Could you please write something where the villain accidentally splits their personality into two separate entities, one is their hidden (romantic) feelings toward hero, that fonds over them whenever they’re near and the other their reserved nature. They have to come ask hero for help and during this time the hero who is also already had feelings for villain, adores their more sweeter side. Bonus if the reserved one has hidden feeling for hero since they still have the same heart. Thanks!
“Accident at main lab.
Assistance mandatory.
Come ASAP.
- V”
The message was as straightforward as Hero had grown used to receiving from the villain. They were the type of person who spoke in very few words, refusing to participate in small talk and any other ‘performative’ types of socialisation. Other villains considered them far too unsociable to team with, and Hero’s teammates found their bluntness infuriating, and only made them want to punch the criminal more. The hero didn’t mind, though. They knew their curt nature didn’t come from a place of (complete) malice.
Villain had been messaging their supposed archnemesis once a month, now, usually relating to some disaster that they had come across. They were intelligent, far more intuitive than any scientist the agency had on their roster. Yet, the pursuit of science often came hand in hand with catastrophe, even with the most capable scientist, and Villain was much more brains than brawn. It started with an explosion, that left dangerous test subjects crawling among civilians. Last time, it was a parasite that had already taken over half a dozen supers.
As Hero pushed open the glass door to the laboratory entrance, they were hardly worried. In fact, they had grown fond of the time they spent with Villain, even if it meant that calamity had to strike for their paths to meet. To Hero, their new companion was impressive: a quick-witted and like-minded individual that unfortunately came with an undeniably attractive face. Although they knew that likely nothing would ever come of this admiration, Hero still thought it was, at the very least, nice to spend time with them.
Stepping inside, the first thing the hero noticed was how calm everyone seemed to be. All of Villain’s staff seemed to be orderly, and unbothered by whatever monstrosity their boss seemed to need help with. Though, when the secretary perked her head up, a look of unease washed over her features. Hero strolled up to her, remaining calm, ready to ask about Villain’s whereabouts.
“I assume you aren’t here on official grounds, sir. Did Villain send for you?” She questioned, a clear sense of uncertainty in her words. If Hero was here, alone, it usually meant something was happening.
“Yeah, said to meet at main lab,” Hero confirmed. “Has that location changed? It’s just that things seem a little, uh, normal here.”
“No, you’re in the right place, sir. They’re in the analytical lab, I’ll notify them of your arrival. You know the way, same place as usual,” the secretary answered, gesturing towards the door on the far right. She was correct, Hero knew their way to the analytical lab already. They thanked her, and walked off swiftly, already out of earshot by the time the secretary had phoned up her boss.
When Hero arrived, they were mildly shocked that Henchman was sat outside, waiting impatiently. Normally, they were by Villain’s side during every emergency, acting as their lab-assistant-turned-bodyguard. But, here they were, sat as though they were waiting exasperatedly in a doctor’s office.
“Villain tell you to wait outside?” Hero questioned, wondering what could possibly make the scientist want their assistant out of the room entirely. Had they been infected with something? Did the disaster respond negatively to groups? Henchman only nodded in response. Hero had known of Henchman’s distaste for their relationship with their boss for a long time now, so they didn’t press further. Nothing left to do but confront Villain now. So, they entered the lab, grabbing their jacket as though they might need to cover their mouth quickly in case of dangerous toxins.
“What is it this time, Villain? Super-mutating virus? Miniature alien lifeforms? Someone screwed a lid on too tight again?” Hero trailed off as they took in the room. Instead of finding Villain in their lonesome, as they had expected, there were two people. The villain, and… also the villain? Hero wasn’t quite sure. One of them stood with their arms crossed, avoiding eye contact in typical Villain fashion. The other was perched on an empty desk, legs crossed and gaze completely transfixed on the hero.
“Evil clone army?” Hero tilted their head like a confused puppy, looking towards the more reserved-looking Villain for answers.
“Not really, look, it’s hard to explain,” Villain started, looking almost humiliated at what had happened. “My hypothesis was simple: if you can split a person into two parts, and identify the weaker, less capable part, it becomes easier to interrogate that person. It was almost complete, and I managed to erect a formula that could split one into their strength and weakness, however the prototype was, well, unstable, to say the least. You can imagine what happened next.”
“It was a great prototype though, compact, efficient and made in record time. It works pretty well, too, though you can probably see that. Nice jacket, by the way. The colour suits you,” the other version of Villain spoke as though they were hoping for the hero’s praise and validation. Hero had seen more indifference from an anxious highschooler seated next to their hallway crush in literature class. Villain glared, infuriated, at their other self, acting as though they had shared some major, confidential secret, while Hero could only stare wide eyed. Was this Villain’s weakness? Being utterly endearing?
“Is that why you sent all your assistants out, then? Scared they’ll find out your weakness of being strangely adorable underneath all that stoicism?” Hero teased, watching how both Villains seemed to fluster at that, one blushing profusely and the other turning pale. Before either could interrupt, Hero continued on, gesturing towards the seated Villain. “I’m just saying, I always imagined your weakness would be something a little more — I don’t know — grand? Whatever I would have guessed, it wouldn’t have been this.”
Hero had never been one to tease the Villain before. The latter never responded with embarrassment to people’s remarks, and always seemed like they didn’t care what people said. But, if Villain’s explanation was correct, then this blushing, fluttery mess in front of them was Villain. It meant that deep down, underneath the apathy, there was a softer side to them. Hero’s chest seemed to warm at the idea.
“What the weakness is doesn’t matter, we just need to find a way to put us back together,” the aloof version of Villain explained, looking like they wanted to bury their face into their gloved palms. “Though, for the record, my weakness is not adorableness.”
“Oh? So what is it then? Compassion? Sensitivity? Or is it a little more specific than that?” Hero walked towards the bashful Villain as they spoke, giving the both of them a knowing look. The hero wasn’t stupid, and they weren’t unpopular, either. They knew what a crush looked like, and had dealt with plenty admirers in their time as a superhero. Seeing those symptoms, those telltale signs, plastered across the face of a very abashed Villain was definitely something different though.
Truth be told, the pair had had this conversation before, although Hero’s name had been conveniently omitted. A few weeks ago, the conversation had come round to romance, and the villain was quick to shut the topic out. “This line of work is no place for daydreams and what-could-bes. Any fool who believes they can pursue justice and romance will soon find themself crushed under the rubble of both ruined dreams.” That’s what they had said. Hero paid it no attention at the time, though perhaps they should have. Hindsight always had a way of turning everything sour.
Neither Villain spoke, either too flustered or too humiliated to form a response to that, depending on how you framed the situation. Hero cleared their throat, and spoke up once again. “I take it you’re looking for me to help the two of you undo what happened?” They tried to revert back to their usual, more indifferent and relaxed tone. It was hard to be relaxed in a situation like this, though. Whatever Hero was feeling (excitement, admiration, worry, hope) it was far from calm.
“That depends, are you going to keep on taunting me if I keep you around for longer?” The scowling Villain retorted, noticably twitching at Hero’s comments. The latter used to think the twitching came from rage and fury. Now, knowing what they did, they could probably take a better guess at how Villain felt. It was funny, in a charming way. The criminal was clearly about to make another cutting comment, however they took a deep breath in, and seemed to recalibrate their words.
“We should be able to find a way to reverse this predicament ourselves, however it won’t be a quick process. I was hoping that, erm, you’d be well-equipped to handle that one,” the criminal finished their sentence by gesturing to the bashful Villain, whose eyes had not left Hero’s lips since they had walked in here. The superhero took a mental note of how the reserved Villain still seemed to blush when they spoke to them.
Hero grinned at that, chuckled softly, and nodded. They’d have to clear their schedule the moment they got the chance; surely Superhero and Sidekick could handle things for a while. They were long overdue a vacation, anways, and dear God they didn’t want to miss a second of this for the world.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-fda-suspends-food-safety-quality-checks-after-staff-cuts-2025-04-17/
WASHINGTON, April 17 (Reuters) - The Food and Drug Administration is suspending a quality control program for its food testing laboratories as a result of staff cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services, according to an internal email seen by Reuters.
The proficiency testing program of the FDA's Food Emergency Response Network is designed to ensure consistency and accuracy across the agency's network of about 170 labs that test food for pathogens and contaminants to prevent food-borne illness.
The firing and departure of as many as 20,000 HHS employees have upended public health research and disrupted the agency's work on areas like bird flu and drug reviews. President Donald Trump hopes to slash as much as $40 billion from HHS.
"Unfortunately, significant reductions in force, including a key quality assurance officer, an analytical chemist, and two microbiologists at FDA's Human Food Program Moffett Center have an immediate and significant impact on the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN) Proficiency Testing (PT) Program," says the email sent on Tuesday from FERN's National Program Office and seen by Reuters.
The program will be suspended at least through September 30 and means the agency will be unable to do planned quality control work around lab testing for the parasite Cyclospora in spinach or the pesticide glyphosate in barley, among other tests, the email says.
"These PTs and Exercises are critical to demonstrating the competency and readiness of our laboratory network to detect and respond to food safety and food defense events," the email says.
HHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Food safety laboratories rely on these types of tests to meet standards for accreditation, said a source familiar with the situation, who was not aware of other ready alternatives to the FDA to provide such testing.
The FDA in early April suspended an effort to improve its testing for bird flu in milk, cheese and pet food, as a result of staff cuts.

Nixxe, Inquest Inspector
A once greatly respected inspector on the infamous Inquest Ethics Committee, Nixxe was an analytical mind like no other. Highly intelligent with a keen intellect, she was talented at finding patterns in datasets and rooting out inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inefficient use of resources with significant ease. As such, she was one of Miyya's best inspectors for years, ranked quite highly in the subkrewe's hierarchy.
That upward trajectory may have continued, as well, had it not been for a chance meeting early in her career with the (eventual) overseer of the genetics lab Applied Maginetics, Prikk. They had one daughter together initially, Rhiia, and it was as the girl grew that Nixxe began to become disillusioned with the organization as a whole.
Once Rhiia was fifteen, she urged her to run away.
Unfortunately, a few years after the "birth" of her and Prikk's son Rhenn - created in a test tube using a dubiously acquired sample of genetic material on Nixxe's part - she made her first moves towards escaping. Her intention had been to take Rhenn and meet up with Rhiia outside the Inquest, find somewhere safe to raise the boy. In the meantime, she'd at least tried to raise him as well as she could. When the time came for her to make her move, however...
That was when Nixxe disappeared.

† in the maze : il dottore.
❥ scenario: like a mouse ❥ uuuuuhhhh... there might be triggers, i just genuinely don't know how to address them here. one part makes it sound like there was assault but - no, there was none. ever. just to clarify. toxic things. ❥ i don't have any beta readers - you get what you get.
the hum of machines and flickering of monitors filled the lab, creating a familiar lullaby to your nerves. you stood in the center, eyes following dottore as he worked with his usual calculated precision and occasional annoyed huff. the air was thick with the smell of various chemicals and metal, a reminder to you of the experiments conducted at the hands of your partner; you didn't let your mind wander to how many lives had been lost in the room. though the room seemed cold and hostile, it had been your home longer than any other.
as he adjusted settings on a nearby device, he glanced over to you, his gazed sharp and analytical, studying you for a moment. 'you're unusually quiet today, little mouse,' he remarked, voice smooth but still holding that ever present edge of condescension. the nickname felt like a bee sting with how he said it, like it was meant to be comforting but somehow always came out frayed at the edges.
you thought for a moment before hesitating, your question coming out barely above a whisper. 'why do you call me that? little mouse.. what does it mean to you..?'
dottore paused, fingers hovering above a set of test tubes, filled to different degrees with liquids you didn't dare question. as you watched him, a small, almost amused smile formed on his features before his full attention was set on you. 'you're a curious one today. how intriguing.'
his focus on his project was gone as he began to circle you in the lab, steps echoing against cold tile and empty walls. his gaze never left you, leaving you to feel like a specimen under a microscope - you weren't proud to say it was an awfully familiar feeling. 'you see,' he began, surprisingly conversational, 'it's because, in many ways, that's what you are to me.'
the words hung in the air, heavy with implication. he continued to circle, like a predator stalking it's prey, eyes shining with curiosity and something you could only say was much darker. part of your brain had gone several years with the same sirens and red alerts to leave and run - it was no different standing in that spot feeling like roadkill to a vulture. 'a mouse is a creature that lives in a maze, scurrying through paths laid out for them, guided by one dominant hand. it's a creature that belongs solely to the one who controls the maze.'
he stopped, only for a second, to gesture around the room. 'i built this maze and you, my dear, are no different than a mouse.. bound to my creation and my control.'
you felt a shiver go down your spine as his words echoed in your thoughts. there was a cold logic to his explanation, one that made it clear how he viewed you more often than not - you weren't a person, you were something to be studied. to be controlled. but, you couldn't help but often by confused by his actions towards you. if you were simply a mouse, why were you kept so well?
he watched you and how the words began to sink in before gesturing downward towards your ankle with a gloved hand. 'the mark on your ankle.. do you remember how you got it?'
you frowned. the only thing you could recall from seeing it was.. him. a good feeling. you shook your head, uncertain about wanting his answer.
a satisfied smile curled onto his lips and he knelt down, reaching to brush his fingertip against the scarred skin. 'how could you not remember such a passionate night? it was when you first arrived here, my love,' he said the name so mockingly and it made your skin crawl. he had said it before and it gnawed at the back of your mind to figure out why. 'this mark - these teeth marks - are mine. a reminder to you and everyone else that you belong to me. it's a scar that ensures no one else dares to interfere in what is mine.'
you stared for a moment, thoughts jumbled and scattered, realization slowly dawning on you. a passionate night...? you had never questioned the mark before, never truly worried about it, but now, with his explanation, everything felt disturbingly clear. there were things from your first days with the fatui that didn't seem to exist in your memory - only mild feelings. most of which had grown your affection for the latter. but you frowned as you realized the scar wasn't just that - it was a brand; a symbol of ownership.
'don't be upset now, little mouse.. you asked for it, that is where you wanted it.' the confidence behind his words only proved to make you more curious, looking at him for a moment. 'memories are easily tampered with when you know what you're doing.. some things, they don't need to be remembered - it can make things messy but don't worry, nothing happened that you didn't want. i promise you that.'
you'd gotten to a point of not knowing how to take his words and just stayed quiet.
straightening to his full height as he came to a stop in front of you, he reached to nudge your chin up. 'you are in my maze, mouse, and every path you take is one i have designed. you are my experiment, my project, and no one else's.' there was a possessive edge to his words that made you furrow your brow but you never looked away, trying to answer unspoken questions in his gaze.
as if sensing your unease, his expression softened, though just slightly. 'i do care for you, in my own way,' he continued, voice lower, almost contemplative. 'you are important to me, more than just a subject. you hold my interest... i am.. hm, attached, even. but you must understand, my affection is not like that of others. it is intwined with curiosity, the need to explore and understand you so completely and on a level that even you, yourself, become confused.'
his gloved hand shifted to rest gently at your cheek, his attempt at showing affection to ease the nerves. 'you belong to me, little mouse. and as long as you remain here, in my maze, you will be safe, taken care of. but you must never forget your place as my possession.'
the word 'love' never passed his lips and you knew his need to own you should have made you leave but there was something in the way he looked at you- something that hinted at some twisted form of love. it was born from control, curiosity and the need to keep you close, even if that closeness was defined by his boundaries alone. as you glanced behind him, through him, even, you thought back to the countless subjects that had lost their lives by his hand and decided that if you meant nothing, you wouldn't be standing there. let alone, sharing your life with his in such a close manner.
you nodded, deciding that words weren't necessary. in dottore's world, love was not tender or gentle; it was a form of ownership and control and understanding every facet of the one who had captured his interest. he was kind enough to dip down and press a kiss to your head. 'do not let it sit for too long.' his way of telling you not to worry and you appreciated it, despite still being a little lost.
as he stepped back, returning to his work, you were left with the weight of his word and comforting tingle of the kiss. you thought, though, over being stuck in his maze - trapped, studied.. taken care of but strangely, undeniably, important to him.

Y/n is close with Abby like the mom figure to Gibbs being her dad figure. Gibbs and y/n have only ever had words in passing They are always friendly with a flirt now and then. One day Gibbs uses Abby's cot to get some rest he wakes up to y/n and Abby talking about blind dates.
"Y/n I'm gonna find you a companion in life. Just do one more date"
*y/n sighs* "I'm just not the type of person people are looking for and that's ok"
*as she leaves the lab* "Abs some people are ment to be alone"
Gibbs comes out telling Abby that he will be taking y/n on the next date.
This is such a sweet idea!! I’m sticking it with this request bc I feel like they just fit together so perfectly. I hope that’s okay by both of you 🥹 thank you so much for the love!
Jethro Gibbs x f!reader
TW: alcohol, a smidge of angst (reader thinks she’ll be forever alone), mostly just a heap of fluff
A/N: I’ve never been able to use any of my nerdy lab knowledge in a fic before so sorry if I went a little overboard lmao (I’m a pre-analytical training coordinator and spend my days teaching people to be labbies basically). Thank you so so so much for reading! ❤️
Just before you left for the day, you decided to head down to the lab check in on Abby. It was quality control week, meaning she had to got to run test patients on all of her instruments, confirm the results are what they should be, order biological indicator tests to make sure no foreign bacteria snuck its way in where it shouldn’t have, then do it all over again a dozen or so times to make sure the results match up.
Not that Abby is anything less than capable of completing the quarterly checks, it just gets very tedious, and Abby is not a fan of busy work.
“Hey Abs,” You greeted her sweetly.
“There is no Abby, only QC’s,” She quipped back in her best robot voice.
You only chuckled in response and grabbed a pair of gloves without another word. You started resulting the tests in her queue, a feeble attempt to help the boring task move along faster.
The two of you worked quietly on opposite sides of the lab for another half hour until you moved the last tube into the “finished” tray.
“Wanna grab some dinner?” You questioned, removing your gloves and heading over to the sink to wash your hands.
“No, thanks; already ate,” Abby responded without looking up from her work, “Hey! How did that date go last night? I can’t believe I forgot until now! Tell me everything.”
Abby turned towards you excitedly, her eyes bright and body fidgeting in anticipation. You swear she was more invested in your love life than you were sometimes.
You started to shake your head “no” and Abby let out a loud groan.
“Ugh! I had such a good feeling about this one,” She spoke in disappointment.
“You said that the last time, too, Abs,” You leaned against the counter and crossed your arms lazily, “He asked me to meet his mom. On the first date!”
Abby visibly cringed and put a hand lovingly on your bicep.
“I’m gonna find you a companion, I swear it!”
You let out a sound that’s half laugh, half sigh before you speak, “It’s okay, really. I’m just not the type of person anyone is looking for, and I can’t find the person I’m looking for. It’s just the way it is, Abby.”
She sent you a sympathetic look, squeezing your arm in reassurance. Abby pulled you into a tight hug, like she was trying to will a new love life into you with her bare hands.
You sent her a loving smile when she finally pulled away from you.
“Well, I’m gonna head out. You sure I can’t drag you away for something to eat?”
“No, no. I have too much to get done,” She motions to the empty tubes behind her, “Don’t lose hope, Boss Lady. Your perfect man is out there.”
You headed towards the door before turning around to tell her goodbye, “Some people are just meant to be alone. It’ll be me and the dogs forever,” You smiled slightly, “Goodnight, Abs.”
You made it almost out the door of the NCIS building before you realized you left your purse in the lab. With a huff, you begrudgingly dragged yourself back into the elevator, down to the lab, and right up to the doorway. The surprise of two distinct voices coming from within stopped you in your tracks.
“Gibbs! You can’t sneak up on me like that! I didn’t know you were using the cot.”
“Sorry, Abs. You often set her up on blind dates?”
“Yes! I am determined to find my wonderful boss’ soulmate somewhere in the greater DC area.”
Jethro chuckles.
“I can’t believe I didn’t see it before now! She’s just your type, Gibbs, and she’s so fun and cryptic just like you and—“
“Abby,” He paused, “Way ahead of you.”
You decided now was your chance. Knocking gently on the doorframe, both of them turned their heads to see who was there.
“Hey Abby; Jethro,” You smiled, trying not to act like you just heard their whole conversation about you, “I just, uh, left my purse.”
Abby looked around and spotted your bag, handing it to you with a cheeky grin on her face. You all stood there in semi-uncomfortable silence for a beat before Gibbs spoke.
“Have any plans tomorrow night, Red?”
You straightened up a bit at his question and the playful nickname. You are just his type.
“Um, no. I don’t. Not yet, anyway.” You tried to keep an even tone, but the nerves and excitement were practically seeping out of your pours.
“My place, 7 o’clock,” Gibbs said in his nonchalant tone, “Casual. Hope you like bourbon.”
He winked at you and walked out of the lab before you could even exhale the breathe you hadn’t known you were holding. You looked at Abby, your eyes wider than ever before.
“Eee! I’m so excited!” Abby squeals and flings her arms around you.
You couldn’t even put any thoughts together. Your heart pounded out of your chest and your hands must’ve been shaking, the adrenaline of the situation just starting to wear off.
“Come on,” Abby said while sliding her jacket off the back of her chair, “I’ll finish up tomorrow. We have to plan your date. With Gibbs!”
You let out a laugh and wrapped an arm over Abby’s shoulders, heading out to grab something to eat.
You nervously sifted through your tops, trying to find something that felt “casual,” as Jethro had requested, but still nice enough for a date.
Oh screw it.
You grabbed a plain olive green hoodie, the big white letters reading NCIS. You figured if he asked for casual, he would get casual.
The drive to Gibbs’ house went quickly. You’d been there once before, when Abby insisted Gibbs needed company one New Year’s Eve. You didn’t end up staying very long, but he left an impression on you. After the visit, Gibbs started stopping to say “hello” in the hallways at work, or bringing a coffee up your office every now and then.
One detail you remembered from your brief visit is the front door was never locked, so you didn’t bother to stop and knock.
Walking through the doorway, your eyes immediately gravitated to the only light on in the house — the one leading down the stairs to the basement. You took this as your sign to invite yourself downstairs.
The stairs creaked slightly as you made your way down, the sounds of sandpaper meeting wood filled your ears.
“You found the place,” Jethro’s strong voice greeted you as you stepped into his workspace.
“How could I forget?” You teased back.
Jethro let out a honey-soaked chuckle and offered you a stool to sit on. He poured you two fingers out of his half-empty bottle of bourbon, then did the same for himself. He tipped his glass to you and you tapped yours against it with a slight clink.
You shut your eyes as the amber liquid burned down your throat. Instinctively, you leaned back against the counter and let out an exhale.
“Long day?” Jethro joked, but you could see the genuine care when you opened your eyes to meet his gaze.
“Long week,” You responded before taking another sip, “Abby’s up to her eyeballs in evidence to examine, plus all this QC crap takes so much time. I just feel bad I can’t help her more. I didn’t realize taking the lead forensics position would take me out of the lab so much.”
Jethro nodded in understanding, one corner of his mouth tilting up slightly as he poured more into your already empty cup.
“Abby’s the best of the best,” He said with confidence, placing a hand reassuringly on your knee, “She’ll get it done.”
You smiled and nodded back at him, placing your hand over his as a silent thank you.
You were surprised when Jethro broke the comfortable silence first.
“You know she thinks the world of you, Red,” He said with a look in his eye, one that almost looked like pride if you had to guess.
You felt your cheeks get hot and you looked down at your shoes, unsure if the liquor or his sweet comment made you blush.
You took another sip before lifting your head back up and responding.
“Same goes for you, Jethro,” You reached out to grab the hand that rested on your knee just moments before, “I think if she had time to write a book about how much she adores you, she would.”
He laughed, a full laugh, glazed in honey and bourbon and it warmed you to your core. You thought that sound could end wars, cause the devil himself to crack a smile. You would have melted right there if he didn’t jolt you out of your trance a moment later.
He took the glass from your hand and whispered a quick, “c’mere.”
He took your hand and led you over to the boat he was building. He showed you a few small hand tools and gave you a quick explanation of their use.
Before long, his hands were resting over yours, your back pressed gently against his chest as he showed you the different sanding techniques he used. Though every inch of his body was pressed against yours, you’d never felt so free, so held and yet, so comfortable.
It was a quiet few minutes before he spoke, his lips inches from your ear.
“You ever done this before?” His breath tickled your neck and sent a shiver down your spine.
“Never,” You breathed, trying your hardest not to just melt into his strong arms.
“You’re a natural then.”
He slowly peeled his hands back from yours, allowing you to keep sanding on your own for a moment. You felt his strong hands slide down your arms, your sides, before settling on your hips.
Your eyelids fluttered, suddenly aware of the effect he had on you. Your movements halted and Jethro raised a hand cautiously to your chin, turning your head to face him.
“This okay?” He questioned gently, a worried look settled into his furrowed brows.
You didn’t answer immediately. Instead, turning your whole body to face his, your arms sliding over his broad shoulders to rest at the back of his neck.
“Only if you intend to kiss me, Jethro,” His name danced from your lips in a whisper.
A soft smile spread across his face, the worry melting away in an instant.
“Yes, ma’am, I do.”
Before you could comprehend, the hand that was still on your chin drifted to hold you just below your ear, and his lips melted into yours in a sweet, slow kiss.
He tasted of bourbon and something you were sure was just distinctly him.
You leaned further into him as your lips met over and over again. His presence wasn’t demanding, but invasive. You felt Jethro in every inch of your body; his taste, his smell, the way his fingers gripped into your hip like he was afraid you might disappear if he let go.
The seconds felt like hours before you separated your lips, both of you desperate for oxygen. Your chest heaved slightly as he drew small circles onto your lower back absentmindedly; his forehead leaning down to rest on yours.
“Do you bring all the girls down here and make out like teenagers?” You teased, still slightly out of breathe.
He threw his head back in another honey-glazed laugh. It invaded your sense just as his kiss had.
God, you though, I could listen to that forever.
“No,” He huffed, a wide smile still spread across his face, “Only the special ones.”
“Ohh,” You exaggerated, “So I’m special, then?”
He only growled an Mmmhhmm before his lips pressed into yours once more, this time slightly quicker than the time before.
“Hungry?” He asked simply, prying his lips from yours, a slight groan falling from your lips as he pulled away.
“Starving,” You replied without missing a beat.
He raised an eyebrow and leaned slightly further away from you, letting him see your full expression.
“For food, sweetheart,” He jested, a hint of teasing in his voice.
“I know!” You squeaked, swatting his shoulder playfully in protest.
He chuckled that charming laugh and nodded his head towards the stairs.
“Well, come on then,” He spoke after pressing a quick peck to your lips.
You followed Jethro upstairs where you enjoyed a delicious homemade dinner and spend the rest of the evening basking in each other’s company.
You sighed as you reached the top of the stairs, just outside your office. Since you rarely locked the door, you turned the handle and swung it open. You were surprised to see the light already switched on. A pit formed in your stomach as your eyes scanned the room before—
“Jesus, Abby!” You found her sitting at your desk chair, literally shaking in anticipation, “You almost gave me a heart attack!”
“Sorry, I’m sorry,” She quickly approached you, taking your bag out of your hand and setting it down in the desk, “Sooo? I’m dying to know! Tell me everything!”
“Ab,” You smiled at her an tilted your head slightly in a playful manner, “A girl should never kiss and tell.”
Abby squealed in excitement and pulled you into a hug, clearly understanding that it went well enough for you to kiss him.
“Please tell me you’re seeing him again. Please, please, please,” She practically begged with her hand folded in front of her.
“Tomorrow, after work,” You smiled as she squealed and pulled you into another excited hug.
“This is the best day ever!” She declared and sat in the comfy chair across from your desk, determined to get all the details from your life-changing first date with Jethro Gibbs.
