I didn't follow the Academy Awards at all this year, though of course I watched Ryan Gosling's performance of "I'm Just Ken" afterwards. Essie does not remember much from her early childhood other than being in an RV. For the first ten years of her life, her parents bounced her and her older brother around from place to place, setting up various cons and scams to make an income, and never staying anywhere too long. Even while they were around, the person who raised her—who took her to the library, who made sure that she knew how to read, who did his best to make sure she didn't fall too far behind at school—was her brother Beto.

When she was ten, their parents left them at the motel they were staying at and never came back. For three years, a local handyman helped the two of them hide the fact that they were minors without parents, until Beto was eighteen and could become her legal guardian. He was also the person who gave her her first gaming console—an act that ignited a life-long passion and set her on a path toward her future career.

Eventually, she went to college and got a degree in Game Design, entering into the extremely tough and competitive world of video game development. It meant unpaid labour, long hours, crunch time, and fighting tooth and nail for credits, but she stuck with it long enough to build a small but impressive portfolio of work. It helped that she went into the field with at least a little bit of name recognition as a Twitch streamer.

Her career, both as a designer and as a content creator, was taking off when Beto discovered that they had two older siblings out there in the world—one of which was a content creator she had previously watched, and even admired. The pair considered reaching out, but upon realising that the account hadn't posted in three years, they instead tracked down the twins' last known location. In the new year, they decided to take an extended trip along with Beto's long-time boyfriend to see if they could find out more. Getting stuck wasn't part of the plan, and while her brother tries his best to put a positive spin on things, Essie is... Less than happy about their situation. But at least they've now got a whole new family that they weren't expecting to find, right?

Fruits Basket final season first impressions!

- The visuals for the OP were stunning, not super feeling the song itself though I’m willing to bet it’ll grow on me - Maaya Sakamoto continues to be one of the best vas out there, she honestly blows me away with how she plays Akito EVERY TIME - God I am not ready for Ren to get involved but I am so ready at the same time - I feel like the tone they set in this episode was SO GOOD. Like you really get a sense of tensions building and you know shit’s about to go down. - However, the scene of Akito strangling Ren was overdone but that’s pretty par for the course with scenes like that in the anime unfortunately - SLEEPOVER WITH THE GIRLS!!!! Any scene focusing on Tohru, Arisa, and Hana is going to be a favorite, they are soo good - Tohru’s character arc continues to be heartbreaking as she keeps pushing herself for everyone else’s sake and refuses to prioritize herself for a second
