recipes, Fandom Wank, racism?

So at some point in 2007/2008, I found a thread of like... idk what was going on exactly. I think someone was talking about racism in the context of Fandom Wank, and then other people started butting in posting recipes. I saved the recipes, then at some point got annoyed by all the garbage in between them and copy pasted the whole damn thing, figuring I'd go back later and cut out the irrelevant posts and organize the recipes.

15 years later this lil old RTF has what I assume someone will call a goldmine look into the past.

So here it is. The entire thing. You'll see that at the beginning I separated out the recipes and then stopped bothering. I very honestly didn't look at all the comments so WARNING you might see shit you didn't want to see. But yeah. Also screen reader friends you probably want to skip this cuz there’s a ton of just like, written out html stuff. Okay here you go:

No Frost Chocolate Chip Cake 1 Pk. sour cream chocolate cake 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips 1/2 cup oil 4 eggs 1 cup sour cream 1 3oz instant chocolate pudding 1/2 cup warm water

Stir cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, and sour cream together. Add oil, chocolate chips, and warm water. Mix well. Bake 45-55 minutes at 350 degrees. Sprinkle with powder sugar. It's delicious!

1 cup self-rising flour 1 stick butter or margarine 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk 1 15oz can of yellow cling peaches in syrup

Melt butter in deep-dish skillet or casserole dish. Mix together milk, sugar and flour and pour over the butter. (Do not mix in!) Pour can of peaches, syrup and all, over the batter. (Do not mix in!) Place in oven at 350 degrees and bake until it's bubbly brown. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream.

~1 pound of some sort of cut up/ground up meat (hamburger works best, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand) ~1 pound or 1 1/2 pounds veggies of your choice (if you like broth, go with the first. if you like stuff, go with the second) ~1 can diced tomatoes (optional) ~6-9 cups water (depending on how much broth you like) ~1 bayleaf ~2 bullion cubes for every 3 cups of water (you beef for cow meats, and chicken for any other kinds of meats.) ~a dash of garlic ~a dash of salt ~a dash of pepper ~a dash of whatever other seasonings you like

STEP ONE: Fully cook meat in a frying pan. STEP TWO: Add water, veggies, tomatoes, bullion cubes, and bayleaf to either a crockpot on high or a "noodle pot" on 6. (I forget what they're really called, but they're the really big pots that are freaking impossible to lift if they are full of water) STEP THREE: once the water is bubbling a little (but not full out boiling), turn the heat down to low on the crockpot or 1 on the "noodle pot" and add the cooked meat. Add seasonings. STEP FOUR: Let cook for an hour and a half, stirring every ten minutes. STEP FIVE: Eat soup.

This recipie serves 6-8 people. The name tells you how my family discovered this recipie. ^_^

Race Wank? In Who Fandom? It's just as likely as you'd think… As Whomageddon rolls on, [info]doctorwho brings us another sterling gem. Or rather, two bright turds of wank, coupled together to form a synergistic pile of perfection.

First, [info]cringer1982 shares that he's written a very pointed letter to the BBC about how they have portrayed Asians in their recent episode Turn Left. He neglects to mention that he's white as the fresh driven snow. Irish, in fact.

BBC officials respond with a letter that has nothing to do with anything.

Some people don't see his point.

[info]myfavouriteplum is just as mad at Turn Left, but being Chinese, with an appropriately Chinese icon, people seem to be taking her protests a little more seriously.

Hilariously, seriously in fact.

It was a bit like if they had "Planet of the Africans" and had people dancing around with spears and singing "Mammy". Do. Not. Want.

Also, the anon meme continues to be offended by everything.

While I'm sure the racism debate on LJ and other fannish circles does a lot of good in that it makes people think about character portrayal and all that, those essays and discussions aren't going to change the show. So, good on the guy to complain to the actual people responsible for the things he found offensive.

2 teaspoons oil 1/2 cup sliced onion 2 to 2 1/2 cups cooked flat noodles 1 cup sliced mushrooms 1/2 shredded cooked ham or ham-in-a-can 2/3 cup cubed cheese (any kind) 1/2 teaspoon each salt, marjoram, and thyme 1/4 teaspoon pepper 2 tablespoons cracker crumbs 1 egg, beaten with 2 tablespoons milk 2 to 3 tablespoons grated cheese

Saute onion in oil 3 to 5 minutes. Combine in bowl with noodles, mushrooms, ham, cheese, and seasonings. Sprinkle buttered casserole dish with crumbs; spoon noodle mixture in. Top with egg mixture. Bake in 400 degree oven 20 minutes, sprinkle with grated cheese, bake 10 more minutes.

4 cups cooled, cooked rice 4 tbsp olive oil 2 large eggs 1 tsp salt pepper 2 tbsp soy sauce 2 chopped green onions

Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in wok or large skillet. Combine eggs, pepper, and salt in a bowl and wisk lightly, then scramble in wok. Put eggs aside in a bowl and clean out wok.

Heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in wok and add rice. Heat and stir rice for a few minutes, then add soy sauce and eggs and stir. Add green onions then remove from eat.

Peanut Grilled Chicken

2 tbsp peanut butter 1 tbsp lime juice 2 tsp soy sauce 1 clove chopped garlic 1/2 to 3/4 curry powder dash of red pepper 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Preheat grill to medium. Combine ingredients (except chicken) in a small bowl. 2.Place chicken on grill and brush half of the mixture on chicken. Cook for 6 minutes, then flip and brush with remaining sauce. Grill for 6 or 7 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink (170 degrees F).

Xiao Xingchen/ Song Lan: They obviously have a lot of trauma they're working through, but I'd like to think they and A-Qing will be a loving family in the long run 

One of them would be a good parent, the other wouldn't be a bad parent (B)-

Jiang Yanli/ Jin Zixuan: there's no canon reason for me putting them this low. Jin Zixuan just gives off a mediocre parent vibe to me (and we all know Jiang Yanli is the best)

Yushipei: Yushi Huang has good mom energy, and Pei Ming has been shown to be a not terrible mentor. I'd want the misogyny fully beaten out of him with a mace before I'd think he should have kids of his own though 

Lang Qianqiu/ Little Guy: at the very least, they're making sure Guzi is fed, clothed, washed, vaccinated, and has access to education. Neither of them know what they're doing, but I think Little Guy is good at faking it. I wish them luck in their upcoming custody battle  

You know what, surprise me/ I'll hear you out (C)-

Bingqiu: My first instinct is “no, do not bring kids into this,” but then I remembered tharnShen Qingqiu has a surprisingly decent track record? Like, Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turned out a lot more health than they did in the original novel, and though I wouldn't call him in a good place, Binghe is doing a lot better than Bingge. The wild card for me here is Luo Binghe because I have no idea how he'd be with kids

Quanyin: Yin Yu had a decent track record until he was pushed into snapping. I think rn, he needs a couple centuries of being a babygirl before he's ready to parent again. No idea how Quan Yizhen would do though 

Born to “dual income, no kids, rich uncles/aunts” (D)-

Fengqing: Feng Xin is canonically a bad dad. I know he's working on it, but it is what it is. Mu Qing has been shown to be decent with kids, but I think he’d have a melt down if he had to deal with the mess constantly. 

Hualian: I mean, Xie Lian has raised three kids at this point and one of them became a god, another became state preceptor and then sorta complicit in a genocide, and one became god AND committed genocide + he babysat a ghost king for months and didn't even realize that's what he was because it was a miracle if he remembered to feed him… so, a mixed bag. Hua Cheng may be schrodinger’s child hater, but I'm intrigued by the idea of him raising kids just because I want to know how his own childhood would influence his parenting abilities. They should probably just stick to babysitting for now though 

Mingling: Liu Mingyan is too busy writing gay porn to be dealing with kids, and I just can't imagine Sha Hualing as a mom

Beefleaf: Do I need to explain this one?

Mobeishang: Shang Qinghua should not be put in any position where he has to teach someone about consent (Binghe’s early attempts at flirting being a prime example of why that's a bad idea). I also think Mobei Jun is still working on the whole “why hitting people is not cool” thing. 

QiJiu: I think the original timeline is a prime example of how they're just not in a place to be raising kids 

Jun Wu/ Mei Nianqing: Xie Lian would like a refund on his adopted father figures. They had one kid and he only made it to age 20 because he was cursed to not die

Listen. I know most of the earlier one piece movies aren't really canon, but I am obsessed with the implications of Saga in the Cursed Holy Sword, because he really adds a layer to Zoro's relationships with his rivals.

Okay. First, there's Kuina. His first rival. The one he can never beat. The promise to become the greatest. Untouchable, indestructible, until she isn't. Wado Ichimonji.

Then there's Saga. His next rival. They're more equally balanced. They're both orphans. There's an understanding there. A more even footing that he didn't have with Kuina. A gifted short sword instead of an inherited katana.

And Sanji. The proof of Zoro's rule of three. Twice over, in fact, third rival, third son. Never gives Zoro an inch in a fight, but doesn't hesitate to give him food afterwards. He doesn't fight with a sword, so there's no blade shared between them. Instead there's a much heavier promise.

Kuina dies. Saga dies. Both so close to Zoro, and he couldn't even do anything. Of course Zoro's worried when Sanji boards the sea train by himself. Of course he pushes Sanji out of the way at Thriller Bark. Of course he's angry with Sanji when he runs off to Whole Cake.

Zoro's already mourned his first two best friends rivals. Does he really have to go through that again?

Maybe Kuina wouldn't have fallen if Zoro had never asked her to fight him. Maybe if Zoro had been a little better he could have saved Saga. Maybe Zoro will have to kill Sanji himself.

DAY 84: enrolled in the gossip wars

Can we just take a second to appreciate the growth of Ava’s protective instinct towards Beatrice over these past 2 seasons because it’s suPERb. In season 1 we see the first time Ava reacted, completely subconsciously, to Beatrice in danger

at this point she’s not aware of her emotional connection to the halo’s power, and has way less control of what happens - so even though she does shatter the bullet and save Bea’s life, she also blows everything in the room backwards including herself. Even Beatrice gets pushed back (although super softly) as you can see her recover briefly to run over to Ava after

THEN we start to get spicier protection in season 2 when Ava does react with more understanding of the halo’s power and her feelings towards Beatrice, and not only does she accomplish a much harder goal (poofing away a demon???) 

but this time Ava able to handle the blast AND it doesn’t get anywhere close to Beatrice. She does clearly have a blowing back effect on people next to her (cue Miguel/Michael folding like a lawn chair part 1) but Ava is learning to control the power of the halo and how to use it to protect specific people... or in her case specifically Beatrice

and then of COURSE because third times the charm, the last one is my favorite. This time it’s intentional, Beatrice knows Ava can control the power and she tells Ava to let go, and Ava nods AND pulls Beatrice in telling her to hold on 

WHICH if we look at past experience showing Ava having a forceful blast that surrounds her after using her power, her instinct should initially be to tell Beatrice (and Michael I guess) to run so that they don’t get hurt, but she knows at this point that whatever power she releases won’t hurt Beatrice because Ava would never let it. I mean look at Michael ! ! ! 

Dude folds like a lawn chair (PART 2) as if he were one of the possessed enemies Ava is releasing a blast towards. Even though Ava thinks logically she’ll be able to protect both of them, her internal instincts are only thinking of protecting Beatrice in the moment and the halo’s blast reflects that.

Bonus is watching them walk away without a second glance at anyone because to them, as long as they’re both safe, it’s mission accomplished:

Ok, I think I have a pretty good idea of why a lot of Akechi's dialogue is... like that.

So, even before his confidant truly started, I noticed that he has a real knack for directing the flow of a conversation. This is very fitting for someone who is both a detective and skilled at interviews - when there is a topic and a goal, Akechi is in his element.

All this to say, he's actually kind of controlling when it comes to conversational flow. He probes for information, or turns the conversation around to a particular topic, usually the Phantom Thieves. He manages to take a few of Joker's dialogue options and spin them so they sound mildly incriminating in the context he's placed them in - the only way to truly get around this is to pick answers that feign indifference, and even then, that's more than a bit telling. He's clearly very good at this kind of thing.

But then, we get conversations where either Joker does something he didn't expect, or else he doesn't have a particular goal in mind - and the conversation stutters. In the first instance, Joker does something (a particularly egregious example is putting his glasses on him and fluffing his hair in rank 3) which both leaves him wrong-footed and no longer in perfect control of the situation. He just kind of... freezes, for awhile. It's hilarious. He has no idea how to respond.

He picks up control again in the phone call afterwards, having chosen to play into it, turning this "fooling the crowds" into a kind of game or secret between them. Nice save.

But in instances where there isn't an obvious topic and the goal is somewhat nebulous, for instance, that one Leblanc scene, it becomes pretty apparent that Akechi doesn't have the right "script" to go off of. Again, it's particularly notable in that scene, because I'm fairly sure he didn't have any specific reason to be at Leblanc, other than him looking for a quiet spot now that public opinion has turned on him. And because there isn't anything specific he's digging for, he kind of just ends up throwing things at the wall to see what will stick. Probing for any kind of recognizable reaction that he can jump on and work with, and that just doesn't really happen in this scene.

He references Sae, a woman in a respectable position, to Sojiro, but instead of that netting a welcome, it earns his ire, given Sae's recent actions against him. He then tries to greet Joker, his... rival? friend? enemy? person who at least seems to somewhat enjoy spending time with him? But Joker's responses are somewhat short, and Akechi practically wilts. He tries to commiserate by oversharing. He tries to involve Futaba and reaches out for the only topic of interest he can think of around "young people". He compliments the coffee. He compliments Joker. He tries to invoke that connection between them. None of it is really sticking, nor does it serve as a jumping off point for him to steer the conversation, or even really start one.

So, he basically just ends up having a one-sided chat with himself and then leaves. Hilarious. Also a little sad, if I'm being honest. It's really giving "guy with no friends who only knows how to speak to adults" energy. If there's no specific purpose to the exchange, or he is not in control of its direction, he seems to be kind of out of his depth. He succeeds only in being a little awkward and confusing, more than anything.

Out of everything, my favorite "We didn't mean to make 'em gay" Atlus moment with Shuake and P5R is how not engaging in any of the romantic routes, overall, doesn't affect the gameplay at all. You even get the best White Day bit with Soujiro + Ryuji choco, as a treat.

But not liking Akechi enough by either not completing his confidant or not choosing the right options means you don't get the complete True Ending. The game itself punishes you for not letting Akiren go to their pecualiar Akeshu-brand dates, or for not making him admit how much he cares about their proposal promise.

I hate them.

Making super niche content catering only to me, but I decided to draw the Old Hillsbrad Foothills - Renault Mograine and Sally Whitemane interaction - however put them closer to the ages they have during the same event in "Ashbringer" where I assume Renault is ~15 and so is she. Also baby Darion who is a kid and he was present for the creation of The Ashbringer.

Yes, my math is probably off, I just assume Renault would be a teen here and if not, yeah this is just super self indulgent stuff. I wanted to draw 15-16 year old Renault and Sally and also a baby Darion.
