I love and miss her.
It doesn't seem likely that she'll be integrated into the new DCU films (One can hope though! Absolutely rooting for Jurnee to have a place in it). I'll forever be bummed her solo movie couldn't come out after finally being greenlit.

birds of prey and the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn is such an unironically good movie and the fact that it isn’t taken seriously as a campy and silly action movie that also has serious underlying themes it contends with and morally complex female main characters who make up the cast… it’s like so deeply informed by the fact that the director and the writer of the movie are Asian women and audiences aren’t willing to take certain narratives about women by women seriously enough to even critique. like at least the suicide squad has been ripped apart to shreds but god damn the sexualization of margot robbie is so fucking egregious in all the clips of that movie I’ve ever seen whereas every single aesthetic choice made about Harley’s character design in birds of prey is so intentional, expressive, and fun!! very much a visual embodiment of Harley Quinn and quirky and free as she’s exploring a new independence and sense of self after getting broken up with. and the action scenes?! the fight scenes do not overly rely on guns as weapons (which are a cop out in most action movies imo like what happened to creative ways of depicting killing people???) and utilize choreography and the set and production elements to their full potential. the prison breakout scene with the sprinklers going off??! the funhouse roller skates (and the fact that margot robbie did her own stunts like bro)!! the paintball gun!!! all the delightful one liners— “run piggies run!” “I’m not shopping at this store. I’m robbing this store.” “Paying is for dummies!” EVEN THE FRAMING DEVICE of the whole fucking narrative setup and use of point of view vs. perspective is so brilliant like ugh it’s so underrated

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)
Summary: Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) must protect herself and pickpocket Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from crime lord Roman Sionis, but can't do it alone.
Robbie glue of DCEU, Winstead funny in droll turn, McGregor chews scenery as Sionis… yeah. A lot going for it.

a movie that leaves me awestruck at its sheer craft. a movie about power and what you do with it. a movie about control of your things, of other people's attention, of power, of respect, of your own narrative, of your own fate, and of your own life. a movie about finding community in the most unlikely places, and of trying to be a better person in a cruel world that constantly tries to bring you down to its level. about as perfect as these movies get.
