oh god. i have so much to say about this entire issue my mind is just racing. IM WRITHING AROUND ON THE FLOOR SOMEONE HELP

Having a Homer Simpson "d'oh!" moment because I missed/forgot some pivotal information on the Zur situation that happened a few issues ago.

Zur created Failsafe and erased the memory of how to stop him. He also created a batcave under Bruce's batcave. (Batman #127 / Batman #136)

Bruce literally mentioned that Zur "poisoned the well" and put doubt in Bruce's head and heart. Bruce questioned, "What else has he done?" (Batman #136)

Bruce locked Zur away in his mind, and they were at odds with each other because Bruce didn't want Zur taking over, and Zur wanted out because he perceived Bruce's insecurities and doubts as his mind being "under attack." He wanted out to fulfill his purpose. (Batman #136)

In a flashback, Zur took over Bruce's body without Bruce even knowing. One minute, Bruce was trying to solve a case, and in the next, Zur was doing his own thing. When he gave up control to Bruce again, Bruce simply carried on with his previous thought as if he hadn't been personality swapped at all. (Batman #136)

Zur tried to tell Bruce what to do. Bruce snapped and yelled at him, reminding Zur that he (Zur) was in a cage. Bruce reassured himself, "He's in a cage. I'm in control." (Batman #137)

Now there was a moment in Batman #136 where Bruce started to panic because he couldn't see the future or whatever, so he didn't know how he could save everyone he loved, and he wondered how far he could go before it all burned away.

And then in Batman #137/Catwoman #57, Bruce realized that he no longer owned the manor, and he kinda started spiraling and talking about how even if he lost the manor/his wealth, he wouldn't lose his soldiers.

"They can't be bought. But they can be saved."

Notice the fact that Bruce used the term "soldiers." Because guess what? In Batman #127, Zur referred to Tim and the other members of the family as soldiers, and Bruce angrily corrected him.

"And Tim isn't my soldier! HE'S MY SON!"

SOOO. Do you see where I'm kinda going with all this? Bruce not knowing when Zur takes over? Zur being able to erase memories? Zur using "soldier" in his own dialogue color, and Bruce using the term "soldier" in his own dialogue color? Bruce saying that Zur "poisoned the well."

AND NOW, in today's issue, Zur forcibly took over to try and kill Joker again. And you know what was said?

Bruce: No! I'm in control! I'm--

Zur: You're not in control, we (Zur) are.

BRUCE CANNOT CONTROL ZUR. HE CANNOT. He thinks he can, and he thought he had it under control, but Bruce doesn't have shit under control!

Joker regarding Zur as the real one when back in #129 he immediately called out that Zur wasn't his Batman will never sit well with me.

Granted, he later acknowledged in #130 that there was this murderous alter ego inside Bruce. But to have him truly believe that Zur is the real deal is rather upsetting.

Unless, of course, Zdarsky has Joker planning something in mind while luring Zur out.

I will be sorely disappointed otherwise as I refuse to believe Joker will ever favor a Batman who's so readily willing to take lives. If anything, he has a history of holding a strong aversion toward them.

But for now, I'll let Zdarsky cook.

It's been some time since I truly read the Failsafe arc, but if I remember correctly Bruce's back up personality Zur en Arrh created Failsafe so if Bruce ever started killing criminals the robot would activate and stop Bruce.

But according to spoilers for Batman #139 Zur now really wants Bruce to kill Joker.

And IF Bruce/Zur actually kills him wouldn't that simply cause Failsafe to reactivate and go after Bruce again? Since Bruce failed to destroy him, he only managed to add some compassion to Failsafe's programming.

Basically I'm wondering what Zur's plan is. Zur creating Failsafe implies Zur doesn't want Bruce to kill, but in Batman #139 he makes it very clear he wants Bruce to kill. So did he do all of this so Bruce would finally kill the Joker and then be stopped from killing anyone else by Failsafe?

My #1 post of 2022

So long King❤️

I've been introduced to mcyt and dsmp by my best friend and thanks to her I could discover Techno. For the past 2 years he had impacted my life a lot, through inspiring me to improve my skills on character design and art overall, to become more outgoing and full of passion for things I do. Because of covid and me finishing high school and going to university I had been struggling a lot with my mental health, but every time I saw a new upload or upcoming stream my day would instantly brighten up. He brought so much joy and love to the community and I'll forever be thankful for that.

This whole day had been a mess since I woke up and saw the news, it still feels unreal and when I think I'm alright, the feeling comes back again. Never thought that a person I didn't know, almost at all, would make such an impact on me.

I'm still going to make art of his character, I think that's something he'd want, to continue his legacy and for his character to still bring people joy.

I don't normally write much stuff here, only post art and reblog stuff, but I had to vent a little. I just wanted to thank Techno for everything and send love to anyone who is struggling about this too or is in a bad place overall. I hope you'll get better and everything will be ok❤️

Reactions As I Read: ● Hugo Strange under the influence of Scarecrow's fear gas. I don't think I've yet seen him so vulnerable… ● Scarecrow asks the panic Strange what his greatest fear is; Strange doesn't give a straight answer--merely continues running through the house… ● …and falls down into a hole, where he is skewered on a weathervane that Scarecrow has placed there o_o ● 3 nights later, at Selina's place with her kitties ● (I'm not a huge fan of her costume having a tail. I prefer her whip serving as a tail-like addition) ● she goes to a warehouse where she expects to find jade cats, but instead she finds a skull in the crate ● fear toxin goes off in her face ● (really unforunate how the artist draws her figure) ● (she looks amazing here, though!)

● she's just woken up to Scarecrow taking her picture ● Scarecrow demands a service, else he'll release her photos to the police and the press ● Selina has little choice but to agree ● 2 nights later, Gordon is surprised to see the Bat Signal shining ● he and Batman arrive at about the same time. Gordon informs him that he was not the one who activated the signal. ● Catwoman reveals herself then ● (seriously, her suit would have to have huge, separately sewn pockets for her knockers to fit into because that is not how boobs look in clothing) ● she tries to convince Batman and Gordon to just let her operate, but when that doesn't work, she leaps off the rooftop with Batman close behind ● Batman dives face-first into a pile of garbage when she moves out of the way (heheh)

● HAHA, ok, that's straight out of Looney Tunes, with the trashcan lid ● (the art in this issues is really good, but the painted-on clothes with everyone is quite distracting) ● heheh, Batman's getting pissed and I'm here for it ● he goes after her, preparing to no longer hold back, when he realizes she's led him to Crime Alley ● the actual fuck? I know this artist can do better than this. Feels like a rushed panel.

● Batman suspects a trap, though only Hugo Strange knows of the alley's significance. Someone is strung up by his heels at the end of the alley ● a hand-scythe comes out… ● feck, the hanging man's throat is cut. or maybe he was fully decapitated? it's hard to tell ● Batman figures that Strange, Scarecrow, and Catwoman are all working together. ● oh, it wasn't a hand-scythe but a full scythe. not that it matters. but I try to correct my info ^^ ● (not that anyone actually reads these. if you do--hello!) ● at least Scarecrow's clothes aren't painted on… ● Batman just keeps getting kicked in the face tonight ● I wouldn't have expected Scarecrow to hold his own so well against Batman in a physical fight… ● ah, and it was a full decapitation! (see? accurate details matter) ● apparently the years Crane was in Arkham, he honed his martial art skills. good on you, Crane! your progress shows ^^ ● Catwoman comes to Batman's aid ● Scarecrow says to forget the photos--she's just been added to his bully list as he runs off ● Catwoman apologizes to Batman for leading him there, and says she had no idea Scarecrow was going to kill that guy ● …but then when Batman turns his back, she knocks him out with the handle of the broken scythe ● 👏👏👏👏

Synopsis: Terrified by Scarecrow and his fear toxin, Hugo Strange leaves his bed and runs through the house of Sebastian Cole. Strange does not recognize the hole which Scarecrow has cut into the wooden floor and, thus, he falls right onto a spike from a weathervane. Strange looks to be mortally wounded and does not move anymore. Now, Scarecrow wants to make his move against Batman whom he calls the big bully. The first step of his plan is to kidnap Catwoman which he actually achieves. Scarecrow unmasks and takes pictures of her face so that he is able to blackmail the female thief.

Two nights later, Captain Gordon goes onto the roof of GCPD Headquarters because somebody has activated the Bat-Signal. He is surprised to find Catwoman responsible, but as intended by her Batman arrives as well. She talks about reaching an agreement and bribing them which of course is no option for either Gordon or Batman. Quickly Catwoman tries to escape and as planned she is being followed by Batman. Interestingly, the hunt leads them into the alley where Thomas and Martha Wayne were shot. A man unknown to Batman hangs in the alley headfirst and then gets beheaded by Scarecrow using a scythe. Then Crane attacks Batman and he actually is able to best him. But then Catwoman interferes in Batman's favor, so Scarecrow flees screaming about how he will use the photos he took from Catwoman. She apologizes to Batman for luring him into this trap, but when he turns his back she strikes him down …

Okay, so, admittedly I hadn't watched Goncharov until, like, yesterday. It's one of those films you hear about but it just never sounded like my thing, you know?

Anyway, I watched it because I found the whole "loss of identity" thing Tumblr has been talking about really interesting, especially with Sofia and Katya, but then when I saw it it really struck me how I hadn't seen a lot of this talk about Goncharov and he's literally Goncharov! The reason for the season, baby!

I think part of the reason we're maybe all eating this up right now is because it's it just loss of identity, it's active rejection of it. Not of identity as such but of a specific identity he feels locked into.

The whole chapter where he takes Katya home to the village and you get this sense that people there are both afraid of him but also kind of still treat him like the boy he was when he left? His mother is the only character I think we ever see call him "Luca"! You wouldn't even know the guy had a first name! (Sidenote, love that that was Scorsese's mom.) (Sidenote to the sidenote: have we considered Goncharov as fictionalised autobiography cause I have thoughts.)

Anyway, Goncharov in Posianna is Luca. He's very big fish in a small pond, or at least he fears that's all he's ever going to be if he stays - so he leaves for Naples back when, meets Katya (and Andrey!) etc etc - goes to Moscow - and then returns. But at every stage he keeps having to work harder and harder to convince people he's this tough guy, right? He keeps having to prove himself and not just to other people, but, I think, crucially, to himself! It's like a fake it till you make it in mirrorverse because there's this sense of this not being where he "should" end up (and then we also already know that the stuff with Andrey is still coming up and how that's gonna go). It feels like he keeps trying to make the mythos of himself bigger and bigger because he's measuring himself against some sort of weird ideal that keeps outgrowing him. And, like, who can't relate, eh, generation of "you can be anything!".

On that note - I find it really interesting that Katya is kind of his foil here. She starts in Moscow but she keeps yearning for smaller places, but then once she gets there, she hates it. She could never be happy in Posianna. She actually needs the bigger ponds. (And Sofia.)

Anyway. It's not a fully formed analysis or anything, just something that kept nagging at me while I watched it. And maybe I'm just projecting but I find the deliberate construction of the self vs. the "authentic" finding of the self an interesting thought.

Just a heads up: if you read Heartstopper fic, someone has been posting deliberately horrific stuff (so far I've only seen two stories) clearly meant to upset people to the AO3 tag. I'm not sure reporting them will go anywhere since it's all technically labelled correctly from what I can tell without actually reading it? But they also are arguably being homophobic in graphically violent fictional ways so. Maybe??? Hopefully they'll get bored of being a miserable person and simply leave.

Just, if you want to avoid seeing it, exclude the warnings (particularly rape, graphic violence, and death) from your search and proceed as normal.

Excerpt from quit telling everyone i'm (permanently) dead! (wip)

The black zirconium statue was larger than life. It towered above them on two separate, stepped obsidian pedestals, each about five-feet high. As Mateo moved closer, he could see something glittering in the bases. Danny mumbled something about ectoplasmic ice mixed into it, stronger than diamonds, but Mateo thought they looked like stars. He figured that was the intention. It was gorgeous.

He tilted his head back to take in the actual sculpture. That Danny was twice as large as the one standing next to Mateo. He felt his heart lurch a little at how serious Danny looked, the tight furrow over his brow, the determined set to his jaw. It all made him look so much older than even now, even though Mateo knew he was only sixteen when the statue was made.

The statue’s zirconium white accents were blinding in the late afternoon sunlight, and Mateo found himself shading his eyes as he looked up even higher. The hair on the statue was shorter than Mateo had seen Danny wear his, probably closer to the length it had been when he was in high school. It was swept back heroically, as if moved by an unseen wind, and the sun glinted off its sharp edges. It made the whole statue look as if it were glowing.

Crystalized ectoplasm made Phantom’s eerie green eyes, and they glowed too, though Mateo figured they probably glowed under their own power rather than a trick of the light. The statue’s eyes were trained on the thin, steel-wire Earth he cupped protectively close to his chest; it was a promise as well as a remembrance. The world remembered what Phantom did for them, and he promised them he would do it all over again if necessary.

Au where one night pre-series, when Steven is trying to stay awake, he just starts live streaming a talk about egypt. He opens with an introduction and explaining that he has a disorder and needs to stay awake. The stream goes for at least four hours. At one point there's a long aside where he's talking to gus instead of any viewers.

What my thought process was before watching The Sea Beast:

Oooh. A kid befriending sea animals.

Adult ends up accidentally adopting the kid

What I did not expect the messages to be:

Showcasing how empires thrive through the blood and sacrifice of the working people while the rich stay safe and sound, hoarding the power and wealth they did not earn.

It is easy for the ones in power to demonise a supposed enemy. Always question what they tell you.

History should always be critically examined and can never be fully trusted.

Holding grudges is never healthy. You cannot let it consume you.

it's crazy to think about how long comic book characters have been around for

Dick Grayson was created in 1940

There's probably been tons of kids, adults, and older people who were just obsessed with him as I am now

It's just crazy to know that I probably share the same favorite character with people who lived such different lives than me

A soldier in WW2, one of the first astronauts to go to the moon, a kid enjoying color tv for the first time - it's possible any of them could have loved the same character I, so many years later, do now

And that's just so heartwarming and cool and wack all at the same time
