Does Automation Really Reduce Payroll?
Automation and robotics are touted as a panacea to the problem of qualified worker shortages. Can the resource outlays more than pay for themselves once the automated lines are up and running?
Automation can significantly reduce payroll needs in various industries, including metal fabricating. The impact of automation on payroll is primarily due to its ability to increase efficiency, productivity, and accuracy while reducing the need for manual labor in certain tasks. Here are some key points on how automation affects payroll:
Reduction in Manual Labor: Automation typically reduces the need for manual labor, especially for repetitive, mundane, or physically demanding tasks (the three D’s: dull, dirty, and dangerous). Machines and automated systems can perform these tasks more efficiently and for longer hours than human workers, leading to a reduced need for a large workforce.
Shift in Workforce Composition: While automation may reduce the number of low-skilled positions, there is often an increased demand for higher-skilled workers who can manage, maintain, and optimize automated systems. This shift can change the nature of payroll expenses, with a possible increase in salaries for these higher-skilled positions, but overall fewer employees.
Increased Productivity and Efficiency: Automated systems often work faster and more consistently than humans, increasing overall productivity. This means that the same amount of work (or more) can be done with fewer employees, leading to a potential decrease in payroll costs.
Reduction in Errors and Rework: Automation can also reduce costs associated with human errors, rework, and quality control. Automated systems can maintain high precision and consistency, leading to improved product quality and lower waste, which indirectly affects payroll needs by reducing the need for additional labor to correct mistakes.
Long-term Savings vs. Short-term Investment: While the initial investment in automation can be significant, the long-term savings on labor costs can be substantial. Over time, the reduction in payroll due to automation can offset the initial costs of purchasing and implementing automated systems.
Training and Development Needs: With automation, there's a need for ongoing training and development of staff to work effectively with new technologies. This aspect of payroll might increase as employees are upskilled to handle more advanced systems.
In summary, automation generally leads to a decrease in payroll needs related to manual labor, but it also requires a shift towards a more skilled workforce. The overall impact on payroll will depend on the extent of automation, the nature of the work, and the company's adaptation strategy in terms of workforce development and restructuring.

This morning I woke up at 4:30 (cause fuck me I guess) and for some reason one of my first, conscious thoughts were "What if the WAIA looks like a priest cause Wilford killed the pope", and then I spent a good 10 minutes just thinking bout that.
I eventually came to the conclusion that Warfstache did it cause he thought it worked like The Santa Clause rules where if you kill someone you become them/their status. Then, reasonably, that lead me to think he was behind the Kennedy Assassination and the Queen's death, and he's just kinda confused why he hasn't been recognized for those titles yet.
...You all agree with me don't lie.

I was using my phone on the street, and i slide it in my pocket, and apparently in the next 3 minutes it decided to suicide because the next time i take it out its screen just straight up not work anymore, which is a huge problem because i cant log in to my phone and also cant save any data out despite looking through all solutions
Got a new phone (because the original phone was old enough anyways), try to see what i can salvage, and in the end i think i lost like half a year of photos because i somehow just forgot to backup that part of data. Funnily enough the fanarts i gathered from social medias are all intact, like basically all of them. Tens of thousands of fanart from years back to yesterday. Sure got my priorities right, huh?
Anyways ive been dealing with this mess today. Tbh the next time i pick up my pen i probably already forget how to draw lol. Why have i been dragging about fanart stuff so much lately.

[ID: a three color drawing (black, white, and teal) in the style of Seth’s illustrations from the Lemony Snicket series All The Wrong Questions. Five and Viktor (both about 13) are seated at the counter of a diner, talking. Luther (in his 20s), who is a patron seated next to them, looks concerned about what he is overhearing. Grace stands behind the counted holding a coffee pot and gazing into space. A missing poster for Ben is taped to the counter. In the mirror behind the counter, a reflection Diego and Patch (both 15) are visible in a booth. End ID]
i really should leave time between art posts for them to breathe and accumulate their fair share of notes, but also i need something to do while im waiting for my onions to caramelize.
In this installment: Five and Viktor meet over breakfast to discuss business, Luther is a Concerned Citizen, Diego and Patch also meet over breakfast to discuss business but in the background, and Grace is NOT a robot and this diner is NOT fully automated no sir. Also as usual Ben's face provides some ambiance, thank you Ben.

I really don't want to get into big discussions about AI tbh, but it strikes me how currently most of the criticisms drawn against it fall into the same handful of pitfalls.
- "it's theft!" which relies on a view where information is property, and as such needs to be safeguarded through IP laws (as if IP laws had ever protected the small artist against the corpos), which people don't really care about anyway(*)
- "it sucks!"/"anybody can see it's ai" which concedes defeat as its formulated, because "not good enough" implies "if it was, there'd be no issue" and we all know that's not true, on the contrary the better quality the more present the issues
- "there's no soul in it!" which is similar but also always leads to "what is art?"-style debate (hasn't been settled in the last 500yrs and probs won't for the next 500 either) and can be ignored by just going "good for you, I enjoy it tho so what's it to you?"
I guess some of it sticks on ppl you wouldn't have convinced otherwise, but man, there's some Bad Opinions in there.
