Ivory's voice rang sharp and piercing in the stoic silence of the library. It was a special silence: That only witnessed at dawn, dusk and those few, creeping moments in-between. Ivory cared not for the sacredness of the moment, only for how best to shatter it.

"Hello?" She called, paying no heed to the manner in which the eyes of the taxidermy owls in the display cases followed her among the shelves. She was not a paranoid person, you understand; Merely cautious.

Her cries were not met with any tangible reply, only the fluttering of drapes and scampering of mice beneath those of the bookcases which had accumulated the most dust.

Ivory paused, looking upon a collection of volumes: Tolstoy's War and Peace in its original Russian, accompanied by an ancient-looking copy of Great Expectations, Dickens' name emboldened upon the spine and an extended edition on the production and distribution of printers. She yawned, turning from the depressing image before her.

Mere hours from her time, Remus and Karma would congregate here, along with none other than Allistar James. A ritual of theirs, you understand. Torture the boy with the library built in his name.

Huffing, Ivory turned briskly toward the great, hardwood doors. She bypassed them swiftly, her eye snagging upon the window she had propped open on her way in.

My Albus Potter Headcanons

These are my specific Headcanons, they aren't even close to canon. Don't like don't read. If you have a similar head canon you want to share, go ahead.

Allistar "Al or Alli" Regulus Potter

Genderfluid

Albus was given his original name, but around his 3rd year he began questioning his gender identity.

Al spent a few weeks with the Malfoys, and often humored Narcissisa's desire for conversation.

Over time Al looked up to Narcissa because of her elegant nature, and adored her stories from her childhood.

Narcissa often spoke about Regulus, and offered Al some of his things.

Al also struggled with the expectations to their name. It felt like a curse, a false prophecy.

This is why when Al realized she was genderfluid, she wanted to change her name.

Already attached to the nickname Al, they followed more traditional names Allistar

Her relationship with Narcissa and knowledge of Regulus led to her middle name, plus she liked the poeticism of being James SIRIUS and Allistar REGULUS

Their nickname changes depending on how they present, if she feels feminine it's "Alli" and if he feels masc it's "Al" and sometimes it's just Allistar.

"Why... Why 'Icarus'?" Allie could not disguise the betrayal he felt. In his voice, it shone clear as day. He heard Remus' gasping intake of breath and Karma's resigned sigh. Neither affected him as he had feared they might, however, as, in that instant, Allie felt merely indifferent.

It was Remus who, after moments of tense silence, thought to offer an answer.

"We- We felt like we were in free-fall because of bad decisions- That is, things we could have prevented. Modern Icarus'. He became a sort of mentor-"

"More like a 'This is what not to do' guide." But Karma's dry humour fell only on the deaf ears of the dead.

Allie could only nod in reply, his head swimming with forsaken signs and clues to which he pleaded ignorance. Remus' voice rang clear, however, although tinged with a tinny quality, like those shown in old film cannisters.

No amount of Arthur Conan Doyle makes you a detective, Allie.

Accurate to a fault, our Remus.

Allie took a deep, calculated breath. As he inhaled, he thought of Karma's final moments. The peace which resided in the polaroids of this mind truly frightened him, if he was to be honest. But as he exhaled, he allowed his mind to stray. As always, it settled on Karma, the version which Allie found love in. Teenage love, yes. Hardly versatile or kind, but still love.

Allie looked at the sea of people before him, exhaling still. When, finally, he opened his mouth to speak, the words were forgein, a far cry from the smudged ink on his index cards. Yet, it felt marvellously rejuvenating to speak freely.

"Karma Ellis," He began, "Would have fucking hated the lot of you."

He grinned. "I pick hell."

"Be on your way then."

Allie deliberately placed his ankles in Karma's lap. He pretended not to take note of the responding glare as he said, "I just don't get it. Two weeks till school ends and I'm meant to chat about the circulatory system instead of my summer plans?"

Remus agreed with a snort. Although, ironically, they met Allie's eye only over the laminated cover of a biology textbook. They grinned, "If we were any less enthusiastic, we'd be catatonic. Yet, they still teach it."

"You have to admire the resilience." Karma added, idly skimming an dust-coated photo album, the cover of which read, in grandiose, golden letters The Graduating Class of 1984.

Allie gawked over his shoulder, "Anything interesting?" And, when Karma shook his head, "Check the J's."

Sceptic, Karma obeyed.

The pages were glossed and heavy, with sharp corners which drew blood on many an occasion, as they were known to. There was row upon row of students blessed with surnames beginning with J. Karma, in a fortunate change of events, did not have to look for, however, as he stumbled across his victim almost instantly, in just the second row.

"Kenneth James." He read hesitantly. For a moment, when his eyes fell firstly upon the grainy, monochromatic image, Karma's heart started oddly. You see, for the briefest instant, he had seen Allie in his father's young face.

"Yep." Allie attempted a voice of detachment, a neutral tone, "Dear old dad."

Remus sipped idly over a mango-flavoured juice box, their expression glum. Allie tore ceaselessly at his cuticles, irritably chipping the blue-nail polish applied the night previous. Karma's hands danced across the keyboard, oblivious to the irritation of his companions. His inspired frenzy lasted until Allie's head lolled against the papered wall, sunlight threatening to sting his eyes where it bled through the crack in the curtains. Meanwhile, Remus had taken to dissecting an ancient analogue radio they had come across in a drawer. Their bare, folded knees were dusted with wires and screws, as well as larger pieces which they peered at with an intense curiosity.

Karma sucked a breath through his teeth in what he hoped to be a sheepish manner, and Remus' snapped to attention, though Allie remained sleeping soundly.

"How long?" Karma asked, his voice a whisper as to avoid Allie's wrath.

Remus tilted their head and, after a moment, Karma realised they were attempting to read the clockface upon Allie's limp wrist. Fortunately, it faced upward. They squinted at it and, eventually, replied, "Four hours or so. Get much done?"

In reply, Karma only hummed. He noted how Allie drew in on himself in sleep, as if attempting to protect himself from unknown horrors. Thoughtlessly, he laid his hand on Allie's shoulder in a gesture of intended comfort.

Allie jolted awake, recoiling in terror. He panted, blonde strands splayed across his face. But upon taking note of his surroundings he seemed to relax, despite their unfamiliarity.

"Next time," He recommended, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, "Just say my name, huh?"

Jan studied Allistar's lean frame. Clothed in a pair of suit trousers and a polo shirt, he stood out amongst his tracksuit-sporting peers effortlessly. The contrast was dizzying but welcome to Jan's mind.

Himself, he wore the teddy-bear coat Remus had gifted him, alongside scruffy blue jeans. In a previous life, they had resided within his mother's chest of drawers, but Jan had taken it upon himself to purloin and alter as he saw fit.

A golden light, tinged with blue, came through the stained glass windows at the library's rear, bathing Allistar. It served to highlight his majesty through the sharp curve of his jaw and the gorgeous ringlets upon his neck.

Yes, Allistar James was an odd specimen. Jan was not oblivious to why Remus was fascinated with his presence.

"What?" His eyes never left the leather-bound notebook in which he was doodling music notes, "I can feel you staring and it's freaking me out."

Hastily, Jan tore his eyes away. His voice wavered, "Nothing." He told him quickly, "No, nothing. Sorry."

Allistar nodded, "Okay... Why don't you read a book?" Now, he thought it appropriate to glance upward and meet Jan's flushed face, "We're in a library."

"You're not." Jan pointed out, a hesitant note remaining in his voice.

Surprisingly, Allistar shattered the tension with a bubbling laugh. He grinned, "Dyslexia. Good catch, though."
