“A man who would be intimidated by me is exactly the kind of man I would have no interest in.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie b.September 15, 1977
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an award-winning author and an influential advocate of feminism. She has captivated people worldwide with her powerful storytelling and her outspoken campaign for gender equality. She was born in Enugu, Nigeria, and was raised in an academic environment that surely nurtured her passion for writing. As one of six siblings she grew up in the university town of Nsukka, her Mother was the first female registrar at University of Masuka and her father was Nigeria's first professor of statistics, and later became Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the same university. She attributes her success in part to her parents for, encouraging her self-confidence and being supportive by always showing that they had confidence in her. She began studying medicine and pharmacy at the university school her parents worked at; though, writing seems to have called to her, as she also edited the magazine created by the medical students. She left her medical studies after a year and a half when at nineteen she gained a scholarship to Eastern Connecticut State University in America, where she graduated summa cum laude (with highest honours) with a degree in communication and political science and continued her passion for writing by producing articles for the university journal. She went on to gain her master’s degree in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University, become a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University, earned an MA in African Studies from Yale University, and she was awarded a fellowship by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University. During this time, she has released numerous novels, including A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions. She holds strong feelings regarding gender equality and is proud of her femininity, taking pleasure in fashion whilst grappling with the knowledge that she will be judged for the way she chooses to dress. Her belief is that you should be happy to be who you are, without being forced into a mould society has decided fits your gender. Refusing to conform to a female academic stereotype, she loves make-up and has been the face of Boots No7 cosmetics. Now married with a daughter, she splits her time between Nigeria, where she teaches writing workshops, and the United States. All in all, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a world-renowned writer, acclaimed academic, fashion icon, beauty queen and a feminist warrior we all should have heard of.

i had a lot of thoughts about the difference between genshin and sso, so i wrote them down in a wordpad and here are some of them! (i refer to characters from genshin and horses from star stable as models for ease of typing)
long ass post under the cut
-free to play games that end up becoming majorly pay to win if you wish to progress
-both games share a common push factor, spending in game currency for models --in genshin impact, you start with a small amount of characters obtained for free (the quality of their performances vary), but you are encouraged to pull for stronger characters via the gacha wishing system --in star stable, you start with a customizable starter horse, but you are encouraged to purchase new horses via any of the areas they are sold --unlike genshin however, horses in star stable are almost purely cosmetic, and usually do not provide a stat boost that can help you progress through the game's storyline
-both games feature environments heavily inspired by real life cultures --star stable's environment, jorvik, is heavily inspired by european (specifically swedish) culture --genshin impact features many environments based off of different countries and cultures, including germany, china, japan, india and african countries, france, south america and russia.
-similar story motivations, your character goes/ends up somewhere to do one thing and are requested to do multiple other things, hindering their goal somewhat and putting them in unreasonable amounts of danger
-paid currency can be acquired occasionally without spending real life money --in genshin impact, codes, quests, and daily commissions will net you varied amounts of paid currency --on the other hand, star stable only offers free paid currency via uncommon code releases or a weekly membership allowance (which, in most cases, is technically not free)
-over time, models become outdated, whether by appearance or performance capability
-models get nerfed and buffed regularly (horse retrofits and animation glitches in star stable, character buffing and nerfing in genshin (i.e. dehya or bennett))
-additional equipment impacts performance of the model (artifacts in genshin, tack in star stable) --both tack and artifacts can be locked until you progress further in the game --tack in star stable is far easier to acquire than artifacts in genshin
-leveling up your models significantly increases their power or speed --processes for both games can take a long time depending on how prepared you are to level up your model --in genshin impact, you must have both level up material and ascension requirements to level your model up to max --in star stable, you must garner horse xp via daily races and other various quests you can complete. you can also use paid currency to auto-level your models.
-just a fuckton of npcs. --npcs everywhere. --in both games. --do they matter? --sometimes --why the fuck are there so many

Setting Up Audre 5.2
Today we’re back at the PI Strip on 10 Pleasant Boulevard to take a look at the last retail shop that I fully renovated in @one-plumbob’s custom world, Pleasant Isle. As I mentioned in the first post for this lot, one-plumbob had 10 Pleasant Boulevard set up as the world’s elixir shop. The areas currently reserved for the unfinished housewares store, and the Audre African Arts Gallery were just shells. The only area that was furnished was the section of the building featured in this post.
Tumblr media
This building I now call Sun and Sea Pharmacy, because the sign I used had those images on it, lol. While the structure was a multi story community space, I either cut access to the basement, or completely deleted it. I can’t remember with certainty which I did.
Tumblr media
The front of the building pretty much remains the same; two entrances with yellow benches sat out between them. The changes I did make were mostly cosmetic. I moved the neon sign that was once above the gallery entrance onto the pharmacy’s outer front windows. I added some welcome mats in front of each entrance, although I totally forgot to recolor them. I also decorated the window panes with custom medical posters that I want to say came from @aroundthesims, but may be from another creator.
If anyone wants to verify/correct me on this, just comment and I’ll update the post.
Tumblr media
The original lot used a nice wood pattern inside that I decided to add to all the shelving. I also used it for the register/prescription drug section of the pharmacy. That being, the columns, the half walls, counters, etc.
Tumblr media
I think I might have lightened the white of the windows, switching it from wood to a custom miscellaneous white. I also changed the color of the paint above the wall panel, but the floor is the same as the original.
Tumblr media
Unlike some of my other games, where I have a sim dedicated to making potions, Audre isn’t meant to be played in rounds that allow me to make sure all my sims are contributing to world upkeep. Additionally, while @anitmb’s merchant mod sales potions fine, I think it can’t clone them, so I wouldn’t be able to load a sim’s inventory from potions made in another game and resale them using the clone option.
Tumblr media
So there are no potions. Instead, the pharmacy carries all the custom soaps, bubble bath, and bath bombs (which I think are rubber ducks) by Sandy, @mspoodle1, and @phoebejaysims (I might be missing someone here, lol).
Tumblr media
Sun And Sea also carries the shower in a can and mosquito spray bottles that came with World Adventures, and probably one or two custom recolors of those items most likely made by one of the already mentioned creators.
Tumblr media
Of course, using the merchant mod means being able to sale the custom personal care and house cleaning items on display. So there will be plenty of other items on sale here.
Tumblr media
Several months back I introduced a friend to TS3 by loading up this save and showing off my renos. They’ve heard me talk about the sims, and watched a few minutes of Let’s Plays, but this was there first time really getting a look around in one of my games. This friend lives in the area that Pleasant Isle takes it’s inspiration from. They complemented both Sunflower Fresh Market (the most popular reno from this series), and Sun and Sea Pharmacy.
I guess these shops look the most like the places they visit on the daily.
Tumblr media
Well, that’s it for now. Once I’m able to complete another reno for this world I’ll post more. Hope you all enjoyed theses posts and are having fun simming in your own games.

How Diversity Changed Fashion
Prada's advertising campaigns didn't feature a black model for 19 years until Malaika Firth was cast in 2013. Before that, the last model to be featured was Naomi Campbell in 1994, the year Firth was born. After taking over in 2009, Celine's Creative Director Phoebe Philo didn't use any black models in her runway shows until SS14.
Beverly Johnson
Tumblr media
Beverly Johnson was born on October 13, 1952, in Buffalo, New York. She began her career in the 1970s and quickly rose to fame, becoming the first African American models to gain mainstream success in the fashion industry.
Her Influence On The Fashion Industry
Beverly Johnson has had a significant influence on the fashion industry. She was the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Vogue in 1974, breaking barriers and opening doors for models of colour who had been underrepresented in the industry. This was a significant moment in fashion history as it helped pave the way for more diversity and representation in the fashion industry.
In recent years, Johnson has continued to be an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry and has been honoured for her contributions to the industry. She continues to be an inspiration and role model for many young woman of colour who are following in her footsteps.
Will SS21 Be A Turning Point For Diversity?
"The fashion industry is one of the most influential industries and must use [its] platform responsibly," decreed Fashion For All Foundation, a non-profit promoting equality and diversity through education and empowerment. "Fashion sets trends, and needs to set the trend on creating an equal society."
Winnie Harlow
Tumblr media
At just 25 years old, Canadian model Winnie Harlow has already changed the face of fashion. Since she was discovered by Tyra Banks on the 21st series of America's Top Model in 2014-competing under her real name, Chantelle Brown-Young-she's been central in the move towards a more diverse and inclusive fashion industry.
Harlow may not have won the competition, but she didn't need to. She's fronted campaigns for the likes of of Diesel and MAC Cosmetics, a regular on the catwalk and fashion's front rows and appeared on dozens of magazine covers, all the while raising awareness about her skin condition, vitiligo (which causes patches of pigmentation loss).
Following her first Vogue cover for Vogue Arabia, she said of her journey: "[It's] all to be able to tell, no, SHOW the world that representation matters. That beauty is within the eye of the beholder and no ones 'definition of beauty' should matter but your own".
So, how has Harlow shown us all how it's done in just 5 years? There have been some seriously standout moments both on and off duty. She turned up the sophistication to attend the Christian Dior Haute Couture SS18 show in black tuxedo trousers, open white shirt and thin-frame glasses; before taking a walk on the wilder side in thigh-high leopard boots and a yellow overcoat to attend the 10th anniversary party of Victoria Beckham during London Fashion Week SS19.
Fei Fei Sun
Tumblr media
Fei Fei Sun also became a fashion first when she covered “Vogue Italia,” marking the first time a model of East Asian descent appeared on a solo cover for the Italian publication. The Chinese model’s career kicked off when Karl Lagerfeld selected her to walk Chanel’s Paris-Shanghai runway in 2009, and since then she has been a runway and campaign favourite for top fashion houses.
Mona Tougaard
Tumblr media
Mona Tougaard has landed some major campaigns in the past several seasons, including Burberry, Chanel, Chloé, Loewe, Max Mara, Prada and Versace. At just 17, the Danish model-whose heritage is a mix of Somalian, Ethiopian, Danish and Turkish-has already graced i-D Magazine’s April 2020 cover and has most recently modelled in Chanel’s pre-fall 2020 show.

Vivienne Westwood
On a wool jumper designed for Prince Charles to wear when off-duty, Westwood played around with various British insignia before focusing on the orb found on the crown jewels. To bring that future aesthetic to the insignia, she added the rings of Saturn which was inspired by pictures she'd seen in astronomy magazines.
Tumblr media
Victoria’s Secret
One of the earliest wordmarks, which was featured on the 1977 catalogue, sports a vintage script with many fine details. In the mid-1980s, however, simpler and clearer typefaces, both serif and sans-serif ones, started to be used. The company experimented with the font weight and proportions before setting on what looks very close the current version in the 1990s.
Tumblr media
Elf
Technically speaking, the Elf logo is just the three letters forming the name of the company. And yet, the design manages to recreate the spirit of the brand.
If you take a closer look at the letters (which are perfectly functional, by the way), you will notice the elegant combination of thinner and thicker strokes, the unusual top end of the “l,” as well as the shortened horizontal bar on the “f” and more… These subtle details bring about certain charm and distinctiveness.
Tumblr media
Kanye West
Kanye West was born on June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia. Both parents belonged to intelligent professions. Father Ray West was one of the first African-American photojournalists in the United States. Donda, West’s mother, was a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University when her son was born. She later headed the Department of Philology at the University of Chicago, and when Kanye needed a personal manager, a woman took over those duties.

The same is with the company’s logo — historic legacy is enclosed into a frame of style, power, and exclusiveness.

Dior
It’s difficult to say now, what made the Christian Dior brand recognizable all over the globe — the haute couture clothing and accessories, or perfume and cosmetic lines; but whatever it is, each product of the Parisian fashion house is a masterpiece, created for elegant people, who value style, sophistication, timelessness and only choose the best and the highest quality.

Case study: Drunk Elephant
Launched in 2013 in Houston, Texas by their founder Tiffany Masterson, Drunk Elephant is a cosmetic and beauty brand that sells skincare products. Her aim was to create a skincare product with better ingredients for sensitive skin.
That is why Drunk Elephant was a skin-care line that seemed tailor-made for me. Firstly, it’s got sex appeal: At Sephora, it makes up 50% of the top 10 skin-care best-sellers, and its giant colourful bottles are purposefully marketed towards bougie hoarders like me. The products are designed to mix with one another, be worn in any order, and are supposedly suited for every skin type because of the way the brand formulates its clean” ingredients. But the company's main stipulation — its ultimate answer to my ultimate problem — is a severe one: Thou shalt only use Drunk Elephant products.
“A routine is only as good as its worst product, a product only as good as its worst ingredient,” Drunk Elephant founder Tiffany Masterson writes in her founder’s note, addressing a common criticism from its users that Drunk Elephant always blames other skin-care brands for breakouts. “Using Drunk Elephant exclusively is the best way to get maximum results.” (Promoting brand purity)
The entire drunk elephant line is pricey, one element that justifies Drunk Elephant’s high prices is its focus on packaging.
Marula oil is found in nearly every single Drunk Elephant product. It is the centrepiece of the line, and the inspiration behind its name: A common safari legend goes that elephants love to eat fermented marula fruits and stumble around afterwards like a bunch of lushes — but biologists say that's just a myth. It’s this kind of “African Fantasy” view of a very real and very complicated continent that permeates so much of Drunk Elephant’s language and branding. In an Into The Gloss interview, Masterson says that her marula oil is scent- and colour-free: “That’s the way they use it in Africa, so that’s the way I’ll deliver it!”
That kind of purposefully obtuse tourist language feels bizarre to me, especially considering how strident Drunk Elephant is when it comes to the details about everything else. And Masterson herself has been very clear about how much lab work goes into extracting and processing the $72 oil. There’s nothing “natural” about it, which makes the “that’s the way they use it in Africa” statement so perplexing.
One of the most unique elements of Drunk Elephant’s marketing and formulation strategy (and of many other successful skincare brands), is the fact that their products directly speak to consumers. The brand focuses on clean, stripped-back skincare and its formulations was initially created based on what Masterson was looking for as a consumer. This is embedded in the brand’s overall marketing strategy and tone of voice, as Masterson notes: “I think my consumers trust me because I’m a consumer first, I’m honest with them and I’m willing to listen and learn as I grow.”

1000 people have 1000 perspectives about online beauty standards. The discussion about online beauty standards is unstoppable. But here is one thing is certain, which is the online beauty standard should be diverse. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that the unrealistic beauty standards on the Internet are negatively affecting teenagers and children, destroying the physical and mental health of the younger generation.
In the past, beauty standards were very diverse due to historical and cultural and social factors in different countries. For example, in the Tang Dynasty, ancient China. Fat was considered beautiful for women. In some primitive tribes in Africa, the length of the neck was defined as a beauty standard, and the longer the neck, the more beautiful they are.
Today, with the excellent development of information technology, 4.9 billion Internet users have access to the Internet, discuss their opinions and access different knowledge.
The explosive popularity of streaming short media platforms such as TIKTOK, instagram, etc. has taken the beauty and hair industry by storm and revolutionized the current beauty standards. I attribute this to the influence of internet celebrities and their spreading of the message. I believe that it is mainly the weblebrities who have had a major impact on the online toxic beauty standards. They fall into two categories.
For the first category, they meet a single beauty standard themselves, mainly characterized by blonde hair, blue eyes, tall and skinny. These weblebrities make money by selling beauty anxiety to their fans on online platforms and pushing them to buy products from the brands they work with, such as beauty and cosmetics. This type of internet celebrities use their own body and looks as selling points to attract more potential fans by taking photos, retouching, doing medical procedures, making videos, and so on. Through repetitive operations, they sell their unrealistic beauty to their fans that is not artificially created. Their fan base is likely to include teenagers who are developing physically and mentally. The result is that some extreme teenage fans even consume substandard diet pills or skin care products to bring themselves closer to beauty standards.Such online celebrities are usually not responsible for the negative impact they bring to their followers through their social media operations. In the long run, the inferiority complex and anxiety that people in the online world feel about a single standard of beauty will increase wildly, thus reinforcing a toxic online standard of beauty.
For the second category of celebrities, they see the social media platform as a tool to convey confidence in body image and beauty in all its diversity. Online celebrities from African, Latino, Asian, Caucasian and other ethnic groups are confident, enthusiastic, and vibrant in showing their beauty. They may have curly hair, dirty braids, straight hair, bald, wheatish, dark skin, or a black and white complexion due to albinism. Their ethnicity varies, but they are driving the online world's resistance to a single standard of beauty and its acceptance of self. These online celebrities convey the beauty of diversity and inspire women of all ethnicities and backgrounds to express themselves.
With regard to the beauty standards debate, I would say that times are moving on. Through the world of the internet, people from every corner of the world have the opportunity to express themselves. Victoria's Secret cannot thrive in a global marketplace by maintaining old, traditional, one-dimensional beauty standards. It's worth noting that the brand has also taken note of this, as Victoria's Secret is relaunching its big show this year and is working with prominent women from different fields, including some from the LGBTQ+ community. For example, the 19-year-old Olympic skiing world champion Eileen Gu, who was born into an ordinary family, and through her love of sports and perseverance has gone on to become a world champion. At the same time, she became the first person in town to enter Stanford University with a full score, and also became a Red Bull Sports Ambassador. This Victoria's comeback could be a huge success thanks to the precise choice of co-ambassador. Not only that, but the Norwegian government's policy is a historical one, defying a single unrealistic standard of beauty. The Norwegian government has set an example for the public sector with this regulation. Spreading body positivity and diversity of beauty is essential to the development of young people and is the responsibility of the government.
