In an effort to practice my smut writing, I am participating in @kinktober2023!! Everyday I'll post a ficlet (500 words exactly) with a different ship and a different kink.

Fair warning to anyone horny enough to read them, some contain dark/disturbing topics (i.e. rape/non-con, underage, vore, emeto, etc.). I will try to include any relevant info and warnings before each story, but just be advised. I also took the prompts very loosely, and some of the stories don't contain smut, only the build-up to it (I ran out of words, oopsies). These will be a mix of common ships, rare pairs, and my personal blorbos. I tried to include a good mix!

✦ what was your easiest fic to write & your hardest?

The easiest fic for me to write was Whisper a Dangerous Secret, because all I did was come up with a silly little ficlet, and then ectogeo did all the work of turning it into a whole real story with feelings and stakes! My tendency historically has been to say that whatever multichapter fic I finished most recently was the hardest, but I think the award is still held by I Will Choose Free Will, because it cut deep to my own fears about mortality and what it means to make a meaningful life.

✿ did anything major change when you started writing [fic] to when you finished? - For 'Terok Nor AU'

For the whole series? So so much! It was supposed to end with the arrival of the Federation, but everyone kept leaving such delicious comments and giving me more and more ideas about how to keep it going. Julian and Garak were also supposed to have successfully gotten together already, but every time I sat down to write the scene where it was meant to happen (and it was meant to have happened multiple times by now), I found myself reveling in the tension and angst instead. Originally, I hadn't even decided if it was Section 31 specifically that Julian was running from, and now I've got Sloan running around in season 1! It keeps surprising me, but that's become part of the fun.

Ooh, I haven't thought about this fic in a little while, thank you for inviting me to return to it. I'm going to go with...

Once he could have withstood it, but that was before Tain sent an assassin after him and Mila thought that Tain was the one who needed saving, before Tain dangled redemption in front of him along with Mila’s life, before Tain died finally and forever and Garak realized he would never return home and Mila’s face on a viewscreen was the only family he had left.

Which is really angsty, but I like the rhythm of that sentence for reasons I can't articulate.

I'm also delighted to be reminded of this fic in tandem with the Terok Nor AU series, because you reminded me that I had once intended to add a one-shot of canon Julian meeting his Terok Nor AU self!

↻ pick a fic and a different ship and I’ll tell you how I’d rewrite it - 'Necessary Storms' for Kira/Ezri!

Now this is interesting! Kira wasn't in that fic, so the first big question is how to get her there. It's possible she and Ezri are married, and she's become a Starfleet Spouse in parallel to Garak, but I don't see her easily agreeing to leave Bajor to join a starship. Unless, again parallel to Garak, something has forced her to leave Bajor, maybe a political push she couldn't agree with? Like a return to d'jarra? Or maybe her past ties to Odo or something have made her unpalatable to the masses, or maybe there's another isolationist movement and she's too close to the Federation... It's an interesting question to consider, but for these purposes let's keep her with Bajor and have something bring her to Trill. I could see her as already in a relationship with Ezri before the story starts, joining to investigate maybe because Ezri has gone incommunicado and she's worried? Or she also gets kidnapped like Julian because she was close to Dax and knows about the symbiosis commission's secret. Then she and Ezri are in captivity together, and maybe that could provide the space and push for them to admit feelings for each other... Or, if I were really going to restructure the story, maybe what I'd do is have the crew request Kira's help as an expert in resistance movements, to infiltrate or otherwise interact with the uprising, to help rescue Julian and Ezri. And then Garak and Kira have to team up to save their partners.

This is a really fun question to consider, thanks for asking it!

What fandoms do you write for? The last year has been Mass Effect only, but I have a few Dragon Age and Greedfall pieces as well. And there might be an Anthem ficlet? I can't remember.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Almost always. I really enjoy getting comments and even though I get incredibly anxious to respond because even though I feel like an imposter to be like "OMG THANKS!!!" I am truly thankful for the time they took to not only read, but to reach out, too.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Unharrowed; but only because it's plotted out to be a trilogy. So the first book ends with a high level of angst. Unfortunately, the one that's currently published to AO3 is not only unfinished, but also COMPLETELY different from the re-write I'm working on.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Masquerades & Mysteries, but technically it's not done yet. Because...I feel way too intimidated to finish the story, because in truly 10K story fashion, it ends with a smut chapter. And I don't really do that.

Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten some...disappointing comments that paraded under the false pretenses of "constructive criticism" but as they were from strangers, it mostly just felt like criticism. But only on Unharrowed which makes sense because Unharrowed (the version that's published on AO3) is very weak. It was my first story coming back from a 15 year hiatus of writing fiction (I'd been too busy writing academic research papers). And...you can tell.

Do you write smut. If so what kind? I do, but usually fade-to-black scenarios before it gets explicit. I have one story that I wasn't planning on fading to black, and it has been sitting in limbo for like 3 years because I'm too intimidated to try and write it.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I don't do DIRECT crossovers, but I will definitely take pieces of other fandoms and just apply them to my own. I haven't written it yet, but I do have a pretty wild pseudo-crossover planned. It's the plot of House of Ashes by Supermassive, but instead of the HOA characters, they're all the characters from Mass Effect.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, but that's probably because every single fic I have published so far is only half done. And also because I have a couple dedicated readers, but I don't advertise my writing very often (not advertise, but things like blogging the links)

Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever cowritten a fic before? I've never co-written, but I've had the opportunity to give my input while beta-ing my best friends Dragon Age fic.

What's your all-time favourite ship? I can choose favorites in each fandom, but probably not all time. Kaidan and Shepard have been reining supreme lately though.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I am uncertain I'll ever finish Unharrowed. I had planned on writing 50k of it this year for NaNo, but due to health issues, I have chosen to not participate in NaNo this November. Hopefully I can still crank out 50K in April during camp.

What are your writing strengths? Plot. My plots are banger. Dialogue sounds pretty natural, I think.

What are your writing weaknesses? CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Which sucks, because you can have a weak story, that people will still love if your characters are strong. And my character aren't weak, but they are not dynamic. They don't tend to grow. Hopefully, realizing that about myself over the last year, maybe I can change that.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I don't mind if it makes sense storywise, or if it's a nickname for another character. But in general, I think it just creates more work for the reader, which isn't always a good decision.

First fandom you wrote for? Ever? Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place way back in 2002. It still gets a few likes every couple years and it startles me lol but it's on FF.Net, not AO3. The first for AO3 was Dragon Age.

Favourite fic you've ever written? It's not done, but The Hot Zone is definitely one of my favorites.

Answering these made me realize I really need to finish a story. Like..badly. Lmao they're all half drafted or half edited or just pseudo-abandoned.

This ficlet ended up going in a different direction than originally anticipated, but that's 1x07 for you. I interpreted the prompt in a less literal way, but I hope you like it!

The queen will depart at dawn, the young soldier tells Galadriel, but she requests an audience with the commander first. Galadriel crosses the camp clad in a simple gown which had been a gift of the woman who summons her. Near Míriel’s tent Elendil holds council with one of his lieutenants. The men stand close together, their voices low and their faces weary. The younger man nods to Galadriel in acknowledgment as she passes by, but Elendil, arms held stiffly at his sides, will not meet her gaze. Galadriel is glad of it for the moment. She knows what she would find there.

Míriel’s tent is cold and empty apart from the bed on which she rests. Her belongings have been packed away and transported to the ships already. The queen sits with her hands clasped in her lap, a solemn expression on her face. She has not yet applied her bandage when Galadriel approaches. Despite the low light, the fierceness in her sightless eyes causes Galadriel to catch her breath. There is a tempest now in Míriel, too.  

Míriel turns her face upwards and reaches towards her silently, trusting Galadriel is near despite her silent tread. Galadriel takes her hand. They do not speak, though each passing moment strengthens the vow they had made on the hilltop.

Míriel kisses her first, her touch firm and eager, and Galadriel responds in kind. They had shared a bed twice before, once in Númenor, and once aboard the ship. The first time had the thrill of danger, like a sparring match against an unfamiliar opponent. They had circled each other, certain of nothing but the spark they shared. The second time had been a different sort of thrill. They were more known to each other, both full of joy and excitement for the battle to be waged. This time is different again. There is no joy, but there is an understanding which transcends words.

The queen uses her hands to instruct Galadriel the way she had used her gaze during their last congress. Galadriel cannot deny she carries a guilt for this. As if in penance, she finds herself on her knees. She cannot issue peace with words—it is not a strength of hers, even were she able to summon them in this moment—but instead uses her tongue in other ways. Míriel’s breath catches as she laces her fingers through Galadriel’s hair. She does not need to guide her any longer, for Galadriel is as confident in this as her sword skill, but rather holds her with a desperate tenderness that causes the tears to spring to Galadriel’s eyes.

They lay together for a time afterwards. Galadriel had removed her armour for the first time in days when she’d washed after the battle, and the lightness in her limbs had made her feel vulnerable until now. Now, laying beside Míriel, she is sure that their paths will cross again, and they will rise to meet their enemy, this time victorious. 

Elendil joins them when the queen summons him. It is he who secures the covering for Míriel’s eyes. Still, he will not look at Galadriel directly. She has heard of his tragedy—her heart aches for him. But she will not force her pity on him. She knows that he understands her loss, he must know she understands his. They will have time to reconcile. For now, she must secure an army, draw battle plans. 

Galadriel exits the tent first. She will ready herself for the journey, her armour and weapons. It will require steel of a different type when she approaches the high king.

She has faced worse.

The war was over. Cody was... adjusting. Just like all his brothers, to their new roles as Citizens of the Republic. They'd all been given housing, across few different neighborhoods with spare buildings. Cody wasn't sure how one could have a spare building. All those planets, and every single one of them had been in need of more buildings, for one purpose or another.

But he wasn't going to question this one.

Especially not when it allowed for his head to be resting on the one person's lap he'd never let himself imagine.

(He'd imagined it so much in the beginning, when he'd had more hope. Towards the end, really every moment after those first couple months, the ache was too painful, too deep and holding too much of who he was and who the man he loved was, the truth of their positions, of what their purposes were. He'd had to make himself stop.)

The war was eight months away. Eight months that had brought many things to Cody's life. Brothers upon brothers, foods that filled the whole floor of apartments with rich smells, a few actual flimsy books, and lately, Obi-Wan himself, sat just like he was now. His right hand rested on Cody's waist, his other holding onto a datapad that was slowly slipped from his grasp. Cody reached up to slide it from Obi-Wan's fingers before it could thunk onto the floor.

Obi-Wan's head twitched where it was bent, resting against the back of the couch. His snoring was interrupted but a snort and Cody held very, very still, arm still outstretched. Obi-Wan's right hand flexed on Cody's side, then he relaxed again, snores filling in the room again. Cody let out a breath and slid the datapad down and readjusted himself, smiling softly at the way Obi-Wan's snores reverberated through his stomach onto the back of Cody's head.

If this was his life now, then maybe it was something Cody could hope for.

Vox is another ship I'm not used to writing, however I do love reading Vox, so I'll try it out!

31. I love the way your face lights up when someone says, “It might be dangerous.” (I am glad we are friends.)

Fox was finishing up the last of the paperwork he was forcing himself to get through when the swish of his office door pulled his head away from the glare of the datapadd light. 

Quinlan stood just inside the door, fiddling with his lightsaber. His eyes didn’t leave the hilt as he took the handful of steps across Fox’s tiny office until he was right next to Fox. Fox couldn’t help the small smile that broke onto his face. A focused and quiet Quinlan was always interesting.

“Quin?”

Quinlan grunted but nudged Fox’s chair with his hip. Fox let his grin grow just a bit, slowly reaching up to slip the lightsaber from Quinlan’s grip. No matter how long it’d been since Quinlan had first trusted him with it, with his life, Fox still felt the power of the weapon in his hands. 

He’d asked Quinlan once, if it mattered that he wasn’t Force Sensitive. If it made things harder on him, his partner not being able to feel the same way he could. Quinlan had said it was a blessing. Fox felt so deeply, so thoroughly, in ways Quinlan had never been able to. Quinlan felt deeply, but in different ways. All that energy all the time. It was a lot. Coming back to a partner who felt so viscerally on a purely emotional level was a breath of fresh air.

Fox had thought he’d gone a little poetic on him, but he appreciated what he was trying to say.

Grabbing his toolset from a drawer, Fox began working on a couple screws as Quinlan sat on his desk. They didn’t need to say anything to each other. A few moments later, Fox handed the lightsaber back to Quinlan. Quinlan ran his calloused fingers over the screws, the panels, then in one swift movement slid off the desk and ignited the saber. 

It still took Fox’s breath away.

Quinlan pressed a kiss to Fox’s cheek as he spun into the most open area of Fox’s office, running through a few sets of exercises. 

“I’m going on a mission tomorrow,” Quinlan said, voice steady even as his movements were swift and ceaseless. “I could use some help and you could use a day out of the office.”

“And how are you going to be framing this mission, Quinlan?” Fox laughed. “You need extra protection, so you’re bringing along the Commander of the Guard, of all clones?”

He knew he wasn’t keeping his amusement out of his voice.

Quinlan turned, locking eyes. “It’ll be dangerous, so yes.”

Fox’s grin was all the answer Quinlan needed.

Cody had stopped going into town after the first time. There had been so many troopers wearing armor so similar to the armor that had given him protection throughout the war, that had been so important to so many brothers who were now fallen. Cody knew most of those helmets hid faces not like his, faces of desperate or evil citizens of the Empire. Even so, every voice from those helmet modulators made his heart squeeze in his chest, and by the time he returned to the hut, he hadn't been able to regulate his breathing or stop the tears from falling.

So he stayed and Obi-Wan went. But Obi-Wan was late, six days late. Late meant trouble, which meant the Empire, which meant Ben being found out and everything that had just started to fall into place would--

A silhouette breached the horizon, cresting a dune to the east.

The war had scarred him, mind soul body, but Cody ran out to meet Obi-Wan as fast as he ever had. Obi-Wan didn't use the Force any more, pushed it away as much as he could, but he must have sensed Cody's relief because he was running to meet him too, arms outstretched.

Their bodies clashed and they whirled around, kicking up sand and nearly tipping over the side of the dune. Obi-Wan's hands enveloped Cody, pressing against his ribs and around his waist. Obi-Wan's shaking breath rushed in and out between soft. chaste kisses pressed to Cody's ear. Cody's own hands were shaking where they ran through Obi-Wan's hair, as grey and disheveled as it always was. Cody's own breathing came slower with each pass through Obi-Wan's hair, and in time they were breathing in tandem. Obi-Wan squeezed the back of Cody's neck, and apology, and together they retreated back to their hut.

Ok so in my opinion:

Cody-- Cody is steady. He's a very steady, ready presence who thinks things through down to the smallest detail bc lives are on the line and he can't risk them any more than he's forced to. He's not cold, which is a weird characteristic I've seen attributed to him. I consider him very emotionally intelligent. This is largely due to the fact that he's both an eldest sibling and a commander. He's gotta know what the vibes are and also how to interact with the vibes. He's very intelligent emotionally and otherwise. I think in an effort to explore his childhood, people make him shut-off and overly guarded. Not to say he would throw himself into anyone's arms, but I think sometimes people make him oddly closed. He was profoundly affected by how he was raised, but he's taken it in stride and is very much a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps guy (even if he barely has bootstraps to begin with) and so that when he does begin to process it I don't think it'd present in the ways some people present it. If that makes sense. He needs to have a rock to rely on as much as others need him to be their emotional touchstone.

Obi-Wan-- Obi-Wan is based on faith and hope. People water these two things down and wildly misconstrue what faith is. Faith doesn't make you stupid or naive. Faith and enduring hope, even when his happiness is gone, is what makes up who Obi-Wan is. I think when put into romantic contexts, the aspect of Obi-Wan gets diminished or erased. He gets really bumbling, and I don't feel this is really part of who he is. Like, letting him have a little bit of human-ness, like having messy quarters or losing things doesn't mean he's suddenly this spacey, nearly childish character. I do like those traits! But in balance and proportion with his core character.

Dynamic together-- I mean I just dislike when ppl make one dominant over the other, especially when it's Cody. And I mean generally dominant, not necessarily sexually (that's not my area of fic-expertise so while i'm assuming the dominance trope gets brought up a lot in those fics i may be wrong). To me, they're balanced because both understand their duties. Obi-Wan's dedication to his family is strong, but his faith has had to be stronger, and this allows him to understand why Cody must put his vode above everything. Both had screwy childhoods but didn't think it was necessarily effecting them until much later. To me they have a grounded, calm dynamic. Not to say they can't be a force to be reckoned with- obviously, having fought together and leading thousands (i think thousands is correct) of vode into battle. And them surviving together, throughout the war and, in my preferred canon, beyond the war, bonds them deeply as well. I think that people give them an opposites-attract dynamic when it's really a similar-similar dynamic

I’m keeping your Harringroveson prompts in my ask box so I don’t lose them, but at the moment I like thinking about a fusion of ideas (from Anonymous🌹 and @a-redharlequin 🌹) : 

• a/o/b where they genuinely are a/o/b. we do not get enough of alpha/beta/omega triads in my professional opinion.

• Billy and Eddie became friends and went on a trip from Hawkins to Indianapolis for Billy's 18th birthday. They go to a popular bar at night and find out Steve sings there.

My spin on it is that Steve is alpha but he’s asexual. Eddie and Billy are very sexually involved with each other and overall, these three defy their gender stereotypes. Eddie’s a beta who swings wide in both soft omega and domineering alpha territory. Billy’s an omega, but no one can really tell because Billy Acts Like That, the chaotic boy.

They find Steve being a romantic hunk on stage and lay the moves on him, but they’v encountered Steve in a rough patch. He’s tired of being a service top and just tired of sex in general because the boy needs romance. He wants to be in love.

Billy and Eddie are swinging and missing in their attempts to get with Steve and it would honestly be hilarious because this is still King Steve, for crying out loud. He’s the prettiest alpha within fifty miles, probably more. He knows what they’re doing. Hell, he even likes it, having two groupies show after show. He likes Eddie’s gangly movements and clumsiness. He likes the way Billy looks at him, makes his tummy go all molten; especially when those groggy blue eyes shock comically awake at something Steve said so the bravado vanishes.

Maybe Steve swats at Billy’s dangly earring because he feels a compulsion to touch.

Maybe Steve licks the candy necklace Eddie wears during the Valentine’s show.

Basically just because Steve is ace, doesn’t mean he isn’t King, and Billy and Eddie have their work cut out for them when it comes to learning affection outside of the bedroom.

My #1 post of 2022

Thinkin’ about a Steve who just doesn’t understand why Billy and Eddie are friends. Steve and Billy have finally established something like friendship, but right as Steve is finally itching for Billy’s attention, affection, anything - Billy starts spending more time with Munson.

Billy’s not giving up the goods, and Steve is starting to think that he looks as pathetic as he feels, vying for Billy’s attention. Maybe Billy finally understands, or at least takes pity on Steve after Steve makes a nasty remark to/about Eddie. Billy always liked King Steve, but Steve’s put the crown to rest, so the venom is really out of left field.

Somehow, Steve finds himself in Eddie’s trailer. He probably went to apologize, but Billy shows up for some weed. Eddie is a forgiving person and offers Steve some shrooms as a token of peace. Steve isn’t a psychedelics kind of guy, which prompts Eddie to be like, “Then you have to enjoy them here. The big guy and I will watch over you.”

Eddie fails to inform Steve that shrooms are more than an hallucinogen, they take a person’s emotional dial and crank it up to a hundred.

Fast forward to Steve being extremely emotional over the amount of mugs in the trailer and disappearing to Eddie’s room to try and sleep it off. It’s a small place, so even blitzed as they are, Eddie and Billy exchange looks of wonder at King Steve crumbling into a puddle. They give him a few minutes before following into Eddie’s room, where Steve’s crying and whining about how Billy doesn’t love him, just led him on and then left him out to dry. How, if Eddie just liked sports, he’d have the whole school eating out of his hands and is far more King material than Steve has ever felt.

The metal heads realize they have a steaming pile of a bisexual crisis on the bed and Eddie chimes, “How’d you guys do in geometry?”

Steve only buries himself under a pillow and Billy squints at him like, What the hell are you talking about?

“Well a three-way takes some expertise in angles.”

“Does that look ready for his first time with dick, to you?”

Eddie sighs as he climbs over Steve to take the side of the bed against the wall. “You can be the light he sees after a bad trip, or you get hit the road. Sounds like that’s what he’s used to already.”

That gets some possessiveness out of Billy, and they both sandwich Steve on the bed, like bowling alley bumpers while his body finishes the trip.

It’s like waking up from a dream. A terrible dream that has Steve’s body feeling like he was in a car accident. Crying is hard work, but Billy’s lips are soft. Eddie’s hair is softer, and he smiles when Steve blurts as much.

“All mine, sweetheart. No crunchy curls here.”

“Hey,” Billy growls, but he can’t be mad with the way Steve shivers.

26 but 10 of those are short writer's month prompt ficlets, so it's not as many as it sounds, especially if i actually do get to all 31 ficlets. so, like 16 with a ficlet series?

What’s your total AO3 word count?

108,920! i was kind of shocked. that's a not-bad amount of words for someone who is still somewhat uncomfortable being a fanfic writer.

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

6-7 - the magnus archives has the most atm; adventures in odyssey; mcu in general and the loki tv show specifically; taz balance; spn; and merlin. no, i'm not a child of 2013 tumblr, what are you talking about. spn and merlin are only short gen character studies, though, nothing intense.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

by FAR the most popular is my first tma fic, will your system be all right, the michael-has-misophonia study. 105 kudos!

Steadfast In the Broken Binding, also a tma fic, jonmichael slowburn set in a tma-ified version of the binding by br*dget c*llins (it also has 18 subscribers!!)

Perhaps I Had a Wicked Childhood, the steveloki time travel-ish fic

Variation On an Enemy, mcu fic with steve and loki but nonshippy/pre-relationship, set in the tva

5th place is tied between the devil gave me a crooked start and I Am Not the Only Traveler, which are both richard maxwell-centric aio fics. i am, as always, in love with my aio fic readers and kissing them on the mouth/wherever they are comfortable with/blowing them air kisses/shaking their hands sincerely. imagine a fandom 0.5% the size of mcu's and still much smaller than tma's but there are so many generous readers that the fics are still some of the most-kudos'd fics i have. j'adore.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

hmmmmm possibly you cannot kill me in a way that matters? that's the taako&merle taz balance fic set on the mushroom planet. one of my favorite kinds of flashback fics, in which POV Character starts out unhappy, takes on step towards healing, then takes a hasty two steps back!

it's possible my Sad Michael-POV TMA Standalone Fics Trilogy (will your system be all right, The Monster In the Impossible Halls, and In the Sweet Spot of the Throat) are the angstiest, but i feel like angst is expected in tma fics so it doesn't count as much. Sweet Spot does end jon and michael dying in each other's arms, though, so ymmv.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

crossovers are my favorite thing to write. they generally get me excited to write the most, bc i am still largely uncomfortable writing fanfic, so there's a layer of protection, almost, in putting familiar characters in different-but-still-familiar situations. it frees me up to focus on character and plot rather than endlessly worrying about canon details. i do usually only do the kind of crossover where i use the chars from Property A in the world of Property B, with no actual character crossover. i'm not up to writing richard maxwell and michael shelley interacting......................... yet.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

nope! almost certainly never will. i've written 2 smutty ficlets for my own original fiction and while it was interesting and i liked how one of them turned out, it also made me sort of uncomfortable, as an ace person and as someone who's never experienced it anyway. i read it for some ships, and unfortunately it's impossible not to learn the language of smut fics even without reading them, but i get embarrassed even publishing works with kissing in them because i can never tell if the verisimilitude is there. it's very hard for me to judge the authenticity. i can see myself maybe one day writing a vaguer M-rated fic but it's just not something i have any interest in writing or frequently reading right now.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

i try! it usually takes me a bit, as in anything requiring human communication, but i do appreciate comments so i try to thank ppl for them

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

in my darker moments i worry that i will never finish Steadfast In the Broken Binding because i just updated it for the first time in over a year. and by "just" i mean, like, two months ago. but i really really want to, and i have a lot of half-formed ideas for how it's going to go, along with a pretty firm ending.

i REALLY doubt i'll ever finish tuesdays in the park with steve. i thought it'd be easy! but it's not! it's not something i should be this worked up over making sure it makes sense, since i am in no hurry to return to this particular crossover after the "mystery spot" spoof is over! but here! we! are! the next chapter is just going to always be half-written in my fic folder i guess

What are your writing strengths?

fuck me if i know. the most consistent compliment i've been given is that my character voices are authentic, which is my favorite compliment because staying true to the characters i love is, at the end of the day, all i care about, so that's nice

What are your writing weaknesses?

plotting, especially clarity. devastating first comment on Perhaps I Had a Wicked Childhood was that they ended up liking it but still didn't really know what was going on. quelle horreur. pacing is sooooo important to me as a reader but it's not something i've mastered as a writer. sometimes i give into the temptation to force the plot to go where it needs to go, and that's not good!!! i just get impatient. :/

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

if you know the language well enough to demonstrate your character's actual fluency in it, go nuts!

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

adventures in odyssey! tbh that's why the devil gave me a crooked start has so many kudos, it's been around several years longer than the others (2017).

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

it's hard to choose !!! will your system be all right is still really meaningful to me but it's sloppier than i would write it now (it was a vent fic and i published it without proofreading it really at all).

Perhaps I Had a Wicked Childhood, on the other hand, i always remember as sloppier than it actually was, and every time i actually reread a bit of it i'm really proud of it, at least stylistically.

you cannot kill me in a way that matters is, imho, one of my best works when taken as a whole and it kind of kills me that it barely cracked 100 hits. i know why it didn't, ofc, but still. i forget i wrote it sometimes but then i remember and my heart just goes <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

i am going to challenge myself this year!! i found 2 different prompt lists- one with dialogue, and one with spooky concepts- and i am going to combine them. they are both 31 entries long SO the idea is that i will write a lil blurb/ficlet thing every single day in october

how i think i'm going to Assign the people it's written about will be like. damiano monday, victoria tuesday, etc etc, with poly ships for the weekends (like fridays would be ethan x reader x victoria). maybe? idk i'm still deciding

Came across an interesting post about posting short ficlets as a multi-chaptered work or splitting them into separate works in a series. I'm planning to do Kinktober this year, so I'm curious what the general consensus is for posting daily ficlets. On the one hand, they all fit a similar theme in my mind (i.e. Kinktober 2023), but each ficlet is a different ship and different topic, so I can see how an individual work for each day would be nice. But then I'd be flooding my AO3 profile with 31 works in October. I also do more than one daily prompt fest each year, so my profile will quickly become overrun with short works.

WIP Update - 6 Apr 2022

A little light on the writing this week, due mostly to being away over the weekend. I touched 5 fics (2 WIPs & 3 new works) for a total of  2118 words.   I posted the next chapter of my Stuckony Star Wars AU  over on Ao3 and combined an @agonyapril2022​  and @flashfictionfridayofficial​ prompt for a platonic (?) WinterHawk ficlet  that I may massage into something for the WH bingo. 

I’m up to 11 active WIPs  (with a couple of maybe TBCs)  with my current   deadline being the WinterHawk Bingo which wraps up the end of April.  

On the crafting side, I have  three Stuffed With Character commissions  slots open for April at the moment.

Never More to Go Astray  (Stuckony Star Wars AU)

The Muse is poking me to make this a longer fic with at least 6 chapters to get through two rounds of POVs.  Huge thanks to RudeArrow, who  is doing an AMAZING job of brainstorming and beta’ing with me!!   Chapter 4 was posted on Friday.  and Chapter 5 (Bucky POV)  is sitting at 400 words. Current Last Line:   “How come I’m the errand boy?”  

Going All In - IronBones Ficlet

After responding to @kahuna-burger‘s rarepair shipping ask,  the Muse whispered in my ear and I’m currently  945 words into a smutty ficlet where a young!Tony gets his aggressively flirty bluff called by  a junior SHIELD agent who is clearly not as straight as anyone (including himself) thinks.  If all goes well, I plan to get this posted by the end of the month.

WinterHawk Bingo - Round 3 [WHB_R3] (Runs thru 30 Apr 2022)

Six fills posted - three WIPs at the moment - shooting for a Row 1 bingo at minimum with a stretch goal of Column N.   Need to keep my focus on this bingo!

* B1 - Red Room!Clint -  Love in a Dangerous Time -  Young Clint is given the choice between going to jail or joining a shadowy organization - but this time it’s not SHIELD.   Probably going with a couple of short chapters:  Chapter 1 is coming in at  624 words and Chapter is up to  634 words.   Current Last Line:  “Again,”   Karpov commanded, a tinge of disappointment in his voice. 

* B3 - Bucky Worries about Clint -  I may look at reworking/adding on to  At What Cost -- the ficlet I posted last Friday for Agony April and Flash Fiction Friday -- to see if I can squeeze it into this square as well. Currently sitting at 437 words.

* I1 - Harry Potter AU -   The awesome @psychiccatpanda (aka Faustess)   and I are collab’ing on this  and having a blast!   We’re brainstorming and tossing the doc back and forth to write scenes and have  a first draft sitting at  3180 words  (of which I’m claiming about 1400)   where Clint meets up with Steve & Bucky and Natasha on the train to Hogwarts.  This will also fill my  new Bucky Barnes Bingo card square  Love at First Sight and should post on Friday. Faustess and I are talking about possibly making this a series (if it gets a good response) with each work told from a different POV and not necessarily chronological.  

* I4 - Clint meeting WS!Bucky  - Will use Chapter 2 of Love in a Dangerous Time  to fill this.

Stucky Bingo - Round 3 [SB R3] (Runs thru 31 May 2022)

* N5 - KINK: Sugar Daddy  - Working on a new chapter for  Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) - Pour Some Sugar  - Steve invites Bucky to meet him in New York for a weekend.   Currently up to 538 words. Current Last Line:    Steve stood up and waved.  “Bucky!  Over here!”

* G4 - KINK: End of the world sex - got some help brainstorming during the Discord server party -  I may be writing a porn parody of (some part of) Infinity War 😁  

* O2 - AU: A/B/O  - planning to use this on the next chapter of   Flawed Hypothesis, which is Steve POV and currently sitting at  69 words.  Faustess might be helping out on this as well? Current Last Line: But now they were living in a new century,  where men could love and marry other men.  

* ADOPTED2 : Incubi/succubi AU -  Combining this with a  @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt  of Setting Heaven On Fire,  and using a poem I wrote years & years ago as lead-in for a  Stucky-by-proxy fic  - currently sitting at 224 words. Current Last Line:    It’s not my fault if they consider it a sin.  

Steve | Tony | Bucky Bingo Round 2 [STBB R2]  (Runs thru 30 Jun 2022)

Nine fills, and three WIPs.  Taking advantage of the One Fill, One Bingo opportunity, and might get a Column B bingo as well.

* B4 - Working Out -  this came from a Bucky Barnes Bingo server party:   Binging Avengers Exercises -   the team posts their workouts online and modern!Bucky spends entirely too much time watching the channel - especially Captain America and Iron Man.

*  N2 - AU: Western  - possible crossover with MWAPB  Next Door Neighbors  – I have a decent idea for this one  (semi-inspired by a recent re-read of  Laura Ingalls Wilder A Long Winter)   and jotted down about 225 words’ worth of notes/VERY rough draft. May  hold on to this to see if I can crossflll with an upcoming TSB square.  

* O4 - Lazy Sunday Morning  -  have a smutty WinterIron idea for this one; need to get it jotted   down - will most likely cross over with my BBB  KINK: Edging square.

Started something to combining the following squares for the One Fill, One Bingo badge:    B5 - “Aliens, again?”, I5 - Lifeguard,  N5 - Barbeque,  G5 - River Rafting, O5 - Wakanda.    Avengers + Guardians in a partying mood = a huge headache for T’Challa.   It’s currently sitting at 339 words. Two  fills posted and 0 WIPs - I decided to further challenge myself by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers! With the help of the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks - I’ve got all 16 squares   planned out, at least in terms of who to write about, and half of them have some sort of idea or crossover square to go along with them.
