Perhaps Lev wasn't imaginary, but the lengths at with Ralkan has gone in which to cage you from him has gone to places you would consider extreme, despite the fact that the Night Lord has done nothing at all.

If anything, the one time you truly needed help, when you were being cornered by astartes, Lev was the one that was there, not him.

You call to the Salamander who's attention waivers in your direction, allowing Lev to sneak in a solid strike to the man's jaw. He's quick to steady himself, and returns Lev's attack in force- nearly sending the Night Lord to his knee.

You quickly attempt to back out of the way as Lev is pushed towards you, as much as Ralkan tries to grapple him out of the room and away from you. When he manages to do so, gripping the shoulder of his armor and throwing him- the Night Lord stops his own momentum by gripping the frame of the door, Ralkan goes on the offensive and pushes him farther away and out of the doorframe fully.

The only downside to Ralkan's size is how much slower he is that the more lithe, agile Night Lord, who can easily dodge his blows. You try to stay as far away as you can but Throne, you want them to both stop.

He doesn't pay any attention to you, too consumed by tormenting the Salamander and keeping out of his massive grip. The two fight so fast you can barely keep track, and the late hour on the Flamewrought means that there isn't someone in radius for you to try and get help from.

You could try and run for it, hoping that they won't kill one another before you get one of Ralkan's brothers.

But if you do get one of his brothers... They'll kill Lev. Without hesitation. He's attacking one of their brothers, one of their captains; His fate is sealed if you do that.

You stop running, realizing what would happen. When you turn to see them as you try and rethink your options, you realize they've moved out of sight. You hear the clashing of armor and blades, the higher pitched sounds of a knife. You hear metal clank and warp, over and over as you try to rush towards it- But it stops.

The hall becomes deathly silent other than the sound of one pair of footsteps, heavily armored.

You don't get a chance to round the corner and look for Ralkan before Lev blocks it, coming towards you. You instinctively take one backstep.

There's no one around, the ship feels so dark and cold. He approaches you; You can see the clouds of his breath as he pants.

"Lev?"

He moves closer coming in like an encroaching shadow, before reaching his hands up towards you. For a second you tense in the fear he's going for your neck, but he doesn't. His hands cradle your face. You can feel the blood that sticks to them, sticking to your skin and running down your neck.

“My little one, do you like finally being out of your cage?” 

He has blood dripping down his nose, but by the time it reaches past his lips, it’s already beginning to coagulate. 

“What, what did you do?”

You don't want to leave; The Salamanders have kept you safe and fed, Ralkan kept you safe and fed. Lev is a complete unknown and the thought of him having you to himself terrifies you no matter how kind he's been to you as of yet.

But Ralkan isn't coming.

"You don't belong to him anymore."

You didn't think you belonged to him to begin with, is Lev seeing something you aren't? Or is it something that's just not there at all, that the insanity of their genefather is making him see?

Ralkan warned you that Night Lords are prone to it.

The madness of the 8th. They loose what little sanity they have, and nothing around them is safe.

Lev grabs you by the ribcage and hauls you into his arms, and the yell In your throat is taken from your lungs much like the rest of your air. The Flamewrought blurs through your vision as a maze of corridors and hidden nooks, before you're soon entrenched in complete and total darkness.

Lev's lips smash against yours, teeth biting and catching your skin. He’s always nippy, like some sort of untrained hound. In a secret thought you suppose he is, in a way.

His body is so much larger than yours it’s so easy for him to cage you in, trapping you against he shoddy metal structure that serves as his cot. You feel his hand trailing up your thigh, pushing the fabric of your clothes up and moving-

“Lev!” 

The door to his quarters slams open, and Lev instinctively goes to reach for his bolter. He stops however, when realizing it's one of his brothers.

“We’ve tried getting you by vox for thirty minutes.” His brother looks right at your barely clothed form and grunts. You're still trying to learn Nostroman, the words are quick and rough, but you're slowing beginning to catch enough that sentences eventually pull together in a way where you can understand the core meaning of them. Most of the time.

“Quit playing around. You’re needed planet side.” He nods in your general direction. “And bring your toy with. She worked the last time. Captain doesn’t want to deal with the commissars himself again.” 

You always work well whenever they need to speak with mortals. You’re easier on the eyes, more convincing. They throw you at baselines and try to have you do work far more suited for a diplomat than a remembrancer, though you suppose they don't care about the difference.

You're a baseline. Do it.

But Lev hates it. They look at you like you’re nothing more than meat, some fruit ripe for the taking. Whenever you return from these sorts of things Lev is oftentimes even more possessive than he usually is, muttering about how you’re far more than talking to pitiful little baselines, to him.

It’s his job to protect you from all of them.

From the moment you first asked if he was ok, he knew you were something special. 

His battle brother kicks something, and grumbles in Nostroman as he leaves the room.

"Are we leaving now?"

You look up at him, his hair falling forward to frame his face slightly. He doesn't answer, and merely decides to lean down and continue wounding your neck with bites as your nails scratch his skin.

"He wasn't even armored. It will take him 30 minutes at least." You whimper as his teeth catch your skin again.

"It'll take you 30 minutes as well,"

Very few people have heard her speak (only her family circle) she prefers to communicate with sign language or simply not speak, especially with her enemies and strangers. Created from a piece of Metal Sonic's nucleus which was fused with Amy's DNA (all this required a great energy from the chaos emeralds, causing them to enter a state of hibernation), later it was implanted in Amy's womb where it developed successfully, but bringing side effects over the months, until Iris was born. Iris does not have many memories of her mother, she was only with her for the first year after she was born, Amy died after being hospitalized all that time (the process was too much for her body).

Since I just saw a pretty cool post with Connor's idle animation, it's time to talk about the nature of these little calibrations he does all the time, because they fascinate me.

I know there's this idea in the fandom that all androids need to recalibrate from time to time, and that they especially need to do this after stress or exertion. If you have ever read any fic with an android from this game that involves sex, you know what kind of stress it usually is.

Personally, I'm not a fan of "humanizing" the machines. I think androids are fun because they are inhuman and their objective reality is completely different from ours. The fact that they are constantly aware of every single process in their bodies is fascinating, isn't it? Since they can understand humans and speak fluently, they have to run several language modules all the time. Plus security modules to prevent hacking. Plus visual recognition, plus all the specialized software for their primary functions.

What I mean is that even your standard domestic android like Kara is an immensely complex machine, running thousands of processes simultaneously just to fold Todd's laundry or talk to him about dinner. Why would she need to recalibrate? To take some of the load off her systems? To do a basic check-in of her body? All my parts are still connected and functioning normally? Something like that?

Meanwhile, Connor is much, much more complex than someone like Kara or even Marcus. All those analysis modules he runs all the time, all those database connections he constantly maintains. On top of that, he has to be faster and more agile than any existing android, and he has to do combat, reconstruction, and pre-construction. His "brain" has to be so fucking fast.

And that's what fascinates me. I think Connor's consciousness and how fast he thinks actually affects how he's connected to his body. His coin, all of his complex recalibration movements are necessary because all of his immense processing power is contained in such a small body. He literally has to slow himself down to just move properly. How cool is that?

I have this idea that Connor is actually much bigger than his body, and his consciousness is only partially uploaded to each of his chassises, and the only time we see him "whole" is during his conversations with Amanda. This may explain why he can upload himself on other bodies and why his calibrations are so elaborate. He needs to do more to connect with his physical body. (I actually drafted a whole fic that explores this idea)

The (liteal) ace in her sleeve is the custom hardware inside her arms: each holds an extremely compact mechanism which stores a coil of blank cards, a printer, and an ejection slot. Combining this with deft hands and misdirection, she is able to stealthily manipulate her or her clients' hands to influence the outcome of the game.  "How could I be hiding a card up my sleeves? They're rolled up, see? Just focus on the game. It's not in my programming to cheat, I assure you." However, even the best scammers get caught sometimes, and when a job goes awry, she is able to deploy her cards as thrown projectiles. With powerful legs and agility matching her sleight-of-hand, she can kick herself away from enemies and launch slicing calling cards at them in a single motion. She relies on evasion and returning to a ranged distance since the modifications to her arms leave them much physically weaker than a typical android. A Theory of Ether Aptitude and Corruption

‘Ether Aptitude’ is a short-hand term for the body’s ability to handle Ether Energy and Material.

There are several compounding factors of Ether Aptitude, being Physical Resistance, Capacitance, Metabolism, and Mental Resistance.

Physical Resistance is just that; Akin to having higher Melanin to resist radiation much like that of the sun. It determines the rate at which you absorb Energy from the surrounding area.

Example: Person A has 25% ER (Ether Resistance), Person B has 50% ER, and Person C has 75% ER.

The Ambient Ether level is 50.

(A) takes 1.5 the amount of Ether, (B) takes a Normal amount of Ether, and (C) takes .75 the amount of Ether.

No adult has below 10% ER. The highest recorded ER is in the low 90%

Metabolism is Simple. It’s the body’s ability to process Etheric Energy and Matter- theoretically someone could get all of their energy requirements from Ether Exposure, but they’d need impossibly high Ether Metabolism to not be corrupted over time due to it. The Higher your EM, the faster your body flushes Ether out of your system.

The Higher Metabolism, the less sedatives one needs.

These Two factors can be easily tested with some minor Blood Work. Your physical health greatly affects these - having a proper diet, doing regular exercise, and having regular check ups will have a good amount of influence on these factors, but be warned; There is just as much of a genetic factor as there is your own personal choices in the matter. 

You can make up for a certain amount of unlucky genetics with proper training and dieting, and in that same way you can also harm your Aptitude by eating nothing but junk food and sweets.

Capacitance is a bit tricky. There is a genetic predisposition towards it, but there’s another, arguably more important Factor - Mass.

The more meat (or Fat) on your bones, the higher capacitance you have. You could make up for poor Resistance or Metabolism with Capacitance, but it’s generally not a good idea - the amount of sedatives required increases exponentially.

Of course being large doesn’t necessarily mean someone is unhealthy, but size does affect agility, dexterity, and physical wellbeing after a point in increasing amounts.

Lucy, Koleda, Corin, and Piper have some of the lowest Capacitance, but extremely high metabolism and resistance. Soukaku, as an Oni, has naturally stupidly high Resistance, metabolism, and capacitance, and Qingyi, as an android, is exempt from traditional Aptitude testing.

Thirens like Ben and the other Belobog Bear-Thiren staff have incredibly high aptitude due to their sheer size.

Mental Resistance is also as it says - one’s ability to resist Stress and Confusion caused by Corruption. This is more about the ‘Willpower’ and mental stability of a person - how aware and certain they are of themselves and the present.

Someone with Anxiety or ADHD will generally suffer worse effects than someone who is Neurotypical, and if there is severe affliction with Mental Faculties, such as Dementia, Schizophrenia, Major Delusions, high points of Mania and Depression, Cognitive Corruption Syndrome, ETC, they will likely suffer Worsened or advanced symptoms of such afflictions permanently.

There is not a very reliable way to measure this portion of Aptitude, and as such it is generally tested during an interviewing process - However, it is important to note that people with E.A.R.S. also generally suffer from severe depression due to their situation which can cause their symptoms to be more aggresive.

Asaba Harumasa, who already has somewhat less aggressive EARS, in combination with his generally lackadaisical attitude and immense willpower means he suffers somewhat less as his disease progresses than others.

Granny Leisha, while suffering CCS, was so determined to protect her ‘Sweetcakes’ that she was able to resist ether better than most anyone else at her age and degree of progress that CCS had gotten to.

What’s interesting is that Mental Resistance also greatly affects how someone Corrupts - at least most of the time, at least. 

 the average person with little in the way of fame or ‘importance’ on the general populace will become a normal Ethereal.

Someone who has a very strong will or ideology will become an Elite.

Someone with a Strong Will, Belief/Faith in something, and is of Great Fame and Importance to a large enough number of people will become a boss Ethereal, On Par with the likes of The Dead End Butcher, Ballet Twins, and Pompey.

Nineveh is unique - an outlier to the rules, and yet an exemplar of them - a nobody who should’ve just become another part of the hoard, but due to the intensity of Hollow Zero’s expansion, her love and wonder about the flowers, her happiness at the freedom from her previous life - and there she is. Incredible in power and strength, a tougher foe than any faced by most any person; Beautiful and deadly.

TSAMS Rainworld AU

Okay so I'm batshit insane about rainworld and I want people who don't know what rainworld is to be able to enjoy this au too, so first a basic explanation of the important background relevant to this au.

Rain World is set in a harsh, decayed world where both the environment and the creatures are constantly fighting to survive. The biggest danger is the rain—massive, torrential storms that destroy anything caught outside. Every creature has to adapt, find shelter, and plan their survival around this constant threat. The world itself is a mix of crumbling ruins left by an ancient civilization and thriving ecosystems where every creature plays its part in the food chain.

The rain cycle isn’t random—it’s actually caused by the Iterators, these massive, god-like machines built by an ancient civilization. They overheat so much while running their endless calculations that they evaporate groundwater during the day. That water builds up in the atmosphere and falls back down as catastrophic storms at night.

This overheating issue ties the Iterators directly to the environment—they’re not just relics of the past but active forces that shape how the entire ecosystem works. Every creature has to live with the results, adapting to the rains and to each other in a world that’s always on the edge of collapse.

And then like for the purpose of the AU there's the four sapient creatures that are important.

The Iterators’ bodies are massive towers that dominate the landscape. These structures house complex machinery and biospheres, creating artificial ecosystems that merge with the natural environment. Many of the game’s regions (like subterranean tunnels, industrial zones, and ruined cities) are remnants of their infrastructure. They’re intelligent beyond comprehension, capable of vast calculations, and exist in isolation, suspended in towers that dominate the skyline. Despite their intelligence, they’re constrained by their programming and trapped in a decayed world they cannot fix. They were built to fix the Big Problem (death is not permanent in this world, everything is trapped in a constant state of reincarnation and the higher-intelligence creatures are aware of this fact).

Slugcats are small, agile creatures (about the same size as the iterator puppets if not larger which are android-type things connected to the iterators with wires) with exceptional adaptability and intelligence. They were originally made to clean pipes in the cities and possibly do maintenance on the iterators too, so they have extremely high levels of intelligence for a non-human creature. They represent the middle ground between sentient animals and the god-like Iterators, capable of navigating the dangers of the ecosystem with cleverness and perseverance. While primarily focused on survival, Slugcats can form bonds and interact meaningfully with other sapient creatures, and form communities among their own. They'll also adopt slugpups that they find in the wild. Also they can be genetically modified.

Scavengers are intelligent, humanoid creatures that live in tight-knit groups. They’ve adapted to trade, cooperate, and communicate with other creatures, especially Slugcats. While they can be allies, they’re also opportunistic and will turn hostile if provoked. Their behaviors show a level of societal organization not seen in other creatures, since if you piss one off you piss them all off.

Lizards are apex predators with varied behaviors and abilities. Some are faster, some can climb, and others are better at camouflage. They’re not mindless—Lizards can be reasoned with and even befriended if fed, becoming loyal allies instead of threats. While their sapience is minimal compared to other creatures, their ability to adapt and form relationships with Slugcats sets them apart from the simpler, purely instinct-driven creatures of the game.

I promise this is all the background you need to understand the AU, now it's AU time.

Earth (Watches the Earth) Solar (Singular Solarity) Crescent (Crescent of Tides - Solar's Moon in TSAMS) Angel (Angel Descending - Solar's Sun in TSAMS) – Angel is essentially brain-dead, having fallen into disrepair due to Crescent unintentionally hogging too much water.

The Iterators remain massive, supercomputers tasked with solving the problem of escaping the cycle of life and death. They require water as a cooling agent, and their overheating causes the rain cycle that defines Rain World’s ecosystem.

Ruin, has two pups: Artemis and Apollo (my names for his moon and sun beloved). They’re still with him in the present, as Ruin is recovering from severe and chronic injuries and will be disabled for his whole fucking life.

Ruin was horribly burned and injured but managed to crawl into Crescent of Tides’ (Solar's Moon in Iterator form) tunnels. Crescent finds him in this damaged state and nurses him back to health—but not without ulterior motives. Crescent is desperate for companionship, especially since he can no longer communicate with his siblings (Solar and Angel).

Crescent’s intentions start out well-meaning—he wants to keep Ruin safe—but quickly spiral into possessiveness. He refuses to let Ruin or his pups leave, believing it’s too dangerous outside. Ruin, still recovering and now with pups to care for, is dependent on Crescent despite desperately wanting his freedom. This creates a tense master-pet dynamic where Crescent is a sentient building and Ruin, a disabled Slugcat, relies on him while resenting his control.

Solar and Earth have a tragic relationship. Once best friends, they are now physically too far apart to see each other, and the satellites they use to communicate are degrading. Messages take longer and longer to send, but they keep trying despite knowing their connection is fading.

In the future, Solar bioengineers a Slugcat messenger (Jack) to deliver communication pearls, but that hasn’t happened yet. For now, Earth copes with her loneliness by bioengineering a lizard companion, Monty, who becomes her only friend.

Sun and Moon were separated, probably by scavengers, and are now on very different paths.

Sun ends up at Solar’s structure, which is still maintained enough to stay safe from the rains. Solar, lonely and in need of company, invites Sun to stay. Sun, unsure of how to find Moon and aware of the dangers outside, decides to stay longer than planned.

Moon, on the other hand, is in a frenzy trying to find Sun. He’s furious at the scavengers who separated them and has been killing them in a rage. His single-minded focus on finding his twin makes him dangerous and unpredictable.

While searching for Sun, Moon meets Lunar, another Slugcat, who has a bonded lizard companion (Firefly). The lizard acts as a guard, trading loyalty for food and shelter. Still unsure what I'm going to do with Lunar and Firefly, but they're probably going to end up as mates bc like. I am god and I want hybrid babies and I can do that. Now Lunar, Moon, and the lizard travel together as a group, with Lunar protected by two powerful allies.

At some point, Moon’s violent reputation among scavengers catches up with him, and Eclipse, an exiled scavenger, attacks him out of spite. However, Eclipse later joins their group and becomes a friendly ally.

The Rot is essentially a form of cancer in Rain World’s universe. In this AU, I’m giving it to Nexus. I might shove like. Another iterator in there with him (Helios/Dark Sun beloved) that he fucking gives cancer to when he dies and the rot takes over his body.

Feel like there should be more exploration with how his memory or whatnot is affected when he’s sent back out. Otherwise Amanda’s warning feels kinda pointless, or at the very least underwhelming.
