Tessie Earle, the mother of 24-year old lynch victim Willie Earle, of Greenville, South Carolina, appears at a press conference in New York, May 25, 1947. Mayor Jimmy Walker, looking as cheery and confident as ever, enters a courthouse on May 25, 1932. He was questioned by Samuel Seabury, chief counsel for the Hofstadter committee investigating political corruption in the city. Later, 15 charges were levelled against Walker and, under pressure from Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was running for president, he resigned on September 1.
