Me jumping to any content that includes a celebrity I’m obsessed with in an unhealthy amount:

every time someone says cars 3 is the worst cars movie another angel punches me in the stomach and pulls my hair.

this is probably just my intense special interest in the origins of nascar, but that movie feels like such a nice send-off for the main “trilogy”, and yes people can have their own opinions but i NEED to talk about how much this movie means to me

first of all, a major misconception is that lightning quit racing - he DIDNT! this is proven by both the end of the movie (where he says hes obviously going to keep racing) and cars on the road where, in the final episode, cruz and lightning wish each other “goodbye” and say they’ll see each other on the racetrack. he was only cruz’s crew chief for that one season, presumably healing from the trauma of the crash (because lets be real his ass did not mentally recover from that in FOUR MONTHS) and also waiting for a permanent crew chief to take his place.

second.. the sheer amount of detail put into that movie is INSANE. the racing center being shaped like grandstands at a track? fireball beach being both a direct reference to the daytona beach race course and also “fireball roberts”, a 1950s racer (he was actually the reason that firesuits were mandated in the sport), we meet a bunch of 1950s racers as well and just augh.. so good. also, the detail of thomasville being in north carolina is brilliant - N.C is the “racing state”, and thomasville speedway is based off of north wilkesboro, a track that was opened in 1949, and last used in 1996 (aside from the series of races in 2010), and it fell into disrepair. (fun fact, north wilkesboro is reopening in 2024 for the nascar all star race!! they fixed my bbg)

third. cars three brings so much more lore than the first movie did. yes, we knew doc raced in the 50s when the sport was getting its start, but in cars 3? they brought in characters based off of real 1950s racers (doc is based off of herb thomas, smokey is smokey yunick, lou is louise smith, junior is junior johnson, river is wendell scott, and leroy hemming is tim flock) (another reference in the movie is “jocko flockos party supplies” as macks disguise - jocko flocko was tim flocks pet monkey that was the FIRST and only co-driver in the history of the sport. he won a race with his monkey in the car with him :) )

as i was saying, the lore we learn is insane. we learn that lou and river had to fight for their place in the sport, which is similar to what both louise smith and wendell scott experienced in the 50s, they show us accurately how racing worked back then too - they didnt have fancy pits, they had a fence and a pit member with a sign that would tell them to come in the next lap for service. all of these cars are gen 1 nascar, which means that they were strictly stock - they had much more intense pit sessions than any of the other “built for racing” generations have ever needed. i recall watching a race wherein smokey yunick had to change the radiator of one of his racers vehicles mid-race due to a crash.

this isnt everything, but seriously for an animated movie about talking cars, they discuss grief and hardships and handle them so well its insane. i know cruz isnt everyones cup of tea, but (in reference to the flip scene at the end of the movie) watching cruz get shoved into the sport must’ve been insane for lou to watch. she saw herself in that girl. it wasnt some movie about lightning giving up, it was him sharing the torch with another kid who lost their way just like he had.

also i dont cry at movies but i literally bawl my fucking eyes out at the letters scene every time. its PATHETIC (its not im literally tearing up just thinking about it)

AACKK, THANK YOUU. Error is fun to draw, man. He's such a scrunkly, sassy man, I love him so much. EEY, THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Look at me, man. I wrote a fic with body horror monstrosities that I have no skill to draw. I basically mooch of my frens, Dev and Mirage, to draw them for me at this point lmao. But drawing stuff you do know how to draw is a good stepping stone! :D And who doesn't like cats, man. Error is quite a grumpy, angy person with a fluffy, soft interior so being a cat really fits him ✧˖°. (I kinda want draw them with cat ears and tails now, thanks for that-)

So I finished IT. And omg do I have some notes/complaints/headcanon changes etc.

Things I'm mad the movies robbed us of:

Mike and his dad doing donuts in their pickup truck, Mike's parents in general??? Like they are 1 of the 2 parent pairs I love. Give me the Hanlons damnit.

Ben, Bill and eddie being the start of the losers. Technically Bill and eddie, but the losers started when Ben came. Thanks "asthma".

Stan and Richie being extremely close thay they're usually always together. Literally I love their dynamic. The movie makes it seem like Stan despises him, why??

Bill and richie on silver being chased by a werewolf pennywise wearing a letterman jacket with *tozier* on it. Tell me that shit isn't a fucking metaphor.

Richie being extremely smart, not just a jokester. Letterman jacket cause he's literally so smart.

Ben snorting lemon juice in his nose so the whiskey he drinks doesn't burn his throat. Ben being chaotic and living out of spite in general tbh.

Belch and vics death. I feel like it changed Henry's perspective a bit. Like vic warned Mike. Also where tf is moose and peter??

How terrible butch bowers truly was, we got a lik sample but this man is ugh I hate him.

Wentworth and richies playful father son banter. I would love to see their lil breakfast scene.

Things I'm happy they didn't include:

Hocsketters death, listening to the audio book read it was **hard** I was literally trying not to gag. New fear unlocked.

End of chapter 21-22. Those who know, know why. Ew.

Bill and bev sleeping together even though Bill is married (my bev would never). I didn't like the kiss either. Like ugh.

Mike being in the hospital instead of the sewers. (He belongs with his group) I do hate how they went about it. But I can get past it.

Also lil more stuff I don't understand they took out?

Ben is successful yes, but he's a huge alcoholic due to loneliness. The bartenders know his schedule.

Richie and bev smoke yes, but so does Bill, it's weird they didn't add it?

Stan remembered the losers before the phonecall, mainly Bill, due to the novels. Breaks my heart.

Bill is supposed to be bald, but I love him with hair and a fun lil grey streak. It's cute.

It makes sense they changed how eddie... yeah... but also it's described as somewhat peaceful? Like what?

The "he knew well enough" fuck I'm destroyed.

was thinking about it and realized another Lovely idea for sally !

ocd, right. shes got it. a lot of her intrusive thoughts surround other people, but when her and lightning starr dating nd get married and everything, everything just gets.. so much worse.

every race, all she can think about is him crashing and dying. it’s an impossible thought for her to avoid - i mean, obviously, its an intrusive one - but even after the race is over she Cant shake it. instead, her mind moves onto “what if this is just a hallucination and he really Did crash and die during the race, and im just so grief stricken that i dont realize this isnt real?”

she never brings these thoughts up to him - maybe after he eventually chooses to retire - but she already struggles with the fact they just exist, she couldnt have him being Aware of their existence too.

all race, every race, she sits in the pits with her headphones on and her stomach fills with dread while she watches him drive. she puts her head down, closes her eyes, presses her hand against her heart, and takes deep breaths, and nothing makes them stop. in reality, they just get a hundred times worse as time passes, and she’ll get very physically distressed about it. she taps Her Pattern into anything that makes noise, whether it be the metal of the pit box or just tapping hard into her own skin on her leg, and she Counts. and she does it over and over again because Sometimes it brings her peace knowing that doing this means shes “lessening the chances” of him crashing and getting hurt.

but, like i said, these dont go away easy. after a race, later that night when theyre dozing in the motorhome, she’llmpress her head against his chest and cling to him like a lifeline. sally will fall asleep to the sound of his breathing and his consistent heartbeat, and she Cant bring herself to let go of him.

eventually she does bring these thoughts up to doc, and hes understanding. he tells her theres nothing wrong with it, theyre just Thoughts, and she isnt manifesting anything. it doesnt help much again, but doc wasn’t necessarily trying to tell her its impossible. instead, he picks up on her distress in the pits and teaches her car-lingo so she can understand if lightning is saying somethings wrong with the car. he’ll wrap his arm around her shoulder in that Dad way and promises her nothings gonna happen to him, he’ll be Fine.

imagine when lightning crashes in cars 3 and doc Isnt there to console her.

Remember in 2017 when this was the coolest thing ever? When women and girls put swords down the backs of their dresses because it was cool and fun and made them look awesome? Remember how hyped everyone was for the Wonder Woman movie?
