[“As history has shown, and as I was at the time experiencing, a strap-on can be sexy, but it can also be a failure and a threat. It draws attention to how contradictory and fragile our definitions of male and female are, and how tightly we cling to them, even in relationships between women, where gender and sexuality are more flexible.

I think it’s important to look at how this played out, not just in the history of straight men policing lesbians but in the lesbian community policing itself. In the 1940s and 50s a bar scene began to develop in cities across the country, marking the first time when lesbians, particularly working-class ones, gathered publicly and in large numbers. During this time a butch/femme culture developed that included strict codes of dress and behavior both in and outside the bedroom. Butch women slicked back their hair, wore suits and jeans, and were, generally, the “givers” of sexual pleasure. Femme women wore dresses and makeup and were the “receivers” of sexual pleasure. In some ways, this culture was liberating, as it represented a powerful, cohesive group aesthetic and safety in numbers. Especially for women who actually identified as butch, it was also a chance to finally adopt masculine dress without being seen as failed or dangerous but rather as sexy and loveable. For others this culture was a trap, pushing women into restrictive sex and gender roles in the same ways heterosexuality had. It is by no means the only lesbian aesthetic, but I think part of the reason it has stuck around for so long in the popular imagination as the way lesbians are is because it allows straight people to again see themselves as the center of the sexual world.

In either case, strap-ons were not widely used, or at least not talked about. In Boots of Leather, Slippers of Gold, a book that documents the lives of Black and white lesbians in Buffalo, there is a pretty exhaustive set of interviews about sex acts and terminology, but no one mentions owning, liking, or even trying sex with a strap-on. Indeed, the one mention of a dildo is one of bewilderment as Vic, a self-identified butch, talks about her friend pulling her into the bathroom to show her the new strap-on she got. “Jesus, she whipped this thing out . . . I’m supposed to be butch and my face felt like a neon sign. I could feel the embarrassment. How do you admire a dildo? No seriously, what do you say?”

Butches in the book took great pride “in their own hands and their ability to please,” which “did not dispose them to think that a dildo would improve their lovemaking.” It’s interesting that they considered the dildo less potent and successful than hands. This could be read as displacing the power of the dick, but, coupled with the silence surrounding strap-on use, it also points to a greater fear about the lesbian body. How regulated and small it had to be to exist. How easily it could be diminished by something outside itself, or destroyed altogether.

In the lesbian radical feminist movement of the 1960s and 70s, there was also a great deal of attention focused on creating distance from dicks. Jill Johnston argued in A Lesbian Nation that the only true road to female liberation was the conscious “withdrawal at every level from the man to develop woman supremacy.” This meant that not only butch/femme dynamics but also penetrative sex were out. Anne Koedt developed the theory that the vaginal orgasm was a myth perpetrated by Freud in order to center male sexual desire for penetration, though her evidence for this was a study done by Kinsey—a man—that found the vagina was not particularly sensitive to touch. True orgasms, Koedt argued, only came from the clitoris—even though she interestingly also called the clit “the female equivalent of the penis”—so if women wanted to have enjoyable sex there was no need for penetration, only clitoral stimulation. Andrea Dworkin went so far as to call the penis “a hidden symbol of terror” and argued that “violence is male, the male is the penis.”

Dorothy Allison writes about the effects this had on herself and other lesbians at the time. “No one admitted to using dildos, wanting to be tied up, wanting to be penetrated, or talking dirty—all that male stuff . . . my lover wanted us to perform tribadism, stare into each other’s eyes, and orgasm simultaneously. Egalitarian, female, feminist, revolutionary.” In attempting to free themselves from the penis, in many ways radical lesbians ended up reinscribing the power of the dick and sacrificing the range of sexual pleasure they could experience in the process.

In a counter to this, the lesbian sexual outlaws of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s argued that dildos were actually great, not problematic, but primarily because they didn’t reference the penis at all. Some even argued that wearing a dildo turns a woman into a cyborg, not woman, man, or even human, just a body involved in the mechanistic movements of giving and receiving pleasure. While there is something freeing about this argument, as it gets us out from under the idea that we can’t talk about strap-ons and that a woman wearing a strap-on is only trying to make up for a never-ending lack, it still bypasses the sticky, complicated reality of the gendered/human world we live in and the simple fact that sometimes lesbians want strap-ons to look like penises.

It isn’t combat based. Missions include keeping up with McQueen’s top speed by racing down Radiator Springs’ main street, learning how to turn right to go left at Willy’s Butte, keeping up with Cruz’s top speed on Fireball Beach, avoiding pushy competitors with the Thunder Hollow challengers, and practicing with Cruz at Thomasville, culminating in the Piston Cup race at Florida International Speedway, where the objective is to win against Jackson Storm.

Sora enters the world as a custom-made sports coupe mixing a few real-life sports car models before visits to Luigi’s Casa Della Tires and Ramone’s House of Body Art end with him modified into a next-gen race car sponsored by Dinoco (with Tex’s blessing) and with Cruz’s number.

It’s set during Cruz’s first Piston Cup racing season, so McQueen still has Doc’s colors and spends the Florida race as Sora’s crew chief.

As Sora finishes his story, Mater is certainly unhappy with Xehanort’s actions forcing Sora’s hand. “That dad-gum Xehanort”, he says angrily. Extra points if Sora doesn’t get to the part where Xehanort is dead, then Sarge gets in his face and demands him to teach Xehanort a lesson when he gets back in a militaristic manner. “Is that understood,” Sarge yells. Then Sora tries to correct him, but gets cut off and asked again, “Is that understood,” and has to respond, “Sir, yes, sir!”

Of course, during the top speed races, Luigi is the one to signal the race to begin.

In the Radiator Springs race, Sora’s top speed is tracked by Sheriff’s speed radar, and on Fireball Beach, it’s via Cruz’s personal assistant, Hamilton.

If you fail the “Turn Right to go Left” mission, Sora goes flying into the bed of cacti, and Mater fishes him out.

I know I’ll get hate for this, but Cars 2 elements are here. Heck, maybe Mater can’t be present most for the training because he’s busy with Finn and Holley. After all, does he still owe Holley a first date?

I wanted the player character in this world to be Kairi just so Storm can feel the embarrassment of losing to not one, but two “costume girls”.

The Piston Cup race is announced as a 500-lap race, but no game developer is that malicious to force the player to race 500 laps around an oval, so they’d take after the first Cars game and make it twelve laps with the sun slowly lowering throughout the race.

🐆 Similarly to what I did last night, today I looked through another blog post on Andreas Deja’s animation blog in which he showcased some of Milt Kahl’s rough animation drawings of Bagheera in “The Jungle Book”. They are of the scene early on in the movie where Bagheera orders Mowgli to climb a tree to sleep in for the night: “Go on, up you go.” I even looked some other Milt Kahl drawings of Bagheera which showed how the animator observed how actor Sebastian Cabot read his lines as Bagheera during recording sessions for “Jungle Book”. Another one of Bagheera’s main animators was Ollie Johnston, whose scenes included the panther’s discovery of Mowgli, taking him to the wolves den, his nighttime discussion with Baloo, and his heart eulogy thinking that Baloo was killed by Shere Khan. Yesterday was the 56th anniversary of Disney’s “The Jungle Book”. #Disney100

Summary: Charlie calms Carl when Lori is gone. Rick is back on the farm with new problem to deal with.

A/N: I know I focus too much on Charlie lately, but I swear it will be more Daryl soon. To spoil you some, I want to make prison era (so whole 2 seasons) mostly about them.

"They should've been back by now," said Andrea as she entered to dining room, shortly after Charlie and Maggie brought plates and utensils to help Patricia who was preparing dinner.

"Yeah. They probably holed up somewhere," said Shane and sat down on a chair. "We will head out first thing in the morning," he announced and nodded to Patricia when she gave him a bowl of food. "Thank you."

Charlie thought that Shane was probably jumping up and down when he heard that Rick was gone somewhere again- especially now when Lori was pregnant and they didn't know whose baby was that. That's why he was so calm about the other man's absence. Besides, Hershel's gone was also good news to him. He was already acting like he was a boss around here and the whole farm belonged to him.

"Carl, I want you to keep your head up, okay?" Shane said to the boy. "Your old man, he's the toughest son of a"

"No cussing in the house," Patricia warned Shane with a serious expression.

Shane muttered a quiet apology.

"Charlie, you okay?" Shane asked and she felt disgusted by him. He was acting as if this house was his and as if nothing really happened earlier that day. "Look, maybe I shouldn't..."

"Maybe?" she scoffed.

"Yeah, maybe," he said. "I didn't know that she was there. I already apologized to Carol."

"How sweet of you," she said. "What about Hershel and the girls? You knew there was their family in that barn, and..."

"Where is she?" Dale asked drawing attention to the other conversation.

Quickly they realized that they were talking about Lori, who was missing and no one knew where she was. Shane furrowed his eyebrows. "Carl, when was the last time you saw your mom?"

"This afternoon."

"She was worried about Rick, and asked me go look in on Carl, because..." Andrea said looking at Charlie. "Because Charlie...was occupied."

Charlie threw her a nasty look and rolled her eyes. They were worried about Lori, but Andrea just had to make this about herself.

"She went after them?" Carol asked.

"She didn't say that," Andrea said.

"Nobody panic," Shane informed. "Gonna be around here somewhere."

They looked probably every millimeter of the farm. Every blade of grass was inspected to see if there was any sign of the missing woman. But it seemed that she just vanished in the air. Like she was never at the farm. Charlie wasn't heartless and she was worried because since coming to the farm, Lori had shown her her other side which was warm and inviting. For example, she was trying to comfort her after Daryl was shot. And on top of that Grimes was pregnant, it wasn't just her to be worried about.

"She's not at the barn," Shane said.

"I checked the yards," informed Andrea.

"Well, where is she?" Dale asked with furrowed eyebrows.

Then they all looked at Carol who was running towards them. "She asked Daryl to go into town. Must've gone herself."

"Did you know about this?" Shane asked Charlie with a pretentious tone.

"No."

"Look, just-" he looked away. "Did she take the gun?"

"I don't know," Charlie answered.

"You were sitting on this stupid porch all day and you don't know!" Shane yelled.

"Yeah, I don't know, asshole!" Charlie crossed her arms in defense. "I'm not a nanny to keep track of where everyone is!"

Charlie wanted to be as far from Shane as she could and as she was passing the house, she noticed the boy was sitting alone with knees up his chin, hugging his legs tightly. Charlie knew that he was worried about his mom, but he was still processing what happened in the barn today. He was just a boy, after all, just a kid who was trying to find a way to deal with whatever happened in the world.

And she really didn't like him.

Carl just had those annoying eyes and faces that expressed worry all the time. She called it a punchable face - her brother Will came up with this once. Carl just wanted to do the right thing all the time. He was the same kind of annoying as her younger brother, Pete. Annoyingly good to the bone. And maybe that was the reason she sat down next to Carl because she never did that to her brother even though he needed her more than once. "She'll be fine."

"Like Sophia?" he asked.

"Your mom will do everything to come back to you," she said.

"I don't like that she didn't tell me she's going," Carl answered.

"I know," Charlie nodded. "But she didn't want to worry you. Or was worried about your dad."

"Do you think he will be back?" the boy looked at her.

"Carl," she looked him in the eyes. "Your dad literally came back from the dead and found you. Not even knowing where you are. He's a tough one."

"Can I hug you?"

Charlie grimaced at the question because that was exactly what she expected from him. She gave him one finger and suddenly he asked for a whole hand. She showed empathy towards him and all she got back was him crossing lines. "No. But I can hold your hand."

And that's what they did. Carl took her hand and leaned his head on her shoulder. But that was the moment when a car that was taken by Shane, pulled up in front of the house and Lori left the passenger seat.

"What are they doing?" Carl asked as they were in the middle of their way to the group.

"I have no idea," she answered while holding his shoulder as he was standing in front of her. The first thing they saw was Lori hitting Shane, clearly angry about something. She was pushing him, while he tried to hold her in one place.

"I gotta...I gotta look after you," he said, trying to calm her. "I gotta make sure that the baby's all right, okay?"

"You're having a baby?!" Carl furrowed his eyebrows. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Come on." Charlie once again touched the kid's shoulder and proposed to calm down. "Let's make sure you're all right."

She headed to the house, leaving Shane alone as Lori didn't want to see him for some reason. So Charlie helped to make her wish come true, besides the woman needed to clean herself and rest after whatever had happened in the woods. Also, Carl was more important than a cop right now. Lori should talk to him about everything, no secrets anymore. His emotions were her priority.

"I'm so sorry," she said to her son as they were sitting inside the house. "For leaving without telling you."

"It's okay. Charlie was with me." Carl tried to smile. "I wasn't scared. When's dad getting back?"

"Let's hope soon."

"I wanna be there when you tell him about the baby," Carl demanded, looking at his mother.

"Oh, love, he already knows." she touched his hand and his face fell once again to show how disappointed he was that he was the last one to find out.

"Hey, big brother, Carl," Charlie said and the little boy looked at her. "Your parents were just trying to find the right time to tell you. With everything that was going on that must have been hard."

He nodded his head with a slightly convinced expression. Then he looked at Lori. "Is it a boy or a girl?"

"Well, we won't know that until it's born," she said.

He nodded and stretched his hand to touch her belly, which was still flat. "Will I be able to feel it?"

"Not for a while," Lori said.

"You must have a lot of questions, huh? " Charlie nudged him and he smiled.

"We never had the talk." the woman said and looked at the faces of the people present in the room. "I guess we forgot."

Carl looked at the girl next to him. "Don't look at me. That's your father's job."

"Charlie's right. Wait for your father." Dale backed her up, so she smiled at the old man.

"If the baby's a girl, can we name her Sophia?" Carl's question made everyone's faces fall. That's how you kill the mood.

"Hey, dude." Shane entered the living room. "Hey, I'm sorry, bud. Okay? I thought you knew."

"Big brother Carl," he smirked. "Pretty cool, huh?"

"I say that's very cool." Shane nodded. "You, uh...Do you mind if I talk to your mom for a sec? Hmm?"

"How about a little later after she's had some rest?" Andrea asked, clearly worried about the pregnant woman.

"Lori, I had to get you back here." Walsh ignored her words. "You wouldn't have come back otherwise. How about you...How about you just hear me out, please? It's okay."

Charlie must have said it was getting more and more annoying, his behavior. He was ignoring everyone and no matter what he had to do and how he was achieving his goals. There was nothing that would have stopped him from this and that was making her scared of him a little. She looked at Lori, who was clearly worried and uncomfortable. That's why she decided to help her.

"Okay, Carl," Charlie said after catching his eyes. "Let's go. You can blow my ears off with a list of names."

"Thanks, Charlie," Shane said.

"Not doing this for you." she threw it as she was walking out of the room, trying not to slap him for being a jerk. She also looked at Lori, who muttered quiet thank you. 

The rest of the night was peaceful, and so was the morning, but there was no sight of Rick, Hershel, or Glenn. So another searching party was preparing to go after them. It was necessary to bring back Hershel as Beth was getting worse, she didn't eat or drink, and she was even more pale than before. The most harmed by the situation was Maggie. She couldn't mourn the loss of her family, she couldn't cry, because she had to take care of Beth. She had to be strong as a temporary head of the family.

"Can I get you anything?" Charlie asked, entering the room and sitting on a bed.

"Nah," she looked at her. "I just wish my dad was here."

Charlie nodded, not wanting to say something stupid as She'll be okay because they didn't know that. Maybe in the old world, it made sense, but now nothing was certain and everything could just be worse each minute. "You need to be strong for her."

"I was just reminding her about..." she smiled. "Never mind."

"No, no. Come on." Charlie said. "I'd love to hear."

"My dad would die if he heard this."

"Stories like that are the best." she smiled, encouraging her.

"I'll tell you, but only if you tell me something," Maggie said.

"Deal."

"My first summer back from college I drove home, dumped my stuff off, went straight out to the stable for a ride," she said. "My family comes back from church and Beth grabs my things and starts unpacking my stuff upstairs."

"That's sweet." Charlie smiled.

"Yeah, until this one here starts rifling through my backpack. She finds this little plastic container with these pink and green candies inside." Maggie said. "She didn't even know I was on the pill. She was so freaked out by the idea of me and boys and sex that she ran outside and chucked them in the duck pond. And I ride up, I see this, I'm screaming. She's crying and Shawn runs outside, thinks one of us is drowning." she continued. "As soon as he figures out what's going on, the jerk busts out laughing so loud that my horse rears up and gets mud all over the three of us. My dad comes out, What the heck is going on out there?" she imitated her dad yelling. Then she looked down at her sister. "And she turns around, bats her eyelids, and says, We were just swimming, Daddy. In her Sunday dress, all covered in snot and mud."

"My brothers would tell me about the pills to my dad," Charlie said. "Just to get me in trouble. They were always fighting, but if there was a chance to drag perfect Daddy's girl in trouble? They were in for that."

"You were close."

"In our way," she answered. "We weren't like you."

"So? The story." Maggie said.

Charlie didn't know which story she should tell, because all of them were from a long time ago when she actually was talking with her brothers. "Well...My family's house is in Madison. So whenever my brothers were coming back home we were driving to Daytona Beach and stayed there for two days in my grandparent's house."

"Sounds perfect."

"I thought that our gateways were my thing with my brothers and for some reason, I didn't consider my younger brother as my brother. So one time he wanted to go with us. I got in the biggest fight with my other brother Will. He said that he hated the idea of me coming with them, but he let me do this either way, so I should just shut up. I did and he came with us." Charlie said. "And we lost Peete on the first day. He was fifteen, but he was the youngest and we always treated him like a kid. Zac freaked out, worrying that he drowned in the ocean, Will was screaming at me...And I think only Finn kept his cool because he was the oldest and that's just how he was."

"And what happened?"

"We found him." Charlie smiled, trying to cover her tears. "He was near McDonald's drawing on the pavement and people gathered around. He used creed and he painted all five of us." she sniffled. "It was the best day in our lives. We went to the amusement park, we played games that we used to play, we swam in the ocean. We were kids again."

Maggie smiled through tears.

"It was the last time we were so happy together," she said. "My grandma died next summer and we never went to Daytona Beach ever again. It was the last time I talked with my brothers without screaming and fighting." she said sadly."my point is that...Rick and Glenn will get your dad back. Just like me and my brothers found Peete in the crowd of tourists."

"Glenn's a good guy," Maggie whispered.

"Yeah." Charlie nodded. "He is."

Just after those words, the missing car pulled up in front of a house and three men left it. Lori hugged her husband and Hershel opened his arms waiting for his daughter to run into them, but she just passed him and and wrapped her arms around Glenn's neck, relieved. But he pushed her away with a facial expression that one could have at a funeral and he moved towards Charlie. He hugged her and muttered I screwed up.

"Hey," she said, holding his face, so they could look each other in the eyes. "Something happened?

But before he could answer, people started to notice a guy, who was sitting on a backseat. "Who the hell is that?"

"That's Randall," Glenn said to everyone. "I want to be alone now."

Charlie looked at Maggie who was standing with two question marks in her eyes. The truth was told, she didn't know what was going on with Glenn either.

"We couldn't just leave him behind. He could've bled out if he lived that long," said Rick as everyone was sitting around the table in the dining room.

"It's gotten bad in town." Glenn nodded his head.

"Okay," Charlie said. "But what do we do with him?"

"That's a good question." Andrea nodded.

"I repaired his calf muscle as best I can, but he'll probably have nerve damage," Hershel informed, cleaning his hands from the blood. "Won't be on his feet for at least a week. When he is, we give him a canteen, take him out to the main road, and send him on his way."

"Isn't that the same as leaving him for the Walkers?" Andrea asked.

Charlie looked up at the person who just entered the room and saw how he was smiling lightly at Carol. She wasn't talking with Daryl for a long time and she missed that. He wasn't the most talkative person on the planet, but it was always a nice moment. When he caught her staring, she quickly turned her eyes away and focused back on the conversation.

"He'll have a fighting chance," Charlie said, catching Rick's way of thinking.

"Just gonna let him go?" Shane asked. "He knows where we are."

"He was blindfolded the whole way here," Rick said. "He's not a threat."

"Not a threat." the cop scoffed. "How many were there? You killed thee of their men, you took one of them hostage, but they just ain't gonna come looking?"

"They left him for dead," Rick argued. "No one is looking."

"We should still post a guard." reasoned Walsh.

"He's out cold right now, will be for hours," said Hershel.

"You know what? I'm gonna go get him some flowers and candy." said annoyed Shane and moved towards the exit. "Look at this, folks...We are back in fantasyland."

"You know, we haven't even dealt with what you did at my barn yet." said angry Hershel. "Let me make this perfectly clear, once and for all. This is my farm. Now I wanted you gone." he added. "Rick talked me out of it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. So do us both a favor. Keep your mouth shut."

After Shane everyone left the house- instead of Glenn and Maggie, they stayed behind and decided to talk. So Charlie was sitting on the stairs, waiting for an update or crying for help. Whatever.

But nothing of that happened. Instead, she saw the wooden thing, that someone stuck right in front of her eyes. She took a closer look at the thing and then looked up."What is it?"

"You want to learn, so you should have your own," Daryl said.

"You want to teach me?" she gasped.

Daryl shrugged. "You don't want anymore?"

She widened her eyes and almost screamed her answer. "No, no. I do."

And he started walking away in a direction only he knew.

"You coming or not?"

Hello hi longtime lurker first-time asker, I am very sorry that your inbox is being filled with people being not nice about the whole...everything going on right now :-/

I know essentially nothing about boats and sea related stuff and I am always in the mood to hear about someone else's special interests, so do you have a favourite interesting or positive (inasmuch as facts about shipwrecks can be positive) fact related to that topic?

I love that story about the people on the Carpathia (because it's kinda heartwarming and bittersweet in the middle of a tragedy) but that's literally all I know about any kind of big boats tbh (also as well I would love to know what got you interested if that's okay to ask??)

its probably a bit cliche but my favourite ocean liner ever is the ms stockholm.

unfortunately, there arent too many good quality photos of it back when it was first launched in 1948 since you know, it was 1948. but its this beautiful, sleek ocean liner. she was the smallest passenger liner on the north atlantic run in the 50s, and idk, i just love how she looks. theres a lot of ocean liners that looked gorgeous like the ss france or ss united states, but they were both still a bit too bulky for me. compared to the stockholm which was just perfectly balanced for her small size.

you might also notice the very angular bow (front bit) and she had that bit because she sailed near the arctic sea so she needed a strong bow that could break ice.

unfortunately, it also broke a ship. im not gonna get into all the details of the collision between stockholm and the ss andrea doria, but off the coast of nantucket in july 1956, the stockholm collided at an almost 90° with the andrea doria.

this happened due to three reasons: fog making it harder to see, the stockholm sailing in the wrong lane (ships have ocean lanes like cars have roads) and the andrea doria attempting a starboard-to-starboard passing to avoid the collision despite the accepted passing being port-to-port.

(imagine youre about to walk into someone. if you both take a step to your respective lefts, that would be port-to-port. its starboard-to-starboard if you went right. but say you went right and they went left, youd collide)

the collision caused the andrea doria to begin to list to port and eventually shed capsize. the list made half the lifeboats unusable, but the crew of the stockholm were already rowing over in their lifeboats.

and the cherry on top was the arrival of the ss île de france, who took on the bulk of remaining passengers and was labelled the hero ship.

out of the 1705 people aboard, 1655 people survived. a much higher survival rate to titanic.

like the titanic wreck, the wreck of the andrea doria is the gravesite for the 51 who didnt make it. their bodies were never recovered.

unfortunately, the wreck is a popular diving spot and looters have taken everthing worth anything from the wreck over time. and even more unfortunately, at least 22 divers have died on the wreck.

once again, these wrecks should be protected by law like the fitz is or like the uss johnston is.

also, the collision completely crushed stockholms bow:

but away from the tragedy of the collision, the stockholm went on to have a very successful career. shes had 12 different owners and 12 different names:

she was also sometimes labelled "the ship of death" due to the collision with andrea doria.

in 1989, 41 years after her launch, she was sold to star lauro lines and was converted into a cruise ship. and considering shes currently still up for sale today, she must have been a very reliable and very good cruise ship.

when she was known as athena, she was attacked by pirates in 2003. the crew prevented the pirates from boarding by firing high pressure wate Mr canons at them, but at one point twenty-nine pirate boats surrounded her. and then she was just fine and carried on with her voyage to australia m

in 2009, she got detained in france because the company had unpaid bills, and it just makes me cry laugh when they detain a whole ass ship. i just imagine some officer trying to handcuff a ship.

after the quick dip into the criminal world, she continued to sail until 2021 when she was bought by a company planning to convert her into a hotelship.

afaik, the plans were scrapped and shes back on the market, so if you somehow have the money to buy a boat, the stockholm/astoria is up for sale.

and it is fucking wild to remember that the ship that sank the andrea doria in 1956 is currently on the market and might be fixed up and ready to continue sailing.

the carpathia is a story that almost always makes me cry because its such a good example of the good that humans do. the carpathia sailed through an icefield at night at top speed, despite being much less safe than the titanic, to get there. its both heart-breaking and heart-warming.

i had a phase as a kid where i really liked big boats as well as whales and sharks, but im an afab trans guy and many family members did not think it appropriate for me.

i got back into during lockdown actually. im pretty sure i was lonely because me and my flatmate were trapped at least two hours away from our families and i hadnt seen my mom in so long. back in my first year of uni, i called her everyday.

and so there i am, feeling lonely and also being insomniac at like 3-4am maybe, and i dont know what made me think of it but suddenly i was thinking about the titanic and how lonely it must be down there all alone. im the poster kid for object empathy. and then i was just as lonely like i was reflecting that loneliness onto myself and i was near tears and just couldnt sleep.

so i gave up on sleep and realised i needed to distract myself to feel better so i just started looking up shipwrecks and ghost ships and all manner of these things. and then suddenly im watching every documentary i can find, every video on youtube and im reading someones very long essay explaining why the titanic olympic switch theory is wrong.

and here i am. it started as a hyperfixation and developed into a SpIn, and then when i could finally visit my mom and brother, i made them watch disasters at sea on the tv.

if you ever wanna learn about this sort of thing, disasters at sea is a good show to watch (its all on youtube) and oceanliner designs and big old boats on youtube are very good channels for beginners.
