#Zur-En-Arrh
Text
Wanted to discuss my version of Zur-En-Arrh
He's a backup protocol like in canon but he's not a part of Bruce's psyche that has been locked away
He's literally a backup Batman made by Bruce he's a robot that is essentially made to be Batman without Bruce Wayne
He's a cold unfeeling machine that puts the Batman crusade above all else and he doesn't hold Bruce's morals because he isn't Bruce Wayne he's Batman without Bruce Wayne
Pretty much Bruce made Zur-En-Arrh as a backup protocol who can successfully carry out the Batman mission if Bruce dies then The Zur-En-Arrh protocol will activate and Zur-En-Arrh will awake and take up the Batman mission
Another way The Zur-En-Arrh protocol will activate is if Bruce succumbs to Joker Toxin and becomes like The Batman Who Laughs Zur-En-Arrh will awake and make his primary objective to kill Bruce

Having a Homer Simpson "d'oh!" moment because I missed/forgot some pivotal information on the Zur situation that happened a few issues ago.
Zur created Failsafe and erased the memory of how to stop him. He also created a batcave under Bruce's batcave. (Batman #127 / Batman #136)
Bruce literally mentioned that Zur "poisoned the well" and put doubt in Bruce's head and heart. Bruce questioned, "What else has he done?" (Batman #136)
Bruce locked Zur away in his mind, and they were at odds with each other because Bruce didn't want Zur taking over, and Zur wanted out because he perceived Bruce's insecurities and doubts as his mind being "under attack." He wanted out to fulfill his purpose. (Batman #136)
In a flashback, Zur took over Bruce's body without Bruce even knowing. One minute, Bruce was trying to solve a case, and in the next, Zur was doing his own thing. When he gave up control to Bruce again, Bruce simply carried on with his previous thought as if he hadn't been personality swapped at all. (Batman #136)
Zur tried to tell Bruce what to do. Bruce snapped and yelled at him, reminding Zur that he (Zur) was in a cage. Bruce reassured himself, "He's in a cage. I'm in control." (Batman #137)
Now there was a moment in Batman #136 where Bruce started to panic because he couldn't see the future or whatever, so he didn't know how he could save everyone he loved, and he wondered how far he could go before it all burned away.
And then in Batman #137/Catwoman #57, Bruce realized that he no longer owned the manor, and he kinda started spiraling and talking about how even if he lost the manor/his wealth, he wouldn't lose his soldiers.
"They can't be bought. But they can be saved."
Notice the fact that Bruce used the term "soldiers." Because guess what? In Batman #127, Zur referred to Tim and the other members of the family as soldiers, and Bruce angrily corrected him.
"And Tim isn't my soldier! HE'S MY SON!"
SOOO. Do you see where I'm kinda going with all this? Bruce not knowing when Zur takes over? Zur being able to erase memories? Zur using "soldier" in his own dialogue color, and Bruce using the term "soldier" in his own dialogue color? Bruce saying that Zur "poisoned the well."
AND NOW, in today's issue, Zur forcibly took over to try and kill Joker again. And you know what was said?
Bruce: No! I'm in control! I'm--
Zur: You're not in control, we (Zur) are.
BRUCE CANNOT CONTROL ZUR. HE CANNOT. He thinks he can, and he thought he had it under control, but Bruce doesn't have shit under control!

“God it’s like a safety vest threw up on Lilit!”
Artwork of Ranma and "Lilit of Zur-Ran-Marrh" done by @beedokart, for our gift fic for @urukuduk: Zur-Ran-Marrh
We were quite happy to write a chapter in our friend's ongoing fic series, following Ranma Saotome finding out "he's" the illegitimate child of Bruce Wayne, the Batman.
If you haven't read the fic already, give it a look! It's got Batman multiuniverse hopping, unfridged clay girls, lots of plurality, and horrifically garish costume choices.
(PHOTO ID: Ranma, a teen with black hair tied back into a pigtail, sweats and looks exhausted as she speaks to someone off screen. She is wearing a red jacket with grey undershirt. A comic style thought bubble trails from inside Ranma's head, leading to a confidently posing 'Lilit of Zur-Ran-Marrh'. She is wearing a garish outfit of mostly purples, yellow, and oranges. She has a superhero outfit on and a white, demonic, horned mask covering the upper half of her face. She has long purple, curly hair. END PHOTO ID)

I just think Zur-En-Arrh is enough of a freak that he would choose to wear panties.

I do find how Batman canon is contradicting itself between currently running books to be pretty interesting...
Like currently in Batman, Bruce is having to deal with Zur-En-Arrh which is... A Whole Thing. But having a "backup personality" ...? Currently in Gotham Nocturne, we KNOW that Bruce having an alter would actually be MASSIVELY helpful for him right now! Harvey is currently able to avoid getting his brain melted specifically because of his plurality! He and Two-Face are currently getting along to defy the Azmer in Harvey's head! CERTAINLY if Zur-En-Arrh existed within the canon of Gotham Nocturne, Bruce and Zur would be able to set aside their differences to keep the both of them from getting literally hung, RIGHT!?

I'm glad it's not Zur, because there's been too many stories where Bruce made a decision and the others or the comics just let him go
He's still running away in story, but at least the story doesn't try to justify his decision with separate personality bullshit
We can talk about if the story even need to happen in the first place and the characters assassination it did (no actually we don't have to because the story is not needed) but I'm just talking about that part

reading the batman #136 backup while squinting my eyes at what failsafe said... that batman needs be taken down if he goes too far... and then failsafe looks behind him at the zur robin suit and glows red… saying that batman's gone too far……… so in conclusion: my best guess for what zdarsky's setting up is that bruce DID install another zur in one of the robins somehow (presumably tim since he's the one zdarsky's fcousing on rn) and if that's the case then consequences for it could get very interesting...
Oooooo, that would be fun. Bruce didn't seem to know about either Failsafe or Zur-En-Arrh's secret secondary stash of gear so I'd bet it's actually Zur-En-Arrh who did the installing. And he did set up the multiversal versions of ZEA that might be up to something as well, throwing a Robin into the mix would make sense.
I agree that it's almost certainly going to be Tim. In addition to being Zdarsky's focus, the suit seemed to be sized for him -- it looked too small for the way that artist draws Jason or Dick, but a little too big for Damian, and it definitely wasn't fitted for a (cis)girl. It makes thematic and logistical sense, too.
That would be a ton of fun, it'd be so interesting to see what Zdarsky interprets as "Robin when you take Tim out of the equation" the same way ZEA is meant to be for Bruce and Batman.
