Canon Polycule Showdown
(vote for your favorite! check the description if you don't know them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: 1. Art of Nicky, Joe, Andy, Booker and Niles from The Old Guard. 2. Picture of Sasha, Anne, Marcy from Amphibia /end ID]
Meet the contestants!
Nicky/Joe/Andy/Booker/Niles
Status: Implied
Description: When we meet the team at the beginning of the movie, it's very clear that they're all exceptionally close and dear to each other. They all have great chemistry with each other, are very touchy, hugging, platonic-ish kisses. And Niles is the newest member of the team, newly immortal at the beginning of the film. And if becoming part of the polycule is inevitable, then she will be eventually, but at the moment she's just got some good vibes with Andy (intense and flirty in places) and she's friendly with the team. And commonly reported is the fact that Greg Rukka, who was behind the comics, insisted that if Netflix was going to do an adaptation they were required to keep Joe's speech when he and Nicky are kidnapped by some military types who make fun of them being close to each other, and keep the two of them explicitly canon.
Sasha/Anne/Marcy
Status: Implied
Description: It is shown time and time again how much they matter to each other. Sasha literally says to Anne about Marcy "let's go save that lovable nerd". Sasha blushing at Anne on multiple occasions and looking at her with heart in her eyes, forgiving all of her faults. Marcy's favorite dream is her and the girls all being together. They matter so much to each other and can be easily seen as a queer platonic relationship, they're just... on another level. They all experience this bond a bit different, but they will fight and kill and die for each other. They are everything.

Have you seen this childhood show: Xiaolin Showdown (2003-2006), United States (English)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Commentary/Context/Memories: No submitted commentary.
[Mod A: I definitely have not heard of this show and my first impression of it is mistaking the big guy in the background for a Mountie haha (He is actually meant to be a Texas cowboy named Clay). This show was meant to be a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, with an East Asian fight art style and philosophy combined with a Western-style humour and character. Each character is a dragon/dragon in training: Omi (yellow guy and Xiaolin Dragon of Water), Kimiko Tohomiko (the tech girl and Xiaolin Dragon of Fire), Raimundo Pedrosa (self-elected team leader and Xiaolin Dragon of Air) and Clay Bailey (team muscle and Xiaolin Dragon of Earth). Together, they work with Dojo Kanojo Cho (green shapeshifting dragon advisor/mode of transportation) to fight against the antagonist Heylin team and retrieve/protect the Shen Gong Wu (a set of powerful ancient hidden artifacts that only Dojo can really sense in the environment). Each episode ends with a magical duel called Xiaolin Showdown (they said the title of the show!) to decide who gets possession of the Shen Gong Wu. It sounds interesting even I didn’t really watch any martial arts shows growing up!]

Prompt: Write a movie concept involving Sam Reich's (more specifically his persona as a mildly demented game show host on Dropout) journey into manic supervillainy and the ensuing over-the-top ridiculous clashes with his archnemesis: Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Title: Dropout or Die: The Sam Reich Ascension
Tagline: Discover the true Reich of chaos
Logine: Dropout kingpin Sam Reich, fueled by a potent blend of Mountain Dew and existential dread, ascends to supervillainy. Now, armed with a nonsensical army of internet randos and armed with a twisted version of his game shows, he challenges his archnemesis, the wholesomely heroic Brennan Lee Mulligan, to a series of increasingly ridiculous battles for the fate of the internet.
Characters:
Sam Reich: The once-beloved host of Dropout, now a manic supervillain obsessed with proving the superiority of internet culture. He wields outdated memes and viral trends as his weapons.
Brennan Lee Mulligan: The wholesome and athletic champion of all that is good on the internet. He uses his teamwork skills and genuine charisma to counter Reich's chaotic schemes.
The Dropout Army: A ragtag group of internet personalities, gamers, and forum dwellers, manipulated and fueled by Reich's promises of internet domination.
The Algorithm Avengers: Brennan's team of allies, including a conspiracy theory-debunking librarian, a teenage coding prodigy, and a surprisingly buff cat influencer.
Plot:
Sam Reich, the host of the increasingly unhinged game show "You Don't Know Jack," snaps. Fueled by a potent concoction of Mountain Dew, existential dread, and the pressure to stay relevant, he discovers a hidden internet artifact – the "Scroll of Clickbait." This ancient scroll grants him the power to manipulate the very fabric of online trends and memes.
Corrupted by power, Reich declares himself "Overlord of the Algorithm" and vows to reshape the internet in his twisted image. His first target? His former co-host and foil, Brennan Lee Mulligan, the embodiment of wholesome online content.
Reich unleashes a series of absurd challenges based on warped versions of his game shows. Contestants are forced to participate in real-life "Wikipedia Races" with dodgeball-wielding librarians, decipher nonsensical riddles based on outdated memes, and navigate obstacle courses filled with internet trolls.
Brennan, ever the champion of good, rallies his own team – The Algorithm Avengers. They consist of an unlikely bunch: a conspiracy theory-debunking librarian with surprising martial arts skills, a teenage coding prodigy who can manipulate social media algorithms, and a surprisingly buff cat influencer with a massive online following.
Each battle is a hilarious spectacle of internet culture come to life. Reich throws everything at Brennan – weaponized cat videos, comment section arguments manifested as physical beings, and a sentient pop-up ad monster. Brennan counters with clever use of teamwork, witty banter, and the unexpected tactical advantage of catnip grenades (courtesy of the buff cat influencer).
The climax involves a showdown within a virtual reality game show arena created by Reich. Brennan and his team must navigate a series of challenges that parody classic internet experiences – from navigating a comment section filled with angry trolls to escaping a pop-up ad labyrinth. In the end, it's not brute force that wins, but Brennan's genuine connection with the online community. He uses his social media influence to expose Reich's manipulations, causing the internet users to abandon him.
Themes:
The power and pitfalls of internet culture.
The importance of genuine connection and collaboration.
The fight against manipulation and misinformation online.
Humor:
Slapstick humor based on internet memes and online experiences come to life.
The absurdity of Reich's schemes and his reliance on outdated internet trends.
Witty banter and self-referential humor referencing Dropout shows and internet culture.
Ending Scene:
A defeated Reich, stripped of his powers, is forced to return to hosting a low-budget web series about obscure historical facts. Brennan, hailed as the champion of the internet, celebrates with his team. However, in a post-credits scene, a shadowy figure emerges from the dark corner of the internet, holding a mysterious artifact – a dusty VHS tape labeled "Myspace Mayhem." The figure cackles, hinting at a future villain even more terrifying than the Overlord of the Algorithm.

🦂 sonic oc showdown q&a 🦂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
logo by @bunnymajo!! you are awesome @sonic-oc-showdown thank you for giving me reasons to talk about my boy nya
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name? sting is what scorpions do! they sting. bonus points because it's funny! it sounds like a command. "sting the scorpion"
🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range) 17
🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)? not at all! he's got other things on his mind
🍕 - What is their favorite food? hmm good question! something spicy. my partner says he'd be more popular with the girlies if he ate ice cream but that's not how he rolls. sad for the girlies 😔
💼 - What do they do for a living? two things! sting is a medical student with a focus in neurology! his poison primarily affects the nervous system so he wanted to learn specifically how that worked, and that led to a general interest in the field. as a result, he always carries a vial of antivenom with him, just in case someone has a really bad reaction his more full-time position is as a mercenary! medical lessons were expensive, so he needed a way to pay it all off. he's taken up all sorts of odd jobs as a result. he doesn't really question what he's doing so long as he gets paid well. in my fanstory, he's doing contracted work for an ex-gun researcher named taz nocturne. afterwards, he occasionally helps out team chaotix as an informant
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies? sting would consider his mercenary work as a hobby tbh? it was supposed to be a hobby. he won't admit that it's basically his Job now. he likes to sign up for martial art classes to learn new techniques, not necessarily to participate in tournaments (though he would like to one day). asides from that, he likes to play sudoku :] he is not good at it
🎯 - What do they do best? close-range fighting, that's why being paid to fight someone is one of his favorite jobs. he's also Really good at shooter-type arcade games like galaga, do not try and beat his score
🥊 - What do they love to do? What do they hate to do? to rephrase what i said above: he likes to fight, primarily because he Knows he's good at close-range combat and it makes him feel good to prove that again and again. sting needs someone to knock him down and remind him that he is, in fact, not the Best at what he does he hates doing things unfairly, which is why he refrains from using his tail in combat. that said, he'll use his stinger if he has to, as the job ultimately comes before his pride
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories? to be quite honest i haven't thought about it!
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories? i also haven't really thought about this 😭
🧊 - Is their current design the first one? oh not at all. sting went through a few changes. general idea has always been the same but his "hair", mouth, markings, and clothes changed throughout the design process. i actually plan on making a separate post detailing all the the thought i put into his design! i'll add the link here (if i remember)
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC? i saw @/beehunterkisser's sonic bug designs and i was Majorly inspired by them. i Had to make a bug. sting was one of the results. i went with a scorpion because scorpions are Really Cool
🌂 - What genre do they belong in? i've imagined him being in the games/idw comics verse! i do want to make my fanstory into a fancomic one day 👉👈
💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality? he doesn't really use labels to describe his gender or his sexuality, whatever happens happens. he uses he/him pronouns and that's all you really need to know
🙌 - How many sibling does your OC have? he has no idea! he doesn't talk to family
🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like? non-existent
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC? oogh...i gotta say his design. i really popped off tbh. other than that i think he's got fun interactions with the sonic cast and i like his personality! unfortunately the interactions only really exist in my head
✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC? relatively often tbh!! i usually draw him fighting sonic. i was in the process of writing a fight scene but writing fights are hard and i struggle a lot with writing ehehe ^^;; a lot of this stuff isn't posted because i am Shy™
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC? oh god no
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias? he's got acrophobia! keep 👏 him 👏 on 👏 the 👏 ground 👏
🍩 - Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival? he doesn't have one tbqh! he doesn't really feel strongly against anyone
🎓 - How long have you had the OC? i wanna say late april-early may? that's around when he was first concepted iirc!
🍥 - What age were you when you created the OC? 22! the age i am as of making this

Shayna Baszler x Fem!Reader where she stands ringside while shayna attacked rhea and cheered for her?
Showdown || Shayna Baszler x Reader
Summary: You and Shayna make an unannounced appearance on Raw.
Tumblr media
Monday night was filled with electrifying energy as Raw was underway, and the current match had the WWE Universe at the edge of their seats. It was a monumental clash between two behemoths, Raquel Rodriguez and Nia Jax, and the ring shook with every slam and strike.
In the midst of the heated showdown, a familiar disruption unfolded. Rhea Ripley, a force to be reckoned with, stormed down to the ring with a scowl etched across her face. It was no secret that she had issues with both Nia and Raquel, and tonight was the night to address them.
As the commentary team discussed the chaos that was unfolding, Michael Cole's words caught your attention. He remarked that Shayna Baszler was the only one missing from this fiery mix. That was the cue. It was time for you and Shayna to make an unannounced entrance.
With no music, no wrestling attire, just regular everyday clothes, the two of you emerged from backstage. Shayna had a determined look in her eyes, and you knew she was ready for action. Her leather jacket, the iconic symbol of her style, was the only semblance of her wrestling persona. You grabbed it, keeping it safe for her until she needed it.
With the crowd's curiosity piqued and the fans' cheers rising, Shayna slid under the bottom rope and into the ring. The Raw audience was about to witness a twist in the tale, an unexpected shift in the balance of power.
Shayna joined the battle with a ferocity that was unrivaled. Her experience in mixed martial arts and professional wrestling was evident as she took the fight to Rhea Ripley. With each strike, each hold, Shayna showcased her relentless nature. Her submission maneuvers and strikes were executed with precision.
As the crowd's roar enveloped the arena, your voice soared above the noise. You cheered for Shayna, your unwavering support palpable. The WWE Universe had witnessed some memorable moments, but this impromptu appearance was something truly extraordinary.
In the ring, Shayna and Rhea's battle raged on. There was no shortage of aggression and intensity. The two women fought like warriors, and it was impossible to predict the outcome.
Shayna's resilience and sheer determination were awe-inspiring. The crowd couldn't help but admire her strength and tenacity. It was a sight to behold, a sudden eruption of chaos that had everyone talking.
In the end, Shayna left her mark, and you were there to celebrate with her. The crowd's cheers became a deafening chorus of approval as you and Shayna exited the ring, knowing that her presence had forever altered the landscape of that fateful Monday Night Raw.
You couldn't have been prouder of Shayna, your partner in and out of the ring. Together, you were an unstoppable force, and this impromptu appearance was proof that no challenge was too great for the Queen of Spades.

The witchling and the god [Loki x Witch!Reader] Chapter 30
Summary: The Avengers were looking for someone to help Loki fit in with the team. To become socially acceptable, so to speak. He had been given the choice of sitting in a cell in Asgard or serving some sort of community service probation on Midgard. The Avengers and Shield both felt that as long as Loki was on Earth, he should be under supervision. This is now your job. Why? Because you’re a witch. You’re not sure why this qualifies you, but here you are, giving it a shot. What could possibly go wrong?
Tags: Witch!Reader, Magic, Witches, slow burn, everybody lives in the tower, character development, Loki‘s redemption, Stephen Strange is a friend, Loki and Stephen are frenemies, Tony Stark is a good bro, kids love Loki, Tony has stupid nicknames for everybody, eventual smut

Chapter 30: Someone on my mind
You are standing in a part of the Sanctum that is unknown to you. Magic has led you here, you were drawn to it. No, not you were. You're just sitting in the backseat of a car with no choice of where to go or what music to listen to. All you can do is to look out of the window and be terrified. Because the car is your body and you lost all control over it. Someone else is sitting in the driver seat.
You hear Stephen's voice as he steps through a portal to you. On the one hand you are relieved, the Sorcerer Supreme can help you, right? On the other hand, you want to scream, to warn him so he doesn't mistake you for yourself.
"Who am I talking to?" he asks you, taking a step closer.
"A witch." A smirk appears on your lips.
"Try again."
"Nah." With a flick of your hand, in which you hold the gemstone of the sword, you shoot a raw blast of energy at him. If only Stephen had shown up sooner, he might have been able to stop you from taking the gem.
In the fight that breaks out now, you can only watch. You try to fight back, to take the wheel again, but you didn't even notice that someone put you in the backseat and buckled your seat belt – not until it was way too late.
Stephen summons one of his spells in the form of a golden mandala and sends it out to you. But you counter it without any problems and dodge it.
It's a weird feeling to wield magic, that is not your own. Your fingers move in unfamiliar ways and you mutter spells you never heard. The gem in your hand amplifies your own magical power and multiplies each of your spells, so you have no trouble keeping up with the Sorcerer Supreme.
"Where is Wong?" Stephen growls questioningly, for the Sanctum is never without supervision. Either he's here himself, or, when summoned, Wong fills in for him.
Your mind is searched for a memory, and a brief encounter between you and Wong flickers in your mind's eye, dating back some time.
"Ah, your friend," your voice says. "Well, let's just say he's sleeping. Funny guy."
You know he's one floor down, lying unconscious in the hallway. You couldn't help it. You'll apologize to him for that later. If there is a later for you.
Stephen is furious. "I've got no time to deal with you right now."
That's right, you remember him saying something about a demon in New York before he left you unsupervised in one of the most important, magical buildings in this world. Man, he really trusted you. You guess that's over now.
You laugh. No, Daegal laughs and he twists your lips into a smug grin. "I don't want to keep you from your business. Go. I promise I'll wait."
That’s a lie. You stand near the door to leave at the earliest opportunity. Daegal has what he came for.
The next attack hits you right in the chest and you double over in pain. Just because you have no control over your body doesn't mean you're immune to pain. You see everything, hear everything, feel everything. And that right there was a nasty spell.
Blindly you reach for the door handle behind you, but the door is already open. Suddenly, something is wrapped around your throat and tightens its grip. The next moment you feel incredibly weak, as if something sucks any energy from you. You turn around and stand face to face with someone else.
You feel as if someone has opened the window next to you. "Loki," you whisper, and it's your own word you hear this time. Your gaze travels down you and you see that the Asgardian has put a necklace on you. It looks like an amulet, large and golden. An intricately crafted piece that once belonged to a princess.
"The others need you." Loki's eyes meet Stephens'. "Go. I will take care of this."
The sorcerer looks at him appraisingly, but the Asgardian is right. Time is short. Stephen opens a portal and jumps through.
Daegal had time to gather your strength. It feels like your powers are slipping through your fingers, like something is absorbing them from you. But Daegal still has enough to fight. The window is closed again and you roar against soundproof glass.
Your throat feels tight, like something is pressing uncomfortably against it. The necklace doesn't constrict you, but you feel the magic emanating from it. Or rather, flowing into it.
"Help me," Daegal whines, sounding afraid. He takes a step forward and wraps his arms around Loki. "Please. It's in my head."
It's a convincing performance. You probably would have acted exactly the same way, used the same words. And for a brief moment, you fear Loki will fall for it.
But Loki is the god of lies. And even if the words are technically true, Daegal doesn't mean them. It's a fine line, one that Loki walked for centuries. His hands light up green with magic and rest against your temples.
The car skids, and for a moment it feels as if Loki is sitting next to you in the back seat. He sees you and he sees Daegal. Then he's gone again, because Daegal has rammed the gem in Loki’s stomach. It's not devastating, because the necklace drains you of as much magical power as the gem gives you. But it's enough to make Loki stumble back a few steps into the hallway.
He glares at you grimly. "You're that wicked witch from the west coast."
"Don't stand in my way. I just take back what's mine," Daegal growls, glaring grimly at Loki. He starts losing control over you, clinging desperately to the wheel of the lurching car.
"You broke into my refugium, took my stuff and then you fucking obliviate me! It took me a while but we have security cameras, you know. It wasn't hard to find you, you have been all over the news. And your little witch girl was an easy target. You shouldn't have made her cry with your harsh words. She was so busy with her own worries that she didn't even notice me in her head."
He reaches for the necklace around your neck and tries to pull it off, but it doesn't work. Instead, you feel the familiar tightness around your neck that always appears just before panic sets in. You are prepared for it, you know your weak point. Daegal doesn't, the feeling makes him uncomfortable and he doesn't seem to know if it's coming from you or Loki.
The Asgardian walks right into your space and Daegal backs away.
"We should have killed you when we had the chance," Loki spats. "But she wanted to spare your life."
"What a noble action of a burglar. I'm so fucking thankful!" Daegal words drip with sarcasm as he prepares his next spell. However, due to the necklace and the part of the artifact that is incorporated into it, it is only a faint imitation of what he had wanted to do.
Angrily, he stares at your hands.
"Knock me out," you shout to Loki, your voice no more than a whisper. "He can't do anything if he can't breathe." You move a hand Daegal is looking at toward your neck.
Punches to the back of the head always look handy in movies, but they can damage the brain. And they kinda hurt – though you're desperate enough to take that, too. But if Loki cuts off your air, your body would go limp and the witch would have no control over it.
Loki understands what you're trying to tell him and shakes his head vehemently. "Absolutely not." Under no circumstances would he do that. There are other methods. But he wouldn't risk triggering you by cutting off your air. He notices you trying to fight your uninvited guest.
"The gem is mine!" Daegal spits furiously. He needs to leave before things get out of hand.
"You've gone mad, witch." Loki creates an illusion in his place and steps behind you. His hands glow green with magic.
"Oh, you think you're clever, don't you?" Daegal snickers. "But I know your secret, god of lies. When you told her, you told me and I-…" He falls silent as Loki puts his hands to your head. It's not difficult for him to enter your mind. You're his Witchling, you are familiar to him. You're home. Daegal has neglected the wards in your head after he broke them down and that makes it easy to bypass them.
You hear steps on the roof of the car. Loki's head appears upside down at the driver's window and looking inside. Daegal gasps and for the first time something like panic sneaks on his face. Loki yanks open the door and grabs the witch to pull him out.
Daegal stubbornly holds on to the wheel and the car starts to lurch. You feel dizzy, motion sick, but you also feel yourself getting more control. You move your leg and kick Daegal out of the car. Now driverless, the car trundles along and slowly comes to a stop.
You climb to the front. Daegal and Loki are no longer visible through the rear-view mirrors, as if they had suddenly vanished into thin air. You close the door and lock it, for good measure. Then you try to start the car, but immediately stall.
"Come on," you curse softly. "Please, don't let me hanging."
You try again, and again.
On the fourth try, it starts - still a little bumpy, but you're back on track. Alone.
You open your eyes. You're still dizzy and feel like you've suffered whiplash. For some reason, you're sitting on the floor, Loki’s arm around you. He looks at you with concern. At some point in the last few minutes, you must have fainted briefly.
When he notices that you're awake, he breathes a sigh of relief. "Are you alright, love?" he asks gently. Gone is his previous aggressiveness.
"I will be." He helps you stand up and you move slowly as a wave of nausea washes over you. It may also be due to the necklace still scratching your throat, draining magic from you. "Just give me a minute," you mumble. And, "Thank you." You have a headache, but you finally feel alone in your mind again. You notice how long you haven't been.
"I’m afraid, we don't have that time." Loki presses a quick kiss to your temple, then turns to the shelf. "Blackheart, the prince of hell, is in the city, and as long as he has been mesmerizing people and absorbing their strength, I doubt Stephen is able to send him back to hell without help."
You try to process the flood of information. Your brain still seems to be running a little slow. Whether it's from your magic being absorbed or you need to get used to using the full capacity of your brain all by yourself again, is hard to say.
"Oh," is all you manage to say, because you have no idea what to do about a demon prince. At least Loki seems to have a plan, because he picks up one of the three boxes in which the parts of Bloodweeper are stored and opens it with a spell. The hilt disappears into his pocket dimension.
Then he turns back to you. "I need the necklace, Witchling."
You take a step back, because you realize what Loki is up to. And that worries you. He notices your uncertainty and takes your hands in his. "He is no longer in your head. I promise. You are safe to remove the necklace. I won't let him take you again."
His words move you, but it's not the actual cause of your objection. "Loki, you must not put the sword together. It's too dangerous."
The Asgardian's expression changes, becomes harder. "I understand your concern, but this is not up for discussion, love. I'll do what is necessary to ban Blackheart from this world. Whether you approve of it or not. So please don't fight me."
You've never seen him like this. He is determined, ready to do whatever it takes to save the city. You know he wouldn't hurt you, he knows other ways to take you out if necessary. You won't stand in his way. You can't. So you nod. "Okay. I trust you."
He offers you a hand and you take it. His face doesn't change, because what he's about to do is a difficult task. Impossible if he were on his own. But there's a team waiting.
You briefly kiss his lips.
The next moment you two are gone from the Sanctum.
~~
There's chaos in the streets of Greenwich Village.
A hole in the size of Blackheart is in the wall of the abandoned building, Stephen had been fighting the prince of hell earlier - the Avengers do their best to hold him off. But their weapons are virtually ineffective. Each wound they inflict on the demon bleeds for a second or two before closing. It doesn't seem to cause him any pain or even so much as discomfort.
Blackheart lunges at Sam. Stephen creates a magical chain and ropes it around the demon's arm. Planting his feet in the ground, he tries to hold him back. This buys Sam time to fly out of reach, but Stephen is pulled forward, his boots skidding across the asphalt.
A spider web catches the other arm of the demon and Peter pops up next to the sorcerer, mimicking his moves. He manages to bring Blackheart to a halt. It's a testament to the boy's immense strength.
"I can hold him," Peter assures the sorcerer, breathlessly.
Stephen doesn't argue, drops his chain and takes a step to the side, to have space for his spell. With his fingers, he paints golden runes in the air, forming an intricate mandala.
With his now free hand, Blackheart grabs the web and hurls Peter through the air. Tony rushes after him as an arrow shoots toward the demon. He catches it before it hits him. A soft ticking sound is heard, then the tip explodes.
Blackheart stands there as if nothing happened. Part of his skin is burned - ironic since he is used to the burning flames of hell. A second passes, two seconds, then the skin heals from the edges of the injury. There’s almost no blood.
Stephen knits his brows together in concentration. The spell is almost completed. He just needs to add a few more runes.
Blackheart is bombarded by various blasts from the team, all of which serve to distract him. Unfortunately, he is not stupid. Searching, he turns and runs with a few steps to the unprotected Sorcerer Supreme. He grabs him around the waist, arms pressed close to his body. The mandala vanishes instantly, the spell lost, unfinished.
"Stephen Strange, you're quite insufferable," it echoes in his head.
"I've been told." Stephen can't move his arms. He flicks his wrists for spells and tries everything to get free. To no avail.
Steve’s vibranium shield hits Blackheart's back, dealing the smallest of scratches, which disappear right away. The demon moves the fingers of his other hand to Stephen's eyes.
"The soul of a Sorcerer Supreme will be an interesting addition to my collection."
Stephen tries to think of a spell that will help him, any spell. He hears the shouts of the team, but doesn't listen to them. Without magical weapons, they can't do anything for him.
But then, surprisingly, Loki appears, jumping on Blackheart's shoulders from behind, in his hands a sword with a bright blue blade, like cold flames. There's no witty remark, no cool one liner. He simply rams the sword between the shoulder and the neck of the demon.
Blackheart hisses and it echoes in the heads of everyone nearby. For the first time it's a truly effective attack. But Loki doesn’t stop at that. He pulls the sword back out and jumps down from the demon.
The wound on Blackheart’s neck bleeds. One second, two seconds, three seconds... more and more black blood seeps out. Slowly, thickly, as if it's not used to leaving the body.
Blackheart doesn't even notice at first, far too busy reaching for Loki. But the Asgardian deftly dodges the tall figure. He cuts into his arm. Not enough to sever it, but it's enough for Stephen to get free. His cloak immediately puts him at a distance and the sorcerer doesn't hesitate to start the binding spell a second time. He assembles the golden glowing mandala while Loki continues to fight Blackheart.
It's insane and genius and very, very brave.
The rest of the team helps to draw the demon's attention away from Stephen.
Blackheart finally notices the blood running down his body and screeches. He isn’t used to this, maybe it’s the first time ever he is bleeding, and there’s a touch of insecurity in his moves. Along with a large amount of anger.
"How dare you?!" It sounds threatening in Loki's head, attacking him like pin needles.
The Asgardian does not respond. He lashes out at the prince of hell without mercy, adding more and more cuts onto his skin.
Stephen completes his spell with a last rune. "Stand back!" he shouts to the others, for all who stand too close to the demon will be dragged into hell with him.
Loki takes a step back, but Blackheart reaches for him. Loki dodges with a roll and stabs him in the flank. He has no chance to get away. The demon’s focus is on him and he seems determined to kill the Asgardian.
Holding the spell with one hand, Stephen reaches back with his other to pull the cloak of levitation from his shoulders and throw it in Loki's direction. At the same time, he hurls the glowing spell at Blackheart.
The mandala wraps around the demon, binding him. At the last moment Loki is pulled back by red fabric. Sword firmly in hand, he hovers in the air, ready to attack again if necessary.
The mandala spins, Blackheart screeches. His red glowing eyes are directed angrily at Stephen. With a motion of the sorcerer's hand the demon is sucked into the earth.
Then he is gone and all that remains is a black scorch mark on the asphalt.
Everyone stares at the spot and breathes a sigh of relief.
The cloak brings Loki safely to the ground and then leaves his shoulders. The Asgardian thanks it with a silent nod before the cloak floats back to its owner.
You rush to the men. Loki had dropped you off in the security of the sidelines before he threw himself into the battle. You're not delusional enough to think you could do anything against an immortal demon of hell, and you had watched with bated breath, glad it ended rather smoothly.
You cup Loki's face and look at him in concern. "Are you alright?" you ask as you look at his bruises and cuts.
He nods, placing his hand on yours. Loki’s gaze falls on Stephen, who has spotted you, and his expression darkens in response. Stephen makes a gesture in front of his forehead, opens his astral eye and steps to the both of you, looking straight at you.
Loki steps in front of you, the buzzing sword still in his hand. "Don't touch her," he growls.
The sorcerer actually seems offended at this innuendo, but before he can say anything, you step around the Asgardian. His protection is appreciated, but you know you have to stand accountable and apologize.
"I'm sorry for what I did."
"It wasn't you," Loki throws in as if that were an acceptable excuse. He wouldn't even be on Midgard if it were.
Stephen's third eye scans you. "I can no longer sense that second magic presence within you," he mutters, blinking as he closes his astral eye. "I should have known what it was the first time I noticed it."
He has been speaking more to himself, but it still draws your attention. "What do you mean ‘the first time’?" you ask, frowning.
"Back when we met in the tower and talked about the necklace, I sensed another presence in you. I was wondering why Loki hadn't noticed it. But I didn't think someone was invading your mind… I thought," his eyes are briefly darting to the Asgardian, "you were pregnant."
A cough that could be a hidden laugh comes out of your mouth. "You thought I had a magical gifted baby with Loki?" you ask incredulously. And because Loki looks actually offended by your tone, you add, "I think I'd notice if I were pregnant."
Stephen's weird statements in your recent conversations with him suddenly make so much more sense. It'd be funnier if it hadn't resulted in a fight with your friend just earlier.
While you were talking the other Avengers approached you.
"Okay, anyone else got the feeling they missed an important part of a subplot?" Tony asks before eyeing the sword. "Is that…?"
"Yes," Loki answers Tony's question without looking at him. The fight against the demon and also the fight against the witch in your head, have cost him strength. Especially Blackheart's claws, because they have left their marks on him.
"Looks less haunted than I anticipated."
"It just helped us to defeat the prince of hell." It is Stephen who answers.
"Will he die?" Steve asks.
"No, he's still immortal. But the open wounds will keep him busy for a while." Stephen's gaze moves to Loki. "So, you stole the last piece of the artifact." It's a mere statement.
"Next time I may just wait for your order to finish the negotiation."
"Let's clean up and go home. If we're done here?" Steve interrupts the discussion, but looks questioningly at Stephen. The sorcerer nods. Yes, they are done here.
"Loki, I need the sword back."
"Of course." The Asgardian grins broadly before he asks, "But don't you want to know how I got my hands on the necklace?"
Stephen's face drops while he is having a deja-vu. Must be his personal circle of hell. "Look, it's been a long day and I-…"
Loki interrupts him at this point, as funny as he finds the situation the two always seem to find themselves in.
"You know, if you had listened to me the last time, you might have connected the dots to the Witchling's mind invasion."
"Alright, tell me your story then." Sighing, Stephen concedes defeat.
Loki's grin is very wide and pleased. "If you insist." He puts his arm around Stephen's shoulder and leads him a bit away while starting his story. You watch them with amusement, but then turn your attention to the Avengers, some of whom are cleaning up the destruction.
Fortunately, there are only slightly injured on your side. You heal a few minor wounds with magic before everyone agrees to head home.
Stephen heads back to the Sanctum to check on Wong.
"You have three days to sort your shit out," he says, turning to Loki, before disappearing through a sparkling portal.
"What does he mean?" you ask the Asgardian.
The corners of Loki's mouth twitch upward. "He's not happy I stole the necklace from the museum."
While that is true you sense that is not the full answer to your question. Still, you drop the subject for now.
"Wanna order food? I'm starving."
The Asgardian has no objection to that, and some time later you're both sitting in the compound with empty pizza boxes in front of you and full stomachs.
Loki kept throwing you weird looks during the meal, as if he was thinking about something. You've given him the space and waited for him to speak on his own.
"How are you feeling?" he finally asks you innocuously.
"It's good to be alone in my head again. I still feel like I'm not fully back online." It will probably take a few days to come back to normal after this long time with another person taking the shots. You think back to the strange dream you had. That was weeks ago. You feel sick when you think about how long Daegal was in your head.
"I'm sorry," Loki apologizes, and you look up in wonder, because he has no reason to.
"Huh?"
"Stephen was right," the Asgardian murmurs as if he himself can't believe he’s saying that. "I should have sensed the presence in your mind."
You push your food aside and take Loki's hand. "It's not your fault. I heard his voice in my head and it didn't occur to me that something was wrong with that. He's a master of manipulation. He slipped through my defenses like nothing. And we had a lot going on that distracted both of us."
"But not anymore. It's just you and me now, love."
"Yeah." You return Loki's smile. "We should celebrate. You just saved the city."

I think I should be transparent about the state of where I'm at with my personal projects that I've been sharing on this blog so far.
First off my computer situation is still unchanged, mostly because of scheduling issues being a constant blockade. It can still safely function enough to type in my notes docs or on tumblr, but the big thing is that it can't run games. This is kind of an issue when my most used tag is for a game I play on PC.
Which leads to the big point: I haven't exactly been in an Overwatch mood lately, both because I can't actually play it and because the recent news about the state of its dev team is some of the most disheartening in this game's extremely tumultuous history. It's hard to be excited about a game you can't play, and it's extremely hard to be excited about a game where you're not even sure if there's enough people still employed working on it to keep it going forward. Somehow I still don't outright detest the game or anything close to that, but it's not been too frequent in my thoughts lately.
Obviously, this hurts my enthusiasm to work more on the AU based directly on the game itself, but also doesn't help inspire me to work as much on War Bots, my original team shooter project based heavily on Overwatch. I realize that between the two the former is more popular (fanbase of like 6 vs a fanbase of like 2), but still. My personal interest in these is at a low, more so unfortunately for Role Requeue than War Bots. This is somewhat normal for me, I cycle between interests pretty consistently, with my last Overwatch/War Bots kick lasting a bit long all things considered without much going to my other personal projects.
speaking of, I can at least mention the two of those I've been lending some brain juices to
The first is Renegades, a teen superhero team story that I hope to turn into a webcomic series one day. There's really not anything to it that I can say as a super unique pitch, I just wanna make my own superhero story because I think they're neat.
Slightly more zesty is Darkworld Showdown, a platform fighter idea with a "spooky/monster/creature" theme inspired by Darkstalkers and Skullgirls. This one has been on brain hiatus for longer since the friend who sort of became the "second in command" on the project has been radio silent for almost a year, but I've been back in touch with them recently so I'm hoping to get back into it more and give another pass on the roster and mechanics to hopefully refine it into something both more realistic to make and more interesting than just another indie platform fighter. I have some character designs floating around on Art Fight already but most of the cast needs an update badly, it's been a while for almost all of them and even some of the public stuff is rough from how old it is.
I may be posting more about these if there's any interest, but I mostly just wanted to explain where my head's been at lately, especially if you mostly expect Overwatch stuff from me. Not gonna try and beat myself up for it or anything, but wanted to mention it anyways. I think at least in my little circle that the Overwatch burnout is apparent so this might not be as big of a shocker as I'm fearing, but uh... yeah not sure how to end this one.

the dream team's xp leveling
this is complex enough that i needed to create a second spreadsheet. i've doomed myself to an eternity of calculations. anyway:
the unsleeping city:
Tumblr media
i did the calculations in the spreadsheet this time, so it's a little easier to follow and there's only one round of arithmetic to do. one key difference here is that contextual multipliers are more common. for the unsleeping city, i used contextual multipliers for the number of opponents as well as other complicating factors that will be listed with each encounter.
mutant santa melee: i separated this encounter into three categories: the mutant santas, the spawn point chrysalis, and the big santa.
mutant santas: based on their hp counts and damage outputs, i'd place the standard mutant santas at CR 1/4, so 50 XP each for 600, with a 2x contextual multiplier because of 1) the number of mutant santas and 2) the complicating factors both the captured santa and things like pete's wild magic surges. total of 1200 XP
the chrysalis: only CR 1/4 because sofia kicked it into the sky. 50 XP
big santa: CR 2, based on damage output and how much it took to kill it. 450 XP
total XP count: 1700 XP, or ~283 XP each
scramble in the sewers: this encounter was fairly standard, and would not be that difficult traditionally; i included the 1.5x multiplier to account for the water level mechanics and the fact that a bunch of the party was trying not to drown while killing the rat king.
rat swarms: CR 1/4. they chased after minor illusion cheese. 75 XP
the beefy boys: technically they are using crocodile stats, at CR 1/2 each. i know this because kug brings them back later on. total of 600 XP
rat king: i'd put him at around a CR 4; with the multiplier that becomes 1650 XP
total XP count: 2325 XP, or ~387 XP each
the war of bugs and rats: first fully standard encounter; varying CRs for each of the opponents, but other than that no major complications
becky the wasp-centaur: based on her level of spellcasting, i'd put her at around CR 5, or 1800 XP
beetle: less challenging than becky at a CR 3 (700 XP). he's gonna have to kill ya.
roaches: proportionally more of them, but they were easy to take care of. CR 1/2, total of 800 XP.
swarms of bugs: same deal as the roaches. CR 1/2, for a total of 200 XP.
bugsters: i went through and calculated DPR and their stats and settled on CR 1, for a total of 800 XP
total XP count: 4300 XP, or 716 each
subway skirmish: only a minor (1.25x) modifier this time, for alejandro summoning the train to nod and the fact that they were sacrificing spell slots to fuel it. this fight notably steps up from the previous fight; recall "i'm gonna kill that dog".
crooked cops: total of 12, but they only defeat 8. CR 4 (1100 XP) for a total of 11000 XP.
epona cirillo: i used her stats & the stats of her weapon to set her CR at 5 (1800 XP), for a total of 2250 XP
total XP count: 13250 XP, or 2208 each
panic at the art show: 1.5x modifier for the environmental hazards; namely the building being on fire adn the fact that they had to evacuate while in combat.
isabella infierno: succubi are CR 4, so i evaluated her stats, which landed her around a CR 8 (3900 XP) for a total of 5850 XP.
artsy devils: standard barbed devil stat block; CR 5 (1800 XP) for a total of 10800 XP
total XP count: 16650 XP, or 2775 each
broadway brawl: another modified (1.5x) fight, due to misty's ritual mechanics and the fact that they needed to fight and perform at the same time.
queen titania: compared a few fey spellcasters from the bestiary and landed on her being around CR 13 (10000 XP), based on her spell use and magic items. total of 15000 XP
seelie dancers: used their stats and dpr to set them at CR 3 (700 XP). total of 4200 XP
pixie mobsters: standard pixie statblocks, but they have guns and kidnapped stephen sondheim, so i upgraded them to CR 1/2 (100 XP). total of 450 XP
total XP count: 19650 XP, or 3275 each
showdown at the stock exchange: this fight was notably difficult; pete dying, the complication of the ritual, and eventually reducing moses to his phylactery.
kiosk vampires: they're blood-drinker vampires; CR 8 (3900 XP), for a total of 31200 XP.
robert moses: using standard lich stats, he's CR 21. i adjusted this with a modifier of .75, because they did reduce him to the phylactery, but the ritual still went off. he wasn't defeated.
total XP count: 55950 XP, or 9325 each
times squaremageddon: the final fight; harder than the kalvaxus fight, easier than the nightmare forest. the american dream is a modified version of robert moses' stats, and has a 1.5x modifier for the individual appeal mechanics and the storm mechanics.
fire maelstrom: not technically elementals, but using similar enough abilities that i'd rate it CR 5 (1800 XP) for a total of 3600
wind maelstrom: same deal as the fire maelstroms: CR 5 (1800 XP), total of 3600
robert moses' american dream: based on a solar (celestial, ac 21, etc.) i would give it a CR 21, but based on the combination with robert's phylactery and the fact that they were fighting on multiple fronts, i'd rate it a CR 23 (50000 XP), for a total of 75000.
total XP count: 82200 XP, or 13700 each.
the unsleeping city total: 196025, or 32670 each. using the overall method of xp leveling (cumulative benchmarks), this would put the dream team at around level 7, as opposed to the level 10 they achieved through milestone leveling.
the unsleeping city chapter ii:
Tumblr media
same deal with the contextual modifiers; this season features multiple tower defense fights that require modifiers.
the mystery of the haunted subway: while this fight featured a wide variety of adversaries, many were easily defeated. no modifiers on this fight; it's very straightforward. uses mostly standard statblocks.
zombies: standard zombie statblock; CR 1/4 (50 XP), total of 250 XP
ghosts: standard ghost statblock including the aging ability; CR 4 (1100 XP), total of 4400 XP
skeletons: standard skeleton statblock; CR 1/4 (50 XP), total of 200 XP
werewolf: standard werewolf statblock; CR 3 (700 XP)
vampires: using the vampire spawn statblock puts them at CR 5 (1800 XP), for a total of 5400
spiders: using the giant spider statblock; CR 1 (200 XP), total of 600 XP.
witch: there isn't really a standard witch statblock that i'd consider for this one; based on her DPR, i'd rank her CR 7 (2900 XP)
frankenstein's monster: again, one without a standard statblock; the closest undead i could find was a greater zombie, which was CR 5 (1800 XP)
mad scientist: another one without a standard statblock; i'd place him around CR 6 (2300 XP)
total XP count: 18550 XP, or 3092 each
trouble at the tunnel: this fight gets modifiers because of 1) the number of devils coming to fight them and 2) the ritual mechanics for jj, much like the subway skirmish.
swarm devils: i used the spined devil statblock for these; CR 2 (450 XP), with a 1.5x modifier for the sheer number, even though the dream team could oneshot them very easily. total of 13500 XP
siege devils: couldn't find a standard statblock, but based on their dpr and abilities, i'd mark each of them at CR 10, with a 1.25 modifier for the number. total of 22125 XP
jersey devil: high level spellcaster with legendary actions; CR 14 (11500 XP). with modification, total of 14375 XP
total XP count: 50000 XP, or 8333 each. this happened organically.
parade of peril: i will admit, this had the potential to be a really difficult fight. brennan rolled so bad and the intrepid heroes rolled pretty well. i rewatched this to estimate stats and he really fails so much during this combat. still, i left modifiers for the difficulty of fighting on the balloons.
true clowns: what a truly goofy concept. based on dpr and the wild magic surge ability, i'd put them at CR 6 (2300 XP) for a total of 27600 XP
balloon dogs: cute but vicious; CR 3 (700 XP), for a total of 3150 when modified.
total XP count: 30750, or 5125 each
fight at the museum: pretty similar to the clown fight in difficulty--specific conditions that complicate a battle with mid-level opponents. brennan rolled way better, so even if the encounters were of similar difficulty, this one came across as more difficult.
animated armor: basically beefed up animated armor. instead of CR 1, i'd put these at CR 5 (1800 XP), with a 1.5x modifier for the historicity & exploration mechanics. total of 10800
plate & bardings: these are the knights that were originally surrounding the unicorn. CR 6 (2300 XP) each, with a 1.5x modifier, for a total of 13800.
total XP count: 24600 XP, or 4100 each
the battle of the hot dog cart: another tower defense; each enemy wasn't that difficult to deal with, but the fact that they had significant numbers and siege weaponry contributed to the difficulty of this fight. the other thing that contributed was cody's existential crisis.
ant legionnaires: based on their dpr and other stats, i'd put them at CR 2 (450 XP), with a 2x modifier for the sheer number of them. total of 41400 XP
ant centurions: CR 4 (1100 XP), with a 1.5 modifier to account for cody's no good very bad day. total of 9900 XP
ketchupults: based on dpr? CR 6, for a total of 4600 XP
mustard wagon: also CR 6 because it was a construct that kingston basically oneshotted with a lightning bolt. 2300 XP
total XP count: 58200 XP, or 9700 each
history checks & lost dex: this fight is tricky, because it's only the one opponent, but they had multiple critical objectives to get through during it, and most of the time weren't actively doing battle.
null: based on his abilities, he's a combination of a nightwalker and some variation of a mind flayer; i'd say some kind of spellcaster or psychic. based on the combination of abilities, as well as the stun vs ability conditions he was able to inflict, i'd put null at a CR 23 (50000 XP) with a modifier of 1.3333 to account for the objectives.
total XP count: 66665 XP, or 11111 each
treachery at gramercy: another fight with a bunch of opponents. this time, we have tony simos as the big opponent. given the objective of stopping the flow of raw umbra and the fact that sofie resurrected her husband amid pitched battle, i'm including a 1.5x modifier.
concrete fist monks: not powerful enough for evasion, so based on monk stats i'd place them at a CR 5 (1800 XP). total of 16200 XP
gramercy wizards: enough spell slots to do multiple dispel magics and counterspells, as well as banishment. 7th-8th level, so CR 8 (3900 XP) for a total of 23400 XP
tony simos: 20th level open hand monk with a couple of modifications; immunity to stun, mageslayer, mobile, legendary actions, and the ability to disrupt verbal and somatic components of spells. with all that in mind, i put him at a CR 21 (33000 XP), for a total of 49500 due to the fight complications.
total XP count: 89100 XP, or 14850 each
two sides of the same coin: the finale fight. another tower defense with hordes, plus the baby ritual. originally this fight would have had a 1.5x modifier or one that was even higher; i reduced that to 1.25x because of kingston's divine intervention granting advantage on everything, resistance to all damage, and disadvantage to null. brilliant narrative move; it just made the battle less difficult.
sparties: we finally found out their ac (19). i read somewhere that they were based on wights, but that didn't really matter to me because doing the calculations set them at CR 3 (700 XP) anyway. total of 35000 XP
corporate wraiths: standard wraiths; CR 5 (1800 XP), for a total of 11250 XP
null: as shown in the ellis island fight, i placed him at CR 23, this time with a 1.25 modifier, for a total of 62500 XP
total XP count: 108750 XP, or 18125 each.
the unsleeping city chapter ii total: 446615 XP, or 74435 each. using the overall leveling method, this would take them from the level 7 they technically would have earned in TUC to level 12, which is exactly where they ended in this chapter
overall total and final comments:
over the course of two seasons, the dream team earned 642640 XP, or 107106 XP individually, which was enough to get them to level 12.
there's some notable differences in the way that combats are structured between the unsleeping city and fantasy high:
the party composition is different; the bad kids are a mix of spellcasters and martial characters who eventually multiclass to get spells, while the dream team all have some magical element to what they do. the party is majority full casters, and everyone else is either a paladin or a multiclass, in both seasons.
for the dream team. combats are balanced to reflect the fact that they can do a ton of AOE crowd control as well as melee combat, but don't have a tank or ranged weaponry.
each of the full casters is specialized; pete is a glass cannon, kingston heals & buffs, misty/rowan buffs and charms while covering debuffs including counterspell, kugrash tends to work with summons and their buffs, and iga has a mix of damage and mobility/utility.
for the partials: sofia's spells generally go to personal buffs, while ricky does a lot of protection, and cody's spells go further towards damage.
in contrast, for the bad kids, combats are balanced to reflect the opposite; they have range, melee, a tank, and some spellcasting damage, but not a ton of AOE.
caster specialties: adaine's spell list leans towards utility & divination, with ranged spell attacks and concentration spells for her damage. fig, like misty, works with charm, fear, and buffs/debuffs, and a bunch of fire damage. kristen has a lot of buffs/debuffs and heals, as well as spells like spirit guardians.
for the partials: fabian's spells generally go to damage rolls and buffs, while gorgug has minor repair & healing, and riz's only known spell at the moment is silvery barbs.
the bad kids start at lower level, going from 1-8 in freshman year, 8-9 in sophomore year, and starting at 10 in junior year, while the dream team starts at level 3 and goes to 10 in chapter i, and then from 10-12 in chapter ii. thus the dream team starts with higher level opponents earlier.
the bad kids generally face fewer opponents than the dream team; their structure is generally 6-10 smaller opponents and 1-2 larger bosses, or multiple bosses that they have to deal with. they are generally facing their opponents in standard environments, so i don't assign them contextual modifiers unless they have a specific objective or mechanical disadvantage.
by contrast, the dream team is more likely to have mechanical objectives and obstacles that further complicate their combat scenarios. in chapter ii, half of their fights feature 20+ opponents, if not more. there are three separate tower defense combats. thus, they get more contextual modifiers.
setting wise, the bad kids have more humanoid opponents that they have specific conflicts with, starting with doreen and johnny spells, going all the way to penelope and dayne in the finale of freshman year.
the dream team has a couple of those, but they're generally facing a magically-induced threat, like the bugsters from chapter i, or the animated armor from chapter ii.
and that's it for this time.

Been wanting to do something like this for a while now but the Capture the Flag arc is singlehandedly the best animated kids war I have ever seen in my life. Everything about this arc is flawless from the setup to the showdown to the ending.
You've got perfect setup spread between seasons 2 & 3 of the show developing King Xavier & the other side of the creek. The Honeysuckle Rangers being absolutely terrified of offending him even to the point where Shawn wouldn't even let Raj eat a Coconuttle candy bar because Xavier might smell coconut on his breath and overreact. The background between Omar & Maya. The Founder's Keep & the original Capture The Flag war that tore apart ancient creek society. Then when Xavier invades he uses candy to gain their trust & mask his true intentions and turns Craig's arguments against him. Slowly we see him change the creek, slowly we see exactly how dangerous he is when he hides behind Maya and his Champions to intimidate and bully the smaller kids.
You've got the perfect showdown when Xavie uses his manipulation tactics to drive Craig and everyone else out of the creek. We see just how important and influential Craig is to his side of the creek when he gathers all the kids and they're willing to fight with him, especially when Omar joins the fight after being so jaded with betrayal yet again. We see how even frenemies like Jason and Craig can team up against a bigger threat.
Then there's the actual WAR itself and this is the part that gets to me in my soul. The directing, the animation, the sound design, is a pure work of art. The silence of the creek while the Time Keeper explains the rules, the silence before the storm. The way the writers play to their kids strengths in this war is pure genius. The paintballers leading the charge just makes sense because they are always talking of war, who better to lead the brigade. The way Toman enters the fray with The Floor Is Lava. The way Paloma retaliates with Jynx. The way Wren and Faraday use stink bombs, the way the Ten Speeds come rolling through with their flower masks, the way Kelsey's warrior instincts pick up and foreshadow the fight with Maya, it's like one huge song and dance, one move after the other and it flows so smoothly yet in chunks that reflect how unpredictable war is.
Then, the climax, the beautiful, wonderful climax. The tide of war is looking bleak for our heroes. The Blur is too fast for Kelsey and the Ten Speeds. Omar, Sparkle Cadet and Bobby are walled by The Arm. Wildernessa sacrifices herself to save Craig from The Squashinator. We've seen these champions are no joke before. Just as it all seems hopeless...
BOOM Deltron hits out of nowhere. The music kicks in. Bobby, little my candy Bobby goes apeshit. Slow motion, the music reverbs in the background, and Bobby deflects a water balloon from The Arm at point blank range. Meanwhile Canonball lures The Blur into Canonspace. And Deltron distracts The Squashinator while Craig gets away. I actually cry every single time I watch this part. These kids weren't put on a pedestal and feared like The Champions were. The Champions were known for their special abilities. Meanwhile on Craig's side of the creek, these kids are just normal every day kids. They made themselves Champions in this moment. Something about seeing them give that clap 👏 back 👏 is just super inspiring to me. You don't have to be a Champion to have the power to change the world.
Then there's the ending. The conflict that Craig has faced the whole arc- should there be order in the creek? And if so, who should be the one to determine it? The conflict we learned about Xavier from Kenneth, in regards to how his parents have raised him and how twisted he has become. Xavier's downfall symbolized through his flower crown slowly loosing it's petals as he chases Craig to the overpass. The Ice Pop Trio coming to back Craig up, Sparkle Cadet saving him from Aggie and Canonball giving him a ride halfway down the creek, such a beautiful little homage to their friendship. The internal conflict Maya faced over betraying Omar and remaining loyal to Xavier for so long. Kelsey facing her fears and holding her own against Maya at all costs. All beautifully wrapped in such care for how complex these characters and situations are.
Craig wins. Xavier's forces kneel to him as he stands atop the overpass. "I think this means you're the new King?" Kelsey says. Craig tears the flag. Omar sheds his green poncho and runs to Maya, wearing the same blue shirt he wore in his flashbacks. Maya is nowhere to be seen, her King's BFF hoodie left abandoned on a tree limb. All of the kids are cheering and playing together. Even Xavier's side of the creek is happy to be rid of him. The Blur drops out of Canonspace. All is well and peace is restored to the creek. And now Craig has a whole new map to fill in.
Such a wonderful arc from start to finish. Can't let this show get away from me without acknowledging the fact that this should be on a top ten list somewhere.

If you want to put RWBY characters in DC, then just have Batman investigate a series of crimes that seem to involve a giant scythe and rose petals. A non-catwoman cat burglar. Bar fights that have fire that is not firearms nor any recognizable explosive.
This is the lost art of Dramatic Irony.
And I do mean it is a lost art. We literally have thousands of years of storytelling rhetoric and arguments. And we ignore them in favour of swerve and the mystery crack box.
The RWBY fans would know EXACTLY what it means, but Batman, and anyone not familiar with RWBY would have no idea. This is something that could be extended over several episodes, maybe even season, before we even have Batman encounter RWBY. And, with a good writer, make it thrilling.
And then once he does, he needs to find a way to get them back through the clenched space sphincter. Say, with a JL member that can fly, and safely carry people through space? Someone who needs some real-world experience before she inevitably gets called to save the galaxy?
Have the timey-whimey-space-ball shenanigans bring WW to face with the Ghost of Pyrrha, and then...
...have them fight. Because WW is not good at negotiation. Or cooperation. People forget that WW is that one always picking fights with the rest of the league, because she wants to murder someone.
In season 2, have Batman call the JL to fight this super powered team that seems to be wrecking his city. Only to have the epic showdown about to begin, they explain what happened, and Bats just turns cape and walks away. Why? Because he believes them.
Leading WW and Hawkgirl to start a designated chick fight with Pyrrha and Nora. Ren and Supes just standing around, trying to stay calm, unable to get anyone to listen to them.
Ruby tries to scythe the Flash, who keeps calmly dodging it. Because Ruby honestly doesn't understand that even with super powers, get cut in half with a scythe would be fatal.
Jaune even shouts "Will you girls stop fighting for a few minutes?!"
Pyrrha and Nora break off the fight, but now WW and Hawkgirl are pissed off at him. They gang up on him. Yang jumps in, because it's her turn.
It turns out Weiss was hooking up a mic to the PA system, and then finally gets everyone to stop the fight with a sound scolding.
Note: Weiss is periodically seen as a background opera singer, when Bruce has to attend some high society functions.
Note: Bring Cyborg in as a technical consultant on timey-whimey-space-balls.
P.S.: I want to write this now, but I'm editing The Prime of His Youth before starting Volume 5.
Fuck my muse.

CROSS FIRE: Fist and Fist Ch 1
Madara: Hmmm~. So, they’re training as a pair, huh? They look like they’re having fun, aren’t they?
Jun: —And, why’re you looking at me?
Scenario Writer: Kino Seitarou (with Akira) Season: Summer Characters: Kiryu Kuro, Mikejima Madara, Nagumo Tetora, Sazanami Jun, Otogari Adonis  Proofed by: @ryuseipuka, Skyress
Tumblr media
Madara: Well then, Kuro-san. I’d like to clearly establish the details of our match one last time.
The match will be held four days from now, in the afternoon.
This activity will be part of the events lined up to promote BUTOUKAI, so there’ll be some filming on-site, but other than that, the rules will follow those of the actual CROSS FIRE bouts.
The use of weapons is prohibited. Attacks to the back of the head and vital areas are prohibited. Biting and scratching are prohibited too, but other than that, anything goes.
The player who KO's his opponent in 10 rounds wins—Do you have objections to any of that?
Tumblr media
Kuro: Nope, I’m down with all that. Ya better take good care of yerself so you don’t get hurt, you hear?
Madara: Hahaha! That’s my line, you knowww!
You would have a slight advantage if it were just martial arts, Kuro-san. However, this is Mixed Martial Arts. Any technique is allowed… … so that means my chances of winning will be pretty high too!
Do be careful not to let your guard down!
Tumblr media
Jun: Woah~. The air between the both of them’s just crackling with tension, isn’t it~?
I didn’t expect everything would turn out as Nagumo-kun had hoped for, but I’m really looking forward to the actual showdown!
Adonis: Fufu~. It looks like there’s a storm of sparks flying between them, but they do seem to be enjoying themselves too.
I never thought the two of them would have such a connection arising from the Dragon King Competition from way back then. Watching them carry out that historic battle once again will certainly be a highlight among the events.
Tumblr media
Tetora: My thoughts exactly~!
Everyone will have three days to prepare. How you spend your time starting from today is up to you, which means that the battle has already begun!
And that’s why, Taisho! If there’s anything you’d like me to help out with in training, please don’t hesitate to approach me to be your partner!
This is a real big match that’ll affect the prestige of the Karate Club after all, so I’ll do my very best to support you!
Kuro: I really appreciate that. Then, I wanna practise some chokehold and ground techniques. Would ya mind being my partner fer those?
I’m no good at applying those skills. If I’m unable to execute ‘em properly, I won’t be able to fight in an MMA battle, right?
Tetora: Ossu! If that’s what you wanna do, Taisho, I don’t mind undergoing a little hardship!
Tumblr media
Kuro: Here I go then. Let’s go all out, Tetsu… …! HAA—!
Tetora: OWAH!—Ow-OW-OW! Give, GIVE! (1)
Tumblr media
Madara: Hmmm~. So, they’re training as a pair, huh? They look like they’re having fun, aren’t they?
Jun: —And, why’re you looking at me?
Madara: Fufu~n! Isn’t it obvious? Since the Karate duo are practising together, I’m gonna have to find practice partners of my own too~.
However, all that’s left here are inexperienced hands. There’s just no way I can force Adonis-san to take on all the burden of training with me alone—
You do understand what I’m getting at, don’t you~?
Jun: Nope. You do know no one will recklessly go along with you just because you tell them to, don’t you~?
Wouldn’t it be better to train with someone you’re already familiar with? Plus, I think it would be a good idea to have the Track and Field Team be the ones going up against the Karate Club, don’t you?
Madara: If that’s the case, the Track and Field Team wouldn't stand a chance. Fighting isn't our speciality, after all?
We would need more manpower to gain the upper hand over our opponents. I’d be very grateful if you could help out with that!
Tumblr media
Adonis: I agree with Senpai, too.
If Mikejima-senpai and I were to form a two-man team by ourselves, that means Sazanami would be left all alone.
We’re muscle-training buddies, aren’t we? I don’t want you to be the only one left on your own.
Jun: Haa~. I’m real sorry to have caused you to worry about me like that. Since you’ve gone and put it that way, I guess there’s no choice but for me to help out, after all!
Madara: Yes! It’ll really be a big help me too, Jun-san.
Jun-san’s an avid manga reader, so you’d have a wealth of knowledge from fighting and delinquent manga. It’ll be very reassuring to receive all sorts of advice from you~ ♪
Tumblr media
Jun: No, no way. I don’t think my knowledge of manga will be of any help in your situation, you know~? They’re just unrealistic techniques and theories that are probably nowhere near legit at all—
But then again~, this is for the sake of our much-anticipated Shuffle Unit after all, so why not pull out all the stops?
It’d be such a let-down if Kiryu-senpai were to one-sidedly dominate the match. If we could add some colour to liven up that practice match of BUTOUKAI’s, we can probably expect the viewership ratings to increase, won’t we?
Haha~! To think I’m actually using words like ‘increase viewership ratings’ when I’m really clueless about how to go about doing it. If Ibara—who’s an expert in that field—were to hear me, he’d probably burst out laughing, huh~?
Madara: Nope. They may be amateur ideas, but even so, that is the work that’s expected of us.
We’ll make up for that lack with enthusiasm! Let’s get started with training right away, Inexperienced Trio!
Tumblr media
Jun: EH~! Is that really what we’re calling our trio?!
Well, whatever. It doesn’t matter what we call ourselves; I’ll get to watch a red-hot battle either way.
There’s really no telling how all of this will turn out—the success of this Shuffle Project is riding on us!
Let’s show our opponents everything we’ve got~, Mikejima-senpai! Otogari-san!
Madara / Adonis: Yeah!
Tumblr media

What do you think that sonic 3 will be about?
Hello, my dear!❤️✨
I’m terribly sorry for taking so long to answer your ask. I wanted to make sure that my thoughts were clear and reflected what I felt. I feel that quite a few themes and ideas will be explored through the third Sonic film. I don’t necessarily believe that it’s once singular concept. I also feel that the film could, potentially, take on a darker and more serious tone than the first and second films. (This is only a gut feeling with what the writers for Sonic 3 have stated in the summer 2022).
Down below I’ve shared a couple of the main themes/ideas that I believe will be explored the most:
Teamwork:
Tumblr media
Since the dawn of Sonic’s existence, we’ve become very educated in the power of teamwork. This ranges from Sonic learning the values of working in team to him being a major advocate of teamwork. (It varies between alternate universes, such as games and TV show, and soft “reboots” of the series).
Towards the end of Sonic 2, we see the Wachowski siblings team up in an epic showdown against Dr. Robotnik and his Eggman Robot. We can see that each of them are highly skilled in various forms of combat. That is of no question. What should be empathized is them being in sync with one another. This was empathized by Sonic before he created a distraction (Sonic’s Speech). Seeing the interactions between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles during the Battle of Greenhills, I firmly believe that the theme of teamwork will be explored. However, it will be Sonic that voices the need of teamwork and not him learning how to work in a team.
When the three of them work together, they become a heroic dynamic. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are able to understand each other without the need of redirection. This is a form of trust and equal opportunity for them to fight. If a team is good, then it doesn’t necessarily need a leader either. A team and their members know how to communicate with one another and encourage each other to become the best versions of themselves.
I feel—and this is strictly my opinion—that the power of teamwork will be explored with Sonic being the advocate for it. I do hope that this makes sense. If not, I’m more than happy to clarify!😊
Grief/Acceptance:
Tumblr media
One of the hardest concepts to grasp in life is that not everyone can be saved… even if they are deserving of a second chance. No matter how hard one may try, it doesn’t always happen. There is also the notion of feeling guilt and grievance towards what was lost as well. All of these emotions rolled into one are facts that one must learn how to live with and come to accept it. I can completely understand that this may feel like a darker and grim tone. (That, and I feel like I can hear some of y’all saying “damn Mystery that’s pretty dark.” Well, Shadow has a pretty tragic backstory). I propose that this concept will be explored: Shadow coping with the loss of his friend/sister and Sonic being made aware of the darker reality of heroic actions. Both of these actions will have our characters become aware of losing something that was loved and accepting that it’s gone.
Here’s the thing: we can infer that the third film will be heavily influenced by Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) (Casey & Miller, 2022). The problem here is that we don’t know how much will be used. We don’t even know if Maria Robotnik will be a character in the film. This is a bold claim to make, I completely understand. I express this concept because of how the adaptation of the films are compared to games and interpretations. Concept art from the second film depicts the corpse of Gerald Robotnik leaning against Shadow’s stasis pod, indicating that this was a potential character (Hesse, 2022) However, this is concept art… we don’t have enough evidence to support the claim that he’ll be referenced in the third film. What do know is that Shadow will be one of the main characters and center of attention.
If anything, we could understand grief and loss the most through Shadow. And in order to approach the situation, Sonic might have to dig deep within himself to express how he felt when he lost Longclaw (and the need for self-isolation for ten years). I will not lie to you: having these conversations are tough. It’s uncomfortable to share feelings deep down and to talk about events that changed us negatively. I feel that having a conversation about losing someone that one loved will be talked about tenderly. With Sonic, I feel that we may see him not only express his feelings of losing Longclaw, but also experience him losing Shadow. Again, there isn’t enough evidence to support that the third film may 100% be a reflection of Sonic Adventure 2. All that we know is that there will be heavy inspiration. Trusting another person to share personal grievances may help other come to terms with loss.
I am not saying that people heal 100% when having these conversations, I am trying to say that it’s a starting point that leads to progress.
Hope✨:
Throughout everything, there is hope. No matter how hard the situation gets, no matter the outcome, there is still a sliver of hope that everything will be alright in the end. And despite everything, that hope is what inspires others to keep going. I feel that hope will be a big theme for the film as well.
And if y’all have any thoughts, please share them! I love to hear concepts and ideas!
