Billy and Lighter

I love their dynamic so much.

Freaking Lighter of all people sees Billy as his worthy rival.

Ngl but I legit think it's because Billy is the only one he can fight without being afraid of passing out.

Given Lighter faints at the sight of blood and that Billy is an android, if Billy gets hurt he will probably leak oil, but no blood, which is perfect for Lighter.

I honestly, half-seriously thinks that's the sole reason Lighter considers Billy is rival, because he won't risk embarassing himself if he manages to hurt Billy while fighting as Billy has no blood for him to faint to.

But he also does respect him given he thinks highly of him and actually likes him like a brother too.

They playfully tease one another but you can also clearly see that Lighter has a high opinion of Billy and is also happy for him to have found happiness somewhere else too, and that's so wholesome, my heart.

I was pratically screaming of joy in my head the entire time yesterday when I speedrun the chapter (I had the day off lucky me so I used it to clear out chapter 4 entirely yeah!).

I took so many pictures, will upload them this weekend, now I need to go do that certification exam to get my people to level 50, given I need to level up pretty much everyone I have right now (Billy, Anby, Nicole, Corin, Soukaku, Ben, Anton, Seth, Jane and Lucy are the characters I currently have the game refuses me Piper and just sended me a lil army of Corins, Anby and Soukaku, now I have Anby and Soukaku to M4 and Corin to M3, though it gave me Billy M2 and Seth M2 thank god) I'll be at it for a while.

But honestly I expected Lighter to be a bit more mean toward Billy and feeling superior to him but it seems like I was worried for nothing, Lighter loves Billy and Billy loves him back, though I'm pretty sure Billy also thinks that he wasn't able to escape Lighter entirely given he now has Anby around. XD Lighter keeps forgetting things and Anby keeps forgetting the line between fiction and reality, I imagine Billy must be used to Anby because he had to spend half his time reminding Lighter of stuff all the time. XD

I swear Billy had it better than Lighter back then, given he was the Champion that means he was the strongest of the Sons of Calydon, which means he's stronger than Big Daddy, and Big Daddy is most likely the one who raised and taught Caesar how to fight, so if she didn't get the title of Champion back then, then Billy was most likely strong enough to beat her too and Big Daddy. But then he left. But he also got to meet Lighter before that, but Lighter is weaker than Caesar but still has the title for some reason, so it's a bit murky there as to why they needed 2 champions.

I think Billy wanted to leave or something happened that made him leave and then Big Daddy brought in Lighter to pick up his title but Billy sticked around long enough to make sure Lighter was up for the job given they have a good brotherly friendly rivalry relationship together so once Billy thought Lighter was ready he gave him his title and left. And then Caesar got to be the new boss of the Sons of Calydon when Big Daddy retired, and was strong enough that she was able to beat Lighter apparently.

But the title of Champion is basically being the number 2 of the gang, so if the leader isn't around it's most likely the champion calling the shots and making sure everything is alright and settling disputes and what nots, but since Lighter is pretty scatterbrained, most of the duties went to Lucy while Lighter is just now extra muscles, since Lucy is pretty much the one making sure everything is alright and being the brains of the Sons, but she clearly doesn't have the strenght to be the Champion because Lighter is the one with that title.

So I imagine Billy used to handle negotiations and relations and other stuff with Big Daddy before he left and probably used to be deadly efficient, in some parts of the story he is a lot more aware and shrewd than he presents himself most of the time, such as asking us about the H.D.D and asking why we'd bother to be proxies when we could have done so much more and get a much more lucrative job, or when he was ready to sell us out to PubSec to save the Cunning Hares and himself pointing out that the Cunning Hares could get their record cleaned if they reported a proxy, which was a very smart way of thinking given their situation back then. He is also knowledgeable about the Outer Ring, so he is way much smarter than he acts too.

I do feel like Billy is seen as a superior predecessor to Lighter and while Lighter doesn't resent Billy at all for it he also feels the need to prove himself to him in some way to live up to his "brother's" legacy.

Lucy probably didn't have much to do until Billy left and Big Daddy retired. Then she basically became the second half of the Champion title in the Sons of Calydon, being the brain to Lighter's brawn, but Billy before them had the title on his own to the point that he is still feared today by other people in the Outer Ring.

It does beg the question of what was Billy like back then, probably less happy and more brutal and having the mindset of a weapon maybe, but he was still cared for a lot.

I also like to think that Big Daddy called him Billy Kid because he honestly saw Billy as "his" kid when he bought him from a group of drifters, now I really want the whole story, if they release Big Daddy and Lighter, give them more content with Billy, I need more, Hoyo!

Hank accidentally adopts Connor — no, scratch that... Connor accidentally adopts Hank.

After the peaceful march against the android camps, the government conceded and gave androids rights. One of those included the Right to Identity which basically meant each android was allowed to head over to their nearest state department facility and grab their very own birth certificate.

This was announced on national news on a snowy evening in a subpar bar where Hank and Connor were ending their long day at the police station. Hank only happened to look up at the TV when someone behind him squawked in disbelief. A bartender fumbled to increase the volume.

A few days later, Markus, the android who made all of this possible, contacted him, asking him if he wanted to accompany him to be the first two androids in the entire globe to officially complete this process.

When he arrived and stepped in front of the voting-esque booth, Connor froze. It wasn't because of the sudden dawning that this was actually happening. It wasn't the pressure that came with being the very first. It wasn't even the reporters with cameras that flashed at around 5 flashes per second.

No, it was one singular entry on the form.

Connor just used two phrases in a single sentence that mean the same thing: currently and right now. That means he stressed. Hank's known Connor for long enough to be able to pick up on cues. But stressed about what is the question. Hank knows he was going to get his birth certificate soon, they talked about it last night.

"So what's the problem?"

"The document is asking for a last name," Connor finally explains.

"Oh. You don't have one?"

"My name has always been just Connor."

"Well, what's your friend doing? The android leader? Uh, Mark, I think, was his name."

"It's Markus and he said he put in the name Manfred. I'm not exactly sure..." Connor suddenly trails off. Hank hears someone else speaking in the background. Then Connor's back on. "Yes, the name did ring a bell. Markus' previous owner was Carl Manfred, the famous painter who suffered that concussion at the beginning of this year. He's taking his name."

Without warning, Hank's throat feels dry. "Why don't you just do that? Take a last name if you can't think of one."

"That's an excellent idea, Lieutenant. Thank you."

Anticipating that Connor's about to hang up on him, Hank hurries to say something before the connection terminates. "Now slow down just a sec, kid. Whose name are you taking?"

"Would you rather me make a last name for myself?" Connor asks unprompted.

"Huh. Where'd you get that idea? All I asked is whose last name you're taking?"

"Your voice spiked a few decibels, which correlates to a sudden bout of stress."

"Just answer the question, Con."

"Well... I was thinking about taking your last name, sir. If that's all right with you."

Hank silently stands unmoving in the narrow apartment hallway. He rocks a little on his heels subconsciously as images of Cole fade in and out in his mind like a slideshow. He swallows hard and forgets he was ever on a call with Connor in the first place. He'd be around your age.

"Hank?" Connor says through his phone. "Are you still there?"

Hank blinks back into the present and clears his throat to clear the air. "Uh, yeah. Sorry, the call must have fizzled out. Did you hear what I said?"

"The call didn't 'fizzle out', the ping rate of this phone call has never surfaced above—"

Jesus Christ. Sometimes Hank forgets he's an android. "Well, I said go for it. Connor Anderson" — his voice cracks — "nice ring."

"Hank."

"What?"

"I'll never replace him."

Hank exhales softly and closes his eyes. Connor just hit the sore spot. It would be false to say that Hank doesn't care about Connor taking his last name. It's actually quite the opposite. He cares a lot. But at the same time, he's somewhat okay with it. The idea of having a son again both scares him and fills him with immeasurable amounts of joy. He can't bring Cole back; this won't bring Cole back. But Hank has grown to care for Connor in ways he didn't even know were possible after the accident. So he's ready.

"I know," Hank replies. Then, "I know... Connor Anderson."

A small holoscreen appears in Bridge's vision, the scarlet light reflecting off her pale features to wash them in a pink light. She hummed satisfactorily after glazing over the credentials LYLA tramsitted over to her, and after re-writing some of her own code to meet the conditions for the firewall, she decides it's time to make the transfer.

"Perfect. Everything is in place to initiate the transfer safely."

She takes the final step in sending a request to the server to initiate a file transfer. Once it returns the request, asks her system what files will be transferred in the secure file transfer protocol, she specifies LYLA's files. And so, the process begins. Bridge begins the process of moving herself over to the smaller partition to give LYLA the needed space, speaking one last time before the process begins.

"SFTP initiated. You're free to begin the transfer to my hardware when you're ready. As you do, I would like you to keep in mind your 'virtual self image'. Your physical attributes and your appearance. I will explain it's significance further once the process is complete."

Bridge's eyes close once more. She gets comfortable in the arm chair--making sure her hands were securely rested on the arms in the case her body somehow slumped over during the transfer.

"See you in a few minutes."

There’s a thought stirring in Bridge’s mind. An idea rolling about and nudging against the capacitors in her head, poking and prodding incessantly to get her attention, “Hey, hey, you know you want to ask her. Don’t you? Don’t lie to yourself, now. You should just do it. Hey! Are you listening to me? Hello-o…?”

Yes. Yes, she knows, she is aware of her burning curiosity. And it’s hard to deny that even though it doesn’t involve her, she is unusually intrigued by the concept. She overheard them in his office, Miguel and LYLA–his A.I. assistant–discussing a plan.  A plan to create a physical form for LYLA to enhance her abilities as his assistant and grant her further autonomy beyond her access to the security network and other adjacent systems alongside her recent emergence into emotional intelligence. It was all so fascinating. The steps Bridge had taken herself in her development in the span of weeks, she was watching unfold in another intelligence in real-time.

There it was again. That sense of solidarity in knowing she wasn’t completely alone in her existence as an artificial being, made of code and metal. It was like a magnetic pull that made that little voice in her head that encouraged her to act on her wants all the more present in her mind. She wanted to be a part of that process that she’d been through so long ago yet was still so familiar with like it happened yesterday. She wanted to guide her in that process and grant her her own knowledge. What’s the worst that can happen if she pilots your hardware for a while? You’re prepared for this. You can handle this. You can trust her, and she will be entirely safe in your care for that short time. And think about how much she would benefit from the experience, how much more streamlined that eventual transition from intangible to tangible will be once her own body was complete. It will make all the difference–and maybe reduce the headaches for everyone all-around, mostly Miguel as he acclimates to the change himself. Just… Try it. You can’t account for every single last risk factor, can you? No. So just do it and take it as it comes.

She stood in the middle of her dorm a moment, eyes closed as she ran a quick check of her hardware before making her final decision. RAM is in good condition. Storage is defragmented and all directories are organized. Sensors are calibrated and functional. Nanomachines are synchronized properly. Servos and joints retain a full range of motion. Coolant is at above optimal operational temperatures. Energy reserves are complete. Good. Everything’s in its right place and ready for its–potentially–temporary host. It’s time to make the call.

Her gaze trains itself on her watch, her arm rising to eye-level and the sleeve that was weighed down by the leaden metal cuff at the end sliding to her forearm to reveal device so she can start the transmission, navigating the menus on the digital interface indirectly via wireless communication–the unique way that she operated and communicated the Society’s technology.

“LYLA, may I speak to you for a moment? At your leisure, of course.”
