Tired Webcomic Creator Noises
Gags … ah yes lets make art into mindless content spat out by Ai cos we've been literally killing creators with inhumane workloads to spit out as many episodes as possible for mindless consumption.
I make my comics with passion and love of the craft! I have a degree in Comics, I spent years...years learning, practising, experimenting, adapting. I recall the days where you may get a page a week, or a few at the start of the month back in the 2000s era of self hosted webcomics and smackjeeves. (Rant below)
I've had to learn how the whole scrolling format worked to adapt to where all the readers had gone to, having been taught the traditional print page formats. And now cos its suddenly a massive money maker for these few hosts and they've pushed creators to the brink with the sheer volume they want pumped out that of course they want to use AI.
Tumblr media
But it will speed up colouring! I have multiple tools available by the software I use and made by the wonderful people who love creating that colouring isn't that much of a chore, Its my fav part honestly. And its also a job sector within comics, colourists are skilled artists and this is another way to trim the fat, to pocket more money and keep churning out the 5th millionth villainess story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes I am in most views a tiny creator, I haven't even broken their 1000 sub goal to even try applying for ad rev in the near 5 ish years on webtoon. But what I make I love, I spend hours researching folklore, scripting, drafting the whole kabudle like many other creators. And other than the kind supporters on my Patreon and Ko-fi I don't make much from the hours, days, weeks I pour into what I make. But at least I know its made with my own hands. That its made with love as corny as that sounds.
Ai is creeping its tentacles into everything, now ethically trained ai tools to help smaller creators would be fine. Most creators already rely on 3d tools to speed up things like backgrounds for webcomics. But when we don't know what its trained on, and is marketed wholesale as something anyone can use to make "content" is where it gets insidious. I am all for anyone with the desire to create and tell a story to go out there and do so, whether a beginner or a master. Part of the joy of a long running webcomic is seeing the artist grow both artistically and literary. But with ai it will be all one homogenous style, a copy of what ever is the hot thing. We already have amazon stuffed to the teeth with ai generated books, videos, merch and more all to be sold in some get rich quick manner. (need I point at the Willy's Wonderland incident). Youtube videos being spat out by faceless accounts stealing and regurgitating content at the speed no human video making team can easily match without cutting out quality or fact checking.
It is tiring. Creatives as a whole are treated poorly for decades, and now with the rapid late stage capitalism, website /social media enshitification and the blind headlong rush into the next big money making thing (watches the nft crash). I can't deny Covid sped this up, as everyone was locked inside and turned to what we creators made for comfort. But that content eating boom, lead to more demand, faster output and tighter budgets. We are seeing journalists being cut, game designers in their thousands and recently Dreamworks cutting a bunch and pushing to make their Robot film come out sooner due to public demands.
Tumblr media
Skilled creatives are being treated like disposable fast food restaurant employees. Used til they burn out, get injured and even die! And then are simply replaced.
I've never been a creator with huge ambitions to work at places like DC, Marvel or Top Cow. I simply wished to create and share stories with the world, to bring smiles, to create art that evokes emotions, inspires others to look around themselves and create too.
Art is for everyone. You just need to take that scary jump, there is a whole array of welcoming communities willing to teach and share. I wouldn't have improved so much without the kindness of the webcomic groups I've discovered and learnt from. Everyone is always learning, and there no shame in not knowing how to do a thing. Even I started with the cheesy how to draw books as a kid and made my own pokemon and digimon.
Don't let the world treat your art as content. It is "ART" as much as what's kept in the louvre is seen as art, so is that little stick man doodle on a postit.
So Try something new, try a new material, a new style.
And support the artists you enjoy, tip their Ko-Fi, pledge to their Patreon, buy a sticker or print. Share their posts and tell them what you love about what they make.
Don't let machines steal away the art in HEART.

Ex-Designer Project Bar in Barcelona
via e-flux
Martí Guixé’s Ex-Designer Project Bar, an exceptional project that turns a digitally designed interior, produced entirely using full-size 3D printing techniques into a standalone object, will be on display at the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub) from May 23 to August 25.
The project was born in November 2015, when Martí Guixé, one of Barcelona’s most internationally influential 21st century designers, set out to design and 3D-print, independently and without help, all the components of a bar on Barcelona’s C/ Entença in collaboration with architect Pau Badia. The bar, an empty commercial unit with minimal structure, was gradually redesigned and built over a period of almost five years, using three on-site printers while still in operation. Thus, all the bar’s components were gradually printed: everything from the tiles on the walls and the furniture down to the smallest utensils, such as glasses of different types, plates and cutlery.
According to Martí Guixé, the process itself is what matters, so the project became something performative, incorporating coincidence in a natural way.
The use of the establishment as a bar—where concerts, presentations, talks and other events were also held—was just as important as its role as a laboratory for experimenting on the possibilities of additive printing, and the utopia of digital autonomy. The project explores the true potential of digital fabrication technologies to achieve the dream of self-sufficiency for local production, without having to rely on large global manufacturing systems.
Just as the bar was finished, with the grand opening scheduled for February 2020, the pandemic and subsequent lockdown forced it to close. It then underwent a process of “deconstruction”, which was carried out behind closed doors and in an orderly manner, like a work of archaeology, in order to preserve it in full. The Ex-Designer Project Bar thus ceased to be a bar or a work of interior design to become a standalone “object” adapted for other possible uses.
Martí Guixé’s Ex-Designer Bar is a reflection on the potential for democratising industrial production and the industrial process: “The use of 3D technology makes artisans redundant and unifies materials. The world is made up of ideas, not of people’s energy”. He also said that “bringing the Ex-Designer Bar to a museum turns it into an object, a ruin and an archaeological site of the future”.
The first full-size reconstruction of the bar With Ex-Designer Project Bar, the DHub is exhibiting this monumental object in its original format, after assembling the walls and other various components: A total of 30 wooden panels measuring 122 cm x 150 cm, plus over six thousand 14 cm x 14 cm tiles. The result is an installation that measures 8.75 x 3.56 m and is 5.02 m high, whose component parts have been 3D-printed in full size using polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable polymer made from 100% renewable resources, such as corn or plant starch.
The interior walls include the front of the bar, which features figurative motifs from other projects by Martí Guixé, the side bars with experiments with bas-reliefs and pseudo-geometric figures in various sizes and thicknesses, and unsuccessful attempts to create a series of bag and coat hooks. There is also a notice board with backlit tiles for posting information about events and food and drink prices, as well as a front panel in which the main figure represents Artificial Intelligence, a representation of all the 3D printers used, including the one for printing food.

HAVE LOVE WILL TRAVEL
Another drabble from prompts I get on a Discord server I belong to.
Asami answered her cell phone on its third ring.  Opal was on the other end of the call and she blurted out, “Where the hell are you right now?  I tried the mansion but no one answered.”
“I’m never home on Sundays…at least I haven’t been since Korra’s down south.  I thought you knew that.”
“I guess I didn’t put two and two together, sorry!!  How long has she been gone?” Opal questioned.
“She’s been gone for two months and I’m going crazy without her.  She tells me all the time how much she misses me and I miss her too.  I mean we talk every second day but I’m just not sleeping well without her.  I just need to feel her next to me.  Plus, our anniversary is coming up and I don’t know if she’ll be home or not.  I feel like I’m losing it Ope.”
Asami knew that the confession she had just made would have Opal’s problem-solving skills kick into overdrive.  It did not take long for Opal to respond.
“Aren’t you the CEO of a multi-billion yuan company?”
“Yes, I am and that’s why I’m in the office right now.”
“And you’re missing your wife?”
“More than the three years she was gone.”
Asami could picture Opal raising one of her eyebrows as they spoke on the phone.  “Oh My Raava.  You’re the boss.  You’re allowed to say, ‘Fuck it’ and just leave the city to go see your wife you know.  I mean if I was you, I would book a first-class ticket to Harbour City right now and screw the consequences.  You have great people who work for you and they can take up the slack.  You did train them.”
Asami couldn’t argue with that.  “I so hate it when you’re right.”
“No, you don’t.  You love me!!!”
“Yeah, I guess I do.  Thanks for the pep talk.  I’ll book right now and I’ll send some emails to my team while I wait for the flight.  Thanks, Ope.  See you in a week.”
With that Opal and Asami hung up and Asami opened a travel site on her computer.  It took about fifteen minutes to get her flight and car booked.  The flight was leaving in three hours.  Plenty of time to get everything done.
___
Four hours later and in the air above the Mo Ce Sea, Asami was very glad for the tasty food she was being served by the cabin crew.  She hadn’t eaten anything since the bagel she had before she left for the office.  She could hear Korra in her head saying that she shouldn’t skip meals.  Asami smiled to herself and began to read the in-flight magazine.  She blushed because it was the newest edition of “Life in RC” and she was on the cover.  The story was about the new 3D printing machines that Future Industries had designed for home use.  Asami continued to peruse the magazine until the aircraft's captain came on the speakers.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our descent into Harbour City.  We are encountering some turbulent weather so it might get a bit bumpy.  We should be on the ground and at the terminal in a little under thirty minutes.”
Asami put the magazine back into its proper place and tightened her seatbelt.  Although the landing was a little choppy, she was relieved and grabbed her carry-on luggage from the overhead bin.  After thanking the crew, she stepped out of the aircraft and headed directly to the car rental place.  Asami knew that winters in the Southern Water Tribe could be wicked so a top-of-the-line Satomobile vehicle with all the bells and whistles was what she had booked.  As she got to the counter, the attendant was smiling.  He began, “Hi, I’m Kasen.  Are you here to pick up a vehicle?”
“Nice to meet you Kasen and yes, I’m here to pick up the SUV I booked.”
“Name?”
“Asami Sato.  I booked a new Scorpion XL this morning online.”
“Yes, ma’am.  I see the reservation right here.  I’m glad you picked this vehicle because the weather yesterday was pretty horrendous.  There were whiteout conditions in the town; subsequently, the roads were impassable.  With this machine, you will have no problems on the roads today.  May I please see your driver’s licence and credit card.”
Asami handed over what was asked for and was relieved that she wasn’t recognized this far south.  Once the transaction was complete, she walked out the front of the terminal and strode over to her ride.  She was very thankful for the heated seats and heated steering wheel.
As she drove through Harbour City along the waterfront she was amazed by the large chunks of ice washing up on the beach.  I guess it really was one helluva storm.
The trip to the Chief’s palace took about forty minutes and when she arrived, she was met at the door by the security staff.  Asami was escorted to the front door of the Chief’s living area.  She knocked.
She heard “Coming” from behind the door.  It was Korra’s voice.  Asami’s pulse began to race as she waited.  She was almost frantic.  The door was flung open and there stood the Avatar in all her glory.  Korra’s brow furrowed for a second and then a 1000-watt smile burst from her lips.
“Asami!!  What are you doing here?  I mean I love that you’re here but why.”
Asami’s voice came out as a squeak.  She pleaded, “I needed to see you.  I needed to hug you.  I needed to kiss you.”  The CEO’s eyes filled with tears.
Korra lifted her hand and wiped the droplets away from her wife’s cheek.  Asami leaned in, embraced Korra and kissed her fiercely.  The relief she felt was almost overwhelming.  The couple's weeklong vacation brought them both the comfort and support they each needed.

World building
Making 3D models of stuff (it's really fun I made an entire Disneyland ish land area and went way to hard on the details, I made a whole industrial kitchen with ovens and deep fryers and bread and everything. I shaped the bread like cats and called it cat loaves, then it became a joke between me and my teacher abd he 3D printed a little one for me and I made a poster for it and my photography teacher printed it out big on professional photo paper)
Chili! Best food and it's actually good for me!
Legos!
Baking
I just really like to make stuff, I probably went off on a tangent.
Thank you this was fun!

What is the context to the creative brief that you are solving, what do you know from the given information and your research? What is the history and the contemporary relevance of this creative problem.
VisCom Showcase Event is an event that started in March 2022 by Yasmina Frej. The aim of the event is to inspire students and give them a chance to make connections with students closer to their age who are starting off in the industry and learn from their university experience by choosing a few students from different courses across VisCom to showcase their work. Additionally, there will also be at least one industry professional who will be presenting alongside, and students who will be selling their work outside the event hall.
Objectives:
What is the purpose of this advertising/branding/design campaign.
1. Inspire students across VisCom to see what type of work they could be creating

Devolution by Max Brooks [Mixed Review, 3/5]
Tumblr media
The review under the cut contains both copious spoilers and some details as to what disappointed me about this book. If you intend to read it and don't want spoilers, or if you enjoyed it and don't want the negativity in your life, just keep scrolling and enjoy your life. If you disliked it and feel alone, well, let this be company to you. But first, a short bit for those using reviews to decide whether to pick it up.
Devolution has, for you: Heavy action, high violence, low dread, surface-level characterization, medium wackiness, lots and lots of female characters in action roles, and a found footage type premise that could have been executed more convincingly. It reads like a r/nosleep story with professional editing, so if you're into that I say it's a great book to give a chance.
Now, the rude parts.
I grabbed Devolution as my inaugural Spooky Season (post-equinox, pre-Halloween) read for two reasons. One, I'm a sucker for a bigfoot story. Two, I forgot who Max Brooks was.
Who Max Brooks is, his various foibles, and the publishing industry's insistence on shelving his action books in the horror section contributed heavily to my more negative impressions of the book. At the height of his popularity, I was the only young adult male who actively disliked World War Z. When he wrote a Minecraft book a decade later, I said "Of course he's writing a flipping Minecraft book."
In a way, Devolution is a Minecraft book. It's obsessed with crafting, though not in a creative or interesting way. The characters have access to a 3D printer that works with glass, a piece of technology with considerable and straightforward potential for destructive applications, yet they use sticks and kitchen knives to fight the bigfeet until a character with no previous experience with the technology magically realizes it can be used to print... more... knives. For their sticks. I get it, describing the process of modeling and manufacturing 3D printed objects is not interesting, but neither is five pages on how to put a kitchen knife on a stick.
The characters are Minecraft as well, downright low-poly. The book is slow to start, which I don't mind in horror, but it uses this slow start ineffectively in terms of making you care about these characters and even enable you to remember which is which. They could all be described as "Dumb, spoiled pseudo-hippie who deserves to get eaten by Bigfoot," which is rich coming from a prep school-educated child of wealthy entertainment industry veterans. I'll say it: It's stealing redneck dirtbag valor to have that background and make fun of Whole Foods shoppers for having had it too good for too long.
There's even a Minecraft quality to the prose, more specifically a Minecraft creepypasta/nosleep quality. The story is related to us mainly through the meticulously detailed journal entries of the only character I think we're supposed to identify with, and it's very much in the vein of spending 3,500 supposedly handwritten words describing how Luigi came out of the screen with photorealistic blood all over his face. I don't consider this an automatically bad quality, but it's not effective in convincing me that these are journal entries and it's not the book I was sold. I went into it expecting more mystery, less detail, more of the ambiguity that the staccato firsthand recording of immense events tends to have when written in the moment by people not preparing a journalistic piece. For me, the purpose of relating a horror story in epistolary form is to pare down the details and narrow the focus so that the audience can experience dread and horror through extrapolation. That's not possible when this woman is apparently hunkering down in 5+ hours of comfort to recount several conversations word for word.
To Hell with your journal entries that are as long as a conventional chapter. Give me "Itchy tasty."
The failure of the recovered document gimmick dovetails nicely with the failure in theming and characterization. If Brooks was interested in themes beyond "Hippies are dumb, you need a gun to kill Bigfoot, IDIOT," he could very easily carve a story about trauma and adversity out of this bigfoot book. Personal and intergenerational trauma affects pretty much every character but the main couple. There are parents raising a refugee child. There's an older Jewish man whose parents escaped the Holocaust and suffered a break from his sister over her own reaction to that inherited trauma - joining the IDF. There's a middle aged survivor of the Bosnian War who's heavily implied to have lost her entire immediate family in the conflict. On the more mundane side, there's a couple navigating life after one partner's struggle with cancer. Kate and Dan, our narrator and her boytoy? Their entire thing is... postmodern ennui? The book wants us to hold everyone else in disdain and be enraptured with how Actually Capable this finance industry lady and her dipshit unemployed manchild husband are once the chips are down, and it's just galling.
And when I say that the book wants us to hold these people in disdain, I mean that it achieves this by making Kate the narrator. Kate is fundamentally incurious about other people, which means the running narrative in her journal spends little to no time on them. The information we need in order to care about them is related either in extratextual material between journal chapters or in too-little-too-late infodumps that Kate doesn't seem to care about.
There's a way to make that kind of characterization and info delivery interesting and coherent, but it goes against the format to which Brooks has wedded himself. If this were written as a memoir by Kate written years after the disaster with her (shorter, sparser, non-prose) journal entries as material from which the memoir prose is extrapolated, time and distance would enable you to play with trauma as it relates to Kate, who came into this situation with few adverse experiences and may now regret how she initially characterized these people with whom she wound up in what is essentially a siege combat scenario. You wouldn't get the TV Tropes-compatible ending where she becomes Schrodinger's Badass, but you might have a book I'd recommend more warmly.
3/5. It's bigfeet! If you go into it expecting dad fiction in the vein of Tyrannosaur Canyon but with bigfeet, I feel you'll have a good enough time. If you're looking for the book as described in the blurbs (horror, recovered documents recognizable as epistolary documents and not just prose, spooky dreadful times in the woods) it's not here. It's just not present. The book it is isn't unreadable, but it's not the book as advertised.
Also, as a parting shot: The book's central conceit, that an ultra-wealthy technocrat community in the middle of nowhere, where the company founder himself lives with all the doodads and googaws his wealth can buy right there, would not be the most drone-policed and security-riddled Cute Little Police State is DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMB and, like Kate and Dan's Big Problem being that they're well off and bored and sad, really speaks to how the class divide between me and Brooks contributed to my open disdain for this book.

The Empty Capsules Market primed to grow Owing To Increasing Usage of Capsules In Nutraceuticals
Tumblr media
The empty capsules market is primarily driven by the growing demand for capsules in the pharmaceutical and nutraceuticals industry. Empty capsules are two-piece capsules consisting of a body and a cap, and are available in different sizes suitable for varied pharmaceutical formulations such as powders, pellets, granules and liquids. Capsules have certain advantages over other dosage forms like tablets as they protect the active ingredients from moisture and air and allow for taste masking of bitter drugs. The empty capsules are inert and are formulated to have physical and chemical stability over long periods of storage. The global empty capsules market is estimated to be valued at US$2.3 Bn in 2024 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 7.9% over the forecast period 2023 to 2030. Key Takeaways Key players operating in the empty capsules market are ACG Worldwide, Capsugel, Qualicaps Inc., Bright Pharma Caps Inc., Sunil Healthcare Ltd., CapsCanada Corporation, Roxlor LLC, Snail Pharma Industry Co. Ltd., Suheung Co. Ltd., and Medi-Caps Ltd. The key players dominate around 65-70% of the global market. Growing demand for capsules in pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals industries is a major factor driving the empty capsules market. Capsules offer various advantages over conventional tablet formulations such as ease of swallowing, accurate dosing and taste masking abilities. The nutraceuticals industry has seen significant growth in the past decade due to increasing health awareness among consumers. Technological advancements have allowed capsule manufacturers to offer innovative solutions. Printed capsules allow for personalized medication and aid brand recognition for pharmaceutical companies. Vegetarian capsule formulations are also gaining traction due to rising demand from vegan and vegetarian consumers. Enteric capsules help protect active ingredients from degradation in the stomach environment. Market Trends Plant-based Hypromellose (HPMC) capsules are emerging as a sustainable option. Globally, there is increasing preference for plant-based products and HPMC capsules address this trend. HPMC is derived from cellulose and does not involve the use of animal by-products. 3D printing technology offers opportunities for customized capsule design and fill volumes. It allows formulation of various capsule shapes and sizes specific to an application. This enhances flexibility and production efficiency for pharmaceutical companies. Market Opportunities Rising preference for nutraceuticals and functional foods present an opportunity to increase the use of empty capsules in these industries. Capsule delivery is considered suitable for supplements, herbal extracts and oils. The vegetable/plant-based capsule market is poised to grow significantly owing to demand from vegan and vegetarian consumers globally. More manufacturers are anticipated to launch innovative plant-derived capsule shells.
