The purplish, blueish, lilac colour that lights Buffy the Vampire Slayer throughout the whole series might explain why BTVS felt so Bi as a show to me in a way that I could never quite explain.

This colour. If you know you know. It’s like everything was lit by weak moonlight, or the slayer and vampires existed in the perpetual twilight.

For real what is it with vampire media, and light purple/bluish tints? Between this and the twilight saga… I dunno maybe it’s just me, or maybe vampire media is just inherently queer.

Obvs bisexuals don’t own the colour purple, but as the intersecting/between shade in the bi flag and how this lighting signals twilight (the time/world between day and night) I think it’s a pretty rad parallel.

i don't think we talk about giles and willow parallels enough. good kids. smart kids. responsible and self-reliant and neglected kids. queer kids, who grew up and found they could have some measure of power and held it tight. kids who went mad with it, a little - and they haven't got where they are without some determination so they keep on going until someone gets hurt.

it’s so. good. that buffy has to feel self loathing about what she’s doing with spike specifically because the underpinnings of the show require that vampires be Bad Monster Creatures who Cannot Feel and are just Lifeless Demons otherwise everything comes into question. about everything. except that spike is the crack in the foundation of the show itself and in that, he makes the show better! he’s the only end that makes sense for her because he sets her free!!!

i don't think willow realizing she's a lesbian is a rejection of her relationship with oz. you don't do a disservice to past partners if you realize your attraction lies elsewhere. willow's relationship with tara doesn't negate what she had with oz - it reframes some aspects of their dynamic, but not necessarily in a bad way.

okay, personally, i want as little of the og cast as possible in the buffy reboot so i don't feel obligated to watch it at all, (purely because i get attached to the characters and not the intellectual property of most fandoms i'm in and therefore am meh about reboots in general,) but there is one single, plausibly realistic thing i am kind of hoping to see with this one.

i am SO here for wisdom-bearing buffy showing up solo for a few eps and then happily fucking off into the land of vague endgame theories. i am also rooting for an explicitly queer take on her character, but not betting on it in the slightest. i also don't care if she does get a confirmed endgame and it happens to be with one of her vamp boys, because i like both spike and angel well enough to accept either (and ignoring canonical heteronormative agendas in any fandom is like breathing to me as a femslash shipper, okay, i'll live), but if that does happen, which i feel like it very well might, i'd love to at least get some unproblematic bi rep in that context.

again, not betting on it, and forever shooting major stink eye at the comics for not letting her be, but, like, if the new gen has a queer main character, which is something i fully actually expect, i think it'd be neat to see buffy commiserate with them. and when it's pointed out with some confusion that she's in a straight (passing) relationship and doesn't really get it, even if her best friend is gay, i want the show to let her shrug and smile wistfully and say something like, "well, actually, i'm not so picky myself."

she super does not need to be sucking face with anyone at all. i do not need a confirmed endgame one way or another. just let her be happy with herself and still a badass and a little more consciously fruity, as a treat.

If I had money I would hire some thug to find the producers or whatever head honchos that got to decide that making some character or another canonically queer was a bad idea for whatever bullshit reasons and the thug would just shake them like a fruit tree until the guys in charge would admit being homophobic assholes and they would promise to let writers make same-gender characters fall in love with each other if the comedians had enough chemistry, but also to include more diverse identities. The thug would force them to write it all down and sign it.

If I could do that a few times, imagine how different TV shows would become.

If I had money I would spend it all to please the gays and queers.

Buffy Fic Rec!!

girls, gays and theys of the buffy fandom… i have to put u onto the sweetest & funniest little fic ever.

It’s a perfect example of the queer-found-family trope, has very funny and in-character banter & features an adorable dawn-spike-sibling-relationship dynamic.

As a bi girlie, i got so much bi joy from the premise of this fic, which is that Spike (elder disaster bisexual) helps Dawn (baby disaster bisexual) come to terms with her bisexuality, which… as a result triggers an en-masse coming-out of the scoobies.

It’s also got a beautifully delicate balance of the bitter-with-the-sweet, as a good 50% of the fic is set during the time between seasons 5 & 6, & so contains a lot of Spike-helping-dawn through her grief.

Each character also feels so well fleshed out, with the writer having put so much thought into their dialogue and little quirks.

it’s truly lovely and if u have the time I really recommend reading it.
