a novel love story by ashley poston
sometimes, a book can change your life. It’s hard to explain that to someone who doesn’t read, or who has never felt their heart bend so strongly toward a story that it might just snap in two. Some books are a comfort, some a reprieve, others a vacation, a lesson, a heartbreak.

A Language of Limbs: The first love of a teenage girl is a powerful thing, particularly when the object of that desire is her best friend, also a girl.
A Novel Love Story: A professor of literature finds herself caught up in a work of fiction… literally.
French Windows: Nathalia, therapist suggests that she write about the neighbours she idly observes in the building across the street. But as these written snapshots become increasingly detailed, he starts to wonder how she can possibly know so much about them.

We Shall Be Monsters: Frankenstein meets Indian mythology in this twisty, darkly atmospheric fantasy where the horror is not the monsters you face but the ones you create.
What I Would Do to You: The death penalty is back. But if the victim’s family wants the perpetrator to die, they have to do it themselves. Twenty-four hours alone in a room with the condemned. No cameras. No microphones.
You're Safe Here: Wellness, motherhood, and technology converge in a future California as three women’s seemingly innocuous decisions have consequences greater than they could imagine.

⋆˙⊹ Non-Arcs Kindle Haul ⊹˙⋆
Hauled some new books on my Kindle 🙈 They are a combination of Fantasy, Queer, Romance, and Horror which are one of my fave to read ✨ All of these are already released!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leather & Lark (The Ruinous Love #2)- Dark contemporary romance, with gory/ horror content. Gave the first book, Butcher & Blackbird a 4 ⭐ A Novel Love Story- A contemporary romance with magic realism in which fmc/ reader finds herself in her favorite romance book series. A Darker Mischief- The Honeys meets The Secret History in a work of dark academia like no other -- a boarding school thriller about a queer teen from Mississippi who finds himself swept into a world of old money, privilege, and the secret society at the heart of it all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Actor and His Secret- A queer romance where a movie star and a book publicist had a one-night stand! Only For The Week- African American Romance Novel, sister of the bride (who's also the ex of the groom 🙈) X best man! Crossroads- Cowboy, childhood friends-lovers romance!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Feather so Black- Fantasy Romance series with Celtic Mythology! Also tagged with a love triangle with a morally grey love interest. The Sky on Fire- From the acclaimed author of the Chorus of Dragons series, this propulsive new standalone fantasy is Dragonriders of Pern for a modern audience. I think I've heard that this is gonna be a full high fantasy novel with no romance. Empire of Silence- Hadrian Marlowe, a man revered as a hero and despised as a murderer, chronicles his tale in the galaxy-spanning debut of the Sun Eater series, merging the best of space opera and epic fantasy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scarlet- Historical fiction series set in Revolutionary France with vampires and fantasy elements. The Deer and the Dragon- Urban Fantasy with Mythology with angels and demons. Tender is the Flesh- Dystopia fiction where the government has legalized eating special meat- humans because of the virus of animal meat.
Super excited about these titles. I'm soon to be making my non arcs tbr for next month so hopefully some of these will be listed ❤

[" i needed to get lost in a book. more than i needed anything else."]
| ✮ 3 stars |
[short review]
THOUGHTS ° ᡣ𐭩 . ° .
if i have to hear about ander's "MiNtY gReEn EyEs" ONE. MORE. TIME. IM. GOING. TO. LOSE. IT.
like. 19 times. nineteen. for a 357 pg book. i dont think i'll ever be able to hear the word minty in a sentence without getting flashbacks to this book.
also, please ashley never for the love of god describe a guy with white blond hair and minty green eyes ever again. what in the draco malfoy rip off are you trying to create?????
on a side note: it was really interesting to read about the fictional town and the cute way all the characters interacted.
if im being completely honest here. i've forgotten quite a bit abt this book mostly due to the fact that i left this for a while before writing this review. and because the book just wasnt that memorable. like i can remember key parts and stuff but other than that i cant remember character's names *cough* the main characters *cough*
the ending felt weird and like rushed (though i didn't guess the plot twist) i was kind of just left sitting there like huh???? ok i guess?
so yeah idk it wasn't my cup of tea. i was interested when i realised that the dead romantics is 'connected' to this book in a little way and now i wanna read it hehe.
also this is like the 4th 3ish star book ive had in a row im PRAYING PRAYING for the next one to be better 😭

things i've been reading lately!
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang - Everyone said this book was intense and they were not lying. I'd previously listed to like the first third on audiobook, but had to return it to the library before I had finished. I picked up a used copy at my favorite indie and took it on vacation to read earlier this month. R.F. Kuang is an oddly polarizing author, people either think she's the best writer to ever exist or think she massively sucks and I've barely seen any moderate options. I thought The Poppy War was well done. I liked the characters, thought the world building and magic was cool, and enjoyed the character development. It was a war novel thought and very intense so I'm not quite sure if I liked the novel or enjoyed reading it? I think I want to read the rest of the trilogy, but I need a long break first.
A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston - Read this in one day (both by the pool and in the pool) and it was SO GOOD. I've read quite a few of Poston's book before- both her YA geeky modern fairy tale retellings, and her adult romance The Seven Year Slip (also I tried to read Dead Romantics but was VERY annoyed to realize it was R*ylo fanfic in disguise, the mmc's name is Ben Andor of all things like cmon.)-  but I think this one may be my favorite. I just adore the premise. The main character gets stuck in her favorite unfinished book series and ends up falling for the grumpy bookstore owner who is the only one who knows they're in a book. It's funny, heartwarming, and just so so good. (My only complaint is that K*lo R*n shows up at the end for a cameo)
Elizabeth of East Hampton by Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding - I've read another book by this author duo, Emma of 83rd Street, which was an Emma retelling and liked it quite a lot, so I was very excited to get an earc of this new book which was a Pride and Prejudice retelling! I read it in basically one sitting (a five hour plane flight home) and greatly enjoyed it. It's set in the Hampton's where Lizzy's family owns a bakery and Will Darcy rents a house for the summer. I really enjoyed some of the changes, including changing the Wickam arc, but was sad that Georgiana Darcy was cut from the story. Lizzy and Will's relationship was very cute, very true to the source material, and it was fun that they bonded over surfing of all things. Fun novel, very summer-y! Recommend if you like Jane Austen retellings.

I finished reading A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston, and I loved the premise, but it was so cute that I despised it. After 180 pages or so, it was like: characters with no personalities whatsoever, weird relationship growth or whatever that was, and just the book in the book being quoted repeatedly.

Most Anticipated New Book Releases June 2024
There was a substantial but not ridiculous new release list for June 2024 to file through. Maybe I’m in a bit of a mood, or there weren’t many titles that I found appealing, because there were only three that I definitely want to get my hands on… the rest sound interesting but given I’m now on a book buying ban, I’m not sure if I’ll pick up. But still I find the premise intriguing. With four…
