Never getting over Fulcrum being a project manager...
Idk why, but something about that is so funny to me. Not just because the title of "project manager" is inherently kinda funny for a Decepticon, but also because-
1. It's vague sounding and hard to explain irl because it technically exists in multiple fields, like healthcare or manufacturing, which surely translates into canon in some way.
2. In canon, it's simultaneously a really mundane, innocuous sounding job, yet it's also a super morally awful position to reside over depending on the context. (*cough* forced colonization and cyberforming *cough*)
And 3. It solidifies the fact that behind all the surface level militaristic work we get with both the Decepticons and Autobots, there's also Cons and Bots with "normal" jobs in both factions.
Like, sure yeah we get scientists and doctors, engineers and programmers, but usually in big important or warfront positions. (For plot reasons, understandably.) But it's also really funny and interesting to think of those that worked background positions, or minor jobs.
Like an Autobot working in their equivalent of an HR department, or a Decepticon who runs one of their outpost's or starship's kitchens.
Just all the pre-war jobs that didn't just disappear with the war, but instead evolved to exist within the factions.
It's particularly funny with the Decepticons though, because it could be a super mundane job or situation, but because it's them, it has to have an air of ~e v i l~ to it, either legitimately and/or merely for the vibes, like Tarn's "performance reviews".
#theres this one comedy thing. a think its from that like. puppet comedian dude??? cant remember the name rn-#-buts theres a bit about a person in the crowd being a project manager and how silly the job sounds#at some point the person the project manager is with gets pointed out when the comedian asks smth along the lines of-#-''is he a project you're managing? he looks pretty managed to me.'' smth smth. thats fulcrum and the scavs to me#idw fulcrum#fulcrum#mtmte#tf idw#idw tarn#tarn#transformers#maccadam#Decepticons being cartoonishly evil while doing mundane shit will never not be funny to me#'i need to send an evil email to my evil boss about an evil supply chain issue involving my evil workers evil rations and evil mail'#<- fulcrum#sorry. yes he is a tragic yet simultaneously silly guy. but i will never not shut up about his stupid awful job#''he's a project manager!'' oh yay :D! ''he's overseeing the destruction and forced cyberformation of a whole planet'' ...what#not saying he deserved being turned into a bomb. but i think a solid uhh maybe 1000+ organics get a free chance to spit on him or smth#get his ass lmao. i swear hes one of my favs. its just he is objectively an asshole. and i must speak on it bcs i love him#sort of unrelated. but along the same vein of jobs and positions in the Decepticons. ive been trying to puzzle out Krok and Fulcrum's ranks#and. it might not be accurate. idk what sort of ranking system bullshit is going on in canon. so im going off what i know#but. im figuring krok was some sort of warrant-esque officer? aka. he was a general solider. who worked his way up through skill to NCO-#-then specialized in strategy to the point of becoming a warrant officer for strategy and studies. so. higher than NCO but lower than CO#so on the other hand. fulcrum is a CO. bcs he wasnt a solider. he was a technician. but also in advanced management. so. CO???#for irl comparison. NCO/Warrant = worked towards over time from low ranks. CO = fast tracked bcs of formal education or smth#(take the irl comparison with a grain of salt. im not an expert on that shit. i just considered becoming a CO bcs of pressure once)#((CO in this context stands for commissioned officer. not commanding officer btw. so. its like management shit))#(not that i think cons have commissions or anything. just using the terminology as a place holder or smth ig)#who outranks who is debatable bcs canon doesn't specify rank. but if going off this as a basis. fulc would outrank krok by a technicality#but. assumedly. battle experience is seen as more impressive and noteworthy to cons. so its more likely krok outranked fulc bcs of that

end of the season thoughts that got away from me after i started typing!
this was probably not the team that would have won the super bowl anyway, as devastating as this is and as fun as it would have been for The Narrative :(
i am impressed with how a lot of the young defensive guys rallied, even if a lot of it was against mediocre to average offenses. i think we've got a lot of potential in mckinnley, fig, dj ivey (and dj turner and dax too. provided they heal up well). kris jenkins had flashes but i'm hearing conflicting things about him (i love his personality though) so hopefully he continues to figure things out. CTB had a very up and down season, hopefully he works out whatever was going on with him and come back next year solid.
i think lou is out, i don't see how he can't be. even with this win streak (again, against mostly bad offenses). it's a shame because he's a master schemer and knows how to stop elite QBs like pat and josh. but we've used almost ALL of our first to third round draft picks on defensive players the last few years (amarius being the only exception!) and none of them have developed like we'd hoped?? we need a DC who can work with guys where they're at. develop them and create a scheme that they can understand and thrive in!
i also think pollack HAS to be gone. even being generous and saying that ted and orlando had their best passing PFF grades this season, and amarius developed better than people thought, it's still not enough. the way that joe plays, the way that we structure our offense, makes it INCREDIBLY difficult for any o-line guy. this is a fact. and the other fact is that pollack's background is one that emphasizes the run and other kinds of offense (i believe. i was reading this from some of the o-line experts on twitter lol). he's not a good fit for what we want to do. it's time to move on.
i'd also like to move on from sam, as heartbreaking as that is. he's not the same player he was, and he's being paid too much for what he's been able to give us the last few years. rankins also obviously has to go, he barely made it on the field and even when he did, he did not at all live up to his contract. they are two of our highest paid players on defense and moving on from them can only help us cap-wise as well.
we've gotta pick up some help in free agency. anyone we can get on d-line and some guards too. i wouldn't mind adding a vet safety and a vet CB as well.
as for the draft, looks like we're gonna end up around 17 (lol one lower than last year!) and i'd say again we need to focus on defense. an edge or a tackle, someone who can HELP trey with the pass rush because we've got nothing. i also wouldn't mind a CB. because again, we have very little there reliably. then i'd say drafting a guard and another running back (in the mid rounds) should be the priority.
i'd also say we HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO extend tee and ja'marr this offseason. the pressure joe has put on the front office!!! the agent switch!!! how amazing tee is when he plays and the NOTICEABLE difference when he's out (that second half last night!!) tee is a NEED and i have to believe the FO will work with these guys to figure something out. the fact that they have the same agent i think is going to be a huge help in this. plus joe's not so subtle threats. (if they fuck this up he's gone after his first contract. i really believe that.)
also! last but def not least, we've gotta figure something out with trey. he is under contract one more year, but he's not happy and making our star players unhappy is actually NOT a good strategy, shockingly enough!
#my thoughts on how to fix the team lol#and i am such an expert :)#we'll see what actually happens of course#but god like. even with this awful season. with this awful defense. we were THIS close#changes need to be made#but if we can just win a few more games at the beginning of the year#we'll be where we need to be#(read that if we had just won that chargers game....if that facemask hadn't been missed...we'd be in!!)#(plus all the other super close losses based on freakish bad luck)#OH also jermaine needs to figure his shit out#he's on his last chance if he even has one at all

begging cosplayers to look at fursuit tutorials because like. why are you reinventing shit. why are you taking the hard way around. furries have had moving parts & quadsuits & furring & buckethead & body part tutorials for years. "how do i make moving cat ears" furries can tell you. if you let them. take my hand
#''but furries are cringe!!'' you're cringe for making fun of a predominantly queer & ND community#that has revolutionized cosplay btw & put those techniques online for free for you to try out#next time you're like ''aw man i gotta make antlers from scratch'' or ''how do i make a moving tail'' furries can help you with that#it's like needing to build a bookshelf & instead of asking a guy who already knows you wing it because ''carpenters are cringe''#my guy you are dressing up as a big cat. that's the subgenre of cosplay known as fursuiting. listen to furries. they are experts#also if you need brain surgery or help with coding or anything really furries can help with that too#they have the range

its always annoying when you reblog something that on its own is normal and understandable, but then someone reblogs it from you and you know they're doing so for reasons which you directly oppose and that are a misinterpretation of the sentiment behind (why you reblogged) the post
#o.#I wish I could complain about the insertion of AI into everything without it seeming like I agree with the ''omg its killing all the water''#people#I need to append a disclaimer that explains how machine learning works after every AI post I reblog/make#both sides in the 'debate' abt AI drive me absolutely insane. none of you know how it works#and I don't know either!!! my dad has told me about how the stuff he uses at his job works and I've watched some videos and read a little on#it but I am NOT an expert or even a computer scientist or anything#so I don't wanna be the one to be like hey this is how it actually works (at least not without a bajillion disclaimers) & here's why yall#are all wrong#bc the whole thing I'm mad about is uninformed people making a moral panic about how awful AI is#I don't want to accidentally insert more misinformation bc I think I understand more than I do#anyway.

because i just got reminded— i will unfortunately say this now— i am Not that hyped about thund.erbolts …
NOW HOLD UR TOMATOES— while i’m very wary about it— i do Really like the concept of it (except for valentina being basically their manager… don’t trust her and i imagine the group being more Rogue anyway)
SO… i’m going to add to my canon divergence and probably put thund.erbolts either under an AU or just have it happen before TFATWS events… not sure how that’ll work yet but i’ll figure it out LMAO
#✮ || out of cryo.#and disclaimer; i don’t hate thu.nderbolts i think the marketing is hilarious and fun i just don’t like how they’re fitting it story wise#( i just think the TFATWS arc for bucky was So perfect and i Hate they’re trying to put him back into the WS box.#i Refuse to put him through more shit— his 70 years of literal torture is enough along with the years he’s spent on the run#that and CW…. being triggered again— having to fight in wars again as if he’s not struggling with himself 24/7#i just think the timing of thunderbolts is Weird imo— i know they set up walker at the end valentina’s guidance but i did Not expect it to#go this route— im not an Expert on the comics so that’s probably just me not knowing enough but Yeah#i love love love the idea of these characters becoming their own ‘avengers’ for like a one time villain i just don’t like what they’re#doing to my mans…….. i have Fear#my canon divergence has buck Not be a congressman bc wtf was That— no sir#this is also coming from someone who won’t pay money to watch the new cap— i was So Hyped for it until didney decided to make such—#awful decisions STILL even after they practically rebranded and apparently rewrote shit!!!#sam i Adore as cap i just wish his first standalone in marvel wasn’t in the middle of this mess…#anyhow…. i gots some work to do timeline wise…… ill make a verse for thund.erbolts things but it wont be canonical setting#if that makes sense weeps— ill think on it but Yeah that’s my ramble for today#end rant SFHXZFVVX )

Ok, maybe this is a really stupid question, but why the hell did Tuunbaq consume souls? What does it do with them? Digest them? Tasty snack nomnomnom? Why not just kill those pesky sailors? I have an understanding of what Tuunbaq represents, but why the soul sucking? Sorry, I still have whiplash from that show…
Anyway, thank you for enlightening me in advance! <3
Not a stupid question at all!
I'm going to give an answer based more on personal knowledge and opinion rather than cold hard fact - apologies in advance if that's not what you're looking for. Rest assured though that this is something I intend to chase up further sources on and think/write a great deal more about in future. :)
For all you couldn't strictly define it as cannibalism, when I think of the Tuunbaq and its consumption of souls, I think of what I know about various cultures throughout the world that have practiced cannibalism historically, and I think about the reasons why they did so.
Often, it was a reverential and sacred practice, enacted in a very focused and particular way. In many cases, specific body parts were eaten with the intention that one would gain characteristics associated with the deceased - eating a man's heart to gain his courage, eating a person's eyes to gain insight or their brain to absorb in some way their wisdom.
I think that's part of why Tuunbaq eats souls. The men are invaders within the landscape who are alien in every conceivable way so it make sense to me that Tuunbaq could gain knowledge of/insight into/power over them by absorbing their souls - the very essence of who they truly are.
But I also see Tuunbaq's consumption of souls as something potentially more akin to exocannibalism - eating one's enemies as an open expression of hostility, the ultimate indignity, the most extreme act of domination. And make no mistake, Franklin's men are enemies.
They've invaded and desecrated the land, killed Silna's father, caused Tuunbaq to go "off" in the first place. It makes sense to me that an enemy of that magnitude would warrant the extra horror and indignity of their soul being consumed as well as their body.
#Asks#The Terror#The Terror AMC#Tuunbaq#These are just general preliminary thoughts really#I am no expert!#I hope they make at least some sort of sense for now#And don't sound like I'm espousing that awful 'native deity is just a spooky savage inherently evil monster' type trope#Because that's absolutely not what I'm trying to get at at all#The Expedition's invasion of its territory and slaughter of its shaman made Tuunbaq what it was#Any savagery it enacted was clear and simple retribution#The Netsilik mourned Tuunbaq when it was gone - wept for it#I don't think one would do so for a being that was inherently savage or evil#All that said - I know the book has very different thoughts on this than the show/showrunners do#So watch this space!#I have every intention of looking further into this - book/show/scripts/Q&As etc. - and coming back with a more fact-based answer

Pride Month is technically over, but some reminders that suit all year 'round:
It's no one's business how you identify unless you choose to share it. If they don't like it, that is very much not your problem. They don't know what it's like inside your head, your heart, your skin. Only you are party to those answers.
Nobody gets to gatekeep an identity from you.
No one gets to tell you you're not gay enough.
No one gets to tell you what your gender is except you.
Someone else not using the same words as you, or using the same words in different ways than you do, has absolutely no bearing on your identity.
Your experience is your own. Period.
Identity can fluctuate over time. How you identify today doesn't have to be how you identified last week doesn't have to be how you will identify in ten years. It doesn't make you a fake. It just means you're in tune with yourself, and you're trying to make sense of things the best you can.
Someone else's journey can make you uncomfortable without being bad or wrong or evil. Discomfort with someone's experience does not grant the right to tell them who they are. Being a person is nuanced as fuck, and it's hard enough as it is.
There is no right or wrong way to be gay, to be trans, to be gender nonconforming, etc etc etc. There are no rules except "be happy, don't hurt others".
Treat your body like you own it. Live your life however you feel is safest, warmest, kindest. You get one shot on this roller coaster; you can wear as many or as few costumes as you like along the way and still be you.
The words are here to help. They are not here to be bars of a cage or a cudgel with which to beat someone else. If it's not helping, you don't have to use it. If you're weaponizing it, consider what you think that'll solve.
There are always going to be bigots coming for us. There are always going to be people who willfully misunderstand, who choose violence and hatred over an open mind. Don't give them more power than they already have. They have enough in their arsenal already.
Your experience is your own. Your identity is your own. Anyone making your identity their problem? Has absolutely nothing to do with you.
Happy fuckin' Pride.
#queer stuff#lgbtq#been seeing an awful lot of mob mentality of late regarding other people's journeys and it always rankles#i think we forget that not everyone comes from the same place of knowledge. not everyone has lived the same experience.#you don't have to dig the way someone else is presenting. they don't have to dig the way you walk the world either. that's fine.#who we are is our business. we bring it to show-and-tell but we're not handing it to anyone else.#you can ask for input. you can give the same in return. but the colors you wear? those are yours. that is your call. no one else's.#you are an expert in exactly one person in this world#for everyone else the best you can be is kind

saw you in the notes of the substitute post.
I'm assuming you are a teacher and not like the best substitute in existence or something. I'm still young enough to remember high school and middle school vividly. And while you are right about the rapport, I regret to inform you that those classes are always the worst for substitutes because the kids think they can act the same way with the sub as they do with you.
If there's a sub in the boring class, at worst you are just as bored. Everyone's already calm and will be helpful if needed. If there's a sub in the fun class, the kids will be disappointed and some of them will take it out on the sub, even if it's not bad enough to write down. And if you are helpful you're betraying your classmates :/
nope, not a teacher! just a substitute. I bounce around to a bunch of different rooms and cover grades 6-12.
this is gonna be a little bit long-winded so sorry in advance
honestly, i've worked really, really hard to figure out the best way to work with middle and high school kids, and it's paid off a lot. the things I get the most feedback about from the students are:
they like that I explain my reasoning to them about my decisions. If they want to do something I can't let them do for whatever reason, I tell them, not just say no--same goes for when i do let them do something I wouldn't usually. I'll explain myself.
I admit if I was wrong or if I change my mind about something, i'll answer any questions about why and go through it with them
i try to be as fair to all the students as possible, and I generally give them the benefit of the doubt (unless I've been given specific instructions, but even then, sometimes I'll prioritize my own knowledge about a particular kid's behavior over the teacher's, since I know certain kids will act differently with me there). i use a LOT of praise. saying 'thanks' for like everything
on the other hand, I hold them to the expectations that I know the regular teachers hold them to. so I don't just let the louder ones run amok, which gets on the nerves of the rest of the students
I offer to help with their homework and make clear what I know and what I don't (middle schoolers especially like this)
for high schoolers, when they need a little less direction, they appreciate that I can recognize when the class can run itself, especially for senior or AP classes, etc. I just bring a book and enjoy my day.
i'm clear about what feedback i'll be giving back to the original teacher, including behavioral reports, but also tech issues, homework issues, etc.
it's certainly harder with a very large school where it's difficult for the kids to get to know you and your mannerisms etc, but ultimately i think what they need out of me is pretty simple. they want to know what's going on, they want me to be a competent leader of the classroom and not a doormat, and they want me to put in effort to understand them & their needs.
the thing is that you're right and some kids DEFINITELY do take it out on the subs. that comes with the job, unfortunately, and is a part of the learning curve to handle those kids. as long as you project enough confidence, it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but sometimes when push comes to shove, that's what sending students to the office is for, as much as I avoid it. so I can't blame people for preferring younger kids, but the notes on the post make it seem like teenagers are horrific, but i promise they're generally not that bad!
#anon#ask#lmk if you want more explanation anon#or want to chat more about it! i get where the opinion comes from that teenagers are awful to sub for#i haven't talked much about my job but i have a lot of thoughts!#i'm certainly no expert in classroom management yet but I know (thanks to feedback from other staff) that i'm getting there!#val comes out of hiding#it takes constant reflection too on my part. it is for sure a bit challenging.#but the kids can see that I take my role seriously and that earns me a bit of respect at least#or if anyone else sees this too and wants to chat about the logistics & ethics of sub teaching. feel free my inbox is open :)#substitute teacher#is that a section of tumblr. sublr or smthn
