AN EXTREMELY HEAVY RELIANCE ON SYDNEY. SEASON 3 THE BEAR
Especially this season, everyone seems to be relying really heavily on Sydney
The Berzattos
Tumblr media
Cicero needed a listening ear and reassurance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adam Shapiro
Tumblr media
Carmy changes the menu etc and yet all questions go to Sydney
Tumblr media
They all want or need something from her.
Tumblr media
But nobody is really checking in on her. Richie kinda does it but in relation to the restaurant each night. (It's good that he cares though)
Tumblr media
He relies on her too
They all seem to just expect that she'll take care of them and be grateful for the crumbs they seem to throw her way. (Not Marcus he's different and seems the closest anyone can get at the bear
It's really tiring being someone like Sydney. Everyone trusts her and her judgement. Everyone relies on her
They see her value but it probably seems to her that they just want to exploit it.
Can she get a break?
Tumblr media
Can someone bring HER a coffee, a cookie? Something?
Tumblr media
They should really check on their 'strong friends'
Tumblr media

Fak is too involved in Carmy and Claire's relationship. From giving Claire Carmy's number to showing up at her job with his equally annoying brother. He needs to mind his business and stop assuming what Carmy wants. In s3 ep9 Fak tells Claire he thinks (then later says knows) Carmy loves her. If you don't know Carmy's true feelings about her, why tf are you speaking for him?
Also sometimes it seems like Carmy doesn't even like Fak like that. They rarely have one-on-one scenes together and their conversations are mostly surface leveI. I always thought Fak and Richie were closer. In s2 ep3, when Claire and Carmy are talking on the phone, Carmy says Fak isn't his best friend (but then backtracks 5 seconds later saying he's probably my best friend). Then in s3 ep5 when they are preparing for the photoshoot, Fak said Carmy was #1 on his best friends list. The friendship is obviously unbalanced. Fak is one of those childhood friends you have outgrown but keep in your life due to history and familiarity. This is just another example of Carmy being stuck in the past and not being able to let go. He either needs to set some boundaries with Fak or end the friendship.
I love your blog btw. Your analysis on The Bear are very thorough.
*EXTREMELY HOT TAKE INCOMING*
Thanks for the kind compliments / thanks for the ask, but I'm starting to think that, if my suspicions are correct, that depending on how season 4 goes, that she and The Faks may shape up to be fantastic characters, at least from a trollish comedic parody perspective - and that this may be a huge 'star making role' for Molly Gordon and the rest of actors cast as the Faks if what is being set up is executed well post-reveal, and they demonstrate that, contrary to what we have seen thus far on the show, they definitely have acting range.....
Because I'm like 88% sure now that Claire x Carmy x Sydney's love triangle is an allegory/deconstructed (in part) version of Lilith x Adam x Eve from apocryphal / Jewish tradition. And that 'Sammy' Fak may be an archangel Samael figure
Lilith is Adam's first wife apocryphally and in Jewish mysticism that left him and became a she-demon / mother of demons / the "queen of the night" after being impregnated by / becoming a consort of the archangel Samael (whose name means Venom of God and is a seducing/destroying angel).
My thoughts are too incoherent right now to make a post about this theory in its own right, but all of the above could explain why the scenes where Claire is physically intimate with Carmy are shot in darkness and low light, compared to warm /well lit scenes when Syd and Carmy are emotionally intimate; it could explain why the songs that play during Carmy and Claire's scenes are frequently morbid or are outright about death, or lyric less ambient scores that invoke the feel of psychological horror,
and why mostly love songs are played for Carmy and Syd's.
I've made some posts /edits pointing out the parallels between Claire / Carmy / Syd and these biblical / mythological figures, and a post on why I think John Cena as Sammy Fak is a case of good casting (from a comedy perspective) if the Faks are really meant to serve the function that I think they are meant to below;
but some additional similarities between Claire and Lilith are that they were 'created' in the same way, 'formed from the same dust', as their 'Adam' (whose name can also mean red clay/earth and Claire's last name means mud or muddy fortress) - since Carmy and Claire both come from the same neighborhood/highschool and, depending on how much we see of Claire in the future, they may have both come from dysfunctional homes / be the adult children of alcoholic parents.
The posts I linked below are:
1. A webweaving on Sydcarmy + Adam x Eve parallels;
2. A fan edit that I did that was inspired by the webweaving; side note: if Carmy's words to Sydney at the end of their first convo was foreshadowing for them starting a literal nuclear family of their own, and how many kids they're gonna have, I'll scream;
"We're gonna make family, it's meat, (👀) plus three, and we'll eat around two."
3. A reblog add-on to @espumado et. al's @thoughtfulchaos773 @vacationship @kdbleu 's etc. thread on the theme of haunting / religious / mythological imagery and parallels in the show in season 3.
4. Another thread on religious symbolism in Season 3 and Claire and Syd / Carmy's relationship kicked off by @vacationship.
5. Another reblog add on I made in response to @glitterslag about the episode Review in Season one possibly representing/parodying the biblical "Fall of man".
6. A fan edit that I made for clairecarmy with the intent of being humourous at first, but unexpectedly turned out pretty nightmarish / psychological horror-esque without much work because the material/ dark imagery is there; including an eye opening parallel between Claire and Donna.
7. A post on the Bear being a super deconstructed Shakespearean pastoral comedy e.g. like As You Like It.
8. The religious symbolism of Carmy's red string of fate dish for Syd possibly being a visual allusion to the sacred heart of jesus, which is an emblem of God's long suffering and passionate love, an add-on to @twokisses post

About ClaireCarmy (Opinion)
Tumblr media
Carmy’s family (Richie, Steve, Mikey, Fak) anyone who was trying to set Carmy and Claire up,
never had good intentions for Claire or for Carmy.
They had an image of what a good man who makes it out looks like in their heads:
He gets the girl, he’s got the job, he takes care of his family.
They wanted Carmy to be their ticket out of dysfunction and generational problems. They wanted to live vicariously through him and Claire was just a “pretty cookie cutter wife” that fit that white picket fence image.
Carmy was a guy like them who had a chance to make it out and prove they could too.
Most of this show is Mikey and Richie living vicariously through Carmy and Carmy allowing them to because he feels like he owes to it them not to live a life he wants.
He doesn’t want the white picket fence (at least not now or like this) he just knows that people have told him that’s what he should want with Claire.
He lives in spite of people.
“Fuck you, watch this.” And he’s still unhappy.

crazy person check: did you see Richie being eviscerated by Syd in steadily personal and intense ways, until he was ultimately bothered / defeated, after belittling and undervaluing her. while also backdropped by past gems of empathy/connection and fondness.
all culminating in them getting in each other’s faces, and Syd brandishing a knife against him, and a part of you didn’t see it as a mere symptom of the chaos erupting in the kitchen, but as a greater manifestation of their tension (despite the good), especially with how needlessly close and frankly abetting/low Richie was speaking, not stepping away from the challenge, which later led you to realize that you actually ship it?
Especially bc he valued Sydney’s words sm that it borderline induced his S2 psychological spiral (which is fckɪɴɢ hilarious lol), exemplifying her impact/value to him, and how she’s equally if not more unhinged than him. and was allowed her retaliation in a grander, more intense way which validates her feelings against Richie, and elevates her above a passive recipient. With this tension transcending into S2, with their pointed tentativeness whenever they would initially interact, although awkward, it was evidently made so by all the things unsaid.
And doubly appreciate the detail of S2 ending with Carmy and Syd on repeatedly bad/disconnected footing and Richie conversely, earnestly imploring Sydney trust him, wanting to be utilized by her, giving himself to the person who arguably holds the most weight (was the one who really saw his inherent issues/needed to prove himself to) and was thusly crucial in pushing him to grow. and how sydney trusted him, chose to in fact — despite everything — which allowed her to achieve a huge part of her dream, actually being there for her - in opposition to his prior trend of self-centeredness (and so becoming endearing to you and smth you really appreciate). And the easy synergy this brought, evidencing their compatibility and natural gravitation — so while sydcarm are mirrors, their fallibilities tend to distance and depersonalize them from e/o - at least in carmy's case. Did this make you admire their depth and dynamicness and their uncanny ability to complement each other, whether piercing under the skin or building the other up? Did their [initial] tension make you think they were gonna makeout, but are you satisfied even tho they didn't (OOC, duh), but lowkey think they wanted to/should, like sydrichie nasty sickonut hɑτefuck when (with knife even)?
Would you lowkey love it if the show trolled and ended up not pairing sydcarm but unexpectedly the two that challenge each other - with sydrichie, despite many ppl falling to their knees in wallmart. Should sydrichie kiss sloppy style with τoɴɢue to make me very happy?
Do I need help? And is it an obvious problem that I ship Syd with any cousin 🐻 that breathes (she can't help that she's so charismatic and wifey 🤷🏿‍♂️)? Yes, yes. Clearly indicative of a hashtag normal person, very well adjusted yes.

Anyone but me interested in a Noir-esque The Bear AU
The Bear is a fancy bar ran by the mob, whom the Berzattos are part of or are associated with. The main story focuses on Sydney as she works there and realises that it's not just a job as a bar chef, but a cover for drug dealing and money laundering.
She observes everyone and gets the idea that most the staff, Tina, Ebra, Marcus, Gary etc, know it's a mob bar but don't know the details and don't want to, they just work the bar and cook the food. She knows that the Faks run security. Mikey's running the bar (trust me, it makes more sense if Mikey's alive but struggling in this plus, my AU, my rules) so she knows that he's aware and controlling what's going on. There's a gun under the counter, code words for the various drugs that people may want to order, and mysterious meetings that has his him shooting daggers. She gets the idea that this isn't what he wanted to do with his life, but he got stuck with it.
She's right. One of the Berzatto siblings had to inherit the Bear, and Mikey sure as shit wasn't going to let it be Carmy or Nat with how much potential they have.
The only person she can't place is Richie. She knows he works there but doesn't see him work the bar, he only takes the coats of certain people and spends most of his time smoozing customers. She guesses he must be a mob guy there to keep an eye on them, or some in house drug dealer.
She asks around and gets laughs. She's told using various euphemisms what his job is, he's a hustler, a gigolo, a rent boy, and when she doesn't get those, or doesn't want to believe them, Tina very blatantly says that he's a prostitute. He's told high profile clients are coming in, or picks up on various people in the bar, and works his charms, either disappearing to their car, their apartment, or if they don't have that kind of cash, to the inconspicuous room at the back that Sydney assumed was a storeroom.
When Gary's off sick, Mikey gets Syd to join him on the bar for a change. This is when she observes Richie more, sees the subtle exchange of money, how Richie turns on his charming attitude when he clocks a client, how someone's always touching him with no regard to consent or personal space or boundaries, like his body isn't actually his and is instead everyone's to do with as they wish.
She picks up on how he disappears almost without notice, how he always comes back looking as immaculate in his suit as he did beforehand. She also notes how Mikey watches him like a hawk, and how his eyes flick down to the gun and the light below the bar, she realises it's a kind of security measure.
It's only as the weeks turn to months that she finds out even more about how dark this place is. How Mikey's high most of the time, and how controlled he and Richie truly are, how much they go against what the mob want, and how desperately she needs to get out before it's too late.

I hope whoever asked ebon about sydrichie and genuinely thought it was a good idea has perpetual hell temperatured pillow syndrome on both sides and loses ample amount of sleep from it. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? WHY DO Y’ALL ALWAYS DO THAT WITH EVERYTHING THAT IS SACRED TO ME? That was meant to stay in this space and you weird mothertruckers in fandoms that just have to know what actors think about ships think it’s okay to ask (ALSO ALWAYS AT EVENTS THAT DONT EVEN PERTAIN TO THE SHIP). LIKE Y’ALL ARE RUINING IT.
ALSO JUST TO ADD ON, THIS IS THE TYPE OF SHIT THAT CAUSES WRITERS AND ACTORS SO SHY AWAY FROM SCENES INVOLVING CERTAIN CHARACTERS INTERACTING BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT PEOPLE TO “GET THE WRONG IDEA” WHEN REALLY ITS JUST THAT Y’ALL DONT KNOW HOW GO BE NORMAL ABOUT ANYTHING.

Another Sydcarmy parallel. What does it mean???? So, in S3E1, Sydney gazes down at Carmy's dish with delight and surprise. This "best meal she ever had" along with his amazing career inspires her to find Carmy after Sheridan fails. In S3E9, Carmy is making this dish with a sauce that looks like Syd's scarf. He tries to have a real conversation, but he's still stuck. However, he manages to convince her to join him at Ever. We even get a micro-smile from him. Then he stares at the polka dot sauce after Syd leaves with surprise and...fear? At which point he is moved (posessed?) to go to the walk-in to finally apologize to Claire, remembers how she told him she loved him (ILY is almost abusive with his background), and he avoids apologizing yet again. I wonder how this parallel is significant for them as a unit...anyways.

the thing with carmy and syd is that i would 100% respect it if the show was like the dynamic we are trying to explore is not a romantic one because its more about the creative push and pull or the differences in the way they need to prove themselves or even just the mentor vs ingenue thing like all of that is fine. theyre partners thats cool i get it. but in that case jeremy allen white needs to give molly gordon just like. ten to fifteen percent of what he is giving ayo
