Episode 56: Demonic Awakening - Fem!Reader tries to summon a succubus to break her dry spell. It doesn't work, and she gets more than she bargained for
Episode 57: Ranch Hand - Fem!Reader didn't get a job as a hucow, and almost gave up on her ambition to become a professional whore for the three minotaur brothers who run the ranch until a mysterious text message gives her hope (I'm real proud of this one)
Episode 58: Pack Tactics - The world ended several years ago. Fem!Reader has been running with wolves since then. A juvenile takes an interest in her, and one thing leads to another
Episode 59: Sacrifice - Fem!Reader escaped a terrible fate long ago, and now has to come back to her hometown to save her niece from the same. It ends badly
Episode 60: Beauty and the Beasts - It's the 1600s and Fem!Reader has a pair of wolf boyfriends! It's a good time, lots of consensual fucking, lots of exposition about the origin of lupines in the continuity, some implied impregnation

Okay so I’ve been obsessing over the Saja boys these days. Hyperfixation. New brain rot unlocked. Absolute serotonin. And after reading all these chef's kiss stories on here, my delulu brain said:
"What if Artist!Fem!Reader x Saja boys?"
And no, I don’t mean reader who just likes drawing.
I mean full-on webtoon artist. Sleep-deprived, over-caffeinated, hasn’t seen the sun in days—that kind of artist.
The kind who sees hot people and thinks, "great bone structure. Gonna draw that."
So here’s the ✨vision✨:
Reader isn’t romantically impressed by the Saja boys. At all.
They try to flirt?
"You’re shaped like a Pinterest pose reference. Mind holding that flex for a sec?"
They're shirtless?
"Nice lighting. I need to sketch your obliques."
They do the sexy wink?
They're out here looking like gods and MC’s just collecting them like rare anatomy models.
"I’ve seen better. Your symmetry’s a little off."
How'd she got involved? Well, she didn’t even mean to meet them, really.
She just took a low-key staff job which is some basic behind-the-scenes work. Water duty. Carrying gear. Sweeping up glitter. Whatever pays rent.
But then:
Accidentally walks in on them mid-magic ritual.
Mistakes it for a stage rehearsal.
Doesn’t scream—just critiques the lighting and poses.
Becomes a walking enigma the boys can’t stop thinking about.
THEN her apartment burns down. Rent’s out of the question. And after a lot of suspicious looks and internal debates, one of the Saja boys goes:
"You can stay with us. Temporarily."
So now she’s:
Working for five hot demon idols
Living in their house
Still not impressed.
But wait—it gets worse (better.)
She thinks they’re just dramatic, overly aesthetic idols until she finds out:
They’re literal demons.
And their enemies? Obv the Huntrix which she thinks is another group that has... some similar name to that kpop group.
[Y/n]: "Like— Like Demon slayers?!"
YES. SHE STANS HUNTRIX. But she knows 2...
She has fanart. She follows a fancomic. She thought Mina, They said Mira but she thinks they mixed the name—pink hair, dual-scythe (technically a guandao, but whatever), was fictional.

The boys are bandaged, battered, and mid-complaint.

Roman: "…Yeah, why?” [Y/n]: *eyes sparkling, playing along* "OH MY GOD YOU FOUGHT THE MINA?? SHE’S SO COOL!! I LOVE HER ???"
Dead silence. Mystery: *barks once in betrayal* JINU: *eye twitching* "You… stan the person actively trying to kill us?"
[Y/n]: "Okay first of all, she's not trying to kill me. Secondly, have you seen her design? Iconic. Her color palette? Perfect. Her character arc? Chef’s kiss. The drama. The trauma. The hair."
She pauses.
[Y/n]: *softly, reverently*: "She’s everything I wish I could draw." Abby: "You’re sleeping outside."
2. The Abs Incident
Abby: "Go ahead, babe. One-time offer to touch perfection." [Y/n]: "Okay." *Touches abs with terrifying focus.* [Y/n] *nods* "Good texture. I’m using you for a villain character. Thanks."
3. Rumi’s Breakdown (Huntrix Squad)
Rumi: "THEY’RE DEMONS! HOW CAN YOU STAY AT THEIR PLACE?! Not with just one—but all five?!!" [Y/n]: "Really? Wow.” Mira: *narrows eyes* "…You don’t look surprised." Zoey: Are you in cahoots with them?! Like—were you so BEWITCHED by their faces?! Because SAME. But also, betrayal??? [Y/n]: "Oh no, I’m freaking out inside. I just… this is PEAK webtoon content. Enemies to lovers potential. I’m living in someone’s AU."
4. When She Meets Mira
[Y/n]: "Oh my god. You’re real." Mira: "And you’re the artist who’s been drawing me in armor and… cat ears?" [Y/n]: "It was for the Patreon tier okay please don’t kill me."
5. Late-Night Kitchen Chaos
She just wanted rent money 😔Now she has demon roommates, stan wars, and probably develops an accidental crush on the villains.
Baby: "Most girls would kill for a moment alone with me."
[Y/n]: *without looking up from her sketchpad* "Can you move? You’re blocking the fridge light. I’m using it to shade your clavicle." Baby: "…Do I at least look cool?" [Y/n]: "Yeah. You’ve got the perfect bone structure for a mid-arc character death." Baby: "????"
And somehow, that’s still not the weirdest part of her week.
✨ [Y/n] doesn’t flirt. She doesn’t swoon. She just humbles the boys like it’s her side quest. ✨

this week is all about your artistic identity ... technically, you don't have to draw anything new this week if you have some art that already fits. the starter days are:
1 ⭐ self portrait who are you? it doesn't have to be you IRL .. if you feel more comfortable drawing a fursona or mascot, that's fine too! if you don't wanna draw, you can also just share old self portraits today and talk about why you drew yourself that way!
2 🤍 inspirations see how this day doesn't have a star? that means it's optional and you don't have to do it at all! but if you really wanna- tell us all about what inspires you to create art! this could be anything from the people that inspire you, the shows you like, the pins on your big messy pinterest board, or concepts that you're drawn to! you can draw something about it, talk about it, or just post your inspirations! anything is fine
3 ⭐ fav thing to draw what do you like drawing most? backgrounds? animals? one specific animal? bust of your oc facing left? cars? the same anime boy over and over and over? no judgement!! show us :)

COLOUR WEEK
this is the week for playing with palettes and working on your colour theory skills! if you're really struggling with these ones, don't worry about drawing scenes or characters, you can just have fun splashing colours around on an abstract canvas!
11 🤍 RGB a set or primary colours typically used in digital/screen art - red, green and blue!
12 🤍 CMYK a set of primary colours typically used in traditional/print art - cyan, magenta, yellow ... and key (black!)
for both of these days ↑ you can add in black and white. and feel free to combine the two days into one, if you're struggling with a three-colour palette! use all six!
13 ⭐ WARM COLOURS the warm side of the colour wheel, reds oranges and yellows!
14 🤍 MONOCHROME monochrome doesn't mean black and white ... it means one colour! that can be any colour at all- shades of red, shades of purple, shades of green .. or yeah, grey if you really want!

False + pixel art (Commodore 64 limitations)
For False I made pixel art following Commodore 64 limitations!

Pixel art is digital art where images are built using only pixels as their building blocks. Nowadays pixel art pieces can be massive and complex, but historically pixel art had strict limitations on size, color, and arrangement that were dependent on the software being used. Today some pixel artists still follow historical limitations as an aesthetic choice and personal challenge.
For this piece I followed the pixel limitations from the Commodore 64, a computer model from the 1980s. Specifically, I followed the Multi Color Mode limitations, which are:
1) 160 x 200 pixel size with each pixel character being 2 squares long and 1 square tall (so the image size in square pixels would be 320 x 200)
2) Within each 4 x 8 area (8 x 8 if we were using square pixels) only up to 3 colors, plus the background color (black), can be used.
3) The only colors in the image are 16 predefined colors from the Commodore 64 color palette.

Do you have an art tip you’d say changed your life and wished you had known sooner?
(LOV UR ART WOWOWOWOWOW)
i can think of five actually (some of them my personal observations so may be something that is not actually true)
1. you have to figure out if you think in lines or in shapes and adjust your drawing process accordingly. you don't have to abandon what you want to do for the sake of what you better at, you just have to be creative
2. colours are more important than lots of other things in your art. a good colour palette can hide all your mistakes or make them look likea personal style and a bad colour palette can make a professional artist's work look like the author knows nothing
3. aside from a regular eraser use some sort of airbrush eraser. it leaves a faint reminder of what was there before and sometimes you don't need a thing to be erased completely and drawn again from scratch
4. let eyes be the last thing you put on a face. you may put a mark where they should be but don't go into much detail before you're done with everything else. very often when something's wrong with the face it's either the eyes or their fault as they set other features for failure with their wrong position
5. if your dominant hand is the left one and you're trying to learn composition and you look at all of those examples in books/articles/video lectures etc and you kinda understand the schemes, but you wouldn't see 'the movement' they're talking about without purposely looking for it, you don't really 'feel the flow', nothing actually 'leads your eye', try mirror flipping the images

The art director & the Good Omens book cover tier list of doom, part 1

This is going to have to be a multi-part series because there are *checks notes* 64 different covers that I've found so far.
I am your resident Art Director/Good Omens enthusiast, and welcome to my completely meta-free book cover tier list. Listen, making a book cover is HARD. I should know. But while we salute these artists for their hard work and time, I think we can all admit that once in a while, the vision is just not on. And on very rare occasions, publishers seemed to have managed to commission the cover art directly from hell... 1. The original UK cover

Ahh, the standard by which all shall be judged. We're starting off with a nice & easy cover, with adorable woodcuts of Aziraphale and Crowley flanking a custom Good Omens font! While I have to take a few points off for the terrible kerning of the word "GoOD", the blockprint vibes and general bitchiness of Aziraphale's teeny weeny wittle face, along with the sick colour palette puts the orignial in my good graces. Tier: Great
2. The duelling US covers

Progress! Hail to the designer who figured out trying to make "GoOD" and "OMeNs" fit the same width was a fool's errand, and even managed to IMPROVE on the original handmade title by adding a little halo and devil's tale to the design. Aziraphale and Crowley are facing each other, while also managing to serve absolute cunt. Aziraphale is wearing EIGHTIES SNEAKERS. Crowley's little snake boots have HEELS. They've managed to keep the woodcut vibes and colour simplicity, while balancing out the full title of the book. Both authors get to trade off on who's name comes first! Dare I say, this is a work of genius. I could dock some points for Crowley's sad bat wings growing out of his right clavicle, but who am I to question greatness.
Tier: Blessed by God Herself
3. The Halo Master Chief(?) cover

How the mighty have fallen... As a Canadian child, I was subjected to maybe the most horrifying ad in existence by the War Amps warning children about machine safety. This cover is the paper embodiment of that ad. I am confused by the purple haze. I am frightened by the seeming ethereal flatness of Adam and Dog. I am strangely aroused by Aziraphale's eyebrows, and intensely saddened by the terrible outline/drop shadow they had to inflict on the type to fit "Pratchett" in that god awful space. Tier: WTF
4. Germany, Ein Gutes Omen covers


This cover inexplicably exists in two colour ways: red and teal. I put the audiobook cover here so you could experience the full illustration, and also how fucked up it is that they cropped the book version to include three horse-people of the apocalypse, but cut off DEATH on the regular cover. Points must be given for drawing a pretty slick Bentley, but I think we have to take even more points away for turning Crowley into a Ray Charles/Mike Wazowski hybrid. The ducks are nice. Tier: Not so Good (Omens)
5. Germany, Ein Gutes Omen covers continued

I don't know if the German designer of this cover *knew* that they were using western yeehaw cowboy woodblock letters when they made this cover, but judging by how they spaced the rest of the text at the bottom, THEY DID NOT CARE. And that seems to be a running theme for this one. We get kind of a duality thing going on with the black and pink background, but it just seems like somebody whispered the general themes of Good Omens into a jar, and threw it down a well, and this poor chap came along and picked it up. The baffling choice to align every piece of text on the cover *except* Neil Gaiman's name which is right aligned and rotated 90 degrees (not even real vertical type) will haunt my dreams, I think.
Tier: Bad
6. US, UK The Traffic Jam cover
For the love of Good Omens, WHY. I can think of so many more interesting symbols to put on the cover of this book than the ODEGRA SIGIL TRAFFIC JAM. Props for keeping the good colours and type, but like, I think this cover was secretly designed by @amtrak-official, or someone who just really, really likes public works. Tier: Does the Job
7. France, De bons présages cover
Leave it to France to make sure people know that Aziraphale and Crowley fuck severely. While I can't condone leaving out half the title of the book (and thinking a red carpenter's square counts as decoration), I can begrudgingly acknowledge that Ron Pearlman and Benedict Cumberbatch's love child is excellent Crowley casting. I think I give this a solid dark academia/10. Tier: Good (Omens)
8. France, De bons présages covers continued

Just imagine with me, if you will, the absolutely hilarious reality that this cover posits: Good Omens is exactly the same in every respect, but Crowley drives a pink 1950s convertible. Why do all of the colours on this cover look like they've been pre-digested? Why are the font choices and placement so bafflingly bad. My face is the demon's face holding that car. I feel his pain.
Tier: WTF
9. France, De bons présages covers continued

Minus points for not managing to write the full title of the book once again. I don't know what it is with the French. They seem pretty set on Good Omens being demonic. While I do appreciate a good Bosch-style demon party, the dude in the middle confounds me. All-caps Museo Sans that isn't even *centred* in the frame is just so lazy. I am le tired. Tier: Bad

The bell above the studio door jingled.
Y/N didn’t even look up from her palette at first. Just assumed it was another walk-in or a client arriving early.
She was halfway through mixing foundation for the bridal shoot scheduled at noon when a familiar voice dragged her attention up.
“So,” Chris started, leaning way too casually against the front desk. “Is this where I ask for a touch-up, or are you gonna pretend you don’t know me?”
Y/N blinked.
He was wearing all black again, rings on almost every finger, a cigarette tucked behind one ear even though he wasn’t smoking inside. His hoodie was a little wrinkled. His hair a little messier than usual.
He looked like he’d rolled straight out of bed and into trouble.
Of course he looked hot.
Y/N raised an eyebrow. “Touch-up?”
Chris nodded, deadly serious. “Yeah. I’ve got a faded line on my forearm. Real tragic. Thought I’d come to the pros.”
“You literally work in a tattoo shop,” she deadpanned. “With your brothers. Who are both artists.”
Chris shrugged. “Yeah but you’re here.”
Y/N rolled her eyes so hard it could’ve counted as cardio. “You’re not even trying to be subtle, huh?”
“Nope,” he said, popping the ‘p.’ “You ghosted me at 2AM, remember? Least you could do is let me hang out near your workspace like a lost puppy.”
She snorted and gestured toward the faded leather chair across from her station. “Fine. Sit. But if you get in my way, I’m kicking you out.”
Chris dropped into the chair with a grin that didn’t reach his eyes all the way. There were circles under them, soft and purplish, like maybe he hadn’t slept much either.
Neither of them said it, but it hung between them like smoke.
Last night happened.
And it meant something.

An hour passed. Clients came and went. Y/N worked, her hands steady even while Chris watched her like he was trying to memorize the way her nose crinkled when she focused or how she chewed her lip when she was annoyed.
At one point, he stole one of her makeup brushes and used it to flick her shoulder.
“You’re such a child,” she muttered.
“You love it.”
“I literally don’t.”
“Your face says otherwise.”
“My face wants you to shut up.”
But she was smiling.

Later, she was back home, halfway through taking off her makeup when Ava burst through the door like a damn FBI agent.
“Oh my god.”
Y/N jumped, nearly dropping her mascara. “Jesus, Ava—what the hell?”
“Don’t ‘Jesus’ me. You were with him again, weren’t you?”
Y/N blinked. “With who?”
Ava gave her a look. A full, dramatic teenage glare complete with crossed arms and narrowed eyes. “Tattoo boy. The one who looks like he’s permanently five seconds from lighting something on fire.”
Y/N paused. “Chris?”
“Chris.” Ava repeated, like the name tasted like forbidden fruit. “He was at the shop earlier, wasn’t he?”
“Yeah? He came to get a fake-ass touch-up. Why?”
“Because,” Ava said, flopping onto Y/N’s bed dramatically, “I knew something happened the other night. You snuck out. You looked weirdly soft the next morning. And now he’s showing up like a sad boy with commitment issues and secret feelings? Bitch, I read wattpad. I know this trope.”
Y/N turned to the mirror, pretending she wasn’t blushing. “You need to stop reading my Kindle library.”
“Not until you admit you wanna climb him like a tree.”
“I don’t,” Y/N said, but it sounded weak even to her.
Ava grinned like a cat with a dead mouse. “Sure. Keep lying. But just so you know—if you two fall in love and he breaks your heart, I will key his bike.”
Y/N laughed, actually laughed, and tossed a pillow at her sister’s face.
“Go do your homework, asshole.”
“You’re welcome for the emotional support,” Ava called, already disappearing into the hallway.

That night, Y/N opened her messages.
No texts from Chris.
But she wasn’t mad.
Some things didn’t need to move fast. Some people didn’t need to talk all the time.
Sometimes, someone sitting beside you and handing you a blunt at 2AM was more honest than a thousand words.
Still—she kind of hoped he’d show up again.
And maybe next time, she’d give him her number.
Maybe.

Hi, I’m a huge fan of your art and I wanted to know a little bit about your comics. About how long does it take you to make one, and how do you stay efficient about it? Also, how do you decide which parts are black, which are white, and which are gray? And are any parts of the process particularly difficult? I think it’s really beautiful how you can get so much across in your comics without crowding too much in each panel, like in manga for example. Also how most of them are entirely black and white. I’m asking all of this because I have a story I’ve written, and I want to turn it into a comic, which I’ve done before. But I’ve always become discouraged when I overshoot and make it way too detailed from the beginning and not be able to get that same amount of quality with more complicated panels. Thanks if you answer this.
HIIII. so the time that it takes to do like one page of comic varies for me depending on the level of finish i put into it, but i'd say not counting the scriptwriting or layout, the actual art for one page usually takes between 1-2 hours to finish. any more than that is too much for me, personally, but one of the things i've learned at art school is that i work INSANELY abnormally fast, so that kind of pace might not be sustainable for you. (i'm currently doing 5 pages a week for my thesis which is the kind of pace that kills people. it might kill me. we'll see.)
my best advice for b/w/g placement is to have an idea of what you want your finished panel/page to look like BEFORE you start drawing it. if you're just drawing the lineart and then filling in the black and gray after the fact, it's going to be much more difficult and you're going to run into problems like tangents and legibility issues with your color placement. especially when working with a limited palette, knowing roughly where each color will go before even beginning the project helps a lot. I'd also suggest trying to limit your use of gray to like, 3 tones max. I usually only use 1 or 2 if i use gray at all. this helps keep things in high-contrast and therefore more legible. Line weight is also especially important when you're only doing black and white, because it helps create depth and ground us in space when there's no color to do so. in general, don't be afraid to go for big blocks of black, but try to think about where and why you're using them!
As for your comment about overshooting, my advice is to ration. we joke sometimes about how manga artists will use a much more simplified style up until like, a big climactic scene and then suddenly lock in, but that's a genuinely useful tactic sometimes. You don't necessarily need a background in every panel if the background isn't the focus of a scene, and that leaves more energy for you to go all out when you DO need a big fancy establishing shot or some complex perspective or whatever. obviously you shouldn't just be totally phoning it in on less complex panels, but don't try to kill yourself over the less important details. focus on what's most important to get your point across in whatever situation you're working with!

here are some honest tips and remarks regarding commision work for anyone who is considering as someone who has been taking them for like, 1.5yrs?
1. people will dip on you. a lot. "i will commision you after the pay-day", "save me a slot" etc etc, don't get too excited abt these sorts of messages cuz usually people forget
2. most people are understanding and won't ask you for updates for even like, a month. don't stress over sending progress pics every few days, man
3. (whispers) tumblr people tip more than the ones on twitter. sweet website ily
4. if you're open about being proship/anti-harassment/whatever the fuck, for the love of god do NOT accept commisions from people who flaunt about being self-proclaimed antis on their accounts and this is 1000% for your safety!!! paypal n kofi show your info do not forget!!!
5. never take on more than 2 or 3 comms <- a guy who has 4 atm and is suffering. also, doesn't learn from his own mistakes
6. you will draw OCs. a lot of OCs. most likely, 85% of your commision work will be OCs. don't get too happy about getting to draw fanart and/or ship art, if that's more to your liking.
7. this is moreso for commisioners... artists might be nice to you but, personally, if you're super difficult to work with and mean, they'll add you to their unofficial blacklist and try to get out of working for you again in the future lmao
8. take 100% of payment up ahead ik this is controversial but genuinely. people who like your work will not mind, especially if you send progress pics after every step WHICH BY THE WAY! YOU SHOULD DO!! do not just. draw the entire thing and send to them for approval. engage the person in the process! make them feel part of it!
9. the client is always right, if you don't like the composition or color palette or anything else just suck it up. this is a drawing for someone else, not you. push personal tastes aside, pooks

Stocking Stuffer 1/5: A Bajillion Random Painting Recolours
Happy Holidays to all! While I'm proud that last year I finally managed to achieve a longtime goal of sharing a full TS2 Advent Calendar, I'm simply not gonna be able to pull it off this year. Nonetheless, the holidlay spirit has encouraged me to finish up and share a couple of things before the end of the year! I'll be sharing five little gifts over the next few arbitrary days. First up: A BUNCH of Maxis painting recolours.
One recolour each of A/B/C Stroke (yes, I still enjoy playing with these as three separate paintings) using vintage matchbook covers designed by Saul Bass for The Ohio Match Company.

That being said, Claude can be quite pretentious, usually in the sense that he attempts to appear more “cultured” or intelligent than he actually is. He can also be a bit spacey, especially if he’s working on a painting, pretty much forgetting (or ignoring) the things around him or even his own needs. And while he is usually pretty easygoing, he does tend to be rather sensitive to criticism, not so much on his artwork, but him as a person.

Twisted Claude is a roaming Twisted that will cover most of the screens (except for the UI) of all players every 60 seconds with ichor. The ichor is harmless but will be a severe hindrance to those looking for machines or being chased by Twisteds. Thankfully some spots won’t be covered however (usually 3 spots will be uncovered, but if you’re lucky, it might be up to 5 spots) allowing the players to have at least some visibility.
This is similar to Twisted Vee’s primary gimmick, however, unlike Vee, The ichor will disappear after 8 seconds.
Just like Twisted Gigi and Finn, Twisted Claude leaves an ichor trail when he walks.

Trivia
Claude’s name comes from Claude Monet, founder of Impressionism painting. While his last name comes from Andy Warhol.
Two of Claude’s quotes are references to Bob Ross. Specifically the “happy little accident” and “beat the devil out of it” quotes, which are things Bob Ross would commonly say on his show. His info card also references the former.
Claude enjoys video games when he’s not painting; Splatoon is a favorite of his, as is Okami. (Anachronistic, I know...)
Claude’s ichor cost references The Golden Ratio, a mathematical ratio that has been used in art for centuries.
Notably, his trinket does not have the color red on it. That is intentional, as it’s the only stat that doesn’t utilize stars.

hello! you inspire me to get back into art :)) the way you color is very harmonious & pretty! any tips on coloring/picking the right colors?

for colour, i'm still personally learning a lot but there's a couple things i think that go into it. putting a 'read more' thing bc i am a really big nerd about colour and ramble a looottttttt here
keep in mind everything i say here is not a rule, just suggestions... every single art "rule" always has an exception so what's most important is to have fun!!
before i say anything, here are some resources from people who are good teachers that explain things really well and i recommend more than my own word:
all of James Gurney and Marco Bucci's videos, that's where i started studying.
Ian Roberts on youtube also!! lots of great tips in short and digestible videos :) he talks about oil painting but it applies to other mediums. I don't oil paint
a nice interview w/ Angela Sung, my favourite quote is that you have a quota of bad paintings to make.
I would also recommend the book Artist's Master Series: Color and Light, however it's really dense. I'd only read once you really wanna get into the nitty gritty of colour theory. I'm only a third of the way through since starting it in february, i'm taking my time to absorb it because it's just so packed full of info to break down and practice
Gigi DG has been a huge inspo to me since I was a kid, Cucumber Quest was what got me into colour. they have some posts they made that are probably more comprehensible than me here and here
anyways my word dump!
1. VALUES!! our eyes quite literally perceive value and colour differently (cones detect colour & rods detect light), but colour becomes a blur without values. no values, no forms and shapes to grasp onto. technically you could put any colours you want if you understand value, even if the colours aren't very cohesive. that's the freedom you acquire once you get values down!
i practice values both in b&w and in colour. i recommend doing 2-value studies because it forces you to group a subject into its most simplified shapes. you can move on to 3 values after a bit too. basically what u learn here is that any well composed painting can be broken into 2-3 value groups. jennifer mcchristian has really amazing examples at how far you can go with this:
2. contrast draws the eye like crazy. we are fascinated when something is symmetrical and then one part of it isn't. we loveeeee big shape vs. small shape it's awesome. or when there's a lot of dark things but then one really bright thing. If you want something to read on it, I think Marco Mateu-Mestre's framed ink book series is where I studied?
3. don't take colour too literally because it's completely made up by us. we just group colours into categories so we can conceptualize them. we're really good at adjusting to say "that ball is red!" in any lighting circumstance, even though if you colour pick it, it's obviously not red. that's bc in that specific environment, whatever colour that ball Actually is, it's the closest thing in the room to a pure red. colour is always relative to its setting!
4. colour gamuts!! this ties into what i was saying before. a lot of paintings are just a small sliver of the colour wheel. this is a great blogspot post that makes more sense than me explaining gamuts
5. intention and story. when you choose a palette, are you doing it because it says something? communicates a mood? we are deeply moved by colour, it's a character of its own! (****doing palettes just bc they're super fun or u wanna try something new is also totally valid and i do that all the time LOL)
6. every colour on the spectrum can be found reflected on any object, even if it appears to be just one colour. think of pointillism: it's a million bits of different colours next to each other, but zoomed out they mix together to create beautiful hues. our screens are doing this all the time with RGB light. when an object reflects one wavelength (thus appearing as that colour) and absorbs others, it's not 100% absorbing the other wavelengths. there's always SOME other colours getting reflected too, because objects that 100% absorb every colour and reflect just one are very rare to find on Earth. colours are ping ponging all over the place all the time. so u can play with that variation :3
but singlehandedly the thing that helped me understand colour the most is going outside and plein air painting or doing object studies. there's no better learning tool than observing the world right in front of our eyes. other than that lots of trial & error and just trying new things to see if they work a lot. don't be shy to throw paint at a wall & see what happens, you'll figure things out along the way. I didnt rlly start studying colour theory till recent years, ik people who can't be bothered with theory and just figured it out thru practice and self-reflection, so find what works for u :)

✨ EDMON RAMPART (Amalthia's Version) ✨ You know I once swore to never draw him, well that was of course before he got the James Norrington treatment so it's the Alexsandr Kallus Effect for me again. Talk about from fuck this man to I wanna fuck this man.
Teeny weeny fandom salt and salt in general coming up so if you don't like that, you can go scroll down. There used to be a cut here but I removed it. I will always be polite, but I know WHEN to talk.
From now on, I will be calling my fanart "Amalthia's version". I hope I don't come across as tone deaf or insensitive about this, but I wish I was good at art.
I've seen posts that say "I wish artists would stop drawing [character name] with [this] or [that]" or "stop drawing [character] with [this]". While it's great to hear about your preferences, please bear in mind that at the end of the day, fanart CAN BE an artist's take on a character. For me, THIS is how I draw Edmon Rampart. This is with regard to the art style I developed and the color palette that I constantly use to keep up with my blog's theme.
Another ick is an ongoing issue in the TBB fandom. In my Hunter and Omega art, I did something I don't usually do, which is add a secondary light source. A few minutes after posting, I got an anon telling me to unwhitewash the characters. I immediately messaged one of my friends for their honest opinion and they said I don't whitewash the characters. I went on to the drawing file and tried to study my own drawing and see if I really did whitewashed the characters. Edit: There really are some artists who whitewash the characters and I was trying to do a SELF-CHECK bec maybe I'm one of them.
I found out that the thing that made the difference is the secondary light source that I added. This secondary light source is lighter in color than their skin, and it created the Contrast Effect. Due to the nature of the human eye and visual processing by the brain, there's an optical illusion that the same color will look different depending on the color beside it and/or the background. It's in psychology class, paying attention would help.
In addition to the secondary light, it could also be the brown background color that caused this effect. And before anyone goes, "are you sure?" Yes, I am. I sat with a Psychology major to discuss about this whole Contract Effect thing.
This does not only apply in colors, it could also be to objects, that why they say all things are relative. One thing could appear bigger or smaller depending upon the object beside it. One of the things they 'check' to see if a certain artist whitewashed a character is the size of the nose. Once again, please do apply Contrast Effect. Some artist really draw their characters stick-like so try to compare all the noses they had drawn in their entire lifetimes and maybe, just maybe they did draw the noses wide in comparison to their other artworks, it just looks like that because it's part of their art style.
Edit: Please do try to analyze things first before casting down your judgement.
It's so difficult to be an artist AND IN THIS FANDOM. We never seem to be enough. If we do the character with artistic freedom, you'll say "stop drawing them like that bec they don't have that in the show" and when we try to draw them as close to the show, you'll say "unwhitewash the characters". We are never good enough for you.
So yeah, I wish I was good at this.
