Simon Petrikov and Stanford Pines Comparison
(nerdy/proper/awkward) studiers of the occult
unwittingly led themselves to being separated from reality by their own research
have interdimensional entities of chaos as exes (geometric/strange # of eyes)
earned their doctorates and used their grant money to fund their research, then wrote books about their discoveries
Fiddleford McGucket is a close match too: like Simon, his repeated usage of a magical item on his head led to him losing his mind/memory and turning into a white-bearded “local kook”, his descent into madness documented in his long-lost video diaries

Betty Grof and Fiddleford McGucket Comparison
both geniuses in their own right, but sacrifice their own professional ambitions in order to support another genius who they’ve grown close to and admire. both relationships have an unbalanced power dynamic: Betty and Fiddleford idolize their partners whom are oblivious to it and don’t reciprocate the same level of dedication. Betty and Fiddleford become victims to the effects of Simon and Ford’s obsessions, and while the latter do too, the former do not recover in the end like they do
silly drawing
