SO. there are. two ways to assign the prime defenders powers etc. the first way is just, like, categorize their existing powersets within the prt framework, & the second is to give them entirely new abilities based on the way worm works. delightfully, all the powers they Do have work really well for the most part, so even that doesn't require a ton of shuffling.

categorizing their pre-existing powers:

wiwi-- breaker w/ a shaker subclass. neither of them rated very high, but that's already a rare and versatile enough combination!!

dakota-- brute babeeeey!!! brute/mover its so straightforward. hell yeah babey. i don't know what he'll end up looking like post-heart removal & stuff but my guess is that'll end up looking more like a mover/striker.

vyncent-- now THIS one gave me trouble. i... hm. to say this without talking about stuff that i don't think has come up much already, (hey!! you're at that clockblocker pov! directly related to what flechette says!) i'd call him a grab-bag cape, irt the greats at least. post-greats-- again, i don't know what his powerset will look like after this arc! but if he's going all in w/ the fire magic, that would for sure be some striker shit! :]]]

wiwi still breaker for sure, maybe breaker-master, maybe master-stranger. yknow. powers are fluid, the prt categories are pretty rigid. i... don't know. enough about his situation yet to be clearer than that vague idea yet-- i really like the idea of him just. ditching his body & using a noncorporeal form but he still has to keep an eye on his body i think that's great. the noncorporeal form would b able to change its visibility but still b limited by proximity to the body. & fluctuating energy shit powered by fluctuating amounts of recent-death in the area, maybe probably also limited in that it's only accessible in his breaker form.... also i think u will appreciate this style note from the [UNNAMED PARAHUMANS TTRPG] i'm referencing a lot here.

dakota--in this situation he probably would not. have that mechanical heart and shit. he' would still be a mover/thinker-- thinker rating is for faster mental processing + senses imminent pain for the people in his immediate vicinity. not danger, just pain; it immediately registers ambiently & can be generally traced back to whoever it is. no he can't turn it off ever, it manifests as feeling a similar level of pain, yes it works on himself. + mover-- he can fucking fly. no super strength, just very fast flight & the general "won't splat himself flying into something" capabilities, which meshes well w/ the faster processing & reflexes. i'm split on how exactly this would work mechanically but i will NOT go into that now. i am also not going into the 15k discussion in my brain on why dakota 'notoriously bad at thinking about things' cole would be a thinker but u gotta trust the process ok??

vyncent-- trump!!!! somehow this is the only straightforward one to me? he can copy powers at the full strength or ability level of the original for an unspecified amount of time that's usually 1-30 minutes by touching the cape. crucially, he doesn't have any edge on how to use these powers + can easily misuse or become extremely overwhelmed by them. he's easily the most powerful out of the three of them <33

WHICH. THE WAY THIS RELATES. BACK ON TOPIC NOW. to DAKOTA . assuming his trigger event is still he and katori falling off the building I think it's AWESOME that his powers would manifest as FLIGHT for one. and the fucking. pain sense thing. fuck me up. dakota extreme hero complex cole would be so fucked up by a power where he ambiently senses pain from the people around him at all times and cannot turn it off. AAAASHE ASHE ASHE IM SOOO SO GLAD YOU INCLUDED ASHE IN THIS I miss him.so much every day. from what I know so far master involves having/making/controlling some sort of minion (cannot think of a better word than that rn) AND I THINK THATS REALLYYYY perfect for ashe. i assume he would actually work pretty closely to canon in that his limitation would be the book? or if he doesn't have the book maybe his limitation would be a) having only a few different types of things he could summon (the big hand, the water fairy, duck etc) and/or b) only being able to control them.for a short amount of time after they're summoned so he has to be quick about dismissing them. can't keep the demon hand around for too long or it might start picking things up and throwing them at random. putting teammates in danger bc he can't control it anymore etc etc. alsooooooo in clockblocker pov they VERY briefly mentioned the possibility of having secondary trigger events (?!!!!?!?!) and you know I locked onto that SO FUCKING HARD. ashe being born with powers and then his secondary trigger event being his mom's death <3 im.NOT even going to attempt to talk about how the trickster would work in worm world/if it would even exist in this setting bc i don't know enough about the types of powers and things yet..but just know. calming down for 2 seconds the cinematography was great this episode and the pacing was a definite improvement from ep1, which filoni also directed! this played into his directing strengths a lot better w the action and emotion. i won't lie i'm still not sold on the show as a whole i do think eps 1-3 were okay i guess, 4 was a step up and 5 is like. wow ok go girl. also the way they used anivader in this episode made me rlly sad for the kenobi show bc that show should've been smthn like this, using him as a vision for obi-wan's development instead of the villain of the show bc thats a tired fight but hey! this is abt ahsoka not kenobi i digress. SPEAKING OF loved how it was actually ABOUT the titular character for once. anyway. going insane. i don't have too much faith the show can keep this up but i'll be happy if it can reach smthn close to this as it goes on

joan was handled a lot better but it sucks that her and jfk NEVER talked abt their relationship again. it's all about her and abe/confucious now and i hate it. i liked her going back to her indie girl roots but the og joan would NEVER accept that whole "i'll pretend to date you if you pay for my film festival" shit. she had more class than that. it feels like she's doing that thing they did in z-o-m-b-i-e-s where s2 she thinks she belongs with harriet and jfk but now she thinks she's a bleacher creature... idk it's weird.... bleacher creatures were kinda cool tho :) not topher.

i liked jfk being the mc actually, it was refreshing. i found the christian arc really fitting especially at the end where they tied it together as him being a kennedy. i didn't like him dating harriet again and i also didn't like the jfabe hints ???? that scares me... but the dick pic thing was funny,, also the fact that he's just like,, one of the guys now?? him and confucius and abe being buds. just dudes being dudes.

abe was SO much more in character this season. i didn't particularly like the bloody mary episode but the whole "i found a girl and she's nerdy like me and she's cute and funny but she wants to get rid of joan" thing is okay i guess. it really feeds back into s1 when he abandoned ghandi for cleo. overall he was good but he was VERY hypersexual this season and it was just awkward to watch.

cleo acted... KIND of like herself?? i liked the slim snowsuit thing and the supporting frida because she got free stuff but that's like it. i still wish her and frida had more setup in s2 but they handled it well this season at least. them being the christian icons was funny i guess but i seriously want cleo to accidentally use frida and manipulate her power at some point and then feel guilt. that's the ONLY reason cleo should ever feel guilty for anything in this show.

frida was chill tbh, not much to say abt her. the whole fish pointing, painting stuff for cleo, only snorkeling to make her happy was sososososo cute </33 i want more stuff like that :")

harriet is terrible character writing. her only trait is that she's smart and loyal, but she cheats on confucius. with eye sex. I HATE THE EYE SEX THING. WHY WAS IT NECESSARY. and then she goes back to confucius as soon as she thinks he's available just because she thinks he likes her. WHAT. AND THEN SHE'S MAD ??? i feel like she's only there to be joan's friend and to be with frida at the beginning of s1... WHY!!!!! IS JFK!!!!! DATING HER !!!!! STILL !!!! confucius is a good character though imho. he was a good person this season and his actions actually made sense with his motivations. he's a huge people pleaser and because of that he wants validation in points (ep1) and doesn't wanna tell harriet he's dating joan. he wants to keep everyone happy and he's so sweet tbh he's growing on me.

I try to not feel embarrassed that the answer is yeah bc like I think if other ppl reread their own work it would make sense!!!! Like I would not judge at all and honestly co-sign rereading ur own shit. I literally tell ppl that the reason I write is bc like. It’s basically the chance to craft your own perfectly tailored special interest to share with others. So like. Why wouldn’t I like it? (And this was especially true when I was trying to write original stuff which is why it’s so frustrating I never finish anything. But also a little true now too. This whole weird cloneverse was the product of my dumb thought experiment “what if the clones were people who had the capacity to be just as tragic as Jace). It’s got everything I like in it. I try to tell myself anyway. In practice it’s like. Argh.I kinda go through periods where I like. And this is usually after I JUST posted. Wanna do other things but end up distracting myself by rereading the thing I just made over and over. And then I forget it exists and often in my mind it’s like. Oh I don’t wanna read that i think bc I have residual feelings of like. Idk embarrassment I guess? Like I convince myself it’s old and probably bad but sometimes when I’m glancing at old things I write for. Refresher purposes (usually on cloneverse lol) I end up getting suckered back into rereading it like oh hey is this actually. Good?

I try so hard to be a planner bc I’m so frustrated by my pantser process. Like. Idk i tend to just ride momentum but without foresight you end up going in directions that can be kinda formless and completely wrong and idk. I have such hard time finishing things b/c of this i think. But when I try to plan I’m also so bad at it i don’t think I’ve ever finished a real and true outline before I start. I want to be the kind of person that has clean outlines but. Idk. So by default I guess I’m a plantser bc I do have docs full of notes but my notes are always super messy and like. as for elizabeth, she was made by nina! nina was originally my idea for a doll i want in real life(but she had blonde hair in my mind), and then i made her in secondlife and she ended up looking the way she does, then i made eliza out of prims in secondlife and eventually in blender.. i have a blog about them where i write from ninas perspective sometimes but its not so great or active. i would say eliza is not sentient and doesn't move, sometimes in my sl gifs she does but thats mostly because it looks fun! meatloaf would be cool but i think the closest that comes to her consistency is like a cloned or 3d printed steak. maybe i will change these facts later but this is the way i look at it for now..

they also run bps!!! their triplet seth and davis (intruder six and puppet) do the actual investigations, mabel handles most of the online shit, and cain is just the main leader. seth and davis also both live (davis bc fuck you, and seth bc. well DCFVGBHN) but ALS with extreme emotional baggage. seth being the obvious one because he's an alternate, but davis has a copy of him following him everywhere (though he actually is pretty harmless) and has to deal with the backlash of leaving seth at the house they were investigating.

dave still runs mandelatech, but it's mostly a hotspot for him to like. gain targets and stuff. adam and eve (yeah i call her eve in this au bc. evil ig DCFVGBHN) actually do the stealing of kids together as a tag team. they are almost never away from each other.

and yeah, we got lieutenant gabriel here too. however, he's just thatcher without the evil demon clone harassinh him. he still has the dead coworker (maria), however he wasn't as close to her as thatcher was to ruth in canon.

so our rick goes on a revenge spree. he invents his own portal gun - apparently every other rick borrows their portal gun from prime who's the only one who built it himself. besides Our rick. and starts tracking prime down killing a bunch of other ricks in the process. so many in fact that those remaining build. the citadel of ricks. stay with me. it's like. idk a space station something where a bunch of ricks and their morties live and or stop by to mind their business. whatever. so this haunt for rick prime and killing himself over and over is what eventually gets our rick, who was gonna choose his family and human connections over science and adventure, to be as jaded and nihilistic and Alcoholic as every other rick before and after him. f in the chats for my man

7th. just in case you haven’t known 3.3 first half will have scara and itto while second half will have ei and ayato.

8th. also another thing i forgot. it seems like scara’s battlesuit, the large mecha seems to be sentient in some form or maybe it’s controlled by dottore cuz towards the end scara was standing against the mecha as if he was about to fight it. honestly what’s up with the raidens and their sentient puppet mechas🙄🙄

edit i realize i went on a mostly irrelevant tangent bc of my posts where i said ive always disliked the dsmp fandom, but if you were wondering Solely because of the allegations, no. stanning a real person always comes at a risk and while it sucks when things go awry i do think i'm normal Enough about my parasocial behaviors that i'll be fine mentally regardless of the outcome and will leave if i must. ok now onto the rest of the post

oh i'm ok discussing the community, just not like. the details of the allegations.

and the answer is: not particularly. the dsmp fandom is a pretty unique case, not in terms of content (i dont wanna sound like the kinda person who thinks minecraft rp is new) but in terms of community.

this is not to say that other fandoms surrounding real people are better, much less perfect, but they're definitely a more comfortable thing for me.

for one, i've seen a lot of people having the dsmp as a "baby's first fandom" sort of moment. i think this is because its something really popular that is harder to enjoy passively - while you can watch stranger things with your family and get the whole experience just by watching the show, with the dsmp you need to keep up with cc twitter pages and stuff to be fully in-the-loop, and this leads into fandom pretty easily. this means you have a lot of people going around getting into their very first discourse All At Once. and people who get Really attached to one thing and feel lost when suddenly the fandom they literally learned to draw/write/etc for goes quiet.

for two, the dsmp is a category that is broad as hell. its not like i watch all the ccs. i think that would probably make my brain melt from my ears. but when you have a category that is Broad As Johnny Bravo's Shoulders, its more like a million little fandoms than one big one, and they all overlap but don't really Share A Space. u can like someone's tubbo fanart and then see in their bio that they like, have a really strong vendetta against quackity or something. or vice versa. you also have a lot of shit to keep up with, which is simply too much for me. i will continue just having like. three dudes to think abt from now on rather than 30

thirdly, the thing Above about there being so many ccs does make the fandom more Baffling for everybody, and the community seemed to repeatedly add to that. i am not going to be like "hari and every popular blogger is evil! what about people who ARENT popular >:(" bc that is downright ridiculous, but think abt stuff like duo names, oddly specific tags, referring to ppl solely by nicknames, spreading conversation back and forth between multiple social media sites rather than just tumblr, etc - all of those things had a purpose and were perfectly fine (anyone who tells you that you must refer to your friends by username only just to make Their online experience more accessible is an idiot) but they did make things tricky for newcomers. friend groups aren't inherently cliques, but some of the ppl ive seen claiming that its "super easy to pop in and join no problem!" are the Exact folks ive seen unintentionally exclude others. again, not a moral failing, just a consequence of What Its Like in the fandom, especially to people who havent been around forever. and if you don't like a popular blogger youre kinda fucked bc they're everywhere- like can u imagine if there were Multiple clones of isa in the jse fandom, and they were like. your Only window into updates and shit etc etc? not to compare isa to anybody else. sorry to anybody who feels like theyre being compared to isa even if u dont know who that is. sorry

there's also an age difference in the fanbase And in the content creators. some of my favorite fic writers in the jse fandom are young, but some are also literally in their 30s with children and jobs. meanwhile a significant number of ppl in the dsmp fanbase making art n posting hot takes n stuff are under 17. particularly with tommy, ranboo, etc. and when so many of the streamers themselves are young, it can cause Problems - a lot of the adult ccs are at my college level, peak time for stupid behavior. not to mention,,, when you look at the jse/markiplier fandoms and see a fan being really sexual, its just like, "oh, maybe this is a little weird, but relatively harmless as long as they aren't being invasive about it." when you look into the fandom of a youtuber who isn't even old enough to vote yet, and see a fan being really sexual, it's more of a "holy shit that is predatory and fucking disgusting" moment.

^ continuing off of that, or at least the cc ages, their fame skyrocketed after a much shorter time than a lot of other creators. they did not have a normal adjustment period to being fucking everywhere. i'm not even one of them, and i didn't have a normal adjustment period to seeing them everywhere. older ccs with more professional stuff going on don't make the same mistakes as the newer folks. they know when to step away, too - as much as i wish jack was back on tumblr due to the theory content here, i also get why he's gone and understand that the environment would be Shaken tf up by his return.

having them be such a trend also meant that while the fandom is big, the anti-fandom is just as prevalent. in the jse fandom we have blue and their pals (yikes!), as well as a group of people that have generally negative feelings towards sean but are normal about it. we do not have entire communities dedicated to stalking him for "crit" and the amount of people speculating on his personal relationships have pretty much dwindled. we don't have people casually dropping his address and information about his family every time they meme about him. i can talk about watching jack and mark around ppl ive never met without starting off with a disclaimer! in fact, i frequently have to do the opposite with jack and mark, because their discourse is so Out Of Sight from the majority these days that some people just fucking ignore their friendship with pdp or past transmisogynistic jokes or etc etc etc. literally see ppl calling them "unproblematic kings!" every 2 seconds and gotta be like what the Fuck are you talking about

u also have the fact that the dsmp fandom became Such an ordeal during a really shitty time of fandom discourse in general. while people arent like going batshit insane over steven universe or whatever so much anymore, the moral arguments about fiction right now are hell on earth. it is pedophilia to watch cartoons and abuse apologism to think a character who was mean one time is interesting and if you are personally attached to a character then your feelings can just override canon in theory discussions. literally the worst time for anyone to be in a fandom regarding very morally/politically funky roleplay. as evidence i present whomever the fuck thought up the idea of posting proship discourse on r/dwt2

lastly i am far more invested in the egos as far as hyperfixating goes rather than the actual creators (as much as i love them) and would have zero problem just taking anti and making him My Own Guy (considering ive already basically done that) in the case that jack. idk. killed someone and was promptly cancelled on twitter for murder.

so yeah no. my deepseated hatred of the fandom in general (despite my love for much of the art and the wonderful people ive met) does not extend to all real person fandoms

Headcanon A:  realistic

For all his attachment problems hes actually pretty good at coming to terms with loosing patients, in terms of self-blame and feelings of failure. He's furious about under-resourcing, and if he genuinely fucks up he definitely takes accountability for it (and often takes it hard), but for the most part he views working with and around death as part of a medic's responsibilities. Failure to save someone or even deaths related to triage decisions he makes don't make him a bad medic, but if he let himself wallow and it affected his other patients or even his performance, he would be failing as a medic, which is unacceptable.

He already misses so many people, pulled away by death or postings across the galaxy, and it feels like a chunk gets carved out of them for each one, so why not let them take a part of him to keep with them wherever they go, if it's going to hurt so bad anyway?

- Webby has a major identity crisis because of the clone thing, that’s her main plot this season. She’s trying to figure out who she is whilst the entire world is continuously comparing her to Scrooge.

- BIG emphasis on family vs biology.

- If in writing this s4 i can’t make any changes to the previous seasons then i don’t think i can get rid of the dad thing bc like, it’d be weird if they made a big deal abt her calling scrooge dad and then nerfed it next season, like as a viewer i’d find that weird, so we’re keeping that. With the extension of her, at some point, starting to call Beakley mum

- Maybe our big “twist” this season is that webby isn’t related to scrooge, but she still calls him dad in the end

- Huey is ALSO having an identity crisis! We’re playing with the fact that his arch didnt get revolved last season. He’s always been the smart one out of his brothers, but now Louie is shaping up to be a successful business person and Dewey is gonna be a pilot, and Huey has no idea what he’s doing with his life.

- May and june are with donald and daisy on their like cruise thing the whole season, and appear once per episode via a zoom call on an ipad. Donald and daisy appear sometimes too. Their whole running bit is that they’re convinced they’re now leading a normal life but it becomes increasingly obvious they’re just as weird as donald (affectionate). The four of them appear in person in the season finale

- We will not be introducing any new characters for no reason I swear to god. The only new character i’m even CONSIDERING introducing is Morgana and that’s it. This season will have a much heavier focus on our actual main characters. Aside from maybe morgana the only “new” characters would be mentioned, like an adult talking about their parents or showing a picture

- Beakley officially retires this season (not immediately, a couple episodes in, we get an ep about it)

- She also feels very guilty about all the lying so in an effort to stop doing that she has now flipped to the opposite end of the spectrum - brutal honesty. She speaks her mind 100% of the time and she rarley has nice things to say. You are never more than 5 minutes away from beakley roasting the shit out of you because that was just on her mind

- For simplicity’s sake she never had any kids before webby, that was a complete lie and the “Mrs” thing was an alias. I don’t want to spend time introducing three new characters, i wanna focus on our existing ones.

- For the first episode or two she is intentionalyl side lined, and then we get an ep more focused on her which shows she not only feels incredibly guilty abt the events of last season, but she also feels liek she doesn’t have a place in the family and is just there bc she’s the housekeeper. This episode would end with her finally officially retiring and staying in the manor, showing that she’s there because she’s family, not because she’s staff.

- Once retired we also get an episode that just shows beakley going stir crazy bc she’s bad at being retired lol

- An episode about sccrooge and beakley bonding! Scrooge sees webby and her friends together, or maybe they ask him who his best friend is and he’s like ah me and beakley! But then realises they haven't been as close in the past few years and whisks her off on a good ol mcduck and 22 adventure

- Hdlw sibling content. We are getting a reference to them seeing eachother as siblings like it or not. Maybe it happens bc webby goes “Hey, technically i’m your cousin” and the boys go “uh, no. you’re our sister, end of”

- W e b l e n a. Not clickbait. We resolve lena’s outburst at may and june from last adventure, we see her and violet talking and violets like “you dont see webby as your sister. You’’re very gay for her”

- LP being smart. We get some of that. We see his emotional maturity.

- Louie and dewey kinda take a backseat this season. They get some episodes and they’re, yk, there for a lot of them as supporting characters but their main archs are mainly resolved, so they mainly get some mini stuff this season

- Our big bad this season is probably negaduck bc like i said im not introducing a new villain

- I do think it’d be kinda cool to have a fucked up heron who clawed her way out of non existance and is in this fucked up glitched half alive state, who’s only purpose and thoughts are to destroy mcduck and 22

- Also at least one flashback episode, maybe a mothers day special that has the kids bonding with della and beakley in the present, and keeps having flashbacks to della and bealey having an adenture in the past

- The boys get a bonding ep with scrooge to show he still values them even though webby is his “”real kid””

a/n: apparently you guys like it when i write for this bastard so here we are, another crosshair fic, set pre-anaxes.

“where am i being sent this time, commander?” as a republic pilot of your caliber, you were rotated through various battalions to serve as your superior officers deemed fit. the jumping around kept you on your toes and gave you chances to show off while protecting the men you came to know as friends. your latest assignment was coming to an end, which meant another battalion and another battlefront.

you wouldn’t let any of the other battalions hear you say this, but you had found a favorite in the 104th. general koon was vocal with his devotion to his battalion and silently powerful on the battlefield, and his sage advice was always heeded by trooper and natborn officer alike.

the wolfpack was one of the tightest-knit battalions you’ve worked with thus far, and they brought you into their fold with almost alarming speed. you’d even played sabaac with the “abrasive” commander wolffe several months back when your ship went down and you were stuck in the medbay for a week.

wolffe sighed before falling into step with you on your way to the hangar. he knew you weren’t going to like what he was about to say, but it wasn’t like he gave the order. if he had it his way, he would call dibs on your skill and keep you as a permanent wolfpack pilot, but that was above his rank. you were a good friend and his brothers enjoyed your company, and you proved time and time again to genuinely care about him and his brothers as individuals... and you also smuggled him sweet rolls and the candies you knew he favored, but that’s neither here nor there.

your skin prickled when his long sigh reached your ears. “why do i get the feeling i’m not gonna like you as much after this?” you turned to squint suspiciously at wolffe, the dread building.

“because you’re probably not going to. cody sent me the details of your next assignment, it’s with 99.” you’d ranted to him plenty on how bothersome you found clone force 99 — well, how bothersome you found the sniper of clone force 99 to be. you got along swell with the other three, but it was something about their sniper that rubbed you the wrong way.

it could be the way he leaves his chewed toothpicks everywhere (especially around the bedroll you set up when you stay with them on their ship).

there’s also his cocky attitude and the snobbish remarks thrown your way at any given moment. he questions your abilities daily despite plenty of evidence contradicting his doubts.

now that you’re thinking about it, your distaste for the man derives largely from the way he’s constantly interrupting you as if he knows everything you’re about to say. it doesn’t matter to you that he’s right every single time, it’s infuriating all the same.

the one solace you had was that you seemed to be uncannily able to do the same to him. watching him sputter with indignation every time you cut him off was oddly satisfying, but you tried to not put too much stock into how much you enjoyed it.

wolffe expected your anguished groan and the roll of your eyes, and he was not disappointed when they happened right on schedule.”how much longer do i have with you guys?” you hoped you would get a healthy dose of wolfpack to last you throughout your mission with clone force 99, but there was no telling with the reputation the gar had with unpredictability.

“another week. you’ll be meeting them on coruscant when we arrive and promptly leave for the assignment. i requested your ship be kept with us in the interim, i know how shifty you think the nattie mechanics are.” he nudged you with a plastoid elbow in jest. your grin returned when he told you that the ‘pack would be protecting your metallic baby while you were gone.

one of the many qualities you appreciate about wolffe was his protectiveness. you were one of the few that did everything possible to keep from pushing his buttons because you could tell how anxious it made him, and he showed his appreciation for that in little ways that add up.

the times he traded rations around with his brothers so he could give you your favorite kind (it was a tense competition for the best flavored cardboard they gave during missions that the guys would let you occasionally win).

this time, he remembered how the coruscant mechanic detail ruined the hyperdrive in your ship when they were supposed to be fixing your thrusters, and promptly decided to keep your ship where you knew it would be safe.

the hallway you’re walking down forks, and your immediate choice is to head to the hangar and find something to fix on your ship. no matter how pristine you try to keep it, there’s always something to tweak, that’s just how ships work. the other direction would take you towards the mess hall, where wolffe was headed.

wolffe notices you suddenly not next to him and backtracks, grabbing you lightly by the arm and turning you around. “you can’t tell me you’ve eaten already and not lie to me, senaar’ika.”

yes he used your nickname — which he didn’t do often —but that didn’t mean that you had to go with him. “i’m not hungry, i’ll head there later.” as if to prove him right, your body rebels against you. your stomach lets out a very audible growl that could have been heard from ryloth, let alone from a foot away.

“you were saying?” the smirk on wolffe’s face would have been slapped off if the commander weren’t dragging you to the mess already, your legs struggling for a moment to keep up. the two of you resume the same pace you had earlier, letting your company and the familiarity of the cruiser’s layout keep you from dwelling on your next assignment.

your blissful week in hyperspace with the wolfpack was drawing to a close. boost could tell by the tension in your shoulders and the way you enthusiastically threw yourself into his antics that you weren’t looking forward to leaving them behind. his sympathy dwindled, however, when you told him why, your friend now cackling at your demise.

“don’t be an ass, boost!” you swat his shoulder with a groan. he wouldn’t feel it anyway, he was kitted up, head to toe covered in plastoid. “you try being around the cannibal toothpick for longer than five minutes and see how you feel!”

as predicted, he didn’t stop laughing. “it humbles you, senaar. makes our stench a bit more bearable when you come back!” he pulls you into a hug, patting your cheek gently as you both pulled away. “you’ll be fine, you always are.”

this is what you’re going to miss most about the ‘pack while you’re gone. the warm feeling in your gut, the laughter. it makes you antsy to come back to your boys when the mission is done.

you turn away and set your eyes on the modified omnicron and its patrons waiting for you. “next time i see you, it better be with a decent haircut!” he scoffs in play offense and flips you the bird, laughing when you give him a matching one behind your back.

it’s always been easy to spot wrecker’s hulking form no matter where you were, and it rang true today. he was the first to spot your approach and dropped the detached panel of the marauder he was holding with a reverberating clang. you had only a moment to brace yourself for the incoming embrace from the overeager soldier before he was in your space, smile taking over his face.

“senaar! it’s good to see you!” he spun you around a time or two to make sure you knew how excited he was. it made your head spin a little, but it was nowhere near the worst thing that could happen.

“it’s good to see you too, wreck.” his grin was wide and his laughter loud, everything just as it should be with him.

he didn’t put you down. instead, he carried you back to the marauder like a sack of meiloorun and deposited you on top of a munitions crate with a slight amount of regard for your body. you scooted around the crate to where you were facing tech, the genius rolling out from under the marauder with grease smeared on his face. “if you’re done manhandling our pilot, your assistance is still needed.” tech’s near-constant state of annoyed resignation with his surroundings never failed to make you smile.

tech gives you a small wave before resuming his work. you had nothing to do until the ship was back in flyable conditions, but you weren’t permitted to leave the base because of how soon the guys will be ready to leave. all you could do was sit and wait until everything was ready to go. yipee.

“look what the—“

“—tooka dragged in.”

fuck. of course you couldn’t have a few moment’s peace before the ship was repaired.

there he was, the menace himself. crosshair was the bane of your very existence when assigned to clone force 99. he always has something to say to you, always has to interrupt you no matter what you say and it gives you a funky feeling in your stomach that goes away when he stops talking.

“very original, douchebag. you get your insults—“

“from bubblepop wrappers. funny, i found them on your mother’s floor last week—“

you were poised to cut him off once more when a frustrated yell interrupted you. “shut it!” hunter’s exasperated shout came from inside the ship. “it’s been two minutes, surely you both can save it for later.”

you give him an apologetic look before keeping your mouth shut, shrugging off the weird feeling in your stomach as guilt. hunter didn’t deserve the nonsense, he was just trying his best to keep everyone alive and more or less sane. it was a herculean effort when working with crosshair, but you’re willing to at least attempt civility (unless you’re provoked).

you were this close to pulling your hair out. every time you tried to give some sort of input for planning the mission, fucking crosshair interrupts you and in one swoop, gets the credit for your ideas.

with you behind the controls of the marauder, it’s freed tech’s time to be devoted to things other than flying. several weapons modifications, fixing busted commlinks, even the air filtration system were soon under his scrutinizing eyes and operating better than they had since your last mission with them.

during the flight, you kept mostly to yourself in the cockpit. wrecker (with gonky in tow) was always quick to keep you company, sparking up conversation about previous missions and things you had missed since your last visit. it was refreshing to be around him; his reverberating optimism and empowering presence reminded you of the ‘pack and he never failed to bring a smile to your face.

this time, however, he seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. he was antsy and visibly tense, and it worried you. you spun the pilot’s chair around to meet his eyes. “everything alright, big guy?”

wrecker wanted to tell you what was on his mind, but he worried that if he spoke the thoughts into existence, he would lose the only friend he had. he loved his brothers, but they were brothers. friends were a different category and that category consisted of you.

but when you rested a hand on his knee and looked at him with such understanding, he couldn’t stop himself even if he tried.

“i know crosshair’s hard on ya,” he paused to read your face to see if he should keep going. you weren’t showing any outward disgust at his words, so he continued. “but he ain’t always like that.”

you’re confused about where this came from. the closest that the others came to talking about your relationship with crosshair were the times hunter would have you both compromise on being less vicious to each other during group conversations. tech leaned towards indifference because to him, your relationship with crosshair was just that: yours. he didn’t see any issue with it as long as it didn’t inhibit the team from getting things done.

“when we were cadets, cross was the first one to stand up for me if any regs were mean to me. then when they started punching him, because that’s what they always did, i would get ‘em off him.” his head hung down, keeping his eyes to his boots, forearms resting on muscular thighs.

“after this,” wrecker looked back up and spun a finger around his facial scar and cloudy eye, “i didn’t talk to them for days. felt like a failure because i was the one who nearly botched the mission.” you had never asked about how wrecker lost his eye or got the webbed scar along the side of his face, figured it was a sensitive subject and your guess was right. him telling you about the incident spoke to how much he trusted you, and it gave you a warm feeling in your chest.

he took your silence as a cue to continue. “used too many bombs for the size of the building and didn’t get far enough away. the fire got me and i could do nothing but scream. if it weren’t for cross telling hunter and tech where i was, i wouldn’t be here.”

he sighed heavily before continuing. a weight on his shoulders that he didn’t realize was there has been lifting away the more he talked, and it was a relief. “we protect each other, that’s what brothers do. i think that’s what friends do too, since you do it when you’re with us.”

you reached for one of his tremoring hands with both of yours, smoothing the skin on the back. he was almost done, you could tell, but he also seemed to be losing his nerve. “it’s okay wrecker, say what you need to say. friends listen to each other when one of them is sad, so if you want me to, i can listen as long as you need me.”

wrecker’s eyes were glistening as he gave you a sad smile. “i know cross makes it hard, but don’t give up on him. he needs a friend more than any of us.”

could you feel worse? you didn’t think so thirty seconds ago, but the galaxy had other plans. the fact you failed to realize how wrecker was clearly impacted by the constant back and forth hurt you. reflecting on the very clear signs only drove the guilt deeper; the way he’d awkwardly shift his weight from one foot to another when around the bickering, how he tried to mediate when it was just the three of you… it made you feel like a bad friend despite the way he reiterated how good of a friend you were.

“thank you for telling me how you felt. it’s brave to be so open with your emotions like that, especially when you don’t know what to expect.” he gives you the first genuine smile he’s had since the conversation began. “i won’t give up on him, wreck. i promise.”

one massive hug later and wrecker’s back to his exuberant self, assured with your words and sincerity that things will be different between you and his brother.

the promise you made wrecker was much easier said than done. when crosshair would begin to make a snide remark, the urge you had to finish it was insurmountable. you didn’t know why, but some other force continued to compel you to be snarky right back to him every time. there was a lump in your throat and a rock in your stomach that wouldn’t let you do anything but complete his sentence, and would go away the second you finish.

afterwards you would see wrecker’s eyes shift a little, a painful reminder of the promise you were doing a terrible job at keeping.

it took you hours after one of the prolific bickering matches to think of an idea to counteract your uncontrollable comebacks. the plan was simple but highly unexpected, which you hoped would yield the result you’re wanting.

your new plan? compliment him. compliment him and see what he says in return; if he’s so bent on finishing your sentences for you, then maybe finishing positive ones will throw him off his game.

now you weren’t going to be insincere; that would ruin your plan and make you look like a bitch at the same time. when you see him do something good, you’ll say something about it and leave it be. a social experiment, if you will.

you had time for this “experiment” was because the powers that be determined that you would be an indefinite asset to them on their missions. it wasn’t like you’d already spent two painfully long weeks with them, or have a ship of your own to fly, or a battalion that’s all but claimed you as one of their own. nope, none of those things seemed to matter because here you are approaching week three with the bad batch.

but to your chagrin, no matter what you’re saying, even the times where you recognize crosshair’s talent for what it is — damned good, he still takes the words right out of your mouth.

“nine klicks, that’s a badass shot—“

“—if i’ve ever seen one.”

despite his concealed face, you knew his eyes nearly shot straight through his helmet’s hud. you were almost as confused as he was (how did he say that word for word?) but his face was priceless. “was that a—“

“compliment? yeah. still gotta call talent when—“

“i see it, even if it’s yours.”

it was slightly underhanded but a vast improvement from the routine, and wrecker couldn’t find it in him to be upset about it. the compliment was still plenty to throw crosshair for a loop that rivaled the wildest amusement park ride.

that day had planted the seed of a new pattern of conversation between the two of you. there were still plenty of sassy comments (because this is still crosshair we’re talking about), but they were sprinkled among genuine compliments.

your experiment has been met with mixed results thus far. wrecker’s been elated with the uptick in positivity, which was goal one of why you were putting in effort to be nice, and a very disgruntled and confused crosshair made for the completion of goal two. this also reaped the benefits of an amused sergeant and a very curious tech.

the brainiac was very quick to (partly) peg your experiment as exactly what it was: a ploy to mess with crosshair. despite being confident in this knowledge, he still wanted to ask you questions about it. curiosity killed the tooka, after all.

“so senaar,” he began as he plopped into the copilot’s chair next to you, “what’s with the change of heart with cross?”

you knew it would raise eyebrows and you were prepared for his probing. you’d talk the whole trip about the change but you weren’t going to bring wrecker’s name into it because he trusted you not to. that’s not something you take lightly. “just figured it would be a nice change of pace. the ship was always really tense and the bickering made everyone moody, so i figured why not be nice and still get to fuck with him?”

tech nodded and hummed in understanding, typing something into the datapad he held in his hands. your information was valuable, but there was more to know about the situation.

he’d asked cross on other occasions why he always bickered with you and how he always knew what you were saying, and his answer was vague: a feeling in his gut always told him what to say and when. it wasn’t something cross could turn off or else he would — the constant bickering was exhausting and he didn’t like the venom in your voice when you’d talk shit to him. but, he insisted, if he tried to control the words, it would cause him abdomen pain that rivaled multiple blaster shots to the gut.

“one more thing, senaar,” tech adjusts his goggles before continuing to type on his datapad. “how do you know what to say to interrupt crosshair? is it from knowing him for a long time, or-“

“i don’t know what it is, all i know is that the words just happen on their own. i can’t stop them, believe me i’ve tried. but it hurts like crazy. they just show up in my mind and come out of my mouth with no regard for everything else.”

the brunet’s eyebrows furrow in confusion. that’s almost exactly how cross described his own feeling, right down to being unable to stop it once the other person starts talking. more research needs to be done on this immediately, he thinks to himself, and barely gives you a goodbye before he’s rushing back to his bunk with another task added to his to-do list.

you told him that his painstaking cleaning of his rifle was admirable and enjoyed the flush that overtook his ears. a few hours later, he told you that your piloting made him less queasy than the others, even during the complicated maneuvers you pull to save everyone’s skins.

the calmer the environment on the marauder became, the more he opened up. he was more conscientious about where he flicked his toothpicks (now they were found notably far from your bedroll) and even listened to the ridiculous stories you told about the 104th with what you think is his form of amusement.

this new pattern had lightened the mood of the havoc marauder immensely and the change in environment was very evident. missions went smoother because of the positive communication, and the time spent recovering energy afterwards decreased because there was far less tension in the air.

all in all, things were okay until shangri-la.
