Odd why that person thinks that Chaol should've listened to Aelin just because of her power and status. Clearly Aelin does not think that, and if I remember correctly she never even indicated it. Aelin is my favorite character but it's dumb to hate Chaol for calling her a "monster". He clearly had reasons to believe that, considering how he was also raised and taught about let's say Fae, on top of that she was an assassin. Man literally had reasons to hate her in that moment. Which he later realized is wrong, and he respects Aelin, deeply, by the end of the series.

Aedion tbh is the most character I'm confused about people not liking. I like Aedion as a book character, but very honestly Aedion would not be fun to be around in person. On top of that what he did and how he treated Lysandra. Like how tf do you not hate him because of that.

I am a firm believer that the reason so many people hate Chaol is because he is the most realistic character. And also they probably didn't read TOD.

Anyways, my issue here is people don't appreciate Yrene enough ???? Stan Yrene mfs, freaking angel I swear. I would do everything for her. If anything my problem with Chaol is that I'm jealous of him getting to be with Yrene and freaking marry her and have kids with her.

I honestly don’t know why did people forgive Aedion so easily, they swept everything under the carpet 😬 I loved Lysaedion so much on EoS and don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness or an opportunity to change, but after all that happened, idk… I think the fandom gave Chaol so much hate for something smaller.

Yrene is a goddess, I love her with my entire heart, she isn’t appreciated enough even when she played a major role in KoA. Maybe it was because her character was developed at the ending of the series that readers felt it was too rushed and that she shouldn’t have had such an important mission in the end. Idk but I love her so much, she’s so relatable and I’m also jealous of Chaol hahah 🤣. I wouldn’t stop blushing around her

3k words (officially my longest fic, yay!)

Every thought in Aelin's mind was blank. She trudged through her apartment that she shared with Nehemia, absentmindedly kicking off her heels that Rowan purchased for her months ago. Then the light jacket she wore joined the shoes, the fabric was perfectly soft and perfect for the autumn chill.

It was yet another piece of item that Rowan purchased for her. A lot of the things she had know were thanks to Rowan, either from his own wallet or from the biweekly allowance he sent her—a generous allowance that was a thousand times better than her weekly paycheck from the bookstore she'd been working at since she turned twenty-two; her business degree had turned out to be useless and so she turned to the bookstore that had been her stable job for three years.

Aelin barely touched her weekly wage now, it was practically buried underneath the money the Rowan gave her.

Because Rowan Whitethorn, thirty-five and a successful CEO who was well known, was her sugar daddy. Had been now for fourteen months. But he was more than that, more than just a man that paid her to spend time with him. He respected her, was loyal to her, listened to her and responded with actual sentences instead of a word or two like other men she had dated. He was charming, didn't treat her like she was nothing but arm candy, and she knew him so well, as he knew her, and each fortnight she sometimes forgot their whole arrangement, but she was sharply reminded when she received the notification from her bank that the two and a half thousand dollars that Rowan sent her was now in her savings account.

When she agreed to their arrangement after several get-to-know you dates, Rowan had wanted to give her three and a half grand every week, and gods Aelin had been tempted because she had never had so much money in her life, but told him that it was far too much and negotiated.

Two and a half thousand was the lowest that Rowan was willing to go, and even though Aelin only knew him for two weeks at that point, she could tell that he would not budge, so she agreed to the amount.

The first time that money had landed in her account, Aelin had thought that maybe she had imagined the whole thing, but the money was a sharp reminder of what she know was—a sugar baby. Those words still didn't feel like they applied to her.

And he still spent money on her when they spent time together. Just last week he gifted her with diamond earrings in the shapes of roses with a necklace to match. She wore them tonight, not because he bought them for her but because she genuinely loved the pieces.

Needing something sweet—despite the fact she had only finished her chocolate hazelnut gelato twenty minutes ago—she dug through her fridge and found the brownies that Nehemia had baked the other day. She told herself that she would leave some for her long-time friend, but Aelin really doubted that would happen.

Aelin relished in the cold air of the fridge as she found the new can of whipped cream on the top shelf. The fridge was one of the first things she purchased with the money she was now being gifted with (and after that came a new washer and dryer, a dish-washing machine and television. Almost everything in her apartment was brand new now, the food were actual brands instead of the generic, tasteless shit. She had bras that fit her properly and were so damned comfortable that she forgot she was wearing them half the time).

The old fridge was a cheap hunk of junk that she and Nehemia purchased off Facebook marketplace for a hundred dollars, it barely kept things cold, but with expensive rent and bills and general life things, Nehemia and her couldn't afford anything better.

Which was how she ended up in this situation. Picking up more shifts barely gave them anything extra, because the economy right now in Terrasen was shit. Nehemia had made a joke about needing sugar daddies, and Aelin, knowing that Nehemia could never really do such a thing, had decided that maybe it was a good idea.

Nehemia had told Aelin that she was insane for pursuing such a thing, and that she had only been joking, but Aelin was not and that she could handle herself if things went wrong.

Nehemia had told her not to do anything, but Aelin was determined and started her search. It had taken a while to find a website that was genuine and didn't make her feel like she had to scrub her eyes out with bleach.

She created her page in private, because she not only was Nehemia against the idea, but so was Elide and Lysandra—she didn't dare tell Aedion what she was doing. Her cousin could be an overprotective pain in her ass at times, and Aelin was very well aware that if Aedion caught wind of what she was doing, he would have locked her up in her room without any type of device so she couldn't go forward with her plan.

She appreciated their concern, she did, but she was a consenting, tax-paying adult, and if she wanted to use her time to get paid spending time with a rich man, then Aelin was allowed to do exactly that.

It wasn't prostitution, she had looked it up, because it was the sugar babies that had the power and so that was how it went with her and Rowan.

Aelin didn't even have sex with Rowan until it was the sixth month anniversary of her and Rowan's...relationship (and gods, it was the best sex Aelin ever had. Rowan was a generous and completely unselfish lover).

He was the first one she came across on the site and almost drooled down herself when she saw his picture. Silver hair, pine-green eyes, a beautiful tattoo down the length of his left arm and tanned skin, he was stupidly attractive and only ten years old than her.

Aelin messaged him first only after being on the site for ten minutes, deciding that surely he was the best one and that she needn't bother to look at any other candidates.

They hit it off straight away, and after deciding on a restaurant to meet at, Aelin had informed Nehemia of the matter, which she was promptly met with question after question: why can't a thirty-four year old man find someone his own age? Is he one of those men that can't date a woman five minutes older than him because of some stupid made up reason? How do you know for certain that it's him in the picture? What if he's cat-fishing you? What if he's a freak, or a killer? What if he's just pretending to be rich to kidnap you? What if, what if, what if?

And so after a heated discussion, Nehemia had come along on her date-that-wasn't-really-a-date and sat a few tables away from her and Rowan, watching them—especially him—the entire time like a hawk.

Aelin had completely forgotten that her friend was there, so enraptured by Rowan and what he did and how he saw life.

It had been fourteen months of seeing Rowan and genuinely enjoying spending time with him and weeks ago, she realised that she wanted it to be something more. That she had come to care for him, not because of the money, but purely because it was Rowan and he made her feel seen and he wasn't afraid of her, because she had once been told by an ex that she could be too much and that he couldn't handle all her baggage.

Aelin wanted a life with him.

So Aelin told Rowan she loved him when he dropped her off tonight after their dinner and a movie date, telling him how she felt, and he had said thank you. He gave her a chaste kiss on the cheek and went home, leaving behind the pine-and-snow scent of him.

Aelin really wanted to find a hole to crawl into and die.

She was scarfing down her third brownie when Nehemia's bedroom door opened, her friend clad in an old matching pj set, her slippers shuffling across the tile.

“What happened? Are you okay?” her friend asked upon seeing Aelin's guttered look. Her dark brows furrowed. “Did that bastard hurt you? If he did, I'll—”

“He didn't do anything,” Aelin interrupted her friend. Taking the food, Aelin planted herself on the teal blue velvet sofa Rowan gave her for Yulemas last year, ignoring the scent of not just him, but of them both from when he came over after work just the other day with pizza and a DVD that she insisted that she watched because it was too good not to, when they forgot all about the movie as Rowan buried himself inside her, leaving hickeys all over her neck that she had to cover up with thick concealer.

Nehemia joined her on the couch, her friend momentarily forgetting for now that she had walked in on her and Rowan just moments after they finished, muttering under her breath in Eyllwe as she glared at them defiling the couch, and gave her a look that Aelin knew that Nehemia would listen to every word that came out from her.

And when Aelin was done recounting the story, all Nehemia could come up with was, “Oh.”

“Yes, 'oh,'. I've probably fucked up the whole thing. So don't be surprised if I call you on your lunch break tomorrow telling you he's broken things off.”

“Aelin, I don't think he will. I know that I'm not the biggest fan of your...situation—”

“I'm aware,” Aelin said, cutting her friend off. “You still won't let me buy you a new mattress, even though yours is hard as a brick and lumpy as hell. I've told you that you can pay me—”

“Aelin,” Nehemia said, “we're not talking about mattresses right now. As I was saying, I doubt he'll break things off because I've seen the way he looks at you. I still think he's too old for you, but he cares for you. You probably just caught him by surprise.”

“How does he look at me?” Aelin was observant, but sometimes when she was with Rowan, all her observation skills went out the window.

“Like he loves you,” Nehemia said, no hint of doubt in her voice.

Aelin sighed, her feelings slowly starting to crush her. “I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.”

Sighing once more, Aelin put the food back in the fridge, showered and went to bed, forgoing her usual night texting ritual with Rowan.

She really wasn't looking forward to tomorrow.

Rowan couldn't concentrate, which wasn't a good thing, since his job dealt with having to concentrate all the time. But no matter what mind-focusing techniques he did, he couldn't stop thinking about Aelin.

Couldn't stop thinking about how she said she was in love with him. How her beautiful eyes had been sparkling when she said those words to him. And how the light in them dimmed when he said thank you and kissed her on the cheek, telling her that he would talk to her later. But he hadn't texted her, nor did she.

I love you, Rowan. I'm in love with you.

Thank you. He really couldn't believe that was what he said. Felt like an utter fool and a bastard as he realised he probably crushed her heart. Aelin didn't like being vulnerable, and she had been when she said those words and he had gone and fucked it all up.

Rowan loved Aelin, he did, but he truly wasn't prepared for those words. He loved how on the weekends they would be up at one am, baking chocolate goodies, dancing in the quiet kitchen, humming quietly to Aelin's classical music playlist, with her wearing not the nightgowns that he loved, but one of his old hoodies.

He didn't think that he would get along with her so well once they met, thinking that their online interactions were nothing but a fluke. He was moments away from deleting the profile because he didn't actually create it, but Fenrys had, his friend grumbling that he needed a girlfriend, with Rowan arguing that creating a profile on a sugar daddy site was not dating but probably the opposite, when Aelin messaged him.

His life-long friend didn't listen, much to Rowan's annoyance—but he didn't grab his phone out of his friends hand; Rowan blamed it on the several whiskys he had downed by that point.

Aelin bewitched him on that first meet up. She was intelligent as hell and funny, and creative and beautiful. He was aware of why she was on the date with him, but he didn't care, just as long as he got to see her again.

Fourteen months later and Rowan was still bewitched. He wanted to be with her on a permanent basis, but wasn't completely sure how to take that step.

Clearly, Aelin had taken that step for them, and Rowan was the worlds biggest moron.

Groaning, Rowan turned away from his computer and looked at the skyline, ignoring the buildings to instead watch the puffy clouds drift by.

Aelin loved watching the clouds, loved stargazing, loved questioning about the universe and what the skies held.

Rowan didn't want to lose her, didn't want her to think that he was about to break up with her over this. He had to see her, so he grabbed his keys and wallet, told his secretary to hold his calls for the rest of the day, and went to visit Aelin.

She wasn't really allowed up here, but she wanted some fresh air and to feel the sun against her skin as she sat down and dug into her lunch—fast food, unfortunately for her, because she was so frazzled from last night that she completely forgot about making a pack lunch.

Rowan hadn't called her, or texted her. Not even an email had been sent her way.

Aelin hated that she felt so damned mopey. She was an independent woman, but gods, even a good morning text would have been fine.

She finished her lunch, popping several mints into her mouth to get rid of the onion taste, when the roof door crashed open and a familiar hulking figure came into view.

He must have spoken to Elide to find her here.

Aelin's brow furrowed. “Rowan, what are you doing here?” Oh gods, surely he wasn't going to break up with her, she still had hours to go; there'd be no way she could work if she had tears in her eyes.

Taking her hands in his, Aelin stood up. She steeled herself against whatever he was going to say.

“I love you, Aelin. I'm in love with you, too,” Rowan said, his eyes soft and full of genuine love. Aelin's heart shot up into her throat. “I want a life with you. I want us to buy a home, one that has warmth and character, and a big garden. I want a dog. And kids too, if you want, I know that you've never mentioned it, but if you don't want any then that is completely fine. I want to support you in whatever endeavors you want to take, and if you ever want to go back to university, then I'll support you, or if you want to find a way to use your business degree, I'll help you with that, too. Whatever you want Aelin, I'll give it to you, as long as you're by my side, I'll be happy.”

Aelin was silent for so long that Rowan thought that maybe he shocked her into silence. But eventually, she smiled, one that was dazzling in its beauty that it took his breath away.

“You love me?”

“I do, Aelin, I love you.”

She kissed his cheek. “Thank you.”

Rowan groaned at the amusement in her tone, in her eyes. “You're never going to let me live that down, are you?”

She smirked. “Definitely not. It'll be a nice story to tell our children...one day. For now, I think we should contend with being proper significant others.”

Rowan nodded, smiling. “I like the sound of that.”

“Good, because I need to get back to work, since I'm no longer accepting your allowances. I won't deny the use of your credit card, but other than that, you are no longer my sugar daddy.”

It was Rowan's turned to smirk, and it was the one that made her core clench. “How about I be 'daddy' instead?”

Aelin snorted, even as she clenched around nothing again. Smacking his arm lightly, Aelin kissed him. “Only if you behave,” she said against his lips, “and now I really need to go back to work.”

Rowan walked her back, their fingers laced together, and as she turned to say goodbye, Aelin said, “I'll see you later, daddy.”

Rowan groaned, and it took everything in him not to take her hand and into his car to have his wicked way with her.

By the time he thought of a response, Aelin was already back to work, helping a customer with an impressive stack of books in her arms.

But she knew he was still there, because the way she swayed her hips to the counter was all for him, and when she saw him watching her, Aelin winked, making Rowan's heart flutter in his chest.

He really did love her. And he would live with her teasing him for the rest of his life, just as long as she was with him.

The cabin headcanons

Cassian takes Nesta to the cabin after their mating bond ceremony and then happens chapter 55 but Nesta adapted. There’s no soup but a biscuit.

When Nyx is a little older he starts participating in the snowball fight. Rhys, Cassian and Az let him win.

In one of her visits, Feyre paints her sisters and Nyx’s eyes beside the IC ones, because they are now part of the Court of Dreams (this one made me cry a little honestly)

Whenever one of the IC’s couples wants to take a break they go to the cabin. Sometimes Az goes too to play chaperone. Spoiler: it doesn’t work (especially NOT with Nessian) (this one made me laugh)

Nesta likes the cabin’s vibes to read, so she goes often. Sometimes Cassian joins her but he bores to death so he wouldn’t let her read (if you get what i mean)

I can imagine the IC visiting it, long nights bonding in front of a fire and playing board games. Rhys, Nesta and Azriel are so competitive that stay awake til one of them wins. (actually Rhys and Azriel competitive spirit over board games is canon) (i just imagine Nesta playing the courtier to win) (then she loses and is cranky for a day). Meanwhile, Mor and Cassian drink themselves silly, and Feyre and Elain play with Nyx. Amren just purrs sitting in Varian’s lap. (Amren as the house cat)

The girls decide to do their own snowball fight honestly i don’t know why this is not canon yet. One year they decide to do girls vs. boys. The girls win and the boys don’t want to play against them again.

Nyx and his cousins learning to fly in a summer vacation there. (yeah because nessian’s children are happening in the future and they are in some of my headcanons sorry)

Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie go there sometimes (not so often because they prefer staying with the House please never forget they are all friends) and go hiking.

When Nyx and Nessian’s children are older and misbehave their parents send them to the cabin. Then whoever of them didn’t got to be grounded slips alcohol to the ones inside. (Actually i can see them doing this??? Rhys and Mor did the same. Also I can see Nyx and his cousins having a relationship similar to Rhys and Mor’s and Aelin and Aedion’s)

Inner Circle couples and the sauna. Not gonna say anything else, but just know it’s hella weird there’re no scenes in there...

The House of Wind headcanons

Nesta installs a dance studio in there and whenever she can she goes and dance for hours.

Nesta, Gwyn, Emerie and the House start a monthly sleep-over in the private library. The House always conjures the miniature pegasus without being asked.

Can we talk about the fact that in the future the House of Wind will have a nursery???? because i have to talk about it. don’t know if i’ll be able to do so without crying but just- nessian’s babies nation

When Nessian’s children are born the House would conjure anything just to please them and will protect them at all costs. The House as a babysitter and mother-hen.

The House starts talking to Cassian and recommends him smut books. He reads them and find them pretty interesting. He also recommends the House books but as they are of warfare the House finds them boring.

When Cassian and Nesta fight the House would be angry with Cassian for some days and would serve his food cold.

The House of Wind is Nyx’s favorite place in the city. Cassian and Nesta even give him a room when he is older. He loves it for the same reason Rhys did: flying. He also likes asking the House ridiculous things -the House loves his petitions-

Azriel keeps his room of course, but playing the chaperone is useless now (it always was)

Mor befriends the house and together they plan jokes to Cassian.

Feyre loves going to the House because it reminds her that her sister is happy and will never be alone.

Nessian headcanons

While sleeping, Cassian is very restless while Nesta sleeps in a ball, but they make it work. Also, Cassian takes all the blankets so Nesta ends up beside him and his wings.

The two of them loves sleeping in. Cassian would never admit it because he would never hear the end of it from the ic. (i know he said in acomaf that daylight is precious but now that he has found his mate he has change a liiitle his opinion about that. like now wake up beside his love is more precious than anything!!!!!)

I think it’s not fair we didn’t got a smut scene in the bathtub.

When Nesta has a nightmare, Cassian would hug her and comfort her while remind her it was a dream, and now she got out, and is loved and cherished by a lot of people.

Nesta is still a little uncomfortable to venture into Velaris so she asks Cassian to fly her over the city whenever she needs to go out and doesnt want to tangle in the multitude.

Nesta headcanons

Every Starfall, Nesta would take the stairs down and up just to remind herself the way up is long but by the end she would find happiness.

She is really protective over the House. She wouldn’t let anyone spill anything or mess around.

She starts taking dancing lessons again, even though she doesn’t need them. It’s her favorite part of the week. I can imagine Gwyn joining her. Emerie prefers watching them and smirk while drinking tea.

She visits her father’s tomb more than her sisters, and tells him every aspect of her life because she didn’t do it when he was alive.

She doesn’t like the Court of Nightmares, but the Winter Solstice ball in there is one of her favorites events of the year.

She goes back to being a courtier/emmisary for the Night Court and loves tormenting the people she has to deal with. (just imagine Nesta in Vallahan, they would sign the treaty in a second)

She continues working in the Library because she is still healing and the Library is such a big part of that. She continues fighting with Merrill too (gwyn is please of that)

Also she starts practicing with Amren to use her powers, even if there is not a lot to master (tho i think she is still very powerful but let’s wait for the next book to confirm this)

ALSO Nesta as a mother: she gives her children a lot of love because she remembers how it is to have a cold mother and doesn’t want to repeat the story.

Nessian’s children headcanon

I can see Nessian wanting another baby tbh but let’s stop in one until Sarah shows us the contrary.

But just imagine Nessian’s children + Nyx playing hide-and-seek on the House of the Wind and the House helping them hide.

Nessian’s daugther loves hearing Gwyn sing, and is particularly obsessed with Emerie because she sees herself in Emerie (like they are both Illyrians i’m crying nessian’s daughter doesnt understand why her aunt can’t fly).

Of course, that means I need to pick a favorite character. So, I'll do three, but I'll generally stay in the worlds of SJM, except the first favorite character who is all time fav.

Leopold Fitz (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.): I think he'd really love Gwyn, tbh. Mostly because, if I had to pick a character who reminded me most of his best friend/love of his life, it's probably Gwyn. But, I'm not sure he'd love Az, to be honest. He wouldn't dislike Az, but considering his relationship with Simmons (his love), he'd really want Gwyn to have that partnership and friendship too, so he'll be waiting to see that before he can ship her with anyone.

Nesta Archeron: She'd fall hard and fast for Rowan Whitethorn. And maybe a bit for Aelin, so she'd get the relationship. I also can't help but feel like Rowan and Aelin have a number of reverse Nessian vibes...but that may just be me. 👀 But I do think she'd like Rowan more, I think she'd probably be a bit too turned on by him at the beginning of HoF - maybe a bit embarrassed by it even - and that would just be the start of true love for her.

Cassian: Boy would simp over Aedion and Lysandra. Even if I think Rowaelin is more similar to him and Nesta, I think he'd be all about Lysaedion. He'd definitely relate to Aedion (obvious reasons, I think). But I also think he would be extremely amused by Lysandra and would just love her attitude. And beginning of Kingdom of Ash would break his heart, with Aedion's idiocy, what he did to Lysandra, and how the tables turned and they still were apart. Oh, he'd be strugglingggg. All while Nesta's sitting there, grinning like an idiot cause Rowan and Aelin have found each other.

Bonus - in ToG (first book), I think Nesta would prefer Dorian, but she'd be able to tell that Chaol and Celaena were going to be together. And, for a hot second, she'd think they were endgame based on SJM's writing. Cassian, like me, would be shipping Celaena with Nox and would not care that it's obviously not going to happen. He might even end up holding out hope for Nox until QoS...and maybe when we meet him again he gets all giddy, only to be like "wait, shit, we already know Rowaelin are mates, dammit". 😂

Uhhhh it’s hit or miss idk she can write obviously, and I do like some of the concepts she writes about but together as a cohesive piece...? Not really my cup of tea. It took me a long time to realize that I really was just trying to like her books to follow the hype lol.

I really did force myself through tog cus I had ordered like six of them and binged through it out of sheer will and by the time the last book came out, I forgot most of what happened and seriously could not find it in myself to reread, but at that point I was reading to know how it all tied up (also I never read chaols book so imagine my surprise when mans comes back married and expecting 🥴🥴🥴) .

Reading acotar was just me blinking passively through most parts. Tbh I liked human feyre cus I thought she was just the baddest bitch for kicking ass in a fae realm, and I liked rhysand for a bit too but all his points on court of dream contradicted how he ruled over nightmares and I just could not clear this fandom-claimed feminist as an actual feminist. He really said I love women and children except for you( court of nightmares/illirian camp) you guys can choke 🙄🙄🙄 also some plot holes I don’t wanna get into cus that’s another essay.

And... I hate sjms smut lol the way I was screaming...... metaphorical sex and sex that makes the fucking sky literally ignite just skeeve me out 😔😔😔 like even if it was in a book I do love (for example, if holly black made flowers bloom while Cardan and Jude fucked, I would have put the book down for a few days. I’m going on vacation for a couple of days so we’ll cover some extra chapters to make up for it.

The last leg of the trek the next morning was the longest yet, Manon thought.

At least we’re in Manon’s POV for now. They’re all still traveling through the marshes.

Dorian Havilliard’s tense tan face

Since when the hell was Dorito tan??

The others were swiftly pulling ahead, but Dorian remained still. Even had the audacity to grip [Manon’s] wrist—hard.

Dorito tells Manon he killed his father and Manon isn’t bothered by it, because y’know, she’s a witch and all. They finally stumble upon the temple that holds the Lock.

When Lysandra’s solitary, swift roar cleaved the air, Aelin murmured to Rowan, “What’s the catch? Where is the catch? It’s too easy.” Indeed, there was nothing and no one here.

Oh, there will be a catch or trap waiting, y’all are just fucking stupid and wouldn’t spot a trap if it punched you in the face.

“I keep a tally, you know, Princess. To remind myself to repay you the next time we’re alone for all the truly wonderful things you say.” [Aelin’s] toes curled in her soggy boots. But she patted [Rowan] on the shoulder, looking him over with absolute irreverence, saying as she walked ahead, “I certainly hope you make me beg for it.”

You two are goddamn disgusting and I hate you. Also, why does Rowboat call her princess when he’s constantly referred to her as his queen before? Consistency who?

Alien asks Manon what the name of her sword is.

“Wind-Cleaver.” Aelin clicked her tongue. “Good name.” “Yours?” “Goldryn.” A slash of iron teeth as they were bared in a half smile. “Not as good a name.”

Alien is about to tell Rowboat something, presumably important, but chickens out and says she’ll tell him later. That’s pretty much a guarantee that it’ll bite them in the ass. Anyways, they find a chest on the altar that presumably contains the Lock.

Manon leaned over the chest to study the lid but did not open it. Studying, Aelin realized, the countless Wyrdmarks carved into the stone. Nehemia had known how to use the marks. Had been taught them and was fluent enough in them to have wielded their power. Aelin had never asked how or why or when.

*sobs* these books were so much better when Nehemia was around......

Before they can do anything, Lorass sends them a warning signal that the Ilken are approaching.

Rowan’s throat bobbed, and [Aelin] knew he’d been taking in the horizon and surrounding lands not for any chance of winning the battle that was sure to come, but for any shot at getting her out. Even if the rest of them had to buy her time with their own lives.

I know it’s only logical to try and get the royalty out safely but I’m goddamn sick of everyone being so ready to lay down their lives for Alien, when she wouldn’t lift a single finger to help anyone who doesn’t kiss her ass. Alien is such a goddamn Mary Sue please free me from this hell.

Next chapter starts with Lorass and Elide making a run for it.

Lorcan sent out another flickering blast of his power. Not toward the winged army that raced not too far ahead, but farther—toward wherever Whitethorn and his bitch-queen might be in this festering place. If those ilken reached them long before Lorcan could arrive, that Wyrdkey the bitch carried would be as good as lost.

Oh my goddd, thank you for having someone’s motivation be anything besides hailing Alien as the best queen ever. Lorass, you’re at least interesting and you’re actually improving enough that I can stomach your POVs, plus you might kill Alien off and that’s a major bonus. You are hereby promoted back to Lorcan.

We immediately shift back to Alien and her group of jackasses making a run for it.

And Lorcan … somewhere out there. [Aelin]’d think on that later. At least Fenrys and Gavriel had remained, rather than charging off to fulfill Maeve’s kill order.

Of course they stayed to save your dumb ass rather than fulfill their orders. Of fucking course. Alien suggests she uses the Wyrdkey again and Rowboat gets all pissy, which I kinda understand because the last time Alien used the Wyrdkey she killed a bunch of innocent people, destroyed part of an island, and was possessed by a goddess. She really is fucking stupid.

Aedion let out a low, bitter laugh. “You wanted to send a message to our enemies about your power, Aelin.” (...) Aedion jerked his chin toward the army approaching. “It seems Erawan sent his answer.”

IMPOSSIBLE, ALIEN MAKES A BAD DECISION AND ASSDION IS CALLING HER OUT ON IT??? I know Rowboat is gonna shoot him down but holy shit, Assdion is thinking independently for once in his life! Maybe he’ll be promoted back to Aedion.

Aelin hissed, “You blame me for this?” Aedion’s eyes darkened. “We should have stayed in the North.” “I had no choice, I’ll have you remember.” “You did,” Aedion breathed, none of the others, not even Rowan, stepping in. “You’ve had a choice all along, and you opted to flash your magic around.”

I am fucking living for this Alien roast tbh, I’d read a whole book of the characters taking shots at her dumb vain ass. That's right Alien, you thought you could kill innocent people for no reason other than to show off and get away with it but you were WRONG BITCH!!! WRONG!!!!!!!

Aedion’s lip curled off his teeth. “This isn’t a game. This is war, and you pushed and pushed Erawan to show his hand. You refused to run your schemes by us first, to let us weigh in, when we have fought wars—”

I LOVE THIS SONG!! I know Assdion has done shit in the past but oh my god, I am living for this redemption!!! Has SJM become self aware and is redeeming her characters last minute??? Even Rowboat thinks her plan is fucking stupid!

Only [Rowan’s] anger was directed at [Aelin]—perhaps more livid than she’d seen him since Mistward.

This is the best chapter no competition, I am loving this Alien roast. I know it probably won’t last but I am crying, finally we’re acknowledging that Alien’s plans are selfish and stupid.

But [Rowan’s] pine-green eyes were bright—almost soft—as he said, “Remember who you are. Every step of the way down, and every step of the way back. Remember who you are. And that you’re mine.”

Now we’re ripping off the Lion King? I mean, I know it’s a semi generic quote but given SJM’s past of ripping off other novels, I wouldn’t be surprised.

The Queen of Flame and Shadow, the Heir of Fire, Aelin of the Wildfire, Fireheart …

I feel like at this point, SJM, you should’ve realized you’ve given Alien waaaaay too many titles, none of which she’s done anything to deserve or earn. Can you say, Mary Sue?

Chapter ends with Alien firing out a huge fire tornado out of her ass that is most certainly going to drain up all of her magic. Gg dumbass, you’re gonna be useless for a few days after this. Fingers crossed that this bites her in the ass afterwards.

Lorcan knew they were still too slow, warning signal or not.

Next chapter opens with Elide and Lorcan again. Lorcan has given her Maeve’s ring to protect her, which is honestly really sweet. Maybe I’ll ship them. Maybe.

Elide staggered one step—one step toward Aelin, a small noise coming out of her.

No please SJM I’m begging you, don’t make Elide into a mindless Alien worshiper like Assdion... please SJM I’m begging.......

“What is … ,” Elide breathed, but Lorcan lunged for her, hurling them to the ground, covering her body with his. He threw a shield over them, plummeting hard and fast into his magic, the drop nearly uncontrolled.

Lorcan puts the safety of Elide over his own need for revenge against Alien. I’ve gripped about his character development before, but it’s probably the only real character arc in this entire novel, so I’ll take it.

There’s a switch to Assdion’s POV, but it lasts for like half a page before it returns to Lorcan. SJM really just wants to splooge over how uhmazing Alien is through Assdion. Gag.

Lorcan watched in silence as Rowan slid a hand over her waist, the other cupping the side of her face, and kissed his queen. Embers stirred her unbound hair as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed close. A golden crown of flame flickered to life atop Rowan’s head—the twin to the one Lorcan had seen burning that day at Mistward.

Ewwww at least Lorcan is only saying what he’s seeing and not splooging over the shitty Ratlin ship.

Ash continued to fall, clumping on Elide’s silky night-dark hair. [Lorcan] gently picked out a bit, then put a shield over her to keep it from landing on her again.

Anyways Lorcan and Elide decide to stroll on over to say hello to the group of jackasses. Weird, since Elide just pointed Lorcan isn’t on friendly terms with Alien, but eh, maybe he knows they won’t prioritize attacking him due to the circumstances-

Slowly, Lorcan closed in on his prey, too focused on the fire-breathing bitch to notice that Fenrys and Gavriel had vanished from their positions in the reeds.

Oh my god, I...I actually feel... panic! Like, I actually do care about Elide and Lorcan a little bit now? I don’t want them to be hurt? What the fuck, how did you manage this, SJM?

Well, Chapter 57 picks right back up with Elide’s POV.

Elide had never been more aware of her limp. Of her dirty clothes; of her long, unshaped hair; of her small body and lack of any discernible gifts.

Christ I get it SJM, no one is even worthy of getting to lick Alien’s boots, I get it, stop rubbing it in my face.

[Lorcan] said coolly, “It would seem our bargain with each other is about to end anyway. I’ll be sure to explain the terms, don’t worry. I’d hate for them to think you were slumming it with me.”

Aww, Lorcan is putting her needs above his own......

Gav and Fenrys, understandably, attack Lorcan in furry wolf/lion form. Elide pushes him out of the way and one of them bites her arm.

[Lorcan] growled to the lion and the wolf, his shield a swirling, obsidian wind around them, “You’re dead. You’re both dead—”

I’m a sucker for that “Character A doesn’t know how much Character B cares about them until they’re injured and B loses their mind” trope, so I admit I’m warming up to them a tiny bit more.

Lorcan’s onyx eyes were unreadable as he scanned [Elide’s] face. And then he said quietly, “I wanted to go to Perranth with you.” Lorcan dropped the shield.

Damn.. can’t believe SJM’s writing is improving a tiny bit towards the end... it’s rather late, but not completely unwelcomed.

Gav offers to heal Elide while Fenrys and Lorcan wave their dicks around some more at each other. Can’t believe I’m grateful for Rowboat’s presence for once, but he comes to put a stop to the Alpha Male competition. Alien also shows up so SJM can splooge about her via Elide’s POV.

Aelin strode closer, eyes never leaving Elide’s face. Young—she felt so young compared to the woman who approached.

Ain’t they like, the same age, though?

And Elide sobbed as Manon Blackbeak emerged, smiling faintly.

PURE AND WHOLESOME................I hope we get more Elide/Manon interactions.

Fenrys feels legitimately sorry for injuring Elide, and I’m inclined to believe him. She did push Lorcan out of the way of a bite that was intended for him.

“I’m here,” Elide said as Aelin fixed those unnervingly vivid eyes on her, “because of Kaltain Rompier.”

So apparently Kaltain gave Elide the stone because she owed Alien for... giving her a warm cloak. What the fuck? Alien slutshamed Kaltain, insulted her, didn’t bother to free her from prison, did I mentioned she slutshamed her? And Kaltain wants to repay a debt for Alien doing the bare minimum? Fuck outta here with that nonsense.

“M-majesty,” [Elide] stammered, inclining her head. She should really get up. Really stop lying on the ground like a worm. But the cloth and stone still lay in her hand.

Elide, baby, it’s okay. None of these people are worth the dirt on the bottom of your shoe.

[Lorcan] didn’t let go of Elide’s arm, and she tried not to lean into his warmth. Tried not to make it seem like she hadn’t just met her queen, her friend, her court, and … somehow now found Lorcan to be the safest of them all.

“We like to call it ‘territorial male nonsense,’” Aelin confided. “Or ‘territorial Fae bastard’ works just as nicely.” The Fae Prince coughed pointedly behind her.

I connect with Feyre with the fact that my parents are not the greatest all and most of the time I’m left to my own devices of sorts. Aelin. Well for one I have Ashryver eyes so that’s one thing. But to be dead honest, I want her strength. Her ability to get through situations with ease and then talking them out later with Rowan or Aedion or Lysandra. can i ask what really turned you off of throne of glass? bc i used to love it too but looking back on it im like Um Yikes but im always curious to know what did it for other people (for me it was nehemia's death & the aftermath of that plus book 3 was the nail in the coffin)

honestly where do i even begin? because there is so much that i just look back on that makes me question how i even liked this series. if this ends up being a long post i’m sorry but i have a lot of feelings about this.

firstly, one of the biggest reasons why i no longer love this series is because of how problematic it is and sjm’s refusal to acknowledge the criticism of it and just own up to the fact that she fucked up. because almost every poc character she has in tog was killed off for the sake of white development (nehemia for aelin & sorscha for dorian) and lgbt+ characters are sidelined (emrys + malakai in hof), villainized (manon’s grandmother), the one canon bisexual character is called the “whore of adarlan” (aedion in eos), or paired off with broody “males” (malide should’ve happened) not to even mention how all of the guy characters are a caricature of the hyper aggresive sexy “male” who simply cannot control himself since it’s in his “nature.” because what’s human decency and respectful behavior towards your significant other?

secondly, i do not like the direction where she took this series in at all. nehemia didn’t need to die to get celaena/aelin in the emotional state she was in hof. you know what could’ve happened? celaena feeling lost and broken because she was in a foreign country by herself away from everyone she had learned to love in adarlan (nehemia, chaol, dorian) and facing the fact that she was the lost princess of terrasen. the series could’ve been about celaena accepting both parts of herself (assassin & queen) without becoming arrogant and dismissive of her troubled past? can you imagine how great it would’ve been to have nehemia and celaena ruling erilea as the best of friends? dorian and chaol being the cute cinnamon rolls they were? instead we got a very white series, very straight and cis characters (all of them), special snowflakes (aelin), shitty sex scenes (velvet-wrapped steel), anti-climatic deaths (arobynn & king of adarlan), sunken ships that should’ve sailed (chaolaena & doraelin & malide), buthered character development (tbh who wasn’t ooc?), and more sex this time with fire (so hot it will turn sand into glass) because what’s logic.

lastly, i cannot for the life of me stand her writing anymore. i feel like this partly due to the fact that she keeps writing huge ass books and they aren’t going through a long enough editing process and partly because its overdramatic and lazy in my opinion. everytime she uses “male” and “female” to describe a character every five seconds i want to through my book out the window. is it really necessary? (also very cis again) there has been multiple people pointing out how she’s plagarized lines (rattle the stars from treasure planet & to whatever end from lord of the rings) which may be unintentional but a quick google search could’ve prevented this from happening in the first place. also she uses the staple lines(she was the heir of ash and fire and she would bow to no one) that most series have way to often, so much that losses all of its weight? she is incapable of switching romantic relationships without buthering the previous love interests character (chaol in qos/dorian in eos). also empire of storms and a court of mist and fury basically have the same ending which is just super lazy?

i’m probably forgetting so much more that i hate but i’ve already spent way too much time writing this. while i may not like throne of glass anymore, i did like acomaf even though its not much better and still problematic (are we even surprised?). i actually like the characters and they haven’t gone to shit yet but we’ll see how i feel after acowar.

Cassian. It's not Cassian for a few reasons.

Acosf is yes of course primarily Nesta's healing journey, but it is also Cassian's. They finding healing in each other's arms remember. You don't build up a relationship like this, put them through so much hell (especially Nesta) just to take it away. Nesta will go right back into that depressive hole, if they are mates, yeah she would defiently get broke again. Which then what's the point of acosf? Suffer, heal, suffer again? SJM can be a monster at times. But to have Nesta heal, have her and Cassian finally get to together and be happy just to rip it away from Nesta? Yeah I can't see it. This book means to much for SJM

Cassian, my stupid Illyrian Gryffindor son has almost faced death a couple of times already. Being that he acts first and thinks later. Some people would expect it because of this. And that's why he won't. It's too predictable.

I don't wanna even think of this tbh.

Given he has a bonus POV I doubt it. Highly doubt it.

Killing a fan favorite is always gut wrenching so I can see this one for that reason alone. This is the only reason I could see this. Is because his death would hurt everyone.

However, Az has a story yet to unfold so if it's him it won't be in ACOSF. If anyone

The Elriel piece. ACOTAR as a whole is a romance driven series. If he's her endgame I can't see it being him. (The Nessian angle, why have a book bringing them together to rip them apart).

Now who knows maybe Elain as seer of a vision where he dies. That's always possible...

If he dies. It would be impactful on Elain and her story. By now she's probably use to the second heartbeat. Between that and well losing her mate regardless of accepting the bond or not, I think she'd feel a emptiness within her.

I could see this as a plot point in her story.

If she never gave him the chance, would she regret it?

I can't see it because it's Lucien. I love him and he deserves way more than a death in ACOSF

Because out of everyone her death would be felt across everyone. The Inner Circle of course, Her father (regardless of the years of hate and annoimosty it's still his daughter), Eris (would offer sympathies whether they were accepted...), the other High Lords, mainly Helion and Kallias. Oh and Vivienne would be devastated too.

It feels like a death that could bring people bring people together if need be.

Probably Az –observant, rational, represses emotions, quiet, secretly scary (no, butseriously, people get really nervous around me when they think I’m mad). I��vealso gone through periods of serious self-doubt and loathing and self-harm, so…I wouldn’t be surprised if the last thing were something Az does. He seems to punishhimself with work and has a one-track mind, which… you get the benefit of mebeing like that via this blog. I think he also hides a lot of what he isfeeling, and right now y’all are like “lol Leslie you are so fucking dramaticand feeling things all over the internet all the time”, but seriously… I’m notlike this irl. I’m the opposite, really.

8– Did you shipRowaelin from the moment he came into the picture?

Not exactly,but it didn’t take long. I already had an inkling that they were going to be athing (thanks, internet), so I was open to it. When he saw her scars and madeher start sleeping in his room, and then when he took the blood oath to her, Iwas done. Finis. Finished. Deceased. Still not over it. I have “to whatever end”tattooed on my body.

9– How quicklydid you stop shipping Chaolaena? Or do you still ship ot?

I stopped shippingit pretty much at the beginning of HoF. I was never super into it, especiallywhen he was thinking about spending the rest of his life with her when THEYLITERALLY HAD BEEN DOING IT FOR LIKE 5 DAYS. Come on, Chaol…

17– Do you blameElena?

Not really.I think it’s easy to get really frustrated with her, but she was faced withpretty similar circumstances as Aelin at the end of EoS, in that she had tomake the best choice she could at the time for the greater good. She didn’thave all the information, and she could have gotten it, perhaps, but there wasalso no reason for her to have not been told about the plan to banish Erawan.It’s not like she was some rando foot soldier – she could have been let in onthe actual use for the lock.

24– Whichcharacter would you most like to hook up with?

Azriel. No, Rowan.No, Az. No, Rhys. No, Az & Mor at the same time. Yes, Mor & Az at thesame time, this is my final answer. (You do have a good point about Archer, I mean… what would that be like???)

Not Az. Heseems like a lot of work, tbh. He’s got some stuff to work out first. ProbablyRowan. He is really understanding about Aelin’s past relationships and lets herbe herself, is ok with her taking charge, gives her space, but also is totallydevoted. And actually… maybe Cassian?

Canon? I have ships I’m not too crazy about, but I generally accept whatever SJM has in store for them. The ones I’m not crazy about though are elorcan, lysaedion, and manorian. I’m not too happy with either Lorcan orAedion right now. And I know there is a lot of evidence for Dorian and Manon being drawn to each other from the moment they saw each other, and clearlythey have the sexual chemistry, but I really ship Manon with herself. That’sjust my personal preference. But I’m not super concerned about any canon shipending.

Non-canon? Elriel.That ship can catch fire and burn any day now. I don’t mind most crack ships,in fact I’m kind-of… having feelings lately about some I might want to write(in the smuttiest way possible). But I really dislike that this one basicallycame from dislike and/or misunderstanding of characters, not to mention howmuch other characters would have to suffer for it to come about. And I really don’t think it’s cute or that they are compatible. See my response to the first question - that is Az. He is not quiet because he is shy or a little fluffy ball of sweetness - in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Wow, I didn’texpect my response to this question to get so long.
