Nothing like sipping on a cappuccino while scrolling through Pinterest in an old bank turned third wave coffee shop while jazz is at full volume, might as well be a concert hall, and the 3pm chatter filling your ears.

Sparkstember Day 15: 'Christi Haydon IS... The Toughest Girl In Town!'
I was pleased to see Christi credited for photography in the Interior Design liner notes so she that made her a legit candidate for the role in Toughest.

Last night I got to be in the audience for the first live taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in Chicago!
I was all the way up in the top balcony (the sixth level)! When they showed a balcony on TV, that wasn't even the highest one; we were above them (we used to come to the Auditorium Theatre all the time when I was a kid to see musicals and had no idea the theater went up so high haha). We also lucked out because our seats happened to be in the middle (they assign you your seat number right before you go in; someone a few people ahead of us might have been off to the side).
Tickets were free. I completely forgot I even signed up for them until I received an email confirmation two nights before the show (during my birthday dinner).
The process: There were priority tickets and general tickets. Mine were general. The thing is, they deliberately overbook, so if you're in general, it's not a guarantee you'll even get in. You're not allowed to line up before 6pm, so my dad (brought him as my guest) and I got there right before 6 (and of course there were people lining up already). There were two lines: one for priority, which wrapped around the block, and one for general, which was across Michigan Avenue on the Grant Park side. Thank goodness the weather was beautiful *and* it was late enough in the day that the street was in the shade; it was open air above us so if it rained or if we were under direct sunlight we would've been miserable for hours haha. Anyway, priority ticket holders were let in from 7:30-8:30pm, and then from 8:30-9:30pm general ticket holders got to go in. And, obviously, we got to go in! I'm so glad.
The live taping was originally supposed to start at 10:30pm, but the Democratic National Convention went overtime by an hour (they played the DNC on huge screens in the theater and I joked to my dad, "What if this is a trick and there's no Late Show and they're just forcing us to watch the DNC?"), so by the time it was over, it was past 1am. A late show indeed!
What a fun evening! (And a welcome temporary distraction from some family stuff I'll get into in another post.)
You can look up official videos on YouTube etc. I especially loved the Chicago National Anthem cold open!
[Edit: Thank you for retweeting me, Do312!]
