The Ascension of Christ (L'Ascension)
Artist: Gustave Doré (French, 1832–1883)
Date: 1879
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Petit Palais, Paris, France
Description
In the Christian tradition, the Ascension of Christ concludes Jesus’ work on Earth with his entry into the celestial sphere after His Crucifixion and Resurrection. Doré depicts Christ, in glory but still human, with wide-open arms and surrounded by a multitude of angels gesticulating theatrically. As seen in the distance through the clouds, the earthly world takes on the appearance of a wild and majestic landscape inspired by the Scottish Highlands, which Doré discovered during a trip to Scotland in 1873. Thus, the painter gives the Biblical account a concrete and dreamlike dimension, placing the onlooker far away from the Earth, amidst the Angels.
"While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven." Luke 24:51 (New International Version

Ascension Day Double Bill
Happy Ascension Day! Here is a pair of videos to help you keep the feast.
“Opulent Ascension,” an installation by Sean Scully in San Giorgio Maggiore (Venice Biennale, 2019). Inspired by Jacob’s dream of a ladder to heaven (Genesis 28:12), Scully’s stack of colored felt slabs rises more than ten meters toward the luminous dome of San Giorgio Maggiore, Palladio’s splendid Renaissance church in Venice. Amid the subdued grays and whites of the interior, the miraculous…

Decoding the Bible...
The Bible is a spiritual text not history. It’s an excised manuscript on how you raise yourself to God consciousness. The God of the Bible is the “I AM” within you.
I will say it again: "No one is coming to save you." That's YOUR job. I have done many posts about this very subject. You must "Go Within or Go Without. 🤔

The Ascension of Jesus | Acts 1:6-11, New Living Translation
So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”
He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

Feast of the Ascension.
29th May 2025
I particularly like the latter two. With Jesus' feet just dropping down into the view. Smart.

I just graduated from junior high school :D I cried during the photoshoot with our parents because mine didn’t come [: but my physics teacher kindly stepped in and took a picture with me instead. That made me really happy. Now I have to pack my things to move to another city for school. Hopefully high school will be kinder to me

a prayer of thanksgiving for the Ascension of Our Lord
Heavenly Creator, Spirit, Son, Father, Ghost, and Savior, Holy Trinity, Three-in-One, the Great Mystery, as we celebrate the day of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the Mighty Resurrected Redeemer, from earth to Heaven, we come to You with great thankfulness. Thank You for Creation, for the breath You breathed into us all in the Beginning, and for the beautiful world You have given us the honor of stewarding. Thank You for Your sacrifice, for the grinding of the serpent under the Son of Man’s heel through the blood of the true Pascal Lamb. Thank you for this reminder, through Your Ascension, of Your great promise to come again and judge the world, leading us to Paradise. May our lives be a testament to Your boundless love and grace.
Jesus, Beloved Lord, as we contemplate the beauty of Your Ascension, help our souls to grow in spiritual hope, wisdom, and joy. May the image of Your Ascension fill us with a profound sense of hope. May we see You rising as a beacon of light amid life’s storms, and may Your Ascension serve as a reminder that You are with us, even when we cannot see You. Teach us to rejoice always, even amid trials and tribulations.
Holy Trinity, on this Ascension Day, we pray that Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. May Your mercy rain down alongside Your mighty, true judgment, and may the Earth see peace for all, a love of neighbor, a dedication to the widow and orphan, and goodness in the heart of all. May we live knowing our duty is to bring Paradise upon this world that we steward.
Amen.
