so somehow it’s the first time I’ve seen your Dogs illustration from May. it’s very very cool and strongly reminds me of AI-generated art — did you use AI to inspire the shapes? or otherwise influence the piece somehow? interested in your process! very cool.
yes! some more directly reference ai images id generated than others lol

#these were made in artbreeder (formerly called ganbreeder)#theyre obviously shifting their focus to ai art if u couldnt tell by the name change#which is unfortunate but they still have available the original ai image generator i used years ago#these pics are just the ones i remember referencing#i referenced a ton of different images to get a good idea of how to make the dogs sufficiently fucked up#i have a bunch of older horror art on here that was very inspired by ai images but most of the time i didnt use references#just tried to emulate the effect of ai#i want to start using references more often so i can get a better feel for this stuff and get better at emulating that effect without them#its def challanging trying to draw something that just barely registers as a thing without drawing the thing itself#and that emulates the uncannyness of ai images#i also dont want to just draw the ai images one to one exactly as they are i more so want to create the same feeling that they create#while still having it be my own thing#its honestly kinda hard to explain the process of drawing this stuff just bc of the nature of ai images lol

little snapshots of a mod i have been working on for a few days, cenozoicraft, understandably based around adding cenozoic animals to the minecraft world along with neolithic tools. its heavily based around hunting and utilizing animal parts. most of what is here is tamable and rideable with fun little taming mechanics, so dont expect to be able to waltz up to a smilodon. more to come soon
#there are a few effects i havent shown here besides from the ''hunters vision'' in the first one. still a prototype but the general idea#anyways i am pretty proud of what i have accomplished so far. everything here has and will have unique mechanics and ai. i am excited#on the bucketlist: mammoths! finishing up the mammoth steppe and arctic biomes. enchantments that assist in hunting#predator ai needs some work. neanderthals are on the list as well. several sets of armor and curios are planned#and of course many#many animals#and many decorative blocks#minecraft#blockbench#mcreator#modded minecraft#cenozoic#paleo#paleoart#paleontology#neolithic#cenozoicraft#rorys art

//I don't want to add this rule, but this is moreso to cover all bases. I've had to include this in all my art ToS on Vgen, so it's going here as well
-
I will unfollow/block if I catch you using AI in your writing/art/icons. My stance is that Generative AI has no place in any creative space and I have zero tolerance in anyone using it. We are here to be creative. Using Gen AI defeats the purpose of that.
-
If you don't agree, there is an unfollow button right there. 👋
#//this is now on my rules page#As a professional creative in the industry#the effect of ai in the creative space is a fucking poison#I refuse to use it in my workflows#If you cannot create something without falling back on generated crap - then practice!#go outside - read books - practice drawing or use pre-existing non-ai art!#you dont need to rely on this crap to make something#*coughs* anyway#this is my stance. it is not shifting

i wonder if part of the reason folks who create "art" (be is visual, text, music, or whatever) using generative AI are so insistent and defensive of it being theirs has a big part to due with the IKEA effect

The other day I was having a "struggle day" with writing. Nothing I write is coming out fluid, it is sluggish and stilted. I spent a majority of my time writing outlines, trying to tether abstract images that flicker like a distorted slideshow across my brain to a more concrete tangible form.
But if I was to tell certain people in my life this, their first suggestion would be, "If you're struggling with writing, you should use ChatGPT to help you!"
Pushing past the ethics debacle aside for a moment, I don't know how to describe how much that doesn't help with my plight. As much as I dislike creating a rough draft, it is where the idea takes birth. It's through writing the initial scene where I discover a character's motivation or a facet of the world that never crosses my mind until I begin carving away at its rough edges.
The machine doesn't understand the way I'd take a plot point and expand upon it. The machine can't capture my exact phrasing. Technology hasn't developed enough to take a vague idea sloshing inside my skull and glimmer it into existence in front of me in exactly the way I wanted it to be.
I don't always enjoy the rough draft process, but it is a crucial part of the process. I don't want a "paint by numbers" experience. I want to start with a blank canvas and finish with a nauseating, illustrative kaleidoscope of my innermost thoughts and feelings. I want my hands to be stained by the ink and sweat of my own efforts.
I don't care if I get "lost in the past" for wanting that, I'd rather let my words be unfettered and untainted by the uniformity of what a machine thinks is the most "right" way of phrasing words based on trillions of words unrightfully seized by avarice.
#writing#writeblr#writers on tumblr#kat talks#Like I care deeply about AI scraping that is a huge concern#But as a comms major who has studied other 'communication revolutions' AI is not going away#Right now a majority of the population tinkering with AI has had experience formulating words without its aid#so they can take a prompt AI feeds them and they know how to modify it to fit their needs#but how will it effect the communication for those who are growing up with this?#Like I think even if you're not a writer there is value in learning how to put into words your thoughts and feelings on things#I fear kids just using AI and tweaking the prompt until it sounds more 'natural' and will struggle to write without it#hate to sound like 'kids with phones these days dont know how to talk but#it's worth considering how it could impact cognitive thinking for a future generation

Actually a random really fascinating thing to me:
At work they have a poster up in the lunchroom advertising a social event at a nearby winery. The image used, like another I've seen from this group, is obviously AI-generated, involving a group of people on a bus travelling through the countryside.
It's a perfectly adequate image. Except, there's one very strange thing about it: on the left hand side of the bus, the people inside... look a bit down and depressed? For no clear reason? Outside the bus, it's all pretty and sunlit and idyllic. It's just inside the bus that the entire area seems a bit grey and sad.
And if I had to guess why... it's got to be that meme about the two people on the bus, right? With one grinning and happily looking out the window, while the other sadly looks down at his lap?!
It's not a clear reference, since like I said: the outdoors part of the image looks perfectly cheery. But... does the predominance of that one meme image affect the way image generation models think people on buses 'have' to look like?!
#it's really fascinating bc like. humans do things LIKE THIS a lot as well#where e.g. one really famous image of something affects the way we can envision any other version of it#but this is..........not the way that sort of effect would happen on humans at all hahahaha#I mean. apart from the fact that buses are super common in general#ai art#ai

fundamentally you need to understand that the internet-scraping text generative AI (like ChatGPT) is not the point of the AI tech boom. the only way people are making money off that is through making nonsense articles that have great search engine optimization. essentially they make a webpage that’s worded perfectly to show up as the top result on google, which generates clicks, which generates ads. text generative ai is basically a machine that creates a host page for ad space right now.
and yeah, that sucks. but I don’t think the commercialized internet is ever going away, so here we are. tbh, I think finding information on the internet, in books, or through anything is a skill that requires critical thinking and cross checking your sources. people printed bullshit in books before the internet was ever invented. misinformation is never going away. I don’t think text generative AI is going to really change the landscape that much on misinformation because people are becoming educated about it. the text generative AI isn’t a genius supercomputer, but rather a time-saving tool to get a head start on identifying key points of information to further research.
anyway. the point of the AI tech boom is leveraging big data to improve customer relationship management (CRM) to streamline manufacturing. businesses collect a ridiculous amount of data from your internet browsing and purchases, but much of that data is stored in different places with different access points. where you make money with AI isn’t in the Wild West internet, it’s in a structured environment where you know the data its scraping is accurate. companies like nvidia are getting huge because along with the new computer chips, they sell a customizable ecosystem along with it.
so let’s say you spent 10 minutes browsing a clothing retailer’s website. you navigated directly to the clothing > pants tab and filtered for black pants only. you added one pair of pants to your cart, and then spent your last minute or two browsing some shirts. you check out with just the pants, spending $40. you select standard shipping.
with AI for CRM, that company can SIGNIFICANTLY more easily analyze information about that sale. maybe the website developers see the time you spent on the site, but only the warehouse knows your shipping preferences, and sales audit knows the amount you spent, but they can’t see what color pants you bought. whereas a person would have to connect a HUGE amount of data to compile EVERY customer’s preferences across all of these things, AI can do it easily.
this allows the company to make better broad decisions, like what clothing lines to renew, in which colors, and in what quantities. but it ALSO allows them to better customize their advertising directly to you. through your browsing, they can use AI to fill a pre-made template with products you specifically may be interested in, and email it directly to you. the money is in cutting waste through better manufacturing decisions, CRM on an individual and large advertising scale, and reducing the need for human labor to collect all this information manually.
(also, AI is great for developing new computer code. where a developer would have to trawl for hours on GitHUB to find some sample code to mess with to try to solve a problem, the AI can spit out 10 possible solutions to play around with. thats big, but not the point right now.)
so I think it’s concerning how many people are sooo focused on ChatGPT as the face of AI when it’s the least profitable thing out there rn. there is money in the CRM and the manufacturing and reduced labor. corporations WILL develop the technology for those profits. frankly I think the bigger concern is how AI will affect big data in a government ecosystem. internet surveillance is real in the sense that everything you do on the internet is stored in little bits of information across a million different places. AI will significantly impact the government’s ability to scrape and compile information across the internet without having to slog through mountains of junk data.
#which isn’t meant to like. scare you or be doomerism or whatever#but every take I’ve seen about AI on here has just been very ignorant of the actual industry#like everything is abt AI vs artists and it’s like. that’s not why they’re developing this shit#that’s not where the money is. that’s a side effect.#ai#generative ai

I feel i should say now that i vehemently HATE ai and that even treating it as a joke is just not funny at all. There is nothing funny about very real, very human creativity being put through a blender to create something without humanity in it.
#i keep seeing ai generated images on my dash and i just dont think people realize what they’re sharing…#its just so disheartening to see that people have grown blind or comfy with it#i treat this topic very seriously because it seriously effects myself and other artists like me#the more i see it happen the less i want to share my art online#the thought of my art being used for something like that makes me feel sick
