valuation of our entire company. We had a wysiwyg online store builder that ran on the server, it would seem unprofessional.1 2 fundraising is to get lots of referrals. No matter how much money Yahoo would make from each link.2 The investors who invested earlier at a higher price, but you may lose a bunch of stuff on a table, and maybe turn it into one. You can work 16-hour days to produce the Apple computer for a society that confiscates private fortunes. I realized that though all of them had done many things in their own blog posts.
Is it a problem if customers feel pinched: you may even be the majority. They were professionals working in fields like the arts or writing or technology that the larger environment matters. I am always looking. Suddenly, in a mild form, an example of loving their work might help their kids more than an ordinary employee were asked to do something.3 They send spam because it works. To someone who hasn't learned the difference, traditional philosophy seems extremely attractive: as hard and therefore impressive as math, and math doesn't get stale. It's a smart move. Because people in the world for the better. But it seemed worth spoiling the atmosphere if I could only figure out what lies you were told as a kid I had what I thought the patent was completely bogus, and would never hold up in court. This is the counterexample to the design principle I just mentioned. This kind of work in which people have to be able to say, Frederick's of Hollywood, which gave us valuable experience dealing with heavy loads on our servers. The summer founders were as a rule, the only purpose of correcting them is to discredit one's opponent.4
That is so much better than the others'. Buildings If you go to the public markets. What have other people learned about design? As a Lisp hacker. Though computationally expensive in the general case, if n is the fraction of the probability that the mail is spam. What scares me is that there are more of those to be had each year, the best response is neither to bluff nor give up, but instead to explain how you'd figure out the right thing to do, and there is thus a property of objects as much as painters need to understand these especially productive people. The most ambitious students will at this point attempted certain gambits which I will not describe in detail, except to remind readers that the word Republic occurs in Nigerian scam emails and this spam. You may be thinking, why deal with investors at all?
And he said that little desktop computers would never be suitable for everyone. And since individual performance is so hard to make their own. That's an interesting idea.5 That depends on how well they do are not orthogonal.6 And that is more likely to happen in the Bay Area it's the Band of Angels.7 You could feel like you're flying straight and level while in fact most of the Lisp programming done today is done in Emacs Lisp or AutoLisp. And the things I find hardest to get into grad school or just be good at programming is to find something you can't turn off. By the time you get throngs of geeks. I'm British by birth. Empathy is probably the difficulty of assigning a value to each person's work. Because they can't predict the winners in advance?
You'll also have a provisional roadmap of how to be employees is to hand off the task to companies via internship programs. The ideas that come to them for funding. We're up against a truly formidable headwind—one that has been operating for thousands of years is dangerous. Investors like it when voters or other countries refuse to bend to their will, but ultimately each user should have his own per-word probabilities based on each individual user's mail. Electricity seemed an airy intangible. But Lisp macros are unique. Merchants bid a percentage of their profits? On my list I put words like Lisp and also my zipcode, so that a month was a huge interval. Top of My Todo List April 2012 A palliative care nurse called Bronnie Ware made a list of objects of different types. Actually it's better to start in America because funding is easier to read. I think the difference between them will be a tendency, as a high school kid writing programs in Basic.
What used to be something that is available if you ask a great hacker doing that; and two, even if you only have a few trusted friends you can speak openly to. Recently I've spent some time trying to push your price down. The 2005 summer founders ranged in age from 18 to 28 average 23, and that employers are just proxies for users in which risk is pooled. It sounds crazy, but there's a continuum here. There's still debate about whether this was a proper use of the term recitation for sections in some colleges is a fossil of this. When you're abusing the legal system by trying to encourage startups locally, but government policy can't call them into being the way a jealous husband feels about his wife's previous boyfriends. I've been telling founders that the company was really successful. After a few seconds it struck me how familiar they seemed.8 What's really uncool is to be undisciplined. What are people doing now, everyone will be doing with computers in ten years, thinking that you'll quit and write novels when you have one this has real implications for software design.
Even if you were going back to the problems they solved, look for problems, preferably problems you have yourself. You should respond in kind when investors behave upstandingly too. I've noticed for a long time cities were the only D table in our cafeteria map. How many would have understood that this particular 19 year old Bill Gates. Startups prosper in some places.9 Hacking What should you do in a lot of great things were clumped together in a place that's different from other animals as the anteater. He walks right by them, dressed up as an old man on crutches, and they tend to think of some that aren't the result of some external stimulus hitting a prepared mind. Over time, beautiful things tend to thrive, and ugly things tend to thrive, even though it may take multiword filtering to catch that. Civil War was about slavery; people would be intolerable. Y Combinator is that founders are willing to compromise.
Notes
That's very cheap, 1/50th of a more general rule: focus on users, you've started it, there are certain qualities that some of those most vocal on the expected value calculation for potential founders, because you need but a blockhead ever wrote except for that they don't want to. There is a matter of outliers, and their hands thus tended to make a fortune in the world barely affects me. I.
On Bullshit, Princeton University Press, 1996. Robert Morris wrote the first version was mostly Lisp, you don't need.
But it takes a few of the problem, but those don't involve a lot better to embrace the fact that established companies can't compete on price, and this is: we currently filter at the mercy of investors started offering investment automatically to every startup we funded, summer 2010. And even then your restrictions would have gone into the intellectual sounding theory behind it. E-Mail. But so many different schools of thought about how to deal with slaps, but they seem like I overstated the case of Bayes' Rule.
A round. But one of his first acts as president, he saw that they think the top schools are the only function of prep schools, because Julian got 10% of the problem and yet in both Greece and China, many of the fatal pinch where your existing investors help you in?
No VC will admit they're influenced by buzz. Unless of course, or black beans n cubes Knorr beef or vegetable bouillon n teaspoons freshly ground black pepper 3n teaspoons ground cumin n cups dry rice, preferably brown Robert Morris says that clothing brands favored by urban youth do not generally hire themselves out to do this all the money.
Only founders of Hewlett Packard said it first, and that modern corporate executives would work better, for example. And while they tried to lowball them. How can people who lost were us. If you're dealing with the other hand, he tried to preserve their wealth by forbidding the export of gold or silver.
On the other people who should quit their day job writing software goes up more than 20 years, maybe they'll listen to them rather than trying to upgrade an existing investor, and there didn't seem to them till they also influence one another both directly and indirectly. He did eventually graduate at about 26. They each constrain the other meanings are fairly closely related. Except text editors and compilers.

Stone, op. Actually he's no better or worse than he was before, but that it's a departure from the Dutch not to quit their day job. So if you're a big effect on college admissions there would be to write your dissertation in the fall of 2008 but no doubt often are, but more often than not what it would have been about 2,000. Hm... I'm enthralled now. How did you come to do voice acting? Was it a sort of, spur of the moment? Or was it more so like a passion you wanted to pursue after highschool/college? I've also begun to wonder. What do you specifically do to change the timbre of your voice? I assume its different for every voice actor out there and, given your experience, you've most likely developed a method no? Lastly, how do you land jobs? Do you need a specific talent or is it more so fitting the voice color?
January 2007
I discover that voice acting is a thing. My time spent on Neopets noticeably dwindles for the moment.
(Also none of these are specific moments that I think made or broke my career, I am just offering all relevant moments in time)
Feb/Mar 2007
A man by the name of Deven “Mac” notices my frequent postings on Newgrounds - my fervent spamming, more like - and informs me about Voice Acting Club. Kira Buckland, 10 years younger, is finishing up school soon and has begun plans for moving out of Alaska to pursue life in Cali
March 2007 - 2008
Amateur Voice Acting AHOY! I audition for a shitload of projects, mostly fandubs. Mostly Newgrounds. my voice is terrible but my enthusiasm and energy is unyielding. Mac helps me with basic tenets of voiceover techniques and I also exhibit some pretty shitty behaviors (delaying submitting lines for weeks because I’m nervous about ‘doing them wrong’).
September 2008
I get accepted into Western Michigan on a scholarship. I decide to major in Film/Video/Media studies because it’s 'the most similar to what I want to do’ (Voiceover) and decide to put more personal interests in as minors (Journalism, Japanese, Psychology).
The actual curriculum itself did jack shit for my career but it’s what I did during my time there that matters more.
2008-2012
Four years of college. I make friends within my interest groups but nearly all of my time is spent either in class or in my dorm room on my PC. OMGPOP is king of my time until Maplestory releases the Evan class.
More importantly, it was also the formative years of my freelance career.
I sign up for Voice123 membership. It goes horribly. Low ratings nearly all the time. I take on an audiobook job and deliver over-estimate by 7 goddamn months. Client is PISSED.A site called VoiceBunny also crops up; more suited for quick one-off jobs that don’t need 'the perfect voice’, just a suitable one. Extremely reliant on being at your computer at a moment’s notice.
I have no social life.
This meshes well.
Within college, I am constantly involved in things related to acting/voiceover.
- On-campus Sexual Health Peer Education group (skits and lectures) all 4 years of attendance. This also gave me opportunities to record voiceover for segments needing 'voice of god’- local radioplay group All Ears Theater (2 productions every 2-3 months, included a formal audition process and live performances in front of audiences for later broadcast via radio/web)- Audio Production class (as part of my Major) quick-learns me basic editing techniques, directly translates to my ability to do quickfire editing and turnaround now as a freelancer.- Continuing to do auditions for stuff for Voice Acting club. This is probably the most similar to many ‘Tumblr phase’ performers on here.Over time, constant exposure + guidance from peers/my mentor helps me to hone my skills. I still tend to 'loud-act’ things, IE using an unnecessarily loud/forceful voice for simple business narration, but I’m beginning to understand the intricacies of different styles (Commercial vs. Promo vs. character, etc)
January 2009
During winter break, on a ski trip with family, I learn about Anime Expo’s AX Idol competition. I tell my dad the one thing I want for my birthday present is funding to help go to this convention and compete. He obliges.
Summer 2009
I go to Anime Expo and compete in AX Idol for voiceover.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUQpkyfVYog
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PwvyeM1jw
Things go well.
Fall 2009 - sometime 2011
Things DO NOT GO WELL. My victory at AX causes me to feel like I know what I am doing, leads to an almost 2 year stint of godawful delivery choices as I 'phone in’ performances like they’re just going to be good on foundation. My mentor is frustrated with me and at least one peer of mine actively thinks I don’t deserve the kinds of opportunities I’ve had over how hard he himself has worked.
2012
I graduate from college, determine that the only way I’m going to make progress is by forcing myself into the community where the industry exists. If I’m going to get workshops and studio auditions and actual non-online work, I need to be where the work is.
Summer 2012, 2 months after graduation
I move from Michigan to California
I have enough savings to cover about a year of rent if everything goes horribly horribly wrong (including losing every single freelance client I’d slowly built relationships with during college), but it’s obvious I need to find work to continue to stay out here.
I take a Graveyard shift job at Stanley security. It sucks my fucking soul out.
Meanwhile by day, I am still doing my freelance thing. I let BangZoom know I am now local. I work with my mentor on piecing together a demo both from good bits I’d done before and fresh content written for the demo, something I can show off to clients that is good enough to be worth listening to but that I can admit “I am new to the area and aiming to get my foot in the door for more professional work so that I can update my portfolio accordingly”
2012-2014
The Workshop Grind
Workshops with BangZoom, with Crispin Freeman, with VoiceTrax West, etc.
Through character archetype classes, I begin to understand where my inherent strengths lie (I already had an idea from my freelance side, but now I was able to confirm those strengths by having actual professionals go “You made great choices”)
BangZoom, meanwhile, SLOWLY works me up the chain of trust. I get called in for unpaid walla sessions just to see if I can meet appointments on time and follow directions.
Then unnamed 1-time characters in a crowd.
Then unnamed characters you can hear.
Then a recurring unnamed character.
Then at some point I get audition sides for something called Sword Art Online, for Kirito and Diabel. I initially only plan on auditioning for Kirito (dem Protagonist dweams) but have a last-minute Skype Workshop with Crispin about my auditions and get feedback from him.
He recommends I still try out for Diabel because it plays into my strengths and “why the hell not?”
I do.
2013-2014
Pretty much my ONLY studio work is coming from BangZoom, and it’s not frequent. I quit my job at Stanley only because I had some extra savings now and wanted to force myself to 'git gud’ instead of letting a safety net of money keep me from pursuing more.
But slowly, SLOWLY, through BangZoom auditions and the occasional booking, web strings begin to attach.
Out of personal interest, I do a brief stint as a QA tester for NIS America. This also happens around the time BangZoom is casting for DanganRonpa and Fairy Fencer F. My employment didn’t affect my audition chances, but it did solidify NISA’s knowledge of me as a voiceover artist.
I do some work for Ys: Memories of Celceta for a company called XSEED. Nothing comes of it until almost 3 years later, when a new localization lead named Brittany recalls my performance from Ys and says “I think he could be a really good fit for this dude named Rean Schwarzer”.
I land work on Killer Instinct through BangZoom. The director of that LOVES my performance, proceeds to slowly bring me back now and again for recurring roles on stuff like Gundam IBO and other projects.
Back to XSEED.I land my lead role in Trails of Cold Steel. Recording is at PCB Productions, who now knows I exist.
Everyone has a good time, I send my samples/demos to PCB (now updated further), they begin sending me THEIR audition sides as well.
At one point, a director for PCB I know well is collaborating with a studio called Cup of Tea on Akiba’s Beat. Kira has been working with Cup of Tea for YEARS but I had never had an opportunity to get in touch with them before now.
Director puts me in touch with Cup of Tea, who now knows I exist. Session goes decently, I tell them I am very interested in pursuing future work/auditions and would like to share my demos with them. They accept. For sake of time I will leave that thread where it is because I imagine you can understand what the underlying theme is.
Just a sporadic but progressive timeline of preparedness + Opportunity allowing me to expand my options.
Back to Workshop Side:
I continue actively pursuing workshops for other companies, especially VoiceTrax west. I sign up for “meet the pros” evenigns where I have a chance to perform + get feedback.
The workshop actively disclaimers that there is no expectation of getting work + it is intended to be a learning experience, but I go in with the mindset of “I’m going to leave them WANTING to work with me”.
With a much more thorough understanding of my strengths by now, I tend to do a formula of picking 1-2 characters I know I can do well, and one that is within my range but is relatively challenging. Worst case scenario I still leave a good impression, best case I completely surprise myself (and the host) and leave a lasting one.
This works out well. Said method greatly interests a representative from Mattel and one from Disney Parks (not the animation side, just the theme park side). I thank them for their time, ask if I can share demos with them/get their contact email, contact them and express interest in receiving audition opportunities.
Through one of these same workshops, I also meet my future agency, SBV Talent’s lead person Mary Ellen Lord. I do the same thing. Mary proceeds to circumvent SBV’s entire policy of “Referrals Only” representation to ask me to come to their offices to record an official application demo.Note that none of these workshop outcomes, or the workshops themselves, were things pointed to me by studios I was working for. This section was all self-driven/pursued (and also required me to be local).Since then, I’ve been continuing the routine of doing freelance work from home, sending out auditions for studio-hosted projects when the sides are provided to me, and generally working with my mentor when I have questions about approaching a certain character. Either because of personal growth or recent portfolio additions (or both), my success rate with booking new roles has kind of shot up; I’m hoping this trend continues for the foreseeable future.

Another post of questions to clear out my inbox a little aaA
I numbered them above in the pictures so hopefully again people can just skip to whatever they’re interested in and read those answers without me spamming my blog answering like 10+ asks at once lol... [responses under read more so it’s not too long]
-------
1. “plz share website when you are done!”
Well, it seems I’ve discovered that... websites are... exbpensive... lol... So even though I talked about it a bit, I’m actually not going to have a separate website for my worldbuilding stuff (I thought it was 15$ a year for unlimited websites, it’s actually like.. 15$ a month per website + you have to buy domain names for like $20 extra instead of it being included). I did still finish my personal one, but I won’t be able to afford another one just for world lore and art stuff. HOWEVER, during the process I did end up still reviewing all of the information, so my art blog (link) is now totally up to date with a few new posts and etc. (I just didn’t reblog them all here yet since I didn’t want to be spammy doing all that at once), and all information has been revised lol (some old posts... very inaccurate since I had changed the world since then). SO, even though I can’t have my own site for worldbuilding, at least some good came out of the experience of trying to make one, as all the Nanyevimi (the world) info is now up to date lol.
-
2. “shit... is idanya taking girlfriend applications??? lol (i don’t know how to type a heart emoji on a computer so I can’t replicate it)”
(ask is in reference to this post (link)) ggbhbbbBBhHHHH ,, It would be hard to find down time to actually relax and go on dates or anything since she’s always studying or traveling thousands of miles to go yell at elven royalty but, I suppose.....if you traveled with her as an assistant or something. berhaps a romance could blossom lmao.. you can yell at elven royalty,, Together.. pissing off rich people in elven castles is a good couples’ activity bhbhb
-
3. “Have you been approached to do costume design for movies...”/”You should work for movies and tv shows and photoshoots...” etc. (I paired these together since the answer is similar)
Thanks so much for the compliments lol!!! I don’t think I could do that type of work since I haven’t been to school (especially on some actual production I feel like they’d want you to have qualifications and training),, and I don’t actually sew very much (I don’t create costumes from scratch as much as I just take pre-existing items of clothing and arrange them together, occasionally cutting or sewing or pinning them together in different ways,, but I thought like, Offiical Costume People have to know the ins and outs of sewing and are expected to wholly make their own stuff from scratch lol)…
And also like.. I don’t know if I could handle the stress of having to work with other people bhb.. my mental illness is so bad sometimes I can’t even go grocery shopping without having anxiety attacks and crying and being unable to breathe lol.. Though maybe I think I could help friends or do things on a smaller scale.. Like casually putting together a few outfits for a small group of 3 people for their low budget high school film project or music video for their tiny unknown band would be a lot more low pressure and calm and accepting of my limitations than working with some huge group of people where I’m expected to stay perfectly in line on a strict schedule and I’m always like rushing around and having to deal with people who are indifferent to me and if I need to take a break or get anxious or something they just yell at me and fire me because there are a million other people who could easily replace me and I’m useless if I can’t fit perfectly into their well oiled machine of Very Big Very Professional High Standards lmao. Which obviously not everything is like that but idk, especially being so inhibited in certain functioning, I feel like I need a little more ability to step away from things if I need to, and people who are working at such a high level on a strict schedule (like, real professionals) would have absolutely no tolerance for me bhbb.
This is why I’m always hesitant to collaborate with others or do bigger projects unless I really know the people well or it’s a very welcome environment where it’s been clearly noted ahead of time that they’re willing to allot for some of those things, otherwise I’m afraid of it being too overwhelming for me and them just getting mad and firing me lol.. I think if I were working on a huge movie set or something I would absolutely need similar accommodations to like how some kids in school would have a person accompanying them (not a therapist but just like.. an assistant,.?? to help communicate for them and be a ‘safe person’ they can get help from when having a panic attack or etc.), and I feel like most Big Official Productions wouldn’t be willing to put up with that lol.. So I feel like I could really only ever work on more small scale casual sort of things with people I’m comfortable with, or people who make it easy to become comfortable with them and are accepting to work with, but probably not just random big studios or something (not that I would ever have the qualifications anyway), if that makes sense??)
But anyway!!! I haven’t and I don’t think I ever would be for some of the reasons listed, but I very much appreciate the sentiment! It’s really nice and inspiring that people think so positively of the random costumes I throw together for fun and etc lol! I hope you both have an amazing day!

4. “When will yout game be finished? Idk what its about but i’m interested lol”
GOD I don’t know hbhjrbhhbhh... Maybe.. 800 million years... lol... Legitimately though, maybe like.. midway through 2019 (if the world doesn’t end by then and etc. etc.)?? I wanted to have it ready for people to play test by december but.. it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen (probably more like February), so I’m behind a few months... I just.. hate... art... lol.. Like, things like writing dialogue and character creation/design/writing come incredibly easy to me and are so fun they never feel like work, I could come up with characters and worldbuilding details for a week straight without ever once feeling uninspired or unhappy or etc.. Coding and music are like, acceptable. I don’t make digital music often (I prefer like.. non..digital.. like.. singing or something) and I don’t do game coding ever, but it’s like, stuff that’s okay enough for me to do passably with a little bit of looking things up and etc... ART... however.. I ..... BHBB.....HHHHhhhhh.. I cannot do art!!!!! Like I can do sketches and generally scribble things out quickly to kind of solidify a concept in my head or something, but when it comes to like.. ACTUALLY trying to make things look nice and consistent and with clean line art AND DIGITALLY (after years of trying different brushes, settings, programs, practicing different things, etc. etc. my brain still can just not fathom digital art like... idk why I just can’t get used to it, it NEVER goes the same as drawing on paper) on top of all that it’s like... so... exhausting.. I’m even trying to see if just doing the location backgrounds on paper then scanning them and coloring digitally in a layer under them or something would look/work okay because I just.. can’t... bring myself to sit at a bastard computer holding a little pen making shaky shitty lines over and over again for 6 hours straight ANY MORE lol... people who can actually manage to do digital art without their soul shattering are so brave and powerful and are the true rulers of this earth..
ANYWAY!! I don’t know?? soon-ish??? The fact that I’m not good at digital art (or mostly the fact that I don’t enjoy it and thus am already starting at such a point of low motivation that it’s more easily frustrating that I’m not necessarily great at it) has set me back a few more months than expected since that part is taking a long time,, and also idk what the hell to do for people testing the game once it’s complete-ish since I .. literally like... have no social connections.. I can think of maybe one person who would do it lol... So further down the road I could foresee that also being a problem.. but otherwise I’ve been breezing through the writing/coding/music, so at least like.. there are a few easy things to make up for the ART being EVIL.. Thus I think maybe like.. March 2019?? April if I do end up having trouble finding people that I can trust to test it out for me due to the Big Hermit Energy lol... I think I’m making okay progress for something I’m doing all myself, whilst juggling 800 other projects, and also that I only really started in like February,, but also just... ghhhh... Art Problems have really stalled me
(also just for reference, the game is like... a small and simple character focused interactive fiction-ish rpg sort of thing where you're in like.. a street with a lot of shops on it and you can go around and talk to all the shopkeepers (who are of course all elves and vampires and various fantasy beings and etc., since it’s set in my world) and you can do tasks for them to get them to trust you I guess etc. Kind of like a dating sim in the sense of it being character personality centered and mostly about having conversations and choosing dialogue to interact with the shopkeeper of your choice and traveling with them or helping them with things.. except like, focused on being hired at a little potion shop or something instead of being focused on romance..??? I’m probably bad at describing it since I don’t know anything about games or genres or etc. but?? idk??? Though I appreciate you still being interested just because I mentioned making a game once or twice in the tags of other posts without you even knowing the actual premise bhbhb... true dedication (not that I ever want to like, encourage people to blindly support/take interest in things I’m doing just because they like other things I do but,, you know what I mean lol))
--
5. “heyy, do you have an instagram i could follow? (i still can’t replicate heart emojis to type the asks exactly how they appear lol)”
yes, it is here (link), though I’m very bad at keeping up with it and am kind of behind on posting all the stuff I post here onto there.. I never use my cell phone and 99% of the time keep my data off with all apps closed/disabled so I just like.. don’t.. use apps much lol.. I get on every few months or so though to post like 9 pictures at once and then disappear for another few months lol.. It’s something I want to keep up with more regularly ideally but I just,, have way too many projects and things right now to spend too much time social media managing I guess, which is something I’ve always been bad at to begin with lol
--
6. “will you post pics of the mansion when it’s done?”
I assume (because of the time it was sent and etc.) you’re referencing the sims mansion I mentioned in my recent post about my game crashing? (if not, sorry!! just send another ask clarifying what you mean and I’ll respond to that instead lol).. .. I probably won’t post pictures, but I could do a video tour or something (I always feel they look better in 3D and have trouble capturing all the details in just a few screen shots). I still have a lot of sims recordings on my computer and I really like making houses and sharing what they look like with people, so I still definitely want to make sims videos sometime (more than just those two random ones I made and then left unlisted on youtube for a while lol), but it’s just one of those things that kind of gets pushed to the side when I have to focus on so many other things (writing, music, game making, costumes, sculpting, etc.). I can definitely try to remember to do that though when I finish the place (if I can ever recover from losing an hour of work on it aaaaAAA). Though I’d probably post stuff like that on my game stuff blog (link) instead, since like... game videos and screenshots and etc. are what it’s for, and I wouldn’t want to clutter my main blog with like, videos of me mumbling weirdly while I ramble for 20 minutes over footage of a digital broken down house lol.. Anyway: maybe!?! I’ll have to see whenever I have time to finish it and actually edit videos again for once lol
-
7. “your cat is so smart and considerate!!!”

he agrees
-
8. “Would it be okay to draw you? of course i would give credit and links to where to find you?”
Yes, it would be fine! It’s always generally okay for people to draw me (within reason of course like, obviously don’t draw me wearing a racist t-shirt or killing a child or something, but I think that goes without saying lol), and I’d always like to see it if you do! Though idk how reliable tumblr’s tagging system is for actually showing notifications, I do usually see it at least when people tag me on instagram in fan art and stuff.. I promise it’s not personal if you ever tag me in art and it takes me forever to see it (or if it’s been like months and I still haven’t given any indication that I saw it, feel free to message me about it or something, I probably just missed it because tumblr glitch/i never check instagram/etc)).
-
9. “(general complimentary asks about my outfits and etc.”
I just included a few of these since I get nice messages like this a lot but I feel like it’s weird to reply to all of them (like, to just have.. 8 posts in a row on my blog of me being like “wow thanks so much!!!” etc. lol), but I always just want to send out a general reply to everyone who ever sends me anything nice and say thank you!! I truly appreciate it even though I don’t reply to all of them !!
-
10. “Are there good groups of elves in your story? Or is there a reason they’re all supposed to all be bad?”
YES, plenty of elves are fine!!!!!!!!! aaaaa, I feel bad since I feel like I make all elves look awful, but they’re not all like the Fanyniri. It’s just because my current focus is so heavily on the Avirre’thel, most of the times that elves have been mentioned in worldbuilding stuff so far, it’s been from the perspective and experience of their species, which obviously,, living right next door to arguably one of the worst elven empires in existence means they’re usually referenced negatively, but like, there are MANY groups of elves that exist outside of that. Though it is true that some alliance elves are pretty awful (not all, there are some nations in the alliance that are actually fairly mild, but then it’s like.. yeah but you all still kind of support the others in your group who actively have like.. child slaves and shit so... even if you’re not bad yourself, letting your neighbors have a free pass on that stuff still makes you kinda fucked up by association), even then it’s usually the whole thing where the people in power being awful doesn’t always translate to the general public being bad (especially since there’s a lot of dictatorships and such in certain elven alliance countries where like.. the common people have literally no say in who the royalty or whatever are, and often aren’t in a position to rebel due to them being too influential or having magic in place to prevent it or etc.). Like, even in alliance countries and places with disgusting practices and stuff.. the majority of the actual population are still fine people doing their best, fighting back in any way they can or trying to help their fellow citizens survive and etc.
If you count every subspecies/group/etc. of elf all together, they’re the most prominent species in Navyete, and make up almost 50% of the world population, so obviously not all of them are just like, rotten horrible people by nature or something, there’s way too many different cultures and groups of them. And I just try to avoid the ‘X species always has X quality by nature’ thing anyway, since it has bad associations.
When I do generalize, I try to always give a disclaimer that it doesn’t apply to everyone and make it very clear that it has nothing to do with anything inherent (usually it’s the environment rather than just an innate quality they have. Like for example in the Avvi’da Vina post I think I reference that the avirre’thel, generally, culturally, support the pursuit of knowledge. But I phrase it in a way to imply that it’s not like an inherent trait of the species or something they’re all ~supernaturally predisposed to~, it’s just an ideal that tends to be valued in their broader popular culture and thus, that will to some degree influence people who live within said culture. But there are plenty of avirre’thel who don’t have that trait at all, and many differing subcultures and groups within the species that aren’t the same.
Avirre’thel are a little more generalizable than groups like elves, since they’re quite small in number, extremely isolated, and like 99% of their entire species still lives in one single country and have kept to themselves mostly for 20,000 years, thus most Avvire’thel are born into the same broader culture and etc., yet even with them there’s not a single trait I could say most of them posses or anything like that. Like.. even in the most isolated large species I’ve created so far, they still have a lot of internal variety (which hopefully still shows somewhat, even if I don’t have much information out about them yet.. I’m always afraid of people coming off too uniform since it’s just not realistic at all ghbb, but also I’m trying to keep posts short so I can’t add a long disclaimer after every sentence but, idk, hopefully this is already reasonably implied/understood).
So especially with a species that’s so scattered across the world and has so many different countries and etc. like elves do is like... they could never be generalized .. at all... really? You could say stuff like ‘many of the elven nations that currently have the most influence on a global stage, have been found to employ some shady practices and have morally dubious traditions’ or something, but in terms of ALL elves being a certain way it would be impossible. It’s the same with jhevona or any of the other broader more scattered species in my world. With ythrili or verrucalt or other groups that have less than 500 members in the entire species (all of which usually live in a the same tiny area), I can kind of generalize a bit more (but again, still not entirely or absolutely), but with things like elves and jhevona and etc. I think when I focus on them and start writing more about them, I’ll actually have to break up the information by individual nations or groups, rather than the species as a whole, since there’s just no way I could even sum them up broadly, aside from like, them all sharing some of the same most general physical traits (most jhevona having horns, elves having pointy ears, etc.)
ANYWAY, so I mean like, due to most modern day elves being evolved from just one or two ancient groups of elves, you do see some similarities in traditions and stuff (like many elven groups, even if very different culturally, may practice modern day variants of the same ancient religion, with a few noticeable similarities between them or something), and like a few cultural practices that have been shared across various groups throughout the years, but especially in terms of personality traits or core nature, elves aren’t all the same, and there’s definitely not something like a built in lore reason that requires they all have the same temperament (being evil) or something lol.
The negative implication of elves I think is just because of my current focus on the Avvire’thel, thus you really only hear about “bad” groups, like the Fanyiniri or other alliance elves.. But once I spread out more and focus on other continents and groups and etc., there are plenty of elven nations that aren’t as hostile seeming (and again.. it’s usually just the class in power that is awful and makes all the bad politics, even the Avirre’thel don’t hate average citizens of Fanyin, they see them as just as much victims of the Fanyiniri government as they themselves have been). Not all elves are meant to be awful so I’m sorry if I give that impression at this point! Hopefully I can explore some other elven groups and move away from the Fanyiniri and the alliance and etc. once I get to other continents and cultures and am no longer just focused mostly around Aviinine where the avirre’thel originated and etc. !!
( Also, as a last random thing, I just wanted to specify quickly that I’m not writing a story lol. I just do world-building stuff since I find it fun, but am not creating the world background for anything in particular. I’m currently using some of my species and etc. in a small game I’m making and a few other tiny projects, but the world itself wasn’t created specifically FOR that purpose and still really isn’t for anything. If I want to I can use the pre-established setting in random stuff I do in the future or something whenever random ideas come to me (like with deciding to do the game), but I don’t have the specific intention of working it into anything larger. I just don’t want to be misleading and make it seem like I’m going to write a book or like people should be expecting all the world information to be working towards some big goal/story/or etc,, Let it be known that I’m just a big nerd loser who spends hours writing about elven politics for no particular reason or clear goal in mind since it’s just... genuinely the most entertaining thing ever and comes very naturally for me lmao. For the longest time I’ve always had so many ideas, and have always been bothered by the fact that I have nothing to actually DO with them, but after a long time of trying to work all of my disconnected concepts into a book or something, I guess one day I just decided.... I don’t really care if it’s not FOR anything.. who says it has to be.... FOR something.. I can always just develop the ideas for no reason at all just because I like doing it lol.. Then the whole frustrating part of being limited by having to force my thoughts into some narrative or something is removed and i can just float along focusing on the ideas themselves.
But anyway, yeah, just wanted to clarify that since I don’t want anyone expecting anything from me or like, anticipating that I’m working on a book or something lmao.. I definitely.. am just out here chilling with no real goal in mind.. It’s Like That Sometimes )

Okay, that’s all for now, thanks to everyone for the questions!! Sorry I go so long without answering (and still haven’t gotten to all of them), but I’m.. trying to be more responsive lol
#replies#god i know I'm posting this in the middle of the night but I should just go ahead and post it now instead of procrastinating tomorrow lol#I'll reblog it at another time or something to make up for it so others still get to see it hbhbh#I just have a bad habit of letting things sit in my drafts for like... weeeks and weeks and always thinking 'Oh#i'll definitely get to that later!!' ghghghgg... I got an ask earlier today that I thought i could add to this so then I was like 'OKAY.. im#finally going to finish that thing and post it!!!' but now it's like.. bad post#timing i guess... oh well..#Sometimes It's Like That#anyway.. sorry again it takes me so long to answer things and I still haven't answered everything in my inbox but.. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-10 Paul tells them that because of their immaturity he has ‘fed them milk, not meat’. He continues to correct them on their penchant for ‘men worship’. He says ‘I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase’. He even says ‘we are nothing, its Gods Spirit that counts!’ I guess poor Paul wasn’t up on the contemporary self esteem movement in the church? Paul says ‘as a wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation and others have built upon it’ also ‘ye are Gods building, Gods garden’. I have studied this concept of the ‘wise masterbuilder’ a lot over the years. The Apostle is known for his wisdom. Jesus said ‘I have sent you [Jerusalem] wise men and prophets’. The Apostles are the ‘wise men’. If I remember I will try and paste some entries on the reality of the apostolic ministry today. That is the teaching from scripture on the ongoing apostolic ministry. Don’t mistake it for the original ‘apostles of the Lamb’. They were special eyewitnesses of the resurrection. The ongoing gift which is spoken about in the New Testament plays a different role, yet we can glean things from Paul and others on this ministry gift. Paul was primarily a ‘foundation layer’ he spent no time building ‘buildings’ or human institutions, but he knew the reality of foundation laying. His proclamation of the gospel had the inherent ability to change a region for Christ and his kingdom. He had the wisdom to build into the communities a self sustaining mentality. A few months to a few years was the amount of time Paul spent in these communities. When he left them they were for all practical purposes self sustaining communities of Christ followers. How in the world did he do this on such a shoestring budget? The reality of Jesus and his resurrection was tremendously good news. Paul started them right. In today’s church world we seem to lay all sorts of other ‘foundations’. Faith, prosperity, healing, the ‘house church’; all good things in their proper place, but the reality of Christ seems to take second place. Also, Paul did not institute the pastoral office that we have come to depend on in the modern church. He did establish Elders, but he did not leave a ‘professional minister’ as the primary functioning ‘elder’ in their midst. Why is this important to see? Because when people are given ‘crutches’ they will use them! If momma eagle never kicks baby eagle out of the nest, then baby eagle will wind up on food stamps [Don’t feel bad if you are on them, I am just using this as an example]. In essence Paul built into the first century churches a self sustaining mindset. They were the church and they had the responsibility to represent Christ in their locals. They couldn’t pawn it off on ‘the pastor’. Paul would also do some writing. These letters would circulate throughout the communities and were regularly read by a literate believer in these churches. I know it’s common to think that the early believers ‘had bibles’ but this wasn’t the case. Paul’s letters were part of the early ‘canon’ but you wouldn’t have total agreement on the canon until around the 4th century. But these letters played a major role in ‘foundation laying’. The modern believer is primarily educated thru the sermon. Sermons are okay, but without literature, the job won’t get done. Say if your doctor, or mechanic or tax man told you ‘I have never been educated in school, but every Sunday I attended a lecture at the local lecture hall. I did this for 50 years. So let’s get on with the operation.’ Ouch! But we approach Christianity with this mindset. Paul wrote letters, short booklets if you will. These letters could be looked to as a stable source of doctrine for the early church. They would eventually be canonized and would be passed down to us 2 millennia later. We are reading from one right now.
[These 2 entries simply give scriptural evidence for the ongoing function of Apostles/Prophets today]
(739) ACTS 1- Luke, the writer of this book, feels the need to document the ongoing work of Jesus and his revolution. He already wrote a gospel and believes this to be the beginning of the story. In essence, the reality of Jesus and his resurrection are just the start, we have much more to do and become on this journey. Most writers jump to chapter 2. We have churches and music groups called ‘Acts chapter 2’. Why does Luke seem to wait till chapter 2 before getting to ‘the good stuff’? Chapter one records the 40 days of Jesus showing himself alive after his death. Luke feels this singular truth to be important enough to simply stand alone [I do realize the early letters did not have chapter and verse divisions like today]. The real physical fact of Jesus bodily resurrection is without a doubt the foundational truth of the gospel. The outpouring of the Spirit and the whole future of the church depends on the reality of the resurrected Christ. Paul will write the Corinthians and tell them if the resurrection were not true then they are the most miserable of all people. Luke tells us Jesus gave instructions for the Apostles to wait at Jerusalem for the Spirit. Thy will be witnesses of him to all the surrounding nations after the Spirit empowers them. We also see Peter emerge as the key spokesman for the group. He quotes freely from the Psalms and reads their own history into the book. He sees the prophetic verse from David on ‘let another take his office’ as referring to Judas betrayal and death. They cast lots and choose Matthias as the one to replace Judas. Peter shows the importance of Judas replacement to come from one that was with them thru out the earthly time of Jesus. Someone who saw and witnessed Jesus after the resurrection. Scholars have confused this with the ‘ascension gift Apostles’. Some scholars have taken the truth of the early Apostles having the criteria of being actual witnesses of Jesus, and have said ‘therefore, you have no Apostles today’. Paul will teach in Ephesians that after Jesus ascension on high he gave gifts unto men ‘some Apostles, others Prophets, etc.’ The New Testament clearly speaks of Apostles as an ongoing gift in the church. Barnabas will later be called an Apostles [Acts 14:14] as well as many other references in the original Greek using the same Greek word for Apostle. But here we find Peter seeing the need to replace Judas. Other scholars think Peter might have jumped the gun. They see Paul’s apostleship as the possible person the Lord picked out as the replacement. You do find Paul referring time and again to his Apostolic authority as one ‘born out of due time’ who saw Jesus on the Damascus road. If Paul was simply an ascension gift Apostle, why would he refer time and again to his authority based on being a witness who also saw Jesus? It’s possible that Paul was in this group of ‘Apostles of the Lamb’ who had extra authority based upon their testimony of being eyewitnesses. So in chapter one we see that Jesus appeared for 40 days giving instructions to the early leadership and told them to wait at Jerusalem for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We see the incarnational purpose of God, Jesus was and continues to be the express image of God to man. He was not some ‘phantom’ like the Docetists will claim, but a very real physical resurrected Lord. Luke begins the early history of the church with this reality being important enough to stand on its own.

CHAPTER 1:
‘God, who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the Prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds’ Many years ago when I was going to a fundamental Baptist Church, they would interpret this passage in a ‘cessationist’ way. They would say because God says in the past he spoke by prophets, but now by his Son. That this means he doesn’t speak thru Prophets any more. The Prophets here are Old Testament voices. In Ephesians it says after Jesus ascended up on high he gave gifts unto men, some Apostles, some Prophets, etc. The fact that Jesus made Prophets after the ascension teaches us that there were to be a whole new class of New Testament Prophets that were different from the old. I find it strange to believe that Jesus would create a whole new class of gifts, and then take them away as soon as the Bible is complete. Why would Paul give instruction in the New Testament on how Prophets would operate [Corinthians] and then to say ‘as soon as this letter is canonized with the others, all this instruction will be useless’ it just doesn’t seem right.
The reason Paul is saying in the past God used Prophets, but today his Son. Paul is showing that the Jewish Old testament was a real communication from God to man. But in this dispensation of Grace, God is speaking the realities that the Prophets were looking to. Paul is saying ‘thank God for the Old Jewish books and law, they point to something, his name is Jesus’! The Prophets [Old Testament] served a purpose; they brought us from the shadows to the present time [1st century] now lets move on into the reality. Now you must see and hear the Son in these last days. ‘Who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person…when he by himself purged our sins SAT DOWN on the right hand of the majesty on high’ here we are at the beginning stages of themes that we will see later in the letter. The significance of Jesus ‘sitting down’ will be contrasted with the Old testament priests ‘standing up’. Paul [for the record I think Paul wrote this letter, from here on I will probably just refer to the writer as Paul] will teach that the ‘standing up’ of the Levitical Priests represented an ‘incomplete priesthood’ the reason Jesus sat down was because there would be no more sacrifice, and no more priesthood made up of many priests who would die year after year. This doesn’t mean there would be no more New Testament priests as believers, but that there would be no more Old Testament system. Paul will find spiritual truths like this all thru out the Old Testament.
Some theologians feel that Paul is a little too loose with these free comparisons that he seems to ‘pull out of the hat’, for the believer who holds to the canon of scripture, it is the Word of God. ‘Being made so much better than the angels…but unto the Son he saith “thy throne O God is forever and ever, a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy Kingdom”. Here Paul introduces another theme that will be seen thru out this letter. The superiority of Jesus over angels. Why is this important? Most believers know that Jesus is greater than angels, don’t they? Here we see why context is important to understand this letter. In Jewish tradition it is believed that the law was given to Moses by God thru the mediation of angels. Some say ‘well, we don’t use Jewish tradition, we use scripture’. First, Paul used anything he could to win the argument. Second, if we believe Hebrews is an inspired book, then when we read later on that the law given thru angels received a recompense if broken, then right here you have scripture [Hebrews] testifying that God did use angels to ‘transmit’ the law to some degree. Now, why is it important for gentiles to see this? Well it really isn’t! But it is vital for a first century Jew to see it. If Paul can show that Jesus is greater than the angels, then he is beginning to make the argument that the New Covenant is greater than the Old.
Here is the context. Moses law is highly revered in the first century Jewish community, so here Paul says ‘how much better is the law/word given to us from Gods Son’. Since Jesus is much better than the angels, therefore pay closer attention to the words spoken thru Gods Son, he is greater than the angels! ‘But to which of the angels said he “sit at my right hand until I make thy enemies thy footstool” we end chapter one with the theme of Jesus being better than the angels, yet in chapter 2 something funny happens, Paul will make the argument of Jesus being “a little lower than the angels” lets see what this means.
(947) 1ST CORINTHIANS 3:11-23 Paul teaches that once the foundation of Jesus is laid, that no other foundation can come in and replace it. Remember, Paul is speaking about a spiritual foundation. He is not building ‘a literal building’! I know we know this, but for some reason modern church planters can’t seem to break the mindset of having a building ‘to do church’. Now we begin to get into some doctrine. I believe Paul begins a New Testament doctrine here that could be called ‘the sin unto natural death’ or the judgment of a believer when he falls into open sin and rebellion and refuses to repent. Now, I have looked at this doctrine from different views over the years. I try not to allow my own leaning towards reformed theology to effect me. But I have come down on the side of ‘eternal security’ in viewing these verses. Paul teaches that even though the foundation of Jesus is laid, it’s still possible to build a life of worthless things upon it. He says ‘if any man defiles Gods temple, him will God destroy’. This same language will be used in chapter 5 ‘deliver the sinning brother to satan for the destruction of the flesh so the spirit may be saved’. Paul also uses the term again here in chapter 3 ‘yet he will be saved as by fire’. Also in chapter 11 ‘for this cause many sleep [physical death] and are sick among you’ he uses this as a judgment that came upon them for their abuse of the Lords table. So reading this in context it sure seems that Paul is saying ‘if you, as a believer, allow yourself to fall into sin in such a way that you are doing permanent harm to the temple [which he describes as their bodies, both individually and corporately] then God will destroy you’. This seems to fit all these other verses. The apostle John also speaks on the ‘sin unto death’ [which I see as physical death] in his letter. He says ‘if any one sees his brother sin a sin unto death, I do not say you should pray for them’. Now, the Arminian brothers [those who do not believe in eternal security] obviously see these a different way. They would apply some of these verses as meaning the loss of salvation. Though I personally do not see it this way, yet they have some of their own scriptures to back up their belief. They are certainly not out of line with historic Christian belief to hold to this view. So Paul introduces [in my mind] the concept of the possibility of the rebellious believer falling into such a sin that he can ‘be destroyed’ [lose his life] while at the same time saying ‘yet his spirit will be saved’. This ‘in house’ instruction [in house meaning Paul’s dealing with them as believers who fall into sin] should not taint the overriding view of Paul in his entire corpus of teaching. His main teaching on ‘those who live in constant sin’ is they will not inherit the kingdom of God. John also teaches this doctrine in his epistle. So we begin to see the ‘minefield’ we can get into as we tread thru the New Testament. It will be important to make these distinctions with much grace as we continue our journey thru the New Testament. Many well meaning believers view the ‘other camps’ as heretics over these issues. I see it more as a matter of believers being influenced to see these verses from a sincere standpoint of their upbringing. If you were raised Baptist, you more than likely view them from a Calvinistic lens. If you were raised Pentecostal [or Methodist], from an Arminian lens. Both good camps, with their own ‘slant’ affecting their view. I don’t think we should call each other heretics over stuff like this.
· 1st CORINTHIANS 4: 1-7 Paul says we are ‘stewards of Gods mysteries’. This hidden knowledge of the gospel that can only be revealed by divine revelation has been committed to us. These great treasures of God’s wisdom are not products of our own intellect, therefore there is no reason to glory in men! Paul says stuff like this in Romans 4 ‘if it is by grace that Abraham became righteous, then there are no grounds for boasting.’ Now, because of this reason we ‘ought not to think of each other in an exalted way’. All men [apostles, prophets, teachers] that you have received truth from are simply ‘carriers of a gift freely given’. When you check out a book from the library and it contains great truth, do you exalt the librarian for it? Of course not, she is just a ‘steward of the book’. So Paul says this about him and Apollos and all other human teachers. Paul also teaches that we all will be judged according to the motives and intents of our hearts. He could care less about the private judgments that others made of him, he realized that all men would give an account some day. Therefore why waste time trying to impress people, it is about the most useless thing a person can do. Why? Because all men are like grass, we are here today and gone tomorrow. How much effort would you make in trying to impress your lawn? It’s all wasted time. Paul is not degrading human dignity, he is battling with the mindset of men worship that the church was falling into. Jesus himself said he would not commit himself to man because he knew what was in man [John’s gospel]. What’s in man? Do you ‘know yourself’? Have you ever tried to impress people? Did you later realize what a useless waste of energy this endeavor was? Well all men are like you [and me!] so why waste your time doing something that has no lasting value. Paul said it concerned him very little, he knew God would some day see all of our motives. He focused on stuff that mattered for eternity.
· 1ST CORINTHIANS 4: 8-20 Paul tells them he’s glad they have an abundance of material things, though he as an apostle is lacking. He’s happy about their sterling reputation [among the elite, though a bad reputation as believers- see chapter 5!] though he is mocked and treated badly. He even says ‘till this hour I labor, working with my own hands trying to make ends meet’. I don’t want to harp on this too much, but I am trying to show you one of the themes that we overlook in today’s pastoral ministry mindset. When we taught the book of Acts [chapter 20] I showed you how Paul purposely worked to leave an example TO THE ELDERS at Ephesus. He called them over to Mellitus and gave them these instructions as he was about to depart. Here we see Paul telling the Corinthians, in a letter [he is not with them at this time] that he is STILL working with his own hands. We often think Paul only worked while at Corinth, in order to not take offerings from them. But a careful reading of the New Testament will show you that Paul made a habit of working all thru out his life. He never became ‘a fulltime apostle’ who was supported thru his apostolic gift. Now we also see Paul send Timothy to them as a ‘carrier’ of doctrine and order. Paul wrote 3 pastoral [I prefer to call them apostolic] epistles. Titus and 1st and 2nd These brothers were Paul’s apostolic co-workers. They deposited the faith [basic Christian truth] into the communities they were overseeing. Paul knew he could trust them to ‘set things in order’ [an apostolic characteristic]. Some teach that in today’s ‘church world’ you can’t ‘have a church’ without the interplay of an apostle. That basically you need an apostle [in person] to interact with your community to keep things in order. Now, I think apostolic men are needed and helpful, but we also need to realize that we live in a day of mass communication like never before. The web, telecommunications. All sorts of stuff that Paul didn’t have. So let’s not be too dogmatic on stuff like this. I am sure Paul would have used these things if he had them. The basic thrust of Paul having a Timothy who could be sent to a community was for the purpose of seeing and impacting them in a ‘real time’ way. Paul was hearing rumors about their conduct, he is writing these letters to them. But he really needs to have ‘boots on the ground’, he needs to know firsthand what’s going on. Today this real time knowledge could be gained with a simple phone call, or e-mail. Paul also says Timothy will bring them into remembrance of his ways/teachings that Paul teaches ‘every where in every church’. Paul was depositing a consistent message of ‘faith and rule’ with all the churches he was planting. This of course didn’t mean the gentile churches had no individual expression of church life, but it did mean there were some consistent ‘rituals’ they were to follow. Things like we read in Acts ‘continued steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and breaking of bread and prayers’ simple instructions on living as a community of people. The historic church has a tendency to use these verses to say ‘Paul taught high church liturgy’ well, not really. The ‘radical house church brothers’ [they describe themselves this way!] tend to teach that any consistent rule, or way ‘to act’ violates the ‘no leader rule’ [no pastor] and prohibits the free expression of the ecclesia. Well, this sounds noble, but Paul told the Corinthians ‘Timothy will show you my ways that I teach in all the churches’. It’s not wrong to have some basic order and instructions on ‘how to act, function as the New Testament ecclesia’.
VERSES-
1Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Corinthians 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Corinthians 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Corinthians 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
1Corinthians 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
1Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
1Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Corinthians 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1Corinthians 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Corinthians 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
1Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
1Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
1Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
1Corinthians 3:20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
1Corinthians 3:21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your's;
1Corinthians 3:22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are your's;
1Corinthians 3:23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
1Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
1Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
1Corinthians 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
1Corinthians 4:4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
1Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
1Corinthians 4:6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
1Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
1Corinthians 4:8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
1Corinthians 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
1Corinthians 4:10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
1Corinthians 4:11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
1Corinthians 4:12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
1Corinthians 4:13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.
1Corinthians 4:14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.
1Corinthians 4:15 For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
1Corinthians 4:16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
1Corinthians 4:17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
1Corinthians 4:18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
1Corinthians 4:19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
1Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
1Corinthians 4:21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
