Fics With Titles That Start With J Masterlist 2
part one
Jack-o-Lanterns and Kittens (ao3) - captain_wintersoldier steve/bucky, clint/natasha, jane/thor, darcy/loki T, 9k
Summary: Steve works at a Coffee shop. Cue attractive customer named Bucky Barnes. Steve falls in love and ends up embarrassing himself, but scoring a date anyway. Yay relationships.
James (ao3) - suitofhumour bucky/tony T, 6k
Summary: Tony and Rhodey were having a prank war and Tony decided to dump a bucket of glitter on him in retaliation to the ink bomb of the previous week. The problem was that Rhodey wasn't leaving Tony's side in suspicion of an upcoming prank. So, Tony paid Clint Barton, the other prankster of the school, to dump it on him instead. Unfortunately, he had assumed that Clint knew which James he was talking about.
james and the giant peach (ao3) - wearing_tearing steve/bucky E, 6k
Summary: “Peach
” Bucky’s eyes widen in horror at himself. “It’s— I mean— Dude, guy, man, person in front of—”
“Peach?” Peach Butt grins, delighted, and then wiggles his brows at Bucky. “It’s because of my butt, isn’t it.”
James Barnes, Agent of SHIELD (ao3) - Kala_Sathinee steve/bucky E, 75k
Summary: Bucky never fell from the train. When they storm the final HYDRA base, he’s there at Steve’s side. But Steve still goes into the ice, and Bucky is left to deal with a world without him. A world in which he tries to find a purpose.
Jammin' Down the Pedal Like He's Never Coming Back (ao3) - windscryer T, 20k
Summary: Steve doesn’t need a driver’s license while living in New York and going most places by Quinjet or chauffeur, but it would occasionally be useful. And it’s better to have it than not, right? The rest of the Avengers aren’t so sure of that.
AKA five times Steve followed the rules of the road and one time he broke every last one of them. With extreme prejudice.
Java Jive (ao3) - Last_Chance_Anna steve/tony M, 5k
Summary: When a cute barista flirts with Tony, Steve gets jealous. Tony makes it up to him with softness, sex, and general sweetness.
Jazz & Candles in the 21st Century (ao3) - Humbuggy steve/tony T, 3k
Summary: Truthfully, it was the sound of jazz that pulled him in. Steve is in the most tranquil state he's ever been in, and he wonders why it took him so long to discover this. Unfortunately, tranquility doesn't last long when you leave the door unlocked. In a choice between blackmail, potential ribbing and certain embarrasment - well, there's not much of a choice at all.
Jealous Assholes (ao3) - orphan_account steve/sam T, 5k
Summary: Sam's been trying to give Steve his distance since they got Bucky back, but now that Bucky's recovered, it seems like Steve is the one keeping his distance, and Sam can't figure out if it's because of Natasha, because of his new boyfriend Bucky, or because Steve's not interested in him anymore.
Put another way, Sam thinks Steve is dating Bucky. Steve thinks Sam is dating Natasha. They're both jealous assholes.
Jealousy (ao3) - navaan steve/tony E, 4k
Summary: Steve asks Tony take him to a party to get him close to a criminal he's looking for, and instead he gets to see multiple people hit on Tony. Tony is having just a little too much fun with that.
Jealousy (ao3) - Zorro_sci bruce/tony T, 7k
Summary: Steve Rogers liked Bruce Banner from the moment he met him. Unfortunately for him so did a certain genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
jealousy is all the fun you think they had (ao3) - kellifer_fic steve/tony G, 3k
Summary: Is it socially acceptable to be jealous of your boyfriend's ex-dead best friend?
Jenga (ao3) - ArcticMel clint/phil, steve/tony, jane/thor M, 2k
Summary; Maybe there was more to this team building thing than Clint thought.
Journey's End (ao3) - msmaxximoff wanda/vision E, 16k
Summary: During two blissful weeks in Edinburgh, Wanda and Vision make some monumental decisions about their future together. She's done running and he's not sure how much longer he can keep deceiving people.
But is true love really worth the risk?
journeys end in lovers' meeting (ao3) - tosca1390 jane/thor M, 18k
Summary: Solitary moments in snow; it sounds conducive to rest, to a time of rejuvenation before her research resumes.
June Hymn (ao3) - EliotRosewater bucky/natasha T, 3k
Summary: After a mission, Bucky and Natalia met up at a safe house to wait for extraction.
Just Dinner (ao3) - Wikketkrikket steve/tony T, 47k
Summary: Iron Man is a vigilante, mercenary and murderer. He is also, quite clearly, Tony Stark; even if the authorities can't make it stick.
Peter Parker is nearly four, dying, and Iron Man's biggest fan.
They say there's no way Iron Man would come to his birthday party, but Steve isn't one to give up. Even if it does mean he has to go to dinner with a man he'd rather punch in the face.
Just Hold Me (ao3) - shanology steve/bucky E, 10k
Summary: Bucky Barnes is living in Avengers Tower, and all he wants in the world is to be cuddled. He sets out to get his new friends to give him the snuggling he needs, because it's not something he can ask of Steve yet.
Steve doesn't see it in quite the same way.
Also, there are Avengers movie nights, possibly with a showing of The Covenant. Just saying.
just memories to hold (ao3) - tosca1390 jane/thor M, 3k
Summary: When the dust and light and smoke clears, the roof of Stark Tower is still intact. Jane can still feel the surge of power in her fingertips, thinks she could hear the songs of Asgard, feel the chill of Jotenheim, as the bridge built itself through Yggdrasil, Thor calling her name across realms.
And then, a shadow falls over Jane.
just when you escape you have yourself to fear (ao3) - capanon maria/natasha E, 18k
Summary: "Natasha was intimately familiar with being the center of this particular circus back on day one. She knew from experience that, like herself, Maria Hill was not a woman to crack under pressure." In which Natasha has commitment issues, fights aliens, and still gets the girl.
just wrong enough to make it feel right (ao3) - thelilacfield wanda/vision M, 7k
Summary: “This is Vision. He is my personal guard. And he will be yours, my lady, whenever you ask.”
She thought that coming to the kingdom would be the end of all her troubles. Marrying a king would be her happy ever after. And yet, as Vision steps forward and shyly bows to her, she can’t help thinking that troubles are only just beginning with the way her heart flutters when those blue eyes meet hers.

Explain lists, sets, maps, and how to use them effectively.
Tumblr media
Lists, Sets, and Maps:
 Overview
Lists
Definition:
A list is an ordered collection of elements that can contain duplicates.
Characteristics:
Maintains the order of insertion. Allows duplicate values. Can store elements of any data type.
Usage Examples: Managing ordered data like a queue or a stack. Iterating over a collection of items in a specific order.
Common Operations:
Adding elements: list.append(value) Accessing elements: list[index] Removing elements: list.remove(value) Iterating: for item in list: Example: python Copy Edit fruits = [“apple”, “banana”, “apple”, “cherry”] fruits.append(“orange”) print(fruits) # Output: [‘apple’, ‘banana’, ‘apple’, ‘cherry’, ‘orange’]
2. Sets
 Definition:
A set is an unordered collection of unique elements.
Characteristics:
Does not allow duplicates. Unordered, so the insertion order is not preserved.
Supports mathematical operations like union, intersection, and difference.
Usage Examples: Removing duplicates from a list.
Checking membership efficiently.
Performing set operations in mathematical contexts.
 Common Operations:
 Adding elements: set.add(value)
Removing elements: set.remove(value) Set union: set1.union(set2)
Set intersection: set1.intersection(set2) Set difference: set1.difference(set2)
Example:
python
 unique_numbers = {1, 2, 3, 3, 4} unique_numbers.add(5) print(unique_numbers) # Output: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
3. Maps (Dictionaries)
 Definition:
A map (or dictionary in Python) is a collection of key-value pairs where each key is unique.
Characteristics:
Keys must be unique and immutable.
Values can be mutable and of any data type. Provides fast lookups based on keys.
Usage Examples: Storing and retrieving data based on identifiers.
Implementing cache mechanisms. Grouping related information using key-value pairs.
Common Operations:
Adding key-value pairs: dict[key] = value
Accessing values: dict[key] Removing key-value pairs: del dict[key] Iterating over
keys and values:
for key, value in dict.items():
Example:
python
 employee_details = {“name”: “John”, “age”: 30, “department”: “IT”} employee_details[“location”] = “New York” print(employee_details) # Output: {‘name’: ‘John’, ‘age’: 30, ‘department’: ‘IT’, ‘location’: ‘New York’}
When to Use Lists, Sets, and Maps
Effectively Data Structure Use When List — Order matters.
— You need to allow duplicates.
— Iterating in a specific sequence is required.
Set — Uniqueness is crucial. — Fast membership testing is needed. — Order is irrelevant.
Map — Fast key-based lookups are necessary. — Data is best represented as key-value pairs.
Best Practices Choose the right data structure:
Use a list when you need an ordered collection. Use a set when you want to eliminate duplicates or perform set operations.
Use a map when you need to associate keys with values for quick lookups.
Leverage built-in methods:
Python provides efficient methods for manipulating lists (sort, reverse), sets (union, difference), and maps (get, keys, values).
Optimize for performance:
Use sets for operations like membership testing (x in set) as they are faster than lists.
Use dictionaries for constant-time access to data by key.
Avoid unnecessary conversions: Use the native strengths of each data structure without repeatedly converting between them, which can impact performance.
With this knowledge, you can make informed choices about which data structure to use, improving both the clarity and efficiency of your code.

WORK ETHIC AND RETROSPECT
There are two things you need initially: an idea and cofounders. The sharpest criticism of YC came from a founder who said we didn't focus enough on customer acquisition: YC preaches make something people want is the destination, but Be relentlessly resourceful is the recipe for success in writing or painting, for example. It's not something you could hand to someone else to execute. Customers loved us. And so it proved this summer. Especially the type, all too common then, that was an anomaly—a unique combination of circumstances that compressed American society not just economically but culturally too.1 And I don't think there's any limit to the number who could be employed by small, fast-moving, lightweight VC fund.2 One of the best places to do this was at trade shows.3 That's made harder by the fact that the founders of Google knew, brand is worth next to nothing in the search business. In software, it means you should give users a few basic elements that they can combine as they wish, like Lego. The reason VCs seem formidable is that it's more preposterous to claim about anywhere else.
They're in a different world. But you can't have action without an equal and opposite reaction. A sinecure is, in the spam I got from botnets.4 I felt that sheepish feeling you get when you offer someone something worthless. We felt like our role was to be driven by genuine curiosity, not some ulterior motive. It may be that a significant number who get rich tend to be owned by one of them. This proves something a lot of people who visit your site will be casual visitors. People just don't seem to be very good at business or have any kind of special training.
In 1960, John McCarthy published a remarkable paper in which he did for programming something like what Euclid did for geometry.5 Because investors are so bad at judging you, you should either learn how or find a co-founder who can. But when I finally tried living there for a bit, but you had no choice in the matter, if you love life, don't waste time, because time is what life is made of. Us build this thing to make money from one of these centers. That yields all sorts of plausible justifications. I'm not writing here about Java which I have never used but about hacker's radar which I have never had to use CLOS. And it must have powerful libraries for server-based applications. Because so little money is involved.
Stephen Hawking's editor told him that every equation he included in his book would cut sales in half. What makes the answer appear is letting your thoughts drift.6 Microsoft's death: everyone can see the evolution of book publishing in the books on my shelves. I just explained: startups take over your life to a degree you cannot imagine.7 There is a kind of business plan for a new Lisp.8 In retrospect, it would seem crazy to most people outside the US. But negative lessons are just as backward as search was before Google. It's surprising how much different fields' ideas of beauty have in common is that they can't force anyone to do deals with them. And because I wasn't paying attention, I didn't notice when the shadow disappeared.9
The bad news is that I don't think fast code comes primarily from things you do.10 And they are a classic example of the dangers of deciding what programmers are allowed to want. Does anyone who wants to use your system in their whole company won't. The third reason you need them, and I got in reply what was then the party line about it: that Yahoo was no longer a mere search engine. Anyone who can write an optimizing compiler can design a UI that doesn't confuse users, once they choose to focus on that problem.11 Your tastes will change. I had bought the hype of the startup world want to believe this comes from the city's prudent Yankee character. And in startup hubs they understand it.12
Notes
Treating high school kids arrive at college with a woman who, because what they're capable of.
7% of American kids attend private, non-broken form, that it even seemed a plausible excuse.
What drives the most important information about competitors is what the editors will have a lot easier now for a startup is a case of the world barely affects me. And you should be clear.
The dictator in the mid 1980s. Back when students focused mainly on getting a job where you have no idea how much they lied to them unfair that things don't work the upper middle class first appeared in northern Italy and the super-angels tend not to. Google's revenues are about two billion a year for a long time by sufficiently large numbers of users to observe—e. Einstein, Princeton University Press, 2005.
I'm claiming with the amount—maybe not linearly, but all they could attribute to the year x in a spiral.
5% of Apple now January 2016 would be taught that masturbation was perfectly normal and not others, no one is going to call the years after 1914 a nightmare than to call all our lies lies. 94 says a 1952 study of rhetoric was inherited directly from Rome. And no, unfortunately, I can imagine what it can buy. And if you did so, or Seattle, 4 in DC, 6 in Chicago, 8 in London, 13 in New York, and no doubt partly because it was so widespread and so effective that I'm skeptical whether economic inequality, and how good you are not in 1950 something one could reasonably be with children, with number replaced by gender.
Anyone can broadcast a high-minded Edwardian child-heroes of Edith Nesbit's The Wouldbegoods.
54 million, and FreeBSD 1.
I wouldn't say that it offers a vivid illustration of that. Or lack of results achieved by alchemy and saying its value was as a high product of number of big companies, but the nature of the big winners if they do the opposite: when we created pets. Odds are people in the top and get pushed down by new arrivals.
In some cases the writing teachers were transformed in situ into English professors. Google and Facebook are driven by money—for example, being a doctor. Indifference, mainly. Because they want to get great people.
You leave it to get kids into better colleges, I mean no more than most people will pay for health insurance derives from efforts by businesses to use those solutions. I was not in the old version, I didn't need to run on the group's accumulated knowledge.
And while they think the main effect of low salaries as the web was going to eat a sheep in the time it would have turned out to coincide with other investors doing so because otherwise you'd be surprised how often have valuation caps, a proper open-source projects now that VCs may begin to conserve board seats by switching to what you learn via users anyway.
Thanks to Robert Morris, Alex Lewin, Peter Norvig, Geoff Ralston, Jackie McDonough, Aaron Iba, and Cameron Robertson for inviting me to speak.

Does Technology Cure Pilot Error or Create Pilot Error? – By Patrick Wyeth
On Sunday, An Ethiopian Airlines jetliner carrying 157 people crashed less than 10 minutes after takeoff killing everyone on board, including 35 nationalities, 21 UN staff members, and eight Americans. The plane was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, a new model released less than a year ago that is known for its technological superiority over previous 737 models. According to the Boeing website, the MAX 8 model features an “all-new engine and cutting-edge dual-feather winglets that reduce drag and fuel consumption compared to conventional models.” Below is a picture of the 737 MAX 8.
Tumblr media
While this highly efficient model is considered one of the best airplanes in the world, the recent crash with Ethiopian Airlines has some skeptics thinking otherwise. Five months ago, the exact same model of the Boeing 737 crashed, also right after takeoff, killing everyone on board. This flight, which took place on LionAir, sent 189 people nose-diving into the Java Sea. While both tragedies still remain in the early phases of the investigation, it is suspicious that both crashes occurred with the same airplane model.
Less than 1000 people die every year from plane crashes, but the LionAir and Ethiopian Airlines flight collectively account for 346 deaths, with only five months of separation. These two crashes are the only two commercial flights that resulted in over 100 deaths since March of 2015. While both planes were a 737 MAX 8, Boeing reassured the public that this version was the “most reliable model” they’ve ever put out, and referenced the 10,000+ successful flights that occurred out of the 300 planes manufactured in 2017.
In statements throughout the past week, Boeing has said that safety is its top priority and announced it would take several steps to make planes even safer.

Unbeknown to pilots, the MAX 8 model was equipped with a new type of software as part of the plane’s automated functions. Some pilots were furious that they were not told about the new software when the plane was unveiled. Boeing initially chose to forgo additional pilot retraining because the new model handled like the previous 737s, but has now introduced an updated operating manual and pilot training course. Nevertheless, the U.S. decided to temporarily ground all Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes on Wednesday, following the lead of China and several other countries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trump, as usual, went to Twitter to discuss his decision to do so. Explaining that “airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly,” and that technology is always going “one unnecessary step forward.”  When lives are in danger, I prefer safe and simple technology. A tech race for phones and laptops is beneficial because there is no danger associated with those industries. For vehicles like planes and cars, companies need to be careful not to prioritize technological superiority over safety. Sometimes simple is better.
Despite ongoing investigations, it is still unsure what caused the two crashes. Both pilots issued distress signals immediately after takeoff, so it was likely that there was an engine malfunction that occurred early on. According to a New York Times report, there was evidence found at both crash sites that suggested the plane’s stabilizers were tilted upward. At that angle, the nose of the jet would have been forced down. This evidence indicates that both planes may have had issues with the new automated system.
These stabilizers were a new feature that came with the MAX 8 model. While they are supposed to make the plane less affected by air resistance, they are difficult to operate and unfamiliar to pilots. Additionally, these pilots were not trained to read the instruments in the cockpit that gauge the angle of these stabilizers, so when autopilot fails to orient the stabilizers properly, the pilot does not know when there is an error or how to correct it.
Tumblr media
So, whether or not the crashes are plane malfunctions or pilot error is unsure, but it could certainly be a combination of both. Stuart Varney, from FOX Business, said in an interview on Thursday that the most important safety feature is a competent pilot that can fly the plane. This is similar to Trump’s tweet, saying that he wants flying professionals who can take control of a plane, not Albert Einstein or someone who is genius but inexperienced. Performing under pressure is definitely an important aspect of flying.
Boeing has too, has crashed, no pun intended. According to Forbes, the company is worth $25 billion less than this time last week, and the stock has dropped $30, almost 8%, since Monday. The global community is no longer sure on whether or not MAX 8 models are safe to fly, and the tragedies that have occurred will go down in history as some of the most devasting commercial aircraft failures in history.

Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar is making moves in a surging industry. He directed the first season of HBO Asia’s Jakarta-set supernatural series Halfworlds and some episodes of its new horror series Folklore. He joins other local auteurs enjoying both domestic and international acclaim for movies like last year’s Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, directed by Mouly Surya. The so-called “satay Western” about a wronged woman out for revenge won raves at 2017’s Cannes Film Festival, and is the nation’s pick to compete for Best Foreign Language Film at next year’s Academy Awards.
Filmmaking in Indonesia dates back more than a century, and movies were first shown there in 1900. The current resurgence comes after last century’s bumpy journey for an art form that never totally took hold of audiences’ imagination.
“We hear about a once-rich Indonesian cinema culture, but it was an illusion,” Anwar told Southeast Asia Globe.
He’s referring to the sagas of Sundanese legends that were popular with Indonesian audiences in the 1920s, but were told from the point of view of the Dutch directors who made them on location in what was then the Dutch East Indies. In the early 1930s, elaborate romantic melodramas were all the rage, but they were created by Chinese entrepreneurs who were flush from the Shanghai movie boom and extending their market around the region. Heavily financed foreign productions discouraged local film production, which was scattershot and based mainly in Jakarta. The Great Depression and Dutch taxes made this dream all but impossible by the mid-1930s.
A handful of enterprising filmmakers dipped their toes in the water in the 1940s – just before film production was banned under the Japanese occupation. Government-approved political films saturated the post-Independence era until a string of indie domestic films enjoyed huge success in the 1980s. The 1988 political biopic Tjoet Nja’ Dhien was the first Indonesian film to be invited to Cannes. Soon after that victory, local filmmaking took a big hit when the government lifted a ban on the screening of foreign films. Indonesian moviemakers couldn’t compete with blockbusters from Hollywood and Hong Kong. During Southeast Asia’s economic crisis of 1997, Indonesia’s economy tanked, along with box office sales and investment in domestic film production. Just six movies were made in Indonesia in 1999.
The industry has been recovering since the mid-2000s, and in most Indonesian cities, air-conditioned multiplexes are seeing relatively healthy sales. John Riady, an Indonesian entrepreneur and editor at large of the Jakarta Globe, describes Indonesia as “the most invisible country in the world”, referring to the rarity of good English writing about the country and poor tourism marketing. It’s home to a quarter of a billion people, and its capital, Jakarta, is a gargantuan tech-obsessed metropolis that sends more tweets daily than any other city on the planet. Metrics like that are impressive, but local cinema isn’t quite keeping pace.
“Indonesians used to have a closer emotional relationship with movies and cinemas, mainly because there weren’t many alternatives to movie-watching at that time, and cinemas were not in high-end shopping malls,” explained Anwar. “Today, going to a cinema requires more effort since most of them are inside places which the average Indonesian person – someone who lives outside of Jakarta, for example, or the average Jakartan who doesn’t visit luxury malls – has no access to.”
Anwar, 42, is a solidly built man who dresses and talks with the confidence of someone who tours the international film-festival circuit and enjoys a lucrative career. He grew up in a poor part of Sumatra and spent much of his childhood watching horror and kung-fu movies. In 2003, he wrote Indonesia’s first gay-themed film, Arisan!, and went on to write and direct a slew of films throughout the 2000s. His 2007 film, Kala, was lauded at the New York Asian Film Festival. His 2009 thriller, Forbidden Door, was screened at film festivals all over the world, and the Hollywood Reporter compared it to the work of Alfred Hitchcock.
The biggest challenge faced by Indonesian cinema is getting audiences in seats, Anwar explained.
“There are too few cinemas, compared to the increasing interest in cinema-going. For the past three years, Indonesia has enjoyed a [rise in] ticket sales for locally produced films, and it seems like we are going to surpass that also this year. However, ticket prices have crept up to keep pace with demand, and this puts a visit to the cinema out of the reach of most Indonesians, who either don’t have or can’t justify spending that kind of money on a movie ticket. There’s also the fact that the older traditions of movie-going are gone, and so unless you’re an upwardly mobile Jakartan, cinema isn’t on your radar at all. You watch TV. You talk to your family.”
Anwar then produced something unexpected: the 2015 dystopian A Copy of My Mind, set in Jakarta during the tense 2014 presidential elections. The urban drama and love story about a low-rent salon worker and a guy who writes subtitles for pirated DVDs featured Jakarta as a character more than a setting.
“My vision of Jakarta in A Copy of My Mind was meant to be a love letter to the city I moved to 20 years ago,” said Anwar. “Back then, I was penniless but I fell in love with the city right away. It was a very diverse place and people were more tolerant. Preachers weren’t spreading hate in mosques. Nightlife was colourful. We even had a gay film festival – imagine that, in the world’s most Muslim-populated country!”
Unlike the Hong Kong of Wong Kar-wai or the Madrid of Almodóvar, Anwar’s Jakarta wasn’t venerated, there was no background razzle-dazzle. In A Copy of My Mind, Jakarta is a bleak and ominous place, akin to the Phnom Penh of the Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh.
“Now, it feels like I don’t know Jakarta anymore. I believe that the 2014 presidential campaign started a kind of hateful atmosphere in the city, and in the country,” he said. “There were so many black campaigns launched, and they seriously damaged our capability for logic and cultural expression. Now hate has been normalised: you hear it from religious preachers, on the street, even in schools by teachers. With A Copy of My Mind, I guess I wanted to make a time capsule of that one particular year so 20 years from now, when things get better or worse, we can watch that film and remember what happened, and reflect.”
There are no film schools in Indonesia, but it does have five filmmaking education programmes at universities and institutes. It has just over 1,000 cinema screens, compared to nearly 15,000 in the comparable economy of India, which has a robust national cinema culture. In the Philippines, the industry employs a quarter of a million people and 50 million Filipinos go to the movies every year.
So why does Indonesia lag behind?
“First of all, good and entertaining movies in Indonesia are so rare that momentum in viewership can’t be sustained,” said Anwar. “This makes it hard to argue for financing, it makes it hard to motivate people to join the industry or take up training, and human resources in Indonesian filmmaking are already so rare. This results in a lot of untrained people making well-intentioned but poor-quality films. But most films are likely to get a theatrical release to fill cinema schedules, thus glutting the market with low-grade product – and this turns audiences off even further.”
Anwar hopes the current successes signal a turning point. He spoke of the increase in new movie theatres and educational opportunities, including the workshops and training offered through the government’s Creative Economy Agency.
When Southeast Asia Globe caught up with him, Anwar was in post-production after a long shoot on location in Jakarta and West Java for his next film, Gundala, based on 1980s Indonesian superhero comic books. Promo shots and poster art for it are plastered on Indonesian Facebook pages and in that deluge of Jakartan tweets.
After his work with HBO Asia, it seemed possible that Anwar would follow the money and work internationally, but Gundala suggests the exact opposite.
“I believe what’s important is making films that you can inject your own personality into, your views of life,” he said. “I think I will be happy making movies anywhere, as long as I am doing movies which I care about, with stories that I believe in, and with interesting characters. It still has to be a personal experience for me. As long as I’m allowed to do that, making movies anywhere will still be bliss.”

YOU GUYS I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS

Startups often make things cheaper, so in that respect. It's not necessarily evidence readers are lazy; it could also mean they don't have the monopoly on power they once did, precisely because they can't measure and thus reward individual performance. Well, there are 26 year olds with powerful connections. 027040077 quite 0. We want kids to be innocent is that we're programmed to like certain kinds of mail. Children of kings and great magnates were the first to ask any of the other grammatical modes which express precisely a mode of conception without any reality that corresponds to such an outline. The era of credentials began to end when the power of large organizations peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They want to believe they're living in a comfortable, safe world as much as possible, the same term was used for both products and information: there were distribution channels, and TV and radio channels.1 We'd need a trust metric of the type studied by Raph Levien to prevent malicious or incompetent submissions, of course, but when they do they're ruthlessly pruned. Kids often want to be an expert in business. Kids, almost by definition, are not.2 Probably because small children are particularly horrified by it.
There is no sharp line between angels and VCs. If you keep pursuing such threads it would be a net win if language implementors took half the time they happen, using the promise of sharing future deals. No one who has studied the history of technology would want to use it. There are certainly some political questions that have definite answers, like how much a new government policy will cost. Formal logic has some subject matter. Most of us hate to acknowledge this. Why not let people spend 100% of their time on their own to use it.
In the best case you might get rich. More and more, investors are often wrong. The goal is the same as opting in. 9998. If you want to say, and the language is. Obituary for My Brother Rano
“I may be born as a beauty
or maybe as a beast
but I will die for truth”
 (Serrano G. Sianturi)
The architect of the Sacred Rhythm music festival and the founder of Sacred Bridge Foundation, Serrano Gara Sianturi, passed away on the 26th of January 2019 in his hometown, Jakarta, Indonesia, at the age of 58, leaving a wife and two sons.
Serrano had battled an extreme pancreatic cancer known as neuroendocrine carcinoma or small cell carcinoma. At the time of his formal diagnosis in August 2018 at the National University Hospital Singapore, the cancer cells had already spread rapidly to the lungs and brain. Professor Lawrence Ho, a senior consultant there who helped in finalizing the diagnosis, mentioned to family members that Serrano had had the same cancer to which Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, succumbed. With the expertise, guidance and warm hospitality from a great medical team led by Dr. Chee Cheng Ean, specialist and program director in medical oncology, Serrano’s wish was granted to be moved to Jakarta to share the time remaining with his loved ones, family and friends.
“He was a true fighter and was very lucky to have a loving family by his side throughout his journey” (Dr. Chee Cheng Ean)
Tumblr media
Known to many simply as Rano, he was “the Heart and Soul” (LTTW, 2019[1]) of Sacred Bridge Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation based in Jakarta which focused on bridging cultures and making the world a better place through a harmonious relationship between man and nature; to reach this ideal necessitated faith in the integration of culture, economics, and politics. Of these, culture was of utmost importance. In Rano’s own terms, as a cultural economist, he reminded us that it is time to give culture a chance where economics and politics alone have often failed to provide solutions.
Though officially founded in 1998, according to Stephen Hill, who at that time served as the Director of the Jakarta Regional Office of UNESCO, they had been collaborating for two years including censor-challenging concerts in support of international percussion music in the period shortly before the New Order Indonesian Government of President Soeharto fell in the revolution of May 1998. This was a time when freedom of expression was politically severely constrained with communities tightly controlled, the early work using cultural expression to push the boundaries of rights and protest (Hill, S., 2019).
Rano felt that this crisis period was the right time to respond by establishing a foundation that could facilitate the urgency to regain mental strengths and trust within the communities. Utilizing creativity through the Arts was a powerful medium to heal the wounds, to exercise freedom of expression and to break down boundaries in order to establish respect and mutual understanding.
In response to the Aceh Tsunami of December 2004, the Sacred Bridge and UNESCO organised a field project called ‘Rising Above the Tsunami’ whose primary aim was to heal the trauma experienced, particularly by orphaned children, utilising the intangible cultural heritage as one of the society’s self-reliant supportive systems. Acehnese traditional performers were trained to incorporate local song and dance in a disciplined way and nurture a life-long sense of arts. The impact was powerful - the children were able to smile again and their communities quite literally came alive. The film, 'Rising Above the Tsunami’ was shown to the collected Ambassadors of the World (around 190) at the UNESCO General Conference in October 2005 in Paris; many in the audience were moved to tears. The film was later shown in New York.

As a core element of the foundation, an International Sacred Music Concert, the ‘Sacred Rhythm’, was inaugurated as a Millennium celebration at midnight December 31, 1999 in Bali. This evolved into a series of festivals opening doors to global musical friendships and included participants Stomu Yamash’ta, Farafina, Vikku Vinayakram, Mor Thiam, I Nyoman Astita and many more.
Later finding a new home in Kyoto, Japan, the UNESCO-sponsored event utilised the creativity of dozens of renowned musicians from five continents to bring together people from different faiths, nationalities and walks of life. By re-uniting humanity and nature, and upholding culture, the rising sun of the twenty-first century was embraced. Music then became a focal point of cultural development more than twenty years after the World Conference on Cultural Policies. Rano, as the main organiser and inspiration, together with Stephen Hill, Philippe Delanghe and Stomu Yamash’ta believed it was time to make a statement.

“Collaboratively, they wanted to show to the world - on behalf of the United Nations - that if we are to reflect on the next one thousand years, this must be in spiritual and human terms, not commercial” (Hill et all, p. vi, preface Kyoto Manifesto, 2018)
“Use Cultural Currencies for equality and understanding” (Serrano G. Sianturi)

Rano spent almost a quarter of his life in the United States of America pursuing his education. A Bachelor degree in Architecture Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1981 was followed two years later with a Masters degree in Earthquake Engineering at MIT. Returning to Indonesia, he joined the university Civil Engineering faculty, subsequently accepting the invitation to work with the then Directorate of Public Buildings of the Ministry of Public works. During this time, he trained and supervised the research of many Indonesian volcanologists.  In 1988, he resigned from both organizations and returned to MIT to pursue a completely different course of education - gaining a post-graduate economics degree specializing in Cultural Economics.
Tumblr media
Upon his return to Indonesia in 1991, Rano immediately established an economic and marketing advisory firm and served major multinational companies including Citibank, NTT, Club Med, Price Waterhouse, WWF, Jardine, Allied Queensland Coalfield, Fuji Bank International, as well as national companies such as the Jakarta Stock Exchange, Elnusa, and Telkom.
After seven years practicing as an economic consultant, he decided to pursue his long-time interest in cultural economics. He then established the Sacred Bridge where the foundation focused on action research works and model making covering five domains: Cultural Education for the Young, Cultivation of Roots Arts, Intercultural Dialogue, Capacity Building, and New Media. Since his involvement in the Foundation, Rano conducted research and field programs in Indonesia that included Aceh, Nias, Jakarta, West Java, Borobudur, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Bali, and West Papua. Sacred Bridge itself was the first UNESCO counterpart in the field of culture. In addition to the field works, Serrano managed to consult and write for international journals as well as give academic lectures at many well-respected universities in the US, UK, and Japan, with focus on cultural economics.
His inspirations, achievements and contributions for Indonesia and beyond are immeasurable but he never worked for personal recognition. He was critical of the narrow and seemingly opportunistic viewpoints of many Indonesian academics and institutions in various fields and challenged them to aspire to a higher level of understanding and interpretation for the betterment of the country and humanity. While battling the cancer, Rano mentioned in several occasions that his unfinished book title ‘Economics for Humanity’ became the least important for many reasons, but one reason that stood out as a reflection of his faith in the young generations to come, he said their books would be far more important than his.
On many occasions, while reading local newspapers, Rano said to his eldest son, Boo-boo Sianturi, now the chairman of the foundation, “Hey, they’re my ideas, that’s my writing, completely plagiarized”. He then continued, “Oh well, that’s okay, as long as they learn things the right way, understanding the importance of fundamentals
and so on, let the people learn, let the nation learn”. Rano stressed the importance of understanding contexts and fundamentals challenging their credibility on ethical grounds. In his view, the most respected profession is teaching; not only are adequate knowledge and experience required but teaching also comes with a set of responsibilities.
“Serrano Sianturi, he was my best friend and hero of his mother country”, Stomu Yamash’ta (founding member of Sacred Bridge foundation)
In 2013, Rano brought together Stomu Yamash’ta, Stephen Hill and I Nyoman Astita in Bali where they visited villages, exploring a possible way of developing the Cultural Centre which Rano was planning as a Sacred Bridge Initiative. What transpired instead was the development of a very fruitful partnership of Rano, Stomu and Stephen with the just established  ‘Centre for the Creative Economy’ at Doshisha University, Kyoto, and its Director, Tadashi Yagi. Together, they trawled the world for four years through Annual International Symposia in Kyoto in search of the best participants for their planned book which sought to re-ground global economics in our core humanity and spirituality. Prior to every Symposium Stomu produced his ‘On-Zen’ performance bringing Buddhist and Shinto priests together in combined ritual in Kyoto’s Daitokuji Buddhist Temple - in a ceremony of peace and cross-religious care - the first time in 800 years that Buddhism and Shinto had shared in such a way. Rano had brought Stephen and Stomu together in the first place – via the meeting in Bali, and spoke at the first International Symposium in June 2014, but unfortunately, after that, was too ill to participate any more.

The book “The Kyoto Manifesto for Global Economics - The Platform of Community, Humanity and Spirituality” resulted from this collaboration and was published internationally last year by Springer. Under Stomu’s inspiration, Stephen designed the structure of the book as a ‘Symphony’, and then elaborated it further as a ‘Polyphony’, i.e. bringing two or more separate themes together into an overall harmony.
“We all, however, owe Rano an enormous debt of gratitude for his humanity, vision, commitment, generosity, and inspiration. He is both our own dear friend and a friend to humanity as a whole”. (Hill et al, Kyoto Manifesto, 2018)
During the last few months of Rano’s life, he believed that the Sacred Bridge needed to continue and was convinced that the younger generations were equipped and ready to lead the foundation into the second decade of the 21st century.  On January 13, 2019, 13 days before Rano’s departure, the Sacred Bridge was marked by a “Reborn” gathering at their headquarters in Jakarta. The word “Reborn” itself was inspired by the Sacred Rhythm II (Reborn Unison) concert that took place in Bali last August 2018.
Tumblr media
Sacred Rhythm: Reborn Unison in Bali, Indonesia. (2018)
Now, almost twenty years after the first Sacred Rhythm, Rano believed that it was time to elaborate the statement. Reborn Unison emphasises the need to work together for culture to become both driver and enabler of human development, sustainable development, or the upholding of continuous and inclusive improvement of human well-being. It is this old way that is cherished by Sacred Rhythm II (Reborn Unison), paving the ground for a new generation of artists, scientists, and spiritual activists to come together, shaping and spreading the message of culture through their world-wide networks.
Bintang Perkasa, who is now the programme director, concludes Rano’s view that in the eyes of Sacred Bridge, “reborn” is not merely rebirth, but also rethinking and revisiting its fundamental values based on guidance of the past and present life to re-focus (including re-evaluate) the foundation towards the future. He further emphasizes Rano’s own words that “changes can only happen on the ground,” capturing the very spirit of Sacred Bridge “Reborn”. This will be manifested in its plan to return to fieldwork, the change initiated and agreed by Rano himself with the acknowledgment and consent of the active founders.
Rano, Rest in the Peace You Deserve. The Peace of Love – the guiding light of your life!

#METROGNOME DUBSTEP HOW TO#
#METROGNOME DUBSTEP SERIES#
Anything that’s energetic and “vintage” works really well to give the record some more character. I love to sample old disco and acid jazz records that work well as fills or stabs. I think the main thing from jazz that’s incorporated in the Ephwurd sound are the samples. Are there any techniques or styles from jazz that you integrate into your own bass house productions? Your genre-defying sound mixes in perfectly with so many different sets and never fails to get a party rocking. My overall taste is still the same, but now my ear is more technically trained. I still love all of the old electronic music that I grew up with, but now I think they could use updated mixing and mastering. Naturally, songs made on old-school samplers back in the ‘90s/early 2000s just don’t sound as big as they used to. Modern-day production focuses so much on the quality of your mixes and how they are translated on both big and small systems. Now, I’ll listen to that same record and actually find the engineering to be rather poor. It took me about 10 years after that to fully get a grasp on production, but luckily, I finally got the hang of it. I knew that I wanted to do something similar. I was blown away that some guy made something so complex in a bedroom studio. My friend played me his song “4” when I was 15, and my jaw dropped. The first time I heard Aphex Twin was a big moment for me. When did you first feel the draw into electronic music, and how has your taste evolved since you first started producing? I guess it’s the same calling but with a different sound. I finally felt I was able to learn from my peers and grow with the scene-much like my father, who had found jazz and dedicated his life to it. I think at that moment, I knew it’s what I really wanted to do because, for once in my life, I found people who had the same interests as me. I left after one year and dove right into working for Dim Mak Records, just so I could immerse myself in dance music culture.
#METROGNOME DUBSTEP HOW TO#
Once I was there, I knew sitting around in a classroom learning how to use Java or C++ was not for me. After high school, I had only applied to one college, which was CalArts, because they had the best music technology program at the time, and thankfully I got in. He never gave up on what he loved, and growing up around such passion showed me that no matter how hard things get, if you really love what you do, you’ll fight through thick and thin to make it work.ĭid you always feel a calling to follow your family’s legacy into music? He never stopped and just kept going, and his dream evolved into a career that lasted 40 years. He spent his nights in jazz clubs, networking and putting together his group. When he decided he wanted to be a singer for a living, he ended up driving cabs around New York City at the age of 30 to make ends meet. The main thing I learned from my father was the value of persistence and pushing through both the good and bad. Growing up with a father who has paved the way for jazz, what are some lessons you learned that helped you become a similarly influential artist in electronic music? Many might not know that your father is Tim Hauser, a member of the Manhattan Transfer. We also caught up with Basie to learn more about his unique musical upbringing, his favorite festival memories, and exciting news to come in 2019. He’s treated us to an hour-long Metronome mix, immediately setting things on fire with his newest track, “Hectic,” while keeping the energy through the roof with a constant onslaught of bass house masterpieces and even a few Ephwurd IDs thereafter. While the last year has been quite transformative for Ephwurd, making the move from a duo to a solo act, Basie is deftly rising to the occasion with some mind-bending new tracks. Basie innately felt the pull toward electronic music, digging in deep to ‘90s dancefloor beats before going on to curate his own pulse-pumping bass house sound. The musical journey started young for L.A.-based Basie Hauser, who grew up soaking in influences from his Grammy-winning father Tim Hauser, a member of the legendary Jazz ensemble the Manhattan Transfer. How to Choose Best Coding Program for your Children?

Age– Your child’s age decides which class is best for them. Putting your child in a class with senior students might backfire since they may not be able to handle the challenges of coding practice. The majority of the digital courses split their education into many age groups, ensuring that the content is appropriate for their age.
Budget– The cost of coding programs varies, with some costing hundreds or even thousands of bucks a month. Thus, it is crucial to assess the value it will provide to your child. A good class should have, among other things, good education and adequate faculty assistance. If a program offers these features and is within your budget, go for it.
Flexible Schedules– One of the most important factors to consider while selecting a coding class for your kids is the timing, which must be flexible to meet your schedule. The problem of a rigid schedule arises in the case of offline classes where time is limited so does the resources. Hence, the parents must find Coding Programs that are flexible to their kid’s timetables. Tinkerly’s Online Coding Classes in India is an interactive way to meet your child’s learning requirements.
Curriculum– Checking the curriculum before enrolling your child might save you a lot of time and money in the long run. A good curriculum should include both academic and practical training. Students must strengthen fundamental and core topics before diving into an advanced area like game creation.
Student Interaction– Students can participate in discussion groups on various coding platforms. Its simple to understand new topics when it is straightforward to raise a query and obtain responses from peers. Another reason why community is important is that it motivates children to learn. The students are more eager to study and participate in coding tasks when surrounded by their peers. The best coding courses of STEM in India focus on students’ interaction.
