Andrew rubs his thumb along the back of Neil's hand, along a burn scar. Neil's hand tightens around Andrew's and Andrew adjusts their hands so that his fingers can trace

He stops thinking about why Neil would be bothered that Andrew thinks he is pretty and starts thinking about why would be bothered about being pretty. The answer comes pretty quickly when his thumb traces along Neil's scarred hand.

Being desirable is something that Neil had never been allowed to be.

Mary had done her best to stamp it out but even with brown hair, brown eyes, half-starved, and feral...Neil had been cute.

i have been COOKING with this mob boss!alex x prostitute!henry fic. i want to start posting it now, but i'm forcing myself to be patient and write until it's finished so i can prove to myself i can accomplish something LOL.

here is a little snippet:

Alex smiles. “God, you’re so fucking British.” Henry rolls his eyes, but there is a hint of a smile on his face that betrays his feigned annoyance. “And you are horribly American.” When Alex laughs again, loud and carefree, Henry wants to just bottle up the sound and store it away for safekeeping. He wants to hear it again and again. He wants to keep it close to his chest so no one else can hear it. He wants everything Alex is willing to give him, and he is terrified to know what that really means. For this brief moment in time, who they are and what they represent to the world cease to exist. Henry isn’t a glorified sex worker for the city’s ultra-rich, and Alex isn’t the leader of New York City’s most notorious crime family. Right here, in the privacy and comfort of this normal, warm, and cozy brownstone, they are simply… Henry and Alex.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes! I really appreciate when readers take the time to post a comment, so I always answer at least with a brief "thank you".

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Defintiely the whole Closer series (LotR, Frodo/Éomer) because it is mostly canon compliant, so it ends with Frodo going into the West. 😭My Rough Sex series (The Boys, Butcher/Hughie) is also fairly angsty by its nature as a series of mildly canon divergent gap filler fics following through the episodes of S1 and S2 (so far).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think pretty much anything apart from the above two series? Well, apart from the Struck by a Bolt series (The Boys, Butcher/Hughie), which has the potential to go either way.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I haven't gotten outright hate, but certainly a few rude/entitled/"clearly hasn't read the tags or the end note despite me recommending to in the a/n at the beginning" comments.

9. Do you write smut? What kind?

LOL! All kinds. Soft, kinky (probably more kinky), some a bit dark. I seem to enjoy my ships a little fucked up.

10. Do you write cross-overs?

I don't have a proper crossover on my AO3 (see #12 for the reason why I specify it like this), though I'd love to write one sometime since I love reading them. The closest I've come is Kinktober Day 15: Monster Fucking (The Boys, Butcher/Hughie), which is heavily Beauty and the Beast inspired.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Little Brother was translating Private Tutor into Russian, though they haven't updated it in a while.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Oh yes! In fact, the first fics I posted online were cowritten with two (originally three, but one of then dropped out shortly after we'd started) friends, though under a different pen name and in a crossover of two small fandoms (with additional ones sneaking in here and there). I haven't written for that series in at least 15 years, though I still have fairly extensive notes for a trilogy of stories centered around my OC and I'd love to get back to that eventually.

But more recently, I've cowritten Line Without a Hook with erraticallyinspired (holyfudgemonkeys), who afaik isn't on Tumblr, and An Addams Family Guide to Kidnapping with @nonamemanga. I'm currently working on something with @suchaladyy, and who knows what and who will be next? It's a lot of fun!

13. What WIP would you like to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oof! I only have unpublished WIPs which I'm not sure if I'll ever get to finish them. Mostly for LotR.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

I really can't choose. Go look at my bookmarks on AO3, LOL!

15. What are your writing strengths?

Oh boy. Um. I think I've figured out quite well how to show character through smut, as well as to distinguish characters from one another by how they behave and talk.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Hmm... Sometimes I get bogged down in details, though I've gotten much better at catching myself now. Oh, paragraphs of really long sentences, but again, I've improved a lot there. 😆

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Absolutely, as long as I'm confident in the language or have someone who's a native/fluent speaker to help me with it.

18. First fandom you wrote for?

Are we talking wrote for myself, or published? Because I started as a teenager in the 80s, writing your typical Mary Sue self-inserts starring my favorite celebs, like Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran, by hand on notepads...

19. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Nope, still can't choose, sorry!

20. What fic would you want to rewrite one day?

There's one story from my first cowriting experience I mentioned in #12 that I would dearly love to rewrite because the constant POV changes are driving me nuts when I read it now! I don't think there's anything that's currently on my AO3 that I feel the need to rewrite.

WIP Wednesday: The Elysium

2/21/24

Okay to be vulnerable for one moment, it has been what we in the biz call a "shit day." I cancelled my plans and came home right after work, and remembered that you all had asked for more writing. And I didn't want to, but I sat down, and suddenly, I had some writing and wanted to cry a bit less. So thank you for asking; it always means a lot, but this week it meant a little more.

ANYWAY!

Here's Elysium. I plan to add more religions here, but you know. I couldn't bring myself to do research tonight. @skarabrae-stone and @eriquin , I hope youlike it! I'm going to go chase my cat out of the sink now.

“Never mind,” Persie said, shaking her head at me. “No. We keep them. And we get whatever they need from that house, in person.”

I nodded. Of course, it would have been easier to Will their things here. But that could raise suspicion, especially if they needed anything large. Going in person would ensure we could modify small parts of memory to smooth over any issues…but Persephone wanted to go to look this person in the eye. 

Now might be a good time, for legal reasons, to say something about godly boundaries. As a general rule, we leave the afterlife and “heaven” to appear as the relevant religious deity dictates. So a Catholic will see God or Satan, a Buddhist will be reincarnated, etc. Atheists often have a little more leeway, and us Greeks get a lot of them. We’ve become the shepherds of the non-religious. But in general, we stick to our believers or those who we take a personal interest in.

Sometimes, if we need to, we can make a small amount of our domain known. I have been able to since I was born, and when Persie became Queen, she was given certain parts of my domain. In this case, Persie wanted to look into this person’s eyes, because they would have to look into hers. 

And they would see Hell.

They would see everything they think happens to “sinners.” They will see themselves in every nightmare imaginable. They will see eternity, burning, forever. And it would be so much at once, their brains will forget it, but they will remember the fear. They will remember, in their dreams.

Aaron doesn't come to his room that night.

Andrew lays awake listening for a tap against his window.

They both see one another at breakfast the next morning with bags under their eyes but neither of them say a word to one another.

This continues for a week before Aaron knocks on his door again.

*** Eventually their foster parents buy bunk beds. Andrew takes the top bunk because he wants a clear view of their window. Aaron takes the bottom bunk with only mild grumbling.

A year goes by like this with Aaron and Andrew in a room together and they head off to high school. Their foster parents adopt Andrew but leave his name as Doe, Aaron refuses the adoption still waiting for Tilda to get her shit together.

Stevie moved his hand away from his arm. “Don’t scratch it.”

“But it itches!”

Stevie sighed. “Have you touched any poisonous plants?”

“No,” David replied while subtly trying to reach his arm.

“Eaten anything?”

“Just those handpies that Jocelyn made for Abestos Fest.”

Stevie glanced at the half-eaten pie on the counter. “Are you allergic to peaches?”

“I don’t think so. It was a bit tingly when I ate it though.”

“It shouldn’t tingle!”

i’ve written a little bit, but been away from here. so here’s a big ol’ paragraph. and a thank you to @petrodobreva for being the one to mention including Roland in these shenanigans.

"Hey, Dave, what's with the dog?"

David grimaced as he turned to face Roland. "I adopted him, his name is-"

"His name is David," Stevie interrupted, eyes alight with glee. David glared at her. 

Roland leaned down to pet Rothko. "Well, hi there David."

"I didn't name him David, that would be too confusing."

"What's so confusing about that?"

David crossed his arms. "Because my name is David!"

Roland stood up. "I mean we call you Dave so it isn't all that confusing."

David didn't bother looking at Stevie knowing all too well how much she was enjoying this conversation. He decided it was best to finish the conversation as soon as possible. "You're the only one who does that."

"Sounds like now's a good time for everybody else to start doing that since you named your dog David."

David threw his head back in exasperation. "It was an accident on the form. His name is Rothko."

"Oh, like Mark Rothko?"

A fucking course Roland was the one to know that. 

He sighed in relief. "Yes."

"Then why didn't you put that on the form?"

David was in hell. "I got it switched around with the owner's name."

"Does that mean your name is Rothko now?" Stevie interjected. 

He grabbed Stevie's wrist and guided her away from Roland. "As fun as this conversation has been, we need to leave."

What My Favourite Ships Say About Me

I've seen a few "What your favourite (insert X fandom) ship says about you" videos and posts, and thought I'd make my own about some of MY favourite pairings (spoiler - they're all NHS based - big surprise to anyone who follows me >.<), all of which I have written before.

Have seen talk of non-fatal and non-romantic hanahaki and the following beast entered my brain.

Jiang Cheng

He starts coughing up lavender-tinted petals as a child. Everyone thinks it's from an unrequited crush and thinks it's cute and will go away on its own one day. Nobody really notices the petals are the same shade as Jiang Fengmian's robes nor that they get worse after Wei Wuxian is brought to Lotus Pier.

After WWX enters the family, some of the petals start taking on an aqua/teal colouring, and they always come on strongest after a derisive scolding from Madame Yu about how he's not enough and he can't allow the son of a servant to show him up.

The day WWX leaves with the Wen remnants, scarlet-tinted petals join the mix. Eventually Jiang Yanli marries and leaves Lotus Pier and every time she sees JC, her first words are always about WWX or Jin Zixuan - petals of blended purple and gold join the mix.

And then JC is left completely alone with a tiny child in his arms.

He does his best to push through his grief and do his duties to sect and nephew, by now long used to the frequent petals brought up every day.

One day he's holding Jin Ling and the baby says his first word - Jiujiu.

Another day, the nanny brings JL to JC's office and puts him on the ground - the baby gets up onto wobbly legs and takes his first steps, hands reaching out for JC.

And one day JC realizes that the only times he coughs up petals anymore is when he prays at the ancestral shrine, thinking on the family he lost. And even those eventually peter away as time scabs over the wounds in his heart.

By this time, JC knows what the petals meant.

When WWX comes back from the dead, JC fears the petals will come back.

They almost do - for a moment he coughs and feels something in his throat when he watches WWX leave with LWJ... and then Jin Ling is before him, asking if he's all right, all love and concern under a tough/snarky veneer. Just like his uncle.

He never worries about coughing up a petal again.

The Nie traditionally prefer riding horses to flying their sabers. They let the other sects think its for aesthetics or because their sabers are too heavy. In reality, it's because their saber spirits are terrible backseat drivers and never shut up the whole journey.

It's that time again! The Fall 2022 round of Seasonal Spuffy starts on Monday, November 14, and runs through Tuesday, November 28, on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth. (That's Autumn for some English-speakers, and Spring for Antipodeans, BTW.)

The theme for this round is One Hell of a Ride.  As always, the theme exists to inspire, not limit. You are free to interpret the theme however you wish or do your own thing instead. The choice is yours!

Sign up for a posting day by choosing a day in the schedule and leaving a comment on this post ON DREAMWIDTH OR LIVEJOURNAL. (Login is not necessary for that; if you don't see the comment button, keep scrolling.) Posting days are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis.
