Just finished reading this book A History of the World in 100 Objects by Neil MacGregor, and now I’m going to have to make a pilgrimage to the British Museum. This book uses 100 objects from their collection to forensically carve out new truths about human history to reveal a world that is quite different from the perspectives taught in school, particularly in regard to finance, community, trade and population. This book has reawakened my love for museum studies. #arthistory #arthistorynerd #arthistorybabes #arthistorystudent #arthistorysnap #arthistorymajor #arthistoryjokes #arthistorytraveler93 #arthistorynerdalert #arthistorymemes #arthistorylesson #arthistoryforkids #arthistoryfeed #arthistorydog #arthistorycourse #arthistoryclass #arthistoryapplied (at British Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj53cjHOaau/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Jel Martinez also known as “Jel” was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Jel grew up in the predominantly Cuban-American neighborhood of Westchester and first noticed graffiti in the late 80s. Motivated by the tags in his area, Jel began writing with some friends for fun while still in elementary school circa 1989. Early on, Jel was influenced by local writers such as: Deed, DK, Doze, Meer, and Quatro to name a few. In 1993, Jel and lifelong friend Deed formed DGS (Da Graf Staff) and NCT (Notorious Crime Team) crews. In 1994, Jel became the youngest member of Ink Heads, an all-star collective of writers from Miami to NYC. Jel has been featured in many classic graffiti magazines such as Can Control, 12oz Prophet, Graff News, and Under Cover Magazine. His work has also been highlighted in various graffiti books such as: Miami Graffiti, Wynwood Walls, Flip the Script, and Miami Graffiti Art. In 2007 Jel went on a new endeavor in the fine art world. His paintings are referred to as 'The Buff' on canvas and his main focus is to bring the aesthetics and texture seen in the streets into his pieces. He has been a part of many well known galleries such as Locust Projects, Margulies Agency, Butter Gallery, Primary Projects, and The Museum of Graffiti. #artinterview #artinterviews #artistinterview #artistinterviews #graffitihistory #historyofgraffiti #arthistory #arthistorynerd #arthistorystudent #historyofart #historyofarts #miamihistory #historyofmiami #miamigraffiti #miamigraffitihistory #miamigraffitilegends #graffitimiami #wynwoodart #miami #westchester #inkheads #jelmartinez (at Miami, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcVUbBuu8FY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

While I’ve been researching and reading about claud monet and William Turner , I bumped into something uncanny . Claude Monet came to England and was influenced by William Joseph Mallord Turners work . From observing their work I believe they had similar temperament as well . The very term impressionism was coined after a painting by Monet :The sunrise https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impression,_Sunrise was criticised by a art critic calling it just an impression merely an impression rather then a proper painting . I’ve just seen a painting by turner called the Scarlet sunset : https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TUR_William_Turner_Sunset_Scarlet_D24666_10.jpg and the way the Sun and the reflection of the Sun is painted in that painting is uncannily similar to the way Monet painted the Sun and its reflection in the sunrise What I’m getting at is that the painting by Claude Monet was painted in 1972 after he visited England in 1870 to 1871 and turner painted the Scarlet sunset in 1840. So chronologically it fits So it’s quite possible that Claud Monet was very impressed by the way the Sun was painted and the reflection of it was painted in the Scarlet sunset by turner . What excites me is is the biggest player in impressionism was impressed by our own very English Turner #turner #claudemonet #arthistorystudent #arthistorynerd #sunrise #sunsetpaintings #sunrisepaintings (at Bowdon, Cheshire, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSjRdu2jZaZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

👩🏻‍🎓 During my student years at Columbia, I remember passing by Rodin’s 🇫🇷 “The Thinker,” 🇫🇷(Le Penseur) on the lawn outside Philosophy Hall and loving it. It never got old on me. Same with his Balzac at The MoMA and his pieces at The Met. Fernanda made far better use of her time in Paris than I and made sure to spend an entire day photographing this beautiful museum at the Hôtel Biron. Here is a little bit of Rodin’s story: Rodin began his career in the mid-1870s, following the end of the Franco-Prussian War, a period in which numerous monumental sculptures began to appear throughout Paris as a form of patriotism to the newly-established Third Republic government. His Parisian artist contemporaries included the Impressionist painters Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. Although Rodin’s sculptures are figurative in nature and arguably an adaptation of classical forms, art historians see them as the beginning of a modernist sensibility toward abstraction in sculpture because of their stark hyper-realism and fragmentation of the body. 24-03-2020 | Now that we need to stay at home as much as possible it was a good time to clear out my bookcase. I sorted out all the books that I'm never going to reread and the ones that I haven't read and, let's face it, never will. It feels really good!

I think today is as good as any to explore the relationship of identity and art culture. @tate has always been a place I sought out information because these definitions are so clear! This is also some of education that is often missed in the mainstream art narrative. New Patch @pinmuseum / Shop link in their bio. Vincent Van Gogh’s fame is due to his painting, of course, but it is his life that took him beyond a famous painter and made him a legend. Outside of his paintings, when people think of van Gogh they think of his ear - or lack thereof. “Gift of Flesh (van Gogh's Ear)” patch; part of their collaboration with designer @c.s.weiler. 🤭Today Fernanda and I worked until 11:00 pm ⏰ on Rodin’s post.😅 We uploaded it just to realize today is quote day. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 So this quote by Rodin seems pretty ad hoc for today. Fer is the one who does all the visuals in a+x and, as you can see, she’s a true artist. Auguste Rodin, (1840, -1917) French sculptor of sumptuous bronze and marble figures, considered by some critics to be the greatest portraitist in the history of sculpture. His The Gates of Hell, commissioned in 1880 for the future Museum of the Decorative Arts in Paris, remained unfinished at his death but nonetheless resulted in two of Rodin’s most famous images: The Thinker and The Kiss. His portraits include monumental figures of Victor Hugo and Honoré de Balzac. Rodin’s enduring popularity is evident by the numerous posthumous casts of his sculptures that continue to be made. #augusterodin #rodinmuseum #museerodin #rodinquotes #artquotes #artquote #parisrodin #arthistorystudent #arthistory #arthistorian #sculpture (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CETACozAaKZ/?igshid=16zlqs0c18szf
