I'm rewatching Kamigami no Asobi again (my emotional support reverse harem), and... I just LOVE how the foreshadowing of Balder's possessive nature starts as early as episode two.

It’s so subtle too.

Episode 2 - Balder asking Yui how long she and Apollon have known each other and becoming visibly pleased when he learns the two of them just met the day before.

“Then... you met me first.”

Episode 3 - Balder frowning when he believes that Yui is adopting one of Apollon’s traits and is once again delighted this isn’t the case.

“Yui-san, you just spoke like he does.”

“Huh?”

*frowns* “You repeated the same word...”

Episode 6 - The episode right before his possessive nature is revealed. When he witnesses Yui feeding Tsukito a dumpling, he has an... interesting response.

“Let’s see how many dumplings Totsuka-san can fit into his mouth.”

“No, Bal-Bal... Tsuki-Tsuki will suffocate!”

And then towards the end of the episode, when he’s under the assumption that the two became a couple.

“I’d like to have a chat with you later, Totsuka-san...”

Kamigami no Asobi only has twelve episodes, and with six routes to adapt in that timeframe, that doesn’t leave much room for nearly the amount of buildup that was present in the game.

But I just adore how the anime’s writers were still able to make the twist work in a way that it doesn’t come off as being out of nowhere.

So another character added to the list of annoying anime characters is none other than Balder Hringhorni from Kamigami no Asobi.

This anime is an otome and reverse-harem genre, which is pretty obvious from the cover, and it follows this Japanese girl, Kusunagi Yui, who was brought over from earth to this impromptu created school for the gods.

Yui’s mission was to help the selected gods from various countries to overcome their insecurities and learn more about humanity within a limited time period.

Balder, who is this gorgeous sun-kissed golden hair man, was pretty creepy. I would not say annoying, but just creepy. Be warned that there will be spoilers!

So, basically, Balder was blessed by his mother’s prayers to not let anything harm him. Because of this, people around him would worship him fervently and practically do everything for him. Just think of Komi from Komi Can’t Communicate.

However, the only person not affected, aside from his friends Loki and Thor, was Yui. Due to this, Balder wanted to spend more time with Yui and it escalated to him wanting her all to himself. It was so creepy to the point where he would decide everything for Yui on the whim just so she could be with him all the time.

Talk about possessiveness! I don’t get why people are still simping for Balder and Yui to be together especially after what happened, I mean like, hello? If this were real life, you all won’t even be simping for them to be together.
