Io vedo soltanto il sentiero
e di tanto in tanto
le ombre delle nuvole
inviarmi messaggi
che non capisco.

Something catches fire in the hearts of the leaves
And they don't understand what it is—
This change that's happening within.
They sense a light
That they didn't know they bore,
Like Virgins, frightened by the Child,
Like candles, afraid of the flame
That ignites on its own.
Maybe I should try to help them,
But I can't.
That would mean assenting,
Acknowledging
The light I also hide within,
But I put off that painful dawn
From the other side.
As though I accepted
That everything has now begun.

"A Blinding Animal" by Ana Blandiana (translated from Romanian by Paul S. Derrick and Viorica Patea)
ALT TEXT under cut
“A Blinding Animal” by Ana Blandiana
(translated from Romanian by Paul S. Derrick and Viorica Patea))
Light is also flesh.
If you tug on it, it breaks
And bleeds.
Have you ever noticed how
A beam of light,
Dragged to one side of the sky,
Begins to rot away?
Have you ever caught
A whiff of blood
From the sluggish stream
That oozes out of a ray
Of sunlight, stumbling
From stone to stone?
If so, did you stop to think
About the heavenly pain
Perfected there,
At the heart of all worlds,
Where a blinding animal
Wounded forever
Keeps us all
Alive?

Più innocente, ma non innocente,
In questo universo nel quale
Le leggi stesse della natura decidono
Chi deve uccidere chi

Cammino dentro di me

lungo orbite verdi,
e sono straniera se varco il confine
delle tue chiome sfibrate.
Soltanto la tua lingua
so parlare in sogno
e dire fiabe solo per te,
mio precario paradiso,
mio precario signore.
È freddo fuori
e fitta è la nebbia,
si fa sera,
Il tempo scende lento,
ma come si sta bene e al caldo a casa,
quando l'uno all'altro siamo patria.

Come, moon, pry us loose from our
slumber,
Come, cast your net into our waters,
Drag us out,
Pour us out of ourselves, turn us
loose
into the sky's insomnia.
We might not stand it, though,
Our lungs might well have turned to
bronchiae with slumber.
But,
Whatever the risk, wake us up,
And leave us all free and alone in the
sea
To progress at leisure
With infinite care
Along the liquid surface,
Along the very changing architecture
of waves,
Along the horizon stretched like a
tight rope
Between two infernos,
Our eyes lost in your eye, raving with hope.

Io credo che siamo un popolo vegetale,
Donde, se no, la calma
Con cui aspettiamo la sfogliatura?
Donde il coraggio
Di abbandonarci al toboga del sonno
Fino alle soglie della morte,
Con la certezza
Che saremo in grado di nascere
un'altra volta?
Io credo che siamo un popolo vegetale.
Chi ha mai visto un albero in rivolta?

Déjame encenderme en tu oscuridad,
En la luz feroz,
Enséñame a arder oscuramente,
Modela mi llama
En forma de alas
Y purifícala de todo color.
O
Incluso mejor,
Dame una semilla de oscuridad
Para enterrarla en la tierra
Y haz girar más rápido las estaciones
Para que crezca
Y la siembre de nuevo.
Y en la luz feroz
Habrá entonces bosques y campiñas,
Arboledas, huertos, prados y bosques nocturnos.
Una suave oscuridad
En la que podamos morir cuando queramos,
Una oscuridad en la que
No seremos ni hermosos ni buenos,
Sino que únicamente estaremos solos
Y sin tener que mirar;
Al cerrar los ojos, podríamos ver.
