I love the pet whump
Any ideas for someone who was publicly a pet of rich/famous whumper
There's a couple different possible setups... love imagining the logistics of a world with casual, accepted human/android/anthro/etc pets. Are celebrities bringing them leashed on the runway like purse dogs? Are they included in "no pet" signs outside establishments?
My first thought for this ask was Whumpee as the pet of a popular Youtuber/livestreamer. Like. Take every horrible thing that's ever proliferated from prank channels and "funny animal" channels.
Pranking my pet GONE WRONG!! (Pet becomes genuinely terrified and has a panic attack on camera)
Pet's been acting out.... Twitch chat gets to vote on how I punish them! On camera! 💕
Twitch chat votes to be nice to pet. Whumper makes them say thank you to the camera.
Whumper takes brand sponsorships from companies that make "training" (torture) tools for pets.
But they also make rewards like treats and nice pillows! So it's fine!
Humiliating videos of pet learning a new skill or trick. It's very cute and endearing how gently they're being condescended to.
A couple other Youtubers raise concerns that Whumper is mistreating pet; Whumper responds with videos of pet curled up asleep in their lap like, "Would a bad owner do THIS??"
Pet is eventually rescued by or sold to a rights advocacy group, but lives in constant fear of being recognized.
Pet has a really, really hard time believing in kindness for the sake of kindness. Whenever Caretaker is gentle with them, they start automatically looking around for a camera or a hidden trap.

What was the moment that made you fully go “Oh fuck Generative AI is dangerous”
Because everyone has their moment when they realize there is no place at all for Generative AI if we want a good future
so there were a couple different things. i think it was summer of 2023, there was a whole thing about chat gpt being able write a stony omegaverse fic, and i remember going “oh- so they probably stole fanfic, i don’t fuck with that shit.” and it wasn’t really something that came up for a while, but like at family events and shit when inevitably i get asked about tech stuff bc i’m the oldest nephew/grandkid/cousin, i’d be like “yeah no they’re probably stealing shit and also fuck you i write my own shit thank you very much”
at some point last year when character ai started to get a lot more popular (or maybe i was just seeing more stuff about it), i just got the vibe that this was going to go downhill very fast
there was also the thing with open ai using scarlett johansson’s voice, and at that point i started to be a lot more concerned about the ethical issues surrounding ai
but then last semester i took a 7ish week seminar on gaston bachelard’s the poetics of space (written in i think the 50s, a difficult but super enjoyable read), and in the introduction he wad talking about poetic images and humanity and stuff, and then i started thinking about generative ai more. and i ended up writing my final paper for the class on art as something fundamentally human, and the experience of experiencing art as both something unique to the individual and also as something shared by virtue of the human condition. and one of the reasons i picked this topic was so i could be like “yeah no keep generative ai the fuck out of art, it’s stripping the humanity out of something inherently human,” and now here we are
also towards the end of the class was when suchir balaji, the guy who blew the whistle on open ai’s copyright infringement “killed himself” a couple days later (you know, like whistleblowers are wont to do /s), and at that point i was like “yeah no this is significantly more unethical than most people are talking about”
and while there are absolutely so many environmental issues with generative ai, my dislike and distrust of it has always come from the place of a writer, of someone who’s been in creative spaces for the vast majority of my life, as a humanities (specifically liberal arts/philosophy) major, as someone who has been a massive reader their entire life, and as someone who has a lot of Feelings about art and storytelling as something inherent to the human condition, a representation of human emption and creativity, and ultimately our desire to be understood in our humanity
i’ve also always loved sci fi, shit like i, robot and do androids dream of electric sheep? (the book that blade runner was based on). i have so other sci fi books about ai on my tbr, but if anyone has any recommendations, please (!!) send them my way (next up is i have no mouth but i must scream). i also recently got a bunch of books about ai, and like its relation to humanity as well as ethics shit, which i’m also very excited about (shout out thrift books!!). i just finished unmasking ai by dr joy buolamwini, which is about her work and research in ai development, specifically what she calls the ‘coded gaze,’ which is the racist and sexist algorithmic biases in facial recognition technology, and some ethical issues that come up with training. i can’t recommend it enough. another good rec about ai is bury your gays by chuck tingle, which is another fucking masterpiece
my god do i love yapping. and i’ll do it at the slightest provocation (this is a threat)
#i just have a lot of thoughts about art and humanity ya know#cringe is dead except for generative ai#keep ai out of fandom#keep ai out of art#ai is theft#character ai is a plague upon fandom#generative ai

cyberlife putting magnets in connors feet is canon to me now. i left the fandom some time ago, now im back, so i can enjoy all the fanworks that came out while my brainrot was dormant. but im so shocked at how widespread the notion that hankcon is problematic now is. it was the main ship a couple of years ago? and now the main tag is flooded with negativity. and idk if my claims hold any water, but i feel like the dynamics that were quite commonly used for hank x connor now are used for reed900? when did this fandom decide that two characters which 1) appear rarely and only to be an asshole and 2) doesn't even have any lines are a better ship than those two bastards who are literally insane about each other? (none of their interactions are normal, but its so in character for both of them, i love it) anyway, i hope you didnt have to experience any of said negativity and are doing well, cause i loved your fanfics <3
Honestly I forget that Connor’s magnet feet aren’t canon—how that clumsy-ass android who botched a barrel-roll into a first story window managed to keep his feet planted on a moving train is the biggest plot hole in all of DBH.
Welcome back to the fandom! Sometimes I wish I had been here from the very beginning, because even when I showed up in 2020 it was like this. I remember wandering into the ship tag, naive and desperate for conktent, and finding nothing but “hankcon shippers are perverts” and literal comparisons between a thirty year old man and a six year old boy 🥲 I pretty much avoided tumblr entirely because of it and stayed exclusively on twitter the first couple years! (RIP.) I feel like tumblr has actually gotten better since then? That said, in the four years I’ve been here I’ve somehow managed to avoid any direct hate, probably partially through luck and partially because I’m not afraid to use the block button. It’s never personal, it’s just that I am here for one thing and one thing only and that is old man yaoi. I would also advise staying off of ig and tiktok for fandom content because good god, people are MEAN over there.
As for reed900, the ship doesn’t really do much for me personally, but one thing that I really love about it is that it’s basically fanfiction of fanfiction. Like, fans basically created that ship and even their characters out of next to nothing, and made something so compelling that it’s now the fandom’s most popular ship on ao3! That is so cool! As someone who doesn’t care about the DBH canon like, at all, and is way more into the fans’ creations and creativity, I have a deep appreciation for reed900 shippers even if I don’t subscribe to their newsletter.
I do agree that it’s very similar to the hankcon dynamic, which, who can blame them? It’s a great dynamic. And I don’t begrudge anyone for not wanting to ship Hank and Connor. But when it comes to people who ship reed900 but actively hate hankcon, those who call hankcon disgusting and cry about having to see it while never seeming to take any actual steps to avoid it? I dunno, I smell ageism in their hearts, and to them I say—old people are hot, and it’s not our fault if you have bad taste in men 😌
Thank you so much for your kind words about my fics 💖
#i'm gonna go ahead and tag this#fandom wank#or like#discourse#(or whatever idk I'm old)#because it kinda contains discussions of ship wars and i don't like ship wars but i still have ✨opinions✨#cue epicqtefail's 'that's my OPINIONNNNNNN' connor#anyway#hankcon#ask

Hey folks, it’s been a while. You may know me for my Choices fan arts, or as one of the artists in @itlivesproject . Im the one that worked on the m!mcs and Linky’s undies, and was also the one responsible for Matthias infamous red brief 😂 (if you had seen it, then good for you 😘)
As you all know, after ILW ended, a lot of members moved on to work on many new and different projects, including me. And so after two months of dedication and hard work, I am happy to tell you guys about the release of my short BL 18+ visual novel called:
TAG TEAM TENNIS 🎾
What is Tag Team Tennis about?
At Hartbridge University, tennis reigns supreme. Unfortunately for Ace Ackerman, that world of popularity is not his. He may love tennis, but he accepted years ago that he would never be good enough to compete against the other players.
That is, until the legendary Dennis Tenney took him under his wing. Now, after a year of rigorous training, Ace and Dennis must compete together in the Tag Team Tennis tournament, one of the biggest competitions in Hartbridge.
Help the Dare Doubles to defeat their opponents, gain the respect of the other university students, and maybe even find a little love along the way.
Features:
- Over 21000 words.
- 4 unique Endings.
- 5 gorgeous CGs (15 if included variants) done by yours truly.
Credits:
I can’t say thank you enough to mod win for helping me with the editing to make the story as compelling as possible. And thanks to mod shionch for answering all of my coding questions and helping me with the Android port. The game wouldn’t be where it at today without you guys.

Locations in Sapporo
things in my personal life has calmed down somewhat for the time being so I figured I'd write up an easy lore post that I completely forgot I could make so here we are
I wanted to list some common locations found in Sapporo as featured in Vocal Android! I haven't actually talked about the setting too much and while I'm kinda bad at designing locations, I figured I could at least talk about them a little
But, yeah, I'll do my best to explain, so some lore under the cut?
Crypton Laboratories HQ/Crypton Towers: The place where the CVs live and where Meiko and Kaito work. A huge white, gray, and cyan building shaped like a C if you look at it from above, it's home to Crypton's various research labs. The building has floors entirely dedicated to be Miku, the twins and Luka's living spaces, and they each have their own color-coded rooms and living areas. There's a recording and dance studio in the building for the CVs to do their idol work and music playing, as well as a virtual reality training room. There's also the CVs' very own superhero base of sorts, which Gumi helped design, and allows the crew to oversee the city in case danger makes itself known (it's also a convenient place to hang out and take a nap). There's also a sizeable garage below the building, where Rin keeps the road roller.
Kenmochi Academy High School: Miku, Rin and Len's school. A large, clean campus made of three V-shaped buildings with their points pointing towards each other and hexagon-shaped windows. A pretty high-bar school with a lot of recent technology, it's one of the more popular and well-known high schools in town (and thus, an excellent candidate for Meiko's goal of having the CVs interact with humans their age). It is headed by Principal Sasaki. (Current Student List: Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Kobayashi Matcha, Masaoka Azuki, Yumemi Nemu, Hibiki Lui, Akira Kano/Arsloid, Otomachi Una, Sato Sasara, Suzuki Tsudumi, Kokone Aime, Kizuna Akari, Futaba Minato, Hoshino Ichika, Tenma Saki, Hinomori Shiho, Mochizuki Honami, Koharu Rikka (formerly), Suzune Ring)
Ichikawa Academy High School: Gumi's school, a high school on the eastern side of the city. It's a more "normal" high school, less flashy than Kenmochi and looking more typical, but still has a few good programs to its name, including its science program (which Gumi tries to participate in). (Current Student List: Megumi "Gumi" Nakashima, Kotonoha Akane and Aoi, Tohoku Zunko, Gahata Meiji, Kamishiro Rui, Kusanagi Nene, Tenma Tsukasa, AiSuu, Tsuina-chan)
Utahako Elementary School: The local elementary school a block or two away from Kenmochi. It's a modest little elementary school, having been newly refurbished from an older building. Many of the students that go there end up graduating to Kenmochi later. Kiyoteru teaches here. (Current Student List: Kaai Yuki, Oliver Twitchell, Rana, Macne Petit, Tohoku Kiritan, Otomachi Unagi, Ryuuto Nakashima)
The Macne Cafe: A fresh-looking little internet cafe that sits in the town plaza and is the CVs' favorite hangout spot. Established by the Macne Family, it's become slowly but surely known around town for its delicious green apple cheesecake and desserts. Nana has been trying various ways to spread their customer base further.
The V5: A swanky nightclub and bar that is also in the plaza, run by four friends: Amy, Chris, Kaori and Ken. Many of the adult characters come there to drink and chat a bit.
UTAU Studios: A record label company and radio studio stationed in the industry hub of town, notable for its large staff and loooong list of talents. The studio runs a daily radio broadcast that's fairly popular, and their top talent is Namine Ritsu (or it was, anyway).
Sapporo University: The local college. A bit of an older building since it's been there basically forever compared to a lot of the rest of futuristic city. Has a small, colorful dormitory community next to it where students stay. (Current Student List: Galaco, Po-uta, Tsurumaki Maki, Shirosaki Yuudai; Utatane Piko isn't a student but he lives there)
Kamukura Shrine: A humble shrine that's only a little ways away from the beach, and is where most of the cast goes for holiday celebrations (such as New Years). It's headed by Kigashima Sourin and his protégés, Kurono Takehiro, Wakamatsu Akashi, Aoyama Ryuusei and Shirakami Koutarou, who are training to be proper priests. They also have their shrine maiden, a fussy teenage girl named Lumi who claims to be a jellyfish kami from the sea. Her antics tend to bring a lot of visitors.
SEKAI Auditorium: A venue a few blocks away from Crypton HQ and the main place where Miku and friends perform locally. Very spacious and known to host tons of acts, including smaller ones like local bands, singers and theater shows. Also functions as a sort of convention center at times. However, it's tendency to get raided by supervillains (mostly in pursuit of Miku and co.) has given it a bit of a weird reputation.
The Nebula: A recently-established nightclub in the plaza run by American DJ CYBER DIVA (and her partner CYBER SONGMAN), who is also the headlining act of the place. Used to have a bit of a rivalry with Miku, but they're both over it. Gets a lot of younger customers than the ones at the V5.
Dr. Momone's House: A modern house in a quiet neighborhood next to the industrial part of town where Dr. Momone, Momo and Defoko live. Their neighbors consist of Yufu (who lives down the lane), Eru (who lives at the far end of the lane), Tsukishiro Hakupo and his servant bot Kunishiki (who live next door) and Sensei.
Gumi's Apartment: Gumi, Gakupo and Ryuuto's small apartment in a building not too far from Crypton HQ. Not the nicest apartment that ever was, but it's homey.
Gin no Hana: A old-fashioned restaurant that has reasonable business and is popular due to the comfy atmosphere. Managed by Ginsaki and his wife, Koharu.
The Old Soul Theater: An old theater in town that's mainly still in the city for the sake of preservation, but still has small plays and acts now and again. Has been turned into an acting school of sorts by Miriam Stocks, a theater connoisseur.
Ruko's candy shop: A hole-in-the-wall shop in an alleyway managed by Yokune Ruko, where they sell candy, snacks and cheap cups of drip coffee. Totally not shady in the slightest. Is almost constantly out of coffee-flavored hard candy because Ruko keeps eating it.
Meiko's apartment: Meiko's home, a simple apartment in a simple complex where she crashes after a long day at the lab. The CVs have never been to it.
There's probably more than this but yeah :>
#vocal android verse#finally posts this after this has been in my drafts for like. half a year#but here!! lore!!! kinda.

As midnight struck on this warm summer's eve the sound of static rang out across the city. It was distracting, piercing, and so incessantly loud that it would have stirred almost anyone from their slumber. A hiss that sounded from each and every television for roughly thirty seconds, the sound and distorted display eventually cut out before each screen began to play something unusual.
It was a commercial for a multimedia project of some sort. A game? A television series? A collectable merch line? It was all of these things at once but the commercial was rather old-fashioned. Like something from the 90s.
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? PICK UP SPIRAMONSTERS TODAY!
The advertisement ended with this seemingly standard line and yet as it came to an end and regular programming returned, the quiet city came to life with surprise. At the side of every character that had been brought into the city from another world was a strange creature, one that embodied traits from the person they had appeared beside.
Their very own Spiramonster!
--------------------
"Ofiuco... When you said you wanted to run a "social experiment" you never indicated you'd be creating this much data." One Star remarked to the android that sat before a wall of computer monitors that reflected their light off of her artificial eyes. Ofiuco did not reply immediately and instead continued to type, fingers moving at an inhuman pace as she finalized the programming.
When she finally finished she spun several times in her chair with a blank expression on her face. She was an eccentric young lady. "I just wanted to see how they reacted. This is a classic concept, isn't it? After all, they deserve to have fun once in a while too."
---------------------
After a very confusing night caring for some very cryptic critters, at 7am the next morning some context was finally provided to the city by the way of another television broadcast featuring Ofiuco in a lab coat. "Welcome to the world of... Oh... I should avoid copying too much, shouldn't I? Um. As you all may have noticed you've each received a Spiramonsters. They are very much real. At least as real as you are."
"You'll be taking care of them for a short time. Raise them. Train them. Befriend them. Love them. But also you should partake in our Spiramonster Cup, known otherwise as The Challenger's Road. It would provide us with some very valuable data." She raised her hand and a map of the island appeared with various locations marked with star symbols. "There are challenges for your Spiramonsters to accomplish at these points. Complete one of the eight and we'll reward you. I pinky promise."
Was she not going to elaborate on that?
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Welcome to our twenty-fifth event, THE CHALLENGER'S PATH!
It's probably very obvious what inspired this event, but it was naturally drawn from the very popular monster collecting genre.
This event is the first of two new events that will be run over the summer. The second will run in August and will be connected in terms of story but will be a different kind of event entirely!
The event ends at 11:59:59PM EST on July 21st.
After the event ends any Spiramonsters created will lose their physical forms, however you will be able to preserve them in Spiragotchi devices you receive for completing a challenge (see: The Challenger's Road).
There are plans to make the monsters you create more permanent fixtures in the group, however this won't happen until the conclusion of the August event!
SPIRAMONSTER GUIDE
So what is a Spiramonster? It's a monster designed after the character that acts as their companion, possessing traits of the character that it has this close relationship with.
These means that a Spiramonster could share physical, personality, or ability traits with your character and we encourage you to design them with these things in mind, though you don't need to if you want to design something completely original!
Each Spiramonster can have up to five attacks that you can base on your muse's own abilities / personality / etc. For example: if your character was an idol you could make up music related abilities, or if your character has like super strength you could give them a strength related move.
Simply for comparison's sake, a Spiramonster cannot be stronger than your average Pokemon. It also cannot be any larger than a horse. You can model them after animals, machines, objects, whatever you'd like so long as you don't just make them little people.
On that note whether or not they can communicate in the human tongue is up to you!
Otherwise feel free to be as creative as you would like! You can describe them with words or if you feel up to it you can demonstrate how they look with other talents!
Feel free to name them whatever you'd like (so long as it's appropriate)!
You can give a copy of your own Spiramonster to a friend via an app that will appear on your character's phone. Whether you want to give it for free, after beating you in a battle, or for money or a favour is up to you though! You can only have a party of five Spiramonsters however!
You do not need to create a Spiramonster for event participation. However you must write with someone who has one and we do encourage it, because they will be relevant in the August event in some capacity.
THE CHALLENGER'S ROAD
Ofiuco mentioned the Spiramonster Cup, otherwise known as The Challenger's Road. So what is this?
A map has been included on everyone's phones that marks challenge locations on the island map. Go there to be given a challenge by one of the Stars or other bodies involved in the city project in the form of a projection.
The challenges will range in goals from battles, to obstacle courses, to treasure hunts; there's a great variety! You can find a list of these challenges here.
Complete one of these challenges either in five-hundred words (per participant) across one or multiple threads or in five-hundred word drabble to unlock 500 Stars and a Spiragotchi device that will allow you to take care of your Spiramonster in pocket form when the event ends!
You do not need to complete a challenge to get rank-up participation! Any post partaking in the event will do!
As always if you have any questions about the event do not hesitate to ask! We'll get back to you as soon as you can!

Ok, how would you feel about my idea for an alternate 24th Budokai AU: here, Vegeta and Piccolo manage to destroy Gero and 19 wholesale, Trunks takes them all at their word that the Androids were defeated handily, and with that everyone agrees to enter the upcoming 24th Budokai (timeline may need to be switched around a bit, we don’t know when exactly it happened. Satan’s overconfidence at the Cell Games may have originated from a quite recent Budokai win). Anyway, since we know this tournament also featured the inaugural Juniors division, Gohan ends up fighting a young Videl in the finals.
Meanwhile, the main tournament bracket turns out like:
Match 1
- Krillin vs. Tenshinhan
Match 2
- Son Goku vs. Future Trunks
Match 3
- Piccolo vs. Mr. Satan
Match 4
- Vegeta vs. Yamcha.
The tournament would take place shortly after Goku wakes up, so everyone is pretty much exactly where they were power wise at the beginning of the Android arc. A few notes:
- The quality of fighter has noticeably dropped - guys like Namu, Chappa and Tao remember how hopelessly outclassed they were last time, so the guys entering here are the noobs we saw at the 25th Budokai: Pintar, Jewel, Killa, Mighty Mask, (pre-Majin) Spopovich and of course, Mr. Satan himself
- Krillin-Tien would be a very technical, throwback to the old tournament fights, with Krillin winning to finally shut up the weirdos who supposedly genuinely believe Toriyama wasn’t including Tien when he stated the former was the strongest Earthling
- Goku and Trunks would quickly break the “no Super Saiyan” rule, with Goku coming out on top but Trunks still viewing the contest as a positive learning experience
- Piccolo-Satan would be a pure comedy bout. Piccolo wins with ease, although if the Buu arc still played out similarly in this AU it may prove to be disastrous later on
- Vegeta-Yamcha would play out similarly to Piccolo-Krillin from the 23rd tournament. Vegeta is overconfident, gives Yamcha a beat down initially but Yamcha turns it around and genuinely hurts (base) Vegeta with the Rōgafūfūken and Sōkidan, before he angrily ends the fight in retaliation. Goku, Krillin, Tien and Gohan all rush to the ring and congratulate Yamcha on the effort, while Vegeta quietly (and begrudgingly) gives out some praise
- Goku and Vegeta obviously advance to the finals. Don’t have much to say on a Goku-Krillin rematch, but I’m sure someone could come up with an interesting take on it. SSJ Vegeta-Piccolo is obviously a very popular hypothetical in the fandom
- The Goku-Vegeta finale would probably end with either A. A confused Imperfect Cell showing up and a big 1st Broly film style group battle taking place, or B. Perfect Cell showing up, who found Gero’s lab and absorbed 17 and 18 in secret, declare his intent to host the Cell Games and allowing the Z-Fighters time to train for it.
That’s a rough, very long winded outline anyway. What do you think?
This is a fun idea! I love Tien so a part of me wants him to win, but I know Krillin is supposed to be stronger...I just hope Tien puts up a hell of a fight :) If you ever expand on this, I recommend making the characters use some new techniques (either ones they came up with or existing techniques they haven't been shown using before but learned), as that was something I enjoyed immensely about past tournaments. Yamcha, Tien and Piccolo could use Kaio-Ken, for example.

Wow. There so much to unpack here, and as a HS teacher, I feel like I need to.
First of all, comparing pre-1970 English literature to German is ridiculous. Simply put, The Outsiders is not written in a different language. Neither are I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, The Autobiography of Malcom X, or The Lord of the Rings. Also according to this claim, we should translate Fahrenheit 451, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", and the entire Beatles canon.
But if your point is actually about Shakespeare (which it seems to be), then let's talk about Shakespeare.
While technically considered modern English, Shakespeare and his contemporaries are difficult to read because English has changed a lot since the seventeenth century, and we no longer have the context to understand all these words. For example, Shakespeare wrote a lot of dick jokes which are often lost on a contemporary audience that doesn't understand seventeenth century English slang.
But Shakespeare also used a lot of words and phrases that we use today. In fact, Shakespeare invented a lot of words and phrases that we use today. So being exposed to the original text not only helps students to better understand the language they are using, it shows them just how fluid language is--and always has been! Shakespeare coined new words all the time. You can too. The works of Shakespeare are a great example of linguistic productivity.
All this being said, we do translate Shakespeare. Sparknotes' No Fear Shakespeare editions are very popular in schools because they show the original text and a modern version side by side. So the students are exposed to the original text, but they're also not bogged down in it. When I was in school, I also had multiple teachers give us the assignment to make our own translations, either independently or in groups, depending the play and student skill level. And it's pretty easy to access hi-lo versions for struggling readers (some of which are just very very abridged) as well as graphic novel editions. There are options, and we use them.
But the age of a text isn't the only thing that makes it difficult to understand. Jane Eyre is a far easier read than Heart of Darkness, despite being published about 50 years earlier (which also happens to be about the same distance between today and 1970). Personally, I think Jane Eyre is also an easier read than No-No Boy, which came out in the 1950s.
Shakespeare uses a lot of poetry and uses figurative language. But half the English language is figurative language. Which is why exposure to Shakespeare is good for students--it can help them to understand idioms and metaphors, which we use all the time, many of which, as previously stated, originated with Shakespeare.
Finally, Shakespeare is difficult to read because, well... it's not meant to be read. It's meant to be performed. Which is why good English teachers do things like bringing in a box of props for students to incorporate into readers' theater and design costumes for the characters. Because studying a Shakespeare play by reading it is a little like studying Van Gogh through only written descriptions of his paintings.
Students don't hate literature because it's hard to read. They hate it because it's not salient. Therefore, we need to present texts in a relatable way, which can, but does not have to, include translation. For example:
--a college theater program presents "Shakespeare on the Rails" because when the characters are commuters on the train with you, the language is surprisingly easier to understand.
--A high school in the Marshall Islands puts on a production of A Midsummer Nights Dream, changing the setting and some of the charcters to fit Marshallese mythology, and translating the mechanicals' lines into Marshallese while keeping the nobles' lines in the original Shakespeare
--An HS teacher in the rural US uses the No Fear Shakespeare editions in her class and frontloads Romeo and Juliet with the knowledge that the characters are teenagers.
This last one was one of my co-workers and resulted in half a dozen ninth graders, in my classroom, complaining not about reading Romeo and Juliet, but about how immature and stupid the characters are. Does he really think he's in love? He thought he was in love with Rosalind yesterday! And the Friar told them they shouldn't rush to get married. They should have taken his advice. They're so stupid! (I had a similar event this year with eleventh graders complaining about what a b**** Abigail Williams is, even though The Crucible was not translated for them.)
Yes, translation is one tool we can use to make a text more accessible, which is why it's already actively being used in classrooms. But to assume it the either the only tool or the best tool (or that it's always necessary for something more then 50 years old) is both an insult to the intelligence of our students and an excuse for educators to be lazy.
We need to stop blaming the texts and start blaming the curricula, which, more often than not, use a read-the-text-answer-the-question method which is liable to bore anyone to tears. I didn't fall in love with Shakespeare in high school because I answered dozens of comprehension questions. I fell in love with Shakespeare in second grade. Watching Wishbone (which uses the original language).
youtube
Our school curricula are not designed in such a way as to make the texts relevent, nor do they invite students to engage with them on their own terms. Likewise, many teachers are never given the toolkit to do this (I know I wasn't!). But if we take the time to make the characters real and relevent, students buy into it. Sure, use the translation. But also show clips from The Complete Works of Shakespeare abridged or other adaptations. Invite students to create their own adaptations. And definitely, definitely, teach the dick jokes. Contrary to popular belief, teenagers like learning. They just don't like being talked down to.
(On that note, this is the same problem with the math curriculum. Students don't hate math because they "want to play with blocks." They hate math because abstract equations are not salient information. And quite frankly, playing with blocks sounds like a great way to teach geometry in a salient way. Blocks are, in fact, geometry.)

How to Get More Out of Your Meditation App

Consistency makes all the difference. Pick a regular time and stick with it, even if it’s just five minutes a day. Let reminders nudge you—think of them as digital bells, not nags. Mix in breathing exercises or white noise for extra calm. If you struggle one day, don’t sweat it. Progress isn’t about perfection. Ever tried keeping a mindfulness journal after you meditate? It can help you spot patterns in your mood and focus. If you need more daily hacks for well-being (especially when you’re short on time), check out Holistic Health Hacks for a Busy Lifestyle.
Choosing the Right App for Meditation for Calm and Focus
Identify your main goal—do you want pure relaxation, laser attention, or better sleep? Preview different apps since most offer free trials or a handful of unlocked sessions. Compare user feedback and ask yourself if the app’s style matches yours. Some thrive on structure (like Headspace), while others are open-ended (like Insight Timer). Test features like mood tracking, focus playlists, and offline listening. Avoid signing up for paid plans until you know the app fits your routine.
Troubleshooting Common Meditation App Issues
Bugs and glitches happen—restart the app or your device. If you’re locked out of paid features, confirm your subscription status. If you switch phones, ensure you’re logged into the correct account. For refunds and cancellations, use the app store’s support channels. Remember to update your app to get the newest sessions (and bug fixes). If an app changes or removes features you love, there’s always another on this list ready for you.
Bonus: Other Tools to Boost Your Calm
If you like pairing meditation with other tools, try white noise or nature sound apps—they drown out background chatter. Mindfulness journals (paper or digital) help you track mood shifts. Breathing exercise apps target anxiety and boost focus for those speedy, stressy days. And if you love gadgets, look into wearables that track your heart rate or breathing. What are the current key trends in app development for 2025? MAE
The way of making mobile apps is changing rapidly, due to technology and changing needs of people, efforts are being made to make apps even easier. Some special things have come in 2025 that will change the way apps are made. In this article, some important trends for making apps in 2025 have been described. Let us know them in detail.
1. The Ongoing Growth of AI and Integration of Machine Learning:
AI and machine learning have become very common now and are being used in mobile apps as well. In 2025, AI will be used even more, making the user experience even better. Apps will show content based on the user's preferences, give suggestions and do boring tasks on their own. This means that apps will get smarter, more personalised and easier for users.
2. The Dominance of Cross-Platform Development:
The need to build quality apps at a low cost is making cross-platform frameworks is more popular. Tools like React Native, Flatter and Xamarin allow developers to code once and build apps for iOS and Android, saving both time and money. In 2025, these frameworks have become even better.
3. Enhanced Emphasis on Security and Privacy:
As concerns about data theft and privacy are growing, security has become a key factor in app development. Rules like GDPR and CCPA are making it stricter to handle data and take user permission. In 2025, we are seeing strong security features in mobile apps from the start. Such as data protection, secure authentication and data use policies.
4. The Engaging Potential of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR):
AR and VR have existed for a long time. But in 2025 they are being used a lot in mobile apps. AR shows digital things in the real world, like trying clothes and helps in studying. VR creates a virtual world in which games, training and social activities change. The mobile app Experts are working on AR/VR features to create interesting and interactive things for the users.
5. The Evolution of Mobile Commerce (m-commerce):
Shopping from mobile phones has become very easy. And if we see, it has increased even more in 2025. Shopping experiences created by AI and VR are becoming more common.
