He's a bug and he lives in space on a bug planet but he really wants to be a starship ranger which you can only be if you are a human and then one day a spaceship lands on his planet and so he goes to an evil bug called Pincer who then helps him become a human. And Bug falls in love with a human on the spaceship and it's very sweet. The musical and storyline are based on the little mermaid story, the creators themselves called it "the little mermaid but in space". Bug wanting to be a human/a starship ranger and achieving that and falling in love with a human is very much like the little mermaid

Starship is a musical that can only be described as The Little Mermaid meets Starship Troopers. It follows Bug, an alien bug who dreams of being a Starship Ranger, a galactic explorer/soldier, but the rigid confines of bug society keeps him trapped in a job he hates. He reaches a Starship Ranger named February from the hive and immediately falls in love with her. In order to be with her and pursue his dream, he makes a deal with a giant scorpion named Pincer who through sci-fi bs gives him a human body. Near the end of the second act he sacrifices his human body and returns to his bug body, and saves the day and wins February's heart. It's truly the ultimate Little Mermaid. He has multiple songs, and his bug body is portrayed by a puppet!! Vote for Bug!!

They are the purest little mermaid adaptation done in the most unuque way. An alien insect gets turned into a human, a race he has always loved and admired, to be with the woman he fell in love with. Also just a great musical.

Bug's whole arc is so so in tune with that of the little mermaid. He is an alien who has fallen in love with humanity through a crashed spaceship and trades his place in the hive for a chance to be with both with the human he's falling for and to be a Starship Ranger. He body swaps with human in a cryogenic pod! It's literally sci-fi Little Mermaid!

Jenny is so beloved to me. She was sent to Sunnydale, California to watch over the vampire that killed her family (Angel), told that he was supposed to suffer for all eternity, but after he saved her life + after she spent some time with him and the people who cared about him, she realized that she'd changed her mind and didn't want anything to do with continuing a mission of vengeance -- especially since Angel's girlfriend Buffy was also the mentee/surrogate daughter of Jenny's boyfriend Giles! Messy! Despite this, when Angel lost his soul and it came out that Jenny had been sent there to watch him, Jenny was immediately blamed, even though she'd had no idea that Angel would turn evil and TOLD everyone as much! She decided to try and find a way to resurrect old magic and give Angel his soul back, and Angel killed her in retaliation. Parts of the fandom talk about Jenny's death like it was necessary/a good thing/a good writing choice, but I don't think it was. Jenny's death is talked about by the showrunners as "proving that anyone could die," and her dead body was placed in Giles's bed, surrounded by red roses, subsequently inspiring him to try to go on a suicide mission and kill Angel. When the kids are looking at a drawing of her dead body, one of them says, "Wow. Poor Giles." Her death is very clearly engineered to raise the stakes by emphasizing how sad it is for Giles to lose her, and before her death, nearly all of her scenes centered around being Giles's girlfriend/love interest. She was never given a chance to develop as a character, and the only backstory they gave her was designed to push her towards death.

Their relationship is literally the best thing about the entire show, Kipo is such a major part of Wolf's development. She went from only ever looking out for herself to learning to care about others. Their dynamic is super adorable as well.

Propaganda for Huey Duck/Wakko Warner:

Huey and Wakko are classic opposite attrack characters, while also touches of "you're drawn to people who remind you of your family" thrown in. They're both very autistic coded characters (because their shows are cowards and refuse to say the word) but in opposite ways. Wakko is very outside of the norm where as Huey holds himself to a strict set of rules. While Huey adds a bit of routine to Wakko's life, Wakko encourages Huey to cut back, go outside of his comfort zone at his own pace and also relax a little. Wakko reminds Huey of both his siblings, excitable and dramatic like Dewey, and laid back (compared to his siblings) and mischevious like Louie, where as Huey reminds Wakko of his own siblings. A bit more uptight and bratty like Dot, and intelligent and encouraging like Yakko. They also bring out different sides of each other, Wakko can be gross and messy and Huey somehow finds it charming, and Huey can help Wakko see that he's intelligent and creative in his own ways rather than being outshined by his own siblings. They both also have anger issues, and Wakko would be great at helping Huey to feel his anger rather than always keeping it hidden away. He makes Huey feel seen and heard and taken care of because Huey doesn't have to be the Older BrotherTM around Wakko. Basically just opposites attract autistic kids who help each other come into one another.

Toy thralls became popular with human children after the Poison War, and remained so into the 13th century. At the same time, thrall makers were developing their own style of toys for their own children.

Almost all thrall toys made by humans depict thralls in major form, in military or labour context (Fig. 1). Both Savic and Brairi cultures hold that major form is the 'true' form of thralls, with minor being something like a disguise or illusion.

Where examples of minor form toys exist, they show thralls with extremely human characteristics, usually males in military uniform. Mutations and deformities are never seen. The aesthetic choices reflect late-War propaganda and illustrated books, which show the hero's companions as idealised 'good thralls'. The trope excludes the vast majority of thrall bodies such as intersex individuals, those with somatic mutations, and those with an average home form.

Exaggerated claws and teeth (Fig. 1) are standard, as are slit pupils (Fig. 1a, b). This last feature has not been recorded in thralls after the first generation created, and even those records are famously inaccurate, yet human media almost always caricature thrall pupils as snake-like diamonds.

Human-made thrall toys are mostly produced either by specialist makers (Fig. 1b) or mass-produced in factories (Fig. 1a, c).

By contrast, toys made by thralls for their own children are made by hand, and use any available materials. Charms such as snake-bone (Fig. 2a) and ribbon (Fig. 2b) are sometimes attached for luck. On the South and East war fronts thralls have more time and freedom, and can make more elaborate carved toys (Fig. 2c)

Unlike the major-form toys for humans, thrall-made toys usually depict an intermediate form between minor and major. This might seem strange; while thralls can achieve intermediate shapes in transition they are not comfortable or possible to hold for long periods. However these shapes are popular with thrall children, who can identify both of their own forms in the doll. Most thralls have no preference for one form over the other, and the idea of one form being true and the other false is at odds with their internal experience.

Among thrall groups toys can be passed down for several generations, and sometimes even between cultures. For example it's not uncommon to find toys on the Savic side of the war fronts made of Brairi dyed felt (Fig. 3b).

A fiercely witty, complex and independent character - she was Always her own woman, only briefly having romantic relationships and it never defined her character for 6 seasons on both Buffy & Angel. Unfortunately the show producer was an abusive misogynist who targeted Cordelia's character specifically for humiliation when her actress Charisma Carpenter became pregnant. He is a colossal dick, and a terrible writer. Cordelia and Charisma deserved better.

Like, maybe I just don't get it. But this isn't even about Russia's current regime. So far as I can tell from glancing at a synopsis, it's a retro future sci-fi 50's AU setting that decides to have its disastrously mad scientists be from the USSR rather than other popular options like the US or Germany. But it should be boycotted because some people involved worked on projects with vague ties to state agencies in the past, they got funding from dubious large corporations, and they *gasp* did a matching retro theme party for the release?!

We should apparently expect the studio to want to both proudly proclaim their connections to Russia (given the current socio-politico climate) and actively denounce the current regime in Russia (given everything about what said regime is like). I think taking a political stance can be brave and powerful, but acting like it should be obligatory is ... something else.

Like, yes, I'm aware there are underlying ties of Putin yearning for ye olde glory days involved in his bullshit invasion. But unless I'm missing something big, this seems to be outrage looking for a reason and/or scapegoats, IMO.
