"Assume" makes an ass out of U and me...
It's the dead of summer, which for me equals Sweaty Toes Season. It also means Foot Fungus Alert Season, too. Athlete's Foot loves me like Jerry Lee Lewis loved his cousin, and it's as creepy as it sounds.
So, I'm at the drugstore yesterday, after my shift, and notice that the only stock of clotrimazole left is in the "pink aisle", to uncharitably refer to women's health products. Seeing as the same thing that handles yeast infections absolutely chews through Athlete's Foot, I pick up a tube and drop by the counter. The kid at the register is maybe eighteen at best, and she gives me an odd look.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask.
She shrugs, trying to play off her surprise - and her slight disgust. "Nothing; it's just that you're sort of young to be using a walker - and that's women's stuff."
I smile with teeth. "I see. Well, the uncharitable answer to both questions would have to be 'Nunya', but I could also mention that there's no molecular difference between general antifungal and clotrimazole cream that's specifically marketed for the treatment of yeast infections. It's the same thing, just packaged in two different tubes - with the Pink Tax applying for the second one."
She blinks. "You're not a doctor, how do you know?"
I blink back. "How do you know I'm not a doctor? Should I look like Hugh Laurie and pack a cane instead of a walker?"
The poor kid is in the weeds. "So... You're a doctor?"
My smile widens. "No, actually. Now is the part where you ask me what Nunya is."
"What's Nunya?"
"Nunya Business. And I'll be paying with debit, thanks."

Hey hey, I have PCOS and as a result have extreme inflammatory reactions to things. I got scabies from campus a couple months back and was breaking out a month after they were gone still sort of extreme reactions to things.
When you have an extreme outbreak like that you may need to use an antifungal cause your skin is open and prone to infection easier cause it's compromised. Idk if you asked your doctor about it but althetes foot spray helped me dry out my out break quickly so I could go back to cream and bandages. It's a little harsh but you do what you gotta do.
You also may need to avoid scented stuff entire and stick to things like Cetaphil and other hypoallergenics. I personally got to a point where I have to use hybaclens and castor soap to shower now. Hybaclens is a surgical wash but also helps calm down skin outbreaks by preventing further skin infections.
Just suggestions you could message your derma about.
Thank you so much!! The clusters seem to be drying out, but the nerve pain is still bad! Not sure if that’s normal.
(I also used a theragun on my back over my sweatshirt…not sure if that was ideal)

The Health of Feet and How to Take Care of Them
Our feet are a vital part of our body, but they are often neglected when it comes to health and care. They are the foundation of our body and support our weight, enabling us to stand, walk, run, and perform various physical activities. However, our feet are also prone to various health issues, such as blisters, calluses, corns, fungal infections, and other foot conditions. In this article, we will discuss the health of the feet and ways to take care of them, including preventive measures, treatment options, exercises, and lifestyle changes.
Why is it important to take care of your feet?
The feet are one of the most overlooked parts of the body, and people often neglect them until they develop a problem. However, the health of our feet is crucial for overall health and well-being. Proper foot care can help prevent foot problems, which can lead to pain, discomfort, and decreased mobility. Taking care of your feet can also help prevent serious medical conditions, such as diabetes and circulatory problems, which can have serious consequences.
What are some common foot problems and how can they be prevented?
Several foot problems can arise due to neglect or improper care. Some common foot problems include:
Blisters: Blisters can develop due to friction or rubbing against the skin. They can be prevented by wearing proper fitting shoes and socks and using foot powders or lubricants.
Corns and Calluses: Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin that develop due to repeated pressure or friction. They can be prevented by wearing shoes that fit properly and using foot creams or pumice stones to remove dead skin.
Fungal Infections: Fungal infections such as athlete's foot are common in people who sweat excessively or wear tight-fitting shoes. They can be prevented by keeping the feet clean and dry, wearing clean socks, and using antifungal creams or powders.
Ingrown Toenails: Ingrown toenails occur when the toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain and infection. They can be prevented by cutting toenails straight across and not too short.
Plantar Fasciitis: Plantar fasciitis is a condition that causes heel pain due to inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament. It can be prevented by stretching the feet and wearing proper shoes with good arch support.
What are some effective ways to maintain healthy and strong feet?
There are several ways to maintain healthy and strong feet, including:
Proper Footwear: Wearing proper footwear is essential for maintaining foot health. Shoes should fit well and provide adequate support and cushioning for the feet. Avoid wearing high heels or shoes with narrow toe boxes for extended periods.
Good Hygiene: Keeping the feet clean and dry is essential for preventing foot problems such as fungal infections. Wash your feet regularly, dry them thoroughly, and change your socks and shoes frequently.
Regular Exercise: Regular exercise can help maintain foot health by improving circulation and strengthening the muscles and bones in the feet. Walking, running, and yoga are all good options for foot health.
Foot Stretches: Stretching the feet regularly can help improve flexibility and prevent injuries. Try exercises such as toe curls, ankle circles, and calf stretches.
Foot Massage: Massaging the feet can help improve circulation, reduce tension, and relieve pain. Use a tennis ball or foam roller to massage the soles of your feet.

Tip for Trans and Disabled Folks
If you have a hard time bathing sometimes because of dysphoria or disability like I do, I have tips! There are two products I use regularly to help with skin yeast infections that can come from not bathing (this is especially a problem if you're fat or busty).
The first is Zeasorb AF for jock itch (I use it all over my body, but I find the jock itch variety is gentler than the foot fungus one). The bottle looks like this:
Tumblr media
You can use it after sponge bathing your problem areas, or even without bathing at all.
The second product is Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo. The package looks like this:
Tumblr media
Although it's technically a shampoo, it contains ketoconazole, an antifungal effective against yeast. Use it as body wash when you shower or bathe, or even make soapy water with it to sponge bathe, if that's all you're up for. You can also get ketoconazole cream with a prescription, but the shampoo is available online and at many drug stores with no scrip.
Anyway, I hope that helps folks, thanks for reading!

Potential TMI:
I can't believe we call it "jock itch" to the extent that it's what they put on medication packaging for it. I also find it funny that they make separate packaging for the exact same cream in "jock itch" and "athlete's foot" forms. But they don't have separate packaging/marketing or even a common term/euphemism for "under boob fungal rash" which is usually what I've had to buy antifungal cream for.

How can I prevent foot fungus from coming back?
Tumblr media
To prevent the recurrence of athlete's foot, there are some important steps to take:
1.Keep your feet clean and dry: Wash your feet daily with soap and water and dry them thoroughly, especially between your toes. Use a clean towel or hairdryer on a cool setting to make sure your feet are completely dry.
2.Wear clean socks and shoes: Change socks and shoes daily, or more often if your feet sweat excessively. Make sure your shoes are well ventilated and dry before putting them on.
3.Avoid Barefoot: Wear shoes or sandals in public areas such as pools, changing rooms, and showers to avoid exposure to fungus.
4.Use antifungals: If you are prone to athlete's foot, you should use antifungals regularly to prevent future infections. These are powders, sprays, or creams containing antifungal drugs.
5.Keep your toenails trimmed: Straighten your toenails regularly. This will prevent the fungus from getting under your nails.
6.Do not share personal items: To prevent the spread of fungus, do not share towels, socks, shoes, or other personal items that touch your feet.
7.Be aware of your risk factors: Certain factors can increase your risk of athlete's foot, including: B. Weakened immunity, diabetes, wearing tight shoes. Take steps to manage these risk factors to prevent future infections.
By following these tips and maintaining good foot hygiene, you can prevent athlete's foot from recurring. If you have any concerns or symptoms, it is important to see a doctor for evaluation and treatment. This 30-Second Shower Trick Kills Toenail Fungus

The Tinea Pedis Treatment Market is projected to grow from USD 1,490.97 million in 2024 to USD 2,204.52 million by 2032, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.01%.Tinea pedis, commonly known as athlete's foot, is a contagious fungal infection affecting the skin of the feet. It thrives in warm, moist environments, making it prevalent among athletes and individuals who wear closed shoes for extended periods. As awareness of the condition grows, so does the demand for effective treatments, driving significant expansion in the Tinea Pedis treatment market.
Browse the full report at https://www.credenceresearch.com/report/tinea-pedis-treatment-market
Market Overview
The global Tinea Pedis treatment market has witnessed steady growth over the past decade, driven by factors such as increasing awareness of fungal infections, a rise in sports activities, and the availability of over-the-counter (OTC) medications. The market is further bolstered by the growing number of people seeking medical treatment for persistent or recurrent cases of athlete's foot.
According to recent market research, the Tinea Pedis treatment market is expected to continue its upward trajectory, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 6% over the next five years. The market is segmented based on treatment type, distribution channel, and region.
Treatment Types
1. Topical Antifungal Agents: Topical treatments dominate the Tinea Pedis treatment market, accounting for a significant share of the market. These include creams, ointments, sprays, and powders that contain antifungal agents like clotrimazole, miconazole, and terbinafine. Topical agents are often the first line of defense against mild to moderate cases of Tinea Pedis due to their ease of use and availability as OTC products.
2. Oral Antifungal Medications: For more severe or resistant cases, oral antifungal medications such as terbinafine, itraconazole, and fluconazole are prescribed. These treatments are usually more effective in eradicating the infection but are associated with a higher risk of side effects, leading to their use primarily under medical supervision.
3. Alternative Treatments: In addition to conventional antifungal therapies, there is growing interest in alternative treatments, including natural remedies like tea tree oil and garlic extract. Although these options are less common, they appeal to consumers looking for natural or complementary therapies.
Distribution Channels
1. Retail Pharmacies: Retail pharmacies represent the largest distribution channel for Tinea Pedis treatments, providing consumers with easy access to OTC medications. The presence of both branded and generic products in pharmacies contributes to the segment's dominance.
2. Online Pharmacies: The online pharmacy segment is experiencing rapid growth, driven by the convenience of home delivery and the increasing trend of online shopping. The availability of detailed product information and customer reviews also supports the growth of this segment.
3. Hospital Pharmacies: Hospital pharmacies are crucial for dispensing prescription medications, particularly for severe cases of Tinea Pedis that require oral antifungal treatments. This segment is expected to maintain steady growth as more patients seek professional medical advice for their condition.
Market Challenges and Opportunities
Despite the growth prospects, the Tinea Pedis treatment market faces challenges such as the risk of side effects from oral medications, the potential for antifungal resistance, and the stigma associated with fungal infections. However, these challenges also present opportunities for innovation.
Pharmaceutical companies are investing in research and development to create more effective and safer treatments, including combination therapies and novel drug delivery systems. Additionally, the rise of telemedicine and e-pharmacies provides new avenues for market expansion, especially in regions with limited access to traditional healthcare facilities.

Can Athlete’s Foot Affect Other Parts of Your Body?
Athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a common fungal infection that primarily targets the skin between your toes. Most people will recognize its telltale symptoms—itching, burning, and peeling skin. However, a common misconception is that an athlete's foot only affects feet, whereas it can actually spread beyond them and cause further discomfort and complications. In this blog, we'll explore this further and when an athlete's foot specialist should be seen for treatment.
How Does Athlete's Foot Spread?
Athlete's foot is caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes that thrive in warm and moist environments like gyms, locker rooms, and public showers. While athlete's foot primarily affects feet, its reach can spread via direct contact or touching contaminated surfaces; some common ways this happens include:
Hands (Tinea Manuum): When touching infected feet and then touching other parts of your body, the fungus can spread to your hands causing redness, scaling and itching similar to what was experienced on the feet. This condition is known as tinea manuum. Symptoms on hands include redness, scaling and itching similar to what was experienced with feet infections.
Nails (Onychomycosis): Athlete's foot can also have devastating repercussions for your nails, known as onychomycosis, which causes them to thicken, discolor, and become brittle over time. Nail infections can be particularly difficult to treat effectively without professional intervention from an athlete's foot specialist.
Groin Area (Jock Itch): If a fungal infection spreads into your pubic area, a condition known as jock itch (tinea cruris) will result. Jock itch causes an itchy red rash typically found near the inner thighs or buttock regions; athlete's foot infections often spread this way if used on both feet and body without washing the towel first.
Body (Tinea Corporis): Athlete's foot fungus may spread to other parts of your skin, leading to tinea corporis - commonly referred to as ringworm. This infection, which appears as round, red patches with raised edges - may appear anywhere on your body and can result in tinea corporis infections that appear as round red spots with raised edges and can appear anywhere from feet to arms and backside.
Complicated Results from Untreated Athlete's Foot
While an athlete's foot might seem like a minor nuisance at first, leaving it untreated increases its chances of spreading to other areas, potentially leading to secondary bacterial infections that cause swelling, pain, and more serious health concerns.
Cellulitis: If an athlete's foot fungus penetrates deeper layers of skin, it may result in cellulitis - an infectious bacterial condition requiring medical intervention immediately.
Systemic Infection: While uncommon, fungal infections that reach your bloodstream may result in more serious systemic infections, especially for individuals with compromised immunity.
Prevent Athlete's Foot from Spreading
Preventing athlete's foot from spreading requires proper hygiene and care, here are a few tips:
Maintain a Dry and Clean Environment: Since fungus thrives in humid conditions, dry your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes.
Avoid Contact With the Infected Area: If you must apply medication or touch the infected area, wash your hands immediately afterward.
Use Antifungal Treatments: OTC antifungal creams and powders may help stop an infection quickly; if symptoms persist, consult an athlete's foot specialist for stronger treatments.
Avoid Sharing Items: Towels, socks, and shoes can carry fungal spores that could spread infection. To reduce this risk, avoid sharing these items among family and friends to stop the further spread of infections.
When Should You Visit an Athlete's Foot Specialist
If your athlete's foot infection fails to respond to OTC treatments, spreads to other parts of your body, or causes extreme discomfort, it is time to consult a specialist. They can provide stronger antifungal medication - including oral treatments - and ensure the infection doesn't lead to further complications.
Sometimes what appears to be an athlete's foot can actually be another skin condition, such as eczema or psoriasis; an athlete's foot specialist can accurately identify and treat this issue accordingly.
Conclusion
While an athlete's foot usually begins as an infection of the feet, if left untreated, it can quickly spread throughout your body and worsen further. To avoid further complications, it is crucial to recognize its symptoms early; if your condition worsens or spreads beyond its initial severity, you should consult a specialist immediately for professional help - early intervention can prevent discomfort as well as more serious health problems.
