my curse is that i keep falling in love with peacock shows that a) people forgot they have a subscription to, or b) keep getting cancelled- but if you DO have peacock and you want 20+ recs hit a stitchy up, yooooo
NUMBER ONE please watch The Resort. It’s about love and grief and going on a magical realism vacation in the mayan riviera and playing detective on some missing teen’s old ass pre smartphone cell phone 🤳🏼🌴
(definitely serves as a stand alone miniseries, but i’d love more)
Tumblr media
Look at this cast and tell me you’re not like “ohh.” THE RESORT. NOW.
2!!!! WE ARE LADY PARTS
a comedy about a British punk rock band named Lady Parts, which consists entirely of Muslim women. One of whom is obsessed with Don McLean, which speaks di-fucking-rectly to teenage stitchy
Tumblr media
threeeeee is BRILLIANT MINDS, the medical drama show i would make if you held me hostage. I would say “there are too many doctor shows already!!!” And youd’d say, “make one anyway!!! I have a weapon!!” But this doctor show is Special. It’s based on the work and character of neurologist Oliver Sacks, who i’ve been fascinated by since doing the opera adaption of The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat in college (brag). It’s kinda like if House had old school Quantum Leap levels of empathy and 🏳️‍🌈
Tumblr media
gif by @pedro-reed THIS SHOW IS LIKE A HUG. Did i MENTION mandy patinkin cameo that rocked my world??? Btw???!
shuttup i fucking loved the treasure of foggy mountain. Its number 4. i said what i said
Tumblr media
FIVE! Speaking of films on peacock, you know Conclave is on there right? RIGHT?! It’s the Mean Girls of pope movies. It’s everything to me, a cradle catholic who thinks canon Jesus was pretty lit, its the fandom I can’t gel with. And Ralph Fiennes has to care for his dead boss’s army of turtles need i say more
Tumblr media
Okay back to tv series… MR MERCEDES! It’s stephen king doing some hardboiled detective shit that only baaaarely steps out of reality. Like. One toe. One and a half. Shout out to all my Brendan Gleeson fuckers, i know you’re out there.
Tumblr media
Everyone else… You might not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
are we on 7? We’re on 7. It’s MRS DAVIS. Betty Gilpin is a nun raised by shady Las Vegas magicians who is Hot For Jesus and on a mission to destroy Artificial Intelligence and her mommy issues. My flabbers were gasted by this perfection.
(Complete narrative btw!)
Tumblr media
EIGHT. Do you love Stephanie Hsu??? Do you enjoy Nahnatchka Khan’s other work? Check out LAID. A sex comedy that is very preposterous and if we do not get a s2 I will be haunted forever. my Number 1 nepo baby Zosia Mamet is also here and she is not playing around
Tumblr media
NINE is a total left field premise. Claudia O’Doherty and Craig Robinson go into business hunting exotic pythons for cash. This might be the peak hustle culture show about a Tenuous Job. I have never touched a snake in my life and i’m gripping my guts from laughing like “so tru bestie!!”
Tumblr media
TEN is a P.S.A. Friends, i need you to know Peacock has some golden oldies. Is Little House On The Prairie your show when you’re sick on the couch? Did you dad raise you on old Quantum Leap? Have you been meaning to meet my best friend Mr. Detective Columbo!? They are HERE!

During the meal, Cardinal Chomalí asked the new pope why he had chosen the name Leo XIV. "He told me he is very concerned about the cultural shifts we are living through, a Copernican revolution really -- artificial intelligence, robotics, human relationships," the prelate said. "He was inspired by Leo XIII, who in the midst of the Industrial Revolution wrote 'Rerum Novarum,' launching an important dialogue between the church and the modern world."
(From) I'm already having fun with the new Chicago Pope and America Pope, of course. The jokes are good, the zeitgeist is celebratory, the communion wafers now come with extra bacon. Plenty of asterisks on account of I'm a gay atheist, but I married in to a Catholic family and we're all having a great time with it. But somehow, even knowing he was a math major, I wasn't at all prepared for having an AI-conscious Pope!
On one level, it's just surprising in a practical sense. We're talking about an institution which is, quite literally, a feudal gerontocracy; that it managed to identify a specific and novel technological innovation as the most pressing issue of the next two decades, and choose a leader appropriately, is very impressive. One is tempted to say they got lucky, and I'm sure that good fortune did play a part, but I don't think you can dismiss the role of genuinely good judgment at the conclave either.
More importantly, I'm cautiously optimistic that we might have a kinda-sorta-ally in shepherding AI to the public consciousness in a way that will help it be taken seriously. I will, without question, have extreme disagreements with the guy about the ethics of synthetic intelligence- profound stuff like morphological freedom, proper epistemology, and especially about the role of human ingenuity in the conquest of death. But on the near side of the strange horizon bearing down on us, the overwhelming concern is the security of AI systems and their alignment towards human thriving. Against the risk of existential catastrophe, the ethical differences between me and His Holiness Leo XIV become very small, and the benefits of having a papacy that takes those risks seriously are very large.

What’s in a name? The history of the papal name Leo
By Christian Edwards, CNN
Updated: 4:31 PM EDT, Thu May 8, 2025
Source: CNN
Leo is now tied for the fourth most common name chosen by popes, along with Clement. Only John, Gregory and Benedict have proven more popular.
But we haven’t had a Pope Leo in more than a century.
The last Pope Leo was Leo XIII, who was born in French-occupied Rome in 1810. He served as pope from 1878 until his death in 1903, making his 25-year papacy the fourth longest in the church’s history.
Leo XIII is remembered as a pope of Catholic social teaching. He wrote a famous open letter to all Catholics in 1891, called “Rerum Novarum” (“Of Revolutionary Change”). The pamphlet reflected on the destruction wrought by the Industrial Revolution on the lives of workers.
In a press briefing Thursday after the conclave, Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said the choice of name “is a clear reference to the modern social doctrine of the Church, which began with Rerum Novarum.”
Bruni said the name Leo was a deliberate reference to “men, women, their work, and workers in an age of artificial intelligence,” seeming to link the pace of technological change of the current era to that of the nineteenth century.
The first Pope Leo, who served in the fifth century, is known as “Leo the Great,” and is remembered for persuading Attila the Hun to halt his invasion and spare the Roman Empire from destruction.
Their meeting was rendered in a 1514 painting by Raphael. The Renaissance work is now displayed in the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, which the 133 voting cardinals – including Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Leo XIV – passed through as they proceeded into the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday for the start of the conclave.
In the painting, an unarmed Pope Leo – watched over by St. Peter and St. Paul – calmly confronts Attila and his army. Their meeting is celebrated by Catholics for showing that peaceful agreements can be reached without violence.
Leo XIV used his first words as pope to call for peace.
“Peace be with you,” he called out from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. “This was the first greeting of the risen Christ,” he said.
The name Leo derives from the Latin for “lion,” suggesting strength and courage.
In his address from the balcony, Leo XIV said the church can still hear “the weak but always courageous voice of Pope Francis,” his predecessor.

Lisa Carroll at The Guardian:
Donald Trump has been accused of mocking the election of a new leader of the Catholic church after posting an artificial intelligence-generated picture of himself as the pope on social media. The image, shared on Friday night on Trump’s Truth Social site and the White House’s official X account, raised eyebrows at the Vatican, which is still in the period of nine days of official mourning after Pope Francis’s funeral on 26 April. Featuring Trump in a white cassock, a gold crucifix pendant and mitre, or bishop’s hat, and with his index finger pointed towards the sky, the image was the topic of several questions during the Vatican’s daily conclave briefing on Saturday. It came as cardinals from around the world gathered in Rome before the conclave, the secret election process to choose a new leader of the 1.4-billion-strong Catholic church, and just days after Trump joked he would “like to be pope”.
Satan-worshipping heathen Donald Trump posted on Truth Social and the White House’s social media accounts a sacrilegious image of him sitting on the throne of St. Peter.

Pope Leo XIV made an impassioned plea for peace and expressed solidarity with imprisoned journalists in his first news briefing since becoming pontiff Monday, calling for "the precious gift of free speech and of the press" to be protected.
Leo, the first pope born in the United States, who is a dual citizen of America and Peru, entered the Vatican auditorium to a standing ovation and thundering applause as he gave his first address in front of some 6,000 journalists. The 69-year-old Augustinian thanked the crowed in English before reading out his statement in Italian.
"Let me, therefore, reiterate today the Church’s solidarity with journalists who are imprisoned for seeking and reporting the truth while also asking for their release," Leo said. He also urged journalists to avoid "ideological or partisan" language.
"We do not need loud, forceful communication," he said, "But rather communication that is capable of listening and of gathering the voices of the weak who have no voice."
Artificial intelligence, which he earlier said played a role in selection of his papal name, has to be used with “responsibility and discernment,” he said.
Leo, who was elected in a 24-hour conclave last week, ended his statement calling for journalists to choose the "path of communication in favor of peace" and shook hands with some of the attendees. He did not take questions, as is normally the case in papal press conferences. Leo's predecessor, Pope Francis, also declined to take questions in his first press conference in 2013.
Leo's remarks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with the newly elected pope for the first time Monday and discussed a 30-day ceasefire proposed by allies that Moscow is yet to accept, and abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia.
The conversation was “very warm and truly substantive,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, adding that he had invited Leo to Ukraine.
eo’s words echoed his first Sunday blessing as pontiff before an estimated 100,000 people when he called for a lasting peace in Ukraine and an immediate ceasefire and release of hostages in Gaza.
“Never again war!” Leo said from the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica.
Watching him deliver the Sunday prayers from a nearby rooftop was his brother John Prevost, who arrived from Chicago on Saturday. "Seems like he's been doing this for a long time because he's not nervous," he told NBC News' Lester Holt.
"It does seem like he was made for this role," he said.

Inside The Secret Meeting Where Mathematicians Struggled To Outsmart AI
The World's Leading Mathematicians Were Stunned By How Adept Artificial Intelligence (AI) Is At Doing Their Jobs
— Lyndie Chiou | Friday June 6, 2025 | Scientific American
Tumblr media
On a weekend in mid-May, a clandestine mathematical conclave convened. Thirty of the world’s most renowned mathematicians traveled to Berkeley, Calif., with some coming from as far away as the U.K. The group’s members faced off in a showdown with a “reasoning” chatbot that was tasked with solving problems they had devised to test its mathematical mettle. After throwing professor-level questions at the bot for two days, the researchers were stunned to discover it was capable of answering some of the world’s hardest solvable problems. “I have colleagues who literally said these models are approaching mathematical genius,” says Ken Ono, a mathematician at the University of Virginia and a leader and judge at the meeting.
The chatbot in question is powered by o4-mini, a so-called reasoning large language model (LLM). It was trained by OpenAI to be capable of making highly intricate deductions. Google’s equivalent, Gemini 2.5 Flash, has similar abilities. Like the LLMs that powered earlier versions of ChatGPT, o4-mini learns to predict the next word in a sequence. Compared with those earlier LLMs, however, o4-mini and its equivalents are lighter-weight, more nimble models that train on specialized datasets with stronger reinforcement from humans. The approach leads to a chatbot capable of diving much deeper into complex problems in math than traditional LLMs.
To track the progress of o4-mini, OpenAI previously tasked Epoch AI, a nonprofit that benchmarks LLMs, to come up with 300 math questions whose solutions had not yet been published. Even traditional LLMs can correctly answer many complicated math questions. Yet when Epoch AI asked several such models these questions, which were dissimilar to those they had been trained on, the most successful were able to solve less than 2 percent, showing these LLMs lacked the ability to reason. But o4-mini would prove to be very different.
Epoch AI hired Elliot Glazer, who had recently finished his math Ph.D., to join the new collaboration for the benchmark, dubbed FrontierMath, in September 2024. The project collected novel questions over varying tiers of difficulty, with the first three tiers covering undergraduate-, graduate- and research-level challenges. By April 2025, Glazer found that o4-mini could solve around 20 percent of the questions. He then moved on to a fourth tier: a set of questions that would be challenging even for an academic mathematician. Only a small group of people in the world would be capable of developing such questions, let alone answering them. The mathematicians who participated had to sign a nondisclosure agreement requiring them to communicate solely via the messaging app Signal. Other forms of contact, such as traditional e-mail, could potentially be scanned by an LLM and inadvertently train it, thereby contaminating the dataset.

Each problem the o4-mini couldn’t solve would garner the mathematician who came up with it a $7,500 reward. The group made slow, steady progress in finding questions. But Glazer wanted to speed things up, so Epoch AI hosted the in-person meeting on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18. There, the participants would finalize the last batch of challenge questions. The 30 attendees were split into groups of six. For two days, the academics competed against themselves to devise problems that they could solve but would trip up the AI reasoning bot.
By the end of that Saturday night, Ono was frustrated with the bot, whose unexpected mathematical prowess was foiling the group’s progress. “I came up with a problem which experts in my field would recognize as an open question in number theory—a good Ph.D.-level problem,” he says. He asked o4-mini to solve the question. Over the next 10 minutes, Ono watched in stunned silence as the bot unfurled a solution in real time, showing its reasoning process along the way. The bot spent the first two minutes finding and mastering the related literature in the field. Then it wrote on the screen that it wanted to try solving a simpler “toy” version of the question first in order to learn. A few minutes later, it wrote that it was finally prepared to solve the more difficult problem. Five minutes after that, o4-mini presented a correct but sassy solution. “It was starting to get really cheeky,” says Ono, who is also a freelance mathematical consultant for Epoch AI. “And at the end, it says, ‘No citation necessary because the mystery number was computed by me!’”
Defeated, Ono jumped onto Signal early that Sunday morning and alerted the rest of the participants. “I was not prepared to be contending with an LLM like this,” he says, “I’ve never seen that kind of reasoning before in models. That’s what a scientist does. That’s frightening.”
Although the group did eventually succeed in finding 10 questions that stymied the bot, the researchers were astonished by how far AI had progressed in the span of one year. Ono likened it to working with a “strong collaborator.” Yang Hui He, a mathematician at the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences and an early pioneer of using AI in math, says, “This is what a very, very good graduate student would be doing—in fact, more.”
Tumblr media
The bot was also much faster than a professional mathematician, taking mere minutes to do what it would take such a human expert weeks or months to complete.
While sparring with o4-mini was thrilling, its progress was also alarming. Ono and He express concern that the o4-mini’s results might be trusted too much. “There’s proof by induction, proof by contradiction, and then proof by intimidation,” He says. “If you say something with enough authority, people just get scared. I think o4-mini has mastered proof by intimidation; it says everything with so much confidence.”
By the end of the meeting, the group started to consider what the future might look like for mathematicians. Discussions turned to the inevitable “tier five”—questions that even the best mathematicians couldn't solve. If AI reaches that level, the role of mathematicians would undergo a sharp change. For instance, mathematicians may shift to simply posing questions and interacting with reasoning-bots to help them discover new mathematical truths, much the same as a professor does with graduate students. As such, Ono predicts that nurturing creativity in higher education will be a key in keeping mathematics going for future generations.
“I’ve been telling my colleagues that it’s a grave mistake to say that generalized artificial intelligence will never come, [that] it’s just a computer,” Ono says. “I don’t want to add to the hysteria, but in some ways these large language models are already outperforming most of our best graduate students in the world.”
