You mentioned DA roleplaying and I have to ask, how is that done? Do you use your characters from games? Make up a less important oc? Self insert?

So back in the day I was on three different invionsfree forums that were more or less ran and populated by the same core of people. A couple people were on one that weren't on another but the main players were all present on each one. Honestly, I might still follow some of them on my main tumblr but it's been so many years and so many url changes that I do not know who any of them are anymore lmao. Shout out it's Dylvon here, ya'll.

Anyway the subject of the RP changed based on the forum. Picking up a canon character or Warden Origin was done with an application. It was generally first come first serve. To play an OC you just made the character and ran with it. The beauty of forums meant that many threads could be going on at once and simply placed in a time line. This could all be meticulously organized so it really ended up feeling like you were one of many moving pieces in a puzzle. You could have NPCs that weren't yet in the story actually playing out what we knew them to be doing at the time of XYZ event in the game. Like on Reckoning while the Warden group was in Redcliff we were playing out Uldred's rebellion in a thread called, so very cleverly, "Breaking Circle". The three forums were as follows.

Reckoning: A re imagining of Origins with every origin surviving and every character from the franchise somehow in Ferelden to stop the blight. It was a mix of OCs and canon characters. I played Neria Surana. There was also a Solona Amell. We split the origin between us. Neria was the one that ratted Jowan out to my boy Irving. Solona was the one that actually liked Jowan. I believe we had Solona go to Ostagar with Wynne while Neria was excused from her business with Jowan bc the timeline shifted it closer to Uldred's nonsense. I was around for the start of this one and while Tabris is and shall always be my main Warden Surana is close to my heart simply bc I enjoyed being *this* Surana. Somnium: An Au. I went to college around the time this one was starting so I actually don't remember it's premise very well. It had something to do with the fade. I was Lyna Mahariel for all of probably four posts.

I forgot what we called the forum for DA2, but it was a standard playthrough of DA2 + some OCs. I played an OC named Elain who was the inspiration for the Inquisitor that was the liveblog at the beginning to this blog . A dalish elf who was taken away from her clan by a group of handsome apostates who she quickly realized would be the death of her. Admittedly, I do not think Elain was my best work in retrospect. Inquisition improved what was a poor character to begin with. A lot of contrived paper thin justifications for why she shared my opinions about various things that by all means she should not have shared. I was also in the middle of my Conservative Deprogramming so the takes were not hot. I was the designated "unpleasant character enjoyer" and therefore the only one that could play Petrice and Marethari straight. I understand Petrice. She is abhorrent but I understand her. Defending Marethari as a fool but maybe not the devil incarnate prepared me for being a Solas enjoyer.

If I were to make one now the premise I'd probably go with is "Inquisition agents doing the war table missions" with the honored Canon character positions being Sutherland and his posse, any named Inquisition agent in a war table briefing and any given member of The Chargers. Special mentions for Rylen, Charter and whoever the hell ran the base you can take in the other Orlesian map.

As for how people RP DA NOW?

Cause I had an idea of ALL the champions (or at least some) get eeby deeby-ed to the past in the then Hisuian region. Either before the main character or around the same time as them

Probably happened during a emergency champion meeting, and something was fucking up in the Sinnoh region. But when the group went to investigate they got sent back in time

I just know at least one of them will try befriend an alpha Pokémon but then get attacked by it. Probably Iris or Hau, acting like it’s a cute Pokémon that will love them once they pet it but it would actually gladly bite their hand off

I did also have this concept that like,, they were taken in by the different clans and such when they got there, I wanna say they got separated, so like the ones in the Diamond Clan are Diantha, Lance, Geeta, and Iris, and the ones in the Pearl Clan are Steven, Wallace, Leon, and Hau, and Cynthia joined the Ginkgo guild bc yeah she met Volo and wondered why they looked so alike and ofc Volo took her in, she might be useful in his own plans and such yknow, and maybe w her help they can both unravel the mystery of the Celestica people

That'd be dope tho cause imagine Volo going on abt the Celestica people to Cynthia and she's there wondering what happened too and they find all the Old Verses to finally unravel the secrets to what really happened to them

And like,, if Volo did attack the other Champions, imagine how conflicted Cynthia would feel, having to choose the one who took her in when they first got here or the people she just knows she's made bonds w, that she knows are also important to her but she just couldn't figure out why

What can I say about these two that I haven’t already?? It doesn’t matter whether it’s the regular universe, or the splatoon universe, or whatever other universe might happen in a fic, I really like these two as a pairing when I’m not paring Alarune with myself

I didn’t go into their initial interactions thinking they’d be a couple, but it helped me discover a lot of things about what I wanted out of Queenie’s character - as well as some things about myself. When authors say that characters ‘have a mind of their own’, it really came into play here.

Alarune also just. Really needed to be loved. While Queenie hasn’t experienced quite the same level of distress, I like to think she understands the place her partner is coming from, and why Alarune behaves the way she does... 

Queenie likes to lump on praise, even though she knows it isn’t always ‘deserved’, but she wants other people to see and appreciate the effort Alarune makes, even if that “people” happens to be Alarune herself - letting her know that she knows how much she tries - 

UM. ANYWAY. OTHER SHPS. I have lots of OC ships like Nightmare/Evian and Pansy/Groa but I’m going to try and think of some media based ones so people have an idea of the dynamics I like (I guess???)  It’s embarrassing bc I have way, way more notps than otps.

Player x Partner in Mystery Dungeon (Particularly Rescue / Explorers / Gates)

Is this a cop-out answer? Am I going to get called names for this one?

I know the whole thing is framed as a really strong friendship, but the absolute devotion the partner has for the player is really sweet. It doesn’t help that they ALWAYS have a moment where the player character “has to go” and you see how absolutely distraught the partner is at seeing them turn into little lights and be erased from existence. It’s okay, though, because they always come back.

They’re an inseparable team, so maybe they can also kiss, as a treat.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I don’t always do ‘shippy’ playthroughs of my PMD games. Sometimes I really am just content with them being friends, you know? But other times it’s just REALLY easy to give them OC names to fill the roles.

This game has an absolutely ridiculous ending, like DR2, but I think these two are really sweet together. Elaborating would kind of spoil some of the plot, but basically he’s a motivational goof and she’s stone cold and they both have something to hide.

Last Movie: I’m going to see the new Mario movie this weekend, but the last thing I watched was The Brave Little Toaster, and for the first time. It was a trip, but I still enjoyed watching it.

the way I STILL consider an AU w them sometimes literally just bc their particular opposites attract energy Intrigues me. like I love a good opposites attract pair in general, but there's something about Odelina's and Blade's that leads me to believe there's some romantic tension there?? you know this bc I've blabbed before lol.

anyway! I firmly believe that they'd both be a little bit "him/her?? really, brain?? why??" bc yeah, they're both friends, but they're still the vitriolic type of buddies who snark at each other, Blade in the dry way and Odelina in her typical "I will be a pain in the neck for fun" way. I feel like it'd be either that "WHY though" reaction @ themselves or just being confused bc... the other just isn't their usual type, haha. but it could be cute! I've always thought that affectionate, playful, mutual roasting in a relationship was kinda cute lol, and they seem like the type.

also genuinely supportive of each other?? they might bicker and poke sometimes, but their friendship is genuine and Odelina DOES actually respect Blade, and vice versa. she might give him a hard time, but she trusts his judgement and she listens to him, and Blade does the same (at least in my hc). Odelina knows that Blade's heart is in the right place, and Blade knows that Odelina is a lot more caring and compassionate than one might believe from the attitude. they've got a lot of similar priorities, I imagine? yeah.

TL;DR: their friendship is great and they've got some solid potential, but those two big hurdles vibe sm like deal breakers for a real relationship between them that they're not gonna be canon anytime soon. maybe an AU playthrough! but not canon. Briony seems like a better fit for Odelina, anyway.

buuuuut, as mentioned before in our chats - Blade being so fearful and protective in regards to Odelina's safety... like she'd understand where it's coming from, and appreciate it to a degree, but it'd also grind on her nerves and make her doubt how competent he thinks she is? I, Sierra, know full well that Blade trusts the MC and knows they can handle themself, he just worries bc his life has been like that. Odelina doesn't have that meta knowledge, and his protectiveness would genuinely frustrate her. it'd probably be a dealbreaker if they didn't talk about it??

likewise, Odelina is so headstrong and spiteful and does what she wants that I can't help but imagine this would clash w Blade and frustrate him. esp since the Ket value following orders and listening so much - this pops up enough when they're just platonic, can you imagine it in a romantic context? whew.

The one SMALL mercy I've found while looking up loz fics is that there's no lu fics in the ghiralink tag. For obvious reasons I think. Everywhere else seems to be a fucking HELLHOLE (the first thing I search when I first start looking for fics in a fandom is time travel and uh-- you can imagine what I found (BARELY FUCKING ANYTHING (and also lu)))

Also I haven't gotten around to watching an oot playthrough yet-- is it really that bad with Malon? (For the record I much prefer zelink and like-- I don't even really like zelink all that much beyond ss. And also I hc oot as siblings sometimes. So yeah.)

Honestly I would love to play oot but I can't :( and alas, watching playthroughs is just dreadfully dull (I got a decent way through an mm one though but gave up eventually). Regarding oot link's character though-- I admit I myself have not yet written a fic where it's not lu (or adjacent) so I don't really get the intricacies of his character (see also aforementioned playthrough dullness) so like. If you ever want to talk to someone about it all I would be interested

I also do the name thing, with game then character (on one hand the "hero titles" is just lazy and i really hate how it's become common and they would never give each other names like that but on the other the reason I haven't written much for MY links meet au is because I can't come up with 12 names that don't sound stupid and are also names they would give each other, so. And also apparently those names aren't official to lu (in comic jojo will use things like the old man (time) the smithy (four) the rancher (twilight) and full hero titles on posts (hero of the skies, hero of the four sword, etc)). So as you can see all bad things come from fandom, in this essay I will,

Ok so. It's been a while since I've fully played ss (like two months but my memory is just shit). So I might be wrong. But Link simply does not seem very sleepy to me? Especially not to the extent he is in lu.

For one-- our first introduction to him is him sleeping, yes, and we get told by many npcs and Zelda herself that he oversleeps, but there's a VAST difference between oversleeping and being sleepy. I myself am bad at alarms and such and beyond Premium Loftwing Mail (letter spat in your face) there's really nothing to wake him up, so he'd probably just sleep too long

Also he's been having dreams about the Imprisoned for who knows how long. Dude probably ain't sleeping that well (fi I love you but I think that might have been a mistake)

(Side note he's still in school and there's an open book on his desk-- he COULD be staying up late studying. Unlikely but I think that would be interesting)

Honestly it all just seems like teasing to me-- there's no indication that he's ACTUALLY constantly sleeping too long, just that it's happened enough times that some people have noticed (and it's not like everyone says it). Honestly the only thing pointing to a constant sleepiness is his "sit too long on a stool and start nodding off" animation (which is still like, really funny imo. how are you even DOING that you are SITTING STRAIGHT UP)

Now, delving into my own hcs and such-- he did not sleep. After Impa calls him lazy and too late at the earth temple, something I think would distinctly Fuck Him Up (he SAW the chains Zelda was held by), he would simply-- forgo sleep until it was necessary. I've seen estimates that sksw took place over about 11 months, and that's what I generally use in my fics, so-- my dude really said "I wont rest until I find Zelda" and then took a knife to his sleep schedule

(Side note-- do you think they held a funeral (or Skyloft equivalent) for Zelda? Like it seems that after a week or so of searching, the reasonable conclusion of her being dead would be reached (especially if her bird came back, which-- what's up with that? There must be some nesting area for loftwings, so either it would be seen there or it would also be presumed alongside Zelda if it got sucked down to the surface))

So anyway. His tiredness is self imposed, not something he's always had. (One of my febuwhump fics was that he was literally so exhausted he got hurt and passed out midfight. It was fun.)

Also like I don't know if it's just me but sleepy and tired have different meanings-- sleepy is, idk, cuter? Softer? And tired is. I haven't slept in 17 hours and before that I slept for three hours. (Maybe THAT'S just why it bugs me so much)

And also! Like you said! Beyond the eyebags (which are always there, lending credit to my theory of oversleeping because he simply didn't sleep well/enough) he's really... not tired OR sleepy for the majority of the game

Anyway moving onto lu :) SKY BEING THE LAZY ONE REALLY BUGS ME BECAUSE SIR HAVE YOU EVEN PLAYED THE GAME. Have you played botw2? If so, what do you think of it so far?

I've been watching playthroughs! I can't afford the game rn, but I hope to get it myself eventually! In part for the experience, in part bc the ppl I'm watching play are hardly looking in the direction I want to. A game with so many options means that no one will play the same way, so that means if I want the best TotK experience, I'll have to make it for myself.

That said, the game thus far is driving me nuts (/pos and derogatory).

First and foremost, the game is trying to sell the fact that Hyrule and it's founders only came into play just before the Imprisoning War??? Baby, I understand that Hyrule could have been refounded after Ganondorf came in guns blazing after having just squashed the Hero and Princess of Time, and so Sonia and Rauru would be rebuilding Hyrule and re-establishing the monarchy. That makes sense. But that's just straight up not the case! I could go over all the timeline inaccuracies right here but my brain hurts trying to put it into words. The LoZ timeline has been a mess for over 20 years but this is the first time it's contradicted itself without a fix from what I've seen.

Naming the king Rauru was a fun little detail though, I like that 🙂

Speaking of Rauru, I have only seen as much of him as the Great Sky Island and one (1) tear, but he's going into the Fictional Dads of All Time folder. Both a goat and a G.O.A.T. I do not know much about Sonia yet but I like her. Both the king and queen really scored on marriage partners imo.

Tulin, my son. I have not played the game but the AI is so darn good it's job and he's saved the guy I've been watching so many times. I do kinda wish we could've fought alongside Teba but dang, Tulin is not just good, he's a really fun character in his own right and I'm glad he's here.

I haven't as strong feelings about Yunobo but he is a delight to be around. Rolling him around and smashing stuff is quite fun as well.

Bonus that I've taken to naming the sage mimics. So far we have Terin and Shobae. I've already decided to name the next (last?) two Raja (pronounced "rah-hah") and maybe Po (Po and Sidon).

Mostly unrelated, but Tulin's champion ability reminds my of the LU Champion AU craze from a a while back! That was the first thing I thought of when I saw Tulin use his power for the first time and it made me chuckle.

It still doesn't feel real to have the name of Zonai popping up in so many places in-game. Like, wow. Ok. I guess this is happening. This has still not sunk in.

Speaking of which, did you know that the Zonai tech was originally Sheikah tech in development? I'm actually really glad that it got changed because using a different kind of tech with it's own distinct color/aesthetic not only separates TotK from BotW, but it also prevents the Sheikah tech from getting stale. I wish we could maybe see some more Sheikah tech aside from the towers and the Purah Pad though, just to make it feel like it hasn't totally up and left. I did see a comment on yt say that the ppl of Hyrule probably dismantled the divine beasts and other weapons so they never have to worry about the tech turning on them again. I think that's a good way of looking at it, although the removal of the towers felt highly unnecessary from an in-universe perspective imo if they're just gonna build new towers.

Side note that when that one character (I can't remember if it was Purah or Josha) called them Skyview Towers my SS brain went 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

things i think the Hargreeves should do post apocalypse:

Luther:

Any adult shop classes because I genuinely love mechanic!Luther and have been slipping that into like, all my aus where I can.

Goes to slam poetry nights because he genuinely enjoys poetry (hello space poetry from episode one about the comet or whatever) and maybe one day is confident enough to share his with other people

Gets some gym bros who all enthusiastically support him in a bro sort of way who are constantly getting their minds blown by how much Luther can lift and constantly going “YOOOOOO” while Luther tries to downplay things bc he’s embarrassed 

I don’t know I just want Luther to have actual friends

Probably goes to every astronomy event where people have telescopes and is known in that scene so every time there’s some event at the observatory newcomers are like “what the FUCK” when this bigass bodybuilder comes in and starts gushing about which planet is visible I don’t know

Spearheads a lot of the family’s museum (that aren’t art museum) outings, especially if they have any exhibit that even vaguely relates to outer space or planets or the moon or anything. 

Probably gets up at godawful hours on the morning to go hiking and see the sunrise because he really liked doing that on the moon and even though it isn’t quite the same he still loves to do it. (If he’s not hiking he goes up to Grace’s roof garden to watch it)

Diego:

He already does his fighting at the gym which is kind of cool I’m going to gently assume that he already has gym bros and if he doesn’t then he becomes somewhat more approachable after everything

(having your mother comes down to the gym and kiss your cheek or your teenage brother hop in to drag you away or you other very flamboyant sibling dance his way into the gym to fetch you doesn’t exactly do wonders for keeping a reputation going)

I do want to think that Diego takes up like,, whittling but I think he’d have to do it away from Vanya bc,, you know,, Leonard/Harold whatever was a woodcarver or something but idk maybe Vanya is cool with it - but just the image of Diego hunching over and carving at something and Klaus leaning over and trying to enthusiastically guess what it is while getting it super super wrong because Diego is a beginner and his starting pieces are all lumpy monstrosities makes me smile

Diego taking cooking classes so that he can surprise Grace by taking over dinner sometimes and letting her relax and do what she wants

I’ve said this somewhere before but Diego spearheading picnic events and forcing the family out of the house because he thinks it’s a nice thing for Grace to see the world and on god if any of his siblings fight him about it he will stuff their asses into a picnic basket himself because they are GOING

Gets dragged by Klaus into dumb ideas to “give ourselves a CHILDHOOD diego” more than any other member of the family. Which basically means that Diego is the one Klaus grabs to surf a mattress down the staircase and other dumbass ideas

Allison:

Probably ends up redecorating the mansion and completely redoing it to make it more modern and also less the horrible hellscape with taxidermied animals on the walls that it is. Her and Grace squad up to plan everything and then Allison makes everyone help when it comes to things like painting and building all the nice ikea furniture she just bought

Takes parenting classes as sort of extra credit for her custody case for Claire. I feel like eventually she and Patrick genuinely talk to each other, maybe at some kind of joint therapy, and sort of clear the air between them. They might never get back together, but they at least become sort of friends again. Mainly because I like the Patrick I’ve built up for myself in my head tbh

Occasionally attends craft classes with Klaus when she has a spare moment, because he goes to like,, all the local craft classes. She likes to spend the time with him. Is probably the only sibling who willingly attends with Klaus, but others get dragged along as well.

Probably takes up scrapbooking? She wants to have something physical to give to Claire so decides to go through like,, all the camera footage of their childhoods and pick out good images (because goodness knows they didn’t have cute family pictures) and maybe Grace uploads some of her memories to a harddrive with cute shit and they scrapbook together let me have this

on a related note buys a camera and starts trying to catch her siblings doing cute things for her scrapbook with the sort of determined energy of someone who has realized that she’s having to do her scrapbooking from security camera footage because their childhoods were fucked up

(she has a bajillion pictures of herself - thank you paparazzi - but all she has on her siblings is like... what, one of diego’s fighting posters and the two pictures of Vanya from her book and from the newspaper on the fucked up apocalypse concert??)

Klaus:

Genuinely goes to any and all craft classes offered at the community center and random places around town. Usually sort of a disaster, always a disaster when he drags along his siblings, and always proudly brings home his third grader worthy creations that Grace proudly puts on the shelves. He gets better at things the more he goes to them though, so there’s a progression of skill level in his crafts. Allison goes with him when she has time.

Has a knitting circle that he attends that is primarily made of little old ladies who dote on him. Five occasionally goes with but it often conflicts with Five’s other extra curricular activities.

Bakes at home a lot, with Grace’s supervision after some certain incidents that should remain unnamed. Tends to get ‘creative’ with the recipes but now that Grace is present to make sure it won’t be a disaster everyone is more willing to taste whatever comes out. Has, on at least one occasion, insisted on decorating cookies or icing cupcakes or whatever as a ‘family bonding activity.’

Goes with Ben to the movie theater frequently even to the gross horror movies that Klaus hates and Ben absolutely loves. Klaus always insists Diego come to the horror movies so that Klaus has someone physically there for him to hold onto when he’s scared. Five comes sometimes as well, but tends to critique the special effects - especially blood and blood splatter - which makes other people turn around to hush them.

Five:

I genuinely want to say he does gymnastics lessons. Mainly because I feel like he needs to do SOMETHING physical and get rid of his excess energy, and also I think it would be hilarious for him to be tumbling and teleporting and shit at the same time what a wild ride. Absolutely refuses to allow his siblings to come to any competitions or whatever, but they all end up showing up anyway.

Starts learning instruments. Asks Vanya for lessons on the violin so they can play together, it’s very cute. I also wants to say starts learning the piano because someone sent me an ask once about it and it was super valid. And Five can learn both because I say so and he doesn’t go to school he has the free time

Is on first name basis with a bunch of scientists and mathematicians online where they all yell numbers at one another. Probably in a super technical group chat with a bunch of people with actual doctorates who don’t actually know that Five doesn’t have a doctorate. 

Actually you know what just let Five start actually going to college like let him go to the local community college or start taking college classes or something. He can get his GED or whatever. Let this boy get a DEGREE

Goes to art classes, first because drawing therapy was something Klaus suggested and he wanted to get his brother off his back. Later because he enjoys it. There’s a life drawing group he frequents - he’s the youngest there and new people always do a double take when he shows up but Five is very meticulous in his art and is actually pretty good. Grace goes with him as well because I say so and they deserve bonding time together

Ben:

I mean he’s kind of dead but let him do things with his siblings as well!!

Like I said earlier, a total movie buff and loves going to see things in theaters. And by movie buff I just mean he sees a lot of movies. Bizarrely into horror movies for how sensitive a kid he always was. He goes to the theater with Klaus for the most part but likes to watch movies with the family as well. Klaus makes him watch every animated movie with him in return for Ben dragging Klaus to watch horror movies.

Probably ends up with a youtube channel?? does movie reviews and game playthroughs whenever Klaus has enough energy to manifest him. Is pretty popular but half his followers are because of the bizarre shit that goes on in the backgrounds of his videos. People figure out Klaus (who is a frequent guest) is The Seance and then Five jumps in to tell them dinner is ready or something and they’re like “wait is that the Seances brother with the portal powers who vanished when he was a teen and still IS a teen” and the fact that ben probably has a username that’s some shit like “bentacles” that klaus set up for him everyone is theorizing that the channel is just. Ghost Ben and Five who are being manifested by the Seance to?? play games? 

well. they’re half right.

it certain doesn’t help the rumor mill when Ben makes sarcastic comments about dying or how he can’t get arrested because he’s legally dead and shit like that.

“Yeah sorry I didn’t post yesterday Klaus’s knitting group ended up getting arrested somehow - I was there and I’m still not sure went down - so that’s why I didn’t manifest”

Vanya:

I mean obviously she plays the violin that’s her job. She also teaches Five how to play the violin when he expresses an interest!! She is very touched by the gesture

Swims to keep fit and is a frequent at the pool. Klaus once bugged her to let him come, but it’s really her thing that she just does by herself when she wants to get out of her own brain. She does promise Klaus that they’ll take a family trip to a water park one day though, which he enthusiastically takes her up on.

Attends a book club that she also half-shares with Ben. Ben doesn’t come with to any of the meetings, but she always buys two copies/borrow two copies from the library so that Ben can read along with them and he and Vanya discuss the books before she even goes to any of the meetings. Probably thought there would be more discussion of the books than complaining about their general lives, but keeps going because she lowkey wants an excuse to keep frequenting the bookstore where this cute girl works.

Her and Five steadily are making their way through all the coffee shops in the city (as well as through their menus) in search of the best cup of coffee. It’s just a fun thing they do together that the other siblings occasionally go with as well whenever they have time. Both Five and Vanya have notebooks where they record their ratings based on a variety of factors. Diego calls them pretentious and Klaus always gets the ones which are barely classified as coffee when he goes with (Five steals sips and makes faces but continues to do so)

Grace:

Frequents art museums and galleries! Supports a lot of beginning and local artists by buying their art and has a lot of rotating paintings and prints in the house depending on her mood. She got rid of pretty much like,, all the old painting that Reggie had up except for a few of her favs which she relocates to her new room that Diego put his foot down on giving her

Goes with Five to his art classes at first because, as a minor, he needed an adult to go with him for nudity reasons (it’s a life drawing class man). Grace didn’t expect to actually draw herself but Five insisted because he felt awkward with her just standing there. She prefers abstract styles herself (so many people at this art class have a crush on Grace you have no idea)

(actually goes with Five to most things he’s beginning for himself for at least the first lesson to sign him up as an adult because Five loathes having to ask his siblings)

Commissions someone to come and paint a portrait of the family that’s for them, where none of them are stiff and they’re all happy. She tips the artist fabulously for it and hangs the new family portrait in the place of honor above the mantle where Five’s portrait used to hang (they all destroyed it as a family bonding activity)

Keeps bees on the roof after one of the kids showed her an article about saving the bees. She can’t get stung and genuinely enjoys hanging out up there where she ALSO started a big garden because I say so and Grace deserves to be surrounded by flowers and bumblebees and happiness don’t @ me

(Wendy Oldbag, Lotta Hart, Larry Butz, etc.) honestly, i like them a lot! i don’t know why people hate them so much - i mean, i know lotta lied, and wendy is a horrible old flirt, and larry just kinda sucks all around. but they’re also pretty funny to have around! larry is a constant comic relief who reminds you how much better nick & edgey are in comparison, lotta is likeable as a general character (like in 2-4, although yeah, not remarkable), and wendy oldbag is really funny. she’s so fucking funny. none of you appreciate wendy oldbag’s quirks and you are SLEEPING ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think Dual Destinies deserved its M-rating? no idea, holy shit, it got an m-rating? i mean every game before it has had blood violence and very mild swearing, and since DD probably doesnt have anything too sexually risqué, i doubt it deserves a rating any harsher than the rest of the series

here’s a long post of me talking about my dragon age OCs, primarily wardens

i've been thinking a bit more about my tabris and what makes her, you know, different or special to me, why bother writing about her in my alistair/warden/zevran fic instead of another warden (though she's the only alistair-mancer i have so that's the doylist explanation). mehren sometimes comes across as unsympathetic to other people's problems. as warden, she's more eager to fight, as a way to take out her feelings/revenge on the world. in my warden-as-inquisitor au, where mehren doesn't get rescued by duncan but effectively gets a stay of execution from uldred's whole mess, and ends up just sent to ostwick, she discovers that same martial prowess and thrill from a fight, but she's not allowed to just, go off the rails the way warden surana is. this is probably healthier for her in the long run, but it also means she gets an additional ten years to stew in her resentment until the circle rebels. she has very little patience for anyone involved in the templars or the chantry, though she's much more willing to at least not snap at circle apologist mages than at non-mages. she's grimly determined to fix things, and she does enjoy the fighting, but when people (especially templars or chantry folk) are like "woe is me" she's like "what about my woe. when were y'all going to address that." she can be a little callous, like "look, everyone suffers, it's part of life, stop whining about it and pick yourself up." kallian, whose name is absolutely going to change bc that is the default ftabris name lmao, might also initially come across as callous, or even flippant. but that's because she has decided, if the world is going to be shit, and she's going to be responsible for part of it, then dammit she is going to be responsible for all of it. she will shoulder every burden she can to spare the people around her. it's a little bit "i'm already broken, so what's this burden to me; if i can spare my friends/this stranger/anyone the pain i've been through then what's a little more". idk if she would say it like that, or even talk about it at all, but even when she was trying to be as practical and pragmatic as possible, she didn't harden alistair or leliana, and she didn't make alistair be king, even though it was the better decision politically. if kallian ended up inquisitor somehow, she would gladly make every hard decision and take as much weight of the whole fucking south of thedas as possible. she wears the wedding ring of the man she didn't get to marry through the whole fifth blight, partially because she made a promise, partially because she couldn't save him, and partially to remind herself that she can't rely on other people to solve her problems. it doesn't work. she's trying to be pragmatic and practical, but underneath it, she's an idealist. which is part of why i think it charms her when alistair is like "you're so pretty and competent", especially since he initially was like "haha what kind of warrior could you even be". she's made a difference with him, to him, and he noticed and appreciated her. i also, in her playthrough, which was my first, avoided denerim until the very end, because i didn't know she could go back without like...repercussions, but also, i think it reads very well as, she's scared to go back. what if all this new warden stuff, all this responsibility and companionship, what if it just...goes away. what if she can't do it in her old home. what if they see where she came from and are like "oh haha nvm". she tries to keep everyone else's spirits up, and takes on too much herself. she was also absolutely prepared to die to defeat the archdemon. i the player was about to lose my fucking mind to keep that from happening, but she would never have allowed alistair to do it. the relief, when morrigan offered an alternative, was overwhelming, but she definitely had decided that was just one more burden for her to take on, to prevent other people from hurting themselves. (if she ever saw the leliana from the inquisition alternate future, she would have absolutely broken. she did all that work and she still couldn't even save her dear friend from the bitterness of the world. it didn't even matter.) she asked about all her companions' lives and stories, and when they asked about her, she deflected or lied. she downplayed things. i think over that year her friends picked up on it, zevran and leliana right away since they were doing the same thing, and morrigan and wynne, and maybe even oghren and sten a little bit (though i have no idea if sten would have read anything more into it than her being a good leader), but alistair was the only one she ever like...told things to in detail. he was the only one who ever got to see her panic or break, and that was mostly accidental, since they were the two wardens and spent the most time together. regardless of their relationship, she would have been so so hesitant to show that to him. okay, i think writing all that shit out helped me remember why i love her so much and why she is the only other warden besides mehren i can like...remember. even though i'm so attached to all my inquisitors. (mehren as inquisitor, or even just as lived-through-the-blight, fucking idolizes [kallian]. she's like DID YOU SEE THAT BADASS LITTLE ELF WOMAN. DID YOU KNOW SHE SINGLE-HANDEDLY SAVED THE WORLD. DID YOU KNOW ABOUT HER DETERMINATION IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY SHE'S SO COOL. which is funny, bc if they were fellow warden recruits, mehren would think kallian was boring and holding everyone back lmao)

origins! although inquisition is very close as well.  inquisition was my favourite for a very time, but like midway through last year i replayed origins and it just felt.....so good. i really struggled with enjoying dao because of the clunky fighting system but an amazing mutual introduced me to a mod that lets u skip fights basically lol, so i was just able to focus on the story/characters/exploration of the game, which just....made me realize how immensely beautiful the game actually is, and i fell in love all over again aaaaa

how did you discover dragon age?

i was a huge mass effect fan ! mass effect was the game that motivated me to make this blog, actually, and obviously through following people i saw a lot of posts from the da community as well. so i bought origins and inquisition (i had NO idea there was a da2 until half way through awakening lmao) and tried to play origins but HATED it gtrhutgrhugtr and then eventually gave it another try like a month later and completely loved it and now here we are

not as many times as some people on here have - i would say origins maybe four times, da2 maybe twice, inquisition three times. but that also doesnt count all the timesw ive created new games and then abandoned them lol bc theres too many to count

at first it was rogue dual wielder ! i played as a rogue in every single first-time playthrough and idk i felt that class has always been the easiest/most op. but in the last maybe 2 years it’s changed to mage. ive always been super intimidated by magic classes in every game i play but i LOVE inquisition’s mage classes/specializations and i can never go back now

do you play through the games differently or do you make the same decisions each time?

im so so so bad and i usually end up making very similar choices, but usually bc i just......replay the same characters every time hgtuhgtruhgtrui. i REALLY need to make more da ocs to explore more choices but....i dont want to lol i already have to many. i still havent sided with the templars in a playthrough like i just cant do it 

go-to adventuring group?

i always bring my characters love interest with them no matter what, just bc its cute, but usually i try to evenly cycle the other characters around that. i always try to have a warrior/rogue/mage in every party. but sometimes i’ll go warrior/warrior/mage/mage especially if i need to focus on straight damage and a LOT of healing lol

dao - alistair + zevran + wynne (wholesome and also funny)

da2 - anders + fenris + merrill (SO much chaotic energy)

ashara lavellan, my canon inquisitor who was never supposed to be canon tghtgurhtrg. my original canon inq was a trevelyan rogue, who was super nice and good. i made ashara so that i could actually play as an evil/mean character without feeling bad lol, oh and i also wanted to see what the deal with solas was bc i had heard his romance was good ;;;;) anyway that backfired and i ended up completely falling in love with her, and i STILL couldnt make the tough choices with her so i was like ok maybe she isnt THAT evil and now shes just..... the way she is now i guess lmao

i only have like 3 protag da characters and they’re all canon, although emeraude is an au. so ella is my canon warden and ashara is my canon inquisitor, but emeraude does exist in that universe, bc i hc she befriended the warden and alistair when they visited the alienage, and she was very outspokenly angry and didn’t really give a shit that alistair was going to be heir. which alistair really,,, appreciated i guess? so emeraude is made his official elven adviser after his coronation but she also kinda helps out as a royal protector because she’s one of the only people in court they both trust completely lol. also she is....stronk. 

and the only other characters i have for da are obviously side characters who are related to my canon protags so. they’re all canon as well lol

what did you name your pets? (mabari, summoned animals, mounts, etc)

ella named her dog ser bark gthutgrhutghruihtr she thought it was cute ok

emeraude just went with barkspawn since alistair came up with the idea as a joke but she thought the joke was so bad she made them keep it as punishment vjhuightui

i dont really have a hawke oc but.....he named his dog shepard in my playthrough ! like from mass effect ;;;;)))

have you installed any mods?

origins is modded to hell and back and i genuinely couldn’t play the game without mods at this point. inquisition is slightly modded but im in the process of removing them all, and only keeping a few because my game runs pretty terribly with them installed 

did your warden want to become a grey warden?

ella did ! but it was kind of,, a naive childhood dream, she had a really romanticized view of the wardens and she wanted a life of excitement and bravery and adventure, not really taking into consider all the bad things about it (and obviously not knowing the full truth about what it means to be a warden)

emeraude did NOT want to be a warden. she basically had to be dragged out of the alienage because she wanted to stay and protect her community. she never really enjoyed being a warden, although her friendship with alistair was its one redeeming quality 

hawke’s personality?

uh i cant remember the colour/personality thing but he was a combo of funny/ethical. mostly there for memes tho. 

did you make matching armor for your companions in inquisition?

for origins i do ! i always make sure alistair and ella wear the grey warden armour, as well as every warden in awakening. thats like, all theyre allowed to wear lmao.

if your character(s) could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change?

ella would obviously change her family’s murder lol, and emeraude would at least try and change what happened at her wedding, to prevent shianni and the others from being hurt. 

ashara would change romancing solas :((( she was so angry at herself after discovering who he was, and she felt weak and foolish which she HATES more than any other feeling, so she definitely wishes she had never met him for a long time. after she kind of processes it though, and learns to deal with her anger, her answer would be that she wishes she had saved the chargers. it’s the one move she made that actually keeps her up at night sometimes. 

do you have any headcanons about your character(s) that go against canon?

ghuitrhuigtrhugtr so many. canon? dont know her. 

the biggest example would be that i hc king!alistair was at the winter palace during the wicked hearts level. because uh..... celene and the fereldan monarchs had been corrosponding for over 10 years, trying to build up rapport, of COURSE the king would be there to see who the potential ruler/s of orlais would be and whether or not he ought to be worried. like. im sorry but alistair was there lol you can’t change my mind. i also hc he helps ashara with information about the grey wardens during this chapter, because ???? it just makes sense??? im so angry i wish this was canon

are any of your characters based on someone?

ok it was unintentional but ashara reminds me of an english teacher i had in highschool who was very scary but also....really cool and i loved her. it was an accident but,, still counts. 

who did you leave in the fade?

gtiturghtugh okay at the risk of pissing off EVERYBODY who reads this, i left hawke in the fade, even though it was a toss up between hawke and stroud. it was ashara’s fault tho !!! she would have 100% prioritzed an alliance with the grey wardens over like,, some guy. it broke my heart but yeah That happened.

hello i’m here to write a post rambling abt my latest hyperfixation and my thoughts abt it now that i feel i might be getting less serotonin from it these days.

so my latest hyperfixation is fe3/h which i will now be shortening to 3h in hopes that it doesn’t show up in any tags and also i’m too lazy to keep slashing it when i mention it. i’m writing this on the hopes of my interest winding down rn, i feel less excited about it these days than at the beginning of the month when i suddenly decided to look it up/look more into its fandom content after feh released the latest 3h banner. i was talking to my sibling abt it bc i had gotten de/due on a free summon or something idr i just got him and i brought up offhandedly that i shipped him with this other unit in 3h bc having been on the internet and fandom-adjacent spaces since 2019 at least means you see 3h content to some degree. which means the context is that i had somehow seen ash/edue on twitter before and thought it was a cute pairing but didn’t really look more into it bc i didn’t really care as i do not own a switch nor will be getting one any time soon (i could watch a playthrough but idc enough. too many routes and intricacies that would be best understood if i just played it myself, ya know).

anyway. latest feh banner and this convo with my sibling means i look up ash/edue again and for some godforsaken reason THIS TIME i’m like ok. time to FUCKING DIVE IN and so i read a bunch of fics and whew-ee ash/edue brainrot time which is hilarious bc i literally know fuck all about the game and had to read through the fandom wiki walkthrough to get all the plot/story points so i could better understand the individual units and also wtf is going on (which you don’t really need to know imo esp if you’re just looking at a ship which only includes ppl from one house but i wanted to know at this point bc i was in deep-dive mode). i like the physical aesthetics and the personality match of ash/edue so i’m not really surprised i was like ALRIGHT HONING IN but man imo not the greatest thing to get into a series through a singular ship. anyway i was hype so i was coming up with ideas for drawings and looking up general 3h content but now it’s coming to the end of the month and i feel like it’s starting to wane ...

i mean i still like ash/edue but i’m just less interested bc i’ll never really play 3h and even though during this month my sibling actually got 3h and is playing through it rn, i just don’t really feel like playing the actual game bc i already know all the plot twists and points so what’s the point. and also bc i was so ash/edue focused for a bit, now i’m like hehehe only ash/edue when i see general non-ship content but like. i think both these units are interesting past their duo dynamic and i’m not particularly like anti other ships with these units nor do i feel mega uncomfortable seeing other non-ash/edue ships (this makes more sense in context with my a/3 ship struggle posts lmao. but also yeah ngl sometimes i see other a/she ships and i’m like eh i’ve read the supports but i don’t see this ship actually happening. although caspa/she on the other hand ... that’s cute) but i’m like i do actually need to sit with these units individually if i want to better get their personalities bc i’m starting to feel kinda bad that maybe my representations of them aren’t wholly accurate to their general personalities. like actually mentally bad, not just like ‘oh... well too bad whatever’ bc i just be getting caught up in making sure fictional characters fit canon even though sometimes fancontent just be ooc and is accepted regardless. tl;dr of that second point, i feel like my brain is too into shipping mode rn re: these two units and i need to split them in order to better understand them. but also that’s a lot of effort bc tbh i don’t particularly care too much abt 3h as a whole ngl or at least these 2 units are prob not really the units i would stan

idk it’s really stemming from me being like ‘oh ho i know the 3h story’ but then being like lol no i don’t when my sibling is discussing the current happenings during her 3h playthrough. i mean she’s playing the v/erdant wi/nd route which tbh of course i know less abt bc in-game ash/edue really focuses more on the BL and BE houses in terms of interactions/drama but i’m just like :( bc i take fictional stuff too seriously for my mental health. i’m not like having BAD mental health abt it but i can sense when shit might be starting to hit the fan so i’m like :(. also i’m starting to side-eye some ash/edue fancontent bc now i’m starting to think a little more critically abt the pairing and tbh their “paired” ending reads weird to me as a poc living in the US (assumption of ded/ue is a poc and as/he is a white guy) ... like it’s not BAD per se, like as/he isn’t really culturally appropriating but also like ... fellow poc in the US, you know how it feels sometimes when some random white person is like ‘i’m opening this ethnic cuisine restaurant bc i respect the culture so much’. i know that’s not necessarily what’s happening in the “paired” ending and as/he isn’t being one of those uppity white ppl who try to “better” the ethnic cuisine but man makes you think. i’ve only read TWO fanfics that explicitly was like ‘man it’s fucked up that a white person has to be this ethnicity’s ambassador huh?’ which makes me a lil sad in retrospect (also the 2nd fic i’m thinking of isn’t even in-game canon, it’s a modern au that talks abt cultural appropriation differently so like is it even the same). anyway i actually haven’t read the paired ending text in a while so maybe i’m remembering it wrong but i’ve personally changed it up a little in my headcanon so that the inn is just a general inn that as/he just so happens to serve some du/scar dishes at to normalize their inclusion into f/odlan culture. anyway this convo about 3h’s treatment of poc is a whole other story and discussion lol, my sibling and i were discussing it last night so that’s why i’m bringing it up

no joke, I’ve had this idea for a canon divergence AU Skies of Arcadia fanfic that revolves around Enrique stuck in my mind for like 5+ years, and I’ve never written down a thing. not saying what exactly the divergence is in case I ever actually get off my ass and write it though ha

I’d LOVE to actually do it someday, but a) I’ve had writer’s block ever since I graduated and that’s been years at this point and b) I... don’t know how to handle the lead-up? Like, a lot of it would just be the same story as in the game (mostly) up until when Enrique joins the party, so I’m like... do I skip it and assume the reader just knows the material, do I summarize, do I rewrite it myself?

The “rewrite” option is somewhat appealing since then I could make little changes for foreshadowing and maybe even change things up somewhat, like have Enrique join sooner. what absolutely needs to happen is me expanding on Enrique and Vyse interacting together, so introducing the former sooner may be useful for that purpose... but Y I K E S at having to do the whole story before then just to get to the good stuff. it’s why I don’t think I could really go with the “rewrite” option, though I don’t really know how other people handle canon divergence since I don’t usually read fics that do that

and even though I’ve played the game probably 10+ times, I’d still feel like I’d need to do ANOTHER playthrough just to make sure I’m fresh on the characterization and plot bc I just have a HUGE fear of mischaracterizing anyone, especially for my favorite game of all-time

oh, and I don’t really have an ending planned. I... never really do for anything lmao, I’m all about the journey rather than the destination when I have plot ideas. that may also be a problem, though a lesser one since I think I could figure something out
