unhinged yes stories: topographic oceans edition
ok so a friend asked for more unhinged band lore and i am obliging with yes because i know them best (except for pmodel but anyway)
-most of the concept of topographic was written by jon and steve while they were touring. late at night. by candlelight. in their hotel rooms together. these sessions are remembered (by howe i think howe said this) as leaving them "exhilarated for days". this definitely doesnt sound hilariously gay
-jon wanted to record topographic in the middle of the woods. rick is jon's #1 enabler so he backed up jon in this venture but everyone else wanted to stay in london. so they did
-so someone decided to decorate the recording studio like a barnyard to cheer him up. black sabbath stole one of their cardboard cows.
-supposedly rick pranked steve somehow and locked him in a closet while they were recording. predictably steve was incredibly unhappy about this.
-speaking of rick he got LICE IN HIS KEYBOARDS because they were all propped up on haybales. this meant he had to send them away to be serviced and delayed recording.
-the master tapes almost got run over by a bus because eddy offord (the band's sound engineer) put them on top of his car and then forgot about them and drove away

Coolest deal ever. The beloved 1972 landmark, Lucy's Amusement Park in Minot, North Dakota is for sale. It has 7bds, 5ba, and of course, an amusement park. You could make it a business, or just keep it for yourself. Check this out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, come on. Look at this slide alone! And, there's a snack bar next to it.
Tumblr media
Okay, let's look at the house before we tour the rest of the outside b/c it's dated, messy, and needs work. The living room has an old floral carpet, but it has a brick fireplace and feature wall. They have it set up as a media room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know what they're doing in here, but I'm guessing that it's supposed to be a dining room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen isn't bad, it's modern and big, plus it opens to a deck. It just needs a little decor.
Tumblr media
Hall to the bedrooms. There's that carpet again.
Tumblr media
This is fun. Bubbles in the bathroom/laundry room.
Tumblr media
Not lovin' the dryer in this bedroom, though.
Tumblr media
I have no idea which is the primary bedroom, but this one has some built-in shelving.
Tumblr media
Child's barnyard themed room. I would imagine that they'd take this with them.
Tumblr media
Cluttered home office with steps up to a sleep loft, maybe?
Tumblr media
On the way downstairs, there's a sleep loft and hot tub.
Tumblr media
In the basement is an apt. There's a big stone fireplace wall.
Tumblr media
Large open dining area and nice kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2 big rooms.
Tumblr media
And, a bath.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus a basketball court/game area.
Tumblr media
And a toilet with lockers.
Tumblr media
Now, back outside, there's what looks like a homemade manually operated Ferris wheel for two.
Tumblr media
Airplane ride.
Tumblr media
A big miniature golf course.
Tumblr media
Some picnic tables.
Tumblr media
Large workshop.
Tumblr media
2 car garage under the house.
Tumblr media
There's plenty more land- 2.85 acres.

are you a buy every dlc kinda planet zoo guy or a buy only the dlc that looks interesting guy (im the former, tis my shameless indulgence)
haha I actually have them all except the deluxe? pack that comes with Komodo dragons & pgymy hippos which I kinda regret cause regular hippos are such a pain to build for
steam has sales pretty often so I usually wait until they come on sale to snag em. I think the quality of the DLC animals + the items are definitely worth it, especially since its a game I still enjoy playing regularly after 3 years. The Barnyard pack was fun but I feel a little underwhelmed that there's not more themed building / decor farm pieces included :/

If you know me outside of Tumblr, don't tell my mom
I said goodbye to my old car last night. Vivid green 2012 Hyundai Accent hatchback. That thing had stellar fuckin gas mileage (for a non-hybrid anyway, I could squeeze like 40mpg out of it if I tried), hauled around way too much shit, played FAFO with black ice, was stolen in Amarillo, TX and recovered south of Oklahoma City, OK - and for context, I live in Indianapolis - back in 2018, and transported many friends and even some coworkers. It also has had kernels of dry field corn in the floorboard for the past two years. Oh, and I broke the frickin passenger side mirror by backing out of the garage too close.
Her name was Arachnaverde because she was green and I kept an anatomically incorrect spider skeleton (halloween decoration) on the dashboard. Spood's job was to let me know when I was taking a turn too fast. He would skitter away if I did.
Prior to Arachnaverde, I had a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that I called Madame Blueberry. She was a lovely teal color, had two doors, and I once forgot an entire watermelon in the back floorboard in college and it rotted and stank so badly. -4/10 do not recommend. Also her trunk had loose soybeans from when I took a few dried soybean plants for some reason or another. ADHD be like that sometimes.
Prior to Madame Blueberry, I had an unnamed charcoal gray 89 Mercury Grand Marquis. This car had one interesting anecdote, and 3 notable events.
In the long long ago when I was still in junior college (2 year college for people who live in states that don't fuck with junior colleges), I left it overnight in the college parking lot for some reason I no longer recall. When I retrieved it in the morning, someone had used car window paint to write "HOOPTY" on the back windshield. To be fair, it was.
That car was how I learned not to leave a can of silly string in a hot car. Did you know if a can of silly string gets hot enough it will straight up explode? I didn't until I found a really messy plastic bag and blue spatters all over the roof of my car.
I used to park under a specific tree in front of the house, because I lived with my parents on a farm, and the garage was for my mom's vehicle, no one else's. Dad's main ride parked in the patch of ground between the barnyard fence and the garage (dad's parking spot, mostly), and the farm truck parked in the barnyard. Anyway, point is, I parked under a tree which worked quite well for many years except at the very end a large fragment of dead tree pierced my car *right* in front of the hood so I had a rough rectangle of Missing Car for the tail end of my ownership.
Anyway, I've known for months that I needed to get a new car. Needed new front struts, a replacement sensor in the steering column, new back brakes, new front tires.... I tried back in May but for some reason the car I found just didn't vibe with me (Mitsubishi Mirage). It was kinda noisy, very basic. Also very cheap.
Last week, the stars aligned and I found a hopeful prospect with low mileage, decent mpg, and within my budget.
So now I have a new-to-me brick of tofu (white Kia Soul 2020).
I have said my farewells to the green beast, and look forward to what kind of adventures I'll get into with the as-of-yet-unnamed toaster.
So far the best name I've come up with is Tofungus because I am awful. I definitely want to give it a black horizontal stripe and add the "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" decal to the side because i'm a fuckin weeb and also did you know there's a sequel to Initial D this season? I'm enjoying it.

I feel like this is Thick thighs save lives. One of the boys decorated the horse stall to replicate city lights so she feels at home and has music playing and they connect a little more.
Ari, Steve & Bucky wished it was easier to keep you distracted and away from the ranch. Having Hal take you to town and spoil you for the day wasn’t as easy as they had anticipated, not since you’d confessed to feeling torn between the buzz of the city and the lights that captivated you, and the peaceful quiet lull of a country night.
They were trying to sway you to the quietude of the ranch and the homeliness of the country. They were trying to sway you to stay with them in the peaceful atmosphere, selfishly of course, and had made a ploy to win you over with a barnyard dance. It was an effort they knew they wouldn’t be wasted, whether you went back to the city or stayed in their small ranching town they would give you the world.
“They’re on the way.” Bucky stepped into the barn, watching the last Edison light being hooked before he stepped in front of Steve to straighten his hat. “Hal said little miss city girl is antsy.”
“She’s being torn in two different directions. Does she stay in the city and go long distance or stay here?” Ari surmised, sympathizing with you and your inner turmoil. “We all know what we want-“
“I want her to be happy, Ari. Whether that’s here-” Steve was silenced by a knock on the barn wall, the sound setting him in his place by the side before the quickened tug sent the door opening.
“Hal I just want-“
“-to dance?” Hal’s hand slid down, resting upon your lower back. “In a barn?”
You turned your head, eyes growing twice in size as you looked around the magnificent barn. It was transformed into a wonderland, a breathtaking world of romance with synthesized starlit roof. It was nothing like you had ever seen before and the first few steps you’d taken had felt like you were walking on air.
You moved forward and stopped, a bright smile on your face as you studied the world around you. You didn’t understand why Hal was so insistent on taking you off the property and keeping you in town, but now you knew.
“You did this for me?” Your question was soft as you reached for Ari, hand resting upon his chest. “You all did this for me?”
A song began to play in the background and a pair of hands rest on your hips. Your eyes fluttered closed as you and your cowboy began to sway, soon joined by another who had held your hands and trapped you between their bodies.
You were transported, taken away from the dusty barn floor to the clutch of stars that were going to have a hold on you. You were in a place so close to heaven it made you feel otherworldly.
“Whatever you decide,” a hand clutched your chin and tilted your gaze to his own, “we’re here for you. Wherever you go, we go.”
Remember when…
“How can I possibly leave you?” You leaned in, your lips brushing against his. “I can’t…not a single city in this whole world could be better than this barn.”
“You’ll stay?” Steve whispered in your ear, switching off with another. “Here? With us?”
“Every day for the rest of my life…” you leaned, resting your forehead against his chest.
“Sounds like marriage vows, city girl. Are you wanting to marry us, sweet omega?” Hal teased, drawing a hand down your back.
“If you’ll have me.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main park (?) in town was renovated by @webbymom - one of the Sims Daily site owners. She was also one of the creators over at the old Sims Three Musketeers site. Anyway, I did make some changes because - like I said earlier - no extra party CC was used in any of the original lots. First thing I did was replace the fountain she had with that carousel because my sims like using it. Then, in the big open area in the front of the lot, I placed 2 of those invisible skating objects Sandy made over on Around the Sims 3. They allow sims to skate on parking lots - or in this case, a park - without using those rinks EA designed. I also added the flags, MsPoodle's bike rental object, benches, more lampposts, and different trees. Plus, I edited the parking lots and used those parking meters that are in-game. In that little building she made, I redid the bathrooms, then made the other side into a very small ice cream shop. And I gave them some tables outside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Across the street is this little B&B made by @purzelsims, called the Golden Duck. It's zoned as a resort, and she had placed the resort tower in a basement. I have the rug, so I got rid of most of the basement and used what was left for a small laundry room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are actually 2 floors with rooms that sims can rent, along with the ground floor with dining and check-in. But, since all of the rooms are similar, I only took pics of the one floor. She originally had them all decorated the same, using the same patterns on all the furniture. But I like variety, so I mixed it up a bit. I may go back in and reduce the number of bathrooms since currently every room has one. And in all of the B&Bs that I've stayed in, that just doesn't happen. And I'll probably change out that long, green rug in the hallway with some of B5Studio rugs.
On the outside, I added signage that Sandy created for hostels and there's even a sign with ducks. I also added that electrical box, the drainpipes and an air conditioner.
Tumblr media
Where EA had plunked down that criminal hideout from the basegame, I decided to use the one that I think came from Barnyard Bay. So, I made this little lot, and it is now called the Smuggler's Cove and is listed on the National Registry for historical sites. Hence the concrete plague. Anyway, I used a lot of plants from Supernatural here, so honest sims can go mushroom hunting here if they want some.
Tumblr media
This is the new town gym created by cutsocks that I found over on Mod the Sims. I didn't change the interior much at all, but I did add parking out front and placed that bus stop shelter. Inside, about the only thing I did, was delete some bathrooms and replaced them with that sauna that came with Sunlit Tides,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is just that EA lot that came with that one stuff pack. In the renovation of this town, Purzel did make an open school, but since I'm a lazy player, I decided to use this one instead. The only changes I did do, was to give the kids more playground stuff and that soccer set that Sandy made for kids.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally, this is a lovely little lot created by @lilidebergerac. It's a small park where sims can stay overnight in treehouses. About the only thing I did on this lot was add that archery object that Sandy created. Anyway, it's out in that area where all the weirdos live - hence the dirt roads. (Thank you, Lili! My sims love this lot!)
And then my game said, "Enough already!" and that was the end of game play for today. But right before it did, I was checking out all the lot sizes for the houses. And OMG!!! EA went crazy with over-sized lots in this world. Most of them - even the ones in town - are like 30x40. And they get bigger the farer out you go. Stupid. And I'm thinking lazy. But such is EA.

Barnyard Backgrounds - Pt. 1
I'm a little late due to real-life but it's Horse GirlTM time! This is a set of CAS backgrounds I plan to make that will probably encompass all of the farming/outdoor DLC. These first two are inspired by Horse Ranch!
A very special thanks to @objuct for all the amazing CC in these! Because EA failed in including general tack decor. In a horse pack. Which has prompted this:

Download and place in Mods folder. Only use one CAS background at a time!

What about baby shower themes that don’t fit the season? I’ve always liked ones that weren’t common myself, like you don’t see many barnyard or farm themed ones where I live, or beach ones etc. but I love ones that align with a parent or both parents’ job or interests; firefighter theme, doctor theme, artist theme etc.
I limited my self initially to seasonal, only so I didn't go completely off the rails 😂 But OMG I'm now obsessed with idea of a barnyard baby shower. Someone please throw one and invite me!!
Okay, here are some more ideas:
Books/library
You could limit this theme to a specific author (i.e. Dr Seuss), genre (i.e. classic fairy tales), or just say ALL books
Invitations / favors could look like library cards!
Decorate with actual books (which looks so so cute) or elements from the parents' favorite books
Similarly, serve food from the those books (cookies from When You Give a Mouse a Cookie, charcuterie board for the Hungry Caterpillar, etc.)
Have each guest bring their favorite book from when they were a kid and have the mama try to match the book with the guest
Beach/ocean/under the sea
If you want to lean more "beach," colors lean more towards tan, light blue, and seafoam green
For a more "ocean/under the sea" direction, blue is the main color with bright color accents
Decorate with starfish, seashells, cute lil underwater creatures
Do some fun, beachy mocktails
Oooh, you could do little mini messages in bottles! Have guests write little notes/parenting advice and have them put them in tiny little bottles (or put them all in one) so parents can read them after baby is born
Travel
Invitations are plane tickets!
Decorations could be themed after all the places the parents have traveled to
Also could decorate with globes, suitcases, maps, etc.
Similarly, all the foods could come from different regions of the world
Sidenote, my cousin actually did do a travel-themed nursery, which threw me for a loop when figuring out what to make as a gift. I settled on this quilt:

THE HEN WHO DREAMED SHE COULD FLY by Sun-Mi Hwang ; translated by Chi-Young Kim ; illustrated by Nomoco
RELEASE DATE: Nov. 26, 2013
Published to great success in Korea, Hwang’s short novel is an adroit allegory about life.
Sprout’s a caged laying hen on a small farm. Sprout yearns for freedom, for a chance to mother one of the eggs taken from her. She has given herself the name Sprout because she "wanted to do something with her life, just like the sprouts on the acacia tree," something she only sees in her rare glimpses of the world outside flourishing in the barnyard. In her discontent, Sprout grows morose, frail, only to find herself culled from the flock and tossed into the "Hole of Death." Sprout, near suffocation, hears a warning from Straggler, a stray mallard duck tagging along with the farm’s other ducks. She’s in danger of being scavenged by a weasel. That night, Sprout slips into the barn with the other farm animals, but she’s shunned. The lonely Sprout decides to follow Straggler and one of the other ducks out beyond the farm. The other duck is killed, but Sprout finds her egg. With brave Straggler standing watch for the deadly weasel, Sprout broods the egg, thinking, "My dreams are coming true." But after the egg hatches, she begins to comprehend that Baby, as she calls him, will grow to become Greentop, a duckling with his own destiny. Hwang has penned an anthropomorphic allegory with allusions to prejudice, to sacrifice and to the recognition of destiny, a fable in the vein of classics like Charlotte’s Web and Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Hwang’s story of Sprout also speaks of family and love, of courage and loss, and of the value of the individual in the face of mindless conformity. Translator Kim does stellar work in rendering the tale into colloquial English, and the narrative is decorated with minimalist pen-and-ink drawings from the Japanese artist Nomoco.
A subtle morality tale that will appeal to readers of all ages.
