i don't yet have a vision for a dream garden but i'll share a few pics from pinterest on some ideas that i'd possibly do for a garden if i ever have the time, money and space.

it depends on the place and my mood. mainly i would get a latte but in the summer, i would get it iced or get a frappuccino.

What are your favourite shows? Is there anything specific you like about them?

shows like the simpsons, futurama and south park are 100% my comfort shows - i did have a phase with all 3 that somewhat didn't go away. another one of my favourites is casualty as it is a show i grew up with and never stopped watching after... 10 years i think. i didn't grow up with the sister show, holby city but i started watching it a few years ago and i almost love it as much (shame that holby got cancelled - bbc better be regretting that one).

– I loved Jac being too posh to push Fletch’s car, but at the same time being willing to help him out. I still don’t know if romance is possible between them, or whether I even think that would be a good idea, but I love their friendship.

– It’s also lovely how Holby keeps reminding us of Arthur Digby, with Serena pointing out that one of the F1’s was very much like him.

– Henrik Hanssen is very good at wrapping presents. He’s also very thoughtful with his gift-giving. Despite Roxanna’s reaction, that little brooch that reminded him of her student days said so much.

– Evie and Fletch together are always brilliant, and Macey Chipping is such a good actress. 

– Donna sticking up for Fletch with social services was really nice to see. Donna can be so kind.

– When Serena said that Meena and Nicky needed taking down a peg or 12, I heartily agreed. I was thinking more along the lines of the time Michael Spencerammed little admin guy George Binns’ head towards a corpse though. Maybe I wouldn’t be such a great mentor.

– Essie is apparently going to be ‘head bridesmaid’ for Lofty and Dominic’s wedding. I also want Zosia to come back to be a bridesmaid.

– Hanssen’s face when Dominic told him he was happy. I love how Hanssen cares for his people.

– Jesse Birdsall was well cast as Fletch’s dad. You can see an Essex geezer through-line from him via Fletch down to Mikey ‘Artful Dodger’ Fletcher.

She actually lived in England during the period in which our game is set, so if you have additional questions about the setting she’ll be happy to help you out--

Although keep in mind that this is an alternate universe. As such, specific individual facts and historical events may be different. So don’t worry about getting bogged-down in the details; after all, this is a world in which The Cold War was replaced by The Worldwide Witchunt Wars. There probably was no Cuban Missile Crisis; there may not have even been a Space Race! We’ve left particular historical details vague enough that we can tailor them to suit whatever plot-points we all decide to develop.

So just as with the timeline, view the following as a reference guideline, not a checklist to obey!

Technology:

This is probably the most important one for us, as unlike most Potterverse games we’re actually playing in a world where your character very well might have access to the sort of technology that we take for granted in our current lives -- albeit several generations older than what we’ve got on hand now!

Most computers operate using ethernet cords to connect to the internet, laptops weigh an extremely portable 52 pounds, basically, and camera phones are cutting edge technology. The pictures taken with them are notoriously grainy at this stage and definitely not the crystal clear video we’re used to.

Most mobile phones operate on a “top up” method where you pay for minutes. They’re called track phones in the U.K. Also, most people are paying per text message sent, but it’s still a popular method of communication. You can top up your minutes in most convenience stores and by calling into your provider’s number. There aren’t any smartphones, apps, and other things like that. Public payphones still exist, although they are fading out by this point.

Travel is done by taxi, bus, and tube. Lyft and Uber do not exist. Londoners love the Tube and definitely travel that way frequently. For frequent travelers, Oyster cards are refillable cards that are similar to the Metro cards we use in the US. In fact, 2004 was the first year that Oyster cards existed. They can also be used on the bus and train, but not on taxis.

Please also remember that trains are a popular method of travel for Europeans. They’re also very reliable and a great way to get around. (As for whether people would be comfortable sharing a carriage with someone who’s got stars by their eyes, well...)

As much as it breaks my heart, Manchester United won the FA cup in 2004. (Mod Note: her Erin, maybe in this messed-up world West Ham isn’t a total lost cause? I mean, sport doesn’t have to have happened the same as it did in reality, and we’ve got so many crazy things going on here already -- wealthy Weasleys, werewolf-friendly Blacks, a living Regulus...stranger things could happen, right?)

This will be a painful trip for some of us. After all, I think we’d probably all rather forget that Kelis ever proclaimed that her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. However, it’s a sad fact that she did, and this is the time when it happened!

Now again, we are living in an alternate reality here, so feel free to make up other songs and singers and groups -- both mundane and magical; maybe the Weird Sisters and Celestina Warbeck don’t exist here (and maybe they do) but there are surely still some magical musicians (maybe some taking advantage of the “dangerous” aura their magic grants them, while others might try and downplay it) so please, let your imaginations run wild! Since the standard closing time for a pub is 11 PM, that’s when “Needles” closes. There are after-hours nightclubs, and people probably go to them, but Needles does its last call at 10:45.

Prostitution is not illegal in Britain, but running a brothel is. Basically, a person can sell themselves, but you can’t sell other people. (I just feel like this is useful information.)

Gun Control Laws had banned both automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Rifles were still allowed for those with hunting permits.

ncruuk’s  Bernie Wolfe/Alex Dawson Stories (Holby City) a Reader's Guide & author’s note

I came to Holby City when the BBC trailed ‘Bernie would be a force to be reckoned with‘ and talked about ‘Bringing in Bernie’.  

I started properly writing Holby City Bernie fic (despite my better judgment as I have quite a bit of Kate Stewart fic going on in Dr Who already - more on that over at my Kate/Osgood reader’s guide) after the series 18 episode ‘Prioritise the Heart’ in which the character of Alex Dawson (played by Heather Peace) appeared on-screen and I felt I’d seen something different, special, inspiring even in terms of representation as ‘main text’. I even posted to tumblr about it, with pictures...

From that character ‘magic’ comes my series of stories called ‘Behind the Beret - Being Bernie’ - currently 9 Bernie/Alex completed stories plus one companion (but non-ship) fic (’Said the Spider to the Spider’ aka my take on Bernie deals with the ‘Isaac problem’).

[The alert amongst you could interpret this reader’s guide post as being necessary because I’m still writing Bernie/Alex fic and needed to get my ‘headcanon’ in order *g*]

The problem with writing stories for characters in a show that just keeps rumbling on, is that what might start as a ‘fill in the gaps’ one shot that sits fairly neatly alongside the on-screen canon can kick start a series that throws me in one direction with the characters while the show goes in another.

This series started as exactly that, stories written in between episodes airing during Bernie’s first weeks as a surgeon at Holby...but then the stories took longer to write and the show.... well.  Let’s just say show canon and I went our separate ways after the series 18 episode ‘Missing You Already’ and have never really reconciled.  

This means that there’s no trauma unit, she and Serena are friendly but it’s not #Berena, both her son AND daughter appear but my Cameron is different to the show’s Cameron (I wrote him before the character appeared on screen)...and I’m sure a few hundred other little tiny differences but those are the major ones.

Feel free to bookmark my AO3 profile, but I’ll be maintaining this post as a Reader’s Guide too... So, if you’ve kept with me this far, thanks for giving ‘my’ version of what happens when an RAMC Major and ‘own-trumpet blowing’ best trauma surgeon around gets blown up and into Holby for a while...I hope you enjoy reading my stories.  Do let me know how you find them!

Being Bernie - Behind the Beret Series (9 completed ‘ship’ stories plus a companion, non-ship Isaac-is-doomed story (currently #9 in the series), in total circa 220k word count ... might want to make a cup of tea...)

Looks Familiar, Is Seen to Be New   After Bernie steps in to help calm a patient's seemingly out-of-control family member, Raf and Fletch realise that Ms Wolfe's experiences encompassed much more than answering to 'Major Wolfe' and wearing khaki instead of scrubs. Chronologically, set after ‘A Coward’s Way’ as the can of worms that is Bernie & her history with Alex is now known.   BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Underway & Frosty - not relevant to story

The White Flag is a Good Red   Bernie's makes one final attempt at a peace offering to Serena, only instead of an olive branch, it's more of a grape vine.   Chronologically set after ‘A Coward’s Way’ and before Bernie and Serena were suddenly ‘best friends forever’, sorry, AAU Co-Leads. BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Turning Toxic

In the Wee, Small Hours of the Morning  Supposedly, nothing good ever happens in the early hours of the morning, when it's too close to dawn to still be night, but too close to midnight to be morning.  But it's also in those darkest, hours of the night that people who need to be brave find courage, and people who need to be strong find support.  It's the time when Bernie and Alex find their way back to each other. Chronologically... it’s a bit complicated, but here goes...   Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4  are after ‘The White Flag is a Good Red’ but assumes Bernie has not yet permanently moved down to AAU so is still on Keller. Chapter 5 is the final part of the story arc, as currently written, and chronologically comes after all other ‘Being Bernie - Behind the Beret’ stories and the standalone story - currently . BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done

Unconsciously Brilliant, Consciously Calm A surgeon's skill is best shown with scalpel in hand - it takes a lot to get a surgeon to put down that scalpel, their training and experience give them total focus and confidence to continue with that patient until the surgery's end.But Bernie let go of the scalpel and ran. And no one was surprised, not even Hanssen. Chronologically a non-specific time not that long after chapter 4 of In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.  Bernie is now transferred to AAU - Alex Dawson is not yet a familiar face to Holby.  N.B.  There is no trauma unit.  Repeat: there is no trauma unit... BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done

In the Absence of Grapes, Remember the Ketchup Sequel to 'Unconsciously Brilliant, Consciously Calm' in which Alex naps and chats her way through waiting for Bernie to take her home. In the process she kisses the girl, acquires a nickname and gets the t-shirt... not necessarily in that order! Chronologically follows immediately on from Unconsciously Brilliant, Consciously Calm. BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done

In the Absence of Raspberry Ripple, a Burger Will Do Had she known in advance what was going to happen the day she wore her beret to work at Holby General, Bernie might have elected to not worry about her paperwork. But that wasn't Bernie's style - she always did her paperwork, just as she always had the burger....and Alex? She had Raspberry Ripple and Bernie... Chronologically follows on from ‘In the Absence of Grapes, Remember the Ketchup’ and is set in over a period of a few weeks from mid June ish onwards. BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done but it was messy, there were lies told (by Marcus), wounds allowed to fester (thanks to Marcus) and it’s all a bit messy and not right...but this is a ncruuk fic so keep faith :-)

Boiler or Helicopter?  It’s a matter of Perspective...  For Bernie and Alex, this would be remembered as 'the weekend the boiler was broken' as, for them, that was the 'something different'.Which, in and of itself, wouldn't have been that remarkable were it not that everyone else would remember it as something quite different, starting with a helicopter...  The Royal Marines were almost incidental.  Almost. Chronologically it happens during the cold bit between the end of summer (which can be any time between April and October to be honest) and Christmas. BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done and dusted.

Memories of Old Experienced Anew Christmas is often a time when new memories are made, but for Bernie and Alex, it is also a time when the wounds of old memories can heal and dreams shared in the heat of a desert can come true. Chronologically it....happens at Christmas. BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done, ghosts buried, new bonds with the likable bit of her family (her children) made.

Said the Spider to the Spider [Not a Bernie/Alex Ship fic] "Come into my Parlour," said the Spider to the Fly... It hadn't occurred to the Spider that the Fly might have a friend.Isaac Mayfield was a very talented catcher of flies, with Dom Copeland being his latest prey. In her time in the Army, Major Wolfe had met more than her fair share of confident predators whose very success depended on keeping others under their spell. She too was a talented catcher...but not of flies. She went for the spiders who caught the wrong flies. Chronologically sits in a non-specific ‘spring’ period during Bernie’s time in Holby, which currently makes it story 8 in the series as spring allegedly, for the Northern Hemisphere at least, follows Christmas... BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done, thanks for asking, but completely irrelevant to the story which is not a Bernie-ship fic ONE OFF ISAAC STATUS: Done for.  You’re welcome :-D

The Migratory Flight of a Flightless Bird....or why the answer should always include Penguins [Back to Bernie/Alex Ship fics :-D ] The time has come for Major Wolfe to come to attention and take a decision about her future... a future Bernie's already worked out really needs to have Alex in it to be a future worth living...which just leaves one question: where in the world is there an opportunity for a Major and her anaesthetist to have their happy ever after? Currently, it’s the last story in the series before  the epilogue chapter (chapter 5) of In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning. Chronologically, we’re still in that non-specific ‘spring’ period.... BERNIE DIVORCE STATUS: Done, ghosts buried, new bonds with the likable bit of her family (her children) made. 

Relocating Happiness: Penguins not included Bernie's shift is over, their bags are packed: it's time for a Major and her Captain to fly south and begin their next joint adventure, together in their happy bubble.[Immediate chronological sequel to 'In the Wee Small Hours...' chapter 5, series sequel to 'The Migratory Flight of a Flightless Bird....or why the answer should always include Penguins' (story 10 of the series). It won't make much sense if you haven't read those to stories as a minimum]. Missing girl swims across lake to escape kidnappers after 29 days of abuse: police

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. – She is “an unbelievable young woman.” That’s what a police chief had to say after a 15-year-old girl escaped from captors who allegedly assaulted her over the course of a month.

The teen reportedly left her home in Alexandria, Minn., on Aug. 8 with a family acquaintance who said he needed her help, reports the Echo Press.

When she arrived at Thomas Barker’s home in Carlos, however, she encountered a “nightmare,” says Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels. Barker, 32—soon joined by his roommate and later a friend—restrained the teen with zip ties.

At no point over the next 28 days was she left alone as she was physically and sexually assaulted and moved to a cornfield and then a home on a lake in Grant County, Wyffels says.

But on the 29th day, the 15-year-old saw an opportunity to escape. When her captors left to get lunch on Tuesday, she escaped and “bravely ran door to door” without finding help, Wyffels says.

Finally, she swam across the 150-acre lake to a property and encountered its owner, who’d just returned from work because he’d forgotten something. “It was like somebody shined a big beam of light on me,” the man tells WCCO.

“I was in the right place at the right time.” Just as police arrived, the teen—later treated for minor injuries, per NBC News—spotted a car belonging to one of her captors whom police quickly apprehended, the property owner adds.

All three alleged captors are now in custody. Barker; Joshua Holby, 31; and Steven Powers, 20, are each held on probable cause for false imprisonment, kidnapping, and assault.

Wyffels says authorities are still trying to determine a motive.

Netflix produce la adaptación canadiense (en la cadena CBC) de 'Anne of Green Gables', conocida en España como 'Ana de las Tejas Verdes', una novela de Lucy Maud Montgomery (1908) que se ha convertido ya anteriormente en miniserie y en serie animada. Anne Shirley -interpretada por Amybeth McNulty, que fue elegida entre 1889 chicas- es una niña huérfana con una imaginación desbordante que es adoptada por error por una pareja que quería a un chico. Completan el reparto Geraldine James (Little Britain, Utopia), R.H. Shonda Rhimes se basa en la novela de Melinda Taub (2013) para contarnos qué pasa tras la muerte de Romeo y Julieta. Lejos de solucionar los problemas entre los Montesco y los Capuleto, esta muerte crea nuevos conflictos e intrigas palaciegas.
