everything I learned about Malevolent from seeing it on my dash:
Arthur Lester is a normal guy. One might call him "babygirl". He gets injured like every ten minutes. He's blind
John is a fragment of a bigger eldritch horror called the King in Yellow, except he's got, like, feral cat energy. He shares Arthur's body and sees through his eyes (idk if he's the one who stole Arthur's sight) and has to describe everything. This is a really clever way of using the audio medium btw
They weren't supposed to be gay, it kinda just happened. Turns out when you share a body you learn to care about each other. John does not want to go back to the big eldritch horror
There's another guy named Kayne who is always, without exception, covered in blood
that's all I know

Okay! Obviously, I love Wolf 359. The available scripts for Wolf 359 are recording scripts, meaning they're inaccurate in a ton of places when it comes to finalized or improvised dialogue, and don't function well as transcripts (especially since the scripts for the live show and some of the mini episodes were never made available.) That said, I think everyone should read the scripts; the sheer amount of physical description that you can feel in the show, even if you can't see it... I guarantee it will enhance your listening experience. Most visual show to ever be an audio drama. So, in pursuit of both of these goals at once, I went over every word in the scripts, and wrote up new scripts for the unavailable ones. Some of the sound effects described - especially in early episodes - might not line up exactly, because I didn't want to mess with the non-dialogue portion of the show, but I hope this strikes a good balance and can be a useful resource.

ExtraEmily: Hey! Hey! Oh my god, Tubbo! Tubbo! Nice- Tubbo, great to have you here! How are you feeling today?
Tubbo: Good good good, back for round three. Can't wait to see the show, very excited, very excited to see everyone again. Aw, it's gonna be wonderful.
ExtraEmily: That's awesome! How do you think this year's gonna compete next- compared to the last two years since it's- you've been to all three
Tubbo: Well, I feel like we're gonna have a- in terms of like, my nomination, I'm feeling a bit of a repeat. I feel like- I feel like that's ok though! I'm down to go 3 and 0, I think that's alright, but I'm just here to meet everyone, say hi to everyone again, here for the vibes.
ExtraEmily: Well, I love the vibe, Tubbo! You're great, got to keep the energy up! Is there anyone you're excited to see today, since you do live far away, right?
Tubbo: Oh god, well I'm excited to hang out with the QSMP lot more, we be- we rarely get to hang out like, often, so it's always like very very nice to see everyone.
ExtraEmily: Oh, that's great! Do you have any favorite people in the QSMP? Ooh, drama.
Tubbo: Favorite people- you can't ask me to pick a favorite one of my friends! That's crazy! That's like- well, which one of your friends is your favorite? Like- no, no, please go on!

ExtraEmily: Uhh, I like Bob! And Bob, ok, you don't have to answer that. But we love QSMP! That's so awesome. How much Minecraft would you say you've played in the past year in terms of hours?
Tubbo: I think I got my thing back and it was like 3000 hours? I think it was like, yeah, I think it recorded 1200 hours, but I have a lot of other hours on another account.
ExtraEmily: Oh my god, have you ever thought of speed running it?
Tubbo: Oh god no, oh god, no way! No, the people who speedrun are psychopaths.
ExtraEmily: You think so? A little crazy? Do you have any tips for someone that wants to try all Minecraft, aka me? I've never even beat the Ender Dragon.
Tubbo: Oh god, I'm so bad at it. I'm not even kidding, I could not consider myself good at this game.
ExtraEmily: Well, that's awesome! But Tubbo, last question: what'd you eat for your breakfast today?
Tubbo: Oh god, I didn't have breakfast today. I just woke up and I'm here.
ExtraEmily: Good morning, Tubbo, and thank you for the interview! Let's hand it off to the next interviewer. Byeeee!!!

because i've been in been in the biology industry for so long that i can no longer judge what's common knowledge and what's actually very niche
how aware are most people that there's a protein called Sonic hedgehog protein, coded for by the SHH gene?
and that it is one of the core proteins responsible for development in all animals?
i can say 'Sonic hedgehog causes cancer' and i'm not even shitposting. it's scientific fact.

Callum and Rayla Scene #2 (spoilers!):
[Callum bursts into Rayla's room, frantic]
Callum: Rayla!
[Rayla, who has her hair in a loose ponytail, wakes up, grabs two pillows in her hands as if they were weapons]
Rayla: Who's there? Don't come any closer!
Callum: It's me, it's me!
Rayla: Callum?! Are you crazy? You're lucky I didn't...[looks at her pillows]
Callum: [laughs] Death by pillows wouldn't be the worst way to go... (sits on her bed) Rayla, it happened. Aaravos took me over, I had the pearl in my hands.
Rayla: Callum, it's late. You were dreaming. You know if I actually thought you were in danger-
Callum:*says something I can't remember*
Rayla: Okay, okay, I believe you. But what can we do?
Callum:...I have an idea!
(a beat)
Rayla: Great. And that idea is-
[Callum takes Rayla's blanket and rushes off]
Stella chitters]
Rayla: I know...he took our blanky! [She flops back onto bed]
The end.

I'm a big fan of the way that Gabriel Urbina often includes details within the Wolf 359 scripts that can't be directly translated into audio, for example: the "tears silently streaming down [Minkowski's] face" in Ep31 Securité; Eiffel being "wrapped up in a blanket" when telling Lovelace about his traumatic experience of feeling like he was turning into Minkowski in Ep32 Controlled Demolition; the way "Hera and Eiffel stand together, his arm around her shoulder" when confronting Pryce in the finale; the idea that Eiffel "salutes" Minkowski after his speech to her before the memory wipe... These details make reading the scripts an even more rewarding experience.
But I do think there's an interesting question here about to what extent these details are canon. After all, when changes have been made in the dialogue between the script and the final recording, I only consider the dialogue that actually ended up in the episode to be canon, although the version in the script might still provide interesting insights. But with details in the scripts that are inherently not audible - and therefore never intended to be literally included in the episode itself - should we consider them to be canon, or bonus content, or Word of God, or simply a tool used in the recording process?
I know that it is possible to have an entirely full experience of the show without ever reading a single bit of the scripts. The scripts are placed in the 'Extras' area of the show website.
Obviously the primary purpose of the non-auditory script details is to inform the actors in their performances, and perhaps provide some considerations for sound design. When I read the scripts, I can often feel how the non-auditory script directions are reflected in the feel of the voice acting.
But once I've noticed these script directions, I also can't help having them feed into my experience of the scene when listening, in a way that enriches the experience beyond purely the audio, and informs my understanding of these moments. The script directions tell us more about what the writer was envisioning for a scene.
I love sharing the script directions that feel significant to me, and when I do so, I feel like I'm sharing something more significant than a behind-the-scenes tidbit. I feel like I'm sharing further knowledge of what happened in that scene. The script directions feel like a true part of the show to me, more so than the comments the writers and actors have made in Q&As. To me, these non-auditory bits of the scripts feel like canon, but a slightly lesser form of canon than the episodes themselves. But I don't know if I can fully justify this view. I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts.

it is incredibly easy to tell when people can not write simon blackquill because his speech — at least for his TwIsTeD sAmUrAi persona — is so distinct. it’s difficult for me to explain in words, but if you look at the game transcripts for any period of time you should be able to get a sense for it and it is so aggravating to see fanworks where he isn’t yapping like some victorian era chap with a disposition for the macabre. a heinous fiend pried from the pages of penny dreadful.
“from the outset, i had no intention of paying heed to any of your babble”? bars. he calls apollo a “whelp.” impeccable. “the defendant sought to sow this confusion”? brilliant. “nothing but claptrap and balderdash if you ask me”? iconic. read some 18th century literature or ask the spirit of jane austen for her aid before putting the name of simon blackquill in your mouth my good chap

[A sad violin song plays over an image of a sad hamster]
Pac: This doesn't have anything to do with me – I wear a blue sweatshirt, you're crazy, this mouse doesn't even have a sweatshirt, this hamster! [Reading chat] Am I a depressed hamster?
Tumblr media
[ Transcript continued ↓ ]*
Pac: Actually– that's fine! I embrace that idea – of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy? [He hits his desk, then starts counting off people on his fingers] Fit is gone, Richarlyson is gone, Ramon is gone, Bagi and Empanada who were always there when we were there are also gone, I haven't seen them! It's just me and Tubbo, and sometimes Philza shows up.
Pac: I lost Chume Labs, I lost the Favela, I lost Murder Mystery, I lost Ilha Chume Labs, it's crazy! Look at how much I've lost, and I've gained nothing! Of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy?! How am I supposed to be happy?!
Pac: [Reading chat] "You have us Pac," that's true, thank you. No, that's true, sorry.
* NOTE: Please note that this is an incomplete transcript, as I was primarily relying on Aypierre's translation mod at the time and if I am not confident of the translation, I do not include it. As always, please feel free to add on translations or message me corrections.
#Pactw#QSMP#Pac#March 18 2024#As much as I love keeping people updated about Pac / the other Portuguese-speaking creators#I think I might not make as many transcribed posts for their clips anymore#I just don't think I'm qualified enough to be transcribing things for a language I don't know#like yeah we have the Qlobal Translator and Aypierre's translators to rely on#And I'm always upfront when I'm not 100% sure about a translation#but I've been thinking about it a lot and it kinda makes me feel a bit icky. Idk.#I might be overthinking this but I just I don't want to spread around translations I'm not super confident about#esp. since I know a lot of people cite my clips in analysis posts or link them to other people as resources#and 90% of the time I'm like ''Hell yeah I love seeing people getting a lot of use out of the archive''#but sometimes I get a bit anxious like ''Did I do a good enough job translating this''#''Am I ruining someone's entire perception of a conversation or character because I left one word out or mistranslated something?''#And like I said that's normally not a HUGE concern since if I'm not certain about a translation I just won't post a clip. but you know#idk it might just be the anxiety talking but I really really don't want to spread bad info#Happy to hear other folks' perspective#I'm really grateful for people like Bell and Pix and others who translate clips and I always try to reblog those#but we don't have a ton of people posting clips & translating things on Tumblr since we're so English-centric#which is part of the reason WHY I like sharing clips of the non-English-speaking CCs#but at the same time I want to do an accurate job representing what they're saying#Maybe I'll just start posting things and give a TLDR context of what they're talking about but not a transcript#that way native-speakers can hop in and add translations if that's something they're comfortable doing#and if not then well. at least I'm not sharing something that isn't super accurate#idk I'm just thinking out loud a bit in the tags#But I'm open to hearing other people's thoughts on the matter#Anyways giant rant aside. q!Pac is NOT doing ok rn
