Plum blossoms in the snow (I)
Part 4: April and May (I)
We have gotten to the mid point of the story.
Disclaimer: I try to keep things objective (if I include my personal opinion, it’s in cursive and in brackets), but I’m biased because of the XZ friendly content I’m usually exposed to and by my own views of their situation. Open to discussion, but please make sure you’ve enough information to do so.
In March, slowly but surely, the incident was put behind. After the anger comes the aceptance, so to say. With so many people’s inputs, his fans started to let the topic cool down, while giving him their support.
So everything was coming back to their place and seemed a lot calmer than a month before. This didn’t sit well with some people.
Antis’ attacks
The antis were quite active, trying to spark a conflict one after another, because the topic had been silent for a little bit. Remember: more interactions, more followers, more money so ignore the antis always (unless they attack you, if so, report them).
To name a few:
On early April, they placed so many negative reviews on CQL in Douban that the score fell from 7′9 to 7′3. However, people didn’t react as they wanted them to, and instead the score rose steadily back to 7′7 (as of now).
When a brand of a product that XZ endorses admitted to economic fraud, antis attacked the brand, the product and XZ. Their argument was that because XZ is so popular, more people bought the product he endorses, thus contributing to the fraud. Some fans fell for it, protesting that what the brand does had nothing to do with XZ.
Some of the antis pretended to be XZ’s fans, and with that “disguise”, attacked other netizens, prompting a statement from XZ’s fans support group. In the statement, they reject this kind of behaviour and insist that everyone should be careful with what they say and how they act.
All of this, along with spreading rumors, was trying to revive the discussion and the fan war to get more attention and followers (people have a short span of attention, especially on the internet), and profit from it.
Around mid April, both w/ibo and bil/bili blocked antis’ accounts, making antis say that XZ’s company must have paid them to do so.
Endorsements
It was positive though that in April he started to appear again in commercials and banners.
Tumblr media
(The one on the left is a commercial from February, I couldn’t find another one with a better resolution from April. By the way, from an interview done before New Year’s Eve for that brand, we get these two little moments: 1 and 2).
You may have noticed that the endorsement for the drink it’s a joined endorsement with another celebrity. Antis tried to pit the two group of fans against one another, but fans didn’t fell for it (the learning process was hard and long, but it was showing results).
Remember the one from the right. That’s a funny one, later in July.
Plum blossoms and stars
In April, XZ reappeared again in w/ibo with that drawing of plum blossoms from his Oasis account (on 200410). Previously, he had shared a post for the National Mourning Day for the people who’ve died because of the COVID-19, and before that, it was a post from February 22, before 2/27.
Tumblr media
There are 4 main flowers in Chinese culture (one for each season), and each has a widely known meaning attached to them.
Tumblr media
Plum blossoms are one them, and often represent resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, because it’s a flower that blooms a brilliant red in the middle of winter and snow. It can also be a harbinger of spring.
Tumblr media
So his first message after all of this mess to be one of perseverance and hope。 I personally find it very meaningful as to what his attitude towards the entertainment industry is.
This also calmed a lot of his fans, who had been worried of him succumbing to the antis and retiring from the industry. There had been a lot of rumours saying the he had got depression from all of this conflict, and this update effectively silenced those.
A few days later he sang a cover of the song “The hymn of the red plum blossom” for an online event “Beautiful China”. It’s a classical opera song from a film, very patriotic and well-chosen for such an event, but it could also represent his situation with the “coming of spring”. Musicians later analysed this song and deemed it too difficult for him to sing (he doesn’t have enough range for this kind of songs), but praised him for his spirit to try new, difficult things, and to bring classic songs to young people: “he’s like the plum blossom in winter: persistent against difficulties”.
XZ updated his Oasis again late in April, with a drawing inspired by posters from his university days: “hope”, “perseverance”, “acquisition”.
Tumblr media
(This is the picture he updated on 200420, and below is a screeshot from the post in which he explains that those are drawings from his university days).
Tumblr media
Reporting to the police
On 21st of April, XZ’s Studio issued a statement.
3 accounts (among others) had used XZ’s photos and videos to slander his name, so the studio had collected the evidence and had turned it all to the police. The accounts had been spreading rumours about him for months (about him dating other guys, plastic surgery) and insulting him for his acting skills and lack of respect towards women.
What we find most surprising is that, even in the face of a lawsuit, the antis didn’t relent and kept on trying to “black” (slander) him.
Those 3 accounts were, in their own words, chased and insulted by XZ’s fans, so they wanted to report XZ’s studio in return, for damaging their reputation.
(I don’t know exactly how this ended. I think the lawsuit is still going on, since these things take time, but the general outcome of this seems good for him. Most of the comments I’ve seen goes like “xz was just waiting for the right moment to act”, “staying silent and apologizing while collecting proof of a crime”.)
“Light Spot”
On April 25, XZ released a new song, and remarked that he thanks all well-meaning criticism and guidance, and that he’ll continue to grow from here. The song is Light Spot. There was again some drama related to this song, antis never take a rest it seems.
XZ’s apology
That week, XZ posted on w/ibo, apologizing for the troubles caused and asking people not to hurt others.
The source of the problem this time were rumours of him participating in HJ’s variety show (HJ is the host from Happy Camp with curly hair). Rumours said that he had invited XZ to participate in his new variety show on his own initiative. Haters attacked him for this, in order to prevent XZ from going to the program (remember that some of the antis’ objective is to make XZ retire from entertainment industry).
The TV station had to release a statement saying that XZ won’t participate in HJ’s show. XZ must have seen all the commotion and posted his comment asking people not to hurt HJ because of him.
Tracking down the antis
The leader of all of this commotion with HJ was a w/ibo user (let’s call her “B”) that had been a XZ hater for a long while, and her account was banned soon after this. Along with hers, many others hater accounts were blocked by w/ibo, prompted by XZ’s studio, according to other antis.
Though their accounts were blocked, B tried to come back (and even with the same username), and attacked XZ again for making “false donations” to Wuhan, and accusing him of being immoral. XZ’s Studio finally posted definite proof that their donation had been real.
B accused him of being a racist and having “abnormal sexual orientation”. She also managed to make her accusations a hot topic on w/ibo quite frequently.
This hater, with others, surprised many people in their tenacity and persistence to defame XZ. People analysed her behaviour and tendencies and extracted conclusions like these about this kind of “professional” antis:
She knows how the entertainment industry works, so she works in it or has sources inside the industry.
She knows what kind of topic will attract attention from other users.
She has good resources and is very intelligent and manipulative at the same time, so she is capable of making two groups unite against a third, for example.
She’s likely to cooperate with XZ’ competitors to spread rumors about him, to allow his competitors to get more endorsements. She incites haters and antis to boycott XZ endorsements in order to do this.
(I was asked previously if YH couldn’t have participated too in the smear campaign, to gain more endorsements for WYB. At the time, I’d been very sure that these kind of things are too much of a hassle, but now I’m not so sure that no one would do this. I mean, I don’t think YH would do this for WYB, since he is very popular and successful on his own, but for other YH’s employees or other companies for their idols... I’m not so sure anymore. But this is all especulation from me).
She often has material that a “normal” fan can’t get access to. Among the fans, there are some that are called fan representatives. They can often access the companies and agencies, so they have more information and images about a star than any other. Of course, they can’t spread it if they stop being their fan, but that doesn’t stop B from buying pictures from them.
There are also “spies” inside the fandom, who get information about a fandom from the inside.
So, in short, a great part of the general public likes the rumours  and the stories she makes up, it doesn’t matter if they are true or not, and that gives her more followers.
Before XZ, she attacked the male leads from The Guardian (ZYL and BY), and used the same tactic.
(Which confirms our theory that this storm will pass for XZ, most likely because she moves on to attacking another person, but that’s a whole other story).
So at the end of April, w/ibo started to ban all the accounts that spread malicious and hate content, the numerous accounts of B among them, even though all of them had been ticked by w/ibo before (like the blue tick in twitter).
Even after being reported to the police, the account doesn’t seem to stop, making people suspect that there is money behind of this and that it’s not an account managed by one person, but rather a team. They’ll do the same to whoever is popular at the moment, so it’s not even personal, it doesn’t matter who it is, XZ, ZYL, BY, whoever.
(I don’t like conspiracy theories... if there’s no data to back them up, it all remains speculation, and it spreads more information that no one knows it’s true or not. However, this whole thing with the antis is very strange. I suppose will see what happens once XZ comes back to limelight).
Haters are also something every idol has to face.
The haters dig into an idol’s past, and make up rumours based on that. For example, XZ had a gf while he was studyinghis degree, but they broke up. Haters then said that it was because of this that he went to South Korea and got plastic surgery (false, some people do have this kind of amazing genes), and that’s why he’s so good looking. Since lies are mixed in truth, some people, especially those who just know his name, or that he’s an actor, have trouble picking it apart.
Rumours also place idols in a tight position. If they don’t answer, people will think the rumours are true. But if they sue them, haters aren’t afraid either, because the process is long, and in this process they are still getting views and new followers. It may also shift the attention to them, which is exactly what they want.
All in all, the world is complex, but even in the middle of snow you may find a little plum blossom.

33 Usher Street chapter one script, First Draft
I’m planning to go back and do a major revision on this, but i wanted to share what i have for the time being! This was part of last years NaNoWriMo project, about Jewish (and otherwise) vampire hunters in an alternate history 1920s, including a transgender golem and an intersex dhampir as the joint protagonists.
What follows is an unfinished draft of a comic script intended for my own reference as the artist. Some art directions are absent, intended to be filled in later; or reflected a lack of a particular concern about how the panel looked.
Questions and comments are welcome! I’d love to get some other folks’ ideas about what needs changing. Please excuse any formatting issues! This didn’t copy-paste so well.
Italics outside of quotation marks indicate art directions and page layout.
[Square brackets] indicate sound effects (SFX), signage, captions, or other non-bubbled matters of lettering.
“Quotation marks” indicate speech bubbles.
1. Three panel page.
1.1. Full-width view of a bus (reference 1920s buses) puttering along beneath and above autumn leaves.
[CAPTION: September 24, 1923]
1.2. A thick black full-width border. Repeated on the following pages at full-width size, same height, to be indicated as BORDER
[BORDER: SFX: Bus engine chugging]
1.3. Interior of bus. Driver, assorted passengers, and towards the rear, SOLOMON “SOL” SZOMBATHY. He is a slight young man in a jacket and oversized “Oxford bags”,. His hair is thick, black, and curly (3B type); his features Ashkenazic but on the darker side. He holds a plain-looking wooden cane. Behind him, occupying the last row of seats, is a long, coffin-like box or chest, sealed with rope or cord.
2. Six panels.
2.1. A close-up of Solomon. He seems lost in thought, leaning against the bus window.
2.2. [BORDER: SFX: THUMP!]
2.3. The bus bumps, Sol is jolted upwards.
2.4. Sol settles, squeans emanating.
2.5 Sol looks out the window.
2.6 Exterior, the wooded roadside. A sign reads: [WELCOME TO Jackson, Mass. EST. 1842]. Perhaps the bus is visible here, chugging past the sign.
3. Six panels.
3.1. The bus stop. Perhaps a sign indicating that’s what it is. The bus has stopped.
Driver: “JaaaAAACKson station!”
3.2. A tail extends from the speech bubble from the previous panel, to overlay the BORDER. Driver: “Last stop!”
3.3. Passengers exiting the bus. Sol is lifting the box.
3.4. Same as 3.3, with more movement ahead of Sol. He is pulling the box, struggling.
3.5. Same as 3.3, the bus now empty of other passengers. The driver is standing, impatiently watching Sol. Sol is half-way down the aisle, perspiring with effort.
3.6. Same as 3.3, Sol finally exiting the bus, with his box.
Driver: “That everything?”
4. Two panels
4.1. Sol, wiping sweat with a kerchief.
SOL: “Yes, thank you. And—”
4.2. As in 3.2, a tail extends from the previous bubble into the BORDER, which fades from black to white.
SOL, stylized as the chapter title : “Can You Tell Me The Way To Usher Street?”
[Credits:
A 33 Usher Street story
Written and Illustrated by K.P.S. Roman Religious Consultation by Quell Nessuno]
5. Six panels. Wide, double, double, border.
5.1. Sol, walking along a Jackson street, dragging the box behind him on wheels and hoisting his cane over his shoulder. The city is sparsely populated in spite of its size; apartment buildings and businesses line the streets, but there are few people visible. The buildings have the sagging, unsettled look of those built on swampland.
5.2. More of Sol, rounding a corner and excusing himself past some locals, including ADRIAEN TEN BOOM, a stogie between his lips.
Sol: “Pardon me!”
5.3. Sol, looking up at a street sign for the corner of [MARSH ST] and [WASHINGTON ST]. A car putters past. WILHEMINA FAWKES is in the driver’s seat.
5.4. Sol continues past some kids playing marbles. He’s starting to visibly sweat. An older black man [ALEISTER JONES] watches the game from a stoop, his gloved hand resting on his cheek.
5.5. Sol, stopping at another corner. A conspicuously incognito figure [CONSTANCE WRIGHT] watches from behind a newspaper. A sledgehammer leans against her side.
Sol: “Ah!”
5.6. BORDER, Sol’s speech bubble extends from 5.5.
Sol: “Here we are!”
6.
6.1. The sign for the corner of [WASHINGTON ST] and [USHER ST]
6.2. Sol moves a bit more speedily down the street, indicated by hites. PLUTON, a large black cat with only one eye watches.
6.3. Sol, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket, exhaling a panting puff. Pluton is visible following behind at a distance.
Sol: “Let’s see…”
6.4. Sol looks up at the numbers of the buildings. He passes the unremarkable numbers twenty-one and twenty-three. Pluton cocks his head.
6.5. BORDER. Sol’s speech bubble tails from 6.3.
Sol: “Number... Thirty-Three?”
6.6. Sol stops before a row of thorny bushes. The speech bubble trails from 6.5. Pluton is posed as if looking around the tail of the speech bubble, to see Sol.
Sol: “Oh!”
7.
7.1. Sol, standing before 33 Usher Street. The building is assembled from a mix of newer construction and old ruins with the masonry at diagonals to each other, as if someone happened upon the leaning remains of a graystone castle and chose to join it together in red brick. The 33 is quite large and visible on the exterior of the building, and a less-legible sign hangs beneath it.
7.2: BORDER, a caption (Sol): “There it is.”
8.
8.1. A close-up of the sign beneath the 33 from 7.1. It now more clearly reads: [USHER STREET HOUSE OF ANTIQUITIES AND CURIOS]
8.2. BORDER. A speech bubble trails down to 8.3.
Sol: “That wasn’t... so hard to find... after all.”
8.3. Sol walks up the path, while Pluton, indicated by tracing lines, bounds up into the building out of Sol’s view and onto a windowsill. He has set down the box.
9.
9.1. Pluton, pausing at an open window, looks out imperiously at the approaching Sol.
9.2. Interior of the room from 9.1. A view from the back of JAMES “JIM” CULLOCK III. The room is full of talismans, wards, and assorted scraps of paper framed upon the walls.
Jim: “Yes, that would be him.”
9.3. A hand [that of MARIE BOSLEY] sets a Victrola to play.
Marie: “I’ll leave the interview to you, then.”
9.4. A partial view. Pluton bounds down into the room. Enough of Marie is visible that she can be seen cranking the Victrola. Jim appears to be fussing at something invisible on his sleeve.
Jim: “If you’re certain.”
9.5. [BORDER: SFX: the opening lyrics of Marion Harris’s “After You’re Gone”]
9.6. Jim’s feet descending the stairs.
10.
10.1. Deliberate parallel to 9.6. Sol coming up to the front door. The lyrics of the music continue from 9.5, and there on until otherwise indicated.
10.2. Sol’s hand raised, to the door, there is a simple bronze door knocker.
10.3. [BORDER: SFX: KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.]
10.4. Sol waits at the door.
10.5. Same framing as 10.4; Sol looks back at the box.
10.6. Sol looks back at the door, anxious, patting his head with his kerchief.
11.
11.1. The door swings open. Inside stands Jim. A tall, older white man with the slender yet solid look of a longtime dancer or a runner, clad in two parts of a mismatched three-piece suit: striped trousers under a diamond-patterned vest, with bow tie. His hair is close-cropped, styled fashionably, and streaked with gray.
Jim: “Good afternoon...”
11.2. BORDER. A trailing tail from Jim’s line in 11.1.
Jim: “...young man.”
11.3. Sol holds out a crumpled envelope.
Sol: “The Rev. Dr. Hammer sent me, sir?”
11.4. Jim takes the letter in his left hand.
11.5. Jim looks at the letter.
11.6. Jim tosses the letter over his shoulder, smiling.
Jim: “James Cullock III, son.”
12.
12.1. Jim, extending his right hand to shake.
Jim: “But, call me Jim.”
12.2. Sol, returning the handshake.
Sol: “Sir, my name’s Solomon.”
12.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Mr. Grundy, then?”
12.4. Sol looks tired of this joke already.
Sol: “No, sir. I was born on a Saturday.”
12.5. Jim laughs
Jim: “You’re the right one, alright!”
12.6. Jim motions Solomon in.
Jim: “Come in, Mr. Szombathy, and have a seat.”
13. Three panels, the top full-width but narrow, as is the border: the main action is 13.2.
13.1. The foyer of 33 Usher St. The room is set up for greeting visitors and entertaining, and Sol is already seated opposite Jim.
13.2. Full view of Solomon, seated and without his coat. He is wearing a tight-fitting sweater, giving him the silhouette of a paintbrush when paired with his trousers.
NOTE: Use the antiquated “Rumania” spelling whenever it appears on the page.
[CAPTION: Solomon “Sol” Szombathy Age: 20
Born: 10/31/1903
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Vandalia
Background: Hungarian/Rumanian Jewish, First Generation American
Likes: Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazines, spicy foods, cooking.
Dislikes: Running, swimming, high noon.]
13.3. BORDER.
Jim: “So, Solomon Szombathy. I understand from my old friend Matteus—he wired me here before you arrived—that you have had quite a remarkable encounter, of late.”
14. Reversal of 13.
14.1. BORDER.
Sol: “Just so, sir. I am told it is within your area of expertise?”
14.2. Full view of James, seated and with his legs crossed.
[CAPTION: James “Jim” Cullock III
Age: 56
Born: 2/18/1867
Hometown: Roan Mountain, Nickajack.
Background: Scottish-American
Hobbies: Gardening, Morning Constitutionals
Profession: Antiques, Estate Management, ???]
Jim: “By which you mean…”
14.3. Pluton enters the room.
Pluton: “Miaou.”
15.
15.1. Sol watches as Pluton approaches.
Sol: “Vampires, sir. A vampire. Just the one.”
15.2. Pluton inspects Sol, who is now focused on Jim.
Jim: “You have no need to worry about being doubted on that subject here, Mr. Szombathy.”
15.3. BORDER.
Sol: “Ah, yes. Dr. Hammer told me that you are in the business of…?”
15.4.
Jim: “Formally, the Usher Street House of Antiques and Curios is in the business of the management of estates belonging to those who passed without clearly defined wills, or without leaving behind heirs to manage their estates.”
15.5. Pluton approaches Jim.
Jim: “Informally, better say genuinely, we are in the business of public health. To deal with the threat of vampires to the general public.”
16.
16.1. Pluton settles down at Jim’s feet.
Jim: “Tell me, what are your opinions on the morality and ethics of vampirism?”
16.2
Sol: “Well, in my father’s collection, there was a commentary on the Sefer Hasidim, which says that a person who must consume the blood of another human being… should be pitied, for it is in her nature and her needs to survive, and if she should make recompense to her victim, should be treated with compassion as a member of the community.”
16.3 BORDER
Sol: “But that’s regarding a living vampire, what some call an estrie, and the exceptions made for one who must violate kashrus for the sake of pikuach nefesh. And Eleazar Rokeach said that one should stop up the mouth of a deceased estrie, to prevent her from feasting on the living, after death.”
16.4
Sol: “From a strictly Halakhic standing, it is permissible for the living to eat as they must to remain living, but the deceased are deceased, and are forbidden to do so.”
16.5
Sol: “So, I think that, ultimately, it depends on the circumstances, case by case. It requires careful but decisive investigation.”
16.6. Jim, close-up, a scrutinizing gaze.
Jim: “But Mr. Szombathy, you are not solely the books you read.”
17.
17.1. BORDER.
Jim: “What was your experience with a vampire? How do you feel about the morals and ethics?”
17.2.
Sol: “I… my family lived in Pittsburgh, you see. Since I was born.”
17.3.
Sol: “My mother had been pregnant, just newly so, when they came here, from the old country.”
Jim: “Which…?”
Sol: “Transyvlania. In Rumania.”
17.4. Sol is in silhouette in the foreground. We see KÁLMAN SZOMBATHY, a Hungarian Jewish man nearing middle age.
Sol: “My father—he was always very learned. In many ways. And he had acquaintances, friends, contacts? Who knew….”
17.5. Sol, younger, looking out the window at his father, who is outside with a candle in hand at night.
Sol: “Strange things. Secrets. Mysticism.”
17.6. Sol, a bit older, looking at his father examining a book. A diagram of the sefirot is visible—ish-style, or yosher?
Sol: “I saw so much of it, growing up. I didn’t think it was strange.”
18.
18.1. Sol, almost his present age, sitting by the window with a book, while his father talks with some baalei shem.
Sol: “Just… another thing we didn’t talk about with go—gentiles.”
Jim: “Like this… golem?”
18.2. The golem, standing with toddler Sol. It looks more lumpy and vaguely defined than when we see it later.
Sol: “Yes. It was around before I was born. Like a caretaker or guardian. A nanny.”
18.3. Sol sitting, reading a book aloud. His narration is not bubbled, but bleeds into the scenery.
Sol: “I would talk to it. Just… talk to it. My parents, my father only told it what to do.”
18.4. Sol looking up at the golem.
Sol: “And you may think it silly, sir, but sometimes, I thought that it spoke back.”
18.5. The golem looking down at Sol.
Jim: “Golems are said to be mute, are they not?”
18.6.
Sol: “So I am told.”
19.
19.1. A bedridden person.
Sol: “This summer, people started taking ill. A doctor came to visit, every one. But people just got worse. Wasting away.”
19.2. A doctor at the door, tipping his hat. He looks flushed, and has a distant expression.
Sol: “My parents had boarders. Renting rooms. And the doctor, the physician, came to call on one.”
19.3. Kálman stopping the golem, which seems determined to approach the “doctor” and has an upset expression.
Sol: “The golem kept… my parents said it was menacing him.”
19.4. Sol’s mother, DOINA URS-SZOMBATHY, shooing the golem from a door. Doina is about the same age as Kálman, with darker features.
Sol: “And it happened, the same day, that the Reverend Doctor Hammer was visiting. Resting, from traveling. He knew my father, somehow. The golem had been bothering him, too. Trying to push him around.”
Jim: “Hm.”
19.5. Sol, looking down.
Sol: “Which I guess is why he didn’t notice the physician was actually undead.”
19.6. Sol’s parents, reclining on a couch, resting their heads against one another. The shadow of the vampire looms over them.
Sol: “Which was why my parents thought it safe to rest, as well.”
20.
20.1.
Sol: “My parents—they were in the other room, you see. They had left the golem with me. Because it kept bothering everyone. Getting in the way.”
20.2.
Sol: “I guess the vampire got greedy, though. It came into my room. I was reading.”
20.3. The vampire reaching for Sol, who looks shocked. It is an upiór type, with a sharp, barbed tongue instead of fangs.
Sol: “I only realized what it was, up close. Too late for my parents.”
20.4. The golem’s clay fist swings at the vampire, sending it sprawling.
Sol: “But not too late for me.”
20.5. The vampire is sent flying across the room, slamming into the wall.
20.6. The Rev. Dr. MATTEUS HAMMER, a wild-eyed trans man of mixed Scandanavian and indigenous heritage, with a shock of white hair, in his pajamas and brandishing a sword and pistol.
Sol: “The fight woke up Dr. Hammer.”
21.
21.1. Splash of Hammer shooting the vampire in the heart.
[CAPTION: THE REVEREND DOCTOR MATTEUS J. HAMMER
Age: Like, So Old
Born: A Man, In Spite Of What The Nurse Said Hometown: Tarrytown, NY
Background: Finnish/Swedish-American and Lenape, He’s Pretty Sure Fears: God And Nawt Else, Also Centipedes
Enjoys: Fresh-Baked Bread]
21.2. The golem stands between Hammer and Sol, protecting Sol.
22.
22.1.  Hammer looking over Sol.
Sol: “The Reverend Doctor, he checked me over. Asked me a lot of questions about what happened. About me.”
22.2.
Sol: “Checked everyone else, too. Everyone who... survived.”
22.3.
Sol: “And he told me… all things considered, I should come here.”
22.4. Jim, pensive.
Jim: “To report on your experiences? I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through, your loss, but….”
22.5. Sol, surprised.
Sol: “No, sir. He sent me here for me to seek employment.”
22.6. BORDER.
Sol: “As stated in the letter you dropped upon the ground.”
23.
23.1. Jim, flushed, looks at the envelope.
23.2. Jim, bends over to pick up the letter.
23.3. He dusts it off.
23.4. He opens the envelope.
23.5. He begins to read.
23.6. BORDER Hammer: “Dear Jim. Give the lad a job. Do something about the golem. Remember: that matter in Chattanooga. Or I will tell Marie. Sinc. The Rev. Dr. Matteus J. Hammer.”
24.
24.1.
Jim: “Well, then I suppose that this is an employment interview, although....”
24.2. Jim sighs through his nose.
24.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Chattanooga, eh?”
24.4. Jim: “In that case, we had best find the best place for you.”
24.5.
Jim: “Let me explain a bit more about what we do here.”
24.6.
Jim: “Through a number of agents, contacts, and former customers, we are apprised of events that may require our attention. Our more ordinary business provides both cover and funding for this.”
25.
25.1. Jim, facing Sol, sidelong view.
Jim: “We employ both in-office experts, and traveling agents who visit locations where vampirism is believed to be at play.”
25.2. Sol, headlong view.
Jim: “What qualifies you to act in the field, rather than from behind a desk?”
25.3. BORDER. Sol’s speech trails to .4.
Sol: “Well, sir, as a dhampir,”
25.4. Jim, headlong view. Two ghosts are visible, framing him: RODERICK and MADELINE USHER. They are the spirits of two young WASPs nearly identical in appearance, with large eyes, wild fine hair, and aquiline noses, clad in shrouds.
Sol: “I can see the dead.”
26.1. Roderick and Madeline notice Sol is looking at them.
Jim: “...”
26.2. Roderick waves coyly at Sol. Madeline seems disinterested.
Jim: “You would be far from the first to claim that you are able to see the unseen. Do you have any proof?”
26.3.
Sol: “Outside of the word of Dr. Hammer…?”
Jim: “If you please.”
26.4. Jim, an eyebrow cocked.
Sol: “I don’t suppose you know that you have twin siblings hovering in the air around your study?”
26.5. Jim looks up at Roderick.
26.6. Jim looks up at Madeline.
27.1.
Jim: “You will, I trust, forgive my skepticism. Even in this trade, there is always room for incredulity.”
27.2. Jim lets out a puff of a sigh.
27.3.
Jim: “I myself have found that what one sees is not always what is.”
27.4. A view of Sol, from Jim’s perspective. Sol and the room are crawling with transparent insects of imaginative and unnatural anatomy. Take care to note that they are only visible on surfaces of a solid, continuous color.
27.5. BORDER.
Sol: “Do you find that very often?”
27.6. Jim, looking weary, dusts one ‘bug’ off the table.
Jim: “For many a year.”
28.
28.1.
Jim: “But, here, you said that you were a dhampir! How comes that to happen?”
28.2. Sol, obviously embarrassed.
Sol: “In the usual manner, sir.”
28.3. BORDER.
Jim: “Which is to say, one of your parents—your birth parents—was a vampire?”
28.4.
Sol: “My mother’s first husband. After his death. My father, I suppose, my stepfather, was his brother.”
28.5.
Jim: “My condolences.”
28.6. Sol, holding the cane tightly.
Sol: “I don’t think of it much. It wasn't his fault.”
29.
29.1. Jim stands up abruptly.
Jim: “Quite! Not his fault. Not his fault. The majority of vampires—people want someone to blame, you know?”
29.2. Jim begins to walk out the door, motioning ‘come here’ to Sol. Pluton perks up.
Jim: “But a vampire—follow after, won’t you?—is not really a someone. It’s a something.”
29.3. Jim walks outside towards the box, Sol and Pluton following.
Jim: “Are you familiar with the association of vampirism with cases of tubercular consumption in Connecticut?”
29.4. Jim has reached the box and is inspecting it, leaning over it.
Sol: “That there was some similarity, but that the word ‘vampire’ was not used?”
29.5. Jim circles the box.
Jim: “Well, the papers used it—here, how do we open this—though the locals did not.”
29.6. BORDER.
Sol: “Open it, sir?”
30.
30.1. Jim, gesturing at the box.
Jim: “This is the golem in here, is it not?”
30.2. Sol, hesitant. In the background, RANDOLPH CARTER appears in the doorway, startled. Reference HP Lovecraft, naturally.
Sol: “Yes, but—” 30.3. Carter rushes up, waving the letter from Hammer in his hand.
Randolph: “Mister Cullock! James! I can see what you mean to do and—this is folly of unfathomably cyclopean proportions!”
30.4. BORDER.
Randolph: “The letter from Matteus Hammer is entirely explicit in its brevity, this container is as an inscrutable Hebraic box of Pandora!”
30.5. Jim, gesturing bemusedly to Randolph.
Jim: “Ah, Mr. Szombathy. Allow me to introduce our Rare Books Expert, Mr. Randolph Carter.”
31.
31.1. Carter looks down at Sol.
[CAPTION: RANDOLPH CARTER Age: Younger than he looks, really.
Born: 8/20/1874
Hometown: Some Nameless New England Town
Expertise: Ancient Tomes, Forgotten Lore, Adjectives
Hangups: Xenophobia, Icthyophobia, Anglophilia]
31.2. Carter nods at Sol in greeting, ignoring Sol’s offered handshake.
Randolph: “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mister Szombathy.”
31.3. Carter whips his head around (speed lines!) back to Jim.
Randolph: “I really must protest, James!”
31.4. BORDER Randolph: “The golem acted without instruction, in a violent and destructive manner according to its inhuman whims!”
31.5. BORDER, again. The text is less contained within the bubble.
Randolph: “It is a lifeless husk animated by eldritch secrets, which has demonstrated a readiness to cause harm!”
31.6. BORDER, once more. The text is almost overtaking the space, no longer contained in a bubble.
Randolph: “It is every bit the arcane monstrosity that we are employed to eliminate, an idiot half-form!”
32. The thickest BORDER panel so far, over a three panel of one full width over two half-widths.
32.1. BORDER. A single, solid, centered speech bubble, trailing down.
Jim: “Enough.”
32.2. Jim, over the box, holding a pair of gardening shears to the ropes binding it.
32.3. The severed ropes falling, in view of Sol.
Jim: “Mr. Szombathy; I should like to employ you. But after hearing your story, I suspect that you are but one part of what the stores would call a ‘package deal’.”
32.4. Jim opening the box, viewed from as if within.
Jim: “Would you mind if I were to awaken it?”
33.
33.1. Sol, looking resolute, with Carter looking horrified behind.
33.2. Repeat of 33.1, but with Sol nodding, Carter faint with terror.
Sol: “Please do, Mr. Cullock.”
33.3. A full view from above of the golem in the box. It is squared and inanimate, eyes shut and form even more vague than in the flashback. Pluton bounds into panel.
33.4. BORDER, more gray than black, now.
Jim: “Please, call me Jim.”
34.
34.1. Jim reaches into his pocket and pulls out a strip of paper. Pluton appears in the corner.
Jim: “Matteus had sent this ahead, as well.”
34.2. He holds it up for Sol and Carter to see. An א is visible, but the rest is concealed by the curl of the paper.
Jim: “I take it this is the ‘sacred words under the tongue’ type of golem, rather than the ‘אמת’ variety?”
34.3. Sol, confused.
Sol: “Yes, s—Jim.”
34.4. Jim, looking contemplative and holding the strip absently.
Jim: “I wonder. Was the golem silent for fear of spitting out the paper?”
Sol: “Eh?” 34.5. BORDER. Still gray.
Jim: “I would keep mum, myself, if my continued animation depended upon something held under my tongue.”
34.6. Jim’s hand pressing a tiny hole into the clay. Pluton is looking over the edge of the box.
Jim: “Just like planting a seed, hm?”
35.
35.1. Jim’s hand swipes over the hole, sealing it by pushing clay back over.
Jim: “There, now—”
35.2. BORDER, but with the image of ‘eyes opening’, slightly, in white.
35.3. BORDER as 35.2, but wider. Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter coming into view.
35.4. BORDER as 35.3, wider. Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter in full view.
35.5. Same panel width as 35.2-4, but a full, unshaded panel of Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter.
36.
36.1. The golem sits up, form still vague, androgynous. Carter shocks, Jim smiles, Sol looks nervous, Pluton is deadpan and does not move from looking over the edge of the box.
Jim: “How is that?”
36.2. The golem looks at Jim. Everyone’s expressions are the same as 36.1.
Jim: “Can you try speaking, now?”
36.3. The golem, closeup, mouth open slightly.
36.4. Same as 36.3.
Golem: “C’n try… speaking.”
36.5. Now Sol is shocked, too.
36.6. Same as 36.5.
Sol: “He can talk?”
37.
37.1. The golem, frowning.
Golem: “...can.”
37.2. Sol and Carter, even more shocked.
Randolph: “M-mimicry?”
37.3. The golem gives a headshake.
Golem: “Nuh-uh.”
37.4. The golem’s gaze shifts in the direction of Sol.
Golem: “Why… c-call me….”
37.5. The golem, looking down.
Golem: “He?”
37.6. Sol looks as though he has realized; unlit lightbulb? Carter is fizzling smoke from his noggin.
38.
38.1. Repeat of 37.6. More smoke from Carter, lit lightbulb on Sol.
Sol: “You’re a girl!”
38.2. The golem nods.
38.3.
Sol: “I’m so sorry, I never realized—you looked like a boy, so?”
38.4. The golem, puzzled.
Golem: “...looked?”
38.5. The golem starts to push out of the box.
Sol: “Of course, I should know, appearances and all, but—”
39.
39.1. The golem starts to rise from the box, form changed towards a more definite shape.
39.2. Continuing from 39.1, more and more defined, more and more upright.
39.3. Fully upright, fully defined as feminine. Dotty as per concept art.
39.4. The golem, in full view, looking down at herself while Jim, Sol, Pluton, and Carter are gathered around.
Golem: “Be...tter?”
40. Four quarter-width panels, one full, two half-width.
40.1. Jim, smiling.
Jim: “Quite so.”
40.2. Sol, beaming.
Sol: “Amazing!”
40.3. Pluton, feline.
Pluton: “Miau.”
40.4. Carter, stunned.
Randolph: “Transmogrification!?”
40.5. The golem, smiling.
40.6. Jim, Sol, Pluton, Carter.
Jim: “And how should we call you, Miss…”
40.7. The golem, thinking.
Golem: “D…”
41.
41.1. The golem, DOROTHEEA “DOTTY” SZOMBATHY, smiling, her speech bubble forming the CAPTION:
[Dorotheea Szombathy But you c’n call me Dotty!
Age: I dunno, like eight’r nine months older’n Sol?
Birthdate: I guess February of 1903? It was Tu B’shvat, I think.
I love helpin’ Sol, and all kinds of toys and games! My clay came from Horezu, but I was born in Bran! That’s in Transylvania, you know? The one in Rumania, not Usonia]
41.2. A view from behind Dotty as she continues talking. Jim and Sol look dumbfounded, Carter is letting out smoke from both ears and his eyes have rolled all the way back in his head.
Dotty: “I was asleep on the boat to Usonia, but someday I wanna try riding it while I’m awake….”
Jim: “Oh, she certainly can talk.”
Sol: “יא”
42. END page of “Can You Tell Me The Way To Usher St?”
42.1. CAPTION:
[סוף.]
42.2. A bubble of Dotty.
Dotty: “Say, c’n I wear clothes now?”

I know reference managers are typically pitched at academics, but I can't recommend them enough if you are writing anything that requires citations. I personally use Zotero because it's open source and has really robust features since the update to Zotero 7. You import your references as you do your research, and citing your work is as easy as a drag and drop into the page you're working on. You can also use citation keys, which are essentially exactly what @prismatic-bell described above - the difference being that you surround it in curly brackets instead, e.g., {papers for dummies Smith}. This would either cite it for you immediately, fully formatted and ready to go, or it would bring up a dialogue box to help you select the correct citation.
My only caveat is that I don't know off the top of my head whether page numbers can be included in citation keys because of the conventions of my field, but I'm sure there's a trick to it.
Anyway, point is, citation managers are great and super useful outside of academia. They should be used more often IMHO.
in re plagiarism and citation and people not knowing how to do it
in the capstone class of my MASTER's degree, I had to do a group paper with fellow students who had all done 6+ years of collegiate study to get there
we shared drafts of our portions and they had no citations and i was like???? and they were like "it's a draft i'll put the citations in at the end" and i was like ???????
because by the time you're done writing the thing you're not going to remember what you got where and whether you synthesized information together! this is how "i thought i thought of it" plagiarism cases occur!!!!
anyway i told them at the bare minimum any time they referenced a numerical figure they needed to cite it, and since it was a paper on accounting fraud that mostly worked out. but i could tell they were citing stuff simply because i'd told them to cite where numbers came from, because they didn't bother to cite some non-numerical things that definitely needed it.
anyway this is why when you have classes that have multiple assignments for a paper to teach you how to write it, annotated bibliography comes before drafting. because you're supposed to have your sources and know what's in them when you start writing.
to current college students: PLEASE put the citations in as you're writing not as you're editing. i know it seems like a pita especially if you don't know the formatting well, but that's what tools like Purdue Owl are for. Tell it what citation format you're supposed to use, what kind of source you have, fill in the fields and it will format the citation for you.

What Is Document And Contract Redlining?
Tumblr media
In the document management and collaboration process, redlining refers to marking text that has been edited. Typically, redlining is used when two or more people are working on a document together; each individual can redline the text that was added or edited. The red lined text will then appear in a special color (or as bold) so that others can see the changes that have been made.
The traditional redlining process typically takes two files as input, compares them to find the largest and nearest blocks of common text, and showing the rest as either added or deleted. The process works best for documents that are similar, for instance, versions of the same contract or offer. The output is a third file, with the added and deleted text highlighted per user’s request in a format. Typically, the added text might be shown bold, double-underline, surrounded by square brackets; deleted text might be shown strike-through, surrounded by curly brackets.
When is Document and Contract Redlining Required?
Document redlining is necessary when you are reviewing or negotiating with someone on a document, or when you are editing a document with markup for the counter party to allow them to see where you have made changes. Other times, you can use it when reviewing and editing the writings of your colleagues to whom you have delegated tasks such as drafting reports, meeting minutes, project plans and other documents for review. By using the redlining and track changes, you can easily see the changes and save time by not having to review the entire document again.
The Challenges With Traditional Ways Of Doing Document Change Tracking:
Difficult To Read: As the number of changes in the document grows, it becomes difficult to read the document and makes it harder to find spelling errors or spacing problems.
Leftover Document Metadata: Track changes and document comparison often leave behind a trail of metadata that could contain sensitive information. Hence all metadata must be removed before sending the document across. This requires additional steps and slows down the process.
Forgetting To Turn On Track Changes: People who are unfamiliar with the track changes function often forget to turn it on and hence any subsequent changes will not be tracked. This makes it harder for the next stage of review, forcing you to read the entire document to see what has changed.
Loss of Formatting: Accepting changes can cause loss of many types of formatting and may require significant effort to remediate these. Renumbering the document after track changes are accepted can be quite a difficult task. Many times, conversion from Word to any other systems break any special formatting (footnotes, special numbering schemes, etc.)
Desktop Only: Redline does not always appear on all devices. As a result, you need to wait until you are in front of your computer to see the documents and track changes.
Best Practices for Document Redlining
For transactional document redlining (read proposals, contracts, agreements), it is important to attempt to build a dialog with your counter party early on in the process. Try to understand the human element of the document negotiation process and determine what personality type you are dealing with.
You have to understand that in the end, it is your job and accountability to ensure that you don’t sign (or make your executives sign) on the dotted line unless you are completely sure that the document contains exactly the language you intended to sign on.
Set your priorities correctly. Most often we find that the following order of priorities will serve you the best:
Compliance first: Use the set of processes and tools that help you ensure that documents meet compliance criteria. Automated tracking of clauses and deviation from standards is a necessity.
Confidence: You must be confident about the full visibility and tractability of all of the changes that have been made to the document. There should be no unexplained variances.
Courtesy: Be courteous to your counter party by offering them the ability to see a red lined copy, clean copy and editable copy, so that they don’t have to repeat the arduous process of redlining and document comparison.
If you must use MS Word and email or any other software that does not allow multi-party automatic redlining, consider using the following best practices:
Turn on track changes but edit the document without showing markups. This way you can catch spelling or spacing issues and read the document much easier.
If you are sending a document via email, you want to ensure the recipient doesn’t turn off track changes.
Ensure that you or someone on your team scrubs and cleans the document metadata before sending it across to the counterparty.
Don’t forget to send the counterparty both a redline and a clean editable version of the revised document.

My method for counting them does take order into account, but it goes across all possible text and images before my own addition.
For this reason, a frowny face- in this configuration ":c"- followed by another person's response of a smiley face in the same configuration would count as one set of parentheses, however, reversing that order counts both of them separately.
The order does not take account of invalid parentheses strings as mentioned above, though.
This post has 2 sets of parentheses, 16 extra opening parentheses, 16 extra closing parentheses, 1 set of brackets, 8 extra opening brackets, 8 extra closing brackets, 7 opening curly brackets, and 7 closing curly brackets.
someone put some parentheses or something in this post QUICK

Tutorial: How to add pages with buttons to your blog
I recently added some new pages to my main blog to help people find my stuff and had a request showing how to do it. Being the nice guy that I am, I will now explain how as rudimentary as possible.
Step 1: Open your blog’s theme page. This can be done by clicking the Profile button [1], then clicking on Edit appearance [2], and then Edit theme [3].
Tumblr media
Step 2. After the theme page loads scroll down and click on + Add a page [1]. A new post-like editor will open. From here add a page url, you need to replace the grey text in the box [2], give your page a title [3], and then add content to the page as if you were writing a regular Tumblr post [4]. Once you are satisfied with the post click on Save [5]. Once the save button disappears then your new blog page is live. You can double check the way it looks by going to the full url that was typed in the url box [2].
Tumblr media
Step 3: Close the editor by clicking on back [1], scroll back to the top of the page and then click on Edit HTML [2] (dont worry if yours doesnt say custom theme or whatever).
Tumblr media
Step 4: The next step might look scary, but it really isnt. We are going to add the button to the blog’s main page. First and foremost: make a copy of your current blog’s code so if you make a mistake or it doesnt look right then you can undo everything. To do this right click in the main text window [1], click on Select All [2] then right click again and click on Copy [3]. Now open any text editor on your computer like notepad or word and paste the text in there and save it to your pc. If anything ever goes wrong just copy the text in this saved file, open this window, select all again, and paste over everything in this box and click on save.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Depending on your blog’s theme we will now add a button roughly where all the other buttons to your blog is, notably your ask and submit buttons. First open the search options by pressing Cntrl + F, then type href=“/ask into the Search for box [1]
Tumblr media
Step 6: You now need to highlight all the code around the href=“/ask” bit starting with <li class= and ending with </li>, then copy this code [1]. (in my screenshot below this is lines 256 to 258). Note: do not copy the {block:AskEnabled} and {/block:...} bits; you wont need this. Next you need to paste this code where your button to appear; for example I chose for my button to show up after my submit button. So I found the {/block:...} part where the Submissions end (after the curly boi }), added a new a line and pasted the code there [2]. From here click on Update Preview [3]  and you should now see your blog has two ask buttons in the preview.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 7: We now want to edit our button to look and work correctly. First change “nav-item nav-item--ask“ to “nav-item nav-item--page” [1]. Now change “/ask” to whatever url you chose for your page back in step 2 (part 2), in my case this is now “/favourite” [2], you need the backslash ( / ). Next change "label {block:AskPage}current-page{/block:AskPage}" to “label external-page” [3]. Finally change {AskLabel} to whatever you want your button to say, in my case I chose My Fav Person [4], note: you need to get rid of the curly brackets here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 8: Click  on Update Preview and then Save (the save button only shows up after you update preview). You’re done! Go to your main blog url and try it out!
Tumblr media
Bonus Step!: If you want to link to stuff outside your tumblr blog (like youtube or patreon or whatever) you can do this by adding in the full link in the href= part without the starting backslash. Example:

Tumblr, whatever this new color scheme you’ve got going on is ANNOYING.
What is one thing you've realized or discovered lately? I was driving this morning and was listening to a radio program when I heard the DJs talk about how Disney employees have some sort of hierarchy among them. Apparently the princesses are the It Girls, and they have their own rooms and stuff, basically the top of the pack. Next is anyone who dresses up as a human character, say Gaston; then it’s followed by people who have to stay in the mascot outfits. It’s pretty cool information but also kinda sad? Do you know anyone who is colorblind? If so, who? I don’t think so. I do know someone who’s legally blind but I know that doesn’t count :(( Is there anyone you suspect of being colorblind? If so, who? No. When was the last time you cried, and why (if you want to share)? I haven’t cried in a while–which is surprising and also a good thing–so I don’t really remember, but I think it was from a fight with Gab. Who was the last person who was rude to you? I was at a presscon last week and while no one was particularly rude to me, people from media have absolutely nooooooo manners. It’s mortifying. It was a presscon for a ONE (an MMA promotion) pay-per-view held in a really fancy, 5-star hotel in Manila and there was a buffet for those who were invited to the event–me and my classmates included. These media people were absolute barbarians IN A 5-STAR HOTEL and kept cutting in front of the lines even when the staff kept telling them to line up. I saw one of the staff roll her eyes and I smiled sheepishly both in agreement and like an empathetic kind of way.
Do you wish you were in a different social class than you are? No, I’m fine where I am. What's something that scares you? Being alone with my thoughts. What's the one thing you want more than anything?  I want to go to Thailand and India and have their authentic cuisines. Do you have a relationship with God? Never. Have you ever vlogged or blogged? I’ve blogged before but it was boring for me. Microblogging is much more hectic and is more my style. Who do you call when you have a problem? Gabie. But I go to Angela if I have a problem involving Gab hahaha. Do you have a best friend? Of course. If not, who do you wish you were friends with? Is there someone that you miss? Yes, I miss both of my best friends. I never get to see Anj anymore and I’m in a perpetual state of missing my girlfriend. What was the last date you went on like, and are you still with the person? I had early dinner with Gab at Chocolate Kiss. I had spare ribs and she had pesto penne. That was just this Tuesday, so yep I am definitely still with her. What is your favorite thrift store find? I don’t go to thrift stores. Do you keep your room organized? I try to, but I think I’m more messy-organized than anything. Like I’d be really messy with all my stuff, but I memorize where everything is. I know there’s a copy of Hamlet stashed at the back of my closet, and I know I have a chunk of childhood books in my bedside chest, and if I need a mug on short notice I know there’s one in the middle rack of my bedside drawer, ya feel? Which YouTubers do you feel like you could be friends with in real life?  Shane Dawson, without a shadow of a damn doubt. Have you ever met someone in person that you first met online? Yes! I’ve met 3 out of 4 of my og Filipino wrestling friends from the internet. I’ve met Javi, who turned out to be a real ass and I never talked to him again after that; I met Jila, and we both screamed when we realized we came across each other; and I met Raf, who got me tickets to my first and so far only wrestling event and he was a real sweetheart. I met Jila while in line for the WWE show, so I only got to interact with her for like 15 seconds, but it was a blast.  The only person I’ve never met is Gabbie, which is ironic because we STUDY IN THE SAME SCHOOL. But we’ve never been classmates, never been in the same building, never passed by each other. How good are you with shades of colors? Uh I guess I can identify a number of them. Does it annoy you when people call teal "blue?” It probably would annoy me. Would you describe teal as a shade of blue, a shade of green, or a mix? It’s just a fancy way of saying blue-green to me. What is your favorite color? Pink. How many other people do you know with your favorite color? Very few. A lot of people are still ‘ew’ when it comes to pink, I’ve realized. Do you fall asleep with your laptop open on your lap? Hahahaha it happens sometimes, but I always try to avoid it because my laptop is freaking expensive and my dad probably won’t get me a new one if I break it. Which do you use more: a computer or a phone? Phone. Have you ever taken a test to see if you are colorblind? No. Which family member did you inherit your hair color from? Filipinos are pretty homogenous. We have black hair. Do you hate your nose, love your nose, or have you never thought about it?  I never really thought about it. What was your favorite Barbie doll?  I didn’t have a favorite, I just got gifted Barbies as a kid and played with them for a bit, but I always preferred my cousins’ toy soldiers. Would you ever want to look like your favorite Barbie doll? Do you like your hair better curly, wavy, or straight? Wavy. Do you ever worry about running out of make-up and not being able to buy more? Hahahaha that’s like everyone else I know, but no. I don’t care for makeup. Do grammatical errors annoy you?  Only when the situation strictly calls for grammar to be proper. Who do you know who is dyslexic? I don’t think so. Do you prefer kisses or hugs? Kisses from my girlfriend, hugs from everyone else. Describe your dream wedding in five words.  Elegant, formal, ORGANIZED, white, huge. Do you smoke weed? Nope. Is weed legal in your state? No but I think they’ve been having hearings in the Senate about legalizing it for medical purposes. We’re the Philippines though so I highly doubt it would go places. What are your secrets? Share a few if you want to. I don’t have any, I dump my entire life on this Tumblr hah. Have you ever thrown up in class?  Oh my, no. I’ve done other things though D: What is it that you want to talk to someone about?  I’m good. What is something that you used to be ashamed of, but now you're not? I used to not want to be associated with Tondo (I grew up there) but now I want nothing more than to live there all over again. Do you have anyone who cares about you? Yes, luckily. What was the last good book you read about?  Chris Jericho’s books are always a good read. Where do you next want to go on an adventure? Thailand or Cambodiaaaa. Do you need a vacation? Kind of. I haven’t been to the beach in almost a year. I haven’t gone trekking or went tourist destination hopping for much longer. How long has it been since you've been on vacation?  Four months-ish. We only go on vacation when my dad is home. If you could go on vacation right now, where would you go?  We’re going to Pangasinan in two weeks for a short vacation, and I can’t wait for that. Have you ever walked outside in below zero weather? Nope. Is watching youtube videos one of your hobbies? Yes. I was literally just watching videos before this survey. Does it annoy you that people get denied for disability who really need it? I haven’t seen this happen but I’d imagine I’d be upset. Have you ever held a newborn baby?  Not newborn, but the baby was weeks old. Are a ton of your facebook friends getting married and having kids now? SURPRISINGLY!!! I’ve had two batchmates from high school–one is engaged and the other already has a kid. Teenage pregnancy/marriage is not so much a thing in the PH’s middle class bracket so both instances were definitely a small shock when we all found out.
What is a trend you haven't followed? Getting bangs. What's something you believe in that most people don't?  Non-belief. At least in the Philippines, a population that’s 90% Christians. Do you think for yourself? Yes but I tend to get afraid as well. Sometimes I’d ask other people to decide for me too. What's the last supernatural thing that happened to you? Nothing of that sort has happened to me. Have you ever had anyone bully you because they were jealous of you?  No, I don’t think so. What's something most people don't know about you? I have a faint scar on my left eyebrow because a distant cousin tried to get me blind by throwing a glass bottle to my face. What's a hidden talent that you have? I wouldn’t hide any of my talents... If you're a Christian, how long have you known the Lord? Who is someone you'd really like to talk to? Angela, because I miss her. Is there anyone who's dear in your heart who's going down the wrong path? No, I think everyone I know’s headed the right way. Who has your heart?  My dog. From your experience, which is worse for bullying: adulthood or childhood? It’s awful either way lol. Do you wear sweaters often? No, I don’t really have to. How often do you burn candles? ...Never? Do you live in an apartment, condo, dorm, or house? My parents’ house. Do you have a sibling with the same first initial as you? No. It’s they that share the first letter (J) in their names. What's a word that rhymes with your first name? Noggin. ...Middle name? Shell. Do you get enough sleep?  I always try to because the moment I get less than 7 hours of sleep, you can guarantee that I’ll be a monster for the rest of the day. How many cups of tea do you drink in a day? I’ve never had tea. Don't you hate it when people give advice when you want support? I wouldn’t hate it especially if their genuine intention was to help. I’d still appreciate the advice. Which magazine is your favorite to read?  I don’t read magazines–even online ones–anymore. Do you cut out magazine clippings to use for projects? If I have to. Do you ever eat kids' food (as in, meals made for kids)?  I’d still get corndogs. I’d say I also get mac and cheese but I usually order gourmet mac and cheese so that won’t count haha. What's something you wish you would have known sooner? That I didn’t have to fake who I was to my blockmates who were way too different to who I was and what I wanted to be. I did it for a whole schoolyear and was miserable because I knew that wasn’t where I wanted to be. What's something you wish your doctor would have told you? No? Are you happy with your life right now? Not completely, but aren’t we all? Is it cold where you live?  It’s more chilly because it’s February, but watch this quickly go away by March hah. What's the next big project you plan to start? Making a physical photo album for me and Gab, because we’ve been together for three years and we’re shit at documenting memories. Do you enjoy taking on new challenges? Depends on the challenge. Do you have acid reflux? Nope. What's on your heart? Blood. Are you naturally optimistic or pessimistic? Optimistic. Would you rather wear pink or blue? I don’t have a lot of either in my wardrobe so tbh I don’t know what I look better in. I’m guessing blue. What are the names of your first cousins? Jereth, Elijah, Cholo, and Toffe on my mom’s side. Bianca, Lei, AJ, Kesler, Kent, Sam, and Liam on my dad’s. Do you know what you want to name your children? I have ideas. Do you like what your parents named you? I hated it as a kid but I’ve grown to appreciate it now. Do you think you were cute in your baby pictures?  Sure. What color was your baby blanket? I don’t remember anymore. Do you remember pre-school? I have memories here and there. How old were you when you made your first friend?  I guess pre-school, so I was 4. Are you doing what you were created to do? Still figuring that out. Do you find a lot of peoples' facebook statuses to not be relevant at all?  No. I don’t shit on whatever people post buuuut I don’t care about them either.

Review TdV Vienna – 07.06.-10.06.18
Tumblr media
If you are wondering why I have been pretty absent from Tumblr last week – it’s because I was on my long awaited Vienna trip/Tanz der Vampire week. I originally had planned to see the show twice, on Thursday and Sunday. But somehow I got incredibly lucky and managed to get last-minute tickets with student discount for all the other shows during my stay, meaning I saw it 5 times (!!!) in 4 days.
And as promised I will review the show(s) for you, but since I had so little time in between, I couldn’t write up one for each performance right away. Also considering I already posted a general review of the Vienna show HERE, I will just review the roles/actors I haven’t mentioned/seen before, as well as sharing highlights from the individual shows that were particularly memorable.
I also have quite a few pictures, therefor I will put all this under a read more so you don’t have to scroll endlessly. Enjoy!
Cast lists:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drew Sarich – Graf von Krolock I know, I have written about Drew already. I promise to keep it short. But I couldn’t write this review without mentioning how abolutely incredible Drew was once again. His Krolock is the most layered character out there in my opinion, he manages to make you feel all kinds of emotions with his portrayal. He managed to make me tear up during ‘Unstillbare Gier’ in every. single. performance. 5 times in a row! And the first and last time I was even full on sobbing and had difficulty breathing for a few minutes after the song was over - it was insane. I pray to god he will return to this role some time in the future, I can’t imagine this being the end of Drewlock.
Abla Alaoui – Sarah Chagal Abla was an incredibly sweet Sarah. I really loved her voice, might actually prefer it to Dianas even. Acting wise they are both amazing, and while they make different choices, I couldn’t say one was better than the other. I really liked the way Abla played the transformation in the end – it started out with small jerking movements and grew more prominent up to the revealing of the fangs. It was a very nice touch and made that whole scene that much more interesting. I also really enjoyed her chemistry with both Daniel Eckert and Drew Sarich (more during the highlights 😉).
Daniel Eckert – Alfred Daniel was an incredible Alfred. He was really sweet and he has a great voice, he and Raphael Groß are definitely my favourite Alfreds. Because even if I still want the Graf to succeed, they both managed to make me care about Alfred a little more and made me actually like ‘Für Sarah’ :D He was also very funny next to the Professor, which not every Alfred manages to do.
Christopher Dederichs – Alfred Christopher is also a good Alfred, and I did enjoy his performance a lot; but his voice wasn’t quite on the same level as the other two in my opinion. He still delivered on most songs, but ‘Für Sarah’ wasn’t quite as captivating. This is also due to personal preference, but I never imagine Alfred with blond and curly hair, so that took some getting used to. But all in all a great performance that I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing again 😊
Dawn Bullock – Rebecca Chagal I love Dawn as Rebecca. She is hilarious and has great comedic timing, and her voice is perfectly balanced between rough and melodic. Maciej Salamon – Yoine Chagal He was also a great Chagal, especially the comedic moments were great with him, but I think Nicolas Tenerani is definitely the better singer and showed more diversity in his singing technique – Maciej always ‘growled’ his lines which made Chagal not as complex a character as he was during Nicolas’ performance. Marle Martens – Magda Marle is an incredibly strong singer, and I was blown away by the effortlessness with which she sang. I found a new appreciation of ‘Tot Zu Sein Ist Komisch’ thanks to her.
Highlights: There are quite a few things I discovered in these shows, some of them are planned/regular moments, some just happened in one show (I will name the specific show in brackets).
·       In one show, Chagal (Nicolas Tenerani that day) tries to nail the piece of wood to the door, but it wouldn’t stay on – so he just took it down and carried it back out again XD (June 8th)
·       During ‘Nie Gesehen’, Rebecca searches for Chagal in her sleep, and when she wakes up, she checks under the sheets first before searching the room for him XD
·       After singing ‘Gott Ist Tot’, Drew turns to look back at the moon and bares his fangs
·       I never noticed that Alfred and Magda are flirting quite a bit during ‘Wahrheit’ – Magda is dropping some vegetable to have him picking it up as an excuse to start a conversation, and Alfred is totally into it!
·       When Abronsius is ‘whispering’ to Alfred during Wahrheit, Rebecca wants to know what he’s saying reeeally badly and even tries to ask Magda and Chagal if they understand, only to be VERY annoyed when they don’t.
·       One time, Rebecca (Tanja Petrasek) wasn’t on stage on time after ‘Rote Stiefel’ – she wasn’t there when Chagal said ‘…er hat sie geholt, hat sie uns entführt’! She came on stage right after though and just started with her line, I don’t think people noticed. (June 9th, evening show)
·       When the professor and Alfred try to interrogate the villagers after Chagals death, the village idiot sits there picking his nose, and that’s why he doesn’t notice everyone else leaving XD
·       After biting Magda, Chagal is howling like a wolf and then he has the hiccups; hilarious!!!
·       Raphael had a hilarious way of singing ‘…das Schloss von diesem GRAFEN!’ (June 7th/9th)
·       When the vampires are amongst the audience in Finale I. Akt, there were quite a few screams from surprised/terrified audience members XD
·       When Drewlock seduces Alfred, he smells at the sponge, and for some reason his voice sounds really weird singing the next few words (‘…ich weiß, was du fühlst und denkst…’); it almost sounds as if he were high! (from Sarah’s scent?)
·       Drewlock reacting to Herbert and Alfred meeting – glorious! During the lines “dies ist mein Sohn Herbert…” he is grinning as if to say ‘oh you poor boy, you have no idea what’s coming for you’ and when Herbert sings “Endlich jemand, der mir die Langeweile nimmt!”, he is putting a hand over his heart as if to say ‘awww, my precious boy has found a toy’ XD
·       During the ‘intro’ at the beginning of act 2, there is a lonely bat flying towards the castle, vanishing through a window – that looks exactly like the one Graf stands in front of at the beginning of ToFi!
·       While he is walking down the stairs during ToFi, Drewlock is stroking his bottom lip with his thumb while he is observing Sarah!
·       Drewlock touching Sarah’s hair and then smelling his own hand during Totale Finsternis – that was another great detail that made his vampiric nature tangible
·       In one show, Filippo forgot the lines during the beginning of ‘Carpe Noctem’ – I had to giggle a bit, but I don’t think it was very noticeable for people that don’t know the song by heart :P (June 8th)
·       I noticed that the cover black vampire, Jordan Hinchliffe, was wearing an open black vest, while Arltan Andzhaev (main cast) is always shirtless. (June 8th/9th)
·       In one show, the white vampire (Jasper Caransa) almost kissed Sarah (June 9th, evening show)
·       After the nightmare bite, Arltan ‘shares’ some of Sarah’s blood with Herbert
·       The Professor sniffed at both oatmeal bowls and gives the one that smells awful to Alfred (I am guessing that’s the one Koukol spat into 😉)
·       In the crypt, Abronsius mimics breasts when he says ‘denk an Chagal’s Tochter’
·       Chagal kissed Magdas foot when she stopped him from joining her in the coffin during ‘Geil zu sein ist komisch’ (June 9th, evening show)
·       Herbert (Charles Kreische) had a small mishap once, his sleeve caught in his neckline. But Charles was great, stayed in character and ripped it free with a dramatic eyeroll :D
·       When Krolock comes down from the pulpit in Tanzsaal, one of the vampires falls to her knees and kisses his hand
·       Before the Sarahlock bite, Drewlock looks to Herbert as if to get reassurance. Only when Herbert slightly bows in response, he holds his hand out for her.
·       Drewlock gave ‘Sarabla’ a kiss on the cheek before biting her (you read correctly – A KISS!!) It was Ablas last show as Sarah playing with Drew, and it was a sweet little gesture that had her giggling for a moment <3 (June 8th)
·       When Sarah falls after the Graf lets go of her, all the vampires move towards her and only stop when Krolock hisses at them, as if to say ‘don’t you dare touch her, she’s mine!’
·       Herbert flirting with another (male) vampire during the Ballsaalszene, dancing almost the entire thing with him, winking and waving at him
·       When Graf and Sarah were towards the back of the stage, Drewlock had another taste of her by running his finger through the blood on her neck and sucking it off his finger… (not sure if this was a one time thing – noticed it on June 9th, matinee show)
·       Krolock also flirting with (female) vampires during that whole scene – one moment that stands out is when there are only a few of the vampires left (shortly before they discover the human’s reflections). He changes partners, and when met with one specific female vampire he kisses his index finger and wiggles it at her (flexing and extending, not moving it side to side like some diva) – she basically turns into a teenie with a crush (as do I), giggling and legs turning to jelly. I asked Drew about it, and she is indeed supposed to be one of the many conquests the Graf had before Sarah.
·       Towards the end of Tanzsaal, Drewlock starts picking his teeth, he apparently still has Sarah stuck in his fangs. When the humans ‘dance into’ Krolock, he demonstratively flicks a piece off his fingers XD
Pictures:
Last, but definitely not least, I have a bunch of photos from the stage door and all the treasures I collected etc.

On the day of my last show I brought my own fangs and I had SO much fun posing for pictures with them – every single person I met at the stage door was super sweet and kind enough to play along 😊

This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and I will treasure these memories forever <3

JSON
JSON
JSON is an acronym for JavaScript Object Notation, is an open standard format, which is lightweight and text-based, designed explicitly for human-readable data interchange. It is a language-independent data format. It supports almost every kind of language, framework, and library.
In the early 2000s, JSON was initially specified by Douglas Crockford. In 2013, JSON was standardized as ECMA-404, and RCF 8259 was published in 2017.
JSON is an open standard for exchanging data on the web. It supports data structures like objects and arrays. So, it is easy to write and read data from JSON.
In JSON, data is represented in key-value pairs, and curly braces hold objects, where a colon is followed after each name. The comma is used to separate key-value pairs. Square brackets are used to hold arrays, where each value is comma-separated.
What is JSON
JSON     stands for JavaScript Object Notation.
JSON     is an open standard data-interchange format.
JSON     is lightweight and self-describing.
JSON     originated from JavaScript.
JSON     is easy to read and write.
JSON     is language independent.
JSON     supports data structures such as arrays and objects.
Features of JSON
Simplicity
Openness
Self-Describing
Internationalization
Extensibility
Interoperability
Why do we use JSON?
Since JSON is an easy-to-use, lightweight language data interchange format in comparison to other available options, it can be used for API integration. Following are the advantages of JSON:
Less Verbose:     In contrast to XML, JSON follows a compact style to improve its users'     readability. While working with a complex system, JSON tends to make     substantial enhancements.
Faster:     The JSON parsing process is faster than that of the XML because the DOM     manipulation library in XML requires extra memory for handling large XML     files. However, JSON requires less data that ultimately results in     reducing the cost and increasing the parsing speed.
Readable:     The JSON structure is easily readable and straightforward. Regardless of     the programming language that you are using, you can easily map the domain     objects.
Structured Data:     In JSON, a map data structure is used, whereas XML follows a tree structure.     The key-value pairs limit the task but facilitate the predictive and     easily understandable model.
JSON Data Types
Following are the most commonly used JSON data types.
·          String
·          Number
·          Boolean
·          Null
JSON Objects
In JSON, objects refer to dictionaries, which are enclosed in curly brackets, i.e., { }. These objects are written in key/value pairs, where the key has to be a string and values have to be a valid JSON data type such as string, number, object, Boolean or null. Here the key and values are separated by a colon, and a comma separates each key/value pair.
1.        {"name" : "Jack", "employeeid" : 001, "present" : false}
JSON Arrays
In JSON, arrays can be understood as a list of objects, which are mainly enclosed in square brackets [ ]. An array value can be a string, number, object, array, boolean or null.
For example:
1.         [{
2.        "PizzaName" : "Country Feast",
3.        "Base" : "Cheese burst",
4.        "Toppings" : ["Jalepenos", "Black Olives", "Extra cheese", "Sausages", "Cherry tomatoes"],
5.        "Spicy" : "yes",
6.        "Veg" : "yes"
7.        },
8.
9.        {
10.     "PizzaName" : "Veggie Paradise",
11.     "Base" : "Thin crust",
12.     "Toppings" : ["Jalepenos", "Black Olives", "Grilled Mushrooms", "Onions", "Cherry tomatoes"],
13.     "Spicy" : "yes",
14.     "Veg" : "yes"
15.     }
16.     ]
In the above example, the object "Pizza" is an array. It contains five objects, i.e., PizzaName, Base, Toppings, Spicy, and Veg.

JSON vs XML
Before knowing about the differences between JSON and XML, we should be aware of the definition of json and xml.
What is json?
JSON stands for JavaScript object notation. JSON has been derived from javascript, where javascript is a programming language. It was originally created to hold the structured data that could be used in javascript. JSON became so popular that it is used for data for all kinds of applications. It is the most popular way of sending the data for Web APIs.

Basic data types supported by json are:
Strings:     Characters that are enclosed in single or double quotation marks.
Number:     A number could be integer or decimal, positive or negative.
Booleans:     The Boolean value could be either true or false without any quotation     marks.
Null: Here,     null means nothing without any quotation marks.
In addition to basic data types, json has arrays and objects.
A Sports and FIFA Sever Video
Arrays
Arrays are the lists that are represented by the square brackets, and the values have commas in between them. They can contain mix data types, i.e., a single array can have strings, Boolean, numbers.
For example:
Example 1: [1, 2, 7.8, 5, 9, 10];
Example 2: ["red", "yellow", "green"];
Example 3: [8, "hello", null, true];
In the above, example 1 is an array of numbers, example 2 is an array of strings, and example 3 is an array of mix data types.
Objects
Objects are JSON dictionaries that are enclosed in curly brackets. In objects, keys and values are separated by a colon ':', pairs are separated by comma. Keys and values can be of any type, but the most common type for the keys is a string.
For example: {"red" : 1, "yellow" : 2, "green" : 3};
Nesting
Nesting involves keeping the arrays and objects inside of each other. We can put the arrays inside objects, objects inside arrays, arrays inside arrays, etc. We can say that json file is a big object with lots of objects and arrays inside.
Example:
1.        {
2.          "song" :
3.                    {
4.                         "title" :  "Hey Dude";
5.                          "artist": "The Beatles";
6.                           "musicians": ["John Lennon", "Paul McCratney", "Ringo Starr"];
7.                     }
8.        }
In the above code, the song starts with a curly bracket. Therefore, a song is an object. It contains three key-value pairs wherein title, artist and musicians are the keys.'
What is XML?
XML stands for an extensible markup language. It is like HTML, where HTML stands for Hypertext Markup language. HTML is used for creating websites, whereas XML can be used for any kind of structured data.
XML has two ways of handling data, i.e., Tags and Attributes. The tags work as HTML. The start tags start with the <_> and end with the </_>. The start and end tags must match. The names must only be letters, numbers, and underscore, and the tag name must start with a letter only.

For example:
<title> Hello World </title>
Nested Tags
When we put the tag inside of another tag that creates the nested data.
For example:
1.        <color>
2.         <red> 1 </red>
3.        <yellow> 2 </yellow>
4.        <green> 3 </green>
5.        </color>
As we can observe in the above code that inside the color tag, we have three more tags, i.e., red, yellow, and green.
Similarities between the json and XML.
Self-describing: Both     json and xml are self-describing as both xml data and json data are     human-readable text.
Hierarchical: Both     json and xml support hierarchical structure. Here hierarchical means that     the values within values.
Data interchange format: JSON and XML can be used as data interchange     formats by many different programming languages.
Parse: Both     the formats can be easily parsed.
Retrieve: Both     formats can be retrieved by using HTTP requests. The methods used for     retrieving the data are GET, PUT, POST.

JSON

 1.        {"name" : "Jack", "employeeid" : 001, "present" : false}
JSON Arrays
In JSON, arrays can be understood as a list of objects, which are mainly enclosed in square brackets [ ]. An array value can be a string, number, object, array, boolean or null.
For example:
 1.         [{
2.        "PizzaName" : "Country Feast",
3.        "Base" : "Cheese burst",
4.        "Toppings" : ["Jalepenos", "Black Olives", "Extra cheese", "Sausages", "Cherry tomatoes"],
5.        "Spicy" : "yes",
6.        "Veg" : "yes"
7.        },
8.
9.        {
10.     "PizzaName" : "Veggie Paradise",
11.     "Base" : "Thin crust",
12.     "Toppings" : ["Jalepenos", "Black Olives", "Grilled Mushrooms", "Onions", "Cherry tomatoes"],
13.     "Spicy" : "yes",
14.     "Veg" : "yes"
15.     }
16.     ]
In the above example, the object "Pizza" is an array. It contains five objects, i.e., PizzaName, Base, Toppings, Spicy, and Veg.

1.1.11 HALLOWEEN NIGHT
Haddonfield, Illinois
Cammie's eyelids were just beginning to fall when she heard the sound of a car door outside. She looked to the television, there was a commercial on the screen, a trailer for a new show that was supposed to be debuting tonight.
“Due to the delays in this World Series Game Seven, the premier of Season of the Witch will debut next Friday night at 8/7 Central!” The announcer's deep voice boomed.
Cammie slid out of her seat, causing the office chair upon which she sat to give a rusty squeak upon being delivered from her tiny albeit husky frame. Cammie threw  a fearful glance to the old man in the room beside her. He stared blankly at the screen with his piercing blue eyes, mouth ajar, the little oxygen tank behind his chair making puff puff sounds. Cammie heard approaching the approaching steps of what sounded like boots on the driveway pavers. She sidled on over to the window across the room and pulled back a white sheer curtain. She spread two thick slats of blinds and peered out.
The window faced out unto Matthew Street and she had a decent view of the driveway and the church across the street. A black police cruiser sat parked at the end of the driveway, headlights on, engine purring. Two officers were approaching. One of them was a short and chunky Caucasian woman. Curly black hair stuck out from her tan shiny billed hat. The other was a fat man with the complexion of cream cheese. He wore a hideous fumanchu on his face, his bulbous midsection looking ready to pop a few buttons on his khaki uniform. The man cop whistled as he got a look at the house and opened his mouth to say something but just then the female cop's radio crackled.
“One-Nine-Seven-Four seeking One-Nine-Two-Five do you copy?”
The woman cop pushed a button on the receiver mounted to her shoulder and said, “I hear you One-Nine-Seven-Four, go ahead Andy. Over.”
The two officers locked eyes, only for a moment before the radio crackled again.
“Yeah, uh, I was just wondering if you guys were seeing anything over there? Over.”
The two cops both sighed, as if in relief.
“Negative.” The woman replied, “Quiet as a mouse over here. We're still going door to door. Over.”
The male cop pulled a stick of gum out of his pocket, offered a piece to the woman, who refused, and then put a piece into his mouth.
“Yeah, we're en route to a 911 call over here off Orange and 9th, checking out a possible B&E, 66 says caller sounded young and was frantic. Over.”
“At least somebody's getting some action.” The male cop grumbled.
“Well you guys be careful and keep us posted. Over.”
“Will do. Over and out.”
Cammie watched as they approached the front door. She had to crane her neck to see, but she had a pretty good unobstructed view of the front stoop.
Chelsea Keane poured over her social media feed, which was dominated mostly by pictures of her friend's endeavors Trick-Or-Treating with their children. She scrolled past a nice parade of Disney Princesses, comic book super heroes, and the occasional vampire and Frankenstein. The movie had ended around twenty minutes or so ago and they had moved downstairs from the home theater to the living room. A fire burned cozily in the gas fireplace, warming Chelsea's feet as she propped them up on the edge of the loveseat, her head propped with a pillow on the opposite side, her body sprawled across the whole piece of furniture.
Josh sat on the edge of the larger couch watching the baseball game on the big screen TV as Penny dozed against the side of the sofa, her feet propped up in his lap which he rubbed half-hazardously, most of his focus on the game, which was just now returning from a commercial break. He was leaning forward to the glass coffee table in front of him, reaching for an aluminum can of Coke when the doorbell rang.
Chelsea let her phone fall face down on her chest. “What the hell?” She breathed.
Josh put the can to his lips, “Probably more Trick-Or-Treaters.”
Chelsea gripped her phone and swung her legs out to stand up. The bones in her back popped like a geriatric as she gained her feet. “It's too late for anymore Trick-Or-Treating.” She groaned as she walked toward the door.
🎃
Dylan's waterbed was a queen sized plastic bladder which set inside a mahogany frame atop a large plywood base. The plywood base was essentially a hollow rectangle, the corners of which were held together by simple bronze brackets and screws. A few summers ago however, Dylan had taken to rearranging his room, to accommodate more bird cages, and had basically drug his bed from one side of the room to the other.
Aside from begin extremely fortunate the whole thing hadn't collapsed on top of him, he had managed to bust the brackets off of one of the corners at the foot of the bed. The whole plywood base now leaned precariously to one side toward the far wall. In fact, if not for the weight of the mahogany frame pressing against the wall, holding itself up, the base itself would undoubtedly collapse. Dylan didn't know this, and neither did his mother, who, even when she did have time for him, was not someone you would consider, handy around the house, or even, noticeable about such things.
Dylan could, and did often, easily pull back the piece of plywood at the foot of the bed, revealing an opening about four feet wide. Most of the time he stashed candy in there, a few times he had even crawled in there himself and pretended he was in a secret cave or a submarine or even an underground base. One time he had even stashed one of the dirty magazines his mother kept in the room upstairs, so he could get a look at some of the pictures of the men and women inside with no clothes on, but he was horrified to find that pictures of his own mother occupied most of the space inside of the magazine. That moment had pretty much turned Dylan Rawls off of pornography forever.
This time, he had something much bigger to stash under his waterbed.
In the first few seconds after stabbing the little girl, he had done nothing but stare at her. His eyes narrow like slits, his tongue out in a gesture of complete focus and concentration. He towered over the little girl and watched her tiny body, waiting for any sign of movement, at which he would bring the knife down again. But then, a very strange thing happened—at least strange for him. He fancied later that all the great killers on TV and in the movies probably wouldn't think it was strange. They were so used to killing all the time, they were probably used to all the ins and outs of it.
The girl made a noise.
It was kind of a cross between a sigh and a snore. A strange guttural exhale that passed out of her tiny frame and into the quiet stillness of the bedroom.
Dylan's eyes widened, not excessively for he had been squinting, they just sort of..evened out to their normal shape. His face took on the very definition of a cold, blank, stare and he cocked his head to one side, relaxing his arm, and letting the knife fall toward his hip. He stood looking like that for a moment, mesmerized. It was if the very life of the little girl had passed out of her and into..
Into what?
The room?
Space?
Heaven?
As he pondered this, he was jarred back to reality by a strange muffled..
WAP...WAP...WAP
He looked down and noticed that the little pocket knife he was holding was dripping blood unto the area rug.
He was horrified.
He wasn't horrified at the fact that he had murdered a beautiful little creature that now lay broken and bleeding on the floor before him. That had of course been a necessary thing, after all, the damned thing just wouldn't stop that crazy twitching, knowing full well how much it was freaking Dylan out.
No.
He was horrified that there was BLOOD on his carpet.
He looked it over.
There was in fact a lot of blood. He didn't know how much blood exactly he should have expected, again, he was new to this whole stabbing people with knives business, but there was definitely a lot of blood, everywhere.
Dylan's horror morphed into terror.
Again, not at the deed. The deed was done and what was done was done after all. You couldn't take it back, you just move on and learn from it, anyway, that's what his mother would say.
Terror in knowing that the blood would give away what had transpired here.
The blood would get him caught.
As long as no one found Maddie Keane, no one really had to know what Dylan Rawls had done now did they? It was nobody's business. Dylan didn't have to spend the rest of his days locked up in Juvie or wherever they put child killers, as interesting as a place like that sounded to him. No. Nobody had to find Maddie Keane. She could just go missing.
That would be even better, he smiled to himself. If she just went missing, her mommy wouldn't have to know that she was even dead. She would just think she ran away and not knowing what ever happened to her would be better than knowing what did happen to her, wouldn't it?
Dylan was proud of the conclusions he had drawn.
And, he thought, I have just the best hiding place in the world. No one would ever look under that bed, and I still have the bracket and screws for it in a drawer somewhere. I could fix it and seal it up like it's supposed to be and no one would ever know. It should be fixed anyway, it shouldn't be leaning like that anyway. It's probably dangerous.
He nodded to himself and looked over the scene. Most of the blood was on the rug, pooling underneath the girl, spreading out in a fan from under her little body.
All I have to do is wrap her up in the rug, he figured. Wrap her up and slide her underneath. The rest I can clean up off the tile with a few paper towels.
Dylan walked around the body of Maddie Keane, gripped the side of the rug upon which she lay, and lifted. It was just then that he heard the doorbell downstairs.
“Hello ma'am, I'm Officer Danielle Rattner and this is Officer Joe Wallace of the Warren County Police Department and we just want to ask you a few questions, it will just take a second of your time.”
Chelsea frowned and rubbed her nose with the back of her hand nervously. “Um..I'm sorry, what's this about?”
The female cop in front of her smiled. “It's nothing big really ma'am, we just want you to be aware that we have reason to believe a few dangerous individuals may be in the area and we just want you to be on the safe side.”
“What? Who?” Chelsea shook her head. She was pretty sure he buzz from the joint she had smoked earlier was long gone but seeing two uniformed officers on the front step sure ratcheted up the paranoia a notch.
The male cop passed her a piece of paper. There were two men, both very similar looking, one was older than the other and the younger of the two had a gap in his front teeth. “Have you seen these men?”
Chelsea took the picture, looked at it, and then smiled. “Oh shit, is this a prank?” She asked. “I saw these guys on the news this morning.”
The female cop, Officer Rattner shook her head. “'Fraid not ma'am. We have reason to believe that the Chumway Brothers are in the vicinity of Warren County as we speak and we are asking everyone to be vigilant and just be on their lookout for these two very dangerous individuals.”
“Oh shit,” Chelsea breathed, trying to remember what she had heard about them on the news that morning but remembering nothing. But if it made the news it must have been bad, she thought.
“Okay,” she replied, gripping the door to close it, “I'll keep an eye out.”
“One more thing ma'am.” Officer Rattner held out her hand to stop her. “We have one more dangerous person on the loose, an escaped patient from a psychiatric facility nearby.”
Now this Chelsea did remember in detail, but only because the story was so improbable that she couldn't believe it. “Are you talking about Michael Myers?” She asked, “That guy who killed everybody when he was a kid?”
The male officer nodded. “Yes ma'am.”
“You guys haven't caught him yet?” Chelsea asked.
The woman's radio crackled. The voice that came through sounded an octave too high. Tense and earnest.
“One-Nine-Seven-Four seeking One-Nine-Two-Five do you copy?!”
Officer Rattner smiled. “Excuse me.” She said and turned, walking back down the driveway toward Matthew Street.
Officer Wallace continued, “We have not apprehended the suspect yet, no. We have reason to believe he may be wearing a blue jumpsuit. He's very tall, large build.”
“I'm here Andy, what's up?” Officer Rattner could be heard from the end of the driveway.
“So he's not a kid anymore?” Chelsea laughed.
“We need assistance at the corner of Orange and 9th! We have a stabbing victim and attempted home invasion. Sheriff Brackett is also en-route, he wants all available units to meet him there! Over!” Squawked Officer Rattner's radio.
“No I'm afraid he's not.” Officer Wallace chuckled.
“Ok, we'll be right there. Over and Out. Hey Joe!” Officer Rattner called from the end of the driveway.
Joe turned. “Yeah?”
“We gotta go, something going down in Orange Grove.” she replied.
Joe sighed, “Goodnight miss.”
Chelsea smiled and shut the door.
She walked back into the living room and stood in the doorway, temporarily lost in thought.
Her son Josh didn't look up from the television when he asked, “Who was that at the door?”
Chelsea didn't answer.
Josh looked at her, “Mom?”
Chelsea blinked and shook her head. “Oh..nobody. Where's the kids?”
It had been difficult, but Dylan had managed to roll the body of little Maddie Keane up inside the rug and fit her into the opening under his waterbed. The rug was too long for it all to fit straight in, and he found that he was unable to put the piece of plywood at the foot of the bed back into place. So he had crawled in under the bed and slid the rug with the young girl inside sideways. After this, the piece of wood fit back snugly. He didn't attach the brackets now however, figuring he could just do that later.
After this was accomplished he had set about cleaning the rest of the drops of blood from the tile floor using a bottle of Windex and most of the roll of paper towels he kept next to the bird cages. Luckily, very little of the blood had fallen into the grout of the tile and what had mattered little because the grout on the floor was black anyway, so it was hard to see unless you knew where to look. Dylan tossed the bloody knife and the bloody paper-towels into his waste basket and then pulled the trash bag out of the can and stuffed that under the bed as well. He kept a box of trash bags under one of the bird cages and was applying a new bag to the can when there was knock on the door.
🔪
Chelsea Keane opened it without an invitation.
“Wow,” Chelsea exclaimed, “Cleaning our room?”
“Yes!” Dylan barked, immediately ashamed of how his voice cracked as he answered. He sounded overly excited.
“It smells so clean in here.” said Chelsea smiling at him.
“That's the Windex.” Dylan replied.
“Uh huh,” Chelsea smiled. “Where's the girls?”
“I don't know where Cammie is.” Dylan answered.
“Well where is Maddie?” Chelsea asked, frowning.
Dylan shrugged.
“I thought she was playing with you.”
“We were playing the Wii,” Dylan answered, “But I didn't want to play anymore.”
Chelsea turned and left without a word.
Dylan felt like he could finally breathe again.
As the police officers walked back to their vehicle, Cammie climbed back up in the office chair and turned to the old man.
Same expression...or lack thereof.
Half opened eyes, half opened mouth, looking at the game, but even at Cammie's young age, she wondered in some abstract way if he was really seeing the game.
“Welcome back to Wrigley Field as we move into the bottom of the seventh inning, the White Sox have a 2-0 lead on their cross town rivals in this decisive Game Seven of the World Series. And the Cubs will bring a new pitcher into the ballgame now...”
The door to the little room burst open, flooding the room with light.
“Maddie?” Chelsea Keane called, her face haggard in the soft light of the television, her eyes were wide. They fixed on Cammie in the chair.
“What are you doing in here?” She asked, “Come out of there this instant. Who told you to go in there?”
Cammie hopped out of the chair at once and filed out into the hallway with her babysitter.
“Why were you in that room?” Chelsea asked the girl as she closed the door behind her. “Where's Maddie?”
“I don't know.” Cammie replied, her eyes growing cloudy.
“Why were you in there?” Chelsea asked again, growing impatient.
“They said I couldn't play with them.” Cammie said, her face breaking.
“Who said?” Chelsea asked.
“Dylan. He said that fat girls couldn't play.” A tear spilled out of the chubby little girl's left eye and dripped down her pink cheek.
Chelsea rolled her eyes and fumed. “Well, where is Maddie?” She asked.
“I don't know.” Cammie answered.
Josh Keane appeared at the end of the hallway. Penny was up and standing behind him, her hair disheveled. She yawned, covering her mouth.
“What's going on mom?” Josh asked.
“I can't find Maddie.” Chelsea said.
“Well let's look for her. This house is huge.”
The four of them stepped back out into the living room. Dylan had made his way down the stairs. As the group walked passed him, he plopped unto the end of the couch where Josh had been sitting, and picked up the remote for the television. Cammie sat down beside him, although, not too close beside him, she slid to the other end of the piece of furniture.
“You two check upstairs, and I'll check the pool hall...oh my god, the pool!” Chelsea exclaimed and jerked open one of the sliding glass doors.
Cammie watched worriedly as the woman practically leaped outside and the other two teenager bounded up the stairs. Then he turned to Dylan.
Dylan payed them no attention, he giggled at the television where Spongebob Squarepants was trying to figure out how to save his friend Patrick the Starfish who was currently buried up to his neck---if starfish had necks---in sand.

Best Crankbait Rod
This best crankbait rod combos provide you with the power to cast the small bait but provde the backbone wanted to reel them in fast and set the hook deep. St. Croix Premier Muskie Casting Rod hook on a muskie, you had higher have a rod with some backbone if you wish to land your quarry. The factor is, though, they actually must be named treble hook rods or response bait rods because the design features they have will enable you fish more effectively with any bait that has a treble hook on it. Total, wind blowing on a naked financial institution creates prime feeding conditions, and it causes the bass to be shallower and extra energetic. Nonetheless, are my really helpful finest bait for bass throughout Spring and Fall. For instance, on my lake the crabs are blue with vibrant orange and I discovered the Bandit 200 series Humble Bee to work the very best for both Bass and Walleyes. Seeing bass execs work a crankbait is like watching magicians carry out. One thing similar to the crankbait is spinner bait.
For fishing this system as a crank bait? I was utilizing my lipless crank bait rod, which is 7'11 and very heavy and long. Bait casting is quite difficult. When utilizing a snap to permit quick bait adjustments, make sure you take away the break up rings in your baits! I couldn't get the contact on the bait and it confirmed, as I had one or two lost, and one broken invoice. In fact one of many pioneers in the crankbait category is Invoice Lewis along with his Rat-L-Lure. Which makes the best crankbait rod? St. Croix Avid Collection Spinning Rod - 7 ,The Avid Series Spinning Rod from St. Croix provides very good sensitivity, excessive strength, and glorious durability-all in a lightweight package. For this application, I turn to Yamamoto’s 7’0” ML (medium light) spinning rod. E6X 843C CBR - This rod has the softest action within the group and is rated for eight-14lb line and crankbaits as much as 5/8 oz. We advocate this rod for squarebill crankbaits up to medium divers. CRANKBAIT FISHING Challenge Ep.1 | KastKing Pace Demon Bass Rod Overview! There may be one drawback to this rod though, it’s seven toes lengthy and is a single piece design. Water temps were round ninety, we fished between 10-18 toes all day, never seeing any grass. For example, bigger crankbaits are likely to have a more pronounced wobble that appears neither appetizing nor sensible in colder water temperatures. Massive pauses will give more time for gradual or lazy fish attack lure and will appeal to not only backside feeders, however predators which can be in other water layers too. This works nicely on hot days when the fish are actually hiding. To begin with you want to determine at what depth the fish are holding. As an illustration, if the bass best small crankbait rod are foraging and cruising about over flats or up and down points, a tandem spinnerbait is a very good selection. In other instances, fishermen might want to go by the rod specs with a view to make an knowledgeable alternative.
This turns into extra of a priority with the longer rod sorts that we talked about earlier within the 7 1/2- to 8-foot range. Jigs and Texas/Carolina Rigged Worms - 7'0" as much as 7'6" rod lengths depending on the load. Crankbaits prompt reaction strikes from fish which may research and finally reject one thing smaller and slower shifting. Fish slower and don't run from spot to spot but fish an space totally. Naked banks in deeper and/or older lakes have a tendency to draw extra fish than do comparable banks in shallow, newer lakes. No crankbaits go deeper than that. Buoyancy (Floating & Suspending) - Balsa wood crankbaits float to the surface faster than plastic crankbaits. Folks can discover this with plastic tails ultimately that could be curly or straight, which actually looks like a smaller fish, which these creatures love to eat. panda’s music player tutorial!!
so i made this a couple of weeks ago for ma discord friendos on the cool beans server so they could get music players and i hate having posts floating around in my drafts so i just thought i’d publish this! the screenshots are from ages ago when my theme was all autumnal and aren’t great quality, but hopefully this can help you get a music player if you want one! instructions under the cut!
1. head to my blog and click the hyperlink in my music player on the words wikplayer (or go to https://www.wikplayer.com/)
2. this will take you to wikplayer’s website were you can create the code for your music player! scroll down a little a bit until you can see the white box. the tab above it should be on step 1. go ahead and click on create a new playlist!
3. then choose your skin on step 2. i would use a full player. i originally used one of the less crazy skins on page 2, but if you find and would like to use a custom skin, then click the custom skin option and copy the link for it. if you would like to use the custom skin i use, just ask and i can send it to you! then click next.
4. you should now be on step 3, and this is were you make the actual playlist. set it to manual playlist. put the song title as you would like each song to appear when it comes up on your blog, and then link it. you can do this by linking each to a youtube video (but it will obviously only play the audio) - i would use a lyric video as they usually play the song without out any extra music/sound at the end or start of the video. youtube links can also occasionally pick up ads when played on your blog, so using a lyric video might be better as it is less likely to be monetised or have ads. you can also do what did for the first song in my playlist - uploading a mp3 link. the website advises dropbox, and that’s what i use anyway, so i’m not sure if it works with any other download host websites, but feel free to try this! make sure you add d1= to any mp3 download links. you can also add more songs by clicking on the bottom left button. you can check the songs work by clicking on the play buttons next to them, and i would check all of them before you move on so you don’t have to come back and recreate the code! then click next.
5. step 4! here you can change basically how you playlist runs: autoplay: plays first song when blog web page is open without having to press play on player shuffle playback: shuffles the songs each time a blog’s web page is open default volume: the volume the music is played at when first played show playlist by default: show playlist tab when opening blog marquee text: song title moves depending on length from right to left when playing. if off, whole title is shown, but usually cut off or shrunk. when you finished, and are sure everything on the previous steps is ready to go, then click done!
6. now you have the code for your music player! copy all of it!
7. head to your blog’s customisation page - where you would go to change your theme, add pages, etc. click edit html.
8. find your body tag. you can do this super quickly by clicking the gear in the top left, going to find and replace and typing body in the search for box. it will either look like mine does with an inequality before it: < , or just the word on it’s own with a curly bracket: { . paste the code you copied from 6. and hit update preview and save.
and that’s it! if you have any problems feel free to shoot me a message on the discord / on tumblr!
