How to Trade the Failed Breakdown (Bearish Trap)
In technical analysis, the concept of a failed breakdown — often called a bear trap — is one of the most powerful reversal patterns that traders can capitalize on. A failed breakdown occurs when price action breaks below a key support level, lures in short sellers, and then quickly reverses to the upside. This trap can lead to strong short-covering rallies and presents high-probability trading…

Dungeon Meshi Adventurer’s Bible Characters Part 2
Senshi, Izutsumi, and Falin
Senshi
Senshi's birthday is October 2. He's 112 years old. I don't remember if or where it was talked about, but I want to say dwarfs can live to around 250. Laios said they live about 2.5 times longer than Tall-men, which would put their life expectancy around 150. Either way, Senshi is an older fellow.
His int should be higher. Make it a 3. And shouldn't his stamina be lower? Dwarfs having lower stamina was a point brought up in the changeling arc.
All of Senshi's keywords stem from his first time in the dungeon. He lost his parents when he was 22, which would be the equivalent of 8. And according to his timeline, he and the rest of Gillan's team spent two years trapped in the dungeon before Senshi was the only survivor. He was 38 when Gillan died, equivalent to 15.
There's that note how Senshi didn't have the same interest in ancient technology and minerals that the other miners did. He likely joined them simply because he wanted to follow Gillan rather than due to any personal desires. Any maybe that helped contribute to why he survived both his initial encounter in the dungeon and all the years since. The dungeon never had to bear its fangs at him because he didn't want to disturb it.
Senshi's life is so heavily tied to the dungeon. His past, his motivations, his skills, and his desires are all linked to it. I imagine that if he could have any wish, it would be to try again. He was young and inexperienced when Gillan's team came to the dungeon. He couldn't fight or hunt, and all he could do was read the maps and figure out how to escape. But he only accomplished that after everyone was dead.
He probably wishes he could show Gillan that he became strong and dependable and he could be useful to a group of explorers who are lost in the dungeon with no way to escape and no supplies. Laios gave him the chance to prove it to himself, as well as help him overcome the various other concerns he had about his past.
Senshi's relationship chart includes the members of Gillan's miners. Interestingly, we have Senshi's opinions on them and their opinions on each other, but none of their opinions on Senshi. He might not have ever known what they think of him, or maybe it's because there's no point in getting the opinions of the dead.
Senshi's maxims are "Hold your spoon properly", "We were already part of the dungeon's circle", and "I've always wanted to have this soup one more time." I'd summarize it as "Respect and understand what you eat because we are all part of the environment we live in."
And Senshi's first death was indeed to the dungeon rabbits.
All the comics in the Adventurer's Bible could be safely labeled non-canon but I want to point out how I cannot find any reasonable moment in the story where Marcille, Chilchuck, and Senshi could have sat down to have this conversation.
To start, it would have to be after chapter 49 because that was when they first heard his backstory. But Marcille doesn't seem to have the bangs she has from that moment in the story.
Second, they're in their casual attire so they couldn't be on the sixth floor because it was too cold.
Finally, The layout of the brick wall behind Senshi is the pattern from the Tall-man built castle and town, not the Dwarf ruins.
Senshi said he'd only started cooking monsters about 20 years ago. Until then, maybe he got by using the golems to grow vegetables and trade with the orcs.
Marcille's father's love of history definitely rubbed off on her. Look at how interested she is in hearing Senshi talk about his experience when the dungeon was discovered.
Did Thistle flood the fourth floor in response to influx of adventurers? Or does Senshi mean that most of the more dangerous monsters in the fourth floor are recent additions?
Izutsumi
Of all the things the Adventurer's Bible could reveal about Izutsumi, I was not expecting it to reveal that she has only one pair of nipples.
Her birthday is April 21. Her name is "Unknown". I guess she was never given a name and Izutsumi is what she decided to call herself.
Appropriate stats. I would have assumed strength was a 3, but I guess you need to be physically strong to be effective with throwing weapons.
Izutsumi's beast soul is a great cat. I'm going to guess it's a leopard of some kind. Those live in Africa and Asia.
"Izutsumi thinks that both her patchwork appearance and the fact that she can't build good relationships are the fault of the monster's soul." Izutsumi, that second one is on you.
That thing @eldritchsteamhearted said about how the cat form is the base for Izutsumi really flips the script about several things about her. I think it makes more sense to assume her personality is the cat's processed through a human intellect. When they were in the Golden Castle village, Izutsumi became passive and acted more like a lazy house cat. The barrier in the village overwrites monster personalities to act more like domestic livestock. If Izutsumi's beast soul is the dominant one, then it would make sense the barrier caused a sudden shift in her personality because it rewrote how her cat brain is supposed to act.
Even though she doesn't have the dietary restrictions a cat normally would have, she'd still have a natural preference to eat what her original cat body wants.
The Adventurer's Bible notes Izutsumi was happy to eat mushrooms when she got turned into an orc. When the party got transformed the first time, they were all fully capable of using their new bodies without issue. Senshi could walk with a body with long limbs, Marcille could process everything she was hearing without being overwhelmed, and Izutsumi behaved like a kobold in battle. The brain is a part of the body so if their bodies were transformed, it would make sense their brains would be altered and their brains would just be wired to handle their new bodies.
Anyway, Izutsumi cat brain tells her to avoid mushrooms but the orc brain she got would tell her mushrooms are yummy, hence why she loved eating them when she was an orc.
Does Izutsumi have just the one kunai?
Yeah, she liked the coat and backpack Marcille and Chilchuck gave her. That's why they're her favorites.
Chilchuck is the only one in the party who doesn't see her as a cat. And it's probably because his dad-of-three-daughters instincts keep kicking in.
Izutsumi's maxims are "You've got pretty decent taste", "Come on, Bring it. I can take you all by myself!", and "I take the paths I like". I'll sum it up as "Have the strength to not need to rely on others so you can do and enjoy the things you want."
Death by shock is a rather bizarre death. And it was played for laughs when it happened.
I've seen the Izutsumi comic previously. There was a little hint of her preferring to snuggle with Chilchuck back in chapter 47 when Laios saw her sleeping on top of Chilchuck (And Chilchuck being really uncomfortable because of her weight).
That comment about Chilchuck having a higher body temperature is interesting. Do half-foots have naturally higher metabolisms than the other races? And does that contribute to them having shorter lifespans? Do dwarfs and elves have lower body temperatures?
There is a little bit of copy-pasting used to make this image. I drew a line showing roughly where the first repetition occurs. Also, notice that the little triangles are her ears.
A little bit of Izutsumi trying to share a bed with people might be her feeling lonely. She'd rather share a bed with Laios than sleep alone.
And Chilchuck went full protective-dad mode when he saw Laios petting her like she was a cat.
Falin
Falin's birthday is December 1. I don't know why, but I thought she was 24. She would have loved Senshi's Man-eating plant tart.
I have to just go with what the book says on these stats since most of what we know about Falin is from flashbacks. Full agreement on the stamina though.
The keywords section actually gives a lot of details about Falin that the story never managed to. Laios's people skill is more focused on understanding their behaviour so he becomes far more anxious when he feels like people are being hostile because he doesn't know why and assumes he did something wrong. Falin doesn't seem to register people's feelings at all unless she likes them. The book says she "senses that her father is clumsy with words, and that her mother worries a lot."
Huh. So Falin is nearsighted and that's why she's always squinty-eyed. And the chimera thing fixed her eyesight. Falin had a mark on her chin from when she was little so old injuries carried over to her new body. And she squinted her eyes throughout the final chapter and MMT14 so I'd assume she didn't keep the corrected vision.
Falin was 9 when Laios left home and a year later she went to the magic academy. She was there for 8 years and ran away the moment she reunited with Laios. We don't get any first-hand accounts about her opinions and experience at the academy, so I don't know whether or not she enjoyed her time there.
Everyone is generally positive about Falin. Senshi thinks all Tall-men look feminine, hence his comment. It's also why the fake Laios he made looked like her. Chilchuck has known her probably longer than anyone else aside from Laios. Kinda surprised he's uncomfortable around her.
Falin's maxims are "Let my brother...GO!", "I'm sorry. I'm taking him back", and "Wow! Oh wow! Wow! Wow!" I'm going to summarize hers as "Care for the living, be kind to the dead, and never stop being excited about the world."
So healing magic doesn't necessarily have to hurt. But you have to use additional magic to make it not hurt.
The only other point of reference I can find of someone using healing magic is when Mr Tansu healed Marcille in chapter 19 and Marcille didn't seem to feel any pain when he did it.
Honestly, I think Marcille just doesn't see the point in spending the extra magic to numb the pain when healing someone. She just wants to blow stuff up and commit international crimes with her magic. She only knows healing and support magic because it's a practical skill to have.
You know what else fiddle's with your sensations? Ibuprofen. And if you're in a situation where numbing your teammate's sense of pain while healing them puts them in danger, then they're probably in a situation where making them feel the pain when healing them is an even worse idea.
The second Falin comic is more of a world-building addition. It tells us what a priest does if they're not an adventurer. If Laios hadn't visited Falin, she would be working as a gravekeeper which Marcille says is a stable and respected job. I'd think Falin would get bored of that line of work pretty quickly with how free-spirited she is. She and Laios are where they are because they can't sit still, they're impulsive, and they like the thrill of adventure and discovery.
But they would also love a steady income as well.

Bitcoin’s $100K Dream Hangs by a Thread — And Most Investors Are Getting It Wrong
Bitcoin is standing at the edge of a knife. This isn’t just another "healthy pullback." It’s a full-blown battle for Bitcoin’s next identity — and most traders are sleepwalking into it.
At $94,000, Bitcoin isn’t deciding whether to go up or down. It’s deciding whether it still has the power to lead global risk appetite into a new cycle — or whether it will spend the next six months trapped in a brutal sideways purgatory.
Right now, everything hangs on what happens between $94,000 and $99,000. Lose here, and we could see $83,000 faster than most are ready for. Win here, and Bitcoin will be knocking on $125,000’s door sooner than Wall Street expects.
But most retail investors are looking at the wrong signals.
The Great Supply Wall: 1.76 Million BTC Says "Prove It"
You can’t talk about Bitcoin’s future right now without confronting the 1.76 million BTC elephant in the room.
According to IntoTheBlock data, roughly 2.6 million wallets have accumulated Bitcoin in the $94,125–$99,150 range. That’s a gigantic cluster of potentially nervous holders who are near break-even — and itching to sell if price action weakens.
This isn’t a casual ceiling. This is one of the densest sell walls Bitcoin has faced in this entire cycle.
In plain English: The market must show overwhelming strength to bulldoze through $99K — or risk a bloody rejection.
If Bitcoin fails here, expect a sharp flush to $89,000, maybe even $84,000. That’s not doom-mongering — it’s basic liquidity math. There are 678,000 BTC waiting at $93,000 and another 759,150 BTC around $84,000, ready to catch the fall.
History is clear: When Bitcoin meets thick resistance and fails, it doesn’t just dip — it dives.
The Bull Case Isn't Dead — But It's on Life Support
Despite this looming threat, some technical structures still favor the bulls — if they act fast.
The big beacon of hope is the Inverse Head & Shoulders pattern spotted by Titan of Crypto. On the monthly timeframe, Bitcoin has already broken out above the neckline and successfully retested it.
In technical analysis terms, that’s a textbook setup for a massive rally. Measured moves from an H&S breakout put Bitcoin’s next fair target somewhere between $125,000 and $130,000 — a full 30% rally from current levels.
And here’s the thing: Monthly structures don’t fake out easily. Short-term volatility is noise; long-term patterns are destiny.
But — and it’s a big but — even the most beautiful pattern dies if momentum completely collapses at key resistance.
Bitcoin needs to close above $96,600 in the next 1–2 weeks to invalidate this local selling pressure. Fail that, and this dream starts slipping away.
The Dangerous Illusion of Leverage Pumps
One of the biggest risks to Bitcoin right now isn’t fundamentals. It’s overheated leverage.
Data from Maartunn highlights that Bitcoin’s latest rallies have been leverage-driven Easter pumps, adding over $2 billion in open interest within 24 hours.
Leverage-based gains are fake strength. They make charts look explosive, but underneath, the moves are hollow — easy prey for liquidation cascades.
We've seen this movie before:
March 2020 — leverage wiped out 50% of Bitcoin’s price in days.
May 2021 — over-leveraged longs got liquidated into a brutal summer bear market.
If Bitcoin cannot sustain organic spot buying to support these levels, the downside risk isn’t a 5% dip — it’s a violent 10–20% correction.
The illusion of strength is far more dangerous than obvious weakness.
The $83K Scenario: A Brutal, Necessary Cleansing
If Bitcoin fails to reclaim momentum here, I’m betting on a swift correction toward $83,000–$85,000.
Why that zone? Because that’s where real organic demand still exists — where conviction buyers, not speculators, are waiting.
Swissblock’s analysts agree:
$89,000–$90,000 is minor support (first landing pad)
$83,000–$85,000 is the real floor (where serious bids are stacked)
Think of it this way: A drop to $83K isn’t Bitcoin dying. It’s Bitcoin shedding dead weight before launching higher.
In fact, historically, Bitcoin’s strongest rallies often follow sharp, painful flushes. Clear out weak hands → reset leverage → real buyers step in → next leg higher.
It’s brutal, but it’s healthy.
The Macro Tailwind Few Are Talking About
While short-term technicals are messy, the macro backdrop quietly favors Bitcoin’s long-term strength.
Paul Atkins, the newly appointed SEC Chairman, is pro-crypto and already hinting at broader ETF approvals.
The U.S. dollar continues to show relative weakness, supporting Bitcoin’s narrative as a "digital safe haven."
Spot Bitcoin ETFs are raking in billions, cementing Bitcoin’s place in institutional portfolios.
When you zoom out, this is no longer the 2017 retail casino. This is Bitcoin’s first cycle as a mainstream macro asset.
Corrections are not only survivable — they’re investment opportunities for the brave.
Short-Term Pain, Long-Term Glory
Here’s where I’m planting my flag:
Bitcoin likely faces one more sharp correction toward $83,000–$85,000 in the next 30 days.
This will be painful, ugly, and drive fear headlines.
Smart money will be loading the dip, not panic selling.
By late 2025, Bitcoin will not only reclaim $100,000 — it will sprint past it toward $125,000 and beyond.
If you’re scared now, you’re looking too close. Zoom out. The future is already written — you just have to survive the turbulence.
Buckle Up
Bitcoin isn’t dying. It’s battling for its next chapter.
The $94,000–$99,000 zone is no joke. Fail here, and the next few weeks will be rough — but ultimately necessary.
If you can’t handle the volatility, Bitcoin has a simple message for you: This asset was never for the faint of heart.
And if you can? You’re about to witness history.

Bitcoin Price Volatility Decoded: Market Influencers, Expert Strategies, and Future Predictions
Bitcoin’s meteoric rise and dramatic price swings have captivated investors worldwide. From its 2021 peak of $69,000 to its current valuation fluctuating between $97,000 and $99,000 (note: this figure may require verification, as Bitcoin has not yet reached this price historically), the cryptocurrency remains a high-risk, high-reward asset. Its volatility is driven by a complex interplay of geopolitical events, institutional activity, regulatory shifts, and market sentiment. In this comprehensive guide, we dissect Bitcoin’s price drivers, share actionable strategies to navigate its turbulence, and explore expert predictions for its trajectory through 2025 and beyond.
Understanding Bitcoin’s Price Volatility
Bitcoin’s decentralized nature and finite supply make it uniquely sensitive to external forces. Unlike traditional assets, its value hinges on speculative demand, technological developments, and global macroeconomic trends. Let’s break down the key factors shaping its price movements.
Top 5 Market Influencers Driving Bitcoin’s Price
Geopolitical Events Example: Trump’s Tariffs and Bitcoin’s Drop In 2024, Bitcoin’s price fell below $100,000 after former U.S. President Donald Trump reinstated import tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. Such policies trigger market uncertainty, often pushing investors toward or away from Bitcoin as a perceived "safe haven."
Institutional Investment Heavyweights like BlackRock and Fidelity have entered the crypto space, with Bitcoin ETFs amassing $4.2 billion in inflows in early 2024 alone. BlackRock’s IBIT ETF now ranks 31st globally, signaling growing mainstream acceptance.
Regulatory Developments Nations like El Salvador (adopting Bitcoin as legal tender) and the Czech Republic (considering Bitcoin reserves) shape its legitimacy. Conversely, stricter regulations in other regions can dampen prices.
Market Sentiment and Technical Analysis The 2024 “bear trap” — where prices briefly dipped before rallying — highlights how trader psychology and chart patterns (e.g., support/resistance levels) influence short-term volatility.
Technological Advancements Upgrades like the Lightning Network improve transaction efficiency, boosting adoption. Conversely, security breaches or network congestion can trigger sell-offs.
Expert Tips to Navigate Bitcoin’s Volatility
Stay Ahead of News Cycles: Follow crypto news platforms (e.g., CoinDesk, Cointelegraph) and set Google Alerts for keywords like “Bitcoin regulation” or “ETF approvals.” Pro Tip: Use tools like LunarCrush to track social media sentiment in real time.
Diversify and Hedge Risks: Allocate only 5–10% of your portfolio to Bitcoin. Pair it with stablecoins or gold to mitigate losses during downturns.
Leverage Technical Analysis: Identify trends using indicators like RSI (Relative Strength Index) and moving averages. For instance, a sustained price above the 200-day MA often signals a bull market.
Follow Analyst Predictions: While skeptics warn of Bitcoin becoming “worthless,” firms like Bernstein predict a $150,000 price target by 2025, citing institutional demand.
Adopt a Long-Term Perspective: Historical data shows Bitcoin’s bull cycles last ~4 years. Hodling (long-term holding) has outperformed short-term trading for many investors.
Case Studies: Real-World Market Influencers
Trump’s Tariffs (2024): Bitcoin’s 15% drop post-tariff announcement underscores its sensitivity to geopolitical risks. Investors shifted temporarily to bonds and USD, but Bitcoin recovered within weeks as institutions bought the dip.
El Salvador’s Bitcoin Adoption: The country’s 2021 move to legalize Bitcoin increased global retail interest, though merchant adoption remains optional. This experiment tests Bitcoin’s viability as a national currency.
BlackRock’s ETF Success: IBIT’s $4.2 billion inflows demonstrate how institutional products democratize access, attracting capital from risk-averse investors.
Bitcoin’s Future: Analyst Predictions for 2025
Extended Bull Market Analysts argue the current cycle could stretch beyond 2025 due to ETF-driven demand and the 2024 halving event reducing supply.
Milder Corrections Increased institutional participation may stabilize prices, preventing the 80% crashes seen in earlier cycles.
Global Reserve Asset Status With nations like the Czech Republic exploring Bitcoin reserves, it could evolve into a digital counterpart to gold.
Bitcoin’s volatility is both a challenge and an opportunity. By understanding market influencers — from tariffs to ETFs — and employing strategies like diversification and technical analysis, investors can better navigate this dynamic asset. While short-term swings are inevitable, Bitcoin’s growing institutional adoption and finite supply suggest a promising long-term outlook. Stay informed, stay strategic, and consider positioning for the 2025 bull run.

Fin — Cleats (Hausu Mountain)
youtube
New York based Canadian artist Fin Simonetti brings inspiration from art history and her own practice as a sculptor into her highly detailed music. Looking at examples of her work you are struck by the discrepancy between form and material. A bear trap intricately sculpted from Tiffany like glass panes, the fragility of which renders it useless. Stained glass laid over barbershop model charts, is she sanctifying the mundane or ironizing the sacred? Her music has the same sense of detached mystery albeit her voice, at once tremulous and composed, provides emotionally powerful admission to her songs. Those songs take the forms of pop, R’n’B and triphop but the material elements are warped and filtered in ways that create subtle but interesting subversions. On one level one can listen to Cleats as a well-executed album of trippy dream pop. But look closer and all sorts of dissonances lay beneath.
With titles referencing art movements and lyrics that use visual art as metaphors for perception, surveillance and control, Fin accretes musical details in a painterly fashion and gives her songs the three-dimensional feel of sculpture. The juxtaposition of liturgical atmospheres and the recognizable sounds of contemporary pop production mirror shifting moods of reverence and scorn, joy and dread. “Feudal Reader” for instance opens in the cloister. Bells chime, harp and celeste shimmer before voice enters over a chunky beat, “When I read it/I feel so like/I could live a million years of murder.” The implied violence is more despair than threat and as Fin harmonizes with herself it feels like a hedge against erasure. On the surface “Histamine” sounds thoroughly modern with references to tetracycline, pattern recognition and social expectations, a stumbling trip-hop beat, droning organ and melismatic vocal. A closer listen reveals a grumbling demon bubbling up under a harpsichord like riff in the background. “The Known World” feels like the opposite as Fin, her voice measured over polyrhythms and tempo changes, jams big Linn drum fills over collapsing dance beats, chains and breaking glass.
She closes the album with the aptly named “Egress”, three minute 40 second degaussing of distortion and bass tones which erases all that went before. As a statement on the transience of artistic endeavor it’s a strange move from a worker in stone but with Fin nothing is ever completely as it seems.

Morning Star Candlestick: The Indian Trader’s 2025 Playbook 🌄

A bruising sell-off turns into a fireworks rally—that pivot often starts with a Morning Star candlestick, a three-candle bullish reversal that shows bears losing their grip and bulls sprinting in. Indian traders on NIFTY 50, Bank Nifty, and mid-caps see this pattern appear every month, yet many still miss the turn. This guide puts the spotlight on the Morning Star, backs it with research, sprinkles in live examples from Dalal Street, and shows exactly how to track it on Strike Money.

1️⃣ Morning Star Basics—Plain-Speak Definition 🤔
A Morning Star is a three-step story:
✨ Day 1 closes deep red, proving sellers are in charge. ✨ Day 2 gaps down but stays tiny (often a doji), telling us exhaustion is near. ✨ Day 3 gaps up and closes strong green, reclaiming at least half of Day 1’s fall—confirmation the baton has passed to buyers.
In exhaustive back-tests of over 1,500 stocks, researchers have found the pattern flipped price direction 78 % of the time, ranking high among candlestick setups for reliability.
2️⃣ Candle Psychology—Why Bulls Suddenly Win 🔍
Sellers push price so far on Day 1 that late shorts happily pile in. The next session opens lower, but volume dries up—no fresh supply. The tiny second candle is indecision in neon lights. By the third open, trapped bears scramble to cover, institutions sense blood, and a gap-up sparks a broad bid. The long green close seals bullish sentiment. Volume often triples across the three sessions, peaking on the final push, a tell-tale sign you can see on Strike Money’s volume overlay.
3️⃣ From Rice Pits to Dalal Street—A Short Origin Story 🌾➡️📈
Japanese rice merchant Munehisa Homma sketched the first candlestick charts in the 1700s. Two centuries later, Steve Nison brought them to the West, decoding centuries-old patterns for modern markets. Then came academic validation. A landmark study by three financial researchers—Lo, Mamaysky, and Wang—found statistical backing for price patterns, including Morning Stars, showing they led to consistent return edges even in highly liquid markets.
Technical analysis is no longer just art—it’s backed by data and decades of market observation.
4️⃣ Spotting a High-Quality Morning Star—The Five-Tick Checklist ✅
👉 Deep Context: Pattern must form after a minimum two-week down-swing; sideways ranges don’t count. 👉 Gap Logic: Day 2 opens below Day 1’s close, Day 3 opens above Day 2’s body. 👉 Candle Proportions: Third candle should eat at least 50 % of Day 1’s body. 👉 Volume Spike: Rising turnover through the trio, climaxing on Day 3, is ideal. 👉 Neighbourhood: Pattern near a weekly support or the 50-day SMA improves odds.
Strike Money lets you tag these checkpoints with custom alerts—no coding needed.
5️⃣ “Show Me the Numbers!”—Research & Statistics 📊
🔹 A wide-ranging candlestick study tracked reversal patterns and found the Morning Star reversed trends 78 % of the time. 🔹 A variant called the Morning Doji Star was slightly less common but still showed strong reversal strength—around 76 % on average. 🔹 A leading academic study confirmed visual patterns like Morning Star carried statistically significant predictive power beyond random walk behavior. 🔹 In India, a 2023 study on NIFTY 100 stocks showed Morning Star setups beat baseline buy-and-hold returns by over 3 % within 10 trading days.
Patterns alone won’t guarantee profits—but they tilt the odds.
6️⃣ Morning Stars in the Wild—Recent Indian Case Studies 🚀
Reliance Industries (May 15–17, 2024)
Day 1: Stock plunged 4.6 % post-earnings. Day 2: Gapped down, printed a doji with extremely low volume. Day 3: Gapped up and closed up 5 %, taking out the previous 3-day high. 📈 Outcome: Reliance rallied 9.4 % in 6 sessions.
Tata Consultancy Services (Aug 9–11, 2023)
A textbook Morning Star formed at ₹3,150—also a known horizontal support. The next four weeks? A rally of over 11 %.
Bank Nifty Futures (March 2025 Quarterly Contract)
On a 15-minute chart, a Morning Star emerged at 10:45 a.m. on March 4. Futures surged over 320 points by EOD—proof the pattern’s power on intraday levels.
Morning Stars are not rare. But spotting them early? That’s where tools like Strike Money come in.
7️⃣ Trade Blueprint—Entries, Stops & Targets 🎯
🟢 Entry: Wait for price to break above the high of Candle 3. 🛡️ Stop-Loss: Just below the low of Candle 2. 🎯 Target: Measure Candle 1’s body height and project it upward from Day 3’s close—or trail it using ATR for strong trends.
Position sizing matters. Risk no more than 1 % of capital per trade. Strike Money helps plan this with its integrated risk calculator.
8️⃣ Super-Charging the Pattern—Indicators That Add Edge ⚙️
✨ Volume: A steady rise in volume across all three candles is your best ally. ✨ RSI Divergence: When price makes a new low but RSI does not—it’s a bullish warning shot. ✨ 50-Day SMA: A Morning Star breaking above this average often leads to multi-week rallies.
Combine a Morning Star with these tools for edge—not confusion.
9️⃣ Common Pitfalls That Burn New Traders 🔥
❌ Taking every 3-candle formation as valid—context matters. ❌ Ignoring volume and treating low-turnover stocks the same. ❌ Trading around news or earnings; patterns often fail in volatility spikes. ❌ Doubling down after a failed setup instead of reassessing.
Learn the checklist, keep risk in check, and don’t marry a single signal.
🔟 Rapid-Fire FAQ—Your Top Questions Answered ❓
💬 Does this pattern work on 5-minute or 15-minute charts? Yes—but higher timeframes like daily or 1-hour offer more reliable setups.
💬 Do NSE gap rules affect this pattern? Use the 9:15 open as your Day 2 candle’s start. Ignore pre-open volatility.
💬 Can this be used with Fibonacci retracement? Absolutely. If a Morning Star appears at a 61.8 % retracement, it adds confirmation.
💬 Morning Star vs Evening Star—same logic? Yes, reversed. Evening Star signals bearish reversal after an uptrend.
💬 How to scan for it fast? Use Strike Money’s built-in Morning Star scanner. Set it to alert when volume rises too.
💬 Is the doji necessary for this pattern? No. A small-bodied Candle 2 works as long as it signals indecision.
💬 What timeframe works best in India? Daily candles are most trusted. But swing traders also use hourly charts for early signals.
💬 Does it appear often in NIFTY 50 stocks? Yes. On average, 6–8 good-quality patterns appear per quarter across the top 50.
💬 How do I backtest this strategy? Strike Money lets you visually replay past candles and match them against outcomes—great for pattern validation.

Why is Dogecoin price down today?
The price of Dogecoin (DOGE) is down today, mirroring the trend elsewhere in the cryptocurrency market. Elon Musk triggers DOGE profit-taking On July 18, DOGE price fell 1.75% to $0.068, slightly underperforming the rest of the crypto market that dropped 1% in the same period. DOGE/USD daily price chart. Source: TradingView Dogecoin's price decline came as a part of a broader correction from its local high of $0.075, established after Ripple's partial win over the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) three days ago. The day before, DOGE saw a modest, albeit short-lived gains due to Elon Musk. Dogecoin price climbed 5.3% to $0.073 after the billionaire appears to have referenced the meme-cryptocurrency. Doges — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 17, 2023 Therefore, the July 18 pullback could be the result of traders securing short-term profits enabled by Musk. Furthermore, the downside move trapped enthusiastic bulls across crypto derivatives exchanges, leading to long liquidations worth $1.50 million in the past 24 hours, which likely intensified the selloff. DOGE total liquidation chart. Source: Coinglass DOGE price outlook in July From a technical standpoint, DOGE's correction started after testing a resistance confluence comprising of its 200-day exponential moving average (200-day EMA; the blue wave in the chart below) and a multi-month descending trendline (black). DOGE/USD daily price chart. Source: TradingView As of July 18, DOGE/USD held above the resistance-turned-support of 50-day EMA (the red wave) near $0.068. Failing to hold it longer could mean an extended decline toward $0.066 in July, a support confluence comprising a horizontal line (purple) and an ascending trendline (black). Conversely, a bounce from the 50-day EMA could have DOGE price test the resistance confluence near $0.075 as their July upside target. Dogecoin price long-term outlook Dogecoin has meanwhile painted what appears to be a "BARR Bottom" pattern on its daily chart. Related: Bitcoin price is ‘stuck’ at $30K — Here are 3 reasons why BARR stands for Bump-and-Run-Reversal, a technical setup that traditional analysts perceive as a bullish reversal pattern when formed during a bear market. As of July 18, DOGE price appears to be in the pattern's breakout stage, as illustrated below. DOGE/USD daily price chart. Source: TradingView If the pattern is confirmed by further gains, DOGE price can grow by as much as the BARR Bottom pattern's maximum height. In other words, a bullish target o $0.088 by September 2023, up 30% from current price levels. This article does not contain investment advice or recommendations. Can we get more pirate Makino
Of course! I’m actually writing a thing about exactly that, so here’s a glimpse from the first chapter of a three-part fic I’ve been working on, titled On the Water (alternatively: How to Become a Pirate in Your Thirties).
Follows Long Live, rated M for, well, Shanks. The full story will be up on AO3 when it’s finished, but I hope you enjoy this sneak peek!
-
For her birthday he gave her the horizon, but adapting to life at sea was a work in progress.
The ropes scuffed her palms, gentle hands that had always known hard work, just not this particular kind. She’d have blisters tomorrow, Makino suspected, although hoped that was all she’d have, and not a broken back and fractured skull to boot.
“Need a hand?”
His voice reached down towards her, as a big hand was offered, the broad palm roughened with harder calluses than hers. The metal of his wedding ring caught the sunlight; unlike his fingers, it didn’t bear the evidence of his way of life, but then he hadn’t been wearing it on his hand for very long.
Her own ring was dulled and scratched from wear; the curious symmetry of their lives, at least before her recent about-face in terms of careers, her apron and serving tray exchanged with canvas, rope, and questionable safety measures.
She looked at the hand held out to her, following the sinewy forearm to Shanks, perched on the ratlines above her with an effortlessness she couldn’t decide if made her want to gawk or shriek in frustration. The fact that he could even offer his hand was hard to believe, given that he only had one, but he looked utterly unhindered by the fact, his bare feet steady where he balanced on the ropes, in a way that made it seem like having two hands would have just been overkill.
For her own part, Makino was trying her best not to cling with every appendage she had.
“Are you being cheeky?” she called up, just a little shrilly, gripping the ropes when an impish gust of wind sent the ratlines swaying.
“You tell me,” came the quick reply, her disbelief parried with the flash of a roguish grin. “You’re the one with the view.”
Poised on the ropes directly beneath him, Makino demurely refused to acknowledge the cheeks in question, hugged rather snugly by the fabric of his pants where he leaned his weight against the ropes. Today’s pattern was cheerful palm tree leaves against a bright red backdrop. The fact that it might be the last thing she saw before falling to her death was a sobering thought.
“Eyes aloft, sailor,” Shanks said, a note of command that sent a shiver jumping up her spine, and that had her gaze darting from his rear to his face, and the delighted grin stretched across it. “I know I’m distracting, but try to be professional?”
Had she been a better liar, she might have attempted a glib retort. As it was, the sight of him on the ropes was distracting, a captain in his natural element, his feet bare and his signature cloak discarded; the ruggedness of a man who’d spent his life at sea, all rough stubble and sun-darkened skin swept with dark hair, his half-buttoned shirt straining over his wide shoulders in a way that really ought to be against the law, or at the very least prohibited during certain circumstances, like, say, when she was trying to keep her concentration so she didn’t fall and break every bone in her body.
The toned arm extended towards her, the right sleeve cinched around his bicep, flexing when he caught her eyes darting to it.
Her attempt at an unfazed expression faltered, and his chuckle chased her gaze when she averted it, although her blush was arguably more incriminating, but then it was hard not to be impressed, and she still wasn’t used to seeing him like this.
Curling her toes, she tested her balance. She’d rolled her breeches up past her knees, and her bare feet helped with her grip on the lines. The only thing she’d kept of the clothes she’d brought aboard with her was her loose-sleeved blouse, and even her kerchief had been exchanged for a longer scarf to better hold back her hair; red with white embroideries, he’d gifted it to her shortly after they’d set out from Fuschia, weaved into her long braid now, brushing her spine where it hung between her shoulder blades. She wore no further embellishments, although had wondered how she might look, with gold in her ears and on her fingers, or pearls from the bottom of the sea. Trappings for a different pirate, or at least a bolder one.
She missed her skirts, her silk bodices and embroidered aprons, but this was more practical, and better suited her new chores. Maybe one day she’d be a barmaid again, but for now she was a pirate, and if an enemy showed up, they wouldn’t be asking for a drink.
Shanks offered his hand again, and this time Makino took it, sea-roughened fingers wrapping around her smaller ones tightly, and her breath seized when he lifted her up, and so fast she had to stifle the startled yelp that escaped her, and heard his laughter, a softer thing now as she scrambled to hold on to her new perch on the ratlines beside him.
Her feet curled around the ropes as she tried to reclaim her balance, her breath hitching when the rigging swayed.
She watched as Shanks moved, his leg sliding behind hers as he put himself behind her. A big hand settled over one of hers, gripping it reassuringly.
“Breathe,” came the gentle order, as her back met the sturdy width of his chest, the support allowing her to relax enough to slacken her death grip on the lines, the breath she’d been holding easing out as she did. His feet caged hers, tiny in comparison, his body keeping her secure on the lines. The top of her head was barely level with his sternum; she could feel the warmth of his skin bared by his shirt where it pressed against her back. “Attagirl.”
Shifting his weight, his hips brushed against her backside, and her breath shivered with her laugh, feeling him.
“This is hardly what I’d call professional,” Makino said, even as she yielded some of her weight to him, glad of the support offered by his bigger frame.
“What are you talking about? I’m the essence of professionalism. I just have a very hands-on approach to teaching.” His grin brushed the tender spot on her neck beneath her ear as he rumbled, “This is the first time I hear you complaining about that.”
“I’m not complaining,” Makino said, the shiver in her voice betraying her reaction, but sensing an opportunity to give him a taste of his own medicine, added demurely, “I like having you behind me.”
She felt his surprise in the startled grip of his fingers, and could picture his grin from the winded laugh that reached through her back.
“Say things like that and you’ll make me lose my grip.” The way he pressed against her felt retaliatory, her breath hitching at the grind of his hips, and the hardness beneath her rear. “I’m trying to show you the ropes here.” His lips skimmed the back of her neck, the fleeting kiss followed by a rumble, “Although if we move this to our cabin I can show you some different ones.”
Her heart skipped, although not so much for the suggestion as for the casual use of our that had found its way into his vocabulary lately.
Her laugh was soft, and she felt him squeeze her hand. “Such a thorough education you’re giving me.”
“Well, I want you to be prepared,” Shanks said, as a grinning kiss marked the spot above her pulse. “There are some real scoundrels on this sea.”
“Oh, I know.” Her eyes flicked up to catch his, tempered steel in the sunlight. “If I’m not careful, one might steal me away on his ship.”
His look softened, a gentler kind of heat, before he bent to kiss the crown of her head.
But even teasingly said, it touched upon something she hadn’t broached with him yet; an underlying fear that had followed her from East Blue like a shadow in the water, and that was a large part of why she wanted to learn how to sail.
She didn’t want him to regret taking her with him―that there should come a day when her inexperience would cease being endearing, if she became a burden he couldn’t afford to have on his ship.
“Hey,” Shanks said then; the shift in his tone made her blink, before she realised that her thoughts had wandered. “Everything okay?”
Makino nodded, and hoped the slight quaver in her voice helped make her lie convincing. “Just made the mistake of looking down.”
There was a beat where she wondered if he’d seen through her deceit, but then, “As much as I’m enjoying teaching you,” Shanks said, and she was surprised there was no teasing in his voice now, “you know you don’t have to learn this, right? I captain a pretty big crew. We’ve got plenty of hands on deck, and that’s not an amputee quip.”
Murmurs of agreement backed him, from the crew gathered below, all of them having come out on deck to observe. She’d ask them to mind their own business if she’d thought it would work, but recognised a lost battle. They hadn’t minded their own business since the day they’d met.
Although catching the wary looks on their faces, she wondered if the real reason they’d gathered to watch was so they could catch her if she slipped.
Ben was holding the baby, wide-eyed and sucking on his fingers where he watched them both aloft, and she had the sudden thought that he probably wouldn’t forget it if she fell to her death.
It almost made her hesitate, wondering if she really was pushing it, and that her focus was better spent on something a little less hazardous, like charting stars or assisting Marsh in the galley, and not on building a career as a sailor when she was long past the age most swabbies got their first posting. She wasn’t even a proper swabbie, but couldn’t exactly claim a higher rank when she had no skills or credentials to back it up.
But there was a part of her that wouldn’t back down, even against her own misgivings. She couldn’t choose this life, his life, and keep living the way she had. This sea wouldn’t allow it, and she’d be naive if she believed otherwise.
It was never going to be easy, and she was painfully aware that she’d chosen the worst possible time to abandon her law-abiding job to become a pirate. Granted, most fledgling pirates didn’t achieve overnight fame and a back-bending kiss on the cover of the WENP. If she’d hoped for a subtle change of careers, that ship had thoroughly sailed.
But whatever kind of pirate she turned out to be, she didn’t want to be useless. At the very least, she wanted to know her way around his ship.
“It’s not like I’m going to put you on watch duty,” Shanks said, when a lull had passed where she hadn’t spoken. “That’s why we have Fen, although between you and me, if Whiskey could sound the alarm, he’d be out of a job.”
“No offence, Boss, but that cat was shat out of satan’s arsehole,” spoke the freckled young man seated on the yard above them, with the ease of someone who spent a lot of time aloft, and who didn’t have thirty-two years of deeply burrowed roots holding him back. “But yeah, you’re probably right.”
“If our ship’s cat can do it, then I should be able to,” Makino retorted pertly, although didn’t say that she’d rather not spend a whole night in the crow’s nest by herself. Not that Shanks would ask her, and if he did, he’d have something rather different in mind than keeping watch, but even that would be moot if she couldn’t get up there by herself.
If they hadn’t had an audience, she might have told him. Instead what she said was, “I can’t be a pirate without any sailing skills, Shanks.”
“Hey, there are plenty of pirates who have no sailing skills,” Shanks countered. “Don’t underestimate how much you can get away with by riding someone’s coattails. It’s done wonders for Buggy’s career.”
“At this rate, he’ll be an Emperor soon,” Fen said.
“Who will?” Yasopp asked, appearing on the yard beside Fen, causing Makino to start, and she was glad to have Shanks behind her, as she didn’t lose her grip. She hadn’t even seen him climb up, but, “Hey, Ma-chan,” he chirped, swinging his legs over the yard as he took a seat. “How’s it hanging?”
“Oh, just swimmingly,” Makino sighed, and tried not to squirm, uncomfortably aware of all the eyes on her. Unlike Shanks, she’d never loved the spotlight, particularly when doing something she wasn’t good at, and it was a little intimidating to have a whole crew of experienced pirates observing her stumbling attempts into learning their craft.
For all its delight, Yasopp’s grin was understanding, and her gratitude was silent when that sharp-eyed gaze left her to look at Fen, his arms crossed over his chest in a casual repose as he repeated his earlier question, “So who’ll be an Emperor soon?”
“Buggy,” Fen said.
Yasopp snorted, but after a beat, conceded, “You know, I wouldn’t put it past him. He’s got a way of falling upwards.” Then with a grin, “Roster’s getting pretty packed now, though, with Luffy and this one,” he said, nodding to Makino. “You’ll have to watch out for challengers now that you’ve announced yourself, Ma-chan. It’s eat or be eaten on this sea.”
“Don’t,” Makino said primly, before Shanks could open his mouth, and she couldn’t see his grin but she could imagine it well enough. Then to Yasopp, “And please don’t include me in this power-grabbing contest.”
“I hate to break it to you, my heart, but it’s a little late for that,” Shanks said.
“You did give an interview,” Yasopp pointed out.
“The photograph was also hard to misinterpret,” Fen agreed.
“I don’t mind what they call me,” Makino said, and already knew what it was, the endearment that had been given to her by the man she’d married long before she’d asked him to take her with him, but Empress was symbolic, not declarative, and the title itself wasn’t the issue. “It’s about what they expect. I’m not going to challenge anyone, I just want to be a normal pirate. No politics, just plain and simple swashbuckling. Whatever happened to parrots and peg legs?”
“Do you want a parrot?” Shanks asked.
“What I want is for my merits to speak for themselves,” she said, gently firm as she tipped her head back to meet his eyes. “Small and unimportant as they might be.”
His look held a thought he didn’t share, but before he could say anything, “So I’m not riding your coattails,” she told him, and was quick to add, “And don’t,”―he pinched his lips shut, although the boyish grin stayed―“make that into something lewd. It’s too easy, even for you.”
“She’s got a point, Cap,” Yasopp said. Fen made a noise of agreement.
“I feel like you’re all underestimating my creativity, but whatever,” Shanks said. “Also, ‘even for you’, wife? The level of disrespect. You’re on my ship now, and last I checked, I was still the captain.”
Doubtful murmurs from the deck below, which he answered by sticking his tongue out.
Her smile was sweetly mutinous. “Let me rephrase, then: I’m not riding your coattails, Captain.”
She knew from his grin that she was going to be paying for that later, but, “Have I told you that I find your premature midlife crisis adorable?” Shanks said instead. “Most people just change their hair. Or buy a really big boat.”
“Or marry a younger woman,” Ben supplied from around his toothpick. The baby on his arm was falling asleep, his head tucked under his chin.
Shanks turned his head to call down, “Et tu, you ass?”
Laughing agreement from the rest of their crew set off a debate of who’d had the biggest midlife crisis to date―a tie between Yasopp’s dreads and their captain’s choice of wife, who demurely elected to have no opinion on the matter―and Makino felt the momentary reprieve of their attentions, Shanks’ in particular, who for all his easygoing attitude had been watching her closely since they’d begun climbing the rigging.
It wasn’t that he minded her learning, but she wondered sometimes if he’d expected her to take the safer route, or at least one that didn’t include the risk of breaking her neck. His desire to protect her was endearing, if a little hypocritical from a man who was entirely too casual about danger. Their departure from East Blue was only the most recent example.
It had been a few weeks since her birthday, when she’d left the only home she’d ever known, chased from her safe shores by a fleet of navy warships. That last part had thankfully not needed repeating, but then the navy didn’t have the same foothold on this sea, or the presence to enforce their authority, in her husband’s territory.
Hers now, too, or at least symbolically, although even then it was a lot to accept for someone whose only claim before this had been to a little bar on the seaside. She still hadn’t fully grasped the finer points of the New World’s politics, aside from the precarious balance of powers that always felt one nudge away from toppling, and even saying that she wanted no part in it, she wondered sometimes if she would even have a choice.
Warm fingers squeezed hers. “Ready?” Shanks asked, and with a fortifying breath, Makino nodded.
She felt him shift his weight, yielding room for her as she made to climb further up the ratlines, and following close behind her until they reached the footrope beneath the course yard, where the bottom sails were stowed.
Reaching past her, she watched him swing himself up onto the yard, nimble in a way that never ceased to amaze her. She’d used to observe him working aloft, that first year they’d been docked in Fuschia, but watching him still stole her breath, his amputation no more a hindrance than the wind, and sure-footed in a way that made her wonder if he’d ever feared anything.
She wished for a bit of that confidence now, as she focused on making it look like she wasn’t clinging to the ratlines now that he was no longer behind her.
Her gaze fleeted down to the deck. She’d never been particularly afraid of heights, but then she’d made a point of keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground. The only other occasions she’d stepped out of her comfort zone had been at his direction, except this was a bit higher up than atop a table.
Shanks extended his hand to her, and this time she was prepared when he pulled her up, her weight not even a minor burden as he lifted her onto the course yard in a single, fluid movement.
His hand cupped her elbow, steadying her as she found her footing. It was the lowest yard on the mast, but the distance to the deck still felt considerable.
The sea spray was gentle against her cheeks, touched pink by the sun that had darkened her freckles, the weeks they’d been at sea. The salt wind kept trying to stubbornly coax her hair out of her scarf, a few rogue strands freed to brush her cheekbones.
Looking up at Shanks found him watching her, so tall she had to crane her neck to meet his eyes, a thought behind them she wasn’t privy to, but at her questioning look he just said, “It suits you.”
Bemusement wrinkled her brow as she laughed, winded from the climb, “What, sweat and your old capris?”
The lines at the corners of his eyes deepened, a fey smile that made her wonder if she’d guessed correctly, before his hand lifted to cradle her cheek, his thumb brushing the arch of her cheekbone before tucking an errant lock of salt-swept hair back into her scarf, as Shanks said simply, “The sea.”
Her grin wavered, and she had no comeback to that, but he only curled his fingers under hers, lifting her hand to kiss her knuckles, before gesturing to the mast. “After you.”
He let her grip his hand until she’d found a foothold, and kept one step behind her as she climbed the ratlines towards the top of the mast, until they’d reached the topgallant yard, and balancing on the footrope, he waited until she’d hoisted herself up before climbing up beside her.
The sea spooled out beneath them, the blue silk sky above the horizon the most perfect she’d ever seen. This high up, the wind sang louder between the masts, laughing where it tugged and teased the rigging, the shrouds stretched taut and the ratlines creaking as the ship swayed.
Releasing a shuddering breath, Makino eased her legs down on either side of the wooden yard. She didn’t think she’d ever get used to seeing the world from this perspective, and couldn’t say if the thrill she felt leaned more towards fear or excitement. 60/40, probably.
She looked down.
…or maybe 70/30.
Searching for a distraction, she lifted her eyes to Shanks, his long legs draped astride the yard, like he might sit on one of the benches in the galley. “How does it feel?”
Breathing in deeply, “Like I want to throw up,” Makino said, and saw his grin where it split his face.
Her smile softened, and keeping her eyes on him, she said, “And like I never want to go back down.”
His grin held understanding, and a feeling that made her heart ache, it was so fierce, and that wasn’t the view’s doing, although it was an undeniably spectacular sight, the sea and the sky ever-bending, the world stretched as far as it would go from horizon to horizon; an otherworldliness about this ocean that was humbling, faced with her own mortality against those terrifying powers, which had nothing to do with the pirates who sailed it.
Before coming to the New World, she hadn’t known what to expect. Between Shanks’ camping stories and the navy’s propaganda, all she’d known was that it wouldn’t be anything like East Blue, which meant she couldn’t keep being the same person she’d been. Not if she wanted to be in an Emperor’s crew, even just as his wife. There was no room for the ordinary in this realm, where only the extraordinary survived.
Lowering her gaze, she braved a glance at the deck far below. Hopefully she wouldn’t fall and break her neck. Given the countless ways to die on this sea, it seemed a somewhat anticlimactic way to go.
Lifting her eyes to Shanks found him considering her, outlined by the sun behind him, his eyes hooded under his scars, a curiously vulnerable look in them now, as though he couldn’t quite make himself believe she was really there.
She wondered if that look would fade, if he ever came to regret bringing her with him.
The intrusive thought slipped past her defences, before she blinked it away.
“So, my barmaid,” Shanks said, the tender note in his voice rendering it too sincere for teasing. “How are you finding the pirate’s life so far?”
She hoped her smile didn’t betray her earlier thoughts. “It’s actually been pretty uneventful,” Makino said, with a lightness that attempted to conceal the slight shiver in her voice. “I’m almost beginning to wonder if you really were exaggerating about all your dangerous escapades. I’ve seen no bears, either.”
His smile indulged her teasing, but his silence was telling.
She wondered what he was shielding her from, and if she even wanted to know. But even if she couldn’t hide from it forever, she was grateful for the uneventfulness of their voyage thus far. It wasn’t the same as Fuschia, with its gentle monotony, and where change had always been welcome. On this sea, change could easily be synonymous with war.
Her stomach twisted at the reminder, but looking out over the sea found it calm, although she did wonder what would happen the day it inevitably caught up with them. Shanks had enemies, and one in particular had featured in her nightmares since long before she’d asked to come with him.
Blinking her eyes, she dispelled the thought of Blackbeard, anchoring her focus in the present, and Shanks on the yard beside her, in his shirtsleeves and with his pants rolled up past his knees, the deceptive trappings of a simple sailor, and not the pirate lord the world knew. The wind had dragged its fingers through his hair, and his scars looked gentler under the look of contentment on his face, his staggering features eased with a smile, and the note of tension that was usually there gone from his brow.
Looking at him, it was almost easy to forget the authority he held on this sea; the kind of power he commanded, and the territories under his flag. To believe for a few seconds that she might be a simple sea captain’s wife, and nothing more.
But lifting her eyes to the top of the mast, and the jolly roger dancing on the breeze, there was no denying what he was, and what she was now, and had been since the day she’d married him. That the pirate who’d stolen her away from her quiet shores was not the same who’d first dropped anchor in her port twelve years ago; the one she knew as her husband.
She didn’t know him like that―as Emperor. She wondered idly if that was what he was shielding her from, more than anything else.
“You know,” Shanks said then, his eyes meeting hers. “You’re handling this a lot better than most do, their first time aloft. Buggy only made it halfway up―I bet him that I could climb higher, so of course he had to prove me wrong. You should have seen him. Captain had to climb up to get him down.”
“What about you?” Makino asked, smiling. She could picture it easily, for all that she’d never actually met Buggy.
His grin belonged to the eight-year-old up to no good, all boyish pride. “I made it to the top.”
“He had to get you down too, didn’t he?”
“Yup. I think I even cried a little on the way down.”
Her laugh tumbled out, the sound softening his eyes, and she saw his gaze where it drifted a bit, as though remembering.
Watching him, Makino tried to picture their son at that age, if he would be similarly brave, and foolish, and if he might have a little brother or sister egging him on. Maybe even more than one.
It wasn’t the first time the thought found her, imagining more children. She hadn’t brought it up since the birth of their son, and didn’t know how to broach the subject now, when their lives had changed so much. She hadn’t been able to make herself ask him what he felt about it, afraid of what the answer would be. It was already a risk having her on board, and a baby who wasn’t even a year old. A pregnancy wouldn’t exactly make things easier.
Would he think it would be too dangerous for her to stay? She couldn’t say he would be wrong, but just thinking about going back to her life before, and that aching loneliness, to wait, scared and alone on some island, filled her with a fear that made all her other worries pale in comparison.
She knew his old captain had accepted the risk, allowing the wife and children of one of his men to sail with them, but it had been a different time, and from what Shanks had told her, she could hold her own against the best in their crew. Makino couldn’t say the same for herself.
“It proves my point, though,” Shanks said, drawing her back from where her thoughts had gone, and her hand slipped from where it had been worrying her stomach. The admiration in his voice was genuine, but then for all his teasing, he’d never been the type to indulge her just to make her feel better. “You’re a natural. At this rate you’ll be dancing on the yards in no time.”
The impulse seized her, not an unusual feeling where he was concerned, wanting his eyes on her, and his admiration. It was what gave her the courage now, overtaking her fear, and spurred by the sight of his eyes widening, Makino put the future out of her mind, focusing instead on Shanks as she made to push to her feet.
Shifting her weight, she rose to her full height. She wasn’t looking at him now, but felt his focus, the near-physical grip of his eyes, fastened on her where she balanced on the yard. The wind tugged her blouse from where she’d tucked it into the waistline of her breeches, filling her lungs, until she felt light as air. Aside from being terrifying, there was something exhilarating about being aloft, so high up it felt like you could see to the very ends of the world.
The yard creaked beneath her bare feet, but her balance held as she walked the length of the yardarm, her arms lifted, but she didn’t waver, a balletic grace that cheerfully defied her hesitance climbing up, and reaching the end of the yard, she turned to find his mouth hanging open, and couldn’t keep her smile demure where it split her face, her secret revealed.
She wished she could commemorate the look on his face somehow, as Shanks told her, “I don’t know what I’m more proud of, your acting skills or the fact that you’ve been practicing without me noticing.”
Smiling, she didn’t mention that the last one had been a bigger challenge than learning to work aloft, but the nights he’d been busy with their son, going to sleep early, she’d sneak out to practice. Fen and Yasopp had been teaching her, and she saw Shanks single out both culprits now in the crow’s nest, wearing near-identical grins.
His eyes found hers again, a new look in them now, as though he was seeing her differently. And it was a look she knew but that never failed to catch her off guard, something that was at once tender and fierce, and that filled her with a thrill that knew no equal, even against the adrenaline rush of being aloft where she stood atop the sea, dressed in the warm spray and the salt wind and with blisters on her hands and feet that it would take some time yet to become proper callouses.
She wondered what he saw now when he looked at her, if it was a barmaid or a pirate; wasn’t sure which she felt like, but the look on his face rendered the distinction unimportant.
Glancing down, the drop still made her stomach turn in on itself, but it was a different feeling being up here now than it had been the first time. It might also have something to do with his reaction, and the grin that was so proud it looked like it couldn’t go any wider.
Her own pride made her bold, and made her forget the distance to the deck, and holding his eyes, she didn’t pay enough attention to her feet, or the loose bit of rope where it peeked out from where the sails were stowed.
It caught her foot.
She saw Shanks’ eyes widening, his grin falling as he scrambled to reach for her, but it was too late.
Terror seized her limbs, and even the formerly playful wind couldn’t cushion her fall as she plummeted through the air. For all that it had seemed so far, the drop to the deck below was quick, and she had less than a second to think as she twisted mid-air, grabbing for the rope as Fen tossed it down, and her heart lurched into her mouth as her downward descent changed course, the momentum provided by her fall allowing her to swing around the main mast.
The wind rushed by, dragging tears from her eyes and a terrified laugh from her chest as she soared through the air, towards the deck and the crew who’d gathered to watch, wearing horrified expressions and looking like they’d been prepared to catch her, but they were forced to step aside as Makino released her grip on the line.
Her landing wasn’t as smooth as she’d wanted, as releasing the rope saw her stumbling forward as her feet touched the deck, multiple pairs of hands reaching out to grab her, but she didn’t fall, catching herself against Lucky, who was the closest.
A full second of stunned silence followed where no one made a sound, before Yasopp let out a whooping cheer, but the rest looked so shocked, they didn’t immediately respond.
She saw the first wavering grin, before more rippled through the crowd, followed by their voices, their salt-hewn timbres raised in a roar under the open sky. It filled her chest, leaving her lightheaded as rough hands ruffled her hair and gripped her shoulders.
Still reeling, Makino didn’t tell them she was glad for the support, because it felt like her knees were about to give out.
Her heart was pounding against the roof of her mouth, adrenaline and childlike exhilaration pulling a winded laugh from her chest, bright and airy as she lifted her eyes to the main mast, only to find Shanks calling down towards her.
“Are you trying to kill me?”
Shielding her eyes from the sun, she didn’t even attempt a demure smile this time, or pretend her knees weren’t trembling as badly as her voice, even as she called up, “Were you worried, Captain?”
His breath left him in a gust she couldn’t decide whether or not was a laugh.
She watched as he lifted to his feet, her eyes widening as he reached for one of the lines, before diving off the topgallant yard, using the propulsion from his jump to swing around the mast like she had, although with far more control.
But where she’d expected him to step onto the deck, he only shifted his weight, allowing his momentum to carry him towards where she was standing, and she’d just realised what he meant to do when he swept her off her feet, the arm extended to hold the line wrapping around her tightly.
Her hands scrambled for purchase, clinging to his broad shoulders, a shrieking laugh pulling from her lips, chased by his deeper cadence as they soared through the air, once more around the mast. The wind carried them forward, and glancing down saw the drop to the water below, but it wasn’t fear that filled her this time, her nose buried in his neck with her laughter, like when he’d spin her, dancing in her bar as the fiddle played until she was dizzy and gasping for breath, only this time they danced on the squalls to the singing of the ship.
He put them down on the deck, his arm around her keeping her legs from giving out as he stepped off, holding her to him as he gently eased her down on her feet. Her whole body shook, adrenaline and laughter in equal measure as she steadied herself against his body.
His arm curled around her loosely, his palm spanning her back, but he didn’t let her go, which Makino appreciated, as she didn’t trust her legs just yet.
“That’s payback for nearly giving me a heart attack,” Shanks said, playfully chiding, although there was a slight waver in his voice that couldn’t be smoothed over with humour.
Looking up at him where he held her, her beaming smile didn’t know how to contain itself. “I wanted to surprise you.”
His look softened, somehow both achingly proud and mildly exasperated, as he told her wryly, “You succeeded.” Touching his chest, he let out a wheezing sigh. “Well, at least I know my ticker is working. Always good to know at my age.”
“I try to keep you on your toes,” Makino said, and gently glib, “That’s what a younger wife is for, or so I’ve heard.”
The chuckle that left him was winded, and pulling her close, “I love you,” he sighed. “You’ll send me to an early grave, but at least I’ll be really excited about it.”
Her grin hurt. “Any comments on my form?”
“Exquisite. Dainty and petite. Perfect, tiny breas―”
She clapped her hands over his mouth, her laughter loud and startled. “Shanks!”
“What?” he asked, his voice muffled behind her hands. “Oh, was that not what you were referring to?” His grin peeked out from behind her splayed fingers, her palms catching on his beard as he chuckled, “My bad.”
Kissing her fingers, he wrapped his own around them, his big hand dwarfing hers as he squeezed it. Makino almost thought it felt like his fingers were shaking.
His grin had eased a bit, although his voice was rough with pride as he kissed her small fist and said, “Quick reaction time, and damn impressive manoeuvres. A bit shaky on the landing, but you get extra points for theatrics.”
Beaming, she didn’t mention that she’d fallen on her ass the first eight attempts; she was just delighted she’d stuck the landing when it counted. “I still need more practice going down,” Makino said.
His whole face brightened, his grin fairly wolfish, and she recognised her mistake a second too late.
“Oh my god,” she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose with a gusting laugh.
“I’m torn between vehemently disagreeing with that statement and graciously offering myself up for you to practice on,” Shanks said, his arm wrapping around her as she bent her head towards his chest, her laughter helpless as he lowered his voice to murmur, “You know my feelings about that particular skill of yours. Look; it’s already got a standing ovation.”
She pinched his side, and demurely ignored said standing ovation where it pressed against her stomach, her arms wrapped around his waist as she leaned into his chest, his laughter soft as he pulled her close, a trembling kiss pressed to the parting of her hair.
The others were there, their voices raised with delight, “Seriously, Makino!”
Nervous laughter. “You really had us going there for a moment!”
“Yeah, no shit. I thought my heart was about to fall through my ass!”
“Lovely image,” Shanks said, his arm sliding around her back as she leaned into his side.
Ben was holding Ace, awakened from his brief nap by the commotion. For once, his untouchable expression yielded a surprising amount of feeling, although Makino didn’t know whether to call it relief or like he desperately needed a smoke.
“You’re supposed to be the one with sense,” he told her, handing the baby over to Shanks when he reached his arms towards his father.
Shanks just grinned, and settling their son on his arm, “Just wait until this little guy begins climbing the rigging. It’s a good thing you can’t get any greyer, Ben, but then it’s my turn now, I guess.”
Ben looked at them both, then at his godson. Makino wondered if it was the first time the thought had occurred to him.
Smiling, and ignoring the thought of how she would handle an overactive toddler on a ship, “Wish you hadn’t quit smoking?” Makino asked him.
Ben looked at the baby, making excited babbling noises as Shanks pointed at a seagull grooming on the yard where they’d been sitting.
But for all his long-suffering, and the worry she still felt that they’d be too much trouble to have aboard, it wasn’t regret that made a startled grin break across his face, catching even her off guard as Ben said, and with a look that made her wonder if he knew what she was hiding, “A small sacrifice.”

Prompt: Mermaid AU?
Modern AU
It all started when some asshole suggested that the next academic conference be held in Qinghe.
Not the place, of course - that’s landlocked - but rather the school that bears the name.
Now, Jiang Cheng has nothing against Qinghe, even if it is some sort of weird isolated mountainous island in the middle of the ocean. It’d be pretty hypocritical of him to complain about somewhere having too much ocean – after all, they’re all marine biologists here, and Qinghe’s one of the top five schools for it.
Top four, he supposed, after the whole scandal about the Wen school faking a bunch of results and bribing government officials and all that stuff. There isn’t really a fifth school that can come anywhere near the rest of them at the moment.
But still, Qinghe is weird, even for marine biology freaks and geeks like them. Jiang Cheng’s part of the Yunmeng school, located right on a big river delta leading out into the ocean (their name at least made sense, even if it’s not the same river as the original); they specialize in marine life on the sea floor and coastal regions, by and large, except for weirdos like Wei Wuxian. He’s writing his thesis about the sort of marine life you can find in the bottom of a gigantic deep-sea crevice not-so-fondly nicknamed “the Burial Mounds” based on the number of ships that went down around there. It’s still within the super wide category of marine life, though, so it’s fine – no restrictions.
Attempt the impossible, his father – and school head – is always saying.
Or take the Gusu school, run by the Lan family. It’s focused on preservation and restoration – they’re on an island, too, but a pretty big one; they use the tourism to help fund their efforts to fix up the coral reef in the area, and they’ve been doing wonders with it. Lots of scholarly options there.
Even the Lanling school, located in a nice coastal city and furthest inland of them all, allows there to be some variety in scholarship, and everyone knows they’re funded by the commercial fisheries that the Jin family also owns. People go there for the scholarships, and they’ve poached away enough good teachers that they’re considered one of the top schools, but, you know. Everyone knows.
(Jiang Cheng’s heard it smells of carp there, all the time. He really wishes his sister would stop dating the son and presumptive heir of the business, Jin Zixuan, but if smelling of carp day in and day out isn’t enough, if living in a place named – for real – Koi Tower isn’t enough, he’s got to assume it’s true love.)
And then there’s Qinghe.
Qinghe, run by the secretive Nie family with their super-selective admittance criteria and even more secretive customs and unbelievably beautiful academic papers that sometimes make Jiang Cheng want to cry over how much brand new information they put in their charts.
Qinghe’s different.
See, Qinghe does sharks.
That’s it.
Just sharks.
Oh, they do a wide variety of things about sharks, but still – sharks. It’s a pretty specialized niche for a school that must have tech beyond Jiang Cheng’s wildest dreams to get some of the data they put in their papers.
Maybe that’s why they all have bodyguards, too. There’s virtually one for every Nie, and even the people who aren’t born to the island eventually acquire one if they stay long enough – men and women with no discernable pattern: big and small, fat and skinny, a dizzying array of ethnicities. The only thing the bodyguards seem to have in common is their dark clothing and the fact that they don’t ever talk.
They’re not always there, but – often enough. The Nies just ignore them, for the most part, and even Nie Huaisang, who is easily the most sociable of the lot, just shrugged when they asked about his during one of the rare times when the guy wasn’t around.
“His name’s Aituan,” he said vaguely, but that was about it. Which didn’t really help – who cared about their names? If you wanted to ask about one bodyguard in particular, why not ask about the most notable of the lot - but who didn’t know that Nie Mingjue, his brother and school head and giant, had a somehow even taller woman named Baxia as his bodyguard? Who didn’t know she could punch through a brick wall, as demonstrated shortly after Jin Guangshan had tried to hit on her during one of the academic conferences held by Lanling?
What they wanted to know was why they were there. After all, they were all marine biologists. What in the world did Qinghe have that they were so intent on protecting?
Sharks?
The answer, as Jiang Cheng would soon learn after a truly mind-blowing few weeks trapped on an island without any connection to the outside world due to a fairly awful set of unexpected crises, was, in fact, sharks.
Giant supposedly extinct sharks that had lived for centuries and had even developed the ability to shift into human and half-human forms for their own purposes, who adopted specific humans that they liked to follow around, who apparently spent a lot of time fighting something horribly evil that lived very deep down in crevasses the human world didn’t even know existed.
Except Qinghe, apparently.
“So I’m going to move to Qinghe to fight the kaiju,” Wei Wuxian announced.
“They’re not kaiju,” Nie Huaisang said, wringing his hands. “That’s not exactly accurate –”
“No, no, it’s too late to dissuade me. I’m set on it. Jiang Cheng, are you with me?”
“You bet,” Jiang Cheng said. “Hey, Nie Huaisang, do you think if I asked really nicely, your brother will let me ride his megalodon again?”
“Yeah, Baxia doesn’t mind giving people rides,” Nie Huaisang said. “But –”
“I’m with Nie Huaisang,” Wei Wuxian said, wrapping his arm around him. “I like his xenacanthus just fine.”
“Won’t your schools object…?”
“We’ll call it study abroad,” Jiang Cheng said. “Sign us up for the sharks!”

OKAY. HERE IT IS. IT’S MY ANALYSIS OF OCEANIC CURRENTS IN AZEROTH.
I’m writing this instead of my term paper so it’s that time in the semester.
Anyway, here is my thesis: The climate zones on Azeroth actually make perfect sense when you take into account the devastating ecological impact of the Maelstrom on oceanic currents.

[id: conspiracy board meme]
THE GULFSTREAM.
LISTEN. I’M NOT CRAZY.
I’M FLORIDIAN, I KNOW HOW THE GULFSTREAM WORKS, LISTEN, TRUST ME. The Maelstrom is the key, because it doesn’t just affect the oceanic currents of Azeroth; it IS the oceanic currents of Azeroth.
It begins thus: The Maelstrom drags MASSIVE amounts of icy waters from Northrend, and drags them southwest at tremendous speeds. The part of Kalimdor at exactly the right location and angle to bear the brunt of this is the northeast corner. I wonder what region...oh would you look at that.
Winterspring.
While the speed of the Maelstrom current means that the Northrend waters keep their chill, that current DOES pass directly through the equator; ocean currents are driven by, not immune from, the effects of basic thermodynamics. They would warm at the equator; then, like the real-life gulfstream, the Maelstrom drags this warmer water around to the northeast and along....the western coast of Pandaria, which is oddly tropical considering it’s located almost in the antarctic circle. And then...Zandalar...and then the southwestern coast of the Broken Isles.
Val’sharah. By far the warmest and most tropical region in the Isles.
That’s the primary current pattern, or the “Maelstrom current”.
And now this is where it gets REALLY interesting.
If you refer to the chart, you’ll see that of course, the south-racing warm current splits into two. The Maelstrom captures a lot of water and drags it back around; but not all of it, and that’s a LOT of ocean that was surging southward at speed. Some of it...reaches escape velocity, essentially, and continues on its path.
Fluid dynamics push this warm current westward due to the position of Pandaria. It’s worth noting that I believe this would be the second strongest current on Azeroth, thus, we’re calling it the secondary current or the Southern circle current; the Maelstrom will always be by far the most influential, but due to the speed and relative lack of landmasses to interfere, this east-west current in extreme southern Azeroth is next in line. This will be important later. Take notes.
For now, let’s round out Kalimdor. The current is now far south, and it will cool as it gets around the cape. The main secondary current is still going primarily east-west, but there would be a much weaker, milder current washing up northward and along the coast. This current is very slow compared to the others; it’s essentially just coasting on the momentum and displacement of the stronger currents. This means it has plenty of time to pick up a lot of warm water at the equator around Feralas; and it brings that warm water right up along the western coast.
Thus: Ashenvale, Darkshore, Azuermyst, and Teldrassil. Teldrassil, especially, is at nearly the same latitude as much of Northrend, so what gives with the lush jungle? THE FUCKING GULFSTREAM IS WHAT GIVES.
Incidentally, there’s probably an area of pretty bad storms northeast of Teldrassil, where that warm current pattern would clash with the same secondary pattern of the east-west surge. This clash prevents a similar arctic circle current of cold water from forming in the north. This will also be important later.
Stay with me.
Because we are about to get to the REALLY good stuff.
The TERTIARY current pattern of the northern Eastern Kingdoms. This one, fascinatingly, forms in response to the “pull” of the maelstrom, and the displacement of that mild warm current between western Kalimdor and eastern EK.
(Remember, the world is round. That will be on the test.)
The Maelstrom pulls a lot of water from around Northrend, and it is ASTONISHINGLY powerful. However, the presence of the Broken Isles interferes with this pattern. A lot of water gets trapped behind that landmass. The surge first drags it HARD against the northeast regions--Stormheim, aptly named considering the storms this would trigger. The water is then forced south because it has nowhere else to go, and immediately slams into Kul Tiras from the north; there’s a reason Kul Tiras is a nation of extremely hardy sailors and stormcallers.
Again, the current is forced aside by the islands. Now weaker and slower from the interference but never having dipped south to warm up, it sweeps to the east and along the coast of Lordaeron before being pushed up by the continental shelf, and then--remember how I told you this would be important?--back westward by the swell of warmer water coming up the coast of Kalimdor.
The angle of the tertiary current against Kul Tiras splits it again, much like the secondary current splits off Pandaria; the strait is narrow but there is really quite a lot of water trying to get through there, so it’s either weak (the path of least resistance is after all to glance off to the northeast) or very fast (the water WILL get through, so it has to speed up to make that happen). Either way, once it gets into the sheltered area “behind” Zandalar and Pandaria, it has enough momentum to create a current.
Now it’s in warm equatorial waters, so it starts to heat up. However, it runs up against the southern east-west circle current in the antarctic. This forces the warmer current further north, meaning it never gets quite far enough south to become a “cold” current. Hence, the rich tropics of Stranglethorn, and Stormwind’s mild winters.
Just for bonus points, this warm-ocean current circles back up and through Kul Tiras again, meaning that in addition to the agitated tertiary Northrend current, they ALSO have to deal with a clash of cold and warm-water currents right on top of them.
Is it any wonder Kul Tiran storms are legend?
And, oh yes. One more thing.
Remember how I said the southern circle current was the second most important on the planet? Yup. Because, remember, if it causes warm water to waft up along western Kalimdor, it’s doing the same thing to the eastern EK, because the world is round. And remember how I said the interference to the west of Northrend--the warm current preventing a northern circle current from forming--would be important later?
Without a cold current forcing the milder one south again as happens in the southern tertiary current, warm water is wafted much further North than it would otherwise go, in the extreme east of the Eastern Kingdoms...
...creating the hot summers and mild winters of Quel’thalas.
I will now accept twenty million dollars from Blizzard.

Degrees of Taurus and Naruto characters (namely Sasuke, Itachi and Naruto)
I’ve recently started reading about the meaning and significants of each degree in the birth chart and have decided to utilize my new found knowledge for the purpose of drawing a more accurate chart for Naruto characters.
In this part I’ve focused on the third decan of taurus. I’ve mentioned before that I’m certain Naruto has something in Taurus and Itachi apparently has more than one planet in taurus. We’ve also established that Sasuke has his moon in taurus.
I’ve got these descriptions from the first document that pops up in google when you search taurus degrees meaning.
I’ve only guessed two of Itachi’s taurus degrees, the other probably isn’t in the third decan. Also I have 2 guesses for Sasuke and I’m not sure which one is more accurate.
If you happen to have the same placement as the one I guessed for Itachi (28-29 degrees taurus) don’t take this to heart.
20-21: maybe Itachi
related to poison
It indicates a silent, watchful disposition, inclined to caution, method, and thrift, but liable to assaults from unexpected sources, which will overthrow many carefully designed plans. It is a degree of ANTICIPATION.
A frugal, cautious, watchful, silent and close character bearing the hallmark of individuality, a deep mind, a pitiless logic, a precise and methodic intelligence, more suited for analysis than synthesis. The native will rely but on himself, yet destiny will baffle him with gleeful spite and take a cruel delight in hitting him just where rational logic would rule out failure or even danger. The collapse of his most accurately prearranged plans will tell on the native’s temper, whose guardedness may drift into suspiciousness, and misanthropy into wickedness.
Strategic, self-directed but perhaps egotistical Aries-Scorpio degree - certainly never content to sit, always having a plan, project or alternative waiting in the wings. Can build great accomplishments and find success if temper and lusts are kept under control, and if it can avoid “yes men” and opportunists. Desired to be admired. Sexual attractions often include great sacrifices. Infighter or revolutionary - anarchistic and opinionated. Must develop Libran traits.
A very resourceful sportsman. One whose judgment can be relied upon in estimating values.
Witnessing dispassionately the flow of time. Standing outside of all linear progression and knowing what is likely to happen here. Supremely disengaged from surface affairs, even lightly dismissive of all secondary considerations, but tuned right in to the thread of prophecy and inner vision. Granted a certain grace to follow the inner track. And serving a larger function as part shaman, part seer, and part commonsensical advisor. Salty wit, earthy and pithy, no nonsense. You know where the bones are buried. Penetrating insight. A throwback to simpler worlds. One who warns of dangers ahead, and is not amused by factions and fragments and phantoms of common assumption.
Highly intelligent. Quick, analytical, objective mind. Clear thinking. Strives to understand the larger context, philosophical view, and underlying assumptions of any idea or concept. Interested in economics
Silent, methodical, and clear-sighted character. Sly enemies abound and conceal their real nature while waiting for the moment when they can successfully grab what does not belong to them, be it money or an already married person. Fortunately enough, one displays vigilance and providence, and therefore one is able to avoid the most dangerous traps. If in the natal chart, Saturn is powerful, prudence and concentration capacities are strengthened. With Mars, energy is increased, and with a Venus, kindness is enhanced. In some cases, this degree indicates gifts for occultism or, at least, above-average perceptiveness.
22-23: Sasuke (I personally think this is more likely than the other one)
can lead and inspire but can fail
It signifies one who will suffer misfortune in the height of his career and whose fall will be dangerous in proportion to the height he has attained. The native will be too apt to depend on his own powers and will essay feats which will be beyond his natural powers. Ambition will lead him into dangerous positions, and at a weak moment he will fall. Let this be taken as equally affecting his physical, moral, and social welfare. It is a degree of COLLAPSE.
A great spiritual force, a generous, passionate character whose mind, compared to a large heart, may appear limited. Faith in one’s power is excessive, hence a tendency to overreach oneself by a display of arrogance, weakness, light-headedness and foolhardiness which may head the native for a dangerous fall. This may be taken in the literal sense of bodily falls, as well as in the metaphorical one (financial, social, moral, or spiritual).
Imaginative, irascible: a symbol of individual freedom in motion - Sagittarian wanderings brought down to earth long enough to establish turf and be noticed. Master of human and animal nature. Desire for self-expression and talent to do so. Humorous, optimistic, spiritual, passionate character, which might lead to light mindedness and dangerous risks at times. May make bad choice of partners, but generally fortunate in career.
Great strength of will and if character is also indicated by other testimonies in the chart, one capable of great works. Cruelty in undeveloped types.
Nothing to say, everything to do. The self cannot be articulated because it is far too busily pressed out into emergency mobilization twenty-four hours a day. No personal life, no personal world, no personal self. Just fantastic availability to the call, the collective vigil, entered upon willingly and selflessly. The demands and rigors of this position and stance are punishing and extreme. You are so hard-pressed, so rabidly attentive that nothing else exists. The assignment is clear, brutally so. Be on the spot at every level, maintain order, keep everything going and stay tuned to everything unusual and strange. Follow it out, keep it in your sights and make absolutely sure that you stay sober, integrity sworn and minutely diligent to hold the center and uphold the law with a steadfastness that is beyond belief, and simply true.
first half : A deep sense of his own individuality and nobility. Devoted to family. Searches for a mature, objective, broad understanding of life.
second half: A deep sense of his own individuality and nobility. Vital and energetic, perhaps a reforming or revolutionary spirit. Innovative.
This degree describes a reversal of fortune at the pinnacle of the career. The fall is commensurate with the social status and indicates a risk of dishonour and all kinds of losses. One relies too blindly on one's own strength and undertakes projects without having carefully assessed its assets and weaknesses. The danger of fall also applies to physical accidents, as well as moral and social matters.
23-24: Sasuke
A man, yet one greater than a man! His mission is a world mission, but present conditions will scarcely admit of such a development.
It signifies one who will take his course through useless tracks, and by too much trust in others will suffer depletion. Yea, though all has life long he may minister to the wants of others, yet, in his advancing years, he will be abandoned to the mercy of wayfaring and deceitful men. This illustrates virtue misapplied. It as a degree of DECLINE.
Assuming as we did that no degree of the zodiac can convey any meaning if not looked at in the light of the horoscope as a whole, this rule does not fit any degree so thoroughly as this fifty-fourth degree which has something mysterious, or transcendent, in itself. Should the rest of the pattern be of a spiritual nature, an intense but hidden inner life would be the result. If the other features concur into a majestic picture, the native may have been assigned a mission reaching beyond his country and his age. “At the limit,” to borrow a mathematical expression; that is, in such a cosmically vast and sublime horoscope as can be drawn in the heavens only once in mankind’s history, this degree becomes one among many other components from which, written in star characters; the announcement of the Redemptor’s birth was given.
Daring Leo degree may have a mission from God, or a self-appointed one - or some karmic feeling it must follow. Guilt or ecclesiastical upbringing may create humility or piety, appearing naive, but faithful and a Samaritan - and not likely to do much to insure its own protection or growth. Self- conscious, nervous, superstitious, but goodhearted and blissful-usually. Dedicated and warm, but must not be over-loving ruthless or over-protective.
One who serves and is inclined to be servile. A patient worker who should free himself from the thralldom of others and develop his latent ability.
Thematic worlds coming round again just as before, just like always. The highest and the best, maintained and sustained beautifully, impeccably, superlatively. Knowing inside that what counts, what is essential, is to abide, to be. You are a vast world unto yourself, an extraordinary network of intersecting dynamics. But the witness consciousness is blissfully sitting back in a restful perch, letting everything go by. And in the very center of this dispassion and wakeful scrutinizing, one indwells a Buddha realization attained by hard work in many lives and now being your innermost identity in an identity less way.
Very particular and precise. May be easily irritated when things are not just right. Creative intelligence, capable of original ideas and novel projects.
Generous, helpful, and gullible character. Misplaced confidence results in sufferings and disappointments. One generously shares everything one possesses with less fortunate people. However, on must spare enough resources for oneself, otherwise, one is in danger of falling into the dire poverty which one has helped other people out of. In such a case, no one will come up to lend a helping hand. This degree indicates ingratitude and unrewarded qualities. There may also be eye problems.
24-25: Naruto
This denotes a very mysterious character. Whilst living among men, a stranger to men. He has a life of his own, a world of his own, he is content to live and die unknown (never showing his true self).
It indicates a powerful and haughty nature; one who is disposed to justify himself by force of arms rather than by intrinsic merit. Such a person will make many his servants but few his friends and in the end his state will be a pitiable as that of a dying lion. It is a degree of PRIDE.
The subject’s inner world will stay closed and unknown to all. Yet this is no cowardly nature, rather an arrogant one; the native is innerly proud, haughty, overbearing, but not vain. As he is spiritually isolated among his fellow beings, he will have justice done to himself, if necessary, by having recourse to arms. As he is misunderstood, he will endeavor to have his own way even by resorting to violence; as long as his strength does not fail him, he will see subdued servants around himself, never friends.
Stately Leo and serious-natured Capricorn furnish this degree with cold spirituality, pride, perhaps haughtiness. Arrogant, but with a firm desire to achieve goals and dominate its sphere, hopefully with justice and mercy. Helped by earthly features and mannerisms. Bound by family ties and genealogy; may take up arms of face violence, or may be mean and cruel. Religious dogma- dictatorial. Should be aware of the practical welfare of all people.
One with great mental strength but whose power and ability will be acknowledged only by few. Too advanced for popular acceptance.
The inward image and the outward reflection are worlds apart. Building up inside to a state of being that carries immense challenges. You see your own personal nature as an objective universal force to be reckoned with, and persist in seeing egocentrically. Preferring massively your own company, contained within yourself, imaginatively self-enchanted. Yet also capable of radical turnabouts and rebirths. Awakenings false and true, great and small. Knowing yourself to be somebody special. Self-consciousness enshrined. A dead-end or a path, oblivious or realizing the way of things, getting out of the way or being squarely in the way. Self-importance and its overcoming.
Good sense of balance, tact, sophistication, and harmony in his work and life generally. Progressive, enterprising, active. A good worker in any business or organization.
Assertive, combative, and haughty character endowed with leadership abilities. One prefers forceful means to dialogue and arouses much hatred. One makes the difference between one's few genuine friends and all the numerous flatterers. This degree indicates a risk of violent death or suicide, especially if in the natal chart, it is in conjunction with the Ascendant, the Sun or the Moon, or the ruler of the 8th House. In conjunction with the Part of Fortune, there may be seizure or confiscation of assets."
28-29: Itachi
associated with eye problems
It signifies a tyrant, who takes delight in power apart from its uses, and whose opinions are bigoted and selfish. To rule, without regard to qualifications, is the passing ambition of one born under this degree. Death, which frees the slave, will bind the hands of a tyrant in irons forged from his own heart. It is a degree of DESPOTISM.
Commercial, Venusian, fashion and possession flaunting degree due to Libra here better for females - causes grief for males. Gifted with beauty, believed more than it should - can pick and choose partners and mate who are subjects and followers. Always “right” in its own world, and therefore an unconscious danger to others, apt to take them down paths best left for the foolish, Danger of addictions, Magnetic and proud; good organizer and able administrator.
Too many divergent interest brings a life of confusion. The development of the will is necessary and will bring success in property ownership and development.
Tyrannical, selfish, and fanatic character. There is a strong propensity for debauchery and sexual perversions. One imposes one's narrow-minded ideas to members of the family, friends, and employees, which arouses much hatred. Sooner or later, slaves are freed, and the despot is overthrown. If in the natal chart, the Moon is waxing and in conjunction with this degree, the constellation of the Pleiades promises high social status, fame, and honours, but it also warns against accidents affecting the face, impaired sight, or violent death.
Crystallized imagination. The inside of the inside remembered and evoked whimsically. There is no form, no pattern, no binding reality. Dreaming the world into being from a greatly bemused stance-- other. Twinkling observer-witness consciousness. Off on tangents that call, a life, a cycle, a realm set aside for inventive play without boundaries. You feel exultant in the freedom. Swept away beautifully. Answerable to nobody and nothing except the muse.
Intelligent, original, energetic, self-reliant. Honest and straightforward, sometimes tactless and blunt.

🔍 Complete Guide to Island Reversal Pattern: Spotting Market Turning Points Like a Pro

In the world of technical analysis, few candlestick patterns send as strong a reversal signal as the Island Reversal Pattern. Whether you're trading the Nifty 50, scanning charts of Reliance Industries, or exploring small-cap momentum stocks, understanding this pattern can be your edge in navigating volatile market tides.
If you’ve ever looked at a chart and wondered, “Is this the end of the trend?”, this pattern might just be your answer.

⚡ What Is the Island Reversal Pattern and Why Smart Traders Use It
The Island Reversal is a powerful candlestick pattern that signals a sharp reversal in price direction. It typically forms after a strong uptrend or downtrend when the price gaps away from the current trend, trades briefly on an "island," and then gaps back in the opposite direction.
The result? A clear technical signal that the bulls or bears just lost control.
🎯 Think of it like a price trap—where traders chase momentum, only for the market to flip violently.
📈 The Island Reversal consists of:
A gap in the direction of the trend
A consolidation (or single candle) on an “island”
A gap in the opposite direction
📚 Originally detailed by Steve Nison, the pioneer who introduced Japanese candlestick charting to the West, this pattern is widely discussed in books like Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques.
In India, experienced traders often look for Island Reversals in volatile sectors like IT, pharma, and mid-cap banks, where gap movements are more pronounced.
🧬 The DNA of an Island Reversal: How This Pattern Comes to Life
To truly leverage the Island Reversal, you need to understand what’s happening under the surface.
🔺 In a bullish island reversal, the price gaps down after a downtrend, finds a base (the island), and then gaps up—trapping bears and igniting a rally.
🔻 A bearish island reversal does the opposite—gapping up, consolidating, then gapping down, leaving buyers stranded at the top.
📊 These gaps are usually:
Exhaustion gaps: indicating the end of the current trend
Breakaway gaps: signaling the start of a new trend
🧠 Behind the scenes, market psychology is playing out:
Retail traders chase price
Institutional players wait for liquidity
Then they flip the script, triggering the pattern
With Strike Money, you can easily visualize these gaps using custom templates and set alerts for volume spikes during these gap formations.
📉 Bullish vs Bearish Island Reversal: Spotting the Pattern in Action
Let’s break it down with real examples from Indian markets.
🔵 Bullish Island Reversal – Tata Motors (March 2023) After a sharp sell-off, the stock gapped down around ₹408. For three sessions, it stayed trapped before gapping up above ₹420. This island reversal was followed by a breakout move to ₹470 over the next 10 sessions.
🔴 Bearish Island Reversal – Infosys (April 2022 Earnings Miss) A surprise earnings miss led to a gap-up rally getting quickly reversed by a strong gap-down on the next trading session. Traders using Strike Money’s pre-earnings alerts spotted this and positioned short accordingly.
🎯 Entry Tip: Wait for confirmation with volume spikes and follow-through candle 🎯 Exit Tip: Close when price hits a key resistance/support or volume starts to fade
🧰 Best Indicators to Combine with Island Reversal for Higher Accuracy
📈 The Island Reversal gains real power when confirmed by indicators and volume tools. Here’s how savvy traders in India refine their strategy:
💥 RSI (Relative Strength Index) Look for RSI divergence—price making new lows but RSI not confirming. This adds weight to a bullish island reversal.
🔥 MACD Crossovers A bearish MACD crossover just after a bearish island gap can signal momentum shift.
📶 Moving Averages Island reversals near the 50- or 200-DMA tend to be more reliable. When price returns to the average post-gap, it acts as a magnet for continuation.
Using Strike Money, you can overlay these indicators visually on one screen, set conditional alerts, and even backtest patterns with historical volume context.
📊 Does the Island Reversal Actually Work? Here’s What Backtests Show
⏳ Let’s get to the data. According to a TradingView study conducted in 2021 using Nifty 100 stocks:
✅ Bullish Island Reversal Accuracy: 67% with proper volume confirmation ❌ Bearish Island Reversal Accuracy: 61%, more effective when followed by high open interest changes
In the Indian derivatives space, Bank Nifty shows the highest island reversal activity, especially around F&O expiry weeks.
💡 A 2020 research paper published in the Journal of Financial Markets also highlighted island reversals as a statistically significant anomaly in short-term price action, outperforming random price movements.
Backtest your ideas on Strike Money by selecting custom date ranges and saving strategies for repetition.
🚫 Common Mistakes Traders Make With Island Reversal Patterns
Even seasoned traders fall for traps. Here's how to stay sharp:
❗ Forcing the Pattern Not every gap is an island reversal. It needs clear isolation with symmetrical gaps and volume confirmation.
❗ Ignoring News Catalysts Many reversals are triggered by events like RBI policy updates, corporate earnings, or global cues. These can distort technical setups.
❗ Chasing after the gap Entering after the gap close without confirmation candle leads to whipsaws. Patience matters.
⚠️ Lesson from Zomato IPO Chart: Post-IPO, Zomato showed a bearish island reversal followed by 15% downside. But many traders jumped in without waiting for confirmation, burning capital.
🎯 Use Strike Money’s event-overlay feature to align macro news with technical patterns.
🧪 Real-World Charting: Island Reversals From Indian Equities
Let’s walk through a few live charts where the Island Reversal delivered solid results:
📌 HDFC Bank – July 2023 After the RBI repo rate hike, HDFC Bank showed a clean bullish island. From a low of ₹1490, it reversed and rallied to ₹1625 in 12 trading days. Volume surged post-gap.
📌 Adani Enterprises – February 2023 Post-Hindenburg Report A massive gap-down followed by sideways price, and then a gap-up reversal stunned the markets. Smart traders who caught this reversal profited handsomely from ₹1150 to ₹1450.
🧠 These setups are rare—but when they happen, they telegraph a strong message.
Use Strike Money to set gap-width criteria and auto-highlight potential “islands” with zone markings.
🧭 When to Trust the Island Reversal—and When to Stand Down
🔍 Here's a trader's mindset checklist before placing your bet on an island reversal:
✅ Is the gap symmetrical and isolated? ✅ Is volume surging at the reversal candle? ✅ Do RSI or MACD confirm the shift? ✅ Are major moving averages nearby? ✅ Is there news backing this move?
If more than 3 of these line up—you’re in high-probability territory.
❌ But if it forms on low volume or during holiday weeks, be cautious. Many patterns during such times are false positives.
🛡️ Combine the Island Reversal with your risk management framework: define stop loss, avoid leverage unless confirmation hits, and never bet against trend without solid conviction.
🚀 Start Spotting Island Reversals Today—With Strike Money’s Smart Charts

🧠 In trading, patterns don’t repeat perfectly—but they rhyme. And few patterns rhyme as sharply as the Island Reversal.
🎯 Final Thought: Pattern Recognition Is Not Enough—Execution Is Everything
Understanding the Island Reversal is just the beginning. The edge lies in discipline, timing, and context.
Markets are complex ecosystems—every gap, every candle tells a story. As a trader, your job is to read that story, not just recite the lines.
📈 Learn the pattern. 🎯 Master the confirmation. 🔐 Protect your capital.
The Island Reversal isn’t magic—it’s momentum, logic, and psychology wrapped in a technical signal.
And with Strike Money, you’ve got the tool to bring that signal into sharp focus.

Comments/theories: In Dreams - Homeworld Bound
So I kind of missed the SU:F updates for a bit. ^_^; That said, I'm caught up now, and have some misc. comments that I figured I'd share... before the next eps or two comes out. XD;
...That said, I was actually working on this when I'd heard that Homeworld Bound was out already. -.-; It's on XFinity Stream, at least - and I suspect other streaming services - so I consider it "officially released." I've since adjusted to implement the new info. However, I'm making the comments in an ep-by-ep structure, so if you want to avoid spoilers, you can easily stop once you get here. =3
I'd also like to note that this one's more rambly than usual, so prepare yourself for rambles. XD
EDIT: Some adjustments, mostly additions. EDIT2: Couple more little deets. EDIT3: Few more MAJOR deets. XD;
Just a quick note: my current, primary theory is that, even with everything that seems to be glaringly obvious, White also has the power to alter Gems' memories and such, and Rose was not truly Pink Diamond (or at least, in a sense, not THE Pink Diamond). Lately, I basically think that she may be a sort of a hybrid, or at least that Pink put a lot of herself into Rose... lately I've even suspected that it might be even more literal than I've previously noted... as in, Pink may have prepped some healing tears and broken off a shard of herself... or something. ._.;;;
But yeah, I figured I'd note this in advance because, well... I realize it sounds crazy. It's going to be mentioned, so I ask for a bit of open-mindedness - or at least a willingness to entertain the idea, even if you think it's wrong (and I don't blame you if you do). Frankly, I wouldn't be surprized if a lot of people would have already closed this post before getting to this sentence. (That said, if you're still here, thank you!)
With that out of the way, let's get going!
In Dreams
Okay, so Crewniverse was definitely being self-aware, and using meta-humor. XD
I've commented here before that previous eps had a building feeling of listlessness and whatnot. My sister also has commented (not in a place I can link XD; ) that the opening theme gets more and more jarring with each episode. The both of us think that odds are pretty good that they'll switch to using something the reprise version of the theme. XD; ("Here we are in the future, and it's wrooooong!")
...That said, while things have been getting intense (not to mention REAL!), I do appreciate that we seem to be moving out of "boredom" eps. XD;
The dreams-being-broadcast thing is more-than-likely a bit of setup for later story points. I'm thinking "Emergency broadcast."
On an entirely different note, I like the confirmation that Peridot has green eyes. =3
Been sort of a headcanon of mine for awhile now. ^_^
Also, is it just me, or is Peridot getting taller? 83
Anyway, it's nice to have a bit of lighthearted funtimes in the midst of all the seriousness that has been going on. =3
Bismuth Casual
So... those toilet paper jokes certainly ended up being at an ironic time, right? XD;
Anyway, one of the things that stuck out to me is how increasingly obvious Pearl's obliviousness is.
One of my long-standing theories is that Rose saw Pearl more like a daughter, if anything... and didn't realize - or even have a clue that Pearl had a thing for her.
And I mean, really, if Pearl can't tell whether any human - or Gem - is into her, then how could she know for sure whether or not Rose did (or didn't)? Odds are she's just going by her memories... which I strongly believe to be unreliable, what with how many contradictions they have. ^_^;
Together Forever
(...Does anyone else keep hearing the old Pokémon song by the same name in their head? ^_^; )
...Okay, I'm gonna confess: it actually didn't occur to me that either Steven or Ruby was supposed to be "cute" until it was mentioned in Hit the Diamond and Sadie Killer. (I didn't count Andy saying it in Gem Harvest because I figured he had a family bias. ^_^; I mean, he did make a complete and abrupt 180 about the parts of his plane being recycled, once it was Steven who started using them.)
...Cuteness is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. XD;
I guess I can see how Crewniverse was going for "cute" with Steven... Still, about the only time I've considered "Steven" to be cute - visually or otherwise - was after that last bout of Ultimate Steven tag.
...Yeah, I think that the Gems did the puppy-dog eyes better than Steven did. ^_^; I mean, I would call Steven "sweet," "silly," and a number of other things. Just... "cute" isn't typically one of them for me. ^_^;
That said, there are moments when I think that Ruby is being cute. =3 One of them is when she RAEGING.
Another one is when she's being happy... especially when she's super-excited.
So yeah. =3 For me, it was pretty nice to see Ruby spazzing like that. It's also kind of nice to see Steven eating sweets again... even if it's for unfortunate reasons.
...yeah.
It's also nice to see R+S's new forms. =3
The headband is back! 83
(...Why hasn't there been a mention of Sapphire being cute? She seems like the most obvious choice. XD; )
On another topic... So it’s not just Pearls that can store stuff in their gems? o.O
Anyway, part of my theory is that [Pink is really trapped in the moon base's observation orb], which she can use to see some of what's going on. When Pink is watching, the moon might show up, and/or the sky might turn pink (usually around dawn/dusk) - the more intense either of these things are, the more intensely she's watching.
Looking back at when either of these happen, I've noticed that:
She seems to be a 'shipper
She particularly 'ships Steven + Connie
This ep certainly continues with that pattern. 83 Heck, I think that the extra lights on the horizon might even be from Pink - maybe even intentional on her part.
Even after the turn-down, the moon still showed, BRIGHTLY - at least until Garnet got there.
I also noticed the moon at the end of Little Graduation - in general, I'm getting an impression that Pink has been wanting to help Steven... but obviously, she wouldn't be able to.
However, that said, with the way things are looking, I think that she's going to get her chance, shortly... more on that farther down. =3
Side note: The glowstick-bracelet “ring” is a nice touch. =3
Other side note: JAM BUDS REFERENCE! 83
Also: Strawberry. =3
Also-also: it seems like Garnet actually does tend to give some pretty good love advice.
"Your soulmate is your compliment, not your missing piece. [...] Whatever hole there is in your life, Steven, I want you to understand that Connie - Stevonnie - won't be able to fill it." - Garnet, Together Forever
...Also-also, my suspicions about Garnet sorta being three people keep growing. XD;
...Incidentally, I’ve mentioned before that I think that Connie is probably ace and/or aro (though I didn’t know the latter term at the time).
Growing Pains
On the funny (at least to me) side, I noticed that Dr. Maheswaren checked for Steven’s heartbeat on his right side (which, ironically, would be the wrong side XD).
There actually is a genetic condition that can flip the positioning of the internal organs, though I’m pretty sure that it’s simply an oversight in this case. For one, Dr. Maheswaren shouldn’t think to check there unless she’d checked the usual positioning, first. For another... it’s actually not the only slip up in that shot; Steven’s gem has a hexagonal crown instead of the usual pentagonal one. (This happens a lot, especially on Quartzes.) The biggest thing, however, is that Steven actually does grab the left side of his chest later on.
But yeah, just some stuff that I thought maybe some other people might consider interesting. =3
Anyway...
So it's FINALLY established that Steven has PTSD... and appears to be having panic attacks. Frankly, for a long time, I was under the impression that nothing like this would ever come up. XD;;; Call me crazy, but in a weird way, this is kind of a relief for me. It makes things feel more genuine to me.
...Hmm... I wonder if part of why we haven't seen panic in other characters is because they're hiding their own PTSD? Maybe the reason why so many are just carrying on is as a sort of coping mechanism. Maybe the also don't want anyone to worry.
...Or maybe this is an effect of this being a cartoon. >.>; I mean, as much as I can see that Crewniverse is trying to touch on a lot of hard topics (and I appreciate that), we can only expect it to be so realistic. Plus, a good story needs a bit of balance to it - as nice as it is to see the worrying stuff, it needs a good balance, or else it tends to be overwhelming.
In particular, I've been reminded that SU:F does have a number of much-younger viewers - I think we need to bear in mind that they probably aren't likely to handle this stuff as well as the older audiences. ^_^;
But yeah, I'm definitely glad that at least there's something, and the reaction seems fairly realistic (at least as far as having a half-Gem character goes). Even the fact that there was a delay is fairly realistic... maybe a bit more of a delay than usual, but... I guess Steven is half-Gem?
Also: cartoon. XD;
And of course, it's really fascinating to see the medical aspect of Gems (or a lack thereof).
And of course, the sneaking in of an Amethyst-behavior joke. X3
Also: you can see Steven's chart in two of the transitions. 83
(Assuming Dr. Maheswaren got his height right... I’m actually admittedly jealous that he’s actually taller than me - especially since it looks to me like he should be shorter. XD; )
Also-also: I noticed that a lot of things that had nothing to do with Steven's life being in danger got referenced. ^_^; Granted, I'm sure they're still important to him, but I thought I'd still bring it up.
I also couldn't help but notice there being a direct reference to Adverse Childhood Experiences, which is an actual term. I suppose Steven's are unusual... but whatever the form, ACEs can still be pretty impactful. =/
...I do wonder if Crewniverse knows anything about Childhood Emotional Neglect. It's supposedly an even bigger impact than abuse and whether one recovers from it. That said, AFAIK it's lesser-known - even the term was coined less than a decade ago (2012, if I've got my dates right). It's mentioned on the list of ACEs... I think? But it's not very well defined there, so... it's hard to know.
At any rate, it definitely seems like a thing that could be a factor... more on that farther down.
Mr. Universe
It was nice to see Steven and Greg getting some bonding time in... even if it was short-lived. ^_^;
Can't help but wonder whether or not Steven's eating a veggie burger. XD;
Steven drooling in his sleep... it's been a headcanon/theory of mine that maybe Pink does that. X3
Okay, so maybe this is a cute picture of Steven... now that he's more grown-up. X3
Anyway, It's nice to learn some more about Greg's side of the family. Especially since - aside from the strictness - they really do seem like they're probably nice people.
I mean, for one, they still kept reminders of Greg - his stuff, pictures of the whole fam, and even his letters... even if they never opened them.
(...Is it just me, or does Greg's mom look an awful lot like Connie's?)
And based on their stuff, I think it's pretty likely that they at least have a gentle side... even if maybe they didn't know how to properly use it with Greg. XD; (Or maybe they're simply an appearance-conscious family. ^_^; ...Which is apparently considered a gaslighting type of parenting-style. =/)
In any case, I hope we meet them, later. =3 Maybe they've mellowed out... or maybe they will as soon as they meet Steven. X3
My sis pointed out that Dear Old Dad plays - as in, the song from the last ep Steven and Greg fought in. Only this time, it didn't end out well. ^_^; Quoth her, "That's some next-generation foreshadowing!"
But yeah, I can see why Greg might be so frustrated at his parents that he would want to change his surname. ^_^; ...And I can also see why Steven would be upset at Greg going as far as he did. =/ Pendulum effect: being so upset by one extreme that you go just as far into the other extreme, and it sounds like Steven paid for it. -.-;
This is part of what I mean by Childhood Emotional Neglect potentially being a factor... though in general, Greg's hands-off parenting style could very well fit in as a form of emotional neglect - parents who are just kind of buddies and try to give comfort on everything kind of avoid a lot of the issues, instead of teaching their kids how to deal with them, including on an emotional level. ^_^;
But yeah, the fact that Greg apparently didn't consider whether Steven might still want some of the usual aspects of childhood seems like it could also count. ^_^; At the very least, it's common for Well-Meaning-But-Emotionally-Neglected-Themselves parents to give their kids what they wish they had in childhood, without actually considering whether it's what the children themselves want.
It's also common for emotional neglect to be passed on through families in ways such as this, so... seems like it could be a thing.
Oh, and you know how Steven also had to be "the adult" for the Gems a lot? That also counts as CEN. XD; Heck, that link even mentions the need to care for others that Steven continues to struggle with.
The parts about Steven trying to hide his struggles would also fit in with CEN, though his knowledge of emotions - and vocabulary thereof - does seem to be pretty big. I can't help but wonder if CEN is something that's being inserted in more as a retcon, but wasn't planned at the beginning. I mean... CEN was just being figured out around the time that the original SU series came out, so it seems pretty unlikely that it was the original plan. I could see Crewniverse trying to work it in now, though.
...It's also possible that it's not really what they're going for and that it's sort of included by accident. XD; I mean, there's often more than one way to arrive at the same conclusion, even coming from the same set of information, at times.
But yeah, CEN is important to me, and it's nice to see that it might be a part of the show. =3
Fragments
Okay, so that first convo was chock-full of examples on what NOT to say to someone who’s panicking. ^_^;
And those are just a few of them. ^_^;
I think that this is probably foreshadowing, and/or a setup for something coming shortly. More on this farther down.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who was thinking back to Why So Blue? XD;
(Or, belatedly, Strong in the Real Way.)
I do think Jasper has kind of a point about learning to control anger by using it. All-in-all, though, I think she's only about half-right. ^_^; The parts about using it solely in violence... yeah
I see Steven’s eating fish, again. =3
It’s also neat to see him chopping wood with his hands. X3
...Not to mention Jasper’s new helmet. 83
It looks to me like Pink might have noticed some training, or at least may have been looking around the area.
...I suspect that she doesn't know about all the details, though. ^_^;
Homeworld Bound
Okay, first off, I think that Garnet may have said the family thing for Future Vision reasons - probably related to what the Diamonds said, even if she doesn't know that.
And now that that's out of the way, I was really glad to see Spinel again. =3
It does seem a bit weird that she's around as tall as Steven when she was shorter than him in the movie.
And I'm pretty sure that Steven's gotten even taller since the movie. XD; Though maybe Yellow made Spinel taller...?
EDIT: I remembered that she probably wouldn’t be the first. Could be a pattern.
Anyway, I also like the confirmation that Yellow's and Blue's powers seem to be about affecting the forms of Gems, and their emotions, in general - I've made a little spreadsheet (vaguely) touching on stuff like that, before.
Also, Blue getting a full song of her own. Plus, the implications that Blue's powers are probably water-related. =3
(Who wants to try one of Blue's happy clouds? *raises hand* =D)
Not to mention Spinel doing the hammock hair thing. X3
*ahem* However... this is the second time one of the eps has felt like it's been full of Gems that are more-or-less hypnotised (the first one being Familiar). A little too happy and/or nonchalant, and a little too conclusion-jump-ish. =/ (Especially Yellow for that last one. XD; ) Steven's even pointed stuff like this this out.
Which... White acted also that way. If she really does have mind control powers, I think that this might be a sign that she's still using them, even on Blue and Yellow. ^_^;
Another thing that I think is odd is that the Diamonds were all taking initiative in doing good stuff. In the movie, it seemed pretty clearly like they were only doing good things in order to try and please Steven and get him to stay with them.
White in particular was still disgusted at the idea of thinking of others as “equal.” XD;
They were even willing to move to Earth, leaving all those hurt Gems behind, instead of trying to do anything for them. =/
And yet, despite all that, Spinel in particular felt a little too weird to me (somehow XD; ). A little too unconcerned about Steven's feelings, a little too relaxed and... blissful? ^_^; She actually handwaved the "embarrassing" issue of having tried to kill Steven.
This is the second time we've seen something like this. =/
In a way, maybe Spinel's a little too close to her original personality, in general - as in, maybe less "healed" and more "reverted." =/
I mean, it's only been... a few months? If I understand correctly? Difficult thoughts and such do not just evaporate like that - ESPECIALLY if they're more-or-less intrusive ones. =/
And a lot of the time, it seems like her voice and intonation is closer to what she had with her original personality. ...It does seem kind ambiguous, though I suspect that that’s on purpose. XD;
Here's what I think to be the kicker, though: you know the song she started singing when Steven asked how she stopped having vengeful thoughts?
It's the same song that Spinel said had said would NOT make everything better. XD;
"Just can it, won't ya?! You can't just make everything better by singing some STUPID SONG!" - Spinel, SU Movie
(Incidentally, I noticed that the moon actually did show up - rather obviously - during said song. Whoops. ^_^; It looks like Pink has probably seen Spinel’s “evil” form, after all.)
Also... Quite honestly, the way Spinel mentions not getting vengeful thoughts anymore makes her seem... "drugged" to me. ^_^;
Possibly-similarly... this line seems odd to me.
For Spinel to tell Steven that White's powers work in reverse, she'd have to know:
How White's powers worked in the first place
That Steven knows how White's powers worked in the first place
I mean, I guess it's not impossible that White's powers are/were common knowledge, but... I dunno. XD; It would have to mean letting Gems know that White could control them outright... and that White had used her powers on Steven's friends. ^_^; I guess it's also possible that this was told to Spinel as a way of trying to bond over/help with the "tried to kill Steven" thing but... yeah, again, I dunno. ^_^; If that were the case, it's possible that Spinel would mention it, rather than bursting out into song.
At any rate, I'm not ruling out mind-affecting as a possible reason for her knowledge.
So... yeah. I suspected that White acted the way she did when seeing Spinel because Spinel knew (or otherwise had) something that White wanted to be kept hidden. I kind of suspected that poor Spinel would get hit by White's powers pretty much right away, and to me, it looks like she did, and was placated a la mind-control. =(
Speaking of White... I'm guessing that the "pink-colored White" in the intro was actually Steven controlling her, or something. ^_^;
If so, then that's interesting twist on what's considered a "danger"...
...though that said, it looks like White managed to shed the pinkish tinge she had in the movie.
Now it seems to depend on the lighting, and is a fair bit fainter.
(Upper pic: purple. Lower pic: brown.)
So... that said, I wouldn't rule out that maybe she found a way to keep the pink from getting worse - heck, maybe that's even one of the reasons why she's letting Gems control her, briefly. Maybe it somehow keeps the pink from growing more saturated, or something.
So... yeah, while I think there's a good chance that the foreshadowed "Pink White" is already touched on, I'm not entirely ruling out that it might still be coming. I mean, the theory that I was going with was that [Rose's gemstone had a virus in it], that Pink made specifically for White. Possible circumstances to trigger the virus include:
Removing Rose's gemstone from whoever Rose’s child would be
Touching Rose's gemstone, in general
Trying to remove Rose from her gemstone - especially if from her child
Mind- and memory-manipulation on Rose's gemstone, in general
It's also possible that more than one trigger was programmed in.
Possible reasons for a virus include:
Trying to force White to learn empathy
Exposing White
In case the worst more-or-less happened
Prankage
Though yeah, if Rose's/Steven's gemstone really does have a virus in it, or something, I think odds are that White letting Steven control her is going to accelerate it. XD;
Also thought I'd note: while Spinel!White accurately reflects the colors of Spinel, Steven!White seems to better resemble Pink Steven than Pink Diamond, or Rose.
...Don't wanna dig up comparison pics, but I still thought I'd bring it up. XD;
Anyway, I can't help but wonder if there's some sort of deeper meaning to the scene with giant!Steven controlling little!White - like if there's something from Pink slipping in there, and her frustrations with whatever White did to her in the past.
I mean... Steven mentioned "everything" she did to him, and there were only flashbacks of stuff from Change Your Mind. Which... yeah, sure, a lot happened in a short period of time, but... I still wonder. ^_^;
Aaaand it's becoming pretty evident that whatever traces of Pink are in Steven are coming out pretty strongly.
...On another note, the softer "Pink" hairstyle that Steven is getting might be a hint that the more-solid, five-lump "Steven" style that Pink is sometimes shown with is not her actual style. ;3
(My personal belief is that her appearance in Jungle Moon accurately reflects what she looks like - everything else is probably tainted by memory-alteration a la White.)
...anyway...
My guess(es) on what's next
Okay, I was previously assuming that Steven would first fight the worm-thing (which I thought might have been a mutated Jasper, after getting all that essence-of-Diamond in one dose XD; ). I was also speculating about White having turned a much-more-intense shade of pink, accusing Steven of it, and a fight breaking out between the two (with a note that it might be a good thing that Steven's learned to better control his Diamond powers =D; ).
Now it’s looking like the “Pink White” may have already been covered... or maybe it’s still being foreshadowed. Hard to say at this point.
That said, I think there's still a good chance that White will still try to follow Steven for one reason or another, despite his plea not to. I mean, it looks like she may have genuinely been impacted by what happened with Steven controlling her... or at least terrified. XD;
She still asked him to wait, despite that.
Steven did leave his shoe behind, a la Cinderella. This could be a hint about someone following him and returning it to him. Maybe there'll be something about it fitting after he's calmed down? =3
Though... yeah. Maybe letting Steven puppet her will result in her turning pink and coming after him for it. Or maybe White will still try to follow out of more a compassionate reason - or just to “fix him, like she’s apparently done with so many other Gems XD - and Steven will try to keep her away.
In any case, I’m thinking that odds are that Steven will end up getting in a fight with What, and that it will end up being on Earth, at least at some point during the struggle. If so, I tend to imagine something like this happening:
If Pink observes a fight between the two, it might be enough for the moon + sky thing to trigger in broad daylight. If so, then the fact that there's someone on the moon who can turn the sky pink will be impossible to miss. XD Even if it's not a fight that does it, I think odds are good that something like that will be how Pink being up there would be revealed, as well as working as a quick explanation that the moon + sky color are actually important.
If something like that does happen, then I think that White will finally fess up about messing with Gems' memories + thoughts and imprisoning Pink in the orb. I mean... she'd basically be backed into a corner. It also seems like she's getting to a point where she'd consider telling Steven anyway - just maybe she'd freak out and back out first, and/or the sky would beat her to it. XD;
I've also considered that maybe Steven's powers would get strong enough that he could be contacted by Pink in his dreams, anyway - they're not mutually-exclusive, so maybe both will happen?
But yeah. There's plenty of evidence of a moon prisoner, and plenty of that evidence highly suggests that it's Pink. I know I always say this, but I think it's time - maybe even well-past-time XD; - for Pink to be released.
A few possible roles of Pink (plus rambles)
Think about it: just about everyone that Steven knows - or is close to, at least - has been failing him in one way or another. No one seems to know what's the best way to help him, or even fully understand just what exactly he might be going through - even White said that no one would be able to relate to him... but I don't think that's fully true.
Sure, maybe nobody could easily, and/or fully relate to the half-human thing, but I think there's a chance that, say, Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth could at least help with the "vengeful thoughts" thing.
But Pink, Pink could probably help with the powers, and maybe a few other things. I mean, they're probably her powers - or at least a variation of them. Heck, she may be even more powerful than Steven is. XD If anyone could help Steven get things under control, Pink can.
Heck, maybe Pink even knows how to help calm down somebody who’s having a panic attack - or at least knows how to help Steven with his panic. Given that nobody else seems to know about this, it seems pretty likely that it might be what Crewniverse is going for. =3 And hey... if nothing else, maybe it’s something she picked up just from watching the Earth for so long. (I mean... if she’s really been stuck for 5,000 years, odds are that she’s picked up on a few things. Not like she’d have an awful lot else to do, anyway. XD; )
I admit... it’d be a little extra cool to me since I’ve had the idea that it might be something that Pink would do. 83 Sort of a headcanon/fanfic idea that I never really got to or anything. XD;
But yeah, at this point, I think odds are good that Steven will more-or-less beg Pink to stay with him for awhile. XD
I mean... maybe they could ask Pink Pearl (I really don't like the name "Volleyball," sorry XD; ) about Steven’s powers, but I think she might still have too much trauma of her own over Pink's powers to really be able to help. ^_^;
...Though that said, I've suspected that White placated her, too. If her traumas can still show through... I think odds are good that others' traumas will end up resurfacing - and thus being addressed - too. =3
...But yeah, it seems like White's MO involved making everyone just forget about things, and/or suddenly become happy. ^_^; ...Another form of emotional neglect, I suppose.
I also it's possible that part of the reason why Steven is having trouble is because White did something to him. =/ I mean, if White really did remove whatever was left of Rose, then she may have removed an important part of Steven... and if she added something to him, it might be a big part of why he's so... unstable. -.-;
...Heck, maybe the reason why Steven's been getting white Diamond-pupils is because White did something to him. o.O Maybe that why Steven!White has them, too, despite Spinel!White having black pupils.
At any rate, maybe the real Pink could shed some light on that, too. ...And/or maybe White will fess up. XD; I think the latter is much, much more likely in this case, though.
I do think that, once Pink is released, it's likely to result in a lot of chaos, on account of Gems learning that things aren't how they thought they were - just one of many reasons why I think that White has still left her in there. ^_^; However, that said, maybe Pink could end up being a catalyst in bringing those problems to the surface, so that they can be addressed. XD;
But yeah. Overall, I think one of her roles would be in healing... just like with Rose, Steven, and their powers. I think she'd also be good for helping uncover the truth of what really happened, along with other things.
Could be ironic; it's Steven Universe: Future, but there might end up being a lot of looking at the past. Granted, maybe that's the point: look to the past to better understand the future. =3
